Lee’s funeral is everything he wouldn’t have wanted it to be. It’s a fanfare of people he couldn’t stand parading through the ranch and giving his father their condolences with a sincerity that borders on pathological. You can’t fucking stand it so you leave, you stand right up in the middle of the service and go because this shit, it isn’t Lee.

When Kayce finds you, it’s three hours later and you’re sitting in that field of wildflowers, your feet dipped into the stream the two of you bathed in during your honeymoon. The water feels warm as it runs over your feet and you remember the expression on Lee’s face when he held you close and you’d promised him you’d love him until his dying day.

“I won’t apologise.” You tell Kayce as he sits down alongside you, stripping off his own boots and socks before rolling up the cuffs of his jeans. He had been the only one not wearing a suit, the only one to respect Lee’s wishes.

“You never have to apologise to me.” He says as he leans back and tilts his head up towards the sun. “Lee would have hated all that shit anyway.”

“Yea.” You say, kicking your feet a little in the water. “He would have.”

The silence between you grows and you find yourself thinking of the child nestled inside you, the one that will never know it’s father. You want to say something to Kayce, to tell him but then you remember the promise you made Lee, about how the two of you would escape this legacy, how your child would never feel the burden of it.

“What happens next?” Kayce asks you interrupting your thoughts, his eyes are closed as the sun bathes his rugged features.

“California.” You say quietly. “The cars packed up and ready to go, I just wanted to come here and say goodbye one last time.”

“It’s a special place…” Kayce agrees and you can hear the sadness this place, it doesn’t even belong to them anymore. The deed is in the hands of a man who owns the ranch next to the Duttons because John had wanted to punish his oldest son for loving you.

“I should get going.” You say as you raise to your feet and Kayce remains seated, his gaze fixated on the pastures in front of him. “I’ve got a long drive ahead of me.”

“I’m gonna stay a while.” He says, his fingers threading through the grass underneath him. “I’m not ready to let go just yet.”

Your eyes sting at the sentiment, your palm coming to rest on his shoulder, squeezing it lightly.

“Take care Kayce.” You say, unable to keep the sorrow out of your voice and Kayce, he doesn’t respond because he’s trying not to cry underneath the brim of Lee’s cowboy hat.

Your heart aches as you leave the wild bloom, your fingertips brushing over the dainty petals for the very last time.

“You have to promise me, we’ll get the hell out of this place.” Lee had whispered as you lay tangled up in bed together the night you’d found out you were pregnant. “That we won’t end up trapped by it.”

“I won’t let that happen.” You had vowed as his palm came to rest on the space where the baby resided in your belly, his thumb smoothing lightly over the fabric of the plaid shirt you were wearing. “We’ll get out, I promise you we will.”

And that’s what you do, you and Lee’s son, you get the hell out of Bozeman and you don’t ever look back.

a/n: THERE ISN’T ANY SPOILERS OF THE FIRST TWO S5 EPISODES IN THIS. also should i make this a series?? or make more fics with this dynamic couple. please let me know! also this is my first kayce request! so please, be nice to me. my yellowstone are open too! and this wasn’t proofread, so i’m sorry for any grammar mistakes

You couldn’t believe it. You were about to enter the place where you used to work for five years. You used to work at the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. You worked as one of the wranglers, but that all ended. It all ended because you got pregnant. And the one that got you pregnant was Kayce, your boss's son. You two had a secret relationship while you were working on the ranch. The moment that you found out that you were pregnant. You immediately packed up your bags and left the ranch without telling anyone. You didn’t want the others to find out that you were pregnant, and most definitely. Who got you pregnant, because if they did. You could be in deep trouble. So that’s why you left, but little did you know. When Kayce found out the next day. He was upset. He didn’t know what to do without you. He hoped you would come back again someday and explain why you left without telling anyone. And that someday is today.

“Here goes nothin’, you sighed to yourself. You took your car out of park and drove through the entrance of the ranch. The moment you started driving through the entrance of the ranch. You felt your heart start to beat very fast, and you even felt your palms start becoming sweaty against the steering wheel. You had so many things running through your head right now. You weren’t sure how Kayce and even John were going to react to you being back at the ranch and even having a baby on your hip.

When you finally reached the house. You parked your car and got out. You grabbed your daughter from the backseat and took her out of her car seat, and placed her on your hip. While you were walking up to the house. You noticed Kayce's truck and even John’s truck were parked outside. You were now even more nervous than you were when you first arrived because you know that the moment you knock on the front door. You’re going to face Kayce or either John, or either of the both of them.

You walked up the steps and to the front door of the house. You raised your free hand to knock on the door. You were waiting there anxiously for the door to be opened. The moment the door opened. You were face to face with Kayce.

“Oh my goodness,” Kayce said. He was surprised that he could barely get any words out of his mouth. He couldn’t even gather the fact that you were standing right in front of him. For the majority of the past year and a half. He thought that you left Montana and never looked back, but here you are. Back at the ranch where you used to work, and the same place that you called home. Another thing he couldn’t even gather was the fact that you had a baby on your hip.

“Uh- can we talk? please,” you asked him nervously.

“Yeah,” Kayce nodded. He moved out of the way, so then you could enter the house. Once you entered the house, he closed the door behind you. Then he walked towards the living room and you followed right behind him.

“Please sit,” He motioned towards one of the couches when you walked into the living room. You took a seat on the couch, and you set your daughter down on the ground right in front of your feet. Kayce sat down on the opposite side of the couch that you were sitting on.

“Uh- I don’t even know how to explain everything,” you said, as you started to play with the promise ring that was on your finger. The promise ring was a gift from Kayce. You received the ring as a fourth-anniversary present. You still can’t believe that you still wear the ring on your finger. After everything that happened, you should have taken it off, but you just couldn’t.

“Well, you could explain why you decided to pack up your things and left without telling anyone. Or you could explain why you’re back here with a baby,” Kayce stated. His voice sounded cold and angry.

“Well, the whole reason why I left was because I got pregnant…a-and I-I’m back here with a baby because I thought it was a good idea to finally come back, so then you could finally meet our daughter,” you said, as you turned your head towards Kayce’s direction. All of a sudden you noticed that he had a soft look in his eyes. You were now hoping his voice wasn’t cold and angry anymore after what you just said to him.

“Wait. Our daughter?”

“Yeah,” you nodded. You had tears starting to form in your eyes. After you said that, you were regretting leaving in the first place. Kayce shouldn't be meeting his daughter in this type of way. He should have met her the moment she was born. The moment when she was placed on your chest.

“I’m gonna need a minute,” Kayce said, as he got up from the couch and walked away toward the kitchen.

“Okay,” you nodded. “I’ll be here when you get back.” You picked up your daughter from the floor and placed her back on your hip.

When Kayce walked into the kitchen. He walked in and immediately made eye contact with his father since he was in there. He was pouring coffee into his coffee cup. Kayce was now wondering if his father heard the whole conversation that went down in the living room not too long ago.

“Son, do you want to explain to me who you were just talking to, in the living room?” Also explain to me while you were talking to that someone, I heard them say, ‘our daughter?’

“Fuck,” Kayce whispered under his breath. He was mad that his father heard the whole conversation that he had with you. He was now going to have to explain to his father the truth and how he technically just found out today that he has been a father for at least a year now. “Uh- I was talking to Y/N.”

“Y/N? As in, Y/N Y/L/N? The one that used to work on the ranch?” John questioned his son.

“Yes,” Kayce nodded. “And the whole reason why you heard her say to me, ‘our daughter’ is because of the looks of it. I got her pregnant.”

When those words came out of Kayce’s mouth. John didn’t even know what to say, or how to react. The only thing he knew was that he was technically a grandfather now, and his son was a father. There was just quietness in the air. Kayce didn’t like that. He wanted his father to say something to him about what he just said.

“Dad? Aren’t you going to say anything about what I just told you?” Kayce asked him.

John put his coffee cup on the kitchen counter and faced toward where Kayce was standing. “Son, what do you want me to say?”

“Uh- I don’t know. Anything, to be honest,” He shrugged his shoulders.

“Well, I guess I could say that I’m pretty okay with the situation. But…it just upsets me that you were going behind my back and started to date her, and even gotten her pregnant. And you know how I feel when you or either your siblings go behind my back and do something,” John explained.

“How do you think I feel?” Kayce said. “I’m upset because obviously when she found out she was pregnant she just decided to leave and not say anything to anyone or anything, or even explain how she and I were about to become parents for the first time.”

All John could do was put his head down, and look down at his feet. He couldn’t bear the fact that his son was angry and even upset with the whole situation.

“What should I do, dad? Should I tell her to leave and never look back? Or should I start over with her?”

John looked up from the ground and looked at Kayce. “What you should do is start over with her. Get to know the whole story about why she left without an explanation, and get to know your daughter. Especially find out what her name is, and exactly how old she is at the moment.”

“Okay,” Kayce nodded. He walked out of the kitchen and back to the living room where you were at. When he walked in, he saw you were still sitting in the same spot as you were when he first left to go to the kitchen, and he even saw that you had your daughter on your hip again.

“So? Is everything okay?”

“Yeah. Everything is okay. My dad was in the kitchen when I walked in, so I explained to him about who I was talking to, and how by the looks of it. I got you pregnant,” Kayce explained.

“Omg. What did he say? Is he mad about this? Because if he is, I can leave and never come back, and we can all forget that this ever happened,” you said, as you stood up and were about to walk to the front door and head out with your daughter.

“No he isn’t mad about this,” Kayce reassured you.

“Oh,” you said as you sat back down on the couch. You put your daughter on the floor right in front of you, just like you did earlier when you arrived at the house. “Well, what did he say about this then?”

“Well, he told me that he’s okay with this situation. But on the other hand, he’s upset that I was going behind his back, and started to date you, and then, of course, ended up getting you pregnant,” Kayce explained. “Also speaking of me getting you pregnant, why did you leave after you found out?

You couldn’t even look Kayce in the eyes. You could tell by the tone of Kayce’s voice. He wasn’t happy at all. You took a deep breath and said, “I left after I found out because I didn't want anyone to find out about it, because if anyone did. Then I would start getting questions about who got me pregnant. Plus, I didn’t want anyone to find out the truth about you and me.”

“Why didn’t you tell me? We could have figured something out.”

“I don’t know,” you shook your head. “I panicked and I thought the right option was to leave and not say anything. But now, I regret doing that. I regret not telling you about how we were going to become parents for the first time, and I regret not having your dad know the truth about us. I’m sorry. I’m sorry for not telling you. I messed up badly.”

Kayce scooted closer to where you were sitting on the couch, and put his two hands on your cheeks to stop you from rambling. “Hey. Look at me.” You looked at him, and when you did. Kayce noticed that you started to form tears in your eyes. It broke his heart. He always hated seeing you upset in any type of way. “It’s okay. I promise.”

“So, you’re not mad or anything like that?” you asked.

“No,” He shook his head. He took his hands off your cheeks. “Just a little upset, but I’ll get over it real soon. I promise. Also, I have two questions to ask you.”

“Okay,” you nodded. “What are the two questions?”

“The first question is can we start over? And Is it possible that I can get to know who my daughter is?” Kayce asked.

“Of course,” you smiled. You picked up your daughter from the floor. She was just chewing on her fingers when you picked her up. “Kayce, this is our daughter Sarah Elizabeth Dutton.”

“She’s so cute,” Kayce said.

“She is, she isn’t,” you smiled down at her.

“Also how old is she?”

You looked up and looked at Kayce, “She’s one year old.”

“Wow,” Kayce said. “Next thing you know she’ll be two years old.”

“Yeah,” you nodded. “That just shows that time flies.”

“Yes. It does,” Kayce agreed.

“I have a question for you now,” you said.

“What is it?”

“Do you want to hold our daughter?” you asked him.

“Yes,” Kayce nodded.

You handed Sarah to Kayce. Kayce took her from your arms, and set her on his lap. Sarah didn’t get fussy about how she wasn’t sitting in her mom’s lap anymore. But of course, that was a good thing though. While he was holding her, Sarah kept on babbling. You and Kayce didn’t even know what she was babbling about, but you two thought it was the cutest thing ever. Since she was babbling, and talking. You had the perfect question to ask her. “Sarah. Can you say ‘Dada’?”

Surprisingly not too long after you asked her that question. You and Kayce both heard her say, ‘Dada.’ The moment Kayce heard that word. He started crying. He wasn’t crying because he was upset or anything like that. He was crying because he was happy. He was happy that his daughter said the word ‘Dada.’

“Omg! She actually said it, Kayce. She said ‘Dada’, you said happily.

“Yes. She did.”

It’s been about two hours since you came over to the Dutton Ranch and explained everything to Kayce. After you were able to get Sarah to say ‘Dada.’ You and Kayce were able to catch up on everything, Plus, on top of that, John was able to get to meet his granddaughter. He was happy about that.

“One last question. I promise,” Kayce said to you. He was pretty nervous to ask you the question that he's about to ask you, but since you and he have both officially agreed to get back together and raise Sarah with each other and be a family. In the end, the question is going to make perfect sense.

“What is it?”

“Well, I know that we technically haven’t been back together for not even an hour yet, but I was wondering, do you move in and live with me?” Kayce asked you.

“Yes. Of course,” you nodded. “But what about all of my stuff? Everything I have is back at my apartment.”

“Let’s worry about that later. Okay?”

“Okay,” you nodded.

“For now, let’s just focus on us, and on our daughter who is sleeping peacefully in my arms right now,” Kayce leaned down and kissed the top of Sarah’s forehead. Kayce couldn’t get over how adorable Sarah was. He loved how much she looks like him. He was hoping that his mom was smiling down at him and being proud that he’s a father.

“I think she’s going to become your little sidekick when she gets older,” you commented.

“I think so,” Kayce agreed.

The sight in front of you was making your heart melt. You couldn’t get over how happy Kayce looked holding Sarah. The look in his eyes was just filled with happiness and love. You were glad that you decided to come back to the ranch. You still weren’t happy with yourself about the decision you made when you did find out you were pregnant with Sarah, but that’s all in the past now. The only thing that matters now, was that you and Kayce were back together and that you and he were going to be able to raise your daughter as a couple.

He was gone for exactly 2 weeks before he arrived back home. Y/n had just gotten back from riding around the mountains.

"Kacey!" She jumped off the horse and bolted for him. She jumped onto him and held him close to her but was quick to notice that he didn't return the hug.

"Are you ok?" She questioned running a hand down his chest. His eyes softened.

"We need to talk." He said as Y/n furrowed her brows. The two walked into the house since no one was currently home.

Somewhere in the haze, got a sense I'd been betrayed

"Darling, I'm sorry." He said as she shook her head and paced.

"You slept with another girl, got her pregnant, and all you can say is sorry!" Y/n screamed as tears pricked her eyes.

"I was upset about our fight so I got drunk and it just happened." Kacey explained but Y/n was already upset.

"Fuck that! I cried about you! I was worried about you and where were you? Fucking another girl!" She yelled as John and Beth walked in.

"Who got who pregnant?" John asked taking his hat and coat off.

"Your son, sir." Y/n said calmly while crossing her arms. John thought of Y/n as one of his daughters since he was best friends with her Dad before he passed.

John didn't say anything. He walked up to Kacey and punched him square in the face. Y/n looked down and grimaced. It wasn't unusual for John to hit his sons and she knew better then to interfere.

"You know better, Kacey. Get out!" John yelled and Kacey scrambled to his feet before running out.

"I'm sorry, dear." He said placing a kiss on her forehead before walking upstairs. Beth was long gone probably with Rip so it was just her.

She walked outside to see if Kacey had left. He hadn't. He was sitting on the porch with his heads in his hands.

"I'm sorry. I didn't think he would hit you." She said sitting next to him.

"It's not your fault. I'm gonna go. He doesn't want me here and I don't think you do either." He said standing, hoping that Y/n would argue and say she wanted him there.

She stood and walked back into the house.

Kacey never thought he would see Y/n so when he saw her attempting to train the horse he found, he was shocked.

"Fuck." He mumbled seeing her fall off the horse. He ran to her, with Tate following, as she layed in the same spot.

She was fine. She justed wanted to take a break for a second.

"You ok?" She heard from a voice she knew all to well.

"Peachy." She said sitting up. She got back on the horse and started slow. She didn't notice the kid with him.

"What are you doing here?" Y/n asked as she went in circles slowly.

"Came to see my dad, have you seen him?" She laughed.

"He's probably in the house." She said leading the horse to the barn. She jumped off and took the saddle off the horse. She turned around and saw Kacey with his son.

"You must be Tate." She said bending down to his height as the boy nodded shyly.

"I'm Y/n." She said tipping her hat in his direction.

"You look like you would make a fine cowboy." She said standing up.

"I'm an Indian." He said and she raised a brow.

"Cute kid." She said directed to Kacey who looked down.

"Y/n!" Someone called as they walked out of the barn. Ryan turned the corner with a smile.

"The boys are wondering if you wanted to play poker with us." Ryan asked with a smile which made her smile.

"I would love to but Lee asked if I could go riding with him, Jamie, and John. But I'll swing by later and kick all of your asses." She said crossung her arms. Ryan shook his head with a smile before running back to the bunks.

"You and Ryan?" Kacey asked as she shrugged.

"Fuck no. He's my best friend." She said as the three walked back to the house.

"Monica left me." He said walking towards the bunks.

I just had an idea about a story that I think would be great. It would be a Lee Dutton x reader with alittle kayce x reader - request from @cookiez56-blog

Shutting the front door I gazed out back into the front yard seeing my two children William and Lana who we’re playing tag in the grass off the front porch. My father in law John was sitting beside my husband Lee. Sitting across from them on a small wooden chair I noticed that John was looking at Lana for a long time. “Is something wrong, John?”

“I might be wrong. But I don’t miss anything on this ranch. So does someone want to tell me why Lana looks more like Kayce then she does you and Lee. Cause I want to know if I’m just not awake yet this morning or not.” John ran a hand over his chin in thought then he messed with his white cowboy hat on his head.

Lee and I shifted our gaze back to each other before he reached over grasping my hand in his seeing that I was starting to let some tears fall remembering that day. “He was an idiot to ever do that to you, Y/n.”

“Kayce, I have to tell you something and I’m not sure the best way to do this so….here it is I’m pregnant.” Running my hands through my hair we were about to graduate high school in a few weeks before I found out I had missed my period.

Kayce dropped his hands at his side’s changing his demeanor completely from what I thought he would. “We can’t do this anymore, Y/n.”

“What are you saying?” I dared to ask him horrified of his next response.

The youngest Dutton sent me a half sympathetic look. “Y/n, it won’t work between us anymore. I’m going into the navy and you won’t want to stay worried about me all the time. And you’re probably not going to keep the baby anyway, whoever it belong to.”

“It’s yours asshat!” I blurted out throwing my hands away from my sides feeling heartbroken at what he was saying. “I lost my virginity to you. You’re the only person I have ever slept with!”

He shook his head removing his hat running his fingers through his hair frustrated at me and himself maybe. “I…I don’t know what to say. I didn’t think that it was that easy for you to get…especially the first time. I can’t do this.” He slowly turned on his feet beginning to walk away from me and back up to the main front porch of his family’s home.

Running forward I grabbed Kayce’s wrist holding him to a stop and slapped him across the face where it hurt my hand afterwards. He held his burning cheek that was red. “You are an asshole Kayce John Dutton. I tell you that I’m pregnant and you say that you want nothing to do with me or this kid!”

“Would you believe me if I said I’m terrified as hell and you don’t have to keep the baby.” He grunted still holding his burning red cheek.

Shaking my head I spun on my feet walking away from him about to leave the ranch but I remembered that I left my jacket in the barn. Heading into the barn I grabbed it before I felt heavy tears falling down my face. Throwing my jacket I screamed just kicking the wooden wall with my boots so frustrated and heartbroken by what Kayce just said to me. Gripping my hair in my fingers I heard someone walking towards me. “I don’t want to talk to you ever again Kayce!”

“It’s not Kayce, it’s Lee.” Whipping my head around I slumped my shoulders recognizing his older brother coming towards me. He removed his tan brown hat noticing that I was sobbing through tears. “Hey what’s wrong honey?”

“I’m pregnant with your brothers child…it’s Kayce’s. But he..he just broke up with me and said he doesn’t want it. Lee I, I have no idea what to do next. I don’t think it’s right to abort the baby but otherwise I’m on my own now.” Wrapping my arms around myself I avoided his gaze sniffling through tears that hadn’t stopped coming.

Lee didn’t waste another second before he tugged me into his chest holding me tightly against him. He had one hand in my hair and the other down my back letting me cry into his shirt until I had got it all out and he had a plan inside his mind. He gently held my face in his hands wiping away the tears that had stayed on my cheek. “Y/n, this is what we’re going to do. Nobody knows that you’re pregnant. You and Kayce haven’t been showing off your relationship so we can pass the baby off as mine.”

“Oh Lee I can’t ask you to do that. I mean what if you find someone you actually care about and want to marry someone else someday.” I felt guilty that he might be giving something up to help me out.

The eldest Dutton pressed his forehead against mine not backing down from his plan. “You’re not asking I’m offering you this option. And maybe someday if we got closer we could marry and make this work better. Cause from where I’m standing you wouldn’t be the worst person to be married too.”

Lee and I hadn’t said a word since John was still staring at us waiting for an answer. We really didn’t know what to say to him, as far as he knew until now Lana was Lee’s daughter. Getting to my feet Lee followed my actions taking my hand with my wedding ring on it trying to tell me everything was going to be okay. “Dad, I just want you to know that it was my plan the whole time. Y/n came to me crying and in a panic. So I did whatever I thought would help her.”

“So what we’re saying is that you we’re right. Lana is actually Kayce’s daughter and William is Lee’s. Kayce said he wanted nothing to do with the baby and Lee offered me more than I could have imagined. I’m sorry we didn’t tell you. I…we just thought it was better that no one knew the truth.” Moving my freehand around in front of me I felt a nervous pit in my stomach waiting for his answer.

John tapped his fingers on the armrests of the chair. “If you’re thinking I’d be angry you don’t have anything to be worried about. Regardless of who the birth father is they are each still my grandkids. I love Lana and William both equally.”

“Oh thank you. John I can’t thank you enough.” Covering my mouth with my hands I smiled through happy tears before I moved forward hugging my father in law.

He hugs me back smiling towards his eldest son. “You’re welcome Y/n…you did a good job son.”

We turned our heads seeing the two you kids running up the stairs bouncing around in front of us. Lana had slight curly hair that was the color of Kayce’s hair but she had my eye color. William had my hair color but he was given Lee’s eyes. “Mommy. Daddy, can we get some ice cream?” William asked spinning around in his tiny cowboy boots.

“If grandpa John says it’s okay.” Lee responded wrapping an arm around my waist tugging me into his side smiling down at them.

John tilted his head towards the inside of the house. “Go on kiddos. Just don’t eat too much before dinner.”

“Thank you, grandpa.” Lana ran away from her brother throwing her arms around her grandfather’s neck making him smile toward me and Lee silently telling us that both the kids would be good cowboys and cowgirls when they grow up.

It rare that the Dutton family ever got together to simply have drinks and talk after the long day of work. After the death of Evelyn the family only really focused on work. I have been a childhood best friend with Kayce for years and so I am always here where everyone thought that we would end up together. I once did too until he came back saying he had gotten a girl pregnant and that he was going to live with her. That little baby was Tate who is the nicest boy you will ever meet. Raising the beer bottle to my lips I whipped my head around hearing Tate start screaming from his room. "Tate! I'm coming!" Bolting through the living room I didn't care that everyone was looking at me. Monica lifted her head up watching me heading to aid her child where I heard Kayce's boots halt on the floor watching me. "Sssh Tate. I'm here. You're at the ranch."

"I was back in the room...the floor came out...and I couldn't scream for anyone." He whispered before I pulled him into my chest hearing him start crying into my shirt. I had grown close to the boy since Kayce had started taking him here to learn how to live on a ranch so he could enjoy not just being an Indian but also a cowboy. "We need to have a talk, son." Kayce heard his father who had come down the hallway leaving Beth, Rip and Monica on the front porch. The pair walked away from the bedroom to quietly talk. "I know I can't force you to do anything, son. But I think you need to reconsider who you married...I love my grandson. I just think Monica ain't the one to hold your heart." He told his youngest son before they heard foosteps coming there direction. "Hey Kayce, I finally got him down to sleep. And don't worry I let him sleep with my hat until tomorrow morning."

Kayce shook his head taken back by his father's words. He had always been close with me but we both had no idea that the other felt the same about one another. "Uh...thanks Y/n. I'll see you in the morning." John and him watched me head into my bedroom shutting the door. Monica came down the hallway watching her son peacefully sleeping now. She was passed put asleep and so exhausted since Tate had kept her up so that was why she didn't immediately jump up to his call. "I'll have to thank her tomorrow. I'll be in our room, Kayce." Once she was gone or so John had assumed he declared to his son simply. "Son, I think you should have married Y/n. Because I think she was made to be the one for you. Like me and your mother." Monica sucked in a sharp breath hearing everything he said whereas Kayce had no clue what to say to his father...maybe just maybe he was still secretly considering there was another girl out there that was meant to be his.

She learned she was pregnant which turns her paradise into a nightmare when she runs off. Okay thank you for sending one of the longest requests I have ever gotten. I decided to turn it into the multiple part series

Rubbing the sleep from my eyes I got dressed in cowgirl boots and a flannel walking out to my neighbors fence line once I drove there from my house. I had decided to move from the fast city life to be out here in the valley of Montana. Leaning up against the fence with my arms crossed over each other I just watched the sunrise in awe. "Excuse me ma'am. But this is private property. I'm gonna have to ask you to leave unless you're here to meet the boss." Glancing over my shoulder my hair blows in the wind seeing a man ride up on a brown horse. The man has dark brown hair and a good beard. Wearing a dark brown cowboy hat on his head. "I'm sorry sir. I just like watching the sunset out here. I don't touch anything I swear. It's just for the beautiful views." I paused walking forward sticking my hand to him once he dismounted the horse. "I'm Y/n. By the way. If you don't mind me asking who's the owner of this ranch?" He shakes my hand tipping his hat up a little. "I'm Rip Wheeler. John Dutton owns it." The two of us didn't realize at the time but our lives would forever change.

A few months later

Rolling over onto my side I immediately get up rushing to the bathroom throwing up in the toilet. Lifting my head up I slide down the wall rummaging around in the cabinet I found a pregnancy test I had bought a few weeks ago. Rip and I have been staying in the same cabin together after John allowed me to live on the ranch. Somehow we managed to fall in love even when he's a hard headed guy wanting to fight sometimes. I still fell in love with the soft side of him. Foosteps came inside where I heard Beth knocking on the bedroom door. "Y/n, are you okay?" She entered the room finding me on the floor dropping to her knees. Her and I had become close even though she had a crush on her father's most loyal ranch hand. Lifting my head up from my knees I just stared at the positive pregnancy test in my lap. My heart beats faster at all the ways this is bad. That he wouldn't want the baby and would throw me out instantly. He told me that he didn't like dogs, kids is probably on his list too.

"Beth, I'm so in trouble now. Rip's gonna hate me for making him be a father. I mean he - he hates dogs so I doubt he'll want - kids!" I started sobbing where she pulled me into a tight hug. Clutching her shirt I just cried for hours until she got a call from her office about something going wrong. She walked me out to the horse barn helping me on with a weak smile. "Go find him tell him what's going on." Nodding my head I just round off out into the fields finding him and the bunkhouse boys moving the cattle. Riding down the hill I call out his name but he spun around on his feet clearly furious with the boys work ethic at the moment. "What the hell do you want Y/n. I'm busy at the moment and don't have time for a morning ride!" Dismounting my horse I take the reins gently pulling it forward with me. Rip's never scared me but I am not usually around in the heated moments like this one. I get the end of the work day frustrating him. "Rip, I need to tell you - something please-" He cuts me off removing his hat in frustration throwing his hands at his side.

"Hang on Y/n." He held up his hand throwing his arms out seeing the boys still having trouble. "Come on boys. This isn't your first day. Stop acting like idiots. Ugh they are acting like kids. I'm glad I'll never have to deal with that!" He mumbled the last part under his breath where I croaked out. "So I'm on my own with this child then!" Rip whipped his head around to me anger in his brown eyes. "I can't stand kids!" I rest my hands on my stomach climbing on my horse not letting him say another word to me. Kicking the belly of my horse I don't really know where I was going but it was as far as I could from Rip. My horse sniffed around going to a stop until he suddenly made a noise throwing me off his back. I collapse to the ground feeling my elbow pop harshly and my gaze locked onto a snake that ran away from me. I try getting up but I get yanked down seeing a large stick laying on my left leg trapping me down in the middle of the fields. Pulling my phone out the screen is busted where I can't call anyone.

Blinking my eyes opened I closed them quickly being blinded by the bright lights. A beeping sound filled my ears until someone grabbed my hand making me open my eyes again seeing Rip. He's almost sobbing at the sight of me being awake. "God I thought you weren't going to ever wake up. Y/n I am so so sorry for what I said. I was just frustrated about the guys but I shouldn't have taken it out on you." He blurted out running his freehand through his hair voice croaking out because he's crying. Squeezing his hand holding mine I try to speak still being half asleep from the drugs they gave me. My other arm is in a sling and my leg is bandaged up and no longer bleeding. "Rip sweetheart. I know you didn't mean it - well actually I didn't. I was just worried you wouldn't want a baby." He shakes his head confusion written all over at my words.

"Why would you think I wouldn't want kids honey?" I tilt my head down blushing at how embarrassing this will be out loud to him instead of how it sounds like in my head. "You don't like dogs...so I just thought that you'd-" He cuts me off getting to his feet cutting me off with a kiss. Reaching up I run my fingers through his hair kissing him back but he quickly breaks it before it could go any further. "Baby of course I want kids. I just only want them with you. And honestly I have been thinking what our kids might look like someday or what they're names would be." I grinned happily letting some tears out. Resting my forehead against his he kissed my forehead until someone cleared their throat. Rip and I broke away seeing John Dutton standing in the doorway carrying a clipboard under his arm. He hands it to me where I saw he had signed the charges for a my medical bills.

John comes to sit at the bedside where Rip sits on the end of the bed still holding my hand in his smiling. John reached into his pocket pulling out a picture holding it in front of me. "Do you recognize this woman. Kayce said you kept mumbling about a blonde Indian woman in your sleep." The woman in the photo matches the one I saw when I thought I was going to die. Handing it back to him I nodded my head yes asking out. "Who is she, Mr. Dutton?" John removed his black cowboy sitting it on his lap smiling between Rip and I. "Her name was Elsa and she was my great aunt. She traveled here with her family back in 1883." That immediately pops an idea in my head for the perfect child name. Because if it wasn't for that girl I probably wouldn't have been found by the boys on the hill. "That's the perfect name, Rip. Let's name her Elsa!" I cheered where Rip wrapped an arm around my waist smiling in agreement. "That's perfect Y/n."

Rip realizes his mistake and seeks the help of John and Kayce. Meanwhile the reader is visited by someone from the Dutton's past. @yes-bitchxxxmarvel-stuff

Rip knew he messed up after he watched you ride away so upset. The bunkhouse boys finished their work allowing him the chance to find help. Getting back to the main house he dismounted in a huff running up the stairs finding John. "What's the problem Rip?" His boss asked being able to read his body language right away. Kayce exited the house having just put his son to bed for the night eyeing him. "What's going on?" Rip removed his hat slumping his shoulders in frustration starting to cry. "I messed up bad sir. Y/n's run off and she's not answering her phone...I told her I didn't want kids right after she was about to say she was pregnant. I need - I need your help finding her." The two Duttons didn't waste a second following the tracks until they ended because of the heavy rain that had started.

"We'll have to find another way to track her." Kayce explains tugging the reins of his horse hearing something coming their direction. Rip slowly moved his horse forward right as Y/n's horse ran up on them. He grabbed it to stop remembering the direction it came. John messed with his hat telling the pair. "You two follow the horse. I'll bring the helicopter from above when you find her." He ran off towards the house leaving the boys to follow the horses new tracks. Scanning the ground Rip grew nervous thinking that they might not find you. Until Kayce hollered out finding a trail of blood leading down the road meaning you or something else was bleeding. "Rip there's a trail. This way she's injured!" Rip kicks his horse racing down the trail praying you were alive.

Y/n's POV

Pushing the tree off my leg with all my strength I lay down on the ground struggling to catch my breath staring up at the sunset sky above me. Rolling on my stomach I push myself up with my other arm. Wincing sharply I feel blood coming from somewhere finally figuring out its my leg from under the reel limb. Tearing at the end of my shirt I typed up the hole hoping the blood would clot up on its own quickly. Limping with a stick I found I make the truck up a hill until I tripped over a rock not having anymore strength to get myself up on my feet again. Blinking my eyes I feel more tired than I was this morning which has to be because of the baby and the bleeding. I must be losing it because I see a figure coming closer that I could make out it as a girl with blonde hair.

The weirdest thing about her is that she's dressed like an Indian instead of jeans and a tea shirt. Meaning she must be from the past or I am dead and she is coming to tell me that. Yet she lowered herself to her knees pointing out in the distance that I think my horse went. Closing my eyes I almost let myself pass out until four sets of horse hooves and the humming of a helicopter filled my ears. Someone rushed cupping my face calling my name quickly. "Y/n. Y/n it's Rip. Open you're eyes please!" Rip’s voice shouted down to me when I squinted my eyes opened. Somebody else helps him lift me up where I recognized a blurry Kayce. The four of us managed to get inside the helicopter. "Y/n hang on for me. You're going to fine you hear me. I love you." Rip said as I struggle to keep my eyes opened laying across his lap getting flown to the hospital.
