I don't know how to write the beginning but also without a beginning, I don't know how to write the plot points I already have blocked out so I never start writing, what would you recommend?
Can't Write, Unsure of Story's Beginning
Well, there are two ways we can not know how to write our story's beginning, so I want to cover both.
The first way is when we literally have no idea what needs to happen at the beginning. In that case, I would question where your other plot points are coming from, because your plot points should be stemming from the story's conflict, and the circumstances that ignite the conflict are the beginning of the story. In other words, if your story doesn't have beginning plot points, it doesn't have later ones, either. It just has a bunch of random things you decided to have happen. In that case, spend some time on my Plot & Story Structure master list to learn about conflict, plot-driven vs character-driven stories, story structure, etc.
The second way is when we know what needs to happen... we know our conflict/s, we know our inciting incident, we know what has to lead up to the inciting incident, we just can't figure the best way to showcase those things. I call this "finding a way into your story," because knowing what has to happen isn't the same as knowing the exact situation within which said thing will happen. For example, The Hunger Games inciting incident is when Katniss volunteers to replace her sister at the Reaping, and what has to lead up to that is some world building, setting up Katniss's internal conflict (being responsible for her mom and sister but wishing she could escape her dystopian world) and some laying out of the stakes (if something happens to her, her mom and sister won't survive.) There are a million ways this story could have actually started... it could have started with her already in the woods hunting with Gale. It could have started with her in town witnessing some peace keepers attacking a citizen. It could have started with her watching them set up for the Reaping. Suzanne Collins chose to have the reader wake up with Katniss and start a normal day with her, to illustrate the stakes (her mom and sister, and needing to take care of them) firsthand, to lay out the basic world building through Katinss's eyes as she walks through her district, and to explore her internal conflict while enjoying a little freedom while hunting with Gale. My posts Figuring Out Where to Start a Story and Deciding How to Open Your Story have some tips to help you out. :)
Happy writing!

>Hunger games books and movies made it painfully obvious that most capitol civilians didn’t truly understand the horrors their government was doing in the districts and the hunger games.
>the “good rebels” purposely bombed capitol CHILDREN from infancy to teenage years. Also sneaked in Katniss little sister prim to kill her off.
I think a lot of leftists don’t understand that hungers games point out how both sides in a conflict will exploit people (especially youths like katinss) and do horrific things to get their way.
The amount of people who interact with fiction they don't understand and then act like they're experts on it is staggering.
And look, there's always room for interpretation. I know that I've read or watched things and got a very strong message that the creator later insists they never meant to promote. But there's a difference between interpreting a scene differently than someone else, which is what most literary discussion is about and can be both fun and lead to a deeper understanding of the work, and outright rejecting canon, substituting your own headcanons or fanon, and then insisting your butchering of the actual work is what really happened. Which is what way too many people do now when they discuss fiction. To the point where they end up getting really mad that canon characters do canon things in the middle of a canon work that don't line up with their headcanons about the character.

for @rainbowmuses continued from here !
"i should be alone ." they said this to peeta like it was her fault , all of the pain and loss and torture they'd endured ... none of it was katinss' fault , yet it all rested on her conscious and felt like it was . the hand at her elbow felt so comforting and she felt like she didn't deserve it , but katniss was too weak to push peeta away any longer . they wanted peeta near , wanted to embrace him . silently , she looked up and caught his gaze .

And the thing is, Gale had a very small part in Prim's death. Those who killed her were Coin and Plutarch. Coin didn't want a free Panem, Coin wanted Panem and Plutrach wanted power.
Sacrificing Prim made sense. The war was over, and we already had the warning from Boggs about Coin. Sacrificing Katniss was a move that would've brought no real gain to Coin, but bringing the Mokingjay fully on her side by killing her sister?
Prim's death really was a brilliant move. The people loved her. She was the reason why the rebellion started. Katniss volunteered to keep her safe, alive. Well, she and later, Peeta.
And Coin had already failed at killing Peeta. He represented hope and optimism to Katniss. And having her kill that? She would lose her power over the people, and it would further traumatize her- taking her out of the political game.
With Prim dead, Katniss would have one goal and one goal in mind: revenge. And by the time it would all be over, Coin would've become the new Snow. And how could Katniss turn against the woman who helped her avenge her sister?
Prim was a great 'martyr': young, clever, and beloved by both Panem and District 13. A much better instrument to use in bringing the two sides together
Gale might've given the idea, but those who took it to barbaric levels were those who took advantage of a traumatised young man who had been a defacto father to his siblings from the time he was 14 and had to keep alive his family by risking his own life and grew up knowing that he would have to spend the rest of his life working in the same place and under the same conditions as those who killed his father. And they are the same people who get none of the blame.
I'm not saying that Katniss should or can forgive Gale, no matter how big his part had been in Prim's death because he still played a part. But Gale suggested a way to kill more enemies of war, and it sure as hell wasn't him who had the idea to drop bombs on the kids. He saw his whole district being bombed into ashes by the Capitol, and he wanted to give the same thing back.
By killing Prim, Coin also removed Gale as one of the few people Katniss could relay on. Peeta was in no way able to support her. Her mother would be mourning Prim. Really, the only person left in her corner would've been Haymitch- a known and lifeling drunk who had himself just gone through a war. Killing Prim took away Katinss's soul and almost everyone in her life away.
Snow and Coind were to sides of the same, well coin: stopping at nothing to keep and maintain power. And using the lives of children for this purpose: Katniss, Prim, Peeta, and yes, Gale.
And yet, Gale is the one that gets most of the blame for Prim's death.
Hot take but… “Gale was a teen soldier who got brainwashed, by a manipulative dictator, into the idea that sacrificing a small number of troops was worth it to definitively stop the government that had spent years ruining the lives of him and his people” and “Gale’s gross disregard for human life directly led to the death of Prim and thousands of other civilians including children, and Katniss is justified in her anger and has no obligation to ever forgive him” are two statements that can and should coexist together.
#the hunger games#I feel so often Gale just gets painted as this one dimensional villain that was just hiding his true evil all along#which is dumb#katniss and gale#katniss everdeen#gale hawthorne#the mockingjay#prim hunger games#primrose everdeen#alma coin#thg#the hunger games gale

although she wanted to be angry with him , katinss couldn't help the smile that grew on their face despite themself . after a brief hesitation for the sake of her own pride , katniss lunged forward and wrapped her arms around haymitch in a tight embrace .
"i'm so glad you're here ," they whispered , feeling oddly safe for the first time they could remember .
@nightwhispcrs || Haymitch & Katniss cont. from x
.。.:*☆ "Well, mean, it was for sure nothing I have been able to decide freely." Yet, it was better than living in Panem, so no, Haymitch would not complain. Even more since the man was actually fairly sober for once. Not having Snow watching his back was doing wonders to his health, as it seemed.
"So, does your old mentor get a hug now? Or would you prefer to just slap me instead? If so, I most likely deserved it. Yet, I would prefer the first option, personally."

tag game!—
tagged by @dear-yandere & @storiesthatneedtobewritten!! thank you so much for the tags, I’m honored to be included ₍՞◌′ᵕ‵ू◌₎♡
rules!: list 1 to 3 things you notice about your own writing / style, and tag your friends to find out theirs!
my biggest influences for writing are The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. my choppy style is heavily due to the former. I love how quick-paced Collins writes Katinss’s train of thought. it very much focuses on the... here and now, if that makes sense? she writes a lot about what Katinss is experiencing in the present and how she processes it (which she does through either really short sentences or run-ons; it’s really cool!). she also ends her chapters on some snazzy one-liner, usually with something that was established earlier in that same chapter. likewise, I love that she writes in a present tense. you don’t see that a lot in lit. as for Pride and Prejudice... hhh do I even need to elaborate. it influences literally everything I write. I love writing about how characters progress in a romantic relationship. that’s why I have so many posts about how characters realized they were in love, how they show love, etc etc. Austen showed me that romance can be more than just two characters liking each other. it’s the little things they do for each other, the tiny details in how their personality changes... god I love it.
I use... a lot of repetition lmao..... hell, I even did it above when describing why I love writing romance. I blame it on all the years I spent roleplaying on Tumblr in high school. it’s a habit I’m trying to break out of atm. that said, lmk if you catch me overusing it!
lately I’ve been trying to keep the reader as description-neutral as I can. I’ve been doing more research on it; I only recently learned that I should avoid having the reader blush. it’s super important that readers can see themselves in my work, esp as a woc myself. we’ve all spent too many years reading fics where the reader was described as having a skinny, pale body... well I say no more!!!
tagging (if u want to!!): @qyokuken @lucixu @knifefather @optimal-idiot @jojosbizarreblog and anyone else who wants to join in! tag me so I can see your response <33
#tag game#thanks again for the tag!#this was a super fun game#and I'm having a blast reading through everyone's responses!!

The thing is, this love did not start because of a simple attraction. It wasn't the 'You're hot/You look good, I like you' kind. It was that 'There's something different about her' that has made him have a crush on her since they were little. And it evolved into the kind of love that knows how to cherish and heal. Unknowingly, it was all Katniss ever needed after all the burden and damage that the odds have brought upon her. Her father's death and the Hunger Games destroyed her night and day, but Peeta became her safe haven, her healing space, her motivation to find peace no matter how hard- she was her one and only boy with the bread. 🍞🥖🌼🥺🤍
