PAST TIME for mah SOUL, mah HEART, and mah MIND.

Yes. Just because you’re in law school doesn't mean you don’t have a life OR that you don’t deserve to have at least one past time. YOU DO HAVE A TIME. chararararan~

I think and do believe that all law students even the studious and especially the bright ones have their own break time. No one can read, memorize, and analyze for four (4) hours straight without losing their concentration or getting sleepy - at least that’s how it was to me and to ALL people I knew.

This is how my break time evolved over the years in my stay in law school. haha.

THE NOOB LEVEL

During my first year, I was the studious type. At least that’s what I think, haha. I don’t check my social media accounts except to make sure that I didn’t miss anything from our school requirements sent to us thru our class mayor (that one classmate in charge of information dissemination and who bargains with the professors on behalf of the whole class, Amen for all their efforts).

I don’t have a fu**ing life then. I spend days and night reading, digesting and memorizing. I had to decline invitations from my friends and even refused to attend family gatherings just to catch up with our classes.

During those time, I don’t even know what’s the latest trend or even the most basic news because I don’t have a freaking F time to read or watch news.

The ROROUNI KENSHIN LEVEL

This was during my second year. I think I was drained during my first year that I spent my second year wondering what I was doing.

At this point, I allowed myself to take simple breaks like normal law students. This means - having some moments to refresh my mind after hours of studying, a little bit of IG and facebook scrolling. Some prefer watching funny video clips on YouTube too.

But really, I was just confused during this period. If I didn’t have a friend who shares the same worry at that time, I may have started losing my will to continue.

MASTER LEVEL

Well, hello to the point of time where I just want to do everything that comes to my mind. I play video games if I want to, I watch anime, kdrama and jdrama just because. I read manga, light novel and webtoons, I started learning Kalimba and even went back to doing some sort of painting- ish?

Of course this does not mean I neglected my studies. I do read and would still decline invitations if I knew we will have recitations and quizzes that day.

Let me just say...

Everything I do at that time are just simple mind refreshment activities that can be done within the four walls of my room. This is because although I spend my time more leisurely, I want to make sure that I’m still productive in my studies. Right? And I obviously can’t do that if I go partying. THO I’ve always been the home buddy rather than the partygoer from the start so no big deal for me~

THE EPIC LEVEL

Okay. So I decided I don’t want to have a freaking break at this point. I may have just got so used into thinking a lot and doing something every moment that I feel empty and at lost when I don’t have something to do. Damn it. Apparently, you get use to the struggle and pain. wow.

Aside from my job, mobile online games, a little bit of Kalimba, doing some craft, painting, and watching. I decided I want to suffer more and enrolled myself to a Japanese class, just because.

I still wonder what spirit came over me at that time when I processed my papers and payment. When I realized what I’ve done, it was too late. haha.

Oh, I go out too (Excluding work related and family matter transactions) ONCE IN A WHILE to have coffee, chat and meal with friends. BUT like in law, there are exemptions. Here they are:

1. If I know that my name is on deck for recitation, I don’t go out UNLESS I was able to study the night before and had everything covered. If so, all I need is a little bit of scanning before the class;

2. Unless it’s really urgent and for study or assignment purposes, I won’t go out when I don’t feel like it which is how I feel every waking moment;

3. If there a quiz, don’t even think about going out. period.

SO. Although It’s okay to have coffee and meal from time to time and catch up with your friends especially if they were your friends way back kupong-kupong (those friends you spent your childhood with), this does not mean that we have all the time in the world.

We have to set our priorities. And although we value our friends, there are times that we just have to decline because we don’t have much time to spare. Hands up to all the working students as well as the parents-student out there.

Anyway. The point is, we need every break time we can get. Don’t feel so guilty when you spent fifteen minutes watching random clips OR thirty minutes staring at the ceiling. Our MENTAL HEALTH matters too! and if we can save ourselves from being mad with random sh*t of hobbies and past times, then DO IT.

If that sh*t is your friend and they are your saving grace from being insane, go spend some time with them!
