Rise of New Champions Story Mode Trailer is Everything I’ve Ever Wanted

Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions has a story mode that lets you “seize victory with your own two feet” later this year.

As a long-suffering FIFA fan who’s been on the lookout for a fun soccer game to play since November, Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions was a welcome announcement from Bandai Namco earlier this year. The game is based on the very popular anime franchise. It features arcade-style soccer and great anime-like visuals. Plus, the signature moves each character has are just the right kind of bonkers. Today, Bandai Namco revealed some juicy details about the story mode via a brand-new trailer. Give it a look below.

In Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions, you’ll get to create your own player, customizing their look to your heart’s content. Plus, you get to choose which team you’ll play for. There are three teams to choose from. Will you play for Furano FC, Musashi FC, or Toho Academy? Furano is the home team for players like Hikaru Matsuyama and Masanori Kato, while Musashi brings players like Jun Misugi. Toho, meanwhile, features top players like Kojiro Hyuga, Kazuki Sorimachi, and keeper Ken Wakashimazu. Regardless of which team you choose, you’ll need to work hard to get in their starting 11 and take them to the top.

Players can rank up in a variety of skills and will build up their friendship levels with teammates. Doing activities like this gives you access to new special abilities you can equip. These will give you game-changing opportunities on the pitch.

I’ve only watched a few episodes of the anime. So I can’t really tell you how well the team nails the story. That said, I’ve spent way too many hours playing arcade-style soccer games like Sega Soccer Slam and Super Mario Strikers. The trailers the Captain Tsubasa team has put out thus far have me feeling like I’m going to dump an equal amount of time into this one.

Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions launches on Nintendo Switch, PC, and PS4 later this year.

Hmmm…

Schneider = blond Tsubasa with long eyelashes and sharp nose.

How to differentiate those three: Matsuyama -> almond eyes, Misaki -> thin eyebrows in most media, large eyes and his eyelids look “straight” but he’s gay inside, Sorimachi -> medium sized eyes.

The truth is that Morisaki is Nankatsu’s elementary school coach.

Sano -> Wakashimazu’s lil bro, Katagiri -> Wakashimazu wearing sunglasses.

Kisugi -> Tsubasa’s mom and Kitazume’s love child.

CT fandom’s headcanons [JP side]

I noticed that some headcanons were widespread among Japanese fans and I thought it would be fun to share them here! These headcanons can be found mainly on the KojiKen side, but you can sometimes find them among other shippers and non-shippers.

-> P.S.: I forgot to specify that these headcanons are focused on Toho boys and their close circles only.

Hyuga:

• Has a low alcohol tolerance.

• Is a good cook because he used to prepare a lot of meals for his little brothers and sister while their mom worked.

• Lazy student/does the bare minimum in school to keep his student grant and thinks too much about soccer instead of listening in class (it doesn't mean he isn't smart!).

• Has a deep voice (influenced by his first JP VA Hirotaka Suzuoki).

• Is a good singer – this headcanon stems from the fact that his favorite school subject is music (with physical education).

• Is the team's dad/makes the team feel safe and protected.

Wakashimazu:

• Has a good alcohol tolerance.

• Is a bad cook because he lives in a house with traditional values – his mom or/and big sister take care of preparing the meals for the whole family.

• Is a model student and is always willing to help Hyuga getting good grades.

• His father is protective towards him and resents Hyuga because he thinks that the latter made his son turn away from karate.

• His family adopted the dog he saved in elementary school.

• Has a scar on his left shoulder because of the car accident.

• Looks like his big sister – she and Ken inherited from their mother features (wide, round eyes and fair skin), while his big brother inherited from their father.

SUBVERTED -> It seems like Ken's older brother is named Shin and they share similar features (to be confirmed – it will be revealed in the future chapters of the new series CT Memories).

• Is the team's mom/serves as a big emotional support for the team.

Sorimachi:

• Hyuga and Wakashimazu’s confidant and mediator.

• Is very casual and familiar with Wakashimazu and calls him very often “Ken-chan”, which annoys sometimes the latter.

Takeshi:

• Hyuga and Wakashimazu’s child. 😂
