Ngl when I started The Beyond and found out Miwa was piloting Sein I literally shut down for like 3s. And now I finished the thing but a part of me still wants Sein to be Kazuki's only. 😭😭😭 I mean. It's previously established that Kazuki is the only one capable of piloting Sein, what's with the assimilating thing, so I kinda associate the mech with him not to mention the whole symbolism with Soushi's Nitch.

And then suddenly Miwa is piloting it too and Kazuki switches from Achilles to Zehn Kai and then Alles and I'm like. ajdhsajdahdj???

Q. What do you usually draw? A. Mostly hyperfixating on my and Fredrik's story and original characters. I struggle being passionate about franchises nowadays so I almost never draw fanart anymore.

Q. Favorite artists/role models? A. I have many I like but the biggest ones at the top of my head; Yomi, Nakamura Tatsunori, Kazuki Yone, Mahmoud Farshchian, Ken Sugimori (specifically his oldschool 90s-2000s art style).

Q. Favorite colors? Your most hated? A. Favorites: Pastel pink and pastel purple. Hated: Yellow, orange, green. I really hate very saturated/neon colors in general.

Q. Are you self-taught? Any future plans? A. I'm self-taught. No plans, I only draw for fun as an hobby.

Q. What do you do when you're not drawing? A. Working at dog daycare, hanging out with friends, reading or playing video games.

One of the things that sadden me (among many tragedies else) is that Kazuki and Koyo told Kurusu that they would be there with him when he died, but it the end, they did not.

And I'm not saying this to criticize the ending whatsoever (I love that Kazuki and especially Koyo decided on a world tour), but well. Upon hearing that, I kinda expected Koyo and Kazuki to 'die' when Kurusu was gone, so I was a little bumped out when it turned out that they didn't. It certainly did not help that the Festum trio hold a special place in my heart. I just love them together lol they're kinda funny.

I also think Kurusu would be very happy to go on a world tour with Kazuki and Koyo too. He likes the sky, after all. How pretty of a scenario would it be.

Third volume of this fun series! Volume 2 was focused on Misato's past, and this one focuses on Ryouji's, after a sizeable diversion in the beginning of the book dealing with an argument between Misato and Shirota (his spiritual familiar snake).

There are more emotional developments this volume, and it was even more touching than the previous books. I was really invested in the main conflict, and Misato shows off more of his awesome powers!

Poor Ryouji really gets put through the ringer in this book, and he ends up having to be saved. Between Volume 1 and 3, he's really shaping up to be a cute damsel in distress (LOL).

There's not a whole lot I can mention since it's basically all spoilers, but I'm interested to see where this series goes from here. The characters have both worked through their troubled pasts by the end of this volume, so any future books will need to lean heavier on the actual cases the two deal with.

I wouldn't be mad if there weren't any further books (everything gets wrapped up satisfactorily), but I would love another book, if only so that we get more time with Ryouji and Misato working together and acting like an old married couple.

I usually don't want to diss the new(er) Hakuouki art, especially since it's been like 10 years since Kazuki Yone hasn't been the main artist. For the appreciation see this stunning visual for the new OVA Kazuki Yone has done:

There have been pretty pictures for Hakuouki even after the original artist left, but however year by year there just seems to be more and more.. plasticy, odd pics too. I'm not a fan of that but usually I don't particularly have a problem with it either. But this picture for the new Hakuouki OVA ending theme, it just looks.. rushed.

It kinda bothered me the first time I saw it but lately it's been a lot on the OVA songs on youtube and I have had to see it much more, and now it really bothers me. I don't want to blame the artists in any way, and given that this was for the OVA and not for a new game it's understandable that the quality isn't on the same standard as for the game CGs, but there's just so much wrong going on. The guys look really bad copies of their actual appearance (see the beautiful visual Kazuki Yone did, you can really see it on Harada and Okita).

And it has some really rookie mistakes like on the guys' heads and Hijikata's asymmetric jaw. I mean I'm not a professional artist but minus the coloring I'd say this was fan art. So I ended up playing around with older CGs, just kinda trying to see what the picture could have looked like if it had the effort and time it needed(and the original artist).

This is what I ended up with, I had to change Okita’s whole hair because I couldn’t help but feel like he looked like Iba if I didn’t. Now I’m not saying I “fixed” the ending theme cover, nor I’m claiming this is somehow better. I just did this for fun, to see how cool the pic could have been. And I'm mildly scoffing at the decreasing quality on Hakuouki's offical art.
