Koisenu Futari’s Kazu-kun: one step further into the amato-normativity discussion

So. What’s up with Kazu-kun. Why does he deserve his own post.

Kazu-kun starts as a background character, and then progressively becomes the third main character of the show.

And I love him. Which is not a small feat because I started out hating him. And all of it was very much on purpose.

Kazu-kun, I believe, exists as a vessel for the allo audience.

He’s there to asks all the questions the allo viewers are asking themselves, and then to learn and grow from the answers, and become both a friend to our protagonists and an ally to aroace people in general.

He exemplifies the arc the allo viewer would ideally go through while watching the show.

The thing about Koisenu Futari is, it’s a show made from the perspective of aroace characters, for aroace viewers. It’s about our fears, our insecurities, our experience with amato- and allo-normativity, our lives.

And it’s good thing! It’s a significant part of why I love it so much!

But it also means that it’s risking loosing it’s allo audience a bit. (I’d be curious to know how many allo people have watched this show at all tbh). Almost all the other allo characters in the show exist so our protagonists can experience being faced with yet another form of amatonormativity. Kazu-kun exist so an allo character can experience being faced with aromanticism and asexuality.

And it impacts his entire character, including and especially the flaws that made me hate him at the beginning.

Part of it is, of course, because a character needs flaws to grow out of, as the most basic way to write a character arc.

For example, he begins as the most Straight Man™ ever. He thinks Sakuko belongs to him because they dated in the past (are kinda technically on a break the situation wasn’t clear the expectations were very different), thinks cooking is easy and a woman’s job and of course doesn’t know how and thinks it’s perfectly normal because he’s a man, absolutely cannot fathom how a man could not be sexually attracted to a woman he’s even somewhat close to.

All those traits are flaws he will overcome as he grows and becomes a better man.

But part of it is also traits he needs to play his role well.

He is, for one, a very nosy character, with a strong sens of entitlement that means he’ll stop at little to get his answers. Which of course makes him absolutely insufferable at the beginning! I spent almost all of episode 4 wanting to slap him! But it’s a necessary character trait for him to actually ask out loud the questions the allo audience is quietly wondering about. If he was a proper and polite Japanese man, he wouldn’t be asking those questions, and therefore wouldn’t be fulfilling his role in the story.

And then he learns. All his questions and indiscretions get him somewhere, which is a much better understanding of aroace people. And with some luck, the allo audience learned with him, without needing to invade actual aroace people’s privacy!

(yes I’m still salty about ep4, why do you ask. just because it was narratively necessary doesn’t make it any less hard to watch)

To be perfectly honest, from a pure character development perspective, I think he changes a bit too quickly. But, well. The show is only 8 episodes. Also that’s my only complaint about this show.

He first learns how to cook, and most importantly, instantly apologizes to Sakuko for asking her to cook like it was nothing. This ability to 1) recognize when he was wrong and 2) apologize for it, is key in his whole development and one of the main reasons I’m ready to accept that he did a 180 so quickly.

Cooking, of course, if a synecdoche for every gendered expectation about couples. He’s not just learning how to cook, he’s learning that the things he was taught to expect from his future wife actually take work and are very much doable and enjoyable as a man.

Most importantly, he learns that romance is not the only register he can use to interact with women; in this case especially Sakuko. In fact, at the end of episode 4, he offers that since she is aroace, they could have a QPR together.

(the show doesn’t call it a QPR, doesn’t use the word at all, but that’s exactly what it is, both the actual arrangement between Sakuko and Takahashi, and what Kazu-kun offers to Sakuko)

So, big points for getting what Minori can’t seem to grasp in ep 6: QPR are not reserved to aromantics! Really important lesson that a lot of allies never learn.

In this specific case, I don’t think it would have worked, and it can very well be interpreted as him refusing to let go. I don’t think a QPR with the woman he’s still very much in love with is a good idea. And while he has learned a lot, he’s still pretty new to the whole thing, and I think he’d still have too many expectations that would end up hurting Sakuko.

And once Sakuko has taken the time to think about it and tells him no, not only does he listen, not only doesn’t he get upset, but he immediately reassure her that they are still friends and will keep being friends.

In that way, this whole journey of his allows Kazu-kun and Sakuko to get back the easy and joyous friendship they seemed to have lost when they broke up. Which is both the biggest and final proof of maturity on his part and the best thing he got from the whole adventure.

Once he understand that Sakuko and Takahashi are aroace and quite happy with it, he also becomes their first defender. He tells Minori off twice when she steps out of line, and is ready to correct one of their colleagues when he assumes that he and Sakuko are a couple. Good example of how to be an ally.

Faced with micro-aggression (or even overt and intentional aggression), minorities:

might get overwhelmed by emotions and are almost certainly more sensitive to it than allies

are less likely to be listened to if they correct the person, because they are a minority

often cannot afford to be angry or aggressive or anything other than incredibly diplomatic about it without being told off, a problem allies face a lot less

Hence why a big part of allies' job is correcting other privileged people. Great ally-ship, take notes everyone.

In conclusion, I said last time that Minori and Haruka exemplify how amatonormativity also harms allo people. I’d argue that, with all this:

Kazu-kun shows what allo people have to gain from getting rid of it.

Starting off with stuff I'm collaborating with others on

Danny and the Light - an original graphic novel on webtoon that got cancelled and is getting rebooted (don't get excited though we're taking our time with it) with @stormcloudquill

Chrysalis Chronicles - An original illustrated novel or graphic novel (i haven't decided) that's ripping off/fixing all the things wrong about harry potter; with @thekrazykitsune

Mincraft Diaries - Yep! Aphmau's Minecraft Diaries, rekindled and made into fanfiction and/or a graphic novel (probably both) and this one will actually have an ending; also with @thekrazykitsune

Avatar: Lion Turtle Heart - a fanfic graphic novel about a firebending avatar after korra named Akira working to unravel the mysteries of her past self, Avatar Kazu, and his death that even she can't comprehend, as well as the strange appearance of a baby lion turtle that Akira now has to care for. Legend of Emily Windsnap - Rebooting Emily Windsnap's story in fanfiction form. this fic is actually going to be released some time this or next year (hopefully this year but shit's hitting the fan on my life currently) and book 1 is actually near finished!

Digidestined Diaries - a reboot of seasons 1-4 of Digimon in either fic or graphic novel form. may or may not do this with stormcloud, but I'm not sure. the thing that makes this so special is that tamers and frontier take place in the same universe as adventure. yes, takato meets Tai, and no it does not go well for the others involved

Wizard101, The Legacy of Atlas - telling a story heavily based off the first arc of Wizard101 quests with a balance wizard as a main character, featuring the friends they make and the enemies they face as the chosen one to defeat Mallistaire. this will absolutely be in fic form, most likely with illustrations

Bloom's Magic, Beta writing - a written fanfic reboot of Winx Club as a beta version of the story I planned with Storm. the comic version of BM is currently on the backburner and is gonna have some differences to the written version, but it'll be something I promise

Finally, some original works that I plan on publishing!

Chronos and Kalayah - a Time Traveler named Chronos rushes around time looking for their best friend, an immortal named Kalayah. the two of them constantly avoid the temporal police while simultaneously helping Kalayah survive being a black lesbian in American history. likely only going to consist of one book and have a novel and graphic novel form

Call My Soul - a Magic Girl series featuring Blake Janes, an ordinary boy who stumbles upon an alien named Alexandrite. Alex is tasked with keeping safe the artifacts of the ancient magical shogunate, whose spirits end up choosing Blake and his gal pals to protect themselves from the evil prince Tsukuyomi, who wants nothing more than the artifacts. this graphic novel gets really gay really fast so strap in when it comes out

Roll For Adventure - a young boy named Matt who loves playing DnD is isekai'd into a land straight out of Lord Of The Rings, and he is absolutely stoked. while he is looking for a portal back home, his elf friend Sequoia and Orc friend Yevelda help him fight his way through the coming war between the eight races. Fun Fact; I use my dice to help the characters make decisions. even major story beats are going to be up to my D20!

Lucifer the Good - this story is precious to me, and hard to describe. it involves four kids being isekai'd into a world filled with magical monsters and elemental creatures, being guided by a young voice to find secret angels, all while villainous demons under King Devil work to stop the kids from ever leaving this new world. even worse, the human kids are the only ones who can undo the vile curse on the land of magic.

that's all the stories that I'm actively working on, but I do have at least 10 more that I'm leaving on the backburner to focus on these ones! Call My Soul is also getting very little attention, but I am actively working on it! I'm seriously hoping at least one of my original works will be released to the public by 2025, but again, life is crazy. anyway, my next few posts are gonna involve Digidestined Diaries while I work on finishing up Emily Windsnap Book 2 and finalize book 1. there's only one change I wanna make, then I'll get to releasing it to AO3 and Wattpad! I promise, at least one of these will be worth the wait :3

I made the map a little less of one big supercontinent, and I thought that making this world feel a little bigger would help make this story feel more vast without needing to leave the planet (I am never forgiving Kazu for that goofy ending in book 7, it literally came out of nowhere)

I will update this map later (I’m going to move the mountain range in Gulfeńn to the coast, so that geographically it makes a little sense as to why that whole area is an arid desert, and extend the mountain range up up north a bit)

During the war all the western countries are known as the Common Alliance (or at least, it will be if I don’t think of a less cheesy name). The best way to think about these countries is this:

I will have a separate post for Gulfeńn (and why I am spelling it like that), but for now I want to focus on the human countries.

You might be wondering… how exactly did humans end up on Alledia anyways? Well my friend, I have a surprisingly simple answer for you!

I don’t fully know :/

I’d like to think they stumbled across the “Gate” (or portal thingy that Emily stumbled into) at some point hundreds of years ago, and adapted accordingly… but that leaves a couple of plot holes (how did that many people fit through the Gate? How did people of that many different cultures come all at once?) so let’s just not think about that for now 😅

The time period in which this will be set is more so in the 1930’s-1940’s. Because this is fantasy, we don’t have to be exact, and we can be a bit more flexible with “historical accuracy” or whatever.

I feel like a war oriented story such as this would benefit more from a Dieselpunk aesthetic. That way we have a bit of the modern age to work with, in terms of technology, and a thematic framework for the story right off the bat.

Here is an example of Dieselpunk! This piece is called Gray Monster by Jakub Rozalski:

I think mechs, blimps, and wartime would work perfectly with this genre of punk

final quick note, in my version of this story there are a couple different powers at play: The Common Alliance (bad-ish guys), The Resistance (okay guys), Gulfeńn (bad-ish guys), Ceilis (meh guys), and the Luna Moth Crew (good guys!)

Remember, this is an ongoing WAR. It is NOT a good time to live in Alledia, and the world should feel as such. With that being said, this is not going to be a “gritty” depressing story. I still want to capture the magic that the early books had. We can still have some fun with it!

Kind of also want to do a Kazuki sickfic because the idea of Rei running around, having absolutely zero skills to nursing someone back to health, let alone an adult (possibly his 👀👀👀 boyfriend) as it can be different that a child, and no idea on what to do because caring for sick Miri took 10 years off his life and now Kazuki!!!! Seems absolutely hilarious to me. And then Miri being sweet adorable little Miri trying to help take care of Papa-Kazu in her own way.

Kazuki also kind of seems like he would self isolate as well and convince everyone he’s fine because he doesn’t want them to worry or fret over him…. Possibly having someone care for him reminds him too much of his ex-wife and that hurts… brings up painful memories. Damn then you could have his fever spike too and he starts crying and getting REALLY emotional because he’s so out of it and Rei is just like omfg wtf do I do!?!?!?!

Rei actually getting emotional at one point when Kazuki passes out from fever and Rei breaks, asking Kazuki repeatedly, what should I do? Tell me what to do! Maybe Rei dragging Kazuki to the bathroom and throwing him in the tub (all a little rougher than he wanted but damn it- he’s freaked), soaking rags in the cool water to try and bring down Kazuki’s temperature. Miri helps and eventually Kazuki opens his eyes slowly, his voice hoarse, “R-Rei?��� Rei almost throws himself at Kazuki when he heard his name, pulling him in a tight hug that alarms the other man (because Rei with emotions!?!?!) but he softens after a few and pats Rei’s shoulder weakly- Miri jumps up because she wants to be apart of the hug too!!!! Yeah idk lol 😂

Could you imagine, especially if the theory surrounding him collecting intel on Kazuki or working for the Boss and basically Kazuki is his target turns out to be right- because Rei would be like, I’m supposed to be collecting intel on this idiot! Not cradling him in my arms! Wtf!?!?!?! (Lol is this a Lance/Keith situation?)

Lol- the Boss sent me to collect intel on this guy/ put a hit on him and now we’re married with a kid… imagine the Boss just hearing this from one of his henchman during a debriefing of the KazuRei operation and shaking his head like wtf is my son doing!?!?!?!

October 1866, a few new people had joined the Shinsengumi during the summer. Among them was Kazue Souma and Risaburo Nomura, they are to became Kondou’s pages. Another young man had also joined, Tetsunosuke Ichimura, who has become Hijikata’s page. Along him was Tatsunosuke, his older brother. The brothers were both taken in, though with how young Tetsunosuke was, there was a bit of resistance until Tatsunosuke convinced Kondou and Hijikata.

Chizuru was to be in charge of teaching them how to do their job, being she’s Haruka’s page. Of course, none them knew she was a woman as her pretending to be a male.

“Yukimura-senpai?” Souma said. “Is this tea alright?”

“Ah, well..It might be a bit too hot.” Chizuru said.

“Oh. I guess it is hot today..” Souma looked down at the tea.

“So what do we do? Water it down? ” Nomura asked.

"I-It will lose flavor that way, Nomura.." Chizuru pointed out

"Ah, right..." Nomura tilted his head back thinking.

“What about cooling it down with well water?” Tetsunosuke said.

“Oh! That’s smart!” Nomura looked at the younger boy in delight.

“Ah! Wait!” Chizuru said. “It doesn't have to be that cold, just a little warmer than room temperature.”

“Oh, yeah, you’re right. Hmm…” Tetsunosuke crossed his arms to think.

That’s when they heard footsteps. “I see we have new members.” The four of them turned to see Haruka.

“Haruka-san! You’re back!” Chizuru said. “Did things go well?”

Haruka sighed. “It bared no fruit, I’m afraid. I thought it was worth the trip but it seems it really was too good to be true. Sorry, Chizuru.”

“Oh..I see.” Chizuru then put her hands together. “Ah, I should introduce you!” At each them, Chizuru introduced the boys to Haruka. “These are new pages. Kazue Souma, Risaburo Nomura, and Tetsunosuke Ichimura. Souma and Nomura are Kondo-San’s page. Tetsunksuke is Hijikata’s.”

Haruka put a hand on her hip. “Oh? Didn’t think Hijikata would take a page for himself.” She then smiled at the three. “I’m Haruka Shinomi. And Chizuru is my page.”

“Sorry but I wasn’t aware the Shinsengumi let women joined.” Souma said.

“Yeah, thought it was just men.” Nomura said.

“I’m not part of the Shinsengumi. I’m an Okuzume working with them.”

“O-Okuzume!” Nomura said.

“Shinomi…” Tetsunosuke thought for a second. “Ah! The Icy Okuzume!? Then you are Shinomi-sama!” The three boys then stepped back.

Haruka caught on to the young boys words and kept them for later. “No need to be so formal.”

“W-We don’t?” Souma asked.

Haruka shook her head. “No. Not at all.” She then looked at Chizuru. “Did Shigeru give you any trouble?”

“Not at all.”

“Wait..that baby is yours?” Nomura blinked at Haruka.

Haruka just nodded her head. “He is. I’m married to the 10th division captain, Sanosuke Harada.”

“This…is a lot of information to take in.” Souma said.

Haruka chuckled. "Well, you'll get used to it. Along with other surprises the Shinsengumi can come up with.... Anyway, Chizuru, how do you think their doing?"

Chizuru smiled. "They're eager to learn and get along well. I've been teaching them what I know, like serving tea and how to attend to Hijikata-san and Kondo-san."

"That's good." Haruka said. "Guess you're actually a good teacher. And for you three," she turned to Souma, Nomura, and Tetsunosuke, "I'm available for advice if Chizuru can't help you with something."

"Thank you, Haruka-senpai," Souma said, expressing gratitude.

Haruka nodded. "Alright, I'll let you continue what you were doing." She then walked away, off to find her husband and son. But when she found a moment, she was able to pull Tetsunosuke alone in a room.

“Tetsunosuke…Why did you call me Shinomi-sama?”

“B-Because the Shinomi clan protects us..”

“Who told you this? And what do you mean by us?”

Tetaunosuke looked down. “My father told me that we could rely on the Shinomi clan if we ever ran into one. Tatsunosuke and I are..well..”

“Ichimura…You were a small demon clan right?”

Tetsunosuke nodded his head. “We were..basically ran out of our home by humans. And not a lot of us found a place to live. My older brother and I are the only ones left.”

Haruka sighed. “Ah. I guess I need to update that...Tetsu-kun..If you want to call me Shinomi-sama, it’s okay. But do not reveal what you are, okay? The only people who now about demons at the moment are myself, Miko, Shota, and My husband, Harada.”

“Not even Hijikata-san knows?”

“No. There may be a time where that comes but not soon. If anything, I will reveal it when the time is right. Understood?”

Tetsunosuke nodded his head. "T-Thank you, Haruka-sama." "Thank me?" "Yeah. Tatsu-nii and I have a home again. Even if it is with the Shinsengumi, we feel we belong. And with you here, it feels even better! We owe you!"

Haruka gave a soft smile. "Just don't get in trouble, Tetsu-kun. Tell you're brother the same thing I just told you, Okay?" Tetsunosuke just nodded his head gratefully.

The first thought that crosses your mind is that it feels sticky. Not figuratively, because air can't actually be sticky, but metaphorically it absolutely feels like you've just stepped into some icky environment where the only air you can breathe is thick and gooey and disgusting.

The music and chatter are so loud you clench the plastic bag filled with the stupid chicken empanadas you've let Yoimiya, your roommate, convince you to bring to the stupid party you didn't even want to go to in the first place. She, on the other hand, seems ecstatic as always. The energy she carries around never fails to match the environment she finds herself in and her bubbly personality is the perfect match for rooms filled with obnoxious, loud, excited people. Like the one you're currently in.

“It was so nice of him to invite us!” she happily looks around and waves to a stranger or two as your nose cynically scrunches up.

“It was nice. We didn't have to accept” you grumble, mindlessly leaving the plastic bag on a kitchen counter filled with bottles, toppled red cups and chip crumbs. Even this room is filled with people, which is enough to make you attempt a deep breath to swallow your anxiety. Small apartment plus hordes of guests is one of the worst equations you can be part of.

“But he wanted you to come so bad” she grins, casually diving one hand into one of the colorful bag of snacks abandoned on the table.

“It was a guilt-ridden invitation. He knows he hasn't done shit for our group project and still managed to score a good grade”

“Thanks to you”

“Thanks to me, Sara, Kazu, and Thoma”

Yoimiya impatiently rolls her eyes.

“Okay, but he was still nice enough to invite you to his party. This could be our chance to meet new people!”

“Christ, just go tell the Kamisato siblings you have a crush on them so we can leave”

Your best friend opens her mouth to protest, cheeks already flushed, but is interrupted by both the laugh you huff and a boisterous voice from behind you that makes you jump.

“You came!” Itto cheers, crimson eyes boring into yours and smile so wide you're almost tempted to reciprocate right away.

“Thanks for inviting us” you feel yourself sound so proper and polite you suddenly wish Sara could've been there instead of having to surrender to the supid flu. She would've pinched you.

“Nah, don't mention it! What can I get ya?” Itto is so tall and broad he's basically hovering above you but he has this weird, affable aura that never once makes him intimidating. He'd meet someone and become their friend in the span of 30 seconds, something very similar to what had happened when you were assigned to the same group project. He had arrived at the campus library, cracked one joke, offered to get everyone coffee to apologize for being late and boom, he instantly became everyone's favorite person (an outrage, given that you, Thoma and Kazuha grew up together and Sara is one of your closest friends). What makes it worse is that it's impossible to dislike him because he's so irritatingly genuine. Not an ounce of deceit in that gigantic body.

“Thanks, m'good” you mutter.

“If you don't drink there's a bowl of virgin sangria” he hasn't looked away from your eyes once so you nervously shift your weight from one leg to the other. Yoimiya has disappeared god knows where, your guess is she's on a mission to grab enough mojitos to muster the courage to introduce herself to Ayaka by the end of the night. It'd be about damn time.

“Okay”

His smile is blinding as he reaches across the kitchen counter to fill you a glass. He's grabbed a proper one, not one of those red plastic cups.

“Thank you” your fingers graze his as you accept the glass. They're cold, must be why you shudder. Does he ask someone to paint his nails black or does he do that himself?

“So, uh, how come the rest of our group couldn't come?” he's invited everyone, of course he has. It's hard to ignore the way your stomach contracts at the way the words our group leave his mouth. It sounds good. It sounds non temporary. It sounds threacherous.

“Sara's sick, Kazu and Thoma are having one of their dumb gaming nights”

“Right!” he laughs another one of his overexcited laughs “their channel's so cool!”

“Would you be there too?” now that's one malicious smirk, sharp but cute canine teeth in plain sight. Fuck.

“It's not really my thing” you attempt to brush the question off with a nervous chuckle. He opens his mouth to respond with god knows what charismatic comeback but, thankfully, he's interrupted by a clearly drunk Gorou who materializes next to him and places a small hand on his massive shoulder.

“M'looking for more shrimps” he leans into his arm and hiccups. Itto rolls his eyes with fake annoyance but you can read the fondness in them.

“Whatcha gonna do with shrimps?” he politely asks, foot tapping impatiently.

“Did I say shrimps?” Gorou chuckles to himself "I meant drinks"

You seize the opportunity to sneak out of the kitchen and dive right into the living room and its throng of guests. Catching a glimpse of Yoimiya sitting on a couch next to the Kamisato siblings makes you smile, but you don't let yourself get distracted and keep marching towards your (hopefully) oasis of fresh air and muffled music: the balcony.

As you close the sliding door behind you, the cold breeze feels like a balm on your feverish skin. You quite literally sink onto the orange bean bag and take a deep breath, fingers clenching the glass still in your hand. Okay you might, perhaps, have a small crush on the tall, broad, popular idiot. You might think the red makeup that extends from his upper eyelid to this lower one is attractive, you may wonder if his silver hair is as soft as it looks, and it's possible that you have asked yourself how his arms would feel under your fingertips, how his muscles would contract if you so much as grazed—

“Nope” you grumble to yourself and promptly take your phone out of your pocket, tapping your dating app open right away. It hasn't worked wonders for you (yet) but it's a nice diversion and some guys are entertaining enough for you not to want to stick a fork in their eye. Not immediately, at least.

“6'3 my ass!” the proximity of the woefully familiar voice makes you jump but Itto doesn't lose his composure as he rubs his chin, eyes skeptically scanning the bio of the red haired guy you didn't actually want to swipe away.

“What?” you're appalled as he casually sits down next to you, back pressed against the sliding door, so close his knee is brushing against your thigh.

“He's lying. I can tell” he shrugs “why're you using that shit anyway?”

“You don't?” in an attempt to dodge a question that makes you appear equal parts lame and pathetic, you ask an even dumber one. As if he would ever need to.

“Yeah, sometimes. M'not really lucky though” he takes a sip from the beer can in his hand.

Huh?

“You're kidding” it's impossible to hide your skepticism and he smiles at your frown.

“I have a hard time dealing with women”

“There's literally a facebook group named after your abs”

He laughs at that, although it's a softer sound that surprises you.

“I know, I've been invited to join” his chuckle fades into a sweet smile, eyes suddenly avoiding your gaze “but doesn't really matter when you feel so inadequate, does it?”

The Arataki Itto feels what?

“Are you drunk?” you inquire and he glances at you again, making your heart skip a beat. You've never been close enough to smell his woodsy cologne before.

“It's true. I try to compensate, ya know, by being all loud and positive and exuberant but I hardly fit in and no one ever takes me seriously” he takes another sip from his can and then proceeds to slowly crumple it up in his hand “shit, s'weird. This is the first time I’ve felt the need to confess. Am I being too lame?”

“No” your reply is as quick as your pulse, although slightly quavering “I don't think you could be lame if you tried”

Itto's gaze softens as he lets it flicker from your eyes to your lips, as if to make sure you've actually uttered those words. He absentmindedly raises his hand to cup your cheek, brows furrowed in concentration as his thumb gently strokes the corner of your mouth to get rid of a pinkish droplet of your mocktail.

“So” he tilts his head as a curious puppy would, absolutely unaware of how dry your throat suddenly is “am I not lame enough to kiss you?”

while i’m on that mitsuya repeatedly calls draken in the middle of the night around the time where he died in the other timeline to make sure he’s alive. mikey just makes draken sleep over in his bed and solves the problem with that lol

Today, as my writing exercise, I took Morro's basic character premise ("summoned ghost who wants power") and re-interpreted it as the start to three different stories. Here they are!

One

The spectral takes the form of a boy in ragged clothes, and when I look at his face it clicks that I know this boy–at least, I've seen him in old family pictures dressed much nicer than he is now. He was the high school student my grandparents hosted for a time, and they recalled him as the quiet teen who would talk your ear off about old ruins and tombs. Months before graduation, police found him dead outside the church, seemingly in the process of digging up someone else's grave. My grandmother always said he was a kind, gentle boy, which I take to mean he never held a knife to her throat the way he's holding one to mine.

Two

Clarissa double-checked her spellbook. "You're not a demon," she informed the ghost standing in the magic circle. "You're supposed to be."

"Am I supposed to be bound to you, too?" the boy said in a bored tone of voice.

"I didn't mess that part up," she said. "Tell me your real name."

"Kazuhiko," he said at once. Then, "Wait, no, I didn't–ugh, just Kazu is fine."

Clarissa sighed and clapped the spellbook shut. Might as well make the best of it. "Stay incorporeal," she said. "You may not touch or interact with anything in the living world without my permission. You are permitted only to speak to me. Nod if you understand."

Kazu nodded with a grimace. "So I am to be your servant," he said. "Great, fantastic. Definitely wanted to spend my afterlife like this."

"Oh, hush." Clarissa wiped the chalk off the floor, dismissing the circle. "You're only here until I can actually summon a *real* demon, and then I'll put you back."

"I don't mind being summoned," Kazu snapped. "It's being subject to your every whim I despise. If you're going to demand so much of me, how about you promise me a favor?"

Three

His parents requested he have a spirit summoned to guide him through university, which Tavish wasn't keen on, but hey, the ghost seemed amicable enough, and it wasn't like he could make any other friends. "So," he said out loud, while the ball of light led him down the hall, "how did you get this job?"

"It's part of a program," the ghost said in an echo-y voice. "Students who died before completing their studies can get their degrees by helping a living student."

"Huh." Tavish frowned. "Shouldn't you just get the degree anyway? It feels unfair to make you work for it after you died."

"So?" the ghost paused at the stairwell doors. "Wasn't the school's fault I died. I'm lucky they even felt sorry enough for this."

Tavish opened the door and started climbing. "Death's kind of a big thing, is it?" he said. "Even if it wasn't their fault… I dunno. Even if the dead come back, we have funerals for a reason."

"Tell that to them." The ghost huffed. "Come on, it's just a little further."

The door at the top of the stairwell was locked. "Huh," said Tavish. "Are you sure this is the way to class?"

"Never mind that."

The temperature dropped. Tavish stepped back in alarm, but cold, transparent hands grabbed his shoulders.

"You're going to open that door," the ghost whispered in his ear, "and I'm going to finish what I started."

this relationship is the one, everyone talks about. you guys are the couple thats lowkey toxic but you guys are toxic together. the good moments make up for all the bad ones and all you guys need to do is kiss and make up a bit,, come on itll be ok.

this relationship is kinda,, sad. its love and thankfully it has nothing to do with how you treat eachother, its how you both feel inside. hopefully you're both able to work on your confidence because i promise, when you both learn to love yourselves, you can love eachother. (i means this! ik this is fake but i hope you love yourself!) in the end, you both feel guilty, feeling this relationship isn't enough for the other,but its an enjoyable one. so even if it does end, you love eachother sill no matter what.

Given that the production is a fusion with Japanese drums, is there anything in particular you want listeners to take note of?

A. The Taiko is more of a percussion instrument than one that plays a definitive melody, right? They complement the underlying rhythm and highlight the track's groove. In a very good sense, the collaboration is well-balanced with THE RAMPAGE's music and does not clash with our performance. With immense force, "Don! Don!" The vibrations that emanate from each swing are very powerful, and evoke a pleasant feeling. We show off a bit in the music video (laughs), but Drum Tao's performance has a raw feel to it and it's super cool! So I want people to see Drum Tao rather than us! Ha-ha-ha!

*Note: The Taiko is traditionally used in traditional Japanese music to create powerful percussive beats. It is often played in unison with other instruments and can create a unique and powerful sound.

A. There are several approaches to consider. Everyone has a good attitude! And has a willingness to work respectfully. Just as with Drum Tao, I realize people who have successfully mastered something are all cool in their own way.

The RAMPAGE's music is diverse and spans a variety of genres. How do you always come up with new ways to express yourself?

A. I've never paid much attention to distinctions in our work. Whatever comes my way, I can handle it! (laughs) Until now, I could only think of one or two songs that I found extremely difficult. I don't recall much about it now. I only remember thinking it was hard work at the time. When I'm doing something new or dealing with people or things with whom I've never worked before, I can do so without tension.

Can you use what you’ve accomplished thus far to showcase your abilities at any given time?

A. I always assume that I am doing exactly what I have always done. However, there are times when I question whether I am doing the right thing. As far as my approach goes, I don't really think it's anything new but rather a means to an end, with the goal or finished product being what's most important. I have a clear vision of what I want to do, and when I find a song that I really enjoy, such as "Everest" for example, I'm like, "That's it!" Even if there isn’t, I will do my best to create good things. My approach remains the same, without pretense. When the opportunity to do what I want presents itself, I can talk about it with a great deal of enthusiasm, but I don't get too carried away.

I think most people's motivation varies depending on the nature of their work. What is the secret to maintaining a level head?

A. It is true that my own motivations have changed. Professionally, it is my responsibility to give my best effort regardless of the circumstances, and well, I have no other choice (laughs). When I joined the agency, I admired "EXILE" because I wanted to be an artist like them and achieve big success. I also long to go to Tokyo Dome, and I love music in general. So, when you think about something that should be tackled under such a basic premise on a yes-or-no basis, even if something different comes along, I can see that it still fits within the general scheme of things overall. I like games, so I think it's the same thing. Apart from having a main quest or storyline, assuming there are sub-quests within that, I would still want to complete them all (laughs). Essentially, it's a similar feeling, and it encourages me, especially if it's a game I enjoy!

Do you find the sub-quests to be just as fascinating?

A. Absolutely. When you actually do it, there is a sense of achievement and new discoveries to be reached. Plus, it’s a good challenge. This is perhaps one of the reasons why I am not too rigid in my approach. Regardless of how much I like it, if I decide to limit myself by saying, "This is all I can do," I don't think my potential will expand any further than that. I am able to listen to other people's opinions without compromising my own beliefs, so all in all, I think I’m doing pretty well (laughs).

I don't know if I have ever mentioned it, but back in 2020 when I just started high school I had a big otome phase. I remember looking for a new otome game in January 2020 and found two - one which actually turned out to be otome and a3 as they both seemed interesting plot wise. I only found out that google play app store had fooled me when I downloaded a3 tho. I remember playing one of kazu's cards and there were 3 options you could choose to answer so I was like 'oh okay which one raises the intimacy lvl?' and when I clicked on all of them out of curiosity, I found out they don't do much :(

And this was when it hit me that it's just a visual novel about acting and friendship and later on also found family, but without the otome part. Tbh I could phrase it like this - started for non-existent otome, stayed for the story. I really like the game and I'm in the fandom for like 4 years now even when eng sadly ended.

The only thing I am mad at myself about is my own stupidity at first while playing. Cause I thought that a3 just ends after the act 1 main story and won't have more parts or events. So I technically didn't uninstall it, just left it on my phone in case I would like to go through the story once again when I would feel like it. I reminded myself of a3 when I talked to my classmate about it (and lowkey got her into it, she watched the anime even) which was December 2021. Almost 2 years of not playing. So you can imagine my shock when I got back into the game and saw that not only it wasn't updating anymore, there is supposed to be a server shut down and that they will end the game in barely 3 months officially.

Basically I didn't play any event so idk how that feels and works as I missed every single one (but I have heard that ranking was hell), also then I discovered there's act 2 and tried to get to know who the rookies were. Before the official closing I was able to at least finish the whole 'Awakening Moon' and half of Kumon's story. I remember the last card I got was also my one and only SR of Azuma that I was so happy to receive (it was during my entrepreneurship class ksjshsk).

Likes to drink wine or other drinks with you, just chilling—she probably has a table placed on the balcony just so you both could hang out there whenever she doesn’t have any work. 

If she’s busy with Favonius work, she always makes sure that she comes back home to take a break and would pull you into a cuddling sesh without a word—she’s so exhausted she needs her energy booster… which is you. 

She likes going on fancy dates, or if you don’t want to go out, she’ll bring the fancy date at home and she’d cook for you, prepare dancy drinks and have you both wear fancy clothes.

Would be asking you to be her dance partner every now and then. 

Maybe if you let her, would even teach you how to handle weapons or ask you to assist her in training. 

And the girl is also loaded; she'll definitely give you gifts every now and then. 

Basically, she’s someone who likes to share things with you; memories, her things, etc. Whatever she has will be yours essentially—and eventually.

Actually likes staying at home and do nothing

She’s a very busy person so having to rest and be with you is something that she’d really like—-as long as no work comes in the way or else she’ll really do it no matter how menial or heavy it is. 

When she works though, she actually likes your company—you do distract her quite a lot, even if you’re not doing anything and maybe just staring at her with a sweet smile or something, expect our girl here to blush in embarrassment or look away. 

Would definitely be even more distracted if you ask her to sit on your lap as she works on whatever work she has. 

Likes eating meals with you! She always makes sure that before she leaves for work, you and her had eaten breakfast together, or if she’s coming home and she’d make sure she’s early enough until it’s your time to eat so you both could eat together. 

She also likes going out with you but of course, she mostly likes staying at home. 

I bet she’d gladly give you a bite of her Golden Shrimp Balls if you ever ask her what it tastes like—as it’s something she always orders… It's definitely her favorite food. 

Things she doesn’t do often, she’d like to try them with you. For some reason, she feels even more courageous with you there… plus she wants to make the moments even more special… and having you there makes anything special.

That Takemichi one was so adorable I actually giggled in my bed. Could I request a make out session with Mikey and Kazutora with a gn reader? The reader is much taller then them and hella strong. So when Mikey is acting all high and mighty the reader basically just makes out with him in front of everyone and for the rest of the day he is to red in the face and can’t speak so he hides in your chest. Kazutora just needs love and affection and the reader is more then willing to give him that affection. Just being taller and stronger then him makes him feel secure. But this type while he was having those little moments you were behind him and the gang members were trying to warn Mikey you were behind him, but he didn’t listen.

“Oh? What’s this?” You asked with a smirk making Mikey jump like a cat. He quickly looked behind him and saw you towering over him.

“I-It’s noth-” You cut Mikey off as he gently grabbed the side of his face and started kissing him deeply not caring that everyone from Toman was staring with gaped mouths and red faces.

When you pulled away Mikey’s face was red and his mouth was gaped open.

For the rest of the day he just hid his face in your chest completely embarrassed. Kazutora may or may not have gotten kinda jealous from seeing that happen. “What’s with the pout Kazu?” You asked.

“It’s nothin’ just a little-” “Jealous? Come here.” You said with a smirk and patted the seat next to you. Kazutora waltzed his face over and sat down.

You gentle grabbed Kazutora’s jaw and pressed your lips against his lips. You pressed your tongue against Kazutora’s teeth basically asking for access and he allowed.

He gripped onto your sleeves as you harshly, yet passionately, kissed him. Mikey watched as only one thought passed thought.
