Continuation of the Water Connections Program adventures in #Mbinudita, in the heart of East Sumba. The good friends of @fairfuturefoundation and @kawanbaikindonesia life on site is organise well, a rhythm that mixes work, meals, hours of rest which are essential for the health of all those who are there! Such a project here, in the heart of one of the most rural regions that exists, requires a gigantic organization, it is in fact quite unimaginable what we had to put in place in order to get there! It's a bit like the lunar epic by the pioneers of NASA in 69, all proportions kept of course! The work is hard, and so is the soil in which we are drilling. The encounter with an unidentified and feared obstacle - such a stone as hard as steel - considerably slowed down the drilling. But the drill head has passed through, and we can continue to fetch the water that everyone is waiting for here! The secret of a successful drilling is to be patient so as not to break the machine ... And even with all the precautions in the world, something could break: The worst that can happen, this is a breakage of the drill head! And it's something less serious that nevertheless happened: Something's broken. We must therefore return to Waingapu in order to weld, in order to repair. And that's a lot of time spent on the dirt roads, on the road, more than a day wasted to repair the machine! All the Kawan Baik on site will be able to testify to this. These few images show life on the spot, on this site that we have found ourselves, thanks to the science of dowsing rods! A place or two streams of water cross, and the quasi assurance of finding clean and consumable water, not dangerous for health, nearly 60m of depth. Back from two days of surgical treatments and medical/health care in some ultra remotes areas of the far south on East Suman. Working in very hard conditions, but what a great success even we ad no water, no electricity, it was terribly hot and mosquitoes everywhere after 5:30pm. ... All together, we did about 45 surgeries, and treated 200 patients (I've not the exact final number). Such a huge operation from all of us in deed, as to get there (as you can see in the previous post), it is such an adventure. The communities here have no (or far from there house) access to water, no electricity, they're -economically talking- very poor. Also, medical care are not accessible for all of them. This is why we are doing this as often as we can here and there with our friends from Sumba Volunteer. Incredible to see how people are affected in their health! So many fibrome, lipomas (that we removed surgically, for most of them, the others must go to do more investigation in Waingapu. People don't have enough to eat, to drink! It's a tragic fact. For many of them (even all), they suffer from malnutrition, which is present in 100% of the families. We care about this also and we bring lots of food,it's of vitamins, lots of minerals for all categories of people! From the new born, to the older one! It's makes us happy you know?
