Opposites attract | Katie McCabe x Arsenal!Reader
Where Katie loses her temper during a match and you're on the receiving end of her punch
Woso masterlist | Words: 1.5k
-----
Arsenal was known for its family dynamic, but even within familyâs there were links that didnât work as well as others. Within Arsenal that was you and Katie, you both worked great with the team, just not always with each other.
The two of you were polar opposites. Katie was outspoken, and fierce. She was often described as an aggressive player, and had a tendency to let her emotions get the best of her on the pitch. You, on the other hand, were more reserved, practical, and strategic. You kept your cool even in the tensest moments.Â
Your interactions with each other mostly consisted of professional exchanges, never really meeting outside of football. You of course had many team outings outside of football with the team, but either only one of you attended or youâd stay away from each other at it. The dynamic worked well enough for the team, so everyone just let it be what it was.Â
After Katie got taken down for the fourth time against Tottenham, it was to no surprise to you that she got up and shoved the player that fouled her. You roll your eyes as you run over to aid Kim, who was trying to get in between Katie and Ashleigh Neville. The two of them are now yelling at each other and pointing angry fingers. Poor Kim you thought, as you arrived.Â
Katie lifts her arm in a punching motion, and youâre quick to grab ahold of her arm and pull it back, âKatie, please calm down.â Katie in all her anger pulls her arm out of your hold only for her elbow to smash into your face. You stumble backwards and instantly reach for your face.
Somehow Katie immediately calms down when she realises that she hurt you. She left Asleigh Neville alone without a second thought and knelt to your side. âShit, I'm sorry y/n. Are you alright?â You look up at her, âJust piss off, Katie.â She raises her hands and steps aside. The medical team comes to check you out since you were still clutching your face.
âIs it broken?â You ask them as you remove your hand to reveal a bloody nose. The medics get to work on checking it out. Katie steps forward to get to your side, but Steph holds her back âShe told you to go away, mate, give her some space.â They worriedly look at your bloody face. âSince when do you care about y/n?â Beth asks when she joins the pair.Â
With a furrowed brow Katie turns to Beth, âWhat are you talking about? I've always cared.â Beth snickers, âWell, maybe you should act on that, cause most people think that the two of you hate each other.â
âIt's not broken,â You release a sigh of relief. âBut your cheek has already started bruising a little, so I'm afraid you will get a black eye.â You look over to Katie and roll your eyes. All of this over a stupid tackle. You let the medical team help you up, and keep a cloth to your nose as they walk you off the field.Â
Since there was already a bit of swelling in your cheek, they thought it was best to get you subbed off, as you hit the 60 minute mark anyways. Youâre still annoyed though, cause you definitely could've played the full 90 minutes if Katie had just stayed calm. You watched the rest of the match on the sidelines with an ice pack held on your face.Â
Bethâs words lingered on Katieâs mind. Did people really think you hated each other? Did you think she hated you? She was determined to take Bethâs advice and show that she did actually care about you.
You were confused when you heard a knock on your door the next morning, and your confusion grew even more when you realised who was at your door. âKatie, what are you doing here?âÂ
Katieâs focus was on your face, and the black eye that had fully made its way onto your face. âIf youâre just going to keep staring, Iâm closing the door.â Your words brought Katie back to reality. âSorry, I didnât mean to stare. I am actually here to apologise for hurting you.â She holds up the small bouquet of flowers for you to take. âI know itâs not much, but I wanted to check in to see how you were doing, and tell you how terribly sorry I am for letting things get out of hand, and hurting you in the process.âÂ
Youâre a little stunned by Katieâs apologies, never having expected her to do so, and definitely not in a home visit scenario. âThank you, Katie. I appreciate it, really.â You take the flowers from her. Before you can say anything else, Katie reaches for something else. âI also got you some breakfast. Beth said you loved this place, but I didnât know what you liked from their menu, so I got a bunch of stuff. I didnât think just flowers would be enough.âÂ
The gigantic bag of food comes into your line of vision and your eyes widen. âThat is food for a whole village.â You step to the side and watch Katie expectantly, âAre you not coming in to help me eat this massive bag of food?âÂ
Katie grins, maybe you didnât hate her after all. âIâd love to.â She steps inside and follows you to the dinning table where she starts unpacking the various containers. You watch your table get fuller and fuller, âWhile I appreciate it, you know you didnât have to do all of this right?â Katie looks up at you with sincere eyes, âI wanted to. I know we tend to have our differences, but I wanted to make sure that you didnât think I hated you or something.âÂ
You shake your head instantly, âI never thought you did. Weâre just polar opposites in our approaches to things, and sometimes those differences donât click.â Katie sighs in relief before taking a seat. âThatâs good to hear, and yeah we can have quite different approaches, but that doesnât mean we canât try to find a way to work better together.â In agreement you nod your head. âIâd like that.â
As you both start eating, the conversation flows more easily than you expected. You and Katie were usually not in a setting like this, but you had expected awkwardness or tension. Neither one was there, you felt comfortable sharing breakfast with the defender.Â
Halfway through breakfast you catch Katie staring at your bruise again. âYou know staring at it isnât going to make it heal quicker, right?â Her face instantly turns serious. âI am really sorry about what happened yesterday. I lost my temper and you paid the price. I promise that it wonât happen again.â You smile appreciatively, âApology accepted. I know you never meant to hurt me, but it did sting a little. Literally.â You eye Katie on the last word of the sentence and the both of you burst out laughing.Â
Once youâve calmed down, Katie turns to you. âMaybe you can teach me your ways of always staying calm out on the pitch?â You nod, âI can definitely do that, but only if you teach me how to stand up for myself more on the pitch. I think we could learn from each other and have more of a middle ground, what do you think?â Katie smiles and nobs, âI like that, itâs a deal.â
While your on pitch behaviours arenât changed instantly, the team noticed an immediate difference in your and Katieâs relationship off the pitch. During training you actually worked together, and outside of football they saw the two of you in the same places for the first time in a long time.Â
Since that apology breakfast, Katie had come over more often. At first it was just to âtake care of youâ since she was the reason you were injured, though you kept insisting that you were totally fine. Once the bruise was fully healed, Katie couldnât use the same excuse anymore, but you were also enjoying her presence so you didnât need a reason.
It surprised you at first, how much you had in common with the defender, but once you set aside your differences, you and Katie grew closer together quickly.Â
Then one day after practice Katie approached you. âI know we usually do breakfast, but there is this new restaurant that opened up near my place that I think you would really like. Could I take you there some time, maybe?â Your smile grows, âAre you asking me out on a date?â
Katie nervously looks up at you, âYes, but it could be as just friends if youâd be more into that.â Your smile grows even bigger, âI never imagined Iâd see the day when Katie McCabe would be nervous.â You chuckle lightly as a blush creeps up onto her cheeks. âI would love to go on a date with you.â You place a kiss on her cheek, and then turn and walk away. âPick me up tonight at 6pm?â Katie smiles, âIâll be there!â

we are broken | a.p.
alexia putellas x mccabe!reader | katie mccabe x mccabe!reader (platonic) | 3.4k | when your relationship with alexia falls apart, your sister is there to pick you back up
ËË°â˘*â first fic for my we were happy universe, set pre enchanted to meet you universe. this is starting at the end of alexia and r's relationship, and might have come to be written from my own personal experience and the last 6 months of a 6 year relationship i was previously in :) anyway! hope you enjoy it! mostly angst, hurt/comfort :) also really happy with this one! italics = flashback/not the present time!
âAle, where are you even going right now?â You watched, clinging onto the sheets you had wrapped around your bare body while you watched your girlfriend scramble around picking up her clothes and getting dressed again. It was the middle of the night and it wasnât the first time Alexia had done this.Â
You used to go to and from training together, but now youâd arrive home before Alexia even bothered to let you know if she was coming home that night. Sheâd been spending more time away from you and any time she did spend with you it seemed like a chore for her. If she came home, youâd at least eat together, but there always had to be a show playing and Alexia never cared to listen to what you had to say any more.
Alexia used to, or you thought she used to love listening to you talk about your day. Even if you were both at training youâd often find yourself in different groups, though Alexia would always find you throughout the day, stealing little kisses and hugs from you. But now youâd be lucky if she responded with more than one word whenever you did try to speak.Â
Some nights were different, some nights you saw the Alexia that you knew loved you, but those moments had started to become short lived. It was like youâd been stuck in this cycle for months now, no way of knowing how to break it, or if it could be broken at this point.
Tonight was just another night that left you confused and wanting answers. Sheâd been so sweet with you, cooking dinner for the two of you and listening to the stories of whatever you and Mapi had gotten up to instead of actually training, the two of you together were always trouble.
Alexia had kissed you in a way that made your knees buckle and you instantly melted against her. It had been a while since sheâd kissed you like that and now you were paying the price of instantly letting her have you just to break all over again. Which she did, as soon as it was over, as soon as she was done with you the facade dropped. She wiped her mouth, placing a small kiss against your thigh before leaving you lying there to catch yourself.
The Alexia you fell in love with, the Alexia for that first year and a half of your relationship wouldâve kissed her way up your body. Whispering sweet nothings, while you caught your breath and came down from your high. She used to look at you with so much softness and love, you wondered where that all went and when did it all change. Why wouldnât she stay and cuddle with you like she used to?Â
You had started feeling like you were just a toy for her to use whenever she wanted and just throw away once she was done. It wasnât a great feeling and every time you were left laying in the bed you were supposed to share with Alexia, feeling used and thinking about the times with Alexia before everything started to change. Sequentially, you started to hate yourself for always folding whenever Alexia gave you a crumb of attention that mimicked the first year of your relationship, when you knew youâd end up hurt all over again.
There were times you had tried to talk to Alexia about the change that youâd notice but every time she would dismiss it and say how stressed sheâd been lately. You obviously sympathised with your girlfriend and tried to do anything you could to make her life easier. You could understand that her role within the club wasnât always easy, so you did what you could to support Alexia.Â
Because thatâs what you do for your girlfriend and you love Alexia more than you could ever begin to explain. Six months ago youâd give her the space she said she needed, you were understanding. But then six months went by and everything with Alexia had progressively gotten worse.Â
âAlexia, amor, are you listening to me?â You sat up, just wanting Alexia to acknowledge you for once instead of ignoring you and then pretending everything was fine the next day.
âJe-Y/n,â Alexia sighed, closing her eyes and pinching the bridge of her nose, hoping you wouldnât notice her almost slip up. What she didnât realise is that you started to hang onto her every word and every ounce of attention, as pathetic as you felt for doing that. So you did notice the slip up.Â
Your eyes narrowed and you sat up more, making sure that the sheet that was wrapped around you didnât fall. You already felt vulnerable enough in front of Alexia right now, you didnât want to add to that, âIs there another person?â Your voice was small, the question making you feel sick to your stomach. The weight you felt in your chest increased the longer Alexia went with answering your question.
It was a question that had plagued the back of your mind but thatâs where you kept that thought. You thought you knew Alexia and you really thought that was something she would never do to you. As much as you didnât want to accept and admit it, it made the most sense with how sheâd started treating you and acting around you. All those times when youâd see that sweet, loving and caring side to Alexia again, was filled with the thoughts that she was only being that way to you out of guilt.
âAmor, just donât wait up,â Alexia couldnât bring herself to look at you or to answer your question, though for you her no answer was an answer in itself, telling you what you subconsciously already knew.
âNo, Alexia, Iâm sick of feeling like a chore you donât want to do. Iâm tired of being a second choice. If Iâd known this is how youâd end up treating me, I wouldâve never said yes when you asked me to be your girlfriend. You donât treat someone you love this way, Alexia, unless,â Your voice trailed off, mind spiralling out of control and letting your emotions take over, âAle,â Tears pricked at your eyes but you were determined to not let them fall. You didnât want to let them fall, to be vulnerable in front of Alexia. But you wanted her to see how much sheâs hurt you, even if you donât think sheâd feel bad for what sheâs done.
As soon as you heard the door to your apartment shut, the tears started streaming down your face. You were heartbroken in a country that youâd only been living in for three years, around people you werenât 100% comfortable around while in this state. You were yearning for the safety of your sister's arms, she always knew how to help you and make you feel better.Â
Your older sister, despite being quite close in age, had always been quite protective over you. Sheâd been there for you throughout your previous heartbreaks and rejections, promising to always keep you safe and reassuring you that you were always loved. As long as you had your older sister, nothing could hurt you that much.
While laying in your bed, staring up at the ceiling, you knew that you couldnât stay here right now. You couldnât be alone, you didnât want to feel alone or lonely and you just wanted a break from your mind that continued to spiral and plague your mind with unpleasant thoughts about you and Alexia, but mainly about yourself.
You didnât give anyone room to argue or negotiate with you when you said you needed to take a week away for personal reasons. At this point you didnât care if you were benched the rest of the season or if something else happened. You were focused on doing what was best for yourself. Right now you couldnât stay in Barcelona, you couldnât go back to the club and have to face Alexia right now.Â
Before you knew it, before anyone else knew it, you were on your way back to London. Navigating your way through the familiar city and finding yourself at the door of the apartment that felt like home, âKatie whatâs wrong with me?â The only words you managed to get out before you wrapped your arms around your sister and let all your emotions out.
Katie didnât have the time to process that you were here, at her apartment, crying in her arms. The last she knew you were supposed to be in Barcelona. From what youâd told her, you were thriving. That wasnât a complete lie, you were thriving in football at Barcelona. But youâd neglected to let yourself lean on anyone during the last six months. Not wanting to accept that your relationship was failing and wanting to live in the delusion that you could fix the drift that was occurring between you and Alexia.
Which led you to not telling anyone you were close with, sure some of the girls at Barcelona had noticed the growing rift between you and Alexia, but you always dismissed anyoneâs worries or concerns. Not talking about it was the only thing you had to lean on. In the end it didnât work out for you, making you go all the way to London to try to accept the one thing youâd been dreading coming true the last few months.
Katie managed to move the both of you from the front door to the couch, sitting down with you almost in her lap. Sheâd never seen you look so small, the vacant look in your eyes while the tears fell silently down your face. Until you were able to calm yourself down all Katie could do was hold you and rub your back gently, whispering that sheâs here and youâre okay.
But you werenât okay, at this moment you didnât know if you would ever be okay again. The irrational part of your brain taking over, any sense of rationality you wouldâve had was long taken over by your emotions. Eventually youâre breathing evened out and the tears slowed, not stopping completely but less than before.Â
âI donât wanna talk about it,â Your voice was small and raspy from all the crying youâd done. You thought you mightâve been overreacting the whole situation, but the more you thought about the other night and the last six months in general, you realised that you werenât overreacting. Even if neither you or Alexia had said the words out loud, you knew what you both shared was over and it had been for a while now.
âWhenever youâre ready, I got you,â A promise that Katie would never break, especially when it came to you. You were both the closest in age in your family, you both loved football, you both just had this bond that nothing could ever compare to it.Â
âAnd just kick the ball, like this,â You watched your older sister intently while she taught you everything she was learning. Every week youâd cheer on your sister at her games, always in awe of how good you thought she was. Especially when sheâd taken out and was better than that one boy that had been calling you names at school.Â
You begged your mam to buy you your own football and you instantly found Katie when youâd gotten home that day showing her what you bought, âI wanna be just like you,âÂ
âI think, maybe you might be better than me one day,â From then on, anyone would find you and Katie in the yard, kicking around the ball, playing little scrimmages just the two of you. Even if Katie would always win when it was the two of you messing around, it made you work harder until the day you managed to beat your older sister.Â
âDo you think one day weâd play for Ireland together? Do you think Iâm good enough to?â You and Katie were both a bit older now. Katie had played a few times in the youth teams for Ireland and the moment you saw your sister wearing the Ireland kit, you knew thatâs what you wanted. You wanted to do that and you wanted it to be alongside your sister.Â
âOne day the whole world will know who the McCabe sisters are,â You both laughed while laying outside looking up at the sky. A dream you both shared, playing for Ireland together, one that eventually came true. From being kids messing around, always with a ball at your feet, to living out your dreams together.Â
Eventually you told Katie everything that had happened between you and Alexia, recalling every last thing from the last six months. Katie hated how you were still downplaying how Alexia had treated you and constantly making excuses and defending her. But she could see how much you were hurting, sheâd give you a reality check another day but for now sheâd hold back.
Despite everything, you still love Alexia. You love her to the point you feel guilty saying anything bad about her, because there were lots of good moments, lots of times where she made you feel loved. You didnât want that to be forgotten, you didnât want to forget that. You didnât want the last six months to completely take away from the year and a half before, when everything with Alexia was perfect.
You were surprised at your sister's reaction, honestly thinking youâd have to hold her back from getting on the next flight to Barcelona and tracking Alexia down to give her a piece of her mind. Instead Katie wrapped her arms around you and made you promise to not shut her or anyone out again.Â
Those words played through your mind when it was night and you were trying to sleep, but every time you closed your eyes you were plagued with memories of you and Alexia. The memories were almost like nightmares now, the what couldâve been but now was never going to be a reality.Â
âKatie,â You whispered, slowly opening the door to her bedroom.
âWhatâs up lil mac?â Katie whispered, with a small smile at the nickname sheâd given you, but the smile fell when she took in the state of you.Â
âI-I donât wanna be alone,â Your voice is small, eyes glazed over, tears threatening to fall and a permanent frown etched onto your face. Nervously playing with your fingers, almost ready to apologise for waking your older sister when you knew she had an important match the next day.
âCome here,â Katie moved over and lifted the sheets so you could slide in next to her. The moment your head fell against her chest, you couldnât stop the tears from falling. No words were needed between you and Katie, itâs like she just understood you. Wiping your tears away and letting you sleep in her bed with her. She didnât have to know youâd just had your heart broken for the first time. She didnât need to know that you felt like you couldnât tell anyone because it was the first girl youâd secretly dated. Katie never asked questions, just held you and let you sleep in her bed whenever you needed her.
âI canât stop thinking about her. Every time I close my eyes. Every time I lay in bed and sheâs not there next to me,â You paused, taking a deep breath, âThereâs this weird, uncomfortable, feeling in my stomach and I donât know what to do. I feel so alone, I just want Ale but I shouldnât want her but I do,âÂ
You hadnât slept much the last few nights while staying with Katie. It was noticeable with the darkening circles under your eyes. Even if towards the end Alexia had almost completely stopped sleeping in the same bed as you, youâd still spent over a year sharing a bed with someone and to know that youâd never share the same one with her had you craving for her touch.Â
All you wanted was for Alexia to hold you again, to tell you everything was going to be okay, that the two of you were okay. You knew that wasnât going to happen, but you still wished it would. You wished you would wake up from this nightmare, go back to Barcelona and Alexia would be for you waiting at your apartment. Youâd fall into her arms, the ones that always made you feel safe and wanted until they didnât anymore. Feelings were cruel and you wished for nothing more than to stop feeling, but you couldnât turn that part of you off, no matter how hard you tried.Â
âItâs okay to still want her, even if you feel it isnât the right thing. You spent a long time together and itâs completely understandable. I know Iâm just your sister and Iâm not Alexia but you can sleep here so maybe it might help you not feel so alone,â Katie spoke softly, if you were in a better mood the softness of your sisters voice would be amusing, not realising Katie could make her voice be that soft or quiet, âIt wonât be easy, but youâre one of the strongest people I know. Plus you got me and we make a good team,â
Katie was right about that. The rest of your week with Katie really helped. Though one week was definitely not enough and you were dreading going back to your apartment in Barcelona. The uneasy feelings of not knowing what you were about to be facing once you returned to the city you have called home for the last three years now. Would Alexia be there? Part of you hoped that she would be, having realised that you were all she needed and ready to apologise for how sheâs treated you. The sad part is if she did that, you would take her back in a heartbeat, despite your head telling you no you would listen to what your heart wanted.
But when you arrived back at your apartment you didnât have to worry about that. The only thing you had to worry about was the way your chest felt unbearably heavy and like a weight had dropped to the bottom of your stomach. Katie had travelled with you to make sure you were okay being back in Barcelona, she didnât miss the way your body tensed and you froze when you rounded the corner and your front door came into view.
The closer you got you could see the contents of the box that carelessly sat in front of your door. Everything that you had at Alexiaâs, including the gifts you had made and bought for her during your relationship. The realisation that your relationship really was over came crashing down over you. Too much for you to handle so Katie picked up the box, opened your apartment door and took care of everything you needed her to do.
You sat down on the couch in the living room while Katie went around getting rid of everything she knew that would remind you of Alexia. A lot of the things were quite obvious, like pictures of you and Alexia all over your apartment, items from the holidays youâd told Katie all about and hoodies and barca training gear that definitely wasnât yours. Katie didnât fully get rid of it all, instead putting it into a box and hiding it away knowing that you would want to decide the fate of the items when you could think more rationally.
âAre you sure youâre gonna be okay?â Katie asked for the millionth time before she had to leave you to go back to London. You rolled your eyes playfully, even though you were dreading going back to training and seeing Alexia for the first time since that night she left, you were feeling better than you were a week ago. Youâd smiled the first time again and were joking around with your older sister. Signs that made Katie feel relief, but still worried about leaving you.
âIâll do my best, you know that,â You were genuine. You knew, in the back of your mind, that you werenât going to crumble and fall apart. There were going to be tough moments, but you had your sister and you had your friends within Barcelona, âI promise to call you if I need to, I wonât push you away,â You were going to be okay and you genuinely believed that.

big mistakes || katie mccabe x reader ||
You try to deal with the changes that come from Katie no longer dating your mom.
"Scooter, Katie's here!" Your head shot up at your Mam's words. It felt like forever since you had seen Katie last. You remembered hearing Mam and Katie fight with each other, and then you were moving in Aunt Shebhan all of the sudden. It was a pretty big change that you didn't like, but you were trying to be good about it because you weren't a little baby anymore.
"Katie! Katie! I missed you," you told her as you ran at the woman's legs. Your Mam walked away from the two of you, leaving you and Katie all alone in the living room.
"I missed you too Scoots," Katie said as she ruffled your hair a little. You hugged her tightly, not letting go even as Katie stood up with you in her arms. "How have you been? I heard that you had your first day of school."
"Yeah, I wanted you there, but Shebhan said I couldn't tell Mammy that. I don't like that we don't live with you anymore," you said sadly. Katie could feel a lump start to form in her throat as she looked at you. In the few short weeks since her and Ruesha had called it quits, you looked like a shell of your former self. The burst of excitement from seeing Katie had settled down, and Katie could see how hard their separation was on you. "Why didn't you want Mammy and I to live with you?"
"Ruesha and I broke it. Don't think for a second that I don't want you in my life, okay? I love you so much. I made a mistake, and while I'm very sorry for it, it's not anything that your Mam can forgive me for," Katie explained.
"You were kissing Caitlin. I heard Mam tell Shebhan one night. That's not very nice, you aren't supposed to kiss other birds," you told her. Katie swallowed nervously. She couldn't be mad about you overhearing that, even if she had specifically asked Ruesha not to tell you about the cheating. "You shouldn't say sorry to me. You should say sorry to Mammy."
"I have, but forgiving me was up to her, and she couldn't. I'm not mad about that though, and I don't want you to be either. This isn't a perfect situation, and I've really messed up with my mistakes, but your Mam is being very nice about letting me come see you. Keep an eye on her, you know that she can be trouble," Katie said as she stood up.
"Are you going already?" you asked, tears welling up in your eyes. Katie bowed her head as she nodded. She glanced behind you at Ruesha, who for the first time since they had fought, looked sadly at Katie. Ruesha had been so angry, and beneath the sadness that your mother was feeling for you, Katie knew that Ruesha was still angry. If anything, Ruesha was even angrier now than she had been at first. Katie didn't blame her, she was mad at herself for how things had turned out.
"This isn't a forever goodbye Scoots, I promise. I'll try to see you again real soon. I love you kid," Katie said as she hugged you tight. You clung to her like she was your mother, and in your mind, she essentially was. All you had ever really known was life with both Katie and Ruesha, and now you were adjusting to life without Katie in it.
"Bye Katie, I love you," you told her. Katie placed a kiss to the top of your head before she let herself out. It killed her to walk away from you while you were crying, but it wasn't her place to comfort you like that. You had never been Katie's daughter legally, even if Ruesha had been willing to take that next step. Katie had never felt like she had fucked anything up so badly before in her entire life.
âŚ
"Alright, you need to be on your best behavior. No funny business missy." You nodded at your Mammy's words. Ruesha knew that you'd be on your best behavior, this was all that you had wanted for weeks. It had taken a lot of communication between mutual friends, but Ruesha had worked out an arrangement to let you stay the week at Katie's.
"Katie's here!" you cheered as you saw Katie's car pull into Shebhan's driveway. "Bye Mammy, I love you."
"Wait a minute. Now, I'm gonna call before bedtime tonight. If you get sad or miss me, tell Katie and she'll give me a call too. You haven't been away from me for this long before, so it's okay if you get a bit sad," Ruesha told you. You nodded, unable to stop wiggling in her arms. "Alright, now I want you to have a good time. I love you Scooter."
"Mammy, I know. Let me go, Katie's waiting," you whined. Ruesha let go of you, and you sprinted out the door to Katie's car. You were so excited that you didn't notice Caitlin in the passenger's seat until you were buckled up and Katie was starting to leave. "Hi Katie!"
"Hi Scoots. You remember Caitlin, right?" Katie asked you. Your eyes narrowed in a glare that was all Ruesha as you looked over at Caitlin. Katie tried to stay calm, but she admittedly got a bit nervous the longer that you stared at Caitlin in silence.
The hope that you didn't quite understand the situation that had broken up Katie and Ruesha went out the window very quickly. You turned away from Caitlin, who had once been one of your favorite Arsenal girls. Katie glanced over at her girlfriend, who looked pretty guilty as she turned and faced away from you. This was the first time that you had seen Caitlin since the breakup, and you very obviously wanted nothing to do with her anymore.
"Katie, does Caitlin live with you now?" you asked calmly. Katie's grip on the steering wheel tightened a bit, but she knew that she couldn't let you sense that she was afraid. Katie loved you, but there were times whenever you were like the devil incarnate.
"No, but would you be okay if Caitlin stayed over for a couple of days?" Katie asked. You knew all about questions like this, ones that adults asked that didn't mean anything. Caitlin was staying over, and you knew that your answer didn't matter. Mammy and Katie had asked you tons of questions like this before, and you could usually tell what kind of answer they wanted to hear. Mammy had told you to be on your best behavior, so you knew that you had to let Caitlin stay too.
"That's fine," you mumbled. Katie and Caitlin both pretended not to notice the way you seemed to visibly deflate on the ride back. Not even a stop at McDonald's was quite enough to get you excited again. Katie carried you inside, a slight frown on her face as you seemed entirely unenthusiastic now. "Do I still have my room Katie?"
"Of course you do. There's even a surprise in there for you," Katie told you. You slipped out of her arms, grabbed Coopurr, and took him into your room. There were a few new toys in there, but you walked right past them to lay down in your bed with the cat.
"I can leave. It really doesn't seem like she wants me around," Caitlin said. Katie sighed, unsure of what to do. If you went back to Ruesha's telling her that you had a bad time, Katie was afraid that you wouldn't come back. "This is all pretty fresh for her, and I guess it was stupid of me to think she wouldn't find out what happened."
"No, we just need to talk about it. Eventually Ruesha is gonna bring someone around, and however badly I'm taking this, Ruesha will be worse. Scooter is her whole world, even whenever we were together, Scooter being upset with her destroyed Ruesha," Katie sighed. Caitlin sat down on the couch, pulling Katie to sit with her. The two of them tried to work something out, and Katie decided that you just had to talk it out as quickly as possible.
"Katie, will you ring Mammy for me?" you asked as you walked into the living room. You were still holding the cat, but now you also had one of your old baby blankets wrapped up in your arms as well. Katie knew that you rarely went back to your baby blankets like that, which was why they had stayed at the apartment.
"Of course I will, but do you mind if the three of us have a talk? I understand if you don't want to, but it is pretty important to me (Y/n)." Both you and Caitlin shared looks of surprise at Katie's use of your actual name. It was pretty rare unless you were in serious trouble that anybody called you something aside from Scooter, the nickname you had been given as a baby.
"I guess that's what's fair and all," you said as you sat down on the floor in front of them. "What are we talking about?"
"Caitlin is my girlfriend, just like your Mammy used to be my girlfriend. Caitlin and I did some bad things which hurt a lot of people, but I love Caitlin. I want to spend time with Caitlin like I used to your Mammy, but I also want to spend time with you because I love you. It's not going to be easy, and it is perfectly fine if you're not okay with Caitlin being around, but please let me know. I don't want you to be upset or uncomfortable," Katie told you.
She hadn't really known what to expect with you. Katie was prepared for some sort of angry outburst, but that never came. Instead, you sat there petting Coopurr. Katie watched you carefully, but she hadn't noticed the little tremble of your bottom lip. Without warning, you burst into tears, rambling incoherently about being confused.
"Come here," Katie whispered as she pulled you into her arms. She was kneeling on the ground with you, silently crying. You seemed to tire yourself out after a little while, and once you were calm again, you laid on the couch in between Caitlin and Katie.
"You didn't do any talking," you said very matter-of-factly to Caitlin. It was the first time you had really acknowledged her aside from glaring at her in the car. Katie's head snapped over to look at Caitlin, who had been sitting there silently for everything.
"I don't know what to say. I'm sorry for hurting you Scooter. That seems like a pretty good place to start, and um, I hope that you can forgive me. It doesn't have to be now, but one day, I hope that we can be friends again," Caitlin said. You thought about it for a moment before you sat up and held your hand out towards her. Caitlin eyed it suspiciously before she placed her hand around yours in a handshake.
"You should say sorry to my Mammy too, but maybe not right now. She wants to knock your head clean off," you said. Katie stifled a laugh, knowing that you had definitely overhead that with different wording. "She'll take yours too cheeky."
"Oi, watch yourself little missus," Katie warned. You could tell that it was a joke though. Things weren't fixed by any means, but Katie felt a lot better knowing that you weren't going nuclear about Caitlin staying for the night. She wasn't sure how bad of a meltdown she could handle with you, never really having had to take of that on her own before.

I Should Hate You
Katie McCabe x Chelsea!Reader
Summary: Katie is tasked with marking you.
Word Count: 1.1k words
You knew that playing Arsenal at the Emirates would be a struggle. The roaring celebratory crowds anytime an Arsenal player started a run. The equally enthusiastic boos every time you and your teammates so much as touched the ball. Nothing out of the ordinary. What you werenât expecting, though, was your current position.Â
âSorry, darlinâ,â says Arsenalâs Irish superstar as she untangles her body from yours. She stands and reaches both of her hands out for you, a small smile on her face. You mightâve appreciated the gesture if she hadnât been on the offensive end of all the fouls youâve encountered during the last 60 minutes. But she has been, so you donât. Instead, you brush her off and pull yourself up before returning to your original position.Â
âThatâs, like, the 10th time sheâs fouled me. I swear she has a personal vendetta against me or something,â you gesture around aimlessly as you take your place next to your best friend.Â
âWhat has she done now?â Lauren James asks with a quiet laugh as she kneels down to retie her boots.Â
âAside from embarrassing me repeatedly for the past hour, she just tripped me. On purpose, probably.â You reach a hand down and help LJ up once she finishes tying her laces.
LJ lets out a laugh at your reply. âRight, well, thatâs called âmarking.â Perhaps youâve heard of it?â LJ squeezes your shoulder with a smirk before the referee blows her whistle, signaling for play to start back up. You share a laugh before attempting to clear your mind and get back into the game. Your attempt starts fruitfully, and you forget all thoughts of your complications with the Irish woman.Â
You begin running up the wing as your teammates initiate an attack. âHeads up!â Erin yells as she sends the ball soaring toward you from the 18-yard box. Before you can even think about your next move, a sharp pain shoots through your ankle and shoulder, and you find yourself on the ground once again. Your teammates shout, and the crowd erupts in deafening boos as the referee shows your assailant a yellow and then points to the spot.Â
âOh, bullshit! I hardly touched her!â exclaims a voice youâve grown all too accustomed to hearing today.Â
âWant to explain why Iâm on the ground then?â Nathalie helps you up as you glare at Katie. âIâm okay,â you assure Nathalie quickly, brushing off her questioning of your fitness and turning back toward the Ireland captain.Â
âI donât know, but I think VARâs about to find out,â Katie states with a smirk (that you wish you could smack off her face) as she raises her eyebrows and gestures behind you before crossing her arms. You turn to see the referee walking to the penalty check screen. An intense suspense fills the stadium as everyone awaits the refereeâs final decision.Â
âHas to go our way. She completely clipped you. Studs up and everything,â speaks your captain, Millie Bright. She joins the swarm of fellow Chelsea players that has now formed around you, the Arsenal players having disbursed.Â
After a thorough review of the penalty decision, the referee swiftly returns to the pitch. With a firm expression, she announces her reversal of the call, awarding the decision in favor of Arsenal.Â
âCome on! That is shit!â Guro shouts as the referee cancels the previously awarded penalty. The thunderous cheers of the Arsenal fans drown out her shouts. The dramatics of the Norwegian winger do nothing to ease your spirits like they usually would. The game ends shortly after, ending in a 3-1 Arsenal win.Â
You deflate, refraining from diplomatically shaking hands with the Arsenal players after the game. Youâre standing off to the side watching a bantering Sam Kerr and Caitlin Foord when you sense a presence walking up behind you, followed by the feeling of two hands on your waist. âThink ya better fire your diving instructor,â the voice whispers in your ear before the accompanying hands pull you toward their chest.Â
You pull away from the person completely and turn around to face the Irish woman who has recently been the absolute vain of your existence. âI know that you know that call was fucked,â you say sternly.
Katie mock gasps, raises her eyebrows, and drops her jaw. âYou want us to what?â she jokes and feigns disbelief.
âStop,â you reply with a roll of your eyes. She steps closer to you at this reply.
She laughs, âAh, thatâs not a word I hear too often. The eye roll is a different story.â Youâre unsure if the innuendos were intentional. The way sheâs not even trying to hide biting her lip answers this question for you, though. She smirks again at your lack of response, and you only kind of want to smack it off her face this time. You feel your face heat up as she keeps her eyes trained on yours. You nervously look away and busy yourself watching Niamhâs post-match interview, hoping that Katie will just walk away.
You keep your eyes on Niamh as you feel Katie step close to you again, despite something urging you to turn your head toward the other girl. Katie keeps her hands to herself as she leans close to whisper in your ear this time; her lips brush against your ear as she murmurs, âThe more you try to ignore me, the more I want to be right here.â Your breath catches as her words linger in your ear.Â
Katie pulls away after a tension-filled minute, her expression combining smug delight and amusement. She clearly enjoys the reaction she just pulled out of you. She steals a quick glance at your lips before looking back up at your eyes and holding out one of her hands. Your mind is still whirling from the earlier feeling of having her body so close to yours. You just stare at her outstretched hand.Â
âSee something you like?â she asks as she wiggles her fingers and turns her hand around and back. Your eyes jump back up to hers. âYeah. Your yellow card earlier,â you choke out.
âKatie!â someone yells from behind you before Katie can reply. Probably one of her teammates. You canât be bothered to check. Katie nods at the person before turning back to you. Her hand still outstretched, she reaches for one of yours and shakes it with no help from you.
âUntil next time, love, yeah?â With an ever-present smirk, she finally removes her hand from yours and starts to walk away. âUnless ya donât feel like waiting that long. Up to you,â she winks and joins her teammate (whose identity youâre still unsure of).
Youâre pretty sure she just put the ball in your court.
a/n: first fic đ hopefully it's not terrible. I have mixed feelings about my first post being for an arsenal player but!!! advice is appreciated. thank you alright bye

questions
pairing: katie mccabe x reader
notes: this is just a silly little blurb
âAlright, I feel like starting an argument, so Iâm gonna ask Katie some questionsâ, you smiled at your phone set up in front of the both of you, not failing to miss your girlfriend furrowing her eyebrows at you. You had told her you wanted to film a TikTok, and she had laughed at you when you had searched around your nightstand to pull out the abnormally large notebook she had bought on your request a few weeks ago, but you hadnât told her what the video was about, wanting to catch her reaction on the camera.
âWhat?â, she asked, a shocked grin on her lips as her Irish twang filled your ears, looking at you with her mouth agape.
âShushâ, you hummed, opening the notebook and shielding it from her view. The mini mic was in your other hand as you skimmed through the first page.
âOkay, question number oneâ, you cleared your throat theatrically, looking at your girlfriend seriously.Â
âIf I ever died, would you fall in love with someone else?â, you asked, knowing that this was likely the trickiest question and would, in another context, be incredibly weighted.
Katie furrowed her eyebrows, thinking for a moment, before clearing her own throat. She leaned over towards your mini mic.
âNo. Iâd be sad for the rest of me lifeâ, she explained, looking between the camera and you expectantly, a victorious grin on her face.
âWrong. Would you not die with me?â, you asked offendedly, suppressing your own chuckle as Katieâs smile dropped within seconds. She opened her mouth in shock, looking away from the camera to turn to you instead.
âNo no no, we talked-â, you leaned over towards the camera to cut the video off.Â
âKatie, stop arguing. You were wrongâ, you laughed. âThat wasnât the answer I wrote down!â
She turned to look at your book expectantly, but you pushed it away from her just in time.
âNo, no cheating. You were wrong!â
âBabe, thatâs not fair.â
You knew Katie, and you knew that she hated losing, but it simply made the situation all too funnier.Â
âAlright, can we go on now?â
She mumbled something that was incoherent to you in an answer, making you suppress another snicker, but you tried to keep your composure in hopes not to aggravate her any further. This video was going to send her spiraling anyways, as Katie was competitive as ever, in everything she did. You, however, were having a lot of fun.
âOkayâ, you huffed as you pressed the record button again.Â
âQuestion number two. If I gave you a shopping list, and sent you to the shops, what would you buy?â, you asked into the mini mic, looking at your girlfriend expectantly. Katie, once again, thought for a short second before opening her mouth.
âEverything on the shopping list, and chocolateâ, she smiled into the camera, lifting her arm victoriously.
âSee, Iâm getting the hang of this! Youâre not fooling me there, aye!â
âWhat kind of chocolate?â, you interrupted her little monologue, a cheeky smile on your face. At that, Katie was stunned.
She cleared her throat, and you could tell there was hesitance as she leaned towards your microphone again.
âSalted caramel.â
âWell, thatâs correct.â
Katieâs grin was there within seconds again as she turned towards you.
âYeah, yeah. I know your chocolates.â
âYeah, yeahâ, you mimicked her accent, earning a slap to your shoulder.Â
âStop making fun of me? I got yous question right, didnât I?â
âQuestion number threeâ, you breathed, looking at your book for a second.
âWhat did you do wrong on the twenty-third of November, 2023?â, you asked theatrically seriously, watching on your phone as her smile dropped. You could practically see her mind spinning as she thought of an answer. She should get this one.Â
âBought you that bookâ, she huffed, and it was clear to you then that she had no idea.
âWrong. You cheated on me, in my dreamâ, you mumbled into the mic, looking at her with a smug expression.
âYou didnât tell me!â
âYes I did, and you never said you were sorry!â, you exclaimed back, watching as her eyebrows furrowed.
âI didnât?â
You still remembered that night, very clearly. The relationship between you and Katie had just been made public, and despite the fact that you had intended to hide it for a little longer, the two of you had decided to just go with it and embrace it from now on, leading you to now- filming Tik Toks together during Arsenalâs training camp, in her hotel bed, with her arm around your knee. The nightmare had felt so real then, as you slept beside her, that it had woken you up in cold sweat, your tears, as silent as you could keep them, waking Katie up despite your efforts.
âLove? Whatâs wrong?â, she had mumbled in her sleep, sitting up as best as she could as she felt your shaking frame beside her.
âI had a dreamâ, you mumbled into your hands, as she closed her arms around you, pulling you in.
âYou cheated on meâ, you added, voice barely above a whisper.
âBabe, Iâd never do that, you know that. Right?â, she asked, and despite the fact that your relationship was still fresh then, you did know. You just had a feeling. So, you nodded into the crook of her neck, allowing her to hold you for the rest of the night, as closely as she could.
âWell, Iâm sorryâ, she mumbled now, her arm around your leg straightening out so that she could stroke your knee, an amused expression on her face.
âItâs okayâ, you replied, smiling at her for a second before diving back into your book.
âOkay, fourth question. In our relationship, do I have the looks or the humor?â, you asked, waiting for your girlfriendâs answer.
âThe looks?â, she asked, rubbing her face in frustration.
âWrong. The correct answer is, I have bothâ, you grimaced into the camera before you were ready to continue.
âYou didnât tell me that was an option!â, Katie exclaimed offendedly at your reply.
âWell, you shouldâve thought about it anyways.âÂ
At that, Katie huffed, shaking her head humoredly as she watched you glance through your book again.
âFifth question. If you were in a room, with a hundred other women, would you be able to tell me apart by my laugh?â, you asked, trying to mask the grin on your face. There was no way she would get this question right. The correct answer would absolutely have her yelling at you in frustration, and you had to really concentrate in order to not crack up at the thought.Â
You stretched out your mini mic towards her, eager to know her answer.
âYes, you laugh like an elephant!â
âIâm sorry?!â, you whipped your head around, staring at your girlfriend with your mouth agape. Katie snickered.
âThatâs wrong. And offensive. In so many waysâ, you huffed.Â
Katie didnât mind the fact that you were seriously offended, seemingly proud of herself for her answer.
âWhatâs the correct answer then?â, she asked as she mimicked your British accent, wiggling her brows at you.
âThe correct answer is, you wouldnât be in a room with a hundred womenâ, you spoke into your mic, not caring about Katie laughing disbelievingly at your answer.
âThis is ridiculousâ, she chuckled, shaking her head at your antics. She should have been used to this by now, though.
âAlright guys. That was the video. Iâm off to start an argument nowâ, you smiled at the camera as Katie waved, before pushing her off the bed with all your strength.

Good 4 U
Hello there!
I hope youâre all great. This story is just out of my imagination, but enjoy anyway, I guess ⼠Also Caitlin and Lia are always a thing in this word.
TW: Reader! Wälti, no other I think.
PART 2 | PART 3
______________________________________________________________
Unlike your older sister Lia, you are not wise and quiet. You have trouble concentrating and you aren't necessarily interested in the idea of landing somewhere. You and Lia donât have the same character, but that never stopped you from loving each other a lot. Youâd do anything for your older sister whoâs only 10 months older than you. And you know she would do anything in return for you. You and her were almost like twins and even if you wasn't planned, you parents always loved you the way they love Lia.
You travel all the time, leaving one place when you're getting tired to visit another corner of the world. You are sociable and have no trouble making contacts with anyone, to find a job or to make new friends. You are lucky to be able to remember the different languages in the countries you visit. You speak German from birth, you are bilingual in English and you talk other new languages like spanish or italian.
For now, you are in London with your sister for a week. The last time you stayed in London with Lia was last year when her life was a little more complicated than now. This time, you decided to come to see her just because you missed her and wanted to be with her for her birthday. You contacted Leah to help you surprise her, and you congratulate yourself for filming Lia's reaction when you walked into her living room following Leah.
When Lia told you about a karaoke night with her friends, most of them from Arsenal, you didn't hesitate a single second before accepting. You already know Caitlin obviously and Leah, who you met when she came in Switzerland last year. You met some of the girls last time you came in London, but you don't know all of them. This is a good occasion to met them.
Despite the time set at 9pm, not everyone arrived on time but this didn't prevent the people already present from starting to have fun. Youâve already shared a song with Steph and another with Leah. And youâre choosing the song youâre going to sing with Lia when Katie finally makes her appearance in the establishment.
When the music started, Katie was greeting everyone and sat at one of the tables surrounded by a bench, reserved for the night.
She's sitting with Caitlin, Leah, Kyra and Alessia when her gaze mechanically refers to you when you start singing. And her gesture stops immediately when she looks at you, her arm halfway between her mouth and the table as she was getting ready to drink.
"You alright mate?" laughs Kyra
"Whoâs the girl with Wally?" Katie asks, blinking.
"Her little sister. Why?" asks Leah, bowing her eyebrow.
But Katie doesnât answer, completely hypnotized by you. She just canât take her eyes off you, your face, your body and anything else that can be part of you.
"It's Wallyâs sister?" ended up repeating Katie before glancing at Caitlin. "Damn, youâre shagging the wrong Wälti, Caitlin."
"Youâre disgusting" Caitlin says, rolling her eyes.
Leah laughs softly next to Katie and the Irish girl seems to reminding something. She turns herself a little to look at Leah before talking.
"Wait, this is the sister you met last year?"
"Yes?" answer a frowning Leah.
"And you didn't try anything with her?"
Katieâs tone let perfectly passes the disbelief she feels at this idea. But Leah rolls her eyes again.
"Sheâs Liaâs little sister. She would have killed me. And sheâll kill you too if you try anything with her"
Katie responds with a throat sound before finally bringing her drink to her lips. And from then on, she wonât leave you until your song is finished. Katie recognized Olivia Rodrigoâs song "Good 4 u" and she briefly wonders if it means anything to you and Lia.
When the song ends, Lia approaches the table where Katie is installed while you take the opportunity to go to the toilet. If Caitlin greets your sister with a big smile, making her sit on her lap, Leah canât help but drop the information to Lia.
"Your sister caught Katieâs eyes" Leah announces with a big smile.
This causes a growl from Katie who hoped to try a discreet approach with you and a frown from Lia, who quickly takes off from Caitlin to lean towards Katie.
"Stay away from her Katie, Iâm not kidding"
Katie raises both hands as a sign of abandonment, not without rolling her eyes.
"Looks like Iâm the devil in person" Katie growls before finishing her drink.
"She was hurt once and since then has been traveling around the world. I want to see her again before Christmas 2025."
"Okay, okay, I get it" sighs gently, Katie. "Iâll get myself a drink."
After asking if anyone wanted something, Katie gets up to order herself a drink, deciding to go to the other side to have less to wait. And Lia will not be able to tell her anything, because it's finally you who approaches her first. You come to order yourself a drink too and you have no trouble recognizing the teammate of your big sister, that you watch play as soon as you can.
"You're Katie, right? I'm Y/N, Lia's sister" you smile before reaching out to greet her.
"Yes, that's me. Nice to meet ya" Katie grins, taking your hand in hers, squeezing it maybe a little to long.
Your eyes cross and you find yourself becoming aware of the beauty of the young woman who stands before you. You first notice her blue eyes and then her smile that you quickly find mesmerizing.
You are interrupted in your moment by the server who finally takes your orders. And, while Katie passes her command, you discreetly let your gaze slide on her forms. How did you not realize before how breathtaking she was?
"Lia told me you travel a lot" Katie says, turning to you to resume your conversation.
"Oh, yes⌠I just came back from New Zealand" you explain with a smile, before starting on an explanation of your last trip.
The minutes pass quickly as you chat with her and then you find yourself interested in her and her life. Thereâs something about Katie that hypnotizes you and you could honestly spend hours listening to her and laughing at what sheâs telling you. You like her humor, the sound of her voice and itâs a little destabilizing for you to find yourself so impacted by someone so quickly.
"Do you want to get some fresh air?" Katie says after realizing youâve been talking for a while.
You accept with pleasure and you follow her on the outdoor terrace of the establishment, Katie seems to know this place very well. Which is probably not surprising since Lia told you they come often.
"Here" simply makes Katie by dropping her jacket on your bare arms after seeing you shiver.
"Thank you" you answer with a sincere smile.
You move a little away from the entrance to not be in the way and you lean against a wall looking up to look at the stars. However, you gently frown when you see that they are not visible. You forgot theyâre hard to see from central London.
"When are you leaving again?" asks Katie while looking at you.
You leave the sky with your eyes to carry them over her before gently shrugging your shoulders with a smile.
"I havenât decided yet. Why?"
"I was wondering if you would give me your phone number so we could meet again, before you leave."
You bite your lip briefly while observing her. You are not sure if it's a good idea, you will probably leave soon and you know that it would probably not lead to much. But youâd be lying if you said the Irish girl didnât tease your curiosity.
"Okay" you end up answering before you pick up her phone and put your number on it.
A big smile is born on Katieâs face and you donât know her enough yet to realize that itâs a frank smile and not the sufficient smile she likes to have to provoke her opponents. Her phone in her pocket, Katie settles next to you, leaning against the wall like you.
"Do you like to look at the stars?" asked Katie.
"Itâs probably one of the things I prefer to do" you admit without hesitation. "But itâs difficult from here"
"I know a place where they can be seen. You want to go see?"
********
"I just ran into Katie running away with a pretty blonde" laughs Victoria who just arrived while sitting at Liaâs table.
"Iâm going to kill her" the Swiss woman announces, noting that you have also disappeared.
Kyraâs sigh sound out at the same time as Leahâs facepalm. Caitlin masks her amused smile behind Liaâs head, but she is nevertheless surprised by Alessia who smiles back at her.
********
You suspect a little the annoyance that Lia must feel and you feel in spite of yourself a slight guilt at the idea of not enjoying her birthday party with her. But you take a look at Katie after you get out of her car and you quickly realize that sheâs genuinely happy to show you this place.
"Whatâs your favorite constellation?" Katie asks you when youâre both sitting in the grass.
"Aquila" you answer by pointing to the place in the sky where it is. "And you?"
"I didnât have one until now, but it could become my favorite" Katie replies with a smirk.
You laugh slowly and you turn your head in her direction, to see that Katie rolled to the side and that sheâs looking at you. You feel yourself blushed and youâre pretty glad itâs dark and Katie canât see it. But you donât let her out of your sight and you decide to play her game.
"What is your astrological sign?" you ask.
"Virgo"
"Well maybe my favorite constellation is going to be Virgo then"
Katie laughs softlyand, taking a sudden aspiration, you gently take her hand in yours. Katie lets you and you find that her skin is pleasantly warm and soft against yours. You shift your attention to the sky above you, feeling Katieâs gaze stay on you. But it doesnât bother you, itâs not the kind of heavy look that makes you uncomfortable. You feel good and safe with her, despite what Lia seems to think.
Itâs almost two o'clock in the morning when Katie takes you home to your sister, whose keys you have so you can get in and out whenever you want.
"I hope Iâm not interrupting a private celebration" you grin maliciously at Katie, who insisted on accompanying you to the front door.
"If there is going to be a celebration tonight it will probably be to celebrate my death" laughs Katie before explaining, when you turn an interrogative look in her direction "I was not supposed to approach you tonight. Lia has warned me"
"Why did you do it then?" you ask curiously while searching through your purse while looking at it.
"Technically, it was you who approached me" Katie replies with a satisfied smile. "But Iâm very happy about it."
You smile back at her and you probably look at each other for a few seconds too long, before you come out of your trance and regain your self-confidence.
"Iâll defend your cause, if you want" you joke softly.
"See me again and it will have been well worth it."
You smile again and bite your lip briefly. You really want to kiss her, but maybe itâs too early for that. You step forward and put a kiss on her cheek instead before backing away again and opening the door.
"Go home safely"
"I will" answers Katie with a smile. "Good night"
"Sweet dreams"
The house is empty when you enter and you assume that either Lia is not back yet, or she went to Caitlinâs. You go undress and remove your makeup and it's when you are writing to your sister to inform her that you came home when you receive a message from an unknown number.
From Unknow I came home safely. Sleep tight beautiful x
From You Sleep well too. We talk soon x
********
Lia looked at you with skepticism when you told her that nothing happened with Katie, unless looking at the stars and learning to know her. Since her breakup, Katie had a lot of fling and Lia obviously didn't want you to fall for the Irish girl before being ignored by her.
Katie and you wrote to each others a lot during the past days and you find yourself smiling every time she texted you. When she asked you on a date, you accepted with a second thought.
Katie take you to an Irish restaurant, she looked almost outraged to learn that you have never been to Ireland during your many travels. You had a great evening and when she brought you back you vaguely hoped for a kiss but Katie just gently kissed your cheek before smiling with affection. She then waited until you go inside to leave. Then you started texting each other almost all the day, every day.
From Katie ⨠u going to the game today?
From You I am :) why?
From Katie ⨠Would you let me take you for a brunch before ?
From You I would love to
From Katie ⨠Great. I'm taking you at 10 xx
You almost turned the cupboard in which you installed your clothes in your sisterâs guest room to find a proper outfit. You ended up opting for a simple outfit, comfortable but nevertheless different from what you can wear every day. Once ready, you go to the kitchen, in which you find only Catlin in the company of her cup of coffee and a toast withâŚ
"Vegemite?" you ask with a smirk
"Lia always has a jar for me in her cupboards" replies the Australian with amusement.
"How romantic" you laugh softly
You take a glass of water, realizing rather quickly that Caitlin observes you over the cup of coffee that she holds with two hands. Since she and Lia got together, the Australian has taken on the role of your big sister too. You obviously canât compare the connection you have with her with the one you have with Lia, but you appreciate her enormously.
"Are you going out?"
"Yes" you just answer
"With Katie?"
You don't have time to respond with the positive or negative that Liaâs voice is heard behind you. Obviously she must appear when the name of the Irish is pronounced.
"What, Katie?" Lia asks, bowing her eyebrow.
"I'm going to a brunch with her" you explain softly with a sigh. "Look, donât make that face, I know you donât want anything but to protect me, but if it makes you happy⌠Nothing ever happened between us, if it turns out sheâs not even interested in anything but friendship with me"
You gently shrug your shoulders and carefully avoid Liaâs gaze. You donât necessarily want your older sister to see how depressed you are about this idea. But it's Caitlin who speaks again, although she's peacefully returned to reading her diary.
"Or she takes the time to do things right with you because you mean something to her" she points out without looking at you.
You frown thoughtfully at her, but Caitlin doesnât add anything. Lia gets closer to you though, gently laying her hand on yours.
"What would make me happy is that you are too. I just want you to be happy and make sure no one can hurt you any more."
"Iâll be fine, Lia, I promise" you assure her with a little smile. "I learned from my mistakes"
Lia pout a little and when your phone vibrates in your pocket when Katie writes to you that she has arrived and that she waits for you, you take your big sister in your arms.
"I love you" you say before you kiss her cheek.
"I love you too. See you at the game?"
With a smile you nod before leaving the house. Your smile widens when you see Katie waiting for you, leaning against the front of her car.
"You look stunning" Katie smiles looking at your outfit.
"Youâre not bad yourself"
Katie is dressed in her training kit, ready for the game and you find it strangely sexy. Unlike other times you have seen her, you don't hesitate to greet her with a hug and then let her take you by the hand to train you to the passenger door of the car.
The establishment that Katie has chosen is between Liaâs house and the stadium, the Irish girl explaining to you that it's a place that she loves and that has the advantage of not being too well known by the general public. It seems to have its habits and even if you don't necessarily appreciate the big smile with which the waitress welcomes Katie, you are quickly satisfied by the hand that she puts in your back to guide you to her usual table.
As always, the discussion is pleasant. You have to admit you did some research on Katie, but you feel like the Katie that people can see on the football field is different from the one you see every day. The Katie you know is sweet, attentive, considerate and charming. You have the impression that she really listens to you and that she seems particularly interested in what you tell her, no matter what it is.
And the butterflies that you have in the hollow of your belly when her fingers touch your hand while taking the salt are rather very pleasant. However, you regret not knowing if things are really shared or if Katie is only interested in friendship with you.
"Can I ask you a question?" asks Katie, her blue eyes watching you attentively over her cup of tea.
"Of course" you answer with a little smile.
"When she asked me not to come near you, Lia mentioned a romantic relationship that ended badly. Iâm not asking you to tell me everything, but if you have any residual trauma or like thatâŚ"
Of course Lia mentioned your old relationship with Katie. On the other hand, you canât blame her, after learning about the various deceptions of your ex-girlfriend, it was so painful that you never set foot in Switzerland again and you never saw your family again for a year. It apparently left your sister with trauma as well.
"As long as you donât lie to me or hide things from me, it should be okay" you mumble and shrug.
Katie looks funny and you briefly get lost in your thoughts until the Irish woman gently takes your hand in hers. When you look up at her, she smiles softly at you, her eyes immensely sweet.
"No matter what happens, I will never. I promise"
You smile softly at her, losing yourself in her eyes. Katie changes the subject and when itâs time to leave for the stadium, you have the impression that the time has passed much too quickly.
"Do you mind if someone sees you get out of my car? There are often fans waiting for us in the parking lot, they cannot access it but they wait behind the gates. I can drop you off if you want" Katie asks when youâre about to arrive.
"I donât care" you assure her by tapping on her arm.
You didnât expect her to grab your hand with hers to interlace your fingers, but this gesture is rather pleasant.
Katie was right, you barely got out of the car when you heard some people calling her name. The young woman having advised you not to pay attention to it, you follow her inside the corridors in the colors of Arsenal without turning once your glance towards the fans.
"Shall I leave you there?" asks Katie once right outside the door thatâs supposed to take you to the VIP corner, where Lia booked you a seat.
You nod with a slight smile. You know the way now.
"Thanks for the invitation. I had a great time"
"So do I" Katie says, smiling as well. "You still donât know when youâre leaving, right?"
"Maybe soon. I donât know yet"
You gently shrug your shoulders, but you donât miss the disappointment that briefly passes over Katieâs face after her smile drop.
"Oh⌠okay. Well, Iâll see you soon, I guess?"
"Yeah" you smile softly.
Katie gives you a little smile, but itâs only when she turns her heels in the direction of the changing rooms that you walk forward two steps and you take the floor again.
"Katie?"
"Yes?"
The Irish girl turns and looks at you with surprise. She apparently did not expect you to hold her back.
"You want to know what it depends on?"
"Yes" she says again, looking at you carefully.
You made other steps to catch up to her and to be at her height but you mechanically bite your lip, a little anxious about your courage and its repercussions. But now is not the time to back down. Katie seems to have quickly noticed your nervousness since she is also moving in your direction of a step, offering you a reassuring smile.
"You"
"Me?"
"Yes, I⌠I like you, I mean not necessarily only physically. And I really like the moments we spend together, but I donât know if itâs mutual or if Iâm making ideas. And Iâm a little afraid that after talking to you about it now it changes or complicates things, but-"
Katie ends up interrupting you, putting her finger on your lips to silence you. You donât know if itâs a good thing or not and you freeze instantly.
"I like you too, I thought it was obvious. Iâm sorry if I let you think otherwise. My love life may not have been the most stable in a few months, but with you itâs different."
You donât have time to answer anything that Leah Williamson appears around the corner to call Katie. Training will begin soon.
"I have to go. Iâll see you later?"
You nod with a smile. Katie looks at you for a few more seconds smiling before heading to where Leah disappeared a few seconds ago.
"Katie?" You call her again though. "You forgot something"
Gently frowning, Katie turns in your direction, no doubt to see you so close to her, always smiling. She has no time to question you, since you come forward until you can put your lips on hers. Itâs just a light kiss, but the sensations are amazing.
When you open your eyes again, Katieâs are dipping into yours and you have to take it on yourself so you donât pass out. If you listened to yourself, you would do it again, but you donât want to cross the line. That said, given her smile, she doesnât seem to be against that kiss.
"Now you can go" you smile maliciously.
But Katie shakes her head with her big smile still displayed on her face. Taking advantage of your proximity, Katie gently puts her hand on your neck before drawing your face once again against hers. This kiss is longer than the first and your hands naturally find place on Katieâs body.
When Katie gently caresses your lower lip with her tongue, asking for access to yours, you do not hesitate a single second before leaving it to her. Obviously, you forget a little where you are and that everyone could surprise you. It is finally a door noise far away from you that brings you back to reality, a few minutes later.
"I really have to go" whispers Katie, her lips caressing yours when she speaks.
And it makes you half lose your mind. So you canât resist the urge to kiss her again and it takes all your strength to tear you away from her. And let her go.
"Come on, go make the rest of the world enjoy your talent" you smile softly
Katie laughs but steals one last kiss before leaving. Itâs in a second state that you join your seat, but when Katie appears on the field alongside the other players, you canât help but smile again. Katie quickly spots you in the stands and sends you a wink to which you respond with a smile.
In the end, itâs not as safe as this that youâll leave London.

mic'd up
katie mccabe x reader
+ summary: reader, still on the acl squad, has been approached by the arsenal media staff asking if she'd go mic'd up in the stands for one of arsenal's games.
+ warnings: ACL injury mentions right off the bat. swearing. made up game (arsenal v tottenham). reader really embracing the WAG life.
a/n: i came across a video of katie during one of the covid matches, and due to the empty stadium you could hear everything she saidâ and that's where i got this idea :) my first post, hope you enjoy!
like any other football player, you hated the dreaded three letters that would take whoever was the unlucky soul out of the game for a long while.
of course it had always been a fear in the back of your mind, you just never thought it would actually happen to you.
that day you went down on the pitch had been one of the worst. not just for you, but for katie as well as the rest of your arsenal team.
everything had been fine. arsenal was up by two, and half time had just ended. it was around the 52nd minute, when a purposely bad tackle from a chelsea player left you on the ground, clutching your knee as you attempted to keep the tears at bay. (only to fail).
some time later you were holed up in one of the physio rooms of the stadium, when katie came in, the look on your face confirming her worst fear.
honestly, it was getting quite scary how many arsenal players were getting ACL injuries.
she had been by your side for all of it, constantly making sure you were comfortable and had everything you needed, as well as driving you to and from appointments.
the downside meant you weren't able to travel with the team for away games, forcing yourself to be holed up in your flat you shared with katieâ often inviting the rest of the ACL squad over to watch the game together, knowing you'd be insufferable on your own.
luckily for you, today was a home game. you woke up before katie that morning, hobbling down the stairs on your good leg, (and nearly eating shit in the process), you'd prepared her a proper breakfast, consisting of pancakes, bacon, & eggs.
the brunette soon appeared in the kitchen behind your unsuspecting frame, an adoring smile crossing her face at the sight of you lightly nodding your head to whatever song came from the speaker on the marble counter.
nearly jumping out of your skin at the feeling of two strong arms wrapping around your waist, your body relaxed as you registered the familiar feeling of katie, her arms clad in her arsenal training jacket.
you leaned into her touch as you finished up with the bacon, her thick irish accent rang through your ears as her nose brushed against your neck gently. "you should not be on your feet,"
rolling your eyes fondly, you forced yourself to suppress a smile. ever since your injury, katie had been treating you as if you were a porcelain dollâ going to break at the slightest touch.
while sometimes it became a little overbearing, it warmed your heart for her to be this protecting with you, and you wouldn't trade it for the world.
"i was cleared to walk without my crutches, katie," your giggled, relishing in the ticklish feeling of her light breathing against the back of your neck.
"still. ya should have waited for me." she murmured. "i could have carried you down here."
you rolled your eyes once again.
for the first few weeks/months of your injury, she had insisted on carrying you everywhere. from the bed to downstairs, from the front door to the car. no matter where it wasâ she wanted to carry you. wether it was bridal style, your legs wrapped around her waist, or giving you a piggy back, she didn't care.
after breakfast was finished, you rushed back up to change. you settled on one of katie's hoodie's, along with her jersey which you threw on top, and a pair of her sweatpants. nearly everything you wore was hers.
when you'd returned downstairs, she grinned widely at the sight of you dressed in her attire, and couldn't restrain herself from letting her hands roam your body as you shoved your feet into some sneakers.
"oi hands off, mccabe."
the ireland captain chuckled, tapping your rear end before you stood back up, sending you a cheeky wink when you glared at her.
arriving at the emirates with your personal chauffeur, the two of you made your way through the grounds, greeting any staff members you'd passed by and waving to the media staff as you each made your way toward your separate destinations.
you had a brief session with a physio to assure everything was still fine and dandy with your knee, whereas katie was heading off toward the locker room with the others.
as you left your meeting 15-ish minutes later, you had been wandering the halls when you were stopped by one of the media staff, claiming they had a task for you.
since you were going to be in the stands again, they had asked if you would go mic'd up, thinking it'd be a fun video idea for arsenal's youtube channel.
you agreed quickly, thrilled at the idea. they had informed you that there would be a camera a little ways away from you, to capture your reactions in both your voice as well as your actions.
one of the members clipped a small square microphone device to the collar of your (katie's) jersey, as another member held a camera and recorded your actions.

[Camera fades in from black to show you, stood in one of the many corridors of the Emirates Stadium.]
grinning, you gripped your shirt and pulled it closer, "we've got mccabe! katie mccabe! can you hear me?" you asked, looking into the camera that was recording you.
[Laughter is heard around you before the scene cuts and fades into a brief black screen. When it returns, the camera is unfocused, going in an out before focusing on you, looking at the camera as you don't realize it's recording.]
"is it going?" you asked with a dopey smile, the cameraman behind you nodding. "right. hi, i'm y/n l/n and today i'll be mic'd up as i watch tonight's game." you giggle, pointing at the microphone clipped to your shirt before you make your way toward your seat.
[Camera follows you down the hall before cutting to you sat with Beth, Viv, and Leah, the former two sat in the row below you. You pull a small, barely noticeable box out of your pocket. The camera zooms in on your hand, revealing the box is actually a miniature uno deck.]
"i know how we can pass the time," you grin micheviously.
0:45
[Camera cuts to the four of you playing uno, Beth and Viv swiveled in their seats to face you and Leah above them. It catches Leah attempting to peek at your cards before you shove her head away, the scene then switching to a new clip of the four women arguing.]
"absolutely not, beth cheated!" leah yells, hands dropping dramatically onto her thighs with a loud smack.
"you fucking wish! you just suck williamson!"
[Viv is seen trying to keep the peace as you laugh loudly, the four of you gaining looks from surrounding match watchersâ only for them to look away at the sight of four of arsenal's own. Your laughter becomes louder as Leah slams her tiny cards aggressively onto your thigh, folding her arms and leaning back in her chair with a pout.]
"oh, cheer up captain," you pout mockingly, reaching to pinch her cheeks between your fingers.
1:02
[Camera cuts to the teams walkout, briefly showing Katie McCabe before turning back to you, a large grin on your face, never failing to leave.]
"that's my girl!" you shout, hands cupped around your mouth to make yourself louder. "let's go number fifteen!"
1:39
[Cuts to you leaned back in your seat with your arms folded. An amused look is on your face as you shake your head. Camera pans to the big screen as Katie's name is shown, a yellow card next to it.]
"it's been like thirty minutes and she already has a card," you giggle to yourself before sighing fondly, a gentle smile on your face. "that's my girl."
2:06
[Different camera shows Katie sliding her foot in front of a Tottenham player, successfully and cleanly retrieving the ball from her feet before panning to you with your elbows propped up on your knees, head resting in your hands.]
"oh my god, she's so hot." you sighed absentmindedly, momentarily forgetting about those surrounding you and the microphone attached to your collar.
[Beside you, Leah bursts out laughing, the sound picking up through your mic as the blonde discretely turning to the cameraman who has now directed it toward her, pointing at you before fake wretching.]
3:21
[Camera shows you jumping up out of your seat, annoyance clear on your face as your hands are perched on your hips.]
"oh, come the fuck on! that's so clearly a foul!"
4:38
[During halftime, the camera follows as the four of you briefly leave your seats to join the girls in the locker room. The cameraman does not enter, only filming the door, however you can be heard from inside.]
"north london is what?!"
"north london is red!" an irish voice answers you.
"hell yeah it is!" you reply, then followed by the sound of palms smacking against each other.
another voice cuts in, "alright, simmer down you two!"
"oi! put her down, she's fragile!"
4:50
[Camera cuts to you stood with your hands on Katie's shoulders, giving her your usual half time pep talk, brushing stray fly-aways out of her face as she smiles at you. The sound is cut off, so the viewers can only see the motion of both players' lips moving as you speak to each other, the final thing being Katie moving toward you, scenes changing just before any PDA is shown.]
5:47
[Camera pans from Katie running around the pitch celebrating, arms in the air and then back to you, the four Arsenal players chanting together, you being the loudest and most enthusiastic of the four.]
"we've got mccabe! katie mccabe! i just don't think you understand! she plays out on the wing! she hits it with a zing! we've got katie mccabe!"
6:25
[Video closes out with you and Katie stood outside of the stadium, her arm wrapped around your shoulder as you do the outro.]
"that was me mic'd up, i hope i was entertaining enough for you all. thanks for watching." you grin shyly, waving with both hands. "leave a comment if you think katie should get mic'd up next."
[Katie laughs before kissing your cheek affectionately, the brunette waving bye with her free hand before the video fades to black.]

SECRET LOVE - katie mccabe
katie mccabe x fem!reader
vaguely inspired by secret love song by little mix!
underneath the fluorescent glow of the lights beaming across the emirates stadium, you stood on the sidelines, your usual spot - as you watched your girlfriend shine and showcase her talent on the pitch. the chants of her name echoed around you when she won the ball through one of her famous tackles, and you couldnât help but feel a swell of pride in your chest, knowing that you were surrounded by thousands of people equally as captivated by the irish woman as you were.
well, maybe not in the exact same way that you were, but they didnât know that. nobody did. here, you were merely an addition to the blur of red and white shirts and scarves in the stands.
just another voice, merging with all of the others belting the chorus of âthe angelâ.
nothing special.
and with that thought, the cheers and applause surrounding you quickly became almost taunting, leaving a sense of unease lingering in the depths of your soul. behind the facade of her fame and success, and you being simply a fan, another face in the crowd making up a sold out stadium, lay a hidden truth. a truth that threatened to tear apart the already incredibly fragile fabric of your relationship.
you and katie had fallen in love against all odds and expectations, drawn together by what you would call fate - and a passion that transcended all possible boundaries. however, in a world, her world, where public image and professionalism was everything, especially with the way social media was changing - the revealing of your love would jeopardise not only katieâs career and standing within the football community, but your life too.
especially as you werenât used to the madness of being a public figure.
katie had been in very public relationships in the past, and was determined this time to not give strangers, or to even her own ex a reason to merely look in your direction or attempt to ruin what the two of you had. you deserved more than being reduced to a gossip topic or stupid joke on a so called âpodcastâ and your girlfriend insisted on not allowing this to happen to you. every move she made was plastered online and analysed to no end, and with that came walls and boundaries that she put up - and an even fiercer protectiveness over her loved ones. you particularly.
you had known this from the get go, and you knew more than anything that she loved you. but there were moments where your resolve cracked, and insecurities slipped through your one innocent, almost naive bubble of love.
as the final whistle blew, signifying a well earned arsenal win, you hung back - allowing the crowds around you to eventually disperse, with their signs begging for katieâs attention trailing by their feet, before finding your way to her, a well practiced routine that now didnât even need to be said.
you hated that you felt envious of the fans around you, able to literally plaster their love for the girl, your girl, for everyone to see, without even an ounce of hesitation.
your usual car ride was oddly quiet on the way home, with you lost in your own thoughts and your girlfriend still winding down from the adrenaline rush of the game, and quickly sensing that something was up with you.
she knew that you had been struggling more and more with being almost like her little secret as time went on, and it killed her to watch you fade away before her eyes. but her desire to protect you was stronger than her ability to see just how much the tiniest action would affect you.
you knew it was playing on her mind too as she slipped her hand into yours when you were walking from the car up to her house. a short lived moment of happiness and almost relief, that you cut short when you noticed her head constantly turning - making sure nobody was watching, even in the darkness of the night enveloping you.
tears formed in your eyes at a speed in any other moment you would find embarrassing, as you dropped her hand and rushed ahead, ignoring her calls of your name trailing behind you.
and in an instant, her house, your usual refuge from the prying eyes of the outside world, turned from an escape to the place you were trying to hide from as you entered it, with katie not even a step behind you.
âbaby please. talk to me.â her voice made you shiver, her being much closer to you than you had realised, and the scratch of her accent almost made you crumble entirely. it didnât - but it did force your sudden guard down slightly, and allowed her to guide you towards the sofa with a hand on your back.
you sank into the plush of the cushions pathetically, a perfect match to the way you threw your head in your hands a second later. your thoughts were racing around your mind, and not showing signs of letting up for even a second. youâd gone from having one moment of vulnerability at a game to being convinced that your world was ending.
that you werenât worth it, you never had been - and that she was going to leave you.
âsweetheart, look at me.â katie almost begged, now on her knees crouched on the floor in front of you, looking the most concerned youâd ever seen her, which made you feel beyond stupid.
you knew she loved you. any idiot could look at her now, notice the look in her eyes as she took in you and know that she loved you more than anything. so why was it so hard for you to see that?
why could you not just appreciate what you had and be happy?
any one of those fans sat around you tonight would kill to be you if they knew. and yet youâre near crying and refusing to look at her.
âitâs silly, iâm sorry, you had such a good game i shouldnât be ruining it.â your words were no more than a mumble, spoken into the palms of your hands.
âno itâs not. nothing you feel is ever silly, i promise. talk to me.â she clasped your hands in hers, causing the now slowing tears to kick start again.
âi just- iâm just so tired of not being able to show the world how much i love you. i donât want to be a secret anymore, all of the hiding is suffocating me and i donât want that. i donât want us to deny ourselves the chance to be truly happy. so many couples are out freely, why canât we be like that? am i not enough? or do you not want to be with me? i- i just canât do it anymore. iâm so sorry, katie.â
you closed your eyes when your ramblings trailed off into sniffles, not wanting to witness her reaction. she wanted this to be a secret - she was dead set on it. you werenât prepared for this life. you didnât know what it was like. all you thought would come from this conversation was her leaving you.
that surely was the only outcome here.
she didnât reply for a few seconds. seconds that felt like hours as an unnerving, almost cold silence fell between the short distance between you.
âlook at me.â
and for the first time since your emotions had taken over you - you made eye contact with her, staring into her eyes that you were convinced contained some kind of magic, holding the ability to completely bring down your walls just from a glance, every time.
âokay.â she spoke, so softly that you were almost convinced youâd misheard.
âokay what?â you looked at her, confusion visibly plastered all her your face - that in any other circumstance wouldâve had her laughing and teasing you.
âwe can do this.â her voice was so soft, so vulnerable that it made guilt seep into your veins.
âreally, i donât want you to feel forced i understand you donât want-â
âbaby. no. i want more than anything to show the world how much i love you. i just want to protect you from all of the negativity out there, but the last thing i wanted to do was push you away. if youâre ready, then so am i, kay?â she cut you off before youâd even had a chance to let your insecurities consume any more of you.
âand you are my absolute world. iâm sorry i let you doubt that for even a second. i love you so much it physically hurts - everything i do is for you, and iâm so beyond lucky to have you.â
and with her words, your tears returned once more - but instead for a completely different cause.
her lips were on yours in an instant, joining in a kiss that whilst mixed with salty tears - said everything that months worth of words could never.
you settled instantly in her arms, letting her hold you and literally kiss all of your troubles away.
-
âiâm gonna have to start training more then i guess!â she broke the first peaceful, happy silence of the evening abruptly, and confusing you even more than she had before at the randomness of her words.
âwait what? why?â
âbecause you are all mine. and look at ye! iâm going to have to fight off my competition now theyâre going to know who you are!â
âthereâs no competition, never has been.â
-
this is not proof read and is most likely the worst thing iâve ever written but i was determined to actually get it out of my drafts

Rivalry To Romance
Katie McCabe x Reader
Word count: 13.4k
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Katie McCabe had always prided herself on her loyalty to her team and her country. Playing for the Republic of Ireland wasnât just a positionâit was an identity. Thatâs why, when Arsenal announced their newest signing, Katieâs stomach churned with a mix of anger and disbelief.
Y/N Y/L/N from Northern Ireland. Her fiercest rival.
The rumors were true; Y/N had signed with Arsenal, her club, her territory. Katie couldn't shake the memory of their last match, where Y/N's last-minute tackle had nearly cost Ireland the game. She could still remember the cold glares they exchanged, the heated words they spat across the pitch, and the way Y/N stood unfazed by Katieâs ire.
âHey, Katie, look whoâs here!â Leah called, snapping Katie out of her thoughts as Y/N entered the locker room, glancing around the space as if she owned it.
Katie clenched her fists. Here they go.
âMcCabe,â Y/N greeted, her voice cool as she acknowledged her.
âY/L/N,â Katie replied, voice icy.
From that first meeting, it was like the air between them carried an electric charge. Training drills became intense battles; Katie would push Y/N off the ball, and Y/N would retaliate with a perfectly-timed tackle. The team was torn between amusement and exasperation, watching the two rivals go head-to-head every day.
Arsenalâs training grounds hummed with the usual energy, players jogging onto the pitch and taking their positions. The team was warming up, but Katie could feel the static tension creeping up her spine. It wasnât just the usual excitement of a new training session. It was the unmistakable edge she felt every time Y/N was nearby.
Katie glanced to her right, where Y/N was adjusting her shin guards. She caught Y/Nâs eye and rolled her shoulders back, flashing a smirk she knew would rile her up.
âReady for a proper session, Y/L/N?â Katie said with a challenging grin. âOr are you only fierce when itâs Northern Ireland on your shirt?â
Y/N scoffed, crossing her arms. âTrust me, McCabe. I donât need a green shirt to beat you.â
Their teammates watched as the two squared up, a mix of amusement and anticipation rippling through the group. This rivalry had become daily entertainment.
Coach Jonas clapped his hands. âAlright, letâs goâsmall-sided games. Five-a-side!â He started dividing players, and by some stroke of either luck or irony, Katie and Y/N ended up on opposing teams.
It was a fierce game from the start. Katie and Y/N seemed to gravitate toward each other, each of them upping the intensity with every pass, every tackle. Katie saw an opening, her teammate Leah ready to receive the ball, but the second she passed, Y/N was there, intercepting the play and charging up the field.
Katie chased her down, getting close enough to snap, âKeep dreaming if you think youâre gonna get past me.â
Y/N didnât break stride. âWatch me.â
Katie lunged in, aiming to win back possession, but Y/N anticipated it and deftly sidestepped, sending Katie stumbling as Y/N dribbled past. Laughter broke out from the sidelines, and Katieâs face flushed as Y/N shot her a triumphant smirk.
Katie felt a flash of anger surge through her veins. She caught up to Y/N, deliberately closing in too fast, and clipped her ankle just as she went to take a shot. Y/N stumbled, barely staying on her feet, and whipped around to glare at Katie.
âSeriously?â Y/N snapped, her voice sharp. âWhatâs your problem, McCabe?â
Katie put her hands on her hips, unbothered by the accusation. âMy problem? Maybe itâs that you canât keep up, but youâre always running your mouth.â
Y/N stepped closer, her eyes narrowing. âKeep up? Iâm leaving you in the dust every time, and you canât handle it.â
Katie rolled her eyes, putting her face inches from Y/Nâs. âPlease, you only look good out there because Iâm going easy on you.â
âOh, thatâs hilarious,â Y/N shot back, sarcasm dripping from every word. âKeep telling yourself that, Katie.â
The tension had hit a breaking point. They were nose-to-nose, both breathing heavily, eyes locked in a fierce standoff.
Before either could say anything more, Leah stepped between them, her tone somewhere between amused and exasperated. âAlright, alright, break it up, you two. Youâre both as stubborn as bricks.â She looked between them, raising an eyebrow. âIf you spent half this energy playing together instead of against each other, weâd be unstoppable.â
Katie huffed, but took a step back, her eyes never leaving Y/Nâs.
Y/N finally let out a slow breath, her gaze just as intense. âFine,â she muttered, brushing past Katie as she moved back into position. âJust try to keep up.â
But as they returned to the game, something had shifted. Every pass, every movement, had an extra layer of intensity, neither willing to back down. For better or worse, training with Y/N had become Katieâs new battle, and she was all in.
Training was in full swing under a blazing sun. The team had split into small groups for a scrimmage, and as usual, Katie and Y/N had found themselves on opposing sides. It was a familiar, tense setup, but today felt different. The energy between them was sharper, like a wire pulled taut, ready to snap.
The game had barely begun when Y/N received the ball in the midfield. She pivoted, sidestepping an opponent, her eyes scanning the field for an opening. Katie saw her chance and surged forward, narrowing in on Y/N like a missile.
Y/N barely had time to react before Katie came in, sliding in with a tackle that was nowhere near clean. Her cleats clipped Y/Nâs knee, sending her sprawling to the ground. The sound of the impact echoed, and a few teammates gasped as Y/N hit the turf, hard.
Katie pushed herself to her feet, but before she could turn away, Y/N was already up, her face twisted in fury.
âAre you kidding me, McCabe?â Y/N barked, shoving her back.
Katie staggered a step but quickly steadied herself, her jaw clenched. âWhat? Canât handle a little tackle?â she shot back, voice dripping with mock innocence. âMaybe youâre not cut out for the game.â
Y/Nâs fists clenched at her sides. âA little tackle? You practically tried to break my leg!â
Katie stepped closer, her voice low and menacing. âMaybe if you were quicker, I wouldnât have to.â
That was it. Y/Nâs hand flew out, giving Katie another hard shove, this time with more force. Katieâs expression shifted, anger flashing in her eyes as she recovered and shoved her right back. It was harder, enough to make Y/N take a few steps back, but she recovered just as fast.
Without thinking, Y/N surged forward, and suddenly, they were chest-to-chest, faces inches apart, breathing heavily as anger radiated between them.
âSay that again,â Y/N hissed, her eyes blazing. âI dare you.â
Katie leaned in, her eyes flashing with a dangerous glint. âYou heard me. Maybe itâs time someone knocked you down a peg, Y/L/N.â
Y/N let out a bitter laugh, shaking her head. âYouâre so full of yourself, McCabe. Just because youâre Irelandâs pride doesnât mean everyone else is beneath you.â
Katieâs jaw tightened, her expression turning icy. âAnd just because you wear a badge doesnât mean you belong here. Youâre not Arsenal material.â
That hit a nerve, and Y/Nâs patience finally snapped. She grabbed the front of Katieâs training shirt, pulling her closer, but Katie was just as quick, gripping Y/Nâs wrist and holding it in a tight lock. The tension between them was palpable, both locked in a furious standoff.
Their teammates were watching in shocked silence, unsure of whether to intervene or let them sort it out.
âKatie, Y/N, thatâs enough!â Leah shouted, stepping forward, but neither moved.
Katieâs grip tightened on Y/Nâs wrist, her voice barely above a whisper but laced with fury. âYou think you can come in here, walk all over everyone, and just fit right in? Iâve been here for years. Iâve bled for this team. You havenât earned it.â
Y/N yanked her hand free and shoved Katie again, harder this time, and Katie stumbled backward, but she quickly regained her footing, fists clenched. Before she could respond, Beth and Leah stepped in, each grabbing one of the girls to separate them.
âAlright, thatâs enough!â Leah said, her voice firm. âYou two are acting like children.â
Katie glared over Leahâs shoulder, still breathing heavily. âTell that to her.â
âOh, please, Katie!â Y/N spat back, struggling against Bethâs hold. âAt least I donât go around acting like I own the place.â
Beth rolled her eyes, trying to keep Y/N steady. âLook, if you two want to kill each other, do it off the pitch. Right now, weâre a team.â
Katie huffed, finally breaking her gaze from Y/N, though her face was still flushed with anger. âFine,â she muttered, wrenching herself free from Leahâs grip. She stormed off a few paces, but couldnât resist one last glare back in Y/Nâs direction.
Y/N shook her head, shrugging off Bethâs hold. âWhatever. Just keep her out of my way,â she muttered before turning to walk back to her spot on the pitch.
As the two resumed their positions, their teammates exchanged uneasy glances, but one thing was clear: this wasnât over. The fire between them had only been stoked, and it was only a matter of time before it flared up again.
Preseason camp had only just begun, and the Arsenal players were still settling into their assigned rooms. Spirits were high as teammates unpacked, talking excitedly about the upcoming season and all the memories theyâd make on this trip.
But down the hall, the atmosphere was anything but cheerful.
Katie McCabe stood frozen outside her assigned room, staring at the name on the door next to hers in disbelief. She rubbed her eyes, double-checking. There was no mistaking it.
âRoom 14A: Katie McCabe and Y/N Y/L/Nâ
A frustrated groan escaped her lips. âYouâve got to be kidding me.â
At that very moment, Y/N rounded the corner, stopping in her tracks as soon as she saw Katie standing there. Her eyes fell on the door, and she blanched, reading her worst nightmare confirmed in bold letters.
âNo way. This has to be a mistake,â Y/N muttered, her voice dripping with irritation.
âBelieve me, I couldnât agree more,â Katie snapped. âWho thought it was a good idea to put us in the same room?â
Y/N clenched her jaw. âJust great. The one person on this team I canât stand, and Iâm supposed to live with her for the next two weeks?â
Katie crossed her arms, shooting Y/N an icy glare. âDonât worry; I wonât be throwing you any welcome parties either.â
The two stood in tense silence until Leah walked by, catching their expressions.
âWhatâs up with you two?â she asked, looking between them with an amused smile.
âWhatâs up? Whatâs up?â Katie fumed, hands gesturing wildly. âIâm roomed with her, thatâs whatâs up!â
Y/N threw her hands up in exasperation. âOh, donât act like this is a dream come true for me either, Katie.â
Leah stifled a laugh. âI donât know; maybe you two will actually learn to get along if youâre forced to spend some time together.â
Katie scoffed, but Leah was already walking away, ignoring her protests.
âLearn to get along?â Katie muttered, turning to Y/N. âSheâs delusional.â
Y/N didnât waste a second to turn away, muttering as she marched toward her teammates who were gathered down the hall. As soon as she reached them, she put on her most pleading expression. âPlease, someone switch with me,â she begged. âIâll take anyoneâeven Beth, and she snores like a lawnmower.â
Beth raised her eyebrows in mock offense. âHey, donât drag me into this! Besides, I think itâs poetic justice.â She exchanged a glance with Leah, both grinning as they enjoyed the unfolding drama.
âYou all think this is hilarious, donât you?â Y/N groaned.
âAbsolutely,â Leah replied, not even trying to hide her laughter.
Meanwhile, Katie was ranting to her own little group on the other end of the hall.
âItâs like the universe is punishing me. I finally make it through all the preseason drills, and now this?â She threw her hands up in exasperation. âAll she does is talk back, glare, and then act like Iâm the problem!â
Jen leaned against the wall, clearly amused. âYouâre the one talking about her nonstop, Katie. Sounds like youâve got it bad.â
Katie shot her a glare. âI do not âhave it bad.â I have it terribly.â
Down the hall, Y/N continued her complaints to Beth and Caitlin, who were listening with barely hidden amusement. âIâm telling you, Iâll be lucky if we donât end up killing each other by the end of the week,â Y/N said, crossing her arms. âSheâs got this whole âIâm too good for everyoneâ thing going on, like sheâs the queen of Arsenal.â
Beth shrugged, clearly unfazed by Y/Nâs complaints. âSheâs been here a long time. She probably thinks youâre here to take her spot.â
Y/N rolled her eyes. âAs if I care about taking her spot.â
âMaybe,â Caitlin interjected, smirking. âBut she thinks you do.â
Just as Y/N was about to retort, Coach Jonas walked by and caught a few words of their conversation. He paused, taking in the glares Katie and Y/N were shooting each other across the hallway.
âAlright, alright,â Jonas said, clapping his hands. âIf Iâm hearing complaints from both sides, then maybe this arrangement is exactly what you two need. Who knows? You might actually learn something from each other.â
Katie opened her mouth to protest, but he cut her off with a knowing look. âNo room swaps. Consider it a preseason exercise inâŚteam bonding.â
He walked away, leaving Katie and Y/N fuming in the middle of the hall.
Once he was out of sight, Katie threw her hands up, clearly frustrated. âFine. But stay out of my way, Y/L/N. Weâre on opposite schedules. Iâll shower at night; you take the morning.â
Y/N rolled her eyes. âGreat. Fine by me. Iâd rather not have to look at you first thing in the morning.â
Katie shot her one last glare before grabbing her bags and shoving her way into the room. Y/N followed suit, dragging her things in and slamming the door behind her.
And so, the rivals were roomed together, forced to share a space and to tolerate each otherâs presence. But if one thing was clear, it was that neither would make this easy on the other.
Preseason training was already intense enough, but it quickly became clear that the real entertainment of the camp was Katie and Y/Nâs constant bickering. It didnât matter if they were running drills, passing the ball, or even just grabbing lunchâKatie and Y/N managed to turn every moment into an opportunity to one-up each other.
And their teammates were absolutely here for it.
The day started with a light warm-up, but the tension between Katie and Y/N was thick as ever. They were supposed to be practicing passing drills together, but within minutes, the shouting began.
âYou call that a pass?â Katie sneered, catching the ball and immediately firing it back with unnecessary force. âIâve seen toddlers with better control!â
Y/N scoffed as she trapped the ball. âIf youâd stop kicking it like itâs a cannonball, maybe I wouldnât have to adjust every time.â
Caitlin and Beth watched from the sidelines, exchanging amused glances.
âOh, this is going to be good,â Caitlin whispered, nudging Beth. âTen quid says Y/N snaps first.â
Beth grinned. âI donât know. Katieâs got that fiery look in her eyes today. Iâd bet on her.â
Meanwhile, across the field, the argument had only escalated. Y/N rolled her eyes at Katie. âMaybe try aiming, McCabe. Iâm not out here trying to dodge bullets.â
Katie shrugged with a smirk. âThen maybe you shouldnât have signed up to play with the big leagues, princess.â
That was all Y/N needed. She fired the ball back at Katieâs feet with a little too much force, and it nearly tripped Katie, who barely managed to regain her footing. A few of the other players tried (and failed) to stifle their laughter.
Alessia, standing nearby with her hands on her knees, was practically in tears. âHow long do you think theyâre going to keep this up?â
Leah, leaning against the goalpost, chuckled. âWith those two? At least another hour. Maybe all season.â
By lunchtime, Katie and Y/N had managed to argue about nearly every topic imaginable. As they filed into the dining hall, Y/N immediately rolled her eyes when she saw Katie heading for the same table.
âOh, fantastic,â Y/N muttered. âThere are about ten other tables here, but sure, sit right here.â
Katie plopped down across from her, eyes glinting mischievously. âWhatâs wrong, Y/N? Canât handle sharing a table either?â
Y/N shot her a glare, stabbing her salad with extra vigor. âItâs just bad for digestion, you know? All this hostility.â
Katie laughed. âMaybe thatâs your excuse for that horrible passing earlier.â
Caitlin nudged Leah as they sat nearby, enjoying their front-row seat to the show. âI swear, theyâre like an old married couple,â she whispered, trying not to laugh too loudly.
Leah smirked. âRight? Just imagine if they actually liked each other. Theyâd be unstoppable.â
Across the table, the two rivals continued their snarky back-and-forth.
âYouâve got dressing all over your face,â Katie said, smirking as she pointed to Y/Nâs cheek. âOr is that just part of the look?â
Y/N wiped her cheek with a napkin, scowling. âAt least I donât inhale my food like a barbarian.â
Katie rolled her eyes. âBarbarian? Just because I donât nibble on my food like a rabbit doesnât mean Iâm a barbarian.â
Beth let out a loud snort, drawing both Katieâs and Y/Nâs glares.
âSorry,â she said, holding up her hands in surrender. âItâs justâŚthis is the best free entertainment Iâve had in ages.â
The others at the table nodded in agreement, smirking as Katie and Y/N exchanged another round of withering looks.
As they all finished lunch and moved on to free time, the team decided to cool off by the pool. But even there, Katie and Y/N couldnât seem to stay out of each otherâs way.
As Y/N was leaning down to grab her water bottle by the poolside, Katie âaccidentallyâ bumped into her, causing Y/N to stumble forward, nearly losing her balance.
Y/N whipped around, eyes narrowed. âOh, that was subtle. Are you five?â
Katie shrugged, feigning innocence. âSorry, didnât see you there. Youâre just kind ofâŚin the way.â
Leah, lounging on a sunbed nearby, turned to Alessia with a grin. âYou think if we lock them in a room, theyâll either end up being best friends or kill each other?â
Alessia laughed. âIâd bet on the killing.â
That night, back in their shared room, Katie and Y/Nâs bickering reached new heights.
âI canât believe I have to share a bathroom with you,â Y/N complained, huffing as she watched Katie brush her teeth.
Katie raised an eyebrow, not bothering to pause her brushing. âBelieve me, Iâm not thrilled either. You leave your stuff everywhere!â
âOh, please,â Y/N shot back. âThe only thing Iâve left out is a toothbrush, while youâve somehow managed to scatter your entire life all over the place.â
Katie spit into the sink, wiping her mouth with a towel. âYouâre dramatic, Y/L/N. Maybe if you could manage a littleâŚorganization?â
âOh, now youâre giving me life advice?â Y/N scoffed, rolling her eyes. âThe last thing I need is tips from you.â
Beth, eavesdropping through the thin walls, laughed softly, turning to Leah in the room next door. âTheyâre still going at it.â
Leah shook her head, chuckling. âAt this point, maybe we should let them keep fighting. I think itâs the most energy theyâve had all camp.â
Katie trudged back to her shared room with Y/N after an exhausting day of training. All she wanted was a hot shower and the blissful silence of some music in her headphones. But as she reached the door, Katie slowed down, hearing Y/Nâs voice muffled through the wood.
It wasnât unusual for Y/N to take phone calls; most of them seemed heated, muttered complaints or irritated sighs that Katie had learned to tune out. But this time, something was different. Y/Nâs voice was low andâŚtrembling?
Katie hesitated, hand on the doorknob. She could have walked away or given her roommate some space, but curiosity got the better of her.
âLook, I get it, okay?â Y/Nâs voice cracked slightly, and Katie leaned closer, her heart suddenly pounding in her chest. âYou⌠you donât have to make excuses. If youâre done, just say it.â
A thick silence hung in the air as Y/N listened to the voice on the other end, her breathing shaky.
âRight. Yeah, itâs probably for the best.â A forced laugh. âI mean, Iâll still see you around, yeah? At least we donât have to make a scene about it.â
Katie felt a pang of guilt for listening in, but she couldnât seem to tear herself away from the door. She heard the faint sound of a sigh, one that held both resignation and defeat.
âI just⌠I thought maybe this time it would work,â Y/N continued, her voice barely above a whisper. âBut I guess I was wrong. Again.â
Another silence.
âNo, donât worry. Iâll be fine,â she said quickly, though her voice wavered. âItâs just⌠I mean, you couldâve told me sooner, you know? Instead of letting me hold on thinkingâŚâ
Katieâs brow furrowed, a strange ache forming in her chest as she listened to Y/Nâs words. Y/N, the stubborn and fierce player she clashed with daily, sounded so small, so fragile.
âRight. Well⌠good luck with everything,â Y/N said, her tone hardening. âGoodbye, then.â
There was a soft click, and Katie heard Y/N let out a shaky breath, followed by the muffled sound of her trying to hold back tears. Katie swallowed, suddenly feeling like an intruder in her own room. But before she could figure out what to do, the door swung open, and there stood Y/N, her eyes red and rimmed with tears.
Katie froze, her usual witty remark caught in her throat as she registered the devastated look on Y/Nâs face.
Y/Nâs expression turned to one of horror and anger in equal measure. âWere you⌠listening?â
Katie opened her mouth to deny it, but no excuse came to mind. âI⌠I didnât mean to, I justâŚâ She stopped, realizing that anything she said would sound weak.
âJust what, Katie?â Y/Nâs voice was tight with anger, but her red-rimmed eyes betrayed the vulnerability behind her words. âEavesdropping for fun now?â
Katieâs defenses kicked in, feeling suddenly cornered by Y/Nâs hurt. âLook, I didnât mean to eavesdrop, okay? I came back to the room and⌠I just heard you talking. Iâm not some heartless creep.â
Y/N laughed bitterly, brushing past her and tossing her phone onto her bed. âWell, if youâre done with the free show, you can leave now.â
Katie hesitated, watching as Y/N crossed her arms and looked away, trying to hide the way her lip trembled.
âY/NâŚâ Katie said softly, but Y/N cut her off.
âDonât,â Y/N snapped. âI donât need your pity. I donât need anything from you.â
Katie took a breath, swallowing the instinct to fight back. She remembered the conversation sheâd overheardâthe pain in Y/Nâs voice, the vulnerable words that had cracked her usually unbreakable armor.
âLook,â Katie said, softening her tone. âI didnât mean to intrude. And Iâm⌠Iâm sorry. I know what itâs like to have someone walk out on you.â
Y/N scoffed, clearly unimpressed, though the hurt was still evident on her face. âOh, great, Katie McCabe is getting all sentimental now. Just what I needed.â
Katie clenched her jaw, resisting the urge to snap back. âYou think I wanted to see this? That I wanted to hear it?â
Y/N glared, but her expression softened just a fraction, enough that Katie noticed. She took a hesitant step forward, her voice gentle.
âFor what itâs worth, it sounds like you deserved a lot better than whoever that was,â Katie said.
Y/Nâs shoulders dropped slightly, her eyes darting away. âIt doesnât matter now,â she murmured, her voice barely audible. âShe⌠she didnât want this.â
Katie studied her for a moment, feeling a strange pull to offer somethingâanythingâto take away the hurt in Y/Nâs eyes.
âYou knowâŚâ Katie began, shoving her hands in her pockets, âyou donât have to pretend youâre fine. Not with me.â
Y/N let out a humorless laugh, blinking quickly. âRight. Because weâre best friends now, is that it?â
Katie shrugged, feeling a tinge of awkwardness but pushing past it. âMaybe not best friends. But weâre teammates. And even if we donât always see eye to eye⌠I wouldnât want you to go through this alone.â
Y/N didnât respond immediately, just stared at her with an unreadable expression. After a long pause, she finally spoke, her voice softer than before.
âWell⌠thanks, I guess,â Y/N mumbled, still avoiding Katieâs gaze. âBut Iâm fine. Really.â
Katie bit back a sigh, nodding as she made her way to her side of the room. She didnât say anything else, sensing that Y/N wasnât ready for any more sympathy. But as she lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling, Katie couldnât shake the feeling that sheâd just seen a side of Y/N that no one else had.
And as much as she tried to ignore it, she couldnât stop herself from feeling just a little bit protective.
It started with the water bottle.
Katie noticed it one morning at training. Y/N had been running late, clearly flustered and fumbling through her bag for her water bottle, only to come up empty-handed.
Katie had shrugged, grabbing her spare bottle and sliding it onto the bench beside Y/Nâs stuff, just within reach. Y/N, too busy running drills, hadnât even noticed when she came back for a quick drink, grabbing the bottle and taking a long gulp before heading back onto the field.
Katie rolled her eyes, a slight smirk tugging at her lips. Some gratitude.
But she couldnât help herself. Over the next few days, Katie found herself picking up little habits to look out for Y/N, in ways so subtle even she didnât notice at first.
It was as simple as setting a towel aside when Y/N forgot to bring one for cooldown. Or holding the door an extra second when she saw Y/N coming down the hall, still pulling her hair into a bun. Or making sure to hang back at dinner, subtly positioning herself between Y/N and some of the louder teammates whenever Y/N looked especially worn out.
The more Katie did it, the more she expected Y/N to notice. And each time Y/N passed her without so much as a glance, Katie felt a small sting of frustration.
One afternoon after practice, Y/N was struggling with the zipper on her duffel bag. It had been giving her trouble for days, and she kept muttering about needing to get it fixed.
Katie watched, casually leaning against the wall, as Y/N huffed and tried to yank the zipper free. It gave a metallic whine, refusing to budge.
Katie sighed, strolling over without a word. She knelt down and fiddled with the zipper for a moment, pressing her thumb just right to ease the snag. With a tug, it slid smoothly back into place.
âOh,â Y/N said, glancing down at her now-functional zipper, then back up at Katie. âThanks, Iââ But she cut herself off, barely waiting for a nod from Katie before scooping up her bag and heading for the showers.
Katie watched her go, feeling a mix of annoyance and something strangely warmer, despite herself. Typical.
The next day, during scrimmage, Katie spotted Y/N wincing after a hard tackle. She wasnât limping enough to stop, but Katie could tell her ankle was bothering her. Katie bit her lip, feeling her usual urge to call Y/N out on pushing through pain. Instead, she jogged over, staying close enough to offer support without being too obvious.
When they got a break, she made a detour to the medical kit, grabbing some extra ice packs and placing them discreetly on Y/Nâs spot on the bench.
When Y/N finished her reps and slumped onto the bench, she picked up the ice packs and simply placed them over her ankle, not once questioning where theyâd come from.
Katie shook her head with a chuckle. âAnytime,â she muttered to herself.
Later that week, during a team meeting, Katie noticed Y/N stifling a yawn and blinking rapidly, clearly struggling to keep her focus. She could tell Y/N had been staying up later than usual, maybe trying to brush off whatever was bothering her from the breakup.
The trainerâs voice droned on, and Katie waited until Y/N was busy with her notepad before she nudged her coffee closer to Y/Nâs side of the table. Y/N glanced down, grabbed the mug absentmindedly, and took a long sip.
Katie waited for a glimmer of acknowledgmentâa nod, maybe even a âthanks.â But Y/N just sipped the coffee and jotted down notes, her eyes still fixed on the front of the room.
Katie felt a small surge of irritation but forced herself to push it aside. Why am I even bothering?
Yet, despite her frustration, she found herself continuing with these tiny gestures. An extra granola bar left on Y/Nâs seat before team meetings, an occasional shoulder check to steady her if she stumbled during drills, even switching spots with her in line to help her avoid the players she didnât mesh well with.
Finally, after nearly two weeks of subtle attempts, Katie had reached her breaking point.
During one particularly long cooldown session, Katie found herself stretching next to Y/N. Y/N didnât seem to notice her there, too focused on a knot in her calf muscle. Katie watched as she grimaced, clearly not getting anywhere with it.
Without thinking, Katie moved closer, reaching out to massage the muscle. âYou know,â she said, her voice holding an edge of exasperation, âyou could at least say âthank youâ once in a while.â
Y/N looked up, her brow furrowing. âWhat?â
Katie huffed. âYou seriously havenât noticed, have you?â
âNoticed what?â Y/N said, genuinely perplexed.
Katie shook her head, half-amused, half-irritated. âThe water bottle? The extra ice packs? The coffee that you practically inhaled every team meeting?â
Y/N blinked, realization dawning slowly. Her mouth opened slightly, like she was about to say something, but then closed again. Her gaze dropped, and for the first time, she looked⌠apologetic.
âOh,â she finally muttered, scratching the back of her head awkwardly. âI⌠didnât know.â
Katie rolled her eyes, exasperated. âOf course you didnât.â
Y/N laughed, a small, awkward sound. âWell⌠thanks. I mean, you didnât have to do any of that.â
Katie shrugged, masking the warmth that flickered in her chest. âYeah, well, someoneâs gotta keep you in line.â
Y/N smirked, her usual attitude returning. âOh, is that what youâre doing? Babysitting me?â
âJust think of it as⌠charity work,â Katie shot back with a grin.
They both laughed, the tension between them dissipating, at least for the moment. And though Katie tried to play it cool, she couldnât help feeling that maybeâjust maybeâY/N was starting to see her in a new light.
Katie hadnât planned to tell anyone. But that afternoon, as she sat in the lounge with Beth, she couldnât keep it in any longer. The Arsenal squad was in rare form, laughter echoing around the room as they wound down after another tough practice, and Y/N, as always, had been at the center of Katieâs attention.
Beth nudged her, eyes gleaming mischievously. âYouâve been staring at her all week, Katie. Whatâs going on?â
Katie hesitated, glancing around the room. Most of the team was busy in their own conversations, so she leaned in closer to Beth, muttering, âOkay, fine. But you cannot tell anyone. I⌠might like her.â
Bethâs eyes widened, a huge grin spreading across her face. âOh. My. God.â
Katie shushed her quickly, cheeks blazing. âQuiet! I mean it, Beth. I didnât even want to tell you, but⌠itâs just been eating me up. She doesnât even notice half the things I do for her, and I canât figure out if she hates me or if sheâs just clueless.â
Beth stifled a laugh, bouncing on her toes with excitement. âKatie, thatâs huge! Why havenât you told her?â
Katie sighed, shrugging. âI donât even know if she likes me back. I mean, she barely notices anything I doâshe probably thinks Iâm just being a decent teammate.â
Beth shook her head. âKatie, youâre doing all these things for her! Trust me, she has to have noticed something by now.â
Katie smiled, shaking her head. âYeah, well, donât get your hopes up. This is between you and me, got it?â
Beth nodded, miming zipping her lips. âMy lips are sealed.â
But Bethâs âsealed lipsâ didnât last very long.
Only a few minutes later, Beth noticed Leah, Viv, and several other teammates standing around the table. The temptation was too much for her, and before she could stop herself, she burst out, âKatie just told me she likes Y/N!â
The room fell into a stunned silence.
Katieâs eyes went wide, her face flushing a bright red. âBeth! Are you serious?â she practically hissed, mortified.
But it was too late. Leahâs face lit up with a teasing grin, Viv stifled a laugh, and soon enough, the entire room erupted with whispers and giggles.
Katie felt her heart pounding. She couldnât bear to stay there a second longer. Without a word, she stood up, gave Beth an incredulous glare, and marched out of the room, ignoring the amused looks from her teammates.
Katie headed outside, needing air. She leaned against the wall, letting the cool breeze calm her as she took deep breaths, trying to settle her nerves. How could Beth just blurt it out like that? she fumed internally, running a hand over her face.
She didnât expect anyone to follow her, let alone Y/N.
âKatie?â
Katie froze, her heart skipping a beat as she turned to see Y/N standing a few steps away, her expression a mix of confusion and⌠something else Katie couldnât quite read.
Y/N stepped closer, her voice soft. âDid⌠did Beth mean what she said in there?â
Katie took a breath, her heart racing as she nodded. âYeah. She wasnât supposed to say anything, though. I didnât even know if youâd feel the same way, and now the entire team knows, so if this is weird for youââ
Y/N cut her off with a quiet laugh. âKatie, itâs not weird. Actually⌠Iâve been wanting to tell you something too.â
Katieâs eyes widened, her heart pounding as Y/N closed the gap between them.
âI didnât realize it at first,â Y/N began, looking down, cheeks tinged with a soft blush. âBut over these past few weeks⌠youâve been doing all these little things. Looking out for me in ways no one else does, even when Iâm too dense to see it. And I guess⌠Iâve kind of been waiting for you to say something.â She paused, biting her lip nervously. âI like you too, Katie.â
Katie blinked, almost unable to believe her ears. âYou⌠you do?â
Y/N nodded, smiling a little. âYeah, I do. Even though we were at each otherâs throats when I first joined, I think I just tried to deny what I was feeling. But⌠the way youâve looked out for me, Katie, itâs hard not to feel something.â
They stood there in silence for a moment, the weight of their confessions hanging in the air between them. Then, Katie finally let out a small, relieved laugh. âI was terrified youâd laugh in my face.â
Y/N grinned, taking a small step closer until they were just inches apart. âOh, Iâm laughing, just not in the way you thought.â
With that, Y/N reached for Katieâs hand, intertwining their fingers. Katie felt her heart leap, the warmth of Y/Nâs hand grounding her, making all the embarrassment from earlier disappear.
Inside, the team was still chattering excitedly, clearly wondering what was going on. But as Katie looked into Y/Nâs eyes, she found she didnât care. The only thing that mattered was right here in front of her.
Y/N squeezed her hand, giving her a playful smirk. âNow, what do you say we head back in there and let them have their fun?â
Katie laughed, shaking her head. âFine, but if they start planning our wedding, Iâm holding you accountable.â
Y/N grinned, tugging her hand gently as they turned to head back inside, this time together, ready to face the teamâand whatever teasing awaited themâwith their newfound feelings finally out in the open.
Katie and Y/N paused just outside the team lounge, exchanging sly looks. The buzz of conversation inside was unmistakable; their teammates were clearly still talking about Bethâs big reveal.
Katie raised an eyebrow. âSo, what do you say we make them sweat a bit?â
Y/N smirked. âIâm in. Letâs give them a little show.â
With that, the two of them arranged their faces into tense expressions, putting on their best fake scowls before stepping back into the room.
As soon as they entered, the chatter quieted, and all eyes turned to them. Katie glanced at Y/N with an exaggerated look of disdain.
âYou know what, Y/N? I donât know why I even bothered!â Katie said loudly, throwing her hands up. âTrying to be nice, trying to get along⌠Iâm done with it.â
Y/N crossed her arms, glaring right back. âOh, youâre done? Trust me, Katie, Iâm the one whoâs done. You donât make anything easy, do you?â
Their teammates exchanged wide-eyed looks, glancing at each other nervously. Leah, who had been watching with an expectant grin just moments before, now looked on in alarm.
âUh⌠guys?â Beth said hesitantly, guilt creeping into her voice. âThis wasnât⌠I didnât mean for you two toââ
Katie cut her off, waving a hand. âYou know what, Beth? Maybe next time, donât go blabbing about things that arenât your business.â
Bethâs mouth dropped open, her face a mix of shock and regret. Leah stepped forward, trying to smooth things over. âHey, maybe we can all just, uh, talk this out?â
Y/N rolled her eyes, letting out a dramatic sigh. âKatie and I donât need to talk it out, Leah. Maybe everyone just needs to mind their own business.â
Viv and Alessia looked around nervously, while Beth buried her face in her hands, clearly mortified.
Katie shot Y/N a quick, barely perceptible wink. âYou know what, Y/N? Iâd say youâre insufferable, but I think thatâs what Iâm starting toââ
âLove about you,â Y/N finished, barely able to keep a straight face as she leaned toward Katie with a smirk.
The whole team froze, blinking in confusion as they processed what theyâd just heard. It took only a beat before Y/N and Katie broke into laughter, dropping their âargumentâ and looking around at their stunned teammates.
Katie grinned, finally breaking character. âHonestly, the lot of you are terrible at keeping secrets. Who does Beth blurt my business to the second she hears it?â
Bethâs face went from horror to relief as she realized theyâd been messing with her. âOh, come on! I justâwell, itâs your fault, Katie! Youâre the one whoâs been acting all lovesick and obvious.â
Leah crossed her arms, trying to look stern but failing to hide her grin. âSo, all this fighting was just to get back at us for meddling?â
Y/N shrugged, trying to keep a straight face as she raised an eyebrow. âWhat can we say? This is what happens when people get nosy.â
Alessia let out a dramatic sigh of relief, clutching her chest. âHonestly, I thought you were about to rip each otherâs heads off. That was terrifying!â
Viv laughed, shaking her head. âKatie, you and Y/N put on quite the performance.â
Katie chuckled, leaning back against the wall. âGlad you all enjoyed the show. But seriously, maybe next time let me handle my own feelings, yeah?â
Y/N joined her, their hands brushing together subtly as she added, âYeah. We donât need the whole squad poking around in our business.â
Beth raised her hands in surrender, laughing. âAlright, fine, weâll leave you two alone⌠for now. But I make no promises if you keep acting so obvious!â
Katie smirked, glancing sideways at Y/N. âWell, then, it looks like weâll have to give you even more to talk about, wonât we?â
The team groaned, but the laughter filled the room once more, and Katie and Y/N couldnât help but share a quiet smile. Their secret was out, but they couldnât have cared less. They had each otherâs backsâand theyâd gotten a good laugh at everyoneâs expense in the process.
It had only been a few months since Katie and Y/N had made things official, but to the rest of the Arsenal squad, it felt like they'd been together forever. The two of them were always bickering over the most trivial things, and yet, anyone could see they were absolutely smitten.
This morning, their âmarried coupleâ energy was on full display.
As the team gathered for breakfast at the training camp, Katie spotted Y/N piling her plate with pancakes and shook her head in disbelief.
âSeriously, Y/N?â Katie huffed, grabbing the last banana from the fruit bowl. âDo you ever think of eating something healthy?â
Y/N rolled her eyes, sprinkling powdered sugar on her stack with a flourish. âRelax, Katie, itâs not like Iâm eating this every day.â She took a big bite and chewed dramatically, as if daring Katie to say something else.
Katie squinted at her. âYou say that, but Iâve seen you at every team breakfast loading up on pancakes like theyâre going out of style.â
Y/N shrugged, unbothered. âI need my fuel to keep up with you, donât I?â
Beth, sitting across from them, tried to hide a laugh behind her coffee cup. Leah, on her right, leaned over, whispering loudly enough for everyone to hear, âAre we sure theyâre not already married?â
Katie shot Leah a mock glare. âOh, donât start, Williamson. You should be grateful Iâm trying to keep her in check!â
Y/N scoffed, reaching over to grab a bit of fruit from Katieâs plate. âI think we both know youâre more high-maintenance than me, Katie.â
Katie smacked her hand away, giving her a playful glare. âGet your own fruit!â
Viv, sipping her tea nearby, raised an eyebrow. âThis is seriously like watching my parents fight,â she said, shaking her head with an amused smile.
Katie and Y/N both shot her glares, in perfect sync. âExcuse me?â they said in unison, which only made the team laugh even harder.
Rolling her eyes, Katie sighed dramatically. âAlright, fine. Go ahead, eat all the pancakes. But donât come crying to me when youâre too sluggish to keep up in training.â
Y/N put her hand over her heart, feigning offense. âI would never blame you for my poor training performance, darling.â She winked, causing Katie to flush just a little as the team watched with knowing grins.
Beth nudged Leah, barely able to contain her laughter. âThis is top-tier entertainment.â
After breakfast, the team gathered for a light warm-up, and Y/N, still high on carbs and a little bit of mischief, kept tripping Katie up by tapping her ankles or nudging her playfully whenever Katie wasnât looking.
âWill you stop it?â Katie snapped, swatting Y/Nâs hand away for the third time. âYouâre like a child.â
âOh, come on, you love it.â Y/N smirked, running ahead to avoid Katieâs inevitable comeback. Katie shook her head, unable to hide the smile tugging at her lips.
Later, during a water break, Y/N handed Katie her water bottle, and Katie took it, squinting at her suspiciously. âWhy are you being nice all of a sudden?â
Y/N shrugged innocently. âCanât a girl do something nice for her girlfriend without being accused of having ulterior motives?â
Katie narrowed her eyes, then reluctantly took a sip. âFine. Thanks, I guess.â
Just as she was about to take another drink, Y/N added, âBy the way, I might have accidentally taken a sip out of that earlier.â
Katieâs eyes widened, looking at the bottle with mock horror. âOh, youâre disgusting.â
Y/N gave her a cheeky grin. âYouâre just figuring this out now?â
They continued their playful back-and-forth as the training session wound down, and their teammates could only shake their heads, thoroughly entertained. By now, it was a given: if Y/N and Katie were in the room, a bit of banter was sure to follow.
As they walked back to the locker room, Katie nudged Y/N, speaking just loud enough for only her to hear. âYouâre lucky I love you, you know that?â
Y/N grinned, sliding an arm around her shoulders. âOh, trust me, I know. And I love you too, even when you steal all the bananas.â
Katie scoffed but leaned into her, their usual bickering temporarily replaced by a comfortable silence.
From behind them, Leah whispered to Viv, âI swear, theyâre like an old married couple.â
And for once, neither Y/N nor Katie could argue with that.
The Arsenal squad had been dropping hints all week, not-so-subtly trying to convince either Katie or Y/N to take their relationship to the next level. With every passing day, the nudges and winks became more obvious.
During a team meeting, Leah leaned over to Y/N and whispered, âSo, when are you finally going to propose? Donât you think itâs about time?â
Beth joined in, nudging Katie. âYouâre both head over heels. One of you has to pop the question sometime.â
Katie and Y/N exchanged a quick look, and that was all it took for them to come up with the perfect plan. If their teammates wanted drama, well, theyâd get someâbut not in the way they expected.
That Friday, right after training, the team was lounging in the common room, chatting away. Katie and Y/N entered the room together, but the air between them felt⌠tense. They both wore exaggerated frowns, and the whole squad quickly sensed that something was off.
Katie sighed loudly, folding her arms as she glanced around the room. âYou know what, Y/N? I think we need to talk.â
Y/N crossed her arms as well, turning to face Katie with an indignant glare. âOh, Iâm the one whoâs difficult? Right, because itâs never you, Katie.â
Their teammates immediately exchanged panicked glances, sensing trouble. Vivâs mouth dropped open slightly, and Leah subtly motioned for everyone to keep quiet.
Katie sighed dramatically, rolling her eyes. âHonestly, I donât think I can deal with this anymore.â
âOh, I donât think I can deal with you anymore!â Y/N shot back, her voice getting louder. She placed her hands on her hips and turned to the team. âCan you all believe this? She thinks she can just tell me what to do like Iâm some rookie!â
Bethâs eyes widened in horror as she looked at the others, mouthing, âWhat did we do?â
Leah, clearly caught between intervening and staying out of it, held up her hands. âHey, guys⌠maybe we can talk this out? I mean, no need to⌠break up or anything.â
Katie scoffed. âWhy not, Leah? Maybe itâs exactly what we need. Itâs not like she listens to me anyway!â
Y/N threw her hands in the air, her voice tinged with mock hurt. âFine, Katie! If thatâs how you feel, maybe weâre just better off apart!â
The whole room fell into a stunned silence. Alessia looked horrified, Beth looked guilty, and Viv was on the verge of intervening. Just as they were about to step in, Y/N turned her back to Katie, but not before giving her a tiny, knowing smirk.
Katie matched her smirk and kept her voice stern. âFine. Then letâs be done with it.â
At that, the team could no longer hold back.
Beth jumped up, wide-eyed. âNo, no, no, donât do this! This is all our fault. We pushed you two too hard!â
Leah held her hands out pleadingly. âWeâre sorry! You two are great together. Donât do anything youâll regret.â
Katie and Y/N shared a quick glance, barely containing their laughter. But they kept up the act a little longer.
Y/N shook her head, turning toward the door. âMaybe if everyone minded their own business, we wouldnât be here.â
Alessia let out a desperate sigh, looking at them with puppy-dog eyes. âPlease, just⌠donât break up because of us. You two are like⌠Arsenalâs power couple!â
Finally, Katie and Y/N couldnât hold it in anymore. They both burst into laughter, clutching their stomachs as they doubled over. The rest of the team looked on, baffled.
Y/N, still giggling, looked up at them and said, âRelax, weâre not actually breaking up.â
Katie wiped a fake tear from her eye. âBut maybe you all should consider giving us some space before you end up with real relationship drama!â
The realization dawned on them, and the teamâs horrified expressions turned to annoyed glares.
Beth threw a pillow at them. âYou two are the worst! Do you know how much we panicked?â
Leah shook her head, laughing despite herself. âHonestly, Iâve never been so terrified. Thought you two were about to kill each other!â
Y/N grinned, wrapping an arm around Katie. âSee, maybe this is a lesson. Next time, stay out of our business, alright?â
Katie gave Y/N a wink. âOr we might have to pull something even bigger on you lot.â
Viv crossed her arms, her lips quirked in amusement. âDuly noted. Maybe weâll just let you propose when youâre ready.â
Katie and Y/N exchanged a secret smile, knowing that their real proposal would happen when they were readyânot a moment before. And for now, they were more than happy to keep their teammates on their toes.
It was a crisp autumn day at Arsenal's training ground, the air buzzing with anticipation. It had been exactly a year since Katie and Y/Nâs infamous âbreakupâ prank, and Katie had been quietly planning a real surprise that would catch everyone off guard: a proposal. But, naturally, she couldnât do it without one last prank.
The plan was simple: after a light morning training, Katie would gather everyone, fake a âheated argumentâ with Y/N, and then propose right when things seemed tense enough. With the ring already secured, she felt confident it would be a day no one would forget.
Training went smoothly until Katie called everyone over during the warm-down. Y/N, feigning confusion, trailed behind the team, giving Katie a questioning look as she shot her a conspiratorial wink.
âAll of you, come here!â Katie called, looking as serious as possible, her tone carrying an edge that made everyone straighten up.
The team gathered around, exchanging wary glances. Leah raised an eyebrow, sensing something was off. âKatie, whatâs going on?â
Katie crossed her arms, putting on her best frown. âIâve had enough,â she said, loud enough for everyone to hear.
Y/N widened her eyes in mock alarm, playing her role perfectly. âExcuse me? Youâve had enough?â
Katie jabbed a finger in Y/Nâs direction. âYou never listen, Y/N! I canât deal with this anymore.â
Bethâs eyes went wide as she exchanged a look with Viv, who mouthed, âNot againâŚâ
Y/N crossed her arms and threw her head back. âYouâre really doing this now, Katie? Here, in front of everyone?â
Katie clenched her fists, doing her best to look frustrated. âYes, right now. Because apparently, nothing gets through to you otherwise!â
Leah stepped forward, looking horrified. âGuys⌠please, donât do this again.â
Katie glared at Leah, not breaking character. âStay out of this, Leah. This is between me and Y/N.â
Y/N scoffed, rolling her eyes. âFine, then. Say what you have to say.â
The tension was thick, and the entire squad looked on, barely breathing. Alessia clutched Bethâs arm, her voice barely a whisper. âAre they seriously breaking up again?â
Just as the tension seemed unbearable, Katie sighed deeply and reached into her pocket. âYou know what, Y/N? Thereâs only one thing I have left to say to you.â
Katie took a deep breath, pulled out the small black box, and dropped to one knee. The entire team gasped, jaws dropping in unison as realization hit them.
Katie looked up at Y/N, her eyes softening. âY/N, youâre my everything. I love you more than I can even say. Iâm done pretending, done prankingâwell, after this one, anyway.â She chuckled softly. âWill you marry me?â
Y/Nâs jaw dropped, her eyes wide as she took in the ring in Katieâs hands. Then, after a beat, she broke into a wide grin and nodded, letting a few tears fall. âYes, Katie, of course!â
The team erupted in cheers, jumping and hugging each other in excitement and relief. Beth clapped her hands together, looking overjoyed. âOh my god, this is amazing! Finally!â
Leah had tears in her eyes. âKatie McCabe, you scared us half to death again. But this time⌠I guess we can forgive you.â
Katie, still on her knee, shot them a mischievous grin as she slid the ring onto Y/Nâs finger. âDidnât think Iâd let this go down without a bit of drama, did you?â
Y/N laughed, pulling her fiancĂŠe up into a tight hug. âYouâre an absolute menace, you know that?â
Katie smirked, pressing a quick kiss to Y/Nâs lips. You love it.â
The team huddled around, bombarding them with hugs, questions, and a few well-deserved playful shoves. Viv crossed her arms, feigning annoyance but with a huge grin on her face. âYou two need to stop toying with us!â
Beth wiped a tear away, grinning. âYouâre officially banned from pranks after this. Next time, just get married in private and save us the heart attacks!â
Katie laughed, holding Y/Nâs hand and looking around at her teammatesâher family. âAlright, alright, no more pranks. But now you all owe us a huge celebration.â
And as the room filled with laughter, cheers, and a few well-placed jokes about âprank-ception,â Katie and Y/N shared a look, feeling incredibly lucky to be surrounded by the people who loved them, ready for this next chapter together.
It had been a few weeks since Katieâs dramatic proposal, and things had finally settled down. Y/N wore her engagement ring with pride, and Katie seemed to love showing off her fiancĂŠe at every opportunity. But Y/N couldnât help but think that maybe Katie deserved a little payback for all the times sheâd pulled off elaborate pranks over the last year. So, Y/N hatched a plan of her own.
On a sunny Thursday morning, Y/N decided to start her prank. She went about her morning as usual, chatting with Katie and joking around as they got ready for trainingâbut she purposely left her engagement ring on the dresser. Katie didnât seem to notice at first, so Y/N held back a smirk as she joined her fiancĂŠe in the kitchen for breakfast, acting like nothing was amiss.
Katie, completely oblivious, handed Y/N her coffee and started talking about the teamâs drills for the day. Y/N kept the conversation going, waiting for Katie to catch on, but Katie remained oblivious until they arrived at training.
In the locker room, Y/N made sure to keep her hands visible as she changed, hoping one of the girls would notice first. She could see Katie a few lockers over, chatting with Beth and Leah, so she subtly flashed her left hand to Viv, who immediately noticed.
âY/N⌠whereâs your ring?â Viv asked with a surprised look.
Katieâs head whipped around so fast it could have caused whiplash. She immediately zeroed in on Y/Nâs bare finger, her eyes narrowing.
Y/N feigned a casual shrug. âOh, mustâve forgotten it this morning.â
Katieâs face fell, clearly caught off guard. âForgotten it? How do you⌠forget it?â
Y/N kept a straight face, casually slipping her socks on. âI donât know, Katie. Just did.â
Katie stared at her, brow furrowing, clearly perturbed. âDidnât think it was something youâd forget,â she muttered, crossing her arms.
Beth and Leah exchanged amused looks, sensing the tension. Leah, never one to resist poking the bear, gave Y/N an exaggerated gasp. âY/N, isnât that ring, like, supposed to be your most prized possession?â
Y/N bit back a grin, shrugging as nonchalantly as possible. âI mean, itâs important, sure, but people forget things, right? Just a ring.â
Katieâs mouth dropped open. âJust a ring?!â she repeated, louder than she meant to. âYou do know I picked it out especially for you, right?â
Y/N gave her an innocent look. âOf course I know, babe,â she said sweetly. âIâll just⌠wear it tomorrow, okay?â
Katieâs face went through a rapid cycle of emotionsâdisbelief, annoyance, and, finally, resignation as she turned to Beth. âCan you believe this? I spent weeks picking that ring out, and she just forgets it.â
Beth, barely able to keep from laughing, put a sympathetic hand on Katieâs shoulder. âHey, maybe she just needs some time to get used to it.â
Katie looked back at Y/N, an incredulous expression on her face. âAre you serious, Y/N?â
Y/N stifled her laughter, holding Katieâs gaze. âWhat? Iâm dead serious. Itâs not a big deal. Iâll bring it tomorrow.â
Katie huffed, mumbling under her breath, âIf Iâd known youâd be this casual about itâŚâ
The rest of training was filled with Katie throwing occasional glances Y/Nâs way, muttering to herself whenever she saw that bare finger. The team, now fully aware of what was going on, watched with barely concealed amusement. Katie was wound up, and Y/N could tell she was doing everything she could not to bring it up again in front of the team.
After training, as they headed back to the locker room, Katie finally pulled Y/N aside, her voice low and urgent.
âAlright, whatâs going on, Y/N? Are you⌠are you having second thoughts?â
Y/Nâs eyes widened, and she could see genuine worry in Katieâs gaze. Immediately, she softened, realizing she might have taken the prank a little too far. But the teasing part of her couldnât resist one last push.
âSecond thoughts?â she said, raising an eyebrow. âMaybe about whoâs better at pranksâŚâ
Katie blinked, processing what Y/N had just said, then narrowed her eyes, realization dawning. âYou⌠youâre pranking me?!â
Y/N laughed, reaching out to take Katieâs hand. âGuilty. Thought you could use a taste of your own medicine. Didnât like thinking Iâd forgotten the ring, did you?â
Katieâs face turned from annoyance to a playful smirk. âYouâre unbelievable, you know that?â
Y/N grinned, pulling her fiancĂŠe close. âThatâs why you love me.â
Katie sighed, rolling her eyes with a reluctant smile. âFine, fine. But donât ever forget that ring againâor Iâll find a way to make you pay for it.â
Y/N laughed, bringing her hand up to show the ring sheâd stashed in her pocket the whole time. âI could never actually forget it. Just needed to remind you that I can keep up with your pranks any day.â
Katie leaned in, pressing a quick kiss to her lips. âNoted. But next time, just wear the ring. I like showing off my fiancĂŠe.â
As they headed back to the team, hand in hand, they could hear the cheers and applause of their meddlesome teammates, whoâd been watching the entire exchange. Katie just rolled her eyes, but Y/N squeezed her hand, grateful for every second of their ridiculous love.
A quiet evening had settled over London, and for the first time in what felt like ages, Katie and Y/N had the night all to themselves. No pranks, no training early in the morningâjust the two of them, sprawled out on the couch, a bottle of wine between them, with an old movie neither of them was paying much attention to playing softly in the background.
Y/N swirled her wine glass and leaned back, a lazy smile on her face. "Remember when you hated me? How I 'ruined' every Arsenal training session?"
Katie snorted, nearly spilling her wine as she nudged Y/N with her shoulder. "Correction: you ruined my training sessions. And yes, I remember. Loud and clear."
Y/N rolled her eyes, chuckling. "The first time we trained together, you went for my ankles like Iâd stolen your dog."
Katie threw her head back laughing. âYouâre not far off. In my defense, you were showing off a Northern Ireland crest tattoo , and I was not ready to see that at my club.â
Y/N raised an eyebrow. âAnd that justified tripping me every five minutes?â
Katie smirked, leaning a little closer. âYou kept saying youâd 'walk right back to Ireland' if I tripped you one more time. I was just⌠testing your resolve.â
Y/N let out a fake gasp, pressing a hand to her chest. "Oh, so you were helping me develop mental toughness?â
Katie grinned. "Exactly. You should be thanking me."
Y/N laughed, shaking her head. âYou were ruthless, McCabe. Always muttering something under your breath. I thought youâd genuinely curse me every time I touched the ball.â
Katie shot her a playful glare. âOh, believe me, I was close. I couldnât stand seeing you on the pitch. And you didnât make it easy with your cheeky little comments about the âinferior sideâ either.â
Y/N snickered, taking a sip of her wine. âI donât know why I did that, honestly. Probably because of the look on your face every time. It was priceless.â
Katie rolled her eyes, but her expression softened as she looked over at Y/N. âThe thing is⌠somewhere along the way, I kinda started to look forward to those arguments. It was the highlight of my day. Even if it drove me mad.â
Y/N smiled, her eyes warm as she studied Katieâs face. âMe too. I never thought Iâd actually like you, let alone⌠you know, love you.â
Katie softened, a little smile tugging at her lips. âYouâre pretty impossible not to love.â
Y/Nâs smile grew wider, and she nudged Katieâs leg with her foot. âCareful, youâre getting sentimental on me.â
Katie laughed, leaning into her fiancĂŠeâs shoulder. âFine, no more mushy talk. But Iâm glad we got past all that rivalry stuff. I couldnât imagine my life without you now.â
They both fell silent, their gazes drifting to the city lights through the window. After a moment, Katie broke the quiet.
âDo you think weâd still hate each other if we played on different teams?â
Y/N pondered it, tapping her fingers on her glass thoughtfully. âProbably. But Iâd also be wondering what you were up to, wondering if youâd still get all mad whenever I got near the goal.â
Katie chuckled, shaking her head. âKnowing us, weâd probably be rivals forever, but the kind that secretly roots for each other.â
They both smiled at the thought, and Katie leaned closer, resting her head against Y/Nâs shoulder, intertwining their fingers. The silence between them wasnât awkward; it was comfortable, the kind of peace that comes when youâve been through enough ups and downs together to appreciate the simple moments.
Katie eventually broke the silence again, her voice a soft murmur. âWeâve come a long way, havenât we?â
Y/N gave her hand a gentle squeeze. âWe really have.â
For a while, they just sat there, sharing the quiet, letting the past fade as they enjoyed the present, right where they were supposed to beâtogether.
The stadium was buzzing as the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland lined up across from each other. The energy was electric, and the fans were on their feet, ready for an intense ninety minutes of international rivalry. But neither team was as fired up as Katie and Y/N.
Katie met Y/Nâs gaze from across the pitch, her eyes narrowed with a fierce, competitive glint. Y/N shot her a smirk, giving a small, taunting wave. Katie rolled her eyes but couldnât hide the tiny smile tugging at her lips.
âDonât get too comfortable,â Katie muttered as she jogged past Y/N in warm-ups, a hint of playfulness in her voice. âWeâre taking you down today.â
Y/N snorted, tilting her head. âGood luck with that, McCabe. Northern Irelandâs ready for anything you throw at us.â
The game kicked off with both teams giving their all, and Katie and Y/N held nothing back. The crowd watched in awe as Katie, with her usual intensity, threw herself into tackles and pushed her team forward at every opportunity. Y/N matched her, intercepting passes, making blocks, and turning every corner into a chance to push Northern Ireland on the offensive.
There was a moment in the first half when they clashed, literally. Katie went for a sliding tackle, and Y/N dodged it just in time, but the two ended up shoulder to shoulder, glaring at each other with intense, unwavering stares.
Katie huffed out a laugh, her voice just low enough for Y/N to hear, âYouâre not getting past me, Y/N.â
Y/N smirked, leaning in just a bit. âWeâll see, Katie. Youâre not as tough as you think.â
Katieâs eyes narrowed, and for the briefest moment, Y/N thought she saw a twinkle of amusement there. âKeep dreaming, Y/L/N,â Katie shot back before sprinting after the ball.
As the game wore on, Northern Ireland managed to secure a goal, and the crowd went wild. Y/N, barely containing her excitement, ran back down the pitch, purposefully catching Katieâs eye with a smirk. Katie clenched her fists, determination blazing, and pushed her team even harder.
In the final minutes, with both sides exhausted, Katie got the ball in midfield and went on a run, weaving past Y/N and narrowly missing a goal with a powerful shot that hit the crossbar. Y/N bit back a sigh of relief as the whistle finally blew, signaling the end of the match.
Northern Ireland had won.
Katie, catching her breath, stayed on her side of the pitch, hands on her hips, looking frustrated but undeniably proud. Y/N jogged over to her, eyes gleaming as she slowed down right in front of Katie.
âGuess the best team won, huh?â Y/N teased, her smile mischievous.
Katie rolled her eyes, trying to hold back a grin. âDonât start, Y/N. Weâll get you next time.â
Y/N raised an eyebrow, leaning in closer. âYou sure about that? Looked like your team was working pretty hard to keep up.â
Katie huffed, crossing her arms in mock annoyance. âYouâre lucky weâre off the pitch right now, or Iâd wipe that smirk off your face.â
Y/N chuckled, stepping even closer until there was barely any space between them. âOh, would you now? Guess weâll never know.â Her voice softened as she nudged Katieâs shoulder, eyes softening as she spoke. âYou played amazing, Katie. I mean it.â
Katieâs faux-scowl melted as she looked back at Y/N, a smile breaking through. âYou too, babe. Guess we really do bring out the best in each other, huh?â
Y/N nodded, her heart swelling. She glanced around to make sure no one was watching and then quickly pulled Katie into a hug, burying her face in Katieâs shoulder for a brief moment. Katie hugged her back just as tightly, whispering, âI love you, but Iâm still mad you won.â
Y/N laughed, pulling back with a grin. âYouâll survive. And besides, this just means I get bragging rights all month.â
Katie groaned, rolling her eyes but unable to hide her smile. âFine, fine. But donât get too used to it.â
They exchanged one last look before heading back to their respective teams, but both knew theyâd be right back in each otherâs arms as soon as they could slip away.
Back at the hotel that night, after a post-match dinner and some inevitable teasing from teammates, Y/N finally managed to catch Katie alone in the hallway. Katie smirked as soon as she saw her, folding her arms.
âDonât think this means Iâm letting you off easy. You mightâve won today, but Iâll be back,â Katie said, trying to keep her tone serious but failing to hide the sparkle in her eyes.
Y/N grinned, stepping close and resting her hand on Katieâs arm. âIâm looking forward to it, McCabe. I wouldnât want it any other way.â
Katie gave her a teasing glare. âJust you wait, Y/L/N. Next time, itâll be me teasing you.â
Y/N laughed, pressing a quick kiss to Katieâs cheek before pulling her into a hug. âBring it on. But until then, youâll just have to deal with the fact that Iâm the winner.â
Katie groaned but hugged her tighter. âYeah, yeah. Enjoy it while it lasts, Y/N. Iâm coming for that win next time.â
They held each other close, the rivalry left on the field as they enjoyed the comfort of each otherâs arms. All the banter, all the competitionâit only made this moment feel even sweeter.
Three years had flown by, and Y/N and Katieâs lives had changed in ways theyâd once only imagined. Now, not only were they partners in life and still teammates on Arsenalâs pitch, but they had a little girl, Ava, who had quickly become the light of their lives. With Katieâs fiery attitude and Y/Nâs quiet determination, Ava had inherited quite the personalityâand a strong set of lungs to match.
The whole team had gathered at the park for an impromptu picnic. As Ava toddled around, squealing in delight as she chased the teamâs soccer balls, Katie and Y/N watched on with quiet smiles, occasionally casting each other amused glances.
Leah, watching Ava attempt to kick a ball with all her might (and only managing to send it rolling gently forward), chuckled and leaned over to Katie with a smirk. âSoâŚhave you two decided yet?â she asked mischievously.
Katie squinted at her, confused. âDecided what?â
Leah tilted her head toward Ava, grinning. âWhich team Avaâs going to support, Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland?â
Y/N laughed, rolling her eyes. âOh, donât get her started, Leah. Sheâs already making plans.â
Katie nudged Y/N, giving her a mock glare. âOi, plans? Sheâs obviously going to support Irelandâmy Ireland.â
âOh really?â Y/N shot back, folding her arms, a playful challenge in her eyes. âSheâs as much my daughter as yours, Katie. Northern Irelandâs got plenty to offer.â
Katie scoffed, placing her hands on her hips. âName one thing Northern Irelandâs got that beats a Republic of Ireland jersey with âMcCabeâ on the back.â
Y/N grinned. âHow about an NI jersey with Y/L/N on it?â She glanced over to see Ava waving the soccer ball at Leah, who was playing along by dramatically pretending she couldnât catch it. âSee? Sheâs already got Leah wrapped around her finger. An arsenal fan, through and through at least.â
Katie gasped in mock offense, clutching her chest. âLeah, you traitor!â
Leah shrugged, holding back laughter. âHey, donât drag me into this! Besides,â she teased, winking at Katie, âeveryone knows Iâm Avaâs favorite. So, maybe sheâll grow up as a Lioness.â
Katie rolled her eyes. âLioness? Not a chance. Youâll seeâfirst time she sees her mama in green, sheâll be cheering with pride.â She reached over and scooped Ava up, spinning her around, and Ava squealed with delight. âRight, Ava? Youâll wear green like your mama, wonât you?â
Avaâs tiny fists pumped into the air as she babbled excitedly, though neither Katie nor Y/N could make out a single word. But Avaâs enthusiasm was enough to make Katie beam, certain sheâd just gotten the confirmation she wanted.
Y/N laughed, crossing her arms and shaking her head. âWeâll see about that, Katie. Iâve got time to win her over.â
Katie turned back, smirking. âOh, itâs on, Y/L/N. But donât say I didnât warn you when youâre dealing with a McCabe superfan in a few years.â
The two shared a laugh, but as Katie pulled Y/N in close, their teasing faded into warm smiles. Ava squirmed between them, clearly ready to return to her soccer ball, and Katie set her down with a grin. They watched Ava charge toward Leah, babbling in her own language as she went, and Katie squeezed Y/Nâs hand.
âGuess weâll just have to wait and see,â Katie murmured, her voice soft and full of affection.
Y/N leaned her head against Katieâs shoulder, eyes on their little girl. âYeah, but whatever team she ends up cheering for, sheâll always be our little star.â
Katie nodded, resting her head against Y/Nâs. âOur little Avaâfuture football legend, no matter the color.â
As Ava squealed with joy, Leah joined the couple, shaking her head in amusement. âIâll say this, thoughâAvaâs got the luckiest parents in the world. And if weâre being honest,â she added with a grin, âsheâs going to be one heck of a player no matter which team she roots for.â
Katie and Y/N exchanged a proud smile, both knowing that Leah was absolutely right. Their daughter was already shaping up to be just as fierce and full of heart as her mothers.
Seventeen years had passed, and the day Y/N and Katie had always joked aboutâbut secretly dreadedâhad finally arrived. Their daughter, Ava, now a young football sensation in her own right, was making her England debut. England. Of all teams. She was a Lioness.
As the stadium buzzed with excitement, Katie sat grumbling in the stands, arms folded across her chest. Y/N was next to her, frowning at the England flag waving on the big screen as it showcased Avaâs name. Meanwhile, Leah, sitting on the other side of Y/N, was practically bouncing with pride, her England scarf wrapped around her shoulders.
Katie leaned toward Y/N, muttering in a voice loud enough for Leah to hear, âUnbelievable. How did we let this happen?â
Y/N sighed, shaking her head. âYears of her godmother whispering in her ear, thatâs how.â
Leah laughed, unfazed by their grumbling. âOh, come on, you two! You canât deny sheâs right where she belongs.â
Katie scoffed, her arms still crossed tightly. âI canât believe Iâm about to cheer for England. My own daughter⌠in a white jersey!â
Leah rolled her eyes, turning to Y/N. âCome on, back me up here, Y/N. Youâve been through her endless debating, the sleepless nights before choosing. You know she loves this team.â
Y/N groaned, torn between her pride for Ava and her allegiance to her own roots. âI know, I know. But itâs still surreal, Leah. Our little Ava couldâve chosen any team.â
Katie shot Y/N a look, nodding in agreement. âExactly. Republic of Ireland was right there.â
Leah laughed again, shaking her head. âOh, come on. We all knew from the time she was little that sheâd choose England. I mean, look at her godmother.â She winked and pointed proudly to herself, her England scarf gleaming under the stadium lights.
Katie rolled her eyes. âYeah, exactly. Look what weâre stuck with. This is what happens when you let Leah be a godmother.â
Y/N chuckled, nudging Katieâs shoulder. âOh, stop it. Itâs not the worst thing in the world. At least sheâs playing for someoneâs team here.â
Katie huffed, waving her hand dismissively. âFine, but Iâm blaming Leah for the rest of my life.â
At that moment, the players ran out onto the field, and Avaâs name flashed on the jumbotron. Leah jumped to her feet, clapping and cheering, while Katie and Y/N joined in, though their clapping was far less enthusiastic.
As Ava glanced up toward the stands, she spotted them, giving a big grin and a wave. Katie softened just a bit, nudging Y/N. âLook at that face. Sheâs having the time of her life, isnât she?â
Y/N smiled, a mix of pride and amusement in her eyes. âShe is. And she looks just like you when you played your first match. WellâŚminus the green jersey.â
Katie rolled her eyes but couldnât help the smile spreading across her face. âAlright, alright. I admit it. Iâm proud. But Iâll be even prouder if she scores against Leahâs team.â
Leah laughed again, clearly enjoying every second of this. âIn your dreams, Katie. Avaâs going to make you eat those words when she scores her first England goal!â
As the whistle blew, the game kicked off, and for all their grumbling, Katie and Y/N couldnât take their eyes off their daughter, watching her every move with a mixture of awe and pride.
And when Ava did finally scoreâher very first goal in an England shirtâthe stadium erupted in cheers, with Leah leaping to her feet, shouting, âThatâs my goddaughter!â
Katie let out a groan but stood up, clapping nonetheless, and muttered under her breath, âFine⌠maybe England isnât all bad.â
Y/N squeezed Katieâs hand, her eyes misty as she watched Ava celebrate with her teammates. âYeah, maybe not. Just this once.â
Leah smirked, her face filled with triumph. âI knew you two would come around eventually.â
Katie shot her a playful glare. âDonât get too smug, Leah. She may be wearing white now, but sheâll still always be our daughter first.â
Leah threw an arm around both of them, laughing as the three of them watched Ava jog back to the halfway line, glowing with pride and excitement. âLucky for her, sheâs got the best of both worlds.â
Y/N and Katie exchanged a look, finally giving in and laughing along. For all their teasing and the years of rivalry, nothing could change the love they felt for their daughter, no matter what colors she wore.
After the international break the transfer season opened up, and with it a whole other can of worms.
Avaâs transfer to Chelsea had been the talk of the league for weeks, but when the official announcement dropped, it hit harder than any of them expected. Ava McCabe-Y/L/N, a product of the Arsenal academy, and the daughter of two Arsenal legends, was making the switch to their fiercest rival.
When Katie and Y/N arrived at the pub, the mood was thick with tension, and every player they passed wore expressions ranging from shock to outright betrayal. By the time they reached the tables, the team was buzzing with mixed emotions.
Katie put her hands on her hips, eyeing everyone. âAlright, everyone, calm down.â
Leah, looking stunned and visibly heartbroken, crossed her arms and let out a deep sigh. âCalm down? Your daughterâwho weâve all practically raised at this clubâis now playing for Chelsea, Katie. Chelsea!â
Y/N let out a small laugh, though it held a hint of nervousness. âOh, believe me, we didnât see this one coming, either. You think weâre happy about this?â
Beth groaned dramatically. âHow could she do this to Leah? How could she do this to me? To all of Arsenal? And, uh, to you two, of course,â she added, glancing apologetically at Katie and Y/N.
Katie grumbled, crossing her arms with a huff. âTell me about it. But weâve got to support her, donât we?â
The room erupted in laughter, though it was more out of disbelief than humor. Viv, shaking her head, muttered, âThis is unreal. She grew up at that club. Arsenal is in her blood.â
Y/N sighed, shrugging helplessly. âWe thought so, too. But sheâs her own person, and she wanted to follow her own path.â She exchanged a look with Katie, who looked like she was fighting an internal battle of pride and frustration.
âHer own path at Chelsea,â Katie scoffed, though a small smile broke through as she shook her head. âA part of me canât help but respect her for it.â
Leah threw her hands up in mock surrender. âOh, donât tell me youâre on board with this already!â
Katie chuckled, giving in. âNo, no, of course not! I still canât believe it. But we both know Avaâs always had a mind of her own.â
Y/N gave Katie a soft nudge. âSheâs a McCabeâshe was bound to do something this dramatic at some point.â
The entire locker room dissolved into laughter, with Katie shaking her head in defeat. âAlright, alright. I suppose she gets that from me.â
âAbsolutely,â Leah said, wiping away a tear of laughter. âBut you two better not show up in Chelsea blue any time soon, or Iâm done.â
Katie threw her hands up in surrender. âRelax, Leah. Weâre Arsenal through and through.â Then, leaning back with a smirk, she added, âThough, if you ask Ava, she might have other ideas.â
The room filled with laughter again, with the team gradually accepting that, while Avaâs decision was shocking, it wasnât the end of the world. Sheâd always be their Ava, even if she wore the wrong colors. And though Katie and Y/N werenât thrilled with her choice, they couldnât help but feel a little proud of her fierce independenceâeven if it meant she was now the product of their greatest rival.

Bench Naps
Teen!R x Arsenal
Warnings: general sickness things.
Notes: Here you go @scribblesofagoonerr 1k words
âOh honey, we arenât in a good way are we?â Steph said as she slipped into the seat next to you, you immediately curled into her side, the team had been messaged by Katie and Caitlin warning them about your sickness and they weren't wrong with just how sick you were. You had just about every flu symptom. Sore throat, body aches, pounding head, blocked nose. Despite your raging fever, your body shivered, Your body ached, âhave you had some medicine,â Steph asked you, causing Kyra to groan.
âYes, and Katie and Caitlin make her a smoothie so she ate something, even though she did almost throw it back up and they put tissues in her pockets and some more medicine for later, as well as her asthma puffer,â Kyra complained.
âIf youâd just stayed at your own house-â you began to croak out but a cough interrupted you, causing Steph to hand you some water, Kyra just huffing and walking away, however the water didnât help and very quickly Steph was pulling out your puffer.
âOkay, deep breaths, thatâs it,â Steph said before placing it in your mouth and pushing the cylinder down, dispensing the medication, hoping to prevent a full blown asthma attack.
-
You stumbled slightly as you stood up out of your seat, the dizziness threatening to send you to the ground, after a short break of standing still and with Steph's help you managed to make it into the locker room having stayed on your own two feet for the whole way, before collapsing back in your locker, staying there until it was time for the game to start
-
You sat in your seat on the bench sideways, next to Lia who was on the bench for the first half of the game. You were curled up in a little ball, you lent your side into the back of the chair and your head lolled against your knees and the chair. Your body was wrapped in one of the sub puffer jackets, and yet you still felt cold. Katie, still feeling very concerned about your less than usual behaviour, decided to donate her jacket to you, placing it over your body before placing a kiss on your forehead, wincing at the heat still radiating off your body despite the additional dose of medicine the medics had given you. Your asthma puffer along with a spacer sat between you and Lia, the medics deciding it was best if you had a spacer after your episode on the bus, your water bottle sat alongside it.
-
Waking up and looking at the clock youâd realised you mustâve fallen asleep, there was only 5 minutes left of the first half. Suddenly your body was overtaken by extreme nausea and you jumped out of your seat, causing the jacket Katie gave you to fall to the ground, ignoring the black spots developing in your vision you stumbled your way into the locker room, trying to save yourself the embarrassment of throwing up in front of a sold out Joie Stadium, you managed to find yourself a bin in the locker room, hunching over it you began to lose the very little amount of food youâd had that day.
âYouâre okay y/n/n, itâs okay, just let it all out,â Lia said as her hand rubbed your back, sheâd obviously followed you into the locker room.
-
Leah was being subbed off at half time, and offered to sit next to you until she realised you had a sick bag with you, and she completely retreated from that offer, sitting as far away as possible on the bench, she was known for not having the strongest stomach on the team. So you ended up next to Katie, sheâd managed to convince you to lie down, your head on her lap, the rest of your body curled up in your seat, the sick bag now laying beside your head. You very quickly fell asleep again, your body absolutely exhausted from trying to fight off the bug you had, youâd stayed asleep for the whole of the second half, and Katie decided to carry you to the bus immediately after the final whistle was blown, hoping to avoid the fans and keep you asleep. Katie had been successful in her mission, you having stayed asleep for the whole trip home, slightly raising the concerns of the older girls, however the medics telling them it was good, it was a sign your body was fighting off your illness. Katie decided to just carry you to the car, placing you in the front seat as it was easier, Caitlin and Kyra sitting in the back, they dropped Kyra off to her own house on the way home, knowing you would prefer her not to be around due to her pest-y habits.
âHey chicken, can you wake up for me?â Caitlin asked you, noticing you were half awake now.
âCait,â you mumbled.
âYeah Iâm here, let's get you inside, Katie is running you a bath,â
âmâkayâ you replied slightly incoherently, and Caitlin helped you inside, supporting most of your body weight.Â
-
You tossed and turned, not being able to fall asleep, feeling too sick to do so. So you decided to venture out to the living room where you knew Katie and Caitlin were.Â
âEverything okay chick?â Katie asked concerned as you entered the living room, clutching your pillow to your chest and one of your blankets trailing behind you,Â
âI canât sleep,â you replied tearfully.
âThatâs okay chicken, how bout you come lie down here next to me and see if that helps,â you nodded before making your way over to her, Katie took your pillow and angled it up against her thigh before you lied down your blanket wrapping around you, with the familiar presence of Katie and Caitlin and Katieâs comforting hand on your back you were able to drift back asleep again.

Our kids | Katie McCabe x Reader
Where a miscommunication leads to no one being able to watch your kids while you'll be at work and Katie is about to head to camp
A/n: thank you @totaly-obsessed for your help with this one!
Woso masterlist | Words: 1.5k
-----
You were enjoying a peaceful evening at home with your wife, Katie. Your kids were spending the night at your parentsâ house, giving you a rare opportunity for some one-on- one time, which you desperately needed before Katie would leave for camp in two weeks.
Though you adored your kids and the little family you had built, the constant energy of four kids could be overwhelming. There were Evan and Avery, your children from before you met Katie, and Erin and Riley, the children you and Katie had together.
Raising Evan and Avery on your own with the help of your parents had been challenging, but you had mastered the life of a single mom and thoroughly enjoyed being a mom. When you met Katie, it felt like a new world opened up for you. She was the loving, caring, and supportive partner and parent you had always dreamed of starting a family with.
While the quietness of the evening was nice, it was to no surprise that the quietness got interrupted. Your phone rang loudly throughout the room, you picked up right away when you noticed that it was your mom. âHi love, don't worry, the kids are alright.â Her instant reassurance was something you deeply appreciated.
âHi mom, that's great to hear. Having fun with the kids?â Your mom tells you a little bit about their evening and that the four of them are currently watching a movie with your dad. âThe reason for my call is because I wanted to check something. The kids were talking about going to Ireland for one of Katieâs games next month, and I wanted to check with you if that meant Katie would be going into camp soon.â
âYeah, Katie is leaving for camp in two weeks.â You answer, not yet aware of the reason that needed a call. âAlright, I donât want to assume anything, love, but your father and I will be out of town the same two weeks that Katie will be in camp. Maybe you have made other arrangements, I just wanted to check, cause usually we help you out with the kids when Katie is away.âÂ
You listen to your mom talk with widened eyes, had you not spoken with your parents about this trip? You couldâve sworn you had, but you had been so busy with work that you might just think you had done it already. âEh mom, can I call you back?â The new information got you stressed instantly, and you wanted to figure it out and not make it your parentâs problem.
âWhatâs wrong?â Katie asks, curious what got you so shocked. âBabe, I forgot to ask my parents to help me with the kids when youâre in camp, and I totally forgot they are going to be out of town for the duration of it.â Before Katie could jump in, you continued. âI can make it work. I raised two kids on my own, I can handle four for a couple of weeks.â
Thatâs the moment Katie feels like she has to step in. âDarling, while I have no doubt that you could handle all four, you donât have to. Youâre not on your own anymore, we can figure something out together.âÂ
âSorry, sometimes I forget I donât have to do it all alone anymore.â Katie smiled and took your hands in hers. âItâs okay, I understand. But remember that just because I am away on camp, doesnât mean those arenât my kids anymore. You will always have me, and so will they.âÂ
Once you calmed down a little, Katie grabbed her phone. âI have an idea, let me make a call to see if it is an option. I will be right back, okay? No stressing in the meantime!â She pecks your cheek and moves into the kitchen to make the call.
âAlright, I called Eileen, and my idea is definitely an option. I can take the kids with me to camp, that way you wonât have to worry about finding someone to watch them when youâre at work. Russel is bringing her kiddo with her, so they already arranged for childcare, and they said it wouldnât be a problem to add a couple more kids to that. What do you think?â
You let the plan settle in your mind for a moment, thinking of the logistics. âOkay that could work. So then Evan, Avery, and I will meet you, Erin, and Riley in Dublin the day weâd all come to Ireland?â
Katie looks at you with a face full of confusion. âWhat? No, I meant taking all of them. Did I say something that made it seem like I would only bring half the kids?â You thought for a moment. She hadnât, but you had just assumed sheâd only take the youngest two. âI donât know, but are you sure about taking Evan and Avery as well?â
Your wife had dealt with a fair share of your trauma surrounding being left with your kids from your previous partner, so she had a feeling what was happening in your mind right now. âDarling, I am very sure. Evan and Avery are as much my kids as Erin and Riley are. When I talk about the kids, I always mean all four of them.â Katie looked your face over and knew exactly what her next move would be.Â
âI mean they even look like me, no? Same smiles and everything!â Her words painted a smile on your face. âHa, very funny.â Katie wiggles her eyebrows, âMust be if youâre laughing!â Your face turns back to serious. âI love you. Thank you for being the best mom to our kids, and the best partner to me.â Your wife leans in to kiss you. âYou are the best mom though.â
You laid back into Katieâs arms on the couch as you called back your mom to tell them your plans, with the request that she wouldnât tell the kids. You wanted to tell them yourselves.
âIâm really looking forward to this camp.â Katie said after you hung up the phone. âI canât wait to take the kids along and show them more of the behind the scenes. I think they will love it.â You nod in agreement, âI think they will too. They always love visiting you at Arsenal, I think they will have a great time seeing you at Ireland camp.â
âPlus, it will also be nice to have some time to myself as well. You know I love our kids more than anything, but since Iâll be working ahead with work to be able to take a few days off to visit you, it will be nice to come home to a quiet house and recharge. Not having to worry about who will watch the kids, is already making me feel more relaxed.â Katie hugged you a little closer. âYou deserve it, darling. We are a team, and weâll always find a way to make things work together.â
As you had expected, the kids were having the time of their lives at camp. Katie sent you videos and pictures any chance she got, and every night before bed, you would video call with all of them.Â
The days flew by, and before you knew it, you were on your way to Ireland yourself. You took a taxi from the airport to the training grounds, where Katie had the kids all together waiting for your arrival.Â
âI see Mama!â Avery was the first to spot you and ran towards you, with Evan on her heels. They made it into your open arms at the same time. âOh, Iâve missed you so much!â You hug them close. You hear more little feet rushing your way and look up with a big smile on your face. âMore kids that Iâve missed so dearly! Come here you two.â You lift both of them up in the air, while the oldest two cling to your legs.
âWelcome to Ireland, baby!â Katie moves closer to you, âYouâve been missed as well.â She leans in for a kiss between the bundle of kids surrounding you. âItâs great to be here. The quietness was nice the first two days, but the rest of the time I missed all the crazy.âÂ
âMama, we're not crazy!â Erin chimes in. âHmm I donât know about that little miss.â You start tickling her side and she starts squealing, âSounds pretty crazy to me, donât you think babe?â Katie watched the interaction with a fond smile, âThe perfect amount of crazy.â
The next few days you got to spend as a family all together. You had intended to only stay for the home game, but since it was so quiet at home you had worked ahead more and asked your boss for some extra time off. Meaning you were able to travel with everyone to the away game as well.Â
All in all, it worked out perfectly. And Katie once again proved to you that the two of you were a team and would always work together to figure everything out. You werenât alone raising your kids, and you would never be again with Katie by your side.

close to you | k.m./c.f.
katie mccabe x caitlin foord x child!reader | 2.9k | how your mammy's jersey's came to be on your wall and you asking caitlin to add hers next to your mammy's
ËË°â˘*â this is part of my new little starfish universe. this was the idea that started the thoughts of this whole universe tbh. i always thought this would be a cute little concept so i hope you all love it like i do
You didnât like the dark, so your mammy got you a nightlight and made sure it was turned on and working every time before she went to bed. But sheâd always wake up to you there in her bed.
You didnât like the silence of the night, or the occasional creeks of the house, so your mammy got a little echo dot for your room. Connecting it with the house so she could make sure soft music was playing to drown out the noises of the house. But sheâd still always wake up to you in her bed the next morning.
You were convinced that something scary was in your wardrobe or under your bed, so your mammy would check every night before she went to bed. But sheâd always wake up to you crying out for her. When she took the doors off your wardrobe and added fairy lights to keep the dark areas light and when she still woke up to you either crying out for her or in her bed, she didnât know what else to do.
Katie didnât know when she let you sleeping in her bed become a habit but she knew that it was one that would be tough to break. She liked having you close, knowing you were safe if you were in her arms, but she knew that you had to try sleeping in your own bed before you were both too dependent on each other.
Having tried everything Katie could think of, she almost gave up temporarily on trying to get you to stay in your own room overnight. Almost, until you basically gave her the answer that she had needed.
Another morning youâd woken up in your mammyâs arms after sneaking into her bed during the night again, âGood morning my little starfish,â Katie brushed your baby hairs out of your face, smiling down at you.
âMorninâ mammy,â Your voice, small and soft, only just having woken up, you cuddled more into your mammy. Though you clung onto her when you felt Katie start to move you off of her. Your mammy laughed a little, youâd always do this thinking that you were able to keep her down and stop her from moving. You might be little but you always had this determination.
âI like being close to you mammy,â Your words continued to play in Katieâs mind while she continued to do your hair, until an idea finally appeared, her final attempt at getting you to stay in your own room overnight.
âWhich oneâs would you like, starfish?â Your mammy had laid out a few of her Ireland jerseys and some of her Arsenal jerseys in front of you.
It was a hard decision, because you liked all that had mammyâs name and number on them and all of them had that on them. Eventually you had decided on one Ireland and one Arsenal, the Arsenal jersey being from the recent season since theyâd also given you your own mini Arsenal kit so that one you chose would match that.
The next day when youâd come home from spending the day with Beth, Viv and Myle, you hugged your mammy tightly, âStarfish, Iâve got a surprise for you,â
âWhat is it mammy?â Katie carried you to your bedroom, covering your eyes before you both entered the room. Your eyes widened when you saw your newly decorated walls with mammyâs jerseys, âLooks so cool,â You wiggled out of Katieâs arms and climbed onto your bed to get a closer look.
âGotta be careful starfish, can look but donât touch them,â Katie was quick to say when she noticed your little hand reaching up to touch the frames that the jerseys were in, âNow, even while you sleep, Iâll always be close to you,â Your mammy kneeled on the bed behind you, wrapping her arms around you.
âI love you mammy,âÂ
âI love you starfish,â
Your mammyâs jerseys on the wall was the perfect solution to you sleeping in your own bed, though every now and then when youâd have a bad dream youâd still sneak in or cry out for her. But for most nights since you loved sleeping in your own room.Â
The jerseys you had on your wall were quite important to you. Every night since their addition, youâd say goodnight to each one and look up at them while falling asleep. It gave you a sense of comfort that helped you each day and only because they are your mammyâs and she gave you that sense of comfort and safety normally each day.
It was always you and mammy and mammyâs friends. âIt takes a villageâ well your village was arsenal, you were being raised there. There wasnât a day where your little self wasnât running around with the arsenal girls. You didnât have favourites but you did have those that youâd gravitate towards.Â
Laia, Kyra and Vic would always keep up with your energy and pull you in to cause mischief around the training grounds. Beth, and Viv, had Myle and that was an instant win in your eyes. Caitlin, well Caitlin was your mammyâs best friend who was always around and then became your mammyâs best friend who was always at your house and now also stayed there.
Katie was worried about how youâd react to her relationship with Caitlin and how it might change the dynamic in the house, but she honestly had nothing to worry about. Youâd been around Caitlin enough beforehand that she was a familiar presence in your life.Â
Some moments were a bit rocky, but you and Caitlin eventually found your dynamic and Caitlin quickly became your âCaityâ as you called her. At first your mammy thought youâd learnt her name and started to call her that instead of mammy, âNo mammy, Caity,â You pointed towards Caitlin, âMy Caity,â You smiled and so did both Katie and Caitlin. Caitlin had become someone in your life, close to what your mammy was to you.Â
Caitlin became part of your daily routine, part of your night routine. Both your mammy and your Caity would squeeze into your little bed with you, read you a little book before youâd say goodnight to them both along with the jerseys of course. After a little while, it felt like something was missing. You couldnât figure it out, but you felt a bit of unease when theyâd both leave you for the night.Â
Though you continued to go about your days, that feeling that something was missing was easy to ignore during the day but at night it always crept back to the forefront of your mind. It wasnât until you were skipping along following your mammy around the pitch after a match when you were looking around at some of the signs that the fans were holding.
â...can I have your jersey?â Was what you read on the sign. It felt like everything in your mind cleared and it all made sense. You were missing Caitlinâs jersey on your wall. When theyâd both leave your room, youâd still be left with your mammyâs presence but you didnât have Caitlinâs.
âMammy, Iâm gonna go to Caity,â You tugged on your mammyâs shirt so sheâd let you go off by yourself over towards where Caitlin was interacting with fans.
âAlright starfish, be safe and go straight there,â You laughed loudly when your mammy picked you up and threw you in the air before catching you again, âTell Caity I love her,â A kiss on your forehead and you were set back on the ground making your way to Caitlin.
The fans made your appearance known to Caitlin before you did, turning around to watch you skip your way across the pitch to her. Smiling wide and instantly scooping you up into your arms, resting you on her hip, âMy favourite little starfish,âÂ
You smiled wide at Caitlin and gave a little wave to the fans that you were near. You liked the fans, theyâd give you bracelets and want you to sign their things and they were always nice to you so youâd always be nice back to them.Â
âCaity,â You turned your attention back to Caitlin, grabbing onto the front of her jersey a little, âCan I have this? Iâve got mammyâs but I need yours please,â You gave her your best pout in the hopes it would persuade her to say yes in case sheâd say no, even though she couldnât say no to you, âDonât tell mammy though!â Your eyebrows furrowed together, a big frown on your face and the fans that overheard and saw the interaction promised to keep it to themselves.
Even though Caitlin would almost give you anything you wanted, she was still a little confused as to why you wanted her jersey, âWhy do you want mine, starfish?â Caitlin was still holding you on her hip, your head laying on her shoulder. You were getting tired, match days were always a big day for you, and cuddling more into Caitlin so sheâd taken you both away from the fans and down the tunnel a little bit while you waited for Katie to join the two of you.
âWhen you and mammy say goodnight, mammy still stays but youâre gone and I need both you and mammy with me,â Caitlin was the one to help Katie put her jerseyâs on your wall while listening to the story that led up to why Katie was doing this, so Caitlin wasnât unfamiliar and connected what you were talking about. Your eyes had closed not long after you spoke, Caitlinâs never left you. Her eyes lighting up in a way that they only really do when she looks at you, though it was definitely a different kind of shine they held when looking at you.Â
âWhatâs got you so smiley?â Katie smiled when she caught the sight of you and Caitlin, wrapping her arm around Caitlinâs waist and giving you a light kiss on your forehead not wanting to wake you up.
âJust thinking of how much I love starfish,â Caitlin spoke so softly and her eyes didnât leave you. Letting out a soft, content sigh before looking at Katie, âAnd how much I love you,âÂ
âSuch a charmer,â Katie chuckled softly, a soft kiss shared between them before continuing to walk down to grab their things and yours as well, âI love both you and starfish too,âÂ
A few days after that match it was just you and Caitlin at home while your mammy was out for the day. You were bouncing around holding the jersey that youâd asked Caitlin for the other day, the frames were all picked out and you couldnât be more excited, âGot to pick a aus-aust,â Your eyebrows scrunched together, if there was any word that would be your enemy it would be australia. Letting out a little huff you remembered what youâd learnt from Kyra when she noticed you struggling the first time saying it, âA straya one now!âÂ
Caitlin let out a little laugh while muttering under her breath, âSpending too much time with Kyra,â The attempt at mimicking their accents would never not be amusing on top of your already mixed accent, âWhat about this one starfish?â Caitlin was holding up her jersey from the world cup, the match against Ireland.
You recognised the flag on the jersey, lifting your hand to hover your finger over it, âMammy lost,â As soon as you said that, Caitlin was instantly worried that sheâd chosen the wrong one to suggest. Even though she thought it would be the perfect one since it was still connected to your mammy but also since youâre Irish and Caitlinâs Australian that it could display the connection between the two of you, âBut Caity won. I love it, thank you Caity,â You beamed, grabbing out for the jersey while jumping on top of Caitlin and wrapping your little arms around her.
Having both Caitlinâs Arsenal and Australia jerseyâs in your arms, they were one step away from officially being placed on your wall. It took Caitlin a bit longer than it did Katie to put the jerseyâs on the wall, being Caitlinâs only helper was you and your little arms wouldnât reach. But you helped by getting distracted with everything in your room and talking Caitlinâs ear off with whatever new facts youâd learnt recently.
âThere we go!â Caitlin took a step back, proud that she had managed to finally hang the jerseyâs so they were level and not on a slight lean.
The first time you saw it all put together, nothing else could take your eyes away from it. In your heart you could feel that everything felt right now, the piece that was missing was finally found and put into place. You jumped up on your bed and lifted your hand up towards the frames, âBe careful starfish, you can look but donât touch them. Want to keep you safe,â Looking back at Caitlin, you smiled. Those were the same words your mammy said when sheâd just put her jerseyâs up. Caitlin was your Caity and you just knew she was going to be that for forever and you couldnât be more happy to have her in your life.
âCaity,â You looked up at Caitlinâs jerseyâs, âMammy,â Looking back at your mammyâs, âMy Caity and my mammy,â Caitlin smiled wide while looking at you, she didnât know what sheâd done to deserve to have this role in your life but she would always cherish it. In Caitlinâs eyes you were perfect.Â
âMy starfish,â You laughed loudly when Caitlin came up behind you and scooped you up into her arms, tickling your sides a little, âForever going to be my little starfish,âÂ
âEven when Iâm big and stronger than you and mammy?â You held up your arm and tried to âflexâ just like youâd seen your mammy and Kyra do so many times around training, theyâd even tried to teach you how to.
Caitlin laughed, you really were just a tiny Katie, âYou could be a thousand times stronger than us and youâd still be our little starfish,â Your nose scrunched up when Caitlin tapped it lightly.
âI canât wait for mammy to see,â As if on cue you heard the jingle of keys in the front door and knew it was your mammy, âMammy! Câmon Caity,â You slid off Caitlinâs lap, grabbing a hold of her hand, dragging her to where your mammy had just walked through the door.
Like always your mammy knelt down and held out her arms for you to run into, picking you up and spinning you around. It was the same every time and every time it would make you giggle, âI missed my little starfish,â Your mammy kissed your forehead gently, âAnd I missed you too,â Katie, still holding you in her arms, leaned over towards Caitlin, giving her a little kiss. Even with it being a short kiss, they both still felt your little hands pushing at their faces.
âNo, no time for that,â They both smiled and laughed, Caitlin knew you were excited to show your mammy the newest additions to your room. You were excited, you know your mammy would be happy to see. Caitlin was important in your life and you knew she was important to your mammy, âI got a surprise for you mammy,âÂ
âOh? A surprise for me?â Katie raised her eyebrows, holding you out a little so she could properly look at you. You gave her an enthusiastic head nod with a small âmhmâ, gripping onto your mammyâs shirt, âWell I guess I canât keep you waiting, unless,â Katie dragged out her words, teasing you. You let out a small huff, âJust kidding starfish,âÂ
âCaity, cover mammyâs eyes!â You exclaimed once your mammy placed you back on the ground. Katie rolled her eyes when she felt Caitlin cover them, you took hold of your mammyâs hand and led her to your bedroom, â1âŚ2âŚ3âŚnow Caity!â
Following your instructions, Caitlin removed her hands, a soft and quick kiss on Katieâs cheek, âYouâre going to love this,â And Caitlin was right. There werenât any words that could express just how much Katie loved the sight in front of her.
Katie loved the relationship you and Caitlin had grown to have, how you also saw Caitlin as an important part of your life. Your mammy listened to you, her eyes a little glossy but all from how much happiness she was feeling, while you told her exactly why youâd asked Caitlin for her jerseys. How the arsenal one matches both yours and your mammyâs, you did ask if you could have an arsenal jersey with your name and Caitlinâs number so you could wear that to the matches sometimes.Â
Your mammy listened to every word you had to say and at the end she gave you the biggest hug youâd ever had before. Looking over Katieâs shoulder you signalled for Caitlin to join. Caitlin joined the two of you, wrapping her arms around you both, kissing both of your foreheads. The three of you were wrapped up in each other's embrace and in each other's love. There was no doubt that you werenât loved.
âMy mammy, my Caity,â You whispered out, cuddling further into the two of them.Â
Katie and Caitlin looked at each other, then back at you, âOur little starfish,â

"don't do this here" with Katie McCabe please?
pacifier || katie mccabe x reader ||
katie mccabe had a temper. you knew this before you had ever gotten into a relationship with her. you knew this way back in ireland when the two of you had been running around on the playground together. everybody knew that katie had a temper, but they didn't know about yours.
in fact, only a select group of people had ever seen you get truly angry before. katie hated it. the whole experience terrified her. you were always the one who calmed her down, not the other way around. katie knew how to, but she always felt like she was awkwardly stumbling towards a solution.
"what the hell is going on over there? oh shit, (y/n) looks pissed," kyra laughed as she pointed at you. katie's head snapped over in that direction, and once she saw you, katie was sprinting towards you.
"hey! hey! hey! no, don't do this here," katie said as she pulled you away. your body was shaking with anger as you stood across from one of your exes. you hadn't dated many people, but of course, you run into the only one who had dated both you and katie back in the day.
"katie, let go of me. i'm gonna end this bitch," you said. katie grabbed onto your jaw and directed you to look at her. your gaze immediately softened, and the longer you spent in katie's arms, the more slack your body went. "take me home?"
"good idea. can't have you getting arrested. come on, you've earned yourself a cuddle," katie said. it was definitely just what she wanted, but having katie hold you in her arms for a bit did feel like it'd calm you down a bit.

dive â k.mccabe x reader
summary: after a few dates with katie, it seems like your relationship isnât blossoming as youâd like so you write a song about your feelings towards her
your phone buzzed for what felt like the thousandth time that hour and you balled up the paper with lyrics scrawled on it, throwing it in the general direction of the device.
you knew it wasnât katie calling so you made no move to answer it. you gripped the pencil tighter in your hand, sighing quietly as you went over the date in your mind. it had been over a week, you thought it had gone well, but youâd hardly heard from her since. so something mustâve gone wrong.
with a sigh, you grabbed a different piece of paper and began rewriting the lyrics that were floating around your head.
oh, maybe i came on too strong
maybe i waited too long
maybe i played my cards wrong
oh, just a little bit wrong
baby i apologize for it
one thing you prided yourself on was being honest in your music, often writing songs about your life to get your feelings out in a healthy way. they didnât always get recorded, sometimes they were written and kept hidden.
and at first you werenât sure what was going to happen with your currently unnamed song but the more you wrote, the more you fell in love with it.
so as soon as you found the time, you were in the studio, writing and recording until you were incredibly happy with what youâd produced.
you were listening to it properly for the first time when the door behind you opened. you werenât worried about who it could be as only certain people had access to the room.
âhey you,â and one of them just so happened to be leah williamson. âwatcha working on?â
âa song.â
âno way,â leah deadpanned and you turned to her with a blank stare. âgrace said youâve been cooped up in here for days. iâm assuming this is why.â
grace carter, a long time friend who introduced you to leah after you disclosed that you were a gooner who then introduced you to katie.
âuh huh,â you nodded. âyou like?â
âi do,â leah nodded this time, sitting in the seat next to you. âam i right in assuming that is about my irish friend?â
you hummed quietly. âhas she⌠said anything about me?â
âare you kidding?â leah scoffed. âall she does is talk about you, itâs actually kind of annoying.â
âoh.â is all you could say, not really sure what to do with the information youâd received.
leahâs eyebrows furrowed at how confused you looked, leaning forward in her chair. âi feel like iâm missing something.â
âwell she hasnât called since our date so hearing you say that she talks about me just doesnât make a lot of sense.â
âno, it doesnât, does it?â she sighed. âcome to the game next week, you can talk to her then.â
âiâm not allowed to say no, am i?â
ânope. i will drag you to the emirates by your hair if i have to.â
-
katieâs eyes widened as she spotted you laughing with leah and beth. it wasnât a shock that you were there, she just wasnât expecting to see you sporting a jersey with her across your shoulder blades.
she made her way over, reaching for your hand and tugging you away from the pair and away from prying eyes. you frowned a little.
âare you okay?â she asked quietly.
âwhy havenât you called me?â
katie blinked. âi didnât think youâd want me to.â
âwhy on earth would i not want you to?â you stared at her with wide eyes. âdid something happen on our date that iâm not aware of? i have no idea whatâs happening right now.â
katieâs face softened a little, sighing as she reached to smooth out the crease between your furrowed brows. âi take it you havenât seen well anything thatâs been going on on twitter.â
âi donât have twitter and i rarely go on social media, whyâwhatâs happening?â
âsomeone took a picture of us on our date and it was clear that we were on a date. i know that youâre not out yet and when it eventually blew up and you didnât call me, i thought that it mightâve freaked you out so i wanted to give you space because i know how hard that conversation can be.â
âoh,â you sucked in a breath. âi donât really know what to say.â
âitâs okay you donât have to say anythingââ
âno i do so uh thank you, i guess. it sent my anxiety through the roof not hearing from you but the reasoning is sound and kind of sweet. and just so you know i really donât care what any of those people say or think. and besides itâs none of their business.â
âi shouldâve known that youâd say something like that after seeing you in this,â katie tugged at the jersey, laughing softly at the flush on your face. âgood choice by the way.â
âthanks,â you murmured bashfully. âi know that leah told you iâd be here but did she say anything else?â
katie shook her head. âno, why?â
âwell when leah invited me we were in the studio and listening to a song that iâd recorded and i thought sheâd tell you. clearly she did not but⌠do you want to hear it?â
âiâd love to.â
around fifteen minutes later, you were situated in the studio, shuffling nervously in your chair, the song coming to an end. you looked at katie hopefully.
there was a thoughtful look on her face. âwas that about me?â
âmaybe,â you shrugged. âdid you like it? leah did so if you donât, itâs about her.â
you giggled at the scowl on katieâs face, watching as if slowly turned into a smirk.
âso iâm like your muse?â she asked and you rolled your eyes playfully.
âsuppose so,â you hummed. âitâs called dive by the way.â
âwell i love it,â she proclaimed. âand not just because itâs about me. itâs a really good song.â
âthank you.â
silence fell over you both and you could see katie giving everything a look over, a look of genuine curiosity etched onto her face. she turned to you then and you were half expecting her to ask a question about the studio or something else about the song.
âi think the girls are at a pub down the road, fancy going?â she asked instead and you tilted your head as you pretended to think.
âoh i donât know iâll have to check my diary, iâm a pretty busy woman,â you sighed, sitting forward and lazily flipping through the music notes. âbut i suppose i can spare some time for a pretty girl and her friends.â
when you turned back around, you didnât expect to see katieâs face turn pink and as much as you wanted to call her out on it, you decided not to.
âcome on then,â you said, standing up and holding your hand out to her. âi havenât got all day mccabe, get a move on.â
katie rolled her eyes and stood, taking your hand and lacing your fingers with hers. you ignored the butterflies in your stomach and let her drag you around, leading you to whatever pub her teammates had chosen.
âyouâre buying first.â you told katie as soon as you walked into the establishment.
âwhy me?â
âbecause i wrote a song about you, the least you can do is buy me a drink.â
âfair enough.â
she gently shoved you into the direction of the girls and you practically jumped onto leahâs lap, laughing as she grunted before forcing you into the seat next to her.
katie soon joined, squeezing in next to you. the conversation flowed easily between everyone and just as beth announced that she wanted to take a picture, you felt katieâs arm slip around your waist.
you turned to look at her with a smile as she pulled you closer, both of you failing to notice the phone pointing in your direction.
a tap on your knee broke your gaze and you turned back around for the picture, shooting up to have a look at it before asking beth to send it to you.
your eyebrows furrowed when two pictures came through but that fluttery feeling was back as you smiled down at the second one she sent. you made sure katie liked it before posting them on instagram because you meant what you said to katie earlier that day.
you didnât care what anyone else thought about your relationship or your sexuality. you had katie and thatâs all that mattered.

Luch
(Lil McCabe Universe)
Katie McCabe x Lil McCabe
Warnings: Part of the unseen series this part focuses more on Katie, itâs got angst and is like a little background and a way to go forward with Katie and Lil McCabes relationship
Katie didn't quite know when you fell through the cracks and faded into the back. She could still remember you being born, though. She was seven, a whirlwind of freckles and laughter, so excited to have a new baby in the family. It had become a tradition in their house, this older sibling adoption. The eldest would take the youngest, showering them with attention, teaching them everything they knew. A miniature mentorship program, filled with scraped knees, shared secrets, and an unwavering bond.
For Katie, it was her turn. She was going to be the best big sister ever. A boy or a girl, it didnât matter. Sheâd teach them everything, from the best hiding spots in the garden to the correct way to tackle a football. Sheâd introduce them to her friends, share her toys, and protect them from the world.
She remembered the day you arrived, a tiny, wrinkled bundle. You fit perfectly in the palm of her hand. She was careful, so careful, as she held you, her heart pounding with a mixture of love and responsibility. Sheâd named you âSquishyâ that day, a name that stuck for a few weeks before you graduated to something more...permanent.
What was it, why can't she remeber it now, its the only thing she called you, the only thing SHE called you.
There are gaps in her memory now, like pieces of a puzzle missing. You were there, a constant in the chaotic tapestry of her childhood, and then you werenât. Itâs as if someone had gently peeled you away, leaving an indistinct shape where you once were.
She remembers your laughter, a clear bell-like sound that would fill the house. She remembers the way your eyes would light up when she read you stories. And she remembers the day you took your first steps, holding onto her finger for dear life.
She dressed you in tiny football jerseys, her favorite teamâs colors blazing against your soft skin. She taught you the alphabet with the help of her toy animals, her patience endless as you struggled to pronounce the letters. Weekends were spent at the park, Katie pushing you on the swings, her laughter mingling with yours as you soared through the air.
But then, the memories start to blur. There are fragments, snapshots, like a photo album with missing pages. Youâre there, but youâre also not. You morph into Ella and Lauryn, She starts being unable to tell what memories are with you and what memories are with them.
Cheeky, no thats what she called Ella
Sometimes, late at night, when the house is quiet, Katie will close her eyes and try to remember you. Sheâll see a small figure, a blur of color, a sound. But then, the image fades, and sheâs left with an aching emptiness.
Munchkin, no thats what she called Lauryn
The name was on the tip of her tongue, a phantom word dancing just beyond her grasp. It was a small thing, a trivial detail, but in the grand scheme of her fading memories, it was a cornerstone. Squishy was a placeholder, a temporary label for a child who had become an integral part of her life. The real name, the one that fit perfectly, was buried beneath layers of time and confusion.
It was a name whispered in countless bedtime stories, shouted in shared laughter, and softly murmured in moments of comfort. A name that held the weight of a world, a universe contained within a single syllable. Now, it was a ghost, haunting the corridors of her mind.
The blurring of memories was a cruel thief, stealing the clarity of childhood. Ella and Lauryn, the subsequent additions to the family, had cast long shadows, their presences eclipsing you. Yet, there was a part of Katie that refused to accept this erasure.
The name was a whisper in the wind, a phantom echo in the chambers of her mind. Katie clutched at the edges of her memory, desperate to grasp the elusive word. It was a puzzle piece, missing from the grand tapestry of her childhood, a void that gnawed at her with an insistent hunger.
Days turned into weeks as she delved deeper into the recesses of her mind. She revisited old photo albums, the glossy pages filled with smiling faces. There you were, standing at the back sometimes only the top of your head only visible, a tiny speck in a sea of laughter, your eyes holding a spark of mischief that mirrored her own. But the name remained out of reach, a tantalizing mirage in the desert of her recollection.
She tried talk to your parents, hoping they might remember. But your mam still refusued to talk to her and your da was no help not even remembering if her himself had given you a nickname like he had the rest of his kids. She tried your siblings but they were no use each either shouting out random names or asking "Wait Y/n had a nickname, i thought it was just Ella and Lauren." It was as if it had been erased from the family history, a forgotten chapter in a well-loved story.
Desperation crept into her heart. She was losing you, she had lost you. Katie remembered, the fearless, protective big sister role she used to proudly play, but your part was fading if not already gone.
One evening, as she sat alone in the quiet of her living room, a flicker of memory ignited within her. She closed her eyes, focusing on the sensation of warmth, the smell of baby powder, the sound of soft giggles. And then, it came to her, as clear as day.
"Luch."
The word slipped out of her lips, a whisper in the still air. It was perfect, simple, and utterly fitting. Luch it was mouse in Irish something she had just learned in school and it fit you perfectly you were as quite as a mouse even as a baby and she used to laugh at the way you scrunched your nose just before you cried. It was the name she had given you, the name that had defined your place in her heart.
You were her baby sister. Her first responsibility, her first love. And somewhere along the way she had failed to even notice you slip through the cracks, she had turned into the person she had sworn to protect you from at just seven years old and she didn't know how to fix it.

Kiss Me
Hi!
This is from a request and you can find it here. There is a prequel that you can find here.
Thank you for reading it :)
TW : Jealousy, Angst, Swearing
______________________________________________________________
"Why is your friend looking at me like sheâs gonna kill me?"
Surprised by the question that your interlocutor asks you, you follow her eyes to fall on Katieâs furious face. You obviously knew who the brunette you just met was referring to in that dubious nightclub, even before you met the blue of Katieâs eyes.
"Donât worry about her" you answer with a little smile.
The truth is, youâre nervous. If you find yourself talking to that brunette, itâs because Steph and Kyra pushed you to do it. They saw her looking at you a lot since the start of the evening.
"Come on, she's the prettiest in the nightclub" Kyra told you before practically pushing you down your seat.
"What do you have to lose?" Caitlin shrugged when you looked for her to have some help.
The truth is, Caitlin knows what you have to lose because she knows about your complicated relationship with Katie. In short, youâre both crazy in love with each other. But the complicated thibg is the point of honor that puts Katie not to be in a couple with a teammate, especially following the way her relationship with Ruesha ended.
This doesnât prevent her from yielding regularly to the temptation that you some way are in her eyes, even ending up just as regularly by spending the night with you. The next morning, however, itâs always the same thing. She apologizes, tells you that you shouldnât have done this, kisses your cheek and leaves.
"If it makes her react to seeing you with someone elseâŚ" Caitlin whispered, even though Katie couldnât hear her at the other end of the table anyway.
No doubt from feeling your teammatesâ eyes on her, the pretty stranger ended up approaching your table. She spoke directly to you with a shy smile.
"Hello. Can I buy you a drink?" she asked.
"Yes you can!" Kyra almost scream, actually pushing you from your seat this time.
"Iâm Emma" the brunette introduced herself on your way to the bar.
"Y/N" you just answered.
"Nice name for a pretty girl"
You smiled when you heard her, not really comfortable in the field of flirting. Katie had to stick you against a wall to kiss you to make you realized that maybe she liked you too.
After getting your drinks, Emma pulled you back from the crowd to chat a little more quietly. Thatâs when she felt Katieâs burning eyes. Emma doesnât seem to know youâre Arsenal players, and itâs pretty refreshing. And youâre relieved to know she wonât talk about your discussion and Katieâs reaction somewhere on Internet.
"Youâre cute" smiles Emma while flicking your hair when you explain to her that youâre not from London but from Australia following the question she asks you about your accent.
Surprised by the statement, you look up at her without knowing what to say. Sheâs probably very pretty too, to be fair. She has a nice smile, she looks very nice and her eyes sparkle with mischief. But sheâs not Katie.
"Thank you" you ended up answering weirdly.
But this doesnât seem to bother Emma who follows by an invitation to go dancing. You accept, hoping that it makes you think about something else than Katieâs look making you the impression that it will pierce you. So you try to focus on the music and find qualities for Emma. You donât flinch when she puts her hands on your hips to draw you against her to dance. But you withdraw abruptly when you feel her lips approach dangerously yours, teasing them lightly.
"Iâm sorry" you mumble before freeing yourself from her arms.
Youâre not exactly sure where youâre going to run from, but you are. Until someone grabs both your arms in each of their hands to turn you around. Katie.
"Did she kiss you?"
Her voice trembles with fury and her breath is short. But her gaze plunged into yours and it gives you the impression that there is more than that.
"No"
"Did you want to kiss her?"
Of course thereâs more, like every time she kisses you or you make love. Itâs not for nothing that you come back every time.
"No" you whisper
After hearing your answer, Katie abruptly breaks the last centimeters that existed between you. Her lips on yours are far from tender, rather passionate and almost desperate. The force of her kiss makes you back to the wall against which you get pinned. Like for your first kiss.
"Youâre mine" Katie pants, her forehead against yours, at the end of your kiss.
"Of course I am. The only problem is that youâre not mine back, Katie."
Katie looks at you for a few seconds, her eyes dipped into yours. You are still against the wall, not thinking for a second that all your teammates are now watching you.
"Iâm just scared" Katie whispers, and you feel yourself getting soft immediately at her confession.
You raise your hand on her face still leaning against yours by your foreheads. Katieâs soft side has always made you fall harder than her strong character.
"I know. Iâm not gonna run away, Katie."
You feel Katieâs eyes probing yours for long seconds, your fingers still drawing the lines of her face. Her breath caresses your lips and it makes you half mad.
"Kiss me again" you almost beg her.
Katie doesnât hesitate to put her lips on yours again for a new kiss. You put her hands on her neck and slide your nails on her skin, lightly scraching her, like you know she likes. And you canât help but be proud by hearing her moan against your lips and feeling her tighten impossibly close to you. Stuck between the wall and her body, you canât focus on anything but her. And itâs delicious.
"Um. I hate myself to interrupt your moment, but you better finish this at either one of your house before you end up on the Internet."
Lost in your world, you didnât see or feel Leah approach you. Her amused smile makes you blush but you let Katie grab your hand to train you with her.
"Where are we going?" you ask without resisting.
"Home."
By an incredible luck you get to find a taxi directly out of the bar that brings you quickly to Katie. And youâre unable to keep your hands in your pockets the whole way, but in your defense, Katie doesnât help you be wise either. Luckily itâs not an Uber, otherwise you probably wouldnât have gotten the five stars.
Arriving at Katieâs, you quickly find yourself where Katie had more or less left you. That is to say trap between her body and a wall, except that this time itâs in her apartment. You manage to reach her bedroom that you know a little less well than she knows yours, losing your clothes on the way. The hours that followed are without comments and just before you fall asleep you wonder how will happen the next morning. Usually, youâre at your apartment and Katie can run away. The good news is you can sit in her living room until you have a full conversation about your relationship.
********
The next morning, when you wake up, you are surprised to see that Katie is always with you in her bed. You are almost wrapped around her, one of your arms around her waist, one of your legs over her and your face just below her shoulder. You realize that Katie is awake when you hear her laugh softly and you look up at her.
Since she wakes up almost every time before you, you havenât really seen her in the morning. But you doubt youâve ever found her as beautiful as she was now. You donât know whatâs left in her head about what happened last night. You know that sheâs the type to run headlong and you almost expect her to tell you that you have to put a definitive point to your story. Despite the extreme comfort in which you are, you try to take off from Katie, but she frowns by passing an arm around your waist to hold you against her.
"Did you sleep well?" Katie asks, putting a hand in your hair.
"Wonderfully well" you confess without hesitation, lying back in your initial position.
Katie doesn't answer anything, content to smile gently while continuing to caress your hair. Thatâs the truth, you donât know when is the last time you slept so deeply and so restfully. And in your opinion, the arms of the Irish are not unknown.
"So..." you begin after minutes of silence.
"Yeah?"
"About last night?"
"What about last night?" Katie asks softly after some moments of hesitation.
The question takes you by surprise and you lift your face from her body, so that you can observe her. But when you look at her face, you immediately see the gleam of fun shining through her eyes. Sheâs just teasing you and having fun with your nerves. But you decide this time to play her game, unlike other times when you didnât know what to answer.
"I donât know? Does it get serious between us or do I have to go get Emmaâs number?"
Katieâs eyebrows immediately frown and itâs your turn to hold back an amused smile. You do so with extreme accuracy.
"Donât you dare"
"Otherwise what?" you ask with amusement as you lift your face up to hers.
But Katie answers nothing, taken to her own game, and just pouts. Her two hands slide on each side of your face to finish in your hair and put back the few strands that were on your face.
"I want you to be mine"
"I told you last night, Katie, Iâve been yours for a long time now."
"Mine only?"
"Of course"
"Mine only in like no one has touched you in a long time?"
"No one since you"
This information seems to satisfy Katie, whose body relax under yours. Her question obviously attracts your curiosity, but youâre not sure that you want to know the answer. Unless itâs obviously what youâre hoping for.
"Stop beating your brains out. I havenât been with anyone since that kiss in the hallway either" Katie says after a few seconds.
"You really know how to talk to women" you grumble while rolling your eyes, however relieved of this information.
Katie laughs for good this time, putting her hands on your hips to make you turn and find herself above you. A new laugh escapes from her lips when she hears your little cry of surprise, but all this is interrupted when she kisses you.
"Just to be clear, youâre my girlfriend now, yeah?"
You almost want to tease her a little more, but when you see her face tinged with a certain form of shyness, you change your mind. Instead you stretch your neck to lay a kiss on the corner of her jaw.
"With great pleasure" you answer.
"Nice" Katie grins before kissing you again.
