Went to see The Marvels tonight and it was brilliant. Plenty of action, comedy, drama and time/space travel shenanigans.
(Spoilers ahead)
So Carol Danvers is Captain Marvel and also technically a Disney Princess. She sang and danced with a Prince (who she is married to) in a ball gown.
Goose had a litter of flurkin/kittens that saved the crew of SABER by eating them then spitting them out later.
The ending is opening up the possibility of multiverse travel with Monica being on a parallel earth with Maria Rambeau and Beast at the X-Men mansion. Is this how we get X-Men and mutants in the MCU?
Cameos of Valkyrie who is a friend of Carol’s that she can call in an emergency (when did that friendship happen?), Kate Bishop and Pizza dog who Kamala wants to recruit for a new team which might include Ant-Man’s daughter Cassie and Beast played by Kelsey Grammer with the mention of Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart? 🤞).

some fun facts for the @tournament-of-x voters
The oldest contestants currently in the match (and by oldest, I mean “the date of their first appearance”, not their actual ages) are Magneto, Jean Grey, Bobby Drake/Iceman, and Scott Summers/Cyclops. All four of them first appear in X-Men #1 in 1963.
The youngest contestant currently in the match (again, in terms of the dates of their first appearance, not actual age) is Gwendolyn Poole/Gwenpool, who first debuted in Howard the Duck #1 in 2015.
Of the contestants, only Laura Kinney/Wolverine appeared first on screen -- her first ever appearance was in Season 3, Episode 10 of X-Men: Evolution in August of 2003. This would be later followed by her first comic appearance in NYX #3, in December of 2003.
As far as classic teams go: the 33 characters remaining include three of the original five X-Men (Jean, Bobby, Scott), four of the classic nine New Mutants (Xuân Cao Mạnh/Karma, Dani Moonstar/Mirage, Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, and Illyana Rasputin/Magik -- Dani, Xuân, and Roberto are also founding members), and two people who have two first appearances (both Illyana and Nathan Summers/Cable appear in canon continuity as babies/toddlers prior to appearing later under their aliases -- Illyana appears in Giant-Sized X-Men #1 in 1975 and Nathan appears in Uncanny X-Men #201 in 1985). Two contestants are also part of the iconic Giant-Sized X-Men team created in 1975 -- Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler and Ororo Munroe/Storm. Two members of the original Generation X remain (Monet St. Croix/M/Penance and Jubilation Lee/Jubilee), as well as two from the Academy X era (David Alleyne and Megan Gwynn, from the New Mutants second generation team and the Paragons, respectively), three if you choose to count Laura Kinney/Wolverine, who joined the remaining students of New X-Men vol. 2 just after M-Day.
All the contestants save nine made their first appearances in X-books (X-Men, Giant-Sized X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, New Mutants, X-Factor, X-Force, Generation X, X-Men: Evolution and New X-Men). The ones who do not first appear in X-books are Mystique (Ms. Marvel #18 in 1978, though she technically had a cameo appearance two issues prior), Xuân Cao Mạnh/Karma (Marvel Team-Up #100 in 1980), Anna Marie Lebeau/Rogue (Avengers Annual #10, 1981), Dani Moonstar/Mirage and Roberto da Costa/Sunspot (both in Marvel Graphic Novel #4 in 1983), Billy Kaplan-Altman/Wiccan (Young Avengers #1, 2005), Tommy Shepherd/Speed (Young Avengers #10, 2006), Eden Fesi/Manifold (Secret Warriors #4, 2009), and Gwendolyn Poole/Gwenpool (Howard the Duck #1, 2015).
Demographically speaking, four characters in the tournament are canonically Jewish -- Magneto, Kate Pryde, Billy Kaplan-Altman/Wiccan, and Bobby Drake/Iceman (thanks for the reminder, @/ant-ifascottlang!) Though it hasn’t been confirmed, one might assume that Tommy Shepherd/Speed and Lorna Dane/Polaris are also Jewish, being related to them.
The 70s and the 80s are proving themselves to be the most popular -- 8 candidates that were created in the 70s are still in the tournament (Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler, Ororo Munroe/Storm, Illyana Rasputin/Magik, Mystique, Jean-Paul Beaubier/Northstar, Jeanne-Marie Beaubier/Aurora, Kitty/Kate Pryde, and Emma Frost/White Queen), and 8 characters created in the 80s are still in the tournament as well (Irene Adler/Destiny, Xuân Cao Mạnh/Karma, Anna Marie Lebeau/Rogue, Dani Moonstar/Mirage, Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, Nathan Summers/Cable, Julio Richter/Rictor, and Jubilation Lee/Jubilee).
Of the other decades: seven characters were introduced in the 2000s (Eloise Phimister/Negasonic Teenage Warhead, David Alleyne/Prodigy, Laura Kinney/Wolverine, Megan Gwynn/Pixie, Billy Kaplan-Altman/Wiccan, Tommy Shepherd/Speed, and Eden Fesi/Manifold), five were introduced in the 60s (Magneto, Jean Grey, Bobby Drake/Iceman, Scott Summers/Cyclops, and Lorna Dane/Polaris), and four were introduced in the 90s (Remy Lebeau/Gambit, Lucas Bishop, Neena Thurman/Domino, and Monet St. Croix/M/Penance). Gwendolyn Poole/Gwenpool is the only character remaining in the tournament to be introduced after 2010.
One character is canonically Muslim -- Monet St. Croix/M/Penance.
Eleven characters are canonically LGBTQ+: Bobby Drake/Iceman, Mystique, Jean-Paul Beaubier/Northstar, Kitty/Kate Pryde, Irene Adler/Destiny, Xuân Cao Mạnh/Karma, Julio Richter/Rictor, David Alleyne/Prodigy, Billy Kaplan-Altman/Wiccan, Tommy Shepherd/Speed, and Gwendolyn Poole/Gwenpool.
Laura Kinney/Wolverine, Remy Lebeau/Gambit (thanks for the reminder, @/souldagger!) and Megan Gwynn/Pixie have been confirmed by writers to be queer, but there has been no on-panel confirmation for any of them beyond Pixie’s appearance/alternate dimension self in Secret Wars.
Without counting the upcoming Uncanny Avengers, at least three characters have been recurring Avengers -- Anna Marie Lebeau/Rogue, Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, and Eden Fesi/Manifold. Rogue and Sunspot also notably led teams of Avengers. Several other candidates have been Young Avengers -- David Alleyne/Prodigy, Billy Kaplan-Altman/Wiccan (who was a founding member), and Tommy Shepherd/Speed.
Ten characters are mutants of color -- Ororo Munroe/Storm is Kenyan-American and grew up in Cairo, Xuân Cao Mạnh/Karma is Vietnamese, Dani Moonstar/Mirage is Indigenous American, specifically Cheyenne, Roberto da Costa is Afrolatino and from Brazil, Julio Richter/Rictor is Mexican, Jubilation Lee/Jubilee is Chinese-American, Lucas Bishop is Aboriginal Australian/Black American (according to Chris Claremont, who confirmed that Bishop is indeed descended from Aboriginal Australian mutant Gateway), Monet St. Croix/M/Penance is Monacan-Algerian, David Alleyne/Prodigy is a Black American, and Eden Fesi/Manifold is Aboriginal Australian.
While Laura Kinney/Wolverine first appeared as a visibly brown girl in X-Men: Evolution, her design has since been lightened and she does not have a confirmed ethnicity.
Only eight of the remaining contestants have never appeared in live-action adaptations -- Irene Adler/Destiny, Xuân Cao Mạnh/Karma (though her name is shown on a computer screen in X2: X-Men United), Jean-Paul Beaubier/Northstar, Jeanne-Marie Beaubier/Aurora, David Alleyne/Prodigy, Megan Gwynn/Pixie, Eden Fesi/Manifold, and Gwendolyn Poole/Gwenpool. Of these, only Karma, Penance, Prodigy, Manifold, and Gwenpool have no on-screen appearances at all -- the others appear in the various animated series (Destiny has a recurring appearance in X-Men: Evolution, Pixie pops up in Wolverine and the X-Men, and the Beaubier twins appear in the X-Men cartoon of the 90s). While Penance is listed on Wikipedia as being in Wolverine and the X-Men, it does not cite an episode, though her twin younger sisters appear in Season 1 Episode 10 “Greetings from Genosha.” **this post has been corrected -- Monet St. Croix/M/Penance appears in the direct to TV Generation X movie (thanks for the reminder, @/cranechel!)

Ducky's Tribute Episode made me emotional🥹
I watched Ducky's Tribute episode and it was beautiful. I felt so much emotion in this episode and could feel how much everyone and especially Jimmy really missed Ducky. The loss was felt the whole episode from start to finish, but the ending really got to me the most.
It was nice how past members of the team got to make a cameo appearance in one way or another. Even though they couldn't be there in person to pay their final respects, it's nice how they were still with us all in spirit.
Gibbs sent a photo of himself, Ducky and McGee.
Abbey sent a bouquet of her signature black roses.
Kate and Ziva appeared in Ducky's past photos of the team.
Bishop was mentioned and briefly appeared in the background of a flashback when Ducky first got his office.
However, as I mentioned, the ending was what really got to me the most when the greatest surprise imaginable walked through the autopsy door... Tony DiNozzo.
Tumblr media
I loved seeing Tony again. This was his first appearance on the show in 8 years since he left in 2016 and I love how he comforted Jimmy in how it wasn't just the stories Ducky left behind, but the people he touched along the way. I've missed you, Tony and I will forever and always miss you, Ducky Mallard. You maybe gone, but you will NEVER be forgotten.
Goodbye and Thank you, Ducky for everything and may you forever rest in peace.

The Marvels Deleted Scenes
The Marvels is a short film clocking in at 1 hour and 45 minutes. Such a brisk running time might lead one to believe that a lot of material was left on the cutting room floor. As with all films there's always stuff that's removed or changed during the editing process. However even with an overwhelming amount of marketing footage shown before the film's release and two early test screening leak descriptions, it appears The Marvels actually had its story and structure locked in pretty early on.
The trailers are often a good source for some bits of footage that didn't make the final cut but with The Marvels, there was very little that was shown in all the various previews that didn't make it into the final film. Once the Blu-ray/Disney+ material comes out we'll probably see more deleted scene evidence uncovered. For now here's what I've gathered together so far: (SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE FILM)
The film's plot was leaked last year from an early rough cut test screening. Much of it proved to be very accurate. This summary was the first to report that Valkyrie would have a cameo in the film. This was true as Valkyrie appears aboard Carol's ship via the Bifrost to take the Skrull refugees to Earth after Dar-Benn attacks their sanctuary planet. According to the leaked summary there was originally another scene in which Valkyrie appeared. (I'm guessing here, but I'd assume this other scene most likely would have happened before the escorting of the Skrulls scene.) The leaked summary describes this scene as follows; at one point Kamala is alone on Carol's ship when Valkyrie calls. Valkyrie asks whom she's speaking to and where Carol is. Kamala responds, "I'm Ms. Marvel" and Valkyrie asks "She (Carol) got married again and didn't invite me AGAIN?" Kamala quickly clarifies the MISS part or her title. Valkyrie's line obviously foreshadowing the fact that would be revealed later in the film that Carol is married to Aladna's Prince Yan.
This early summary also described Dar-Benn as using her bangle to "power a weapon" which would steal the resources of the various planets. In the final film, there is no secondary weapon. Dar-Benn simply uses the bangle to both open up portals and extract the planet's resource. Due to the rough-cut state of the film shown in the test screening this could have been either a misinterpretation by the viewer or there actually was a separate weapon in that particular rough cut and they just decided to streamline things by having the bangle perform both tasks. Who knows. Based on this info I myself incorrectly predicted and assumed early on that the huge diamond-shaped ship might have been this "weapon" in the film. But it ended up being just Dar-Benn's Kree flagship of sorts.
Another test screening took place around June 2023 with a leaker corroborating on Reddit what was described in the first plot summary and adding a couple other details which had not been revealed up to that point. One being that the post credit scene would feature another variant of Monica's mother, Maria Rambeau and that Kate Bishop would make a cameo appearance. Both these details turned out to be true too but with one minor difference. This report described the film opening with Kamala recounting the film's events to a mystery person not revealed until the end. This person would turn out to be Kate Bishop. So while the scene with Kamala recruiting Kate still ended up at the end of the film, it appears that Marvel toyed with the idea of having the film's events being narrated retroactively, similar to how Iron Man 3 was Tony recounting his story to Bruce Banner.
As I stated earlier there wasn't much from the trailers that wasn't included in the film but there were a couple. One bit involved Monica during the initial round of location swapping. When Monica switches places while investigating the jump-point in orbit near Earth, she ends up on the barren planetoid where Carol was previously. In the film we see Monica crash onto the planetoid but don't see her get switched back to her original location. The teaser trailer shows a few seconds of Monica getting attacked by the same Kree soldiers Carol had just encountered on the barren planetoid. Monica attempts to use her powers to defend herself but switches again with Carol. You can see the insignia of Carol's suit begin to rematerialize before the trailer cuts away.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another deleted scene that was described in the leaked plot summary involved Carol and Monica traveling to Hala where the Kree are celebrating the return of rain and water to their drought stricken planet. Carol has a crisis of conscience realizing that the "Annihilator" title the Kree labeled her with was accurate from their point of view. There's a brief shot from this scene shown in the theatrical trailer, with Monica and Carol standing in front of a rain soaked window with the Hala cityscape outside it. A line of dialogue from Monica plays over it, "You are not the only thing standing between this and the universe."
Tumblr media
In recent interviews following the film's release, Iman Vellani has revealed details on some scenes that were either changed, shortened or cut altogether. From Yahoo:
Monica Rambeau was originally going to be christened with her codename, Photon during the climax of the film right before she repaired the tear in space-time. Vellani commented, "It was a cool moment, but I think they took it out for a good reason." The original scene had the Marvel trio using their powers together to repair the tear. "It wouldn't make sense tonally if Monica is about to sacrifice herself and we're like, 'But your code name!'"
The song/dance sequence on Aldna was originally longer. "The song itself was much longer, and so much fun. There was a beat where Carol starts singing before she dances with the prince - that was pretty funny. And there's a moment where Kamala starts singing, too." - This one isn't too surprising. The leaked summary even made a comment that the sequence went on for way too long in the test screening cut. This was a scene I thought would potentially be pretty cringey but didn't actually end up bugging me. Although a longer version of it most likely would have wore out its welcome pretty quickly.
Some other little beats that got scrapped from the theatrical cut included an early scene where Kamala switches places with Carol and ends up on her starship, not immediately realizing she's in the same domicile where her hero resides.
Tumblr media
There was also a longer version of the final encounter with Kate Bishop. "Hailee and I had a really fun back and forth," "Tonally, it wouldn't have made sense if we kept joking about [the Young Avengers team], but we were having so much fun bouncing off each other."
Lastly, a few more cut tidbits via @CanWeGetSomeToast on X/Twitter:
Kamala wasn’t able to take off her bangle and was imprisoned/tortured by Dar-Benn.
Captain Marvel and Valkyrie were explicitly together in the past (cut quote: “we work better as friends”) but Disney are cowards.
Prince Yan was supposed to gift each of The Marvels with a new suit, right before gathering his army. Monica had her comic accurate wings at first, but it was too much for her so she tore them off.
Kamala’s new suit originally turned into a space-suit, which would’ve been used to join Carol and Monica to close the rip in space-time TOGETHER.

Godzilla 2014: Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch play husband and wife.
Kong Skull Island: Loki, Nick Fury, and Captain Marvel get lost in the jungle.
Godzilla KOTM: Morgan Stark plays baby Millie Bobby Brown, she and Kate Bishop have the same mom, and Tony's cabin from Endgame cameos.
GvK: Firefist from Deadpool 2 plays a forgettable supporting character in the Mechagodzilla storyline.
MLOM: Ego and US Agent play the same guy.
Maybe the reason the Monsterverse is the only other cinematic universe that didn't implode almost as soon as it launched is because they keep casting Marvel actors for good luck.

My biggest wish for SM4 is to see Florence Pugh and Hailee Steinfeld make an appearance as Yelena Belova and Kate Bishop (and the latest rumours about street-level Spider-Man and Kingpin got my delusion to another level 🥲), because Yelena and Kate were hilarious in Hawkeye and I think Peter would fit perfectly into their chaotic dynamic 😂
Also, Florence and Hailee are incredible actresses and I would love to see Tom work with them!
So I was very excited for last night, since I was hoping Tom would finally meet Florence and Hailee, but turns out the whole cast of Oppenheimer was there, except for Flo and the whole team behind Into The Spiderverse was there except for Hailee! And Tom even posed with them for a picture! 😭
Conclusion: the universe hates me ☹️
Lol, I have to confess I have not seen Hawkeye 🫣 honestly I would not mind some cameos street level wise and feature specially daredevil but I hope at most the movie only focus on Peter dealing with all NWH aftermath

Feels weird Kate bishop is not in the new daredevil series as a cameo or something when they are doing the whole fisk anti-vigilante task force since she def was doing some hawkeye stuff before she meets kamala in the marvels
Maybe she could cameo? I think Kamala is also technically a vigilante and more than that she's assembling a team of vigilantes, which would also confuse things if Born Again tackles that storyline.
But I think we have to see what happens in Born Again since the script has been completely revamped. And the Defenders are making appearances so the cast is already jampacked.

If I had to pitch a Marvel TV miniseries for Disney+, it would be a 'Bucky becomes the mentor to the Young Avengers' story with the following starting lineup:
Kamala Khan
America Chavez
Eli Bradley
Peter Parker
Billy Kaplan
Kate Bishop
Yelena is also there because she follows Kate around everywhere to make sure she doesn't get killed (and because she likes pretending to 'help' train the recruits while annoying the shit out of Bucky all the time). There is a recurring joke about how Kate is out of place in the group because she's 22 and therefore not technically a 'young' Avenger.
Kate/Yelena QPR arc because. Duh.
Having Eli on the team would also be a way to explore the unfinished business between Bucky and Isaiah, and delve a little bit deeper into their history as well as their very similar experiences. Perhaps Bucky mentoring Eli to eventually become Patriot will help heal some of the rift and pain there.
Kamala is ridiculously excited about literally everything and so stoked to be a Young Avengers recruit, learn more about how to control her powers, and do 'real hero stuff'. Kamala quickly becomes Bucky's favourite (though he'll never admit it).
Listening to America explaining how her powers work is more brain-melting than Hydra's electric shock chair, but they're very impressive to look at.
Sam cameos a few times to 'impart wisdom' and get into arguments with Bucky over the finer points of strategy and mission tactics.
It'd also pick up some plot threads from Black Widow, Hawkeye, TFATWS, WandaVision, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as we dig deeper into the teenagers' motivations and backgrounds for wanting to be a hero.
Lots of chaos. Lots of found family. Lots of 'reluctant grump adopts several traumatized children and teaches them to believe in themselves and their capacity for good' trope. Maybe Bucky also finds himself believing he has the capacity to do good, too.

Some observations about The Power of the Doctor. Not including and Thasmin stuff because I tackled that yesterday.
Firstly, I suspect how much people enjoyed the episode depends on if they have seen Classic Doctor Who. I grew up on Doctor who and absolutely loved all the classic stuff. Ace and Tegan had some great content and there was some great references. Chinball had previously brought back the Masters Classic Who tissue convertor, something which poor Tegan knows all about. Ace has always been a favourite Classic Who companion of mine and seeing her effectively shut the Master down when he was being a little shit was great. I know a few people have asked why there needed to be Daleks as they didn't really matter to the plot. Listen, the Daleks were literally only there so Ace could hit them with a bat, insult them and blow them up with nitro nine. That's reason enough for me.
Seeing the old Doctor's again made me leap from my seat. The 60th special next tear seems like its going to lean more to New Doctor Who with Tennants and Tate's return (with what appears to be a Classic villain). Therefore, I am glad that Chinball took the decision to honour Classic Who in this special. It makes sense really, as he has nodded more to Classic Who in general than the other show runners.
In terms of the Classic Doctor's, it was great that Paul got another outing as the eight Doctor and I love all his Big Finish Audio Stories. I think I was particularly pleased to see Colin Baker though. Colin may not have always had the best writers during his tenure in Doctor Who, but he was still a great Doctor. He also loves Doctor Who and loves the fact he got to be part of it. He is a gem at conventions and was really supportive of Jodie and openly but back at critics. He even turned up at a con in a Thirteenth Doctor cos play outfit. I was delighted that he got to return and its was poignant to me that it was in Jodies last episode. Also, I went to a panel with these four in Telford and they actually bicker like that in real life!
There was a much older reference to Classic Who, with the Doctor being made to have a forced regeneration for a second time. The first time was enacted by the Time Lords on the Second Doctor, forcing him to regenerate into the Third Doctor and confining him to Earth. The final nod to Classic Who was to have a brief cameo by other companions at their Companions Anonymous meeting at the end. It was lovely to see Jo and Mel and more amazing still to see Ian, a companion of the first Doctor. Let's hope we see them again in a UNIT spin off.
Talking of UNIT...how awesome is Kate Stewart? Chinball gave her some great stuff in this episode including a lovely moment were she finally got to go in the TARDIS. He also gave me the scare of the episode when I thought she might actually get converted into a cyberman. This was particularly emotional because at the end of season 8 Missy turned her dad, the Brigadier, into a cyberman (albeit after he was already dead). Kate's time in the Tardis with the companions also gave us a New Who reference, with everyone gathered around the centre console and pressing something at the same time like in Season 4 episode Journeys End. Perhaps a nod at the Ten and Donna specials that are to follow.
I have really enjoyed John Bishop as Dan and I like the fact he walked away of his own accord, rather like Graham and Ryan did, to focus on living his life on Earth. It was also nice to know that Yaz, having lost her Doctor, would have the support of him, Graham and other past companions. It was great to see Graham back and his interaction with Ace was funny.
There was a nod to Capaldi's era, with the Doctor being trapped in a Dalek casing. In season 9 Missy trapped Clara in one and during the same episode we saw twelve riding round in the Dalek casing of Davros. It was interesting how few references there were to Thirteens own era apart from the continuing story line with the Master. We had Graham, the Fugitive Doctor (in the form of a holographic cameo) and we had Vindor. I am not sure what Vindor brought to the table to be honest, other than a gun, and his story line was rounded of nicely and very recently at the end if the Flux. I personally would have brought back Angstrom from The Ghost Monument as an earlier Thirteenth Doctor reference. There were other tiny references too, for example, Yaz pushed the Master/Doctor over in a very similar way we saw Thiteen do in Season 12, although perhaps with even more malice. What we didn't see was any continuation of the Timeless Child storyline. It seems that for now, that story has concluded with the Doctor hiding the locket in the TARDIS, ready to be picked up and resumed at a future date if one of the showrunners fancy it.
Although the episode was largely used as a celebration of Classic Who, it did provide a fabulous platform for all three outgoing stars. Despite my confusion about were he fits in the timeline (i still refuse to believe its after Missy 🤣) Sasha has been a great Master. He has that great ability to be completely unhinged but also somehow charming, relatable and a bit pitiful all at the same time. This episode really allowed him to have at it and by god did he have at it. From the creepy manipulative calmness of Rasputin to his normal unhinged, sarcastic biting self. Then to the sheer wild childish joy of success at becoming the Doctor, whose outfit he wore very well by the way. Oh, and let's be honest, no one one is going to forget him boogieng around the Winter Palace dressed as Rasputin to Boney M's classic 'Ra Ra Rasputin' in a hurry. What a great way for him to sign off as the Master.
For Jodie and Thirteen it was also a great sign off. It showcased Thirteens ingenuity and energy (and love if Holograms) but most importantly it showcased how Thirteen has grown and evolved and what Jodies Doctor has been all about. It is a Doctor who has embrassed family whilst also simultaneously holding them at arms length. It is a Doctor who has fallen in love but learnt the lessons from the past and not acted upon it. Its a Doctor that takes responsibility for her mistakes and doesn't run from them. It's a Doctor who, although saddened by the fact she is going to regenerate, stands out to watch the sunrise and says "tag your it" rather than something arrogant and selve serving. To be honest the episode showcased why, despite some ropey writing at times, I have loved Thirteen and Jodie's portrayal of her.
Out of the three of them the episode probably showcased Yaz the most. Rather like in the Flux when she was separated from the Doctor, Yaz is resourceful enough and has the sheer willpower to solve problems and think outside of the box. The way she outfoxed the Master and undid the forced regeneration was super. Yaz is also very brave and again this was showcased, especially when she dashed out into danger to get the Doctor and carry her back to the TARDIS. Mandip had a lot to sink her teeth into and did really well with all the action and high energy moments. It was probably the quieter moments that really played to her strengths though. Mandip has a great range if facial expressions and it was the subtle moments of fear, confusion, contemplation, pain and realisation that she really stood out. She doesn't have to have a lot of lines to 'say' a lot. This really shone through in five key moments. Firstly, when Tegan said 'we used to be you', and you could see the cogs turning in Yaz's head. Secondly, the moment she exits the TARDIS after the forced regeneration and its the Master skipping around in Thirteens outfit. Yaz keeps herself calm but you can see all the fear, pain and anger in her eyes. Thirdly, you have the moment Yaz realises why the cloister bells are ringing. Yaz has done everything she can to save her Doctor but realises she is going to loose her regardless. Again it's a quiet pain, a resigned pain and hard to watch without wanting to cry for her. This quiet pain is repeated on top of the TARDIS when she mainly just listens to Thirteen talk, taking in their final moments together. There is also a bit of a shocked numbness there that carries into the fifth moment. As she sits around with all the other companions she is silent until directly asked a question. In her answer she is resolute despite the hurt. The Doctor will be fine, they will move forward with a new face and there will always be another companion or fam to take care of them.
So yeah, I really enjoyed the episode. I can understand why those who haven't watched Classic Who or haven't enjoyed Thirteenth's era would dislike it though. Unfortunately, if you were watching it for plot alone then quite frankly you were watching it for the wrong reasons. It was very much an anniversary episode and when you throw in the fact it was a regeneration episode too it was always going to have different priorities. What it did have was lots of loved characters, lots of energy, lots of joy, lots of pain and lots of top notch special effects. That'll do me just ace thanks 😉

Book ask: 1, 10, 17, 25
1, How many books did you read this year? ...That depends. As for the act of reading a book, I started and finished 62 books so far (and I expect to finish at least like 5 more). If we count individual books... a little over 50? Because I read every book I translate at least twice (once to translate, and another time to proofread the translation).
10, What was your favorite new release of the year? Rebecca Ross: Divine Rivals, no question. ...Okay, apparently The Agency for Scandal came out in early January, so that's a very close second.
17, Did any books surprise you with how good they were? Luanne G. Smith: The Vine Witch. I was a little skeptical about it at first, and I almost DNF'd it after the first chapter (because the main character was a toad in the first chapter, I hate toads, and that chapter gave me a visceral reaction), but then it became absolutely intriguing and I found myself loving the worldbuilding. Ashley Polston: Bishop Takes King. So this is a YA book about Kate Bishop with other Marvel heroes cameoing, and look: I've read a bunch of Marvel novels, and most of them are middling at best. So my expectations going in were... modest. But damn, this was great. Okay, so the conflict was a bit convoluted, but the writing was great, the author really got the characters, it was absolutely witty, and she was also good at the action scenes! Absolutely recommend. B.B. Alston: Amari and the Night Brothers/and the Great Game. I wouldn't have read those if I hadn't been contracted to translate the latter, but they were just an absolute delight. Katharine McGee: American Royals. I expected total ditzy, then it had a surprising depth.
25, What reading goals do you have for the next year? I haven't decided yet :'D

Oh yeah!
The Kate Bishop cameo was totally unexpected, but yes. Let her and Kamala build their own team. ❤

Fic Stats Tag Game
I was tagged by @42donotpanic and @polizwrites to make this fun thing! All data are up to today, 31/07/2023.
Rules: Give us the links to your fics with the most hits, most kudos, most comments, most bookmarks, most words, and least words.
Most hits: Purple painted golden, is a Yelena Belova/Kate Bishop A/B/O fic I wrote for an exchange, which also was my first time writing for his pairing (Hits: 4,007, Explicit, 838 words). It follows the story of Yelena realising her feelings for her best friend, courting her, and their first time together after their first date.
Most kudos: this is also Purple painted golden with 209 kudos, followed by Don't speak (Kudos: 142, Teen, 1,7k words). This is a Bucky/Sam as co-workers, who happened to kiss during a mission and that forced them to face their feelings for each other. And it ensues a lot more kissing; it’s part of my We'll figure things out when we stop making out series! (currently 6 works and 8,1k words)
Most comments: one of my Bucky/John Walker fics, No, it is easier said than done! (Comment Threads: 10 (20 comments), Teen, 1,1k words) This follows Bucky waking up after a post-mission surgery and finding out John has spent all the time by his side at the hospital (mutual pining + first kiss). It includes a cameo from my beloved Ava Starr!
Most bookmarks: again, it’s also Purple painted golden with 29 bookmarks, followed by Fate's Tricky Ways (Bookmarks: 27, Teen, 2,5k words). This is a Bucky/Sam A/B/O story in which Bucky and Sam stays at the compound while everyone else is on a mission, and with pre-heat symptoms, Sam asks Alpha!Bucky for help (mutual pining + cuddling)
Most words: Thinking Back To Your Laugh, Your Smell And Skin (Words: 11,898, Explicit, Chapters: 5/5), one of my fics for the Silver Fox Steve Valentine's Exchange 2023! It’s a No Powers AU story in which Steve and Sam are co-workers, and Steve asks Sam to go as his fake boyfriend to his brother [Bucky]’s wedding. This brings out some feelings for each other (secret crush + fluff and smut)
Least words: Almost everything in my Drabble Collection has 100 words (a total of 12,200 words and 60 works in the collection, mostly MCU). My first drabble was Midgardian god, a Darcy Lewis & Sif Thor missing scene (Words: 100, General)
Tagging some friends and anyone who wants to participate (and no pressure if you don’t, plus apologies if you’ve already been tagged :) @scottxlogan @mischief-and-tea-by-the-sea @andrea1717 @otpcutie
