You know, I find it really funny how people get pissed off every time Taylor Swift is shown at a football game, even though they only show her on camera for like...30 seconds. And that's it. 30 seconds are given to arguably the world's most popular celebrity right now, and that just makes so many people irrationally angry. And I have to wonder why that is. We see male celebrities at sports games all the time, they get the spotlight turned on them too. And yet nobody ever complains about this. For example, Spike Lee. As far as I know? That man is at nearly every single Knicks game. They always show him sitting in the stands if he's there. My parents always look to see if he's there whenever they watch a Knicks game. For some reason though, this doesn't seem to bother them. It doesn't seem to bother anyone else, either. And yet Taylor Swift being shown and talked about for a couple of seconds sends people over the edge. Why is that? It couldn't possibly be because of...sexism, now could it?

I have a bit to say about Nana's name. (and use of honorifics cause wtf)

NOTE; I'm not Japanese so if I get shit wrong sorry

So let's talk about Nana's "nickname". The nickname itself isn't actually bad, IF it was originally a nickname, and if it was used so infantilizingly.

The thing that makes Nana's name so bad is that it's used with the infantilization of Japanese girls and the stereotyping of them. as well the terrible use of Japanese honorifics.

In Japan it's very common for young girls to have nicknames like "Kawaii-chan", and it's also common for young girls to call ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING "kawaii desu 可愛いです"

They will be watching Ringu, and you bet your ass throughout the entire movie it'll just be "可愛いです!!" "可愛いです!!" which is something I find so funny ngl.

So if Nana was originally introduced as Nana but with the nickname "kawaii-chan" it would've been mostly fine.

The thing that also makes it weird is that it wasn't dropped after high school. She's a grown woman now, her friends should not be calling her kawaii-chan.

I mean like online and for her maid cafe the kawaii-chan could stay because that's a persona she's putting on.

Also the improper use of honorifics is horrifying. I'm actually sobbing.

In high school she could get away with it as we know she moved to america recently so it would make some sense she still sometimes uses it.

Now I've seen some people say that she could still use it as an adult because she finds it cute but idk..

Especially because her honorifics with the other characters is so bad. The most you'd get outside of high school is just a bunch of "chan" and "kun"s. which would be boring ngl.

First "Aphmau-senpai" .....isn't Nana older????? So kōhai 後輩 would be best. In Japan, schools, work, organized functions, etc. Are where kohai and senpai are used. Now when people graduate or retire, sometimes these honorifics are still used.

The only way "Aphmau-senpai" could be used is if Aphmau was Nana's senior in something. BUT SHE ISN'T??? I DON'T THINK SO???

"Katelyn-sama" I'm going to shoot someone, sama or san are only used in formal relationships. Sama is EXTREMELY formal and only used for elders and bosses. Not your flat mate. (I'm not from the UK)

So the only honorifics that would be used within Mystreet would be "chan" and "kun"s. Because of Nana's relationship with most of the cast.

Point is, Kawaii-chan is an okay NICKname for her to have and for you to call her. The thing that makes it weird is how KC's character is treated in Mystreet.

In MCD the honorifics make no sense and the only time Kawaii-chan could be used in canon is for her persona in the maid cafe. That's it.

I've seen a lot of people say that the name "Nana" is cruel because they're naming her a number. stfu.

Naming your kid Nana or a number is very common in Japan. Hell there's a whole manga series about to girl's both being named Nana.

idk I just find that people who think the Kawaaii-chan thing is the main problem when it isn't annoying. Her name originally being that was a problem but what we should really look at is the fetishization and stereotyping of Japanese girls.

On that note, Jess has very much improved Nana's character in recent years and I think that's a good thing. We as a community need to start focusing on the positives of the Aphverse™.

The multiple instances of Cal almost mentioning Maven KILLS ME. Like that moment in GS when he's trying to comfort the child who's terrified of their ability, so much so that they refuse to even want to learn how to use it, so Cal mentions how he used to be scared of hurting other with his ability as well and he gets so close to mentioning how he was terrified of hurting Maven specifically and that this fear of hurting HIS LITTLE BROTHER is what motivated him to learn how to control it. Hi friends! Today I wanna talk about Bakugo! (“But you always talk about Bakugo, Eri.” Stfu no one asked you)

I wanna talk about Bakugo’s strength and how it tends to be overlooked by the audience because he “hasn’t had a solo villain fight.” Particularly I wanna talk about this:

Deku at 30 percent is really fucking fast. So for Bakugo to be able to keep up with him is a strong feat that I feel gets overlooked by a lot of readers. For reference. Deku goes from point A to point B in the span of like 5 seconds in order to save Aizawa and Bakugo is not far behind:

His explosions have to be intensely powerful in order for him to be able move at that speed. It must hurt like hell too. We know that even Deku was shook by the pain that comes with firing off one of those gauntlets and that was all the way back during the final exam. Bakugo’s growth during the series is insane, not just mentally but strength wise. All Might makes sure to remind him he can’t possibly grow as fast as Deku because Deku is starting from level 1. But Bakugo sure as hell is taking that and running even harder with it. Every arc we see some sort of new move from him and get his little announcements to Deku that he is MUCH stronger than Dk v Kc 2.

Hori keeps reminding us just how strong Bakugo is and I believe he wants to keep that image of him in the readers heads which is why he goes out of his way to avoid Bakugo being in tougher situations. For example, Bakugo was not with the rest of class A vs Mirio. Hori most likely did that on purpose because he couldn’t figure out how Bakugo could lose to Mirio, (I don’t think you can faze through heat which is why Todo decided to sit back and watch too lol) and the whole point of that was to highlight Deku’s fast reaction time and predictive abilities. It’s hard to do that with Bakugo present because has the best ones in the class.

Anyway I am going to address the “Bakugo hasn’t had a villain fight” criticism because he has had SEVERAL encounters with villains. Including fighting to League of Villains 7 on one. But we have never seen him truly struggle against them and his battles against them end fast. Because he is much too efficient.

Even during the JT arc where Hori has several fan favorites STRUGGLE hard against class B. Even Todoroki has to go fucking plus ultra in order to win (which he doesn’t) yet it’s Bakugo’s team that has the cleanest victory out of all the matches. It has to be intentional on Hori’s part. He’s got to drill it in our because this guy is Deku’s “symbol of victory” and he doesn’t lose and he doesn’t struggle.

Even when he got kidnapped by the League of Villain, it was because he got tricked/distracted. Not because he was overpowered. It’s not so much that we haven’t seen Bakugo go against a strong opponent, we just haven’t seen him struggle against one. In fact the only opponent we’ve seen Bakugo truly struggle against was Deku in Dk v Kc 2. (And I’m not counting All Might because that’s God and anyone is gonna have a hard time against him) And the dumbest point I’ve ever seen made was how “hurrdurr Bakugo only won cause Deku was only using 5% of his power” as if he would have lost had Deku started breaking his bones. You really think Bakugo wouldn’t have exploited that and won?! Also please read that it was 8% of Deku’s power that Bakugo managed to win against.

Point is, Bakugo is crazy strong and just like Deku keeps getting stronger, so does he. I’ve seen too many people underestimate him. He already got even stronger during that last match with Shigaraki. And I believe he one hundred percent is still able to keep up with Deku even with the full power of OFA.

Ch. 8

Cassie reinforced Pritkin’s shields. You go girl

“Pritkin might be hostile...damn good guy to have a in fight”. I’m so amused because it takes a whole paragraph to describe what he’s doing, and then Tomas is “Tomas was doing okay, too.” He gets a few sentences and then Louis-Cesare gets the rest of the paragraph.

Seriously how did I not realize Pritkin was going to be such an important character (regardless of shipping, he really is). 

I forgot that Louis-Cesare was all “you’re delusion” and dismissive of Cassie, I knew I had a bad flavor in my mouth because of him in this book. (my notes were not as eloquent as this paragraph I cussed in caps)

I wonder if Cassie reminded him of Christine?

Ch. 9

Oh man Pritkin pissed me off so bad during this meeting. I know his backstory really explains why, but urgh it just...not flattering.

“LC was apparently a single minded guy” This just made me laugh he really is.

REgarding the feeding on satyrs as punishment: “The scene bothered me...I finally decided that my brain was objecting to the sigh of [Tomas’] fangs”. Cassie was raised in vamp culture, but she’s been slowly distancing herself from it, and already since being on the run again, reevaluating her moral compass and the like, even if she’s too much of a pragmatist and has too many issues to realize it.

This chapter is so good at establishing the different worlds and Cassie’s POV about them. By a standard baseline, what the vampires are doing is straight up abuse. If a human was doing that to another human as punishment with consent (not going to touch on BDSM culture), it would be reprehensible. But Cassie doesn’t even notice or question it until Pritkin’s reacts. And then she is forced to explain it to him, to justify it, and you can see her keep reverting back to her upbringing without even putting her own thoughts on it, which, as a pragmatist, she sees the value in to a degree. And pritkin is made out to be overreacting, whereas Cassie just detaches and ignores.

“The devil you know” is really appropriate in Cassie’s “trust” in Mircea and the vamps.

Stupid Tomas and his jealousy. I’m glad that Mircea at least apologized for baiting him.

Louis-Cesare may be the one with outdated mannerisms but Tomas is literally a fedora away from “m’lady”+nice boys finish last start pack

This feeding scene must have been so hard for Pritkin with all his hangups and demons. (pun intended hahaha I’ll shush now)

Ch. 10

It just occurred to me that Mircea and Cassie both use their style as a way to have control over something. But in Cassie’s case it’s about keeping some form of her personality, whereas Mircea use his style as another way to present his arguments

LC just needed a hug during this chapter but he’ll have to wait until the dory books

Personal rant feel free to ignore

I need to rant but I can't in my main because my rant is about someone who has my main. So I'm in Des Moines for the p!atd concert. It was a big mess but I convinced this girls mom to let her go. I didn't want to go with her but she was my only option. She's been a bitch this entire trip like I thought she would be. Idk about y'all but when I go to a different city I like to look up the local restaurants and go there instead of a chain. She said, after spending $25 at a vape shop mine you, "I don't want to eat somewhere local because I won't know the prices an l don't want to waste money. Let's just go fast food" I JUST SPENT $12 AT QDOBA HOW IS THAT ANY BETTER THAN A LOCA RESTAURANT? Afterwards she was like, what do you want to do now we have an hour before the concert. So I said let's go to the art museum because I'm an art hoe and its something I can't do back home. And she goes "that's so boring let's go to some smoke shops". She's obsessed with going to smoke shops because in KC you have to be 21 to go but here it's 18. And like no. That's boring. I'm not a smoking fanatic I don't like going to those shops they make me nauseous. We already spent 45 minutes in a vape shop; her talking to the guy and buying new juice and coils while I stood there wanting to leave. And she can't come up with any other ideas. I kept pitching ideas like: going to the historic district, walking around downtown and just be outside even if it's cold, contact this girl from our high school who goes to Drake and hang out with her, and just cruising around downtown. And she turned them all down. So now we're in the hotel 2 hours before the show and like I had all these plans for going to the art museum and the historic district because that's the kind of person I am. And she made fun of them like I was some loser. She actually said "art museums are only for old people, boring people, and fake hipsters" like you're a fucking wannabe stoner stfu. Fcking vaping in our non-smoking hotel. This is my spring break, sure I'm seeing my favorite band, but it's like I never even left KC I'm doing the same shit I would be doing in KC: sitting in bed on my phone eating shitty fast food I can't get anywhere. I'm just pissed this trip isn't going the way I wanted
