no change in the movies pisses me off more than them having peeta just scream "ur all gonna die!!!1!1" at the camera with the hard cut to haymitch going "that was a warning (empath)" when in the book it was peeta struggling to even get the warning out and literally everyone in 13 expect haymitch and katniss going "wtf did he mean by that he can't be trusted" to which haymitch had to desperately plead with coin to listen to the warning, because that's obviously what is was, and none of them know peeta except for him and katniss
Like as unintentionally funny as the scene in the movie is it wasn't even a moment in the books that makes haymitch seem all that clever, like they try to spin in it the movie, it was just him knowing and trusting peeta. It was a testiment to his love for the kid, not anything else ughhfhfjkdkdkf
#they really unintentionally dumb haymitch and katniss down#with this scene with the notes in the games by not showing us his games#like haymitch and katniss are incredibly clever and a lot of that is shown in the books by how they effortlessly understand each other#obviously a big one is ''im with the mockingjay''#but then communicating through gifts in the games#haymitch knowing exactly how to get katniss to be appealing on a screen#How he survived his games with the forcefield and figuring out the trick of the arena...#the list is endless but they cut out so many of the moments from the movies and focus on the wrong ones#so movie haymitch just doesn't hold the same punch to me and book haymitch#also forever mad about him being blonde in the movies#haymitch abernathy#the hunger games#:v

@lazaruhs gets katniss everdeen
i've been avoiding him. everyone seems to know it. i give what serves as a training center a wide berth and i've been conspicously absent from the cafeteria if i walk in and see him there. it's like looking at a ghost, and i don't need another one of those. i killed him. when i close my eyes sometimes i still see the red gleam of once-flesh, the sound of the mutts and him and him and the mutts and the gargling and the growling and. but he's alive. and he's here. and now, when i've snuck down to look at the bow beetee is making for me, he's here too. gale's not, which i immediately resent. if gale were here i would talk to him and he would help make sure cato doesn't approach.
but it's just me, and the bow, and the range, and cato. one of the boys i killed. haymitch has told me that they didn't let him do much for a long while, said he was in a worse state than i was when i - - - well. than i am now, still, with my lack of schedule due to my mental state.
"cato." my voice sounds more confident than i feel as i focus on the target across the range and let an arrow fly. it sinks into the center.

isn't it time we fixed that? Hear me out, Ghost Lucy Gray @ Katniss @hvbris
GONE GIRL (2014) PROMPTS
@hvbris // & LUCY GRAY
Katniss continued hugging her knees, hiding in the warm, dark safety of the vents. Peeta was in danger because of her. Her home was gone. Everything was crumbling around her, yet President Snow was untouched. Pristine.
He never seemed to take a scratch.
And now she was hearing voices. Seeing things. Visions of a woman, familiar somehow, who brought a strange comfort with her. But that couldn't soothe the anxiety tensing muscles Katniss didn't even know she had.
"I can't fix this. It's all my fault. All of it."

it's the way katniss and peeta are such fundamentally different people when it comes to their driving emotions and the way they view the world, but no matter what, at the end of all things, they are the only two people in the entire god damn world who can understand the specific suffering that they both went through. for katniss there is one person who can share her trauma. for peeta there is one person who knows what it's like. and that's why they will always end up side by side at the end of everything.
#when prim died katniss was completely alone to witness it#no one else made it to the city circle#except peeta.#she didnt even know he was there but he was#i could write ESSAYS about this one line and what it means for everlark#AHHHHHHHHHH#v bookclub#mockingjay

"Never let your sense of morals prevent you from doing what's right." from Snow to Katniss heehoo
The girl's grey gaze cut like knives at the older man standing here in the greenhouse. The only place where the slightest possibility of safety could be assured was now lost because of this man. What on Earth could he have wanted with speaking with her now? Head held high despite everything and refusing to look weak in front of him, she stops just a few ways across from him at the chair he sat at, the cold beginnings of a winter dawn filtering in through the glass windows on her copper skin. Already she feels the cold creeping up her spine, snow falling outside all around them.
❝𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭?❞ Katniss asked sharply, voice cracking.

"i dunno. whenever i ask, these days. or when i start becoming hysterical again." the words slip from my lips, dry and quick, and i lift a shoulder in a shrug. "coin is worried i'll start pulling my hair out again if they keep me locked up down there." she's probably right. i always breathe a little easier after these. his question is met with a shake of my head as i find the game trail that leads down to the lake, the grass flattened by hooves and now my own feet. "no. i don't want to leave it."
"how often do they let you do this?" it's almost too easy for katniss to divert his attention, if only for a moment, to something more idyllic. "you ever try to find the edge of these woods? see how far it goes?" finnick's not unlike a child some of the days. his curiosity, the ease with which he can be distracted, it's all so quick and momentarily innocent.

OH MY GOD the horror peeta mustve felt when his name was called out for the reaping and none of his brothers volunteered for him when just mere moments before he watched as katniss volunteered for her sister. none of his brothers chose to keep him alive DESPITE THE FACT THAT 1.) peeta’s older brother - the second mellark son - was old enough to volunteer at the games and 2.) he was stronger than peeta. according to katniss, he won first place in a school wrestling match. peeta came in second. MEANING THIS MELLARK BROTHER HAD HIGHER CHANCES OF WINNING THAN PEETA since physical strength is v important but no. he chose to let his brother go
AND THEN we find out that haymitch chose to keep katniss alive in the 74th hunger games and not peeta. even tho haymitch liked peeta more than katniss. smth similar happens in catching fire where they rescue katniss - AND SEVERAL OTHER TRIBUTES - which results in peeta getting captured by the capitol.
time and time again people have chosen to let peeta go. either because hes not as capable as the others or hes just. Not a priority.
then comes the end of mockingjay where katniss chooses peeta over gale. its an obvious choice of course, considering that gale accidentally got prim killed. BUT that doesnt change the fact that someone finally chose peeta. not as some backup option but as a permanent choice. katniss chose peeta and was determined to NOT let him go.

Janeuary idea: day 24 is hunting. Now obviously regency!Katniss is not going out hunting, but her dad could have been into hunting, and maybe he let her tag along a couple times, or she was at least interested in it and learned some stuff through his stories? And maybe Peeta sucks at it and she actually knows more than him and can be amused by this? In Austen movies they often have the women watching the men shoot. I don't know, but there's gotta be something for hunting + regency!Everlark right?
Hahaha
This had me picturing Peeta, in the early stages of wooing Katniss, being invited on a hunt including her father and her cousin Gale (the Everdeen estate is entailed and he’s next in line, Mr Everdeen has taken him under his wing and there’s speculation that he’s meant to marry Katniss)
Unfortunately Peeta is a terrible shot (he’s probably near sighted) put into even greater contrast by the Everdeens and Hawthornes.
Peeta is inwardly despairing at his poor performance, though outwardly he’s his easygoing self-deprecating self. At one point he says something to the effect of ‘I’d rather feed the ducks than shoot them.’
Prim teases him ‘will your household live on bread/cake alone?’ And then looks meaningfully at Katniss who blushes.
He takes it in stride and Katniss makes a comment about enjoying bread and a how a chicken would do just as well as a duck as Gale boasts his latest shot.
While the rest of the party is engaged elsewhere, Katniss drops her voice and suggests him aim just ahead of his target, to the left of the V (I’d pull the hovercraft passage from Mockingjay)
He manages a hit on his next shot and although it’s nothing compared to the rest of the party’s haul, he still feels as if he’s won the day when he sees Katniss’s smile.
Or something… I’ll have to do some light research to see how inaccurate this is hahaha
#feel free to set me straight#should it be geese instead of duck?#janeuary#thank you for the ask!!#firawren#ask#Regencylark#everlark fanfiction concept

ogfoofodoxx thinking about how the most defining character trait of haymitch is how protective he is. not in the sense it's the most obvious, but how all of his actions are fueled by this desire to protect. how hard he works at keeping katniss alive in the first games, him fighting to keep them from augmenting katniss's body, him yelling at plutarch to keep finnick from having to share his trauma, him being so involved in peeta's recovery and being the one to bring katniss home. him holding mayslee's hand as she died, fighting for plutarch to stay and rescue peeta, being the one to find katniss and finnick when johanna had an episode, begging coin to believe peeta's warning. it being heavily implied or either outright stated that he was one of the people who fought to protect effie.
makes me physically ill because no one does that for him. everyone who would of, died.
#DIES EXPLODES COMBUSTS#thg#haymitch abernathy#:v#haymitch acting like he doesn't care about anyone when he actually cares about everyone#he's acting like he's winning the idgaf war but love has disarmed him completely.#Tbc katniss and peeta would but they are literally incapable of being that for him. bc they are infant#also thinking about how we get this sense that while he has some modicum of power with the revolution his sway only goes so far#which is to say not far at all#the times we actually see what the negotiating process is like for him he has to beg coin to listen to him#and he says Plutarch didn't listen to him between cf and mockingjay when he tried to get them to stay for peeta#I just get this sense that most of the time he's in the room but isn't really allowed to make decisions#and constantly has to fight to be heard#I mean again I will always circle back to this they literally locked him in a room to detox#and the descriptions we get in cf is his withdrawal symptoms are incredibly severe#so clearly they weren't dependent on his imput#idk idk I just get this sense they valued his input up until the point he reminded them all he still views people as people.#him coaching katniss was to say in mockingjay during her speech in two also makes me chew drywall#how much of that is what he thought she needed to say to stay alive and how much is what he had always wanted to say#also thinking about how he wasn't lying when he told Plutarch he couldn't go back to twelve sober.#bc he gets katniss home and then immediately gets blackout drunk#I am of the opinion that he genuinely can't get sober while living in 12#I like to think he lets himself leave eventually never to the capitol of course but in my hc he goes to 11#just bc of his fondness for chaff and seeder but that's just a self indulgent headcanon#ALSO ALSO.#thinking about how he's fighting a revolution that he doesn't even believe will bring chance#well. he thinks it'll change things but that change will be temporary and fighting will break out again#my perfect pessimist idiot. in my heart of hearts he gets a therapist moves and actually recovers

@hvbris // & Cassia
"I don't." Katniss replied sharply, looking at the young frightened girl with the blonde hair who could just as easily have been her sister.
Prim, with her little duck tail at the back of her shirt. Prim, who'd cried when Katniss had killed a rabbit, who'd rocked that psycho cat of hers like he was a baby.
Prim, who was dead now. Who wouldn't have lasted a day in the arena when her name was called at the reaping. She'd grown so much stronger than that day, tending to the wounded with their mother's guidance, smart enough to be considered for training as a doctor. Facing blood and pain and misery with a cool head.
"I don't want you dead." She said, her voice a little softer. Hesitantly she reached out, placed a hand on the girl's shoulder. The burn scars on Katniss' hands were still healing. "I want....I want to show them we can't keep doing this. Killing eachother. I'm tired. I'm done with it. And I'm keeping you alive."
𝐊𝐀𝐓𝐍𝐈𝐒𝐒 & 𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐀
Katniss let the girl rage, though she wanted to snap back, she wanted to tell Cassia that everything that had happened was her beloved grandfathers fault. The man she clearly still held on a pedestal was responsible for all of this. All the death. All the pain.
But Coin was to blame too. The minute that Snow had finally weakened, she was ready to step right into his place under the guise of revolution.
Katniss felt her hands tense, realising that they were balled into fists. Her lip was caught between her teeth, biting down. Biting back words. Biting back the emotions that seemed to ebb and flow like a violent tide, leaving her empty one moment and overwhelmed the next.
But Cassia was right about one thing. Katniss was a mentor, trapped in the fate that she’d so narrowly escaped by being sent back into the arena. The thought of coaching another kid to kill had always made her skin crawl, but here she was anyway. After all the blood, sweat and tears. All the loss. She was here.
She thought about Haymitch. Thought about having to drag herself out of bed every year, having to do this again, over and over, knowing what lay ahead. She understood why he disappeared into a haze.
What would he say right now?
“You’re right. Maybe you should take your own advice.”
Her voice was stronger than she expected it to be, trying to channel some of that scathing tone that her own mentor used so often. It made it easier, trying to imitate somebody else.
“The only thing that’ll make a difference is staying alive.”
At Katniss’ words, Cassia’s anger deflated like a balloon. She had not expected the Girl on Fire to actually try and mentor her. To tell her how to survive. Why wasn’t she just enjoying the view? Finally, the roles were reversed! The President’s favorite granddaughter, sent into the arena to die.
It was the only reason the government was even hosting these “Freedom Games” in the first place. The people of Panem were hungry for blood.
And Katniss Everdeen should have been hungrier than ever.
In fact, Cassia would have preferred fighting. Screaming. She would have liked for Katniss to curse her. It was better than having to face the reality of the situation.
Her body still tight like a bowstring, Cassia blinked in silence for a long moment. Finally, she fell like a ragdoll on the couch. She was so tired. In just a couple of weeks, her world had crumbled all around her. And now her only ally was the very same person who had ruined her life.
If there was poetry to be found in this entire ordeal, it eluded her.
“They don’t want me to stay alive, she finally exhaled, shaking as she revealed her deepest, darkest fear to her worst enemy, “they will kill me in there. They’ll make an example out of me. Blow me up on a mine. Have a mutt rip me to pieces.”
Words were flowing out of her, and she realized just how terrified she’d been. All alone in that room, having to deal with the bleak future that lay ahead. “I’m not stupid. They all want me dead. My own sister wants me dead. And how could I even survive? I can’t fight. I can’t do anything.”

Save Seven but kill Saeran and having to live with Seven witnessing what you've done, or save Saeran but kill Seven which is what the latter would want but he's the love of your life? (I'm not really sorry I'm doing this to you and Lola💞)
Xela you CANNOT do this to me😭
You've given me a lose lose situation here. Let's see...
If I pick option one, no matter what reason I had for killing Saeran (for my sake, let's say self defense or something Mint Eye related), I lose Saeyoung. No matter how much he loved me before, I will always be the person who killed his brother. There is no coming back from that, I've basically put him in his nightmare scenario.
(Not to bring my other favourite franchise into this, but it's very Katniss and Gale at the end of Mockingjay)
We've seen what he was like during V's ending. Drinking to cope, mask all the way up, attempted murder as revenge. Hanging on for any chance that Saeran is still alive. For better or for worse, Saeyoung has tied his worth to Saeran and his safety, and having 'failed' at his only task, he will become a shell of himself. Imagine him in that situation, now also with the knowledge that the person he loves did that. There's no way he doesn't hold it against me, even subconsciously.
The worst case scenario is...not good. We'd never see each other again and I'd lose him even after saving him (that is if he doesn't try to avenge Saeran first). At best, our relationship is very strained. There is this unsaid baggage between us and our relationship is never the same again. We wouldn't last.
Otherwise, I kill Saeyoung to save Saeran. I can all but hear him yelling at me to choose this one (self sacrificing bastard).
It's the short way around to getting mostly the same effect as option one. I lose the love of my life and am left with nothing but heartbreak and trauma.
The only upside is that he dies on his own terms, and with the knowledge that the two people he loves the most are still alive. This is literally his life's purpose, if you ask him. (though I have a lot to say about that)
If Saeran ever forgives me, we might try and recover from that trauma together and then try to live life? But it's not going to be fun. If he doesn't, I probably would have to leave and try to move on from this event alone.
Hm... (I'm desperately looking for an option three right about now)
From the outside, it's easier to say that I'd choose option two because it's the one that he wants. But realistically, could I look the love of my life in the eye and kill him? Probably not.
So I guess that's my answer. I kill Saeran and have to live with Saeyoung's hurt and the what ifs of it for the rest of my life. We do NOT live happily ever after.
(currently wishing I had two faves you could have pitted against each other instead of this 💔)
#I hope you're happy <3#jk thank you for the ask Xela#love me some angsty scenarios#even when they're literally IMPOSSIBLE#watch out because you're next 👀#ask#jumin-ssi

@4thdistrict said ; to katniss : "you don't have to forgive me, for what happened in the arena, but you do have to know that it's not what was supposed to happen. it's important that you know that. your forgiveness it's... well it's not what you're known for so," it's supposed to be a joke, but there's hardly life to him as he speak, "i won't hold my breath."
i'm tired. "i'm not ... mad at you." it's almost true. finnick is hard to stay mad at. it's easier with the others. coin and plutarch and haymitch. they're the planners, aren't they? finnick and beetee and johanna were just pieces in the game. moved into the correct position. my hands shake a little around the cup i'm holding as i lift it to my lips. besides, it's hard to be mad at someone who looks so damn sad. i wonder if i look the same way. i hate to look in a mirror these days.
it should be peeta here. if there was any fairness in this world, it would be peeta here. i'm the one who should be in a cell in the capitol somewhere, having who knows what done to me because i'm the symbol, i'm the mockingjay, i'm the ... whatever they want me to be. peeta is better than i am and everyone knows it. it's just a fact. the sky is blue and peeta is the one who should have made it out of the arena. "so. forgiven."

Fish Monet @imprvdente
"we are cursed, you and i." // Fish @ Katniss, when they're talking in 13 (after Peeta was on TV)? // JOHN WICK FRANCHISE (2014-2023) PROMPTS
Katniss was rooted the spot. She felt so powerless, her limbs so heavy, she simply couldn't move. Even if she wanted to scream until there was no sound left, to fall to her knees, she couldn't. Silent tears were rolling down her cheeks.
She hadn't realised that Fish was standing right there, but even her presence couldn't bring Katniss to wipe her tears away. She didn't have the strength. Peeta. All her strength seemed to have gone with him, to the capitol, to the very place she was meant to be fighting against.
But Snow had an important card to play, and each time he did so, Peeta looked worse. She could see the tension in his jaw, the quiet pain in his eyes. He looked tired, haunted. Just another puppet like Ceasar Flickerman. Like her, on the opposing side. And she couldn't save him.
"What?" Katniss asked, finally glancing at Fish. There was a look in her eyes, something softer than Katniss was used to, emotion desperately being contained. An expression that Katniss knew very well by now- she'd seen it enough times in the mirror, after all.
But why would she be upset about Peeta? Why would she even care?
Suddenly, Katniss thought about the other woman's games. How inevitable it had been. Or so she'd thought. What would have happened if the gamemakers had taken pity on her and that boy from district 3? The same way they'd decided to let her and Peeta live, with the threat of those berries in their hands?
Katniss hadn't considered the love story to be real when she'd watched that year. A lot of people didn't. But now...she wasn't so sure.
"This isn't a curse. It's Snow. It's all Snow."

i look at annie. at her smile. i can't make myself smile, too, but it's ... nice. that she's happy - - - she deserves to be happy. her and finnick, of all people. "she knows i," my voice is raw and weak, still, and i pause to clear it, "i do better when i'm let out here." one of the doctors must've strong-armed her into letting me out here, said something about my deteriorating health and insisted. maybe mom or prim helped with the idea of letting the others come along. we're nowhere near the craters. did they clean out the roses? the fact we were steered as far from them as possible makes me think they probably haven't yet.
my fingers itch with the want to prod at the ring of yellowing bruises around my neck, but i occupy them with pulling out a blade of grass and tying it in a careful knot. will annie notice it, finnick's coping mechanism in my hands? "i don't know how they all live down there all the time."
@fals3nd (katniss) liked for a starter (annie) !!
__________≋ SHE TILTS HER HEAD BACK, UNRULY CURLS GLIDING ACROSS HER SHOULDERS ONTO HER BACK AT THE MOVEMENT. with eyes closed, freckles shining under the light, she lets the warmth of the sun spread through her skin, a small smile tugging at the corner of her lips at both the action && at finnick's laughter from down the way. it reminds her of simpler times back in four, when finnick returned from the capitol && they could steal moments away on the beach together. ❛ i've missed fresh air. i've missed the sun !! ❜ she peaks under her lashes at her companion. ❛ security in thirteen has been so tight since the bombing. how'd you get coin to agree to this ?? ❜ let alone to taking the other victors outside.
