ʙᴇᴛᴛᴇʀ ᴏꜰꜰ
pairing(s): maddy perez x fem!reader (no pronouns used.)
warning(s): angst? arguing? none technically. old fic meaning old ass writing.
summary: you can't understand why Maddy won't save your failing relationship
part two. (coming soon!)
────────✬────────
you were laid against fezco's couch while you, him, and rue shared a blunt. tv on, with a random movie blaring from it. you don't know, you weren't really paying attention. maddy was clouding your mind as she usually did.
you had your sixth argument alone this week. you were tired—you couldn't understand. everything was fine. you were fine—more than fine, you were happy. so was maddy or at least you thought because all she seemed to do was start an argument lately. the weirdest part: she'd get even more mad when you tried to deescalate the situation and understand her.
"i think jules is cheating on me." rue announced, blowing smoke from her nose.
"oh word?" fezco let out while I was hummed in response.
was that it? was maddy cheating on you? no. you held her too high to think of her doing that.
"she’a been hanging with elliot a lottt." rue dragged her words.
"maybe you should ask her..." you trail off.
“you know, communicate.”
"yea’ that's word. communication is key." you both turn to fezco.
"when have you been in a relationship?" rue asked the question you were both thinking.
"don’t worry about me—I know a little some." you snort, you loved fez. you knew if you needed anything he had you.
"yo, there's this weird ass old guy out back." everyone looked at ashtray who held a shotgun in his hands.
"fuck, man."
fez stood and turned to both of you, "y'all should head out."
you didn't ask any questions, standing up you made your way to the door. rue behind you as well, grumbling about how she was comfortable.
"you need a ride?" you asked the Bennett.
"nah I got a bike."
maddy's house was on the way to yours so you figured why not stop by. you weren't in the mood to argue so you thought maybe you could get her relaxed and watch a movie.
you knocked on the door a totaled or three times before her mom open it,
"y/n?" she seemed oddly surprised to see you.
"hey mrs.perez, is maddy here?"
"yeah, she's in her room." she pointed to the familiar stairs, stepping aside to let you.
you followed the route upstairs, knocking on the bedroom door twice before peaking your head in. maddy on her bed, phone to her ear. her eyes met you face and she rolled her eyes before telling whoever (assumed Cassie) on the phone she'd call them later.
"hey—I was on my way home and wanted to stop by, hope you don't min—
"come here." you followed, closing the door behind you. surprisingly, she pulled you into a hug, after placing a kiss on the corner of your mouth.
"listen, I don't wanna argu—
"were you smoking?" she questioned, sniffing your shirt that had a light scent of weed.
"yeah, just a little." you mutter already having an idea where this was going.
"you've been doing it a lot—and you've been hanging with rue."
"i’m not on that shit, maddy. just some weed and light drinking. just to relax." you huff at her accusation.
"drinking too? what? you gonna end of like my dad AND rue?" here you go.
"maddy—"
"you’re so fucking selfish." here come the insults.
“i do it because of you!" you blurt of out, voice rising.
"me? no you do because you're fucking self and only think about yourself. god—i should've known when i found you were friends with rue and fez."
you perk up, pointing your finger. “they're good people. don’t you fucking look down on them."
you weren't normally defensive but you weren't gonna let her shit talk your people.
"look, maddy, i didn't come here for this shit. so call me when you get your head on right, bro." you stood, trying to exit of the door you came in but maddy’s hand caught your wrist.
"stay."
"i just—
"we can watch a movie." she gave you doe eyes and you contemplated for a second.
if you stay you know you'd probably argue again but there's also a chance you can be civil. but that was a 75 to 35 ratio
"please, baby."
you sigh, sitting back down.

Madeleine Perez had always been a force to be reckoned with. From an early age, she'd always been certain of herself and it shone through her confidence. She was the pretty popular girl with equally pretty popular friends. The cheerleader who dated the star quarterback. The girl who got everything she wanted one way or another.
Or, well, she had almost everything she wanted.
(Y/N) Daley. She'd barely given him a single thought growing up. He'd always been in the background, just another classmate and neighbor who blended in and stayed out of the more popular friend circles. Then, he changed from classmate to project buddy and it blossomed from there.
Maddy loved the attention. She loved the knowledge that she was wanted by others. Nate bruised her ego, he always did eventually, but it'd mend when she locked lips with some random guy who looked at her as if she were an angel that walked the Earth. Guys chased after her with hopes of getting with one of the prettiest girls in school and in hopes of finally one-upping Nate Jacobs. (Y/N) had been one of those guys. His head would turn when she walked by. He'd perk up when she spoke to him. He allowed her to dance around the subject of a relationship. He took the shoulder checks from Nate Jacobs when his friendship with her became known. And then, that disappeared, suddenly and abruptly the attention she had grown to desire and look forward to vanished.
Not knowing knawed away at her like an anxiety she'd never experienced before. Nate always made her feel small during their fights, made her feel like a lost child looking for their home. He always made her worry, always ran circles in her mind each night. But this time, it'd been (Y/N) fucking Daley doing all those things. It hadn't been until Cassie, confused and concerned at her side, asked a simple yet heart-stopping question.
"Maddy, do... do you think you love him?" She'd asked, voice soft and delicate as she ran her fingers through Maddy's raven locks. Maddy's body had stiffened, her whole body tensing at the mere mention of love. It had made Cassie backtrack and switch topics, but the question weighed heavy on her mind. She loved Nate. Or, she thought she did at least. He was everything she needed. Well-off, popular, good family, good future. She'd never have to work a day in her life with him, just as she always wanted. But did she actually want Nate or did she desire the life he could provide her?
Maddy couldn't concentrate, even with a bottle of cheap beer in one hand and BB's vape in the other. She stared at the swarm of teenagers grinding and dancing together, drunken voices singing along to a generic song playing over the speakers. Her nail clinked against the brown glass, a slow rhythm as her hawk eyes searched for his familiar face. Cassie stood at her side, phone in hand and her bright screen illuminating her face as she frantically typed. Likely another fight with McKay. Kat stood at her other side, her phone also in hand but awaiting a message. Finally, her phone vibrated.
"Okay, Ethan says they're he-" Maddy passed the beer and vape off to a barely conscious BB and walked forward, those with sober minds immediately stepping out of the way for her. She slipped around the tipsy and drunk ones, calling out sharp 'excuse me's and 'move's until she reached the less crowded front door and watched with bated breath. It creaked open and Ethan stepped through with his phone clutched tightly to his chest. His brother followed with his phone in hand as well, his brows dipped and eyes focused on the screen in deep concentration.
"Hey, Maddy." Ethan greeted, trying to sound casual but the high-pitched end to his greeting failed him. She plastered a fake smile for him and motioned over her shoulder in the direction of Kat, watching him nod in thanks and disappear into the crowd. (Y/N) lifted his head and dragged his eyes away from his phone at Ethan's movements, lips jutting out in slight offense at his brother's abandonment. His head tilted in her direction and they locked eyes, prompting her to glide over to him.
"Why do I feel like you're avoiding me?" She asked, arching one brow and folding her arms over her chest. She'd chosen a good dress, the dress that always drew eyes to her wherever she went. (Y/N)'s eyes, however, remained on her face and his casual shrug made her skin prickle. Her arms fell to her sides and she groaned, catching his arm and pulling him down a lonely hallway. He grunted quietly but otherwise didn't protest.
It was foreign territory. Maddy Perez wasn't one to beg or chase or be tripped up over a guy. No, she was the one who turned the other cheek and moved on to the next prize that would have Nate doing all those things for her. Yet, there she was, standing in the middle of a dimly lit hallway because a guy- her crush- had decided to ignore her. How the mighty fall.
"Why are you so worked up, Mads? We're... classmates who occasionally flirt. This is just flirting. This will always be just flirting."
"That's not what you used to say."
"No, it's what you used to say." She blinked, and then her heart sank into the pits of her stomach. "Why would I waste my time when you're always going to go back to Nate? I'm the rebound, remember? The guy you to go when Nate leaves and then ditch when he comes back. I'm not mad about it, Mads. I'm just treating you how you've always treated me."
"I-"
"And I prefer it this way."

All her fault
Maddy Perez x Fem!Reader
Summary: You went to surprise Maddy but ended up finding out she was cheating.
Warnings: Angst angst angst! Death, crying, cheating, swearing, not proofread.
Tumblr media
Nothing special was happening today, you just wanted to hangout with your girlfriend like any normal couple would do. She had also been acting a bit strange lately, strange in the sense that she was being distant and then super clingy when she comes back from hangouts with her friends. She was normally a clingy person but she said she was hanging out with Cassie or Kat, but when she came back she was clingy times a thousand, not normal Maddy clingy. It was like she was on and off with you and you didn't understand why. Maybe you could get some answers today though.
You arrived at her doorstep with a gift bag in your hand, it was filled with her favorite snacks and some other small gifts that you knew she would love. You pressed your fingertip against the doorbell and waited for a moment, but no one came to the door. Her car was there though so you knew she was home, there was another car too that you assumed was her parents. You were never at her house while her parents were there, so maybe this was your chance to meet them finally.
You pressed the button again and waited, but once again, no one answered the door. Maybe she was in her room and couldn't hear? You didn't overthink anything or worry too much because you trusted Maddy more than anything. You walked to the side of her house to look through her window. Not in a creepy stalker way! Just to see that she was home.
Nothing could've prepared you for what you had seen through that window. Your girlfriend making out with Nate fucking Jacobs. God fucking damnit. In this moment, it felt like the world came crashing down on you, your heart truly shattered. All the trust you had for this girl. All the energy you put in. All the love you had shown. Was it all for nothing? It was so hard to process. So many emotions and feelings ran through you at once and you didn't even know what to do.
You were staring at the window, mouth slightly agape as tears burned your eyes. You quickly moved away from the window and went back to your car, but the tears, the feelings, and all the emotions, didn't fade. You contemplated for a moment on what to do which led you to deciding that it was best to go to Kat. Kat has been your best friend since middle school and you guys were inseparable.
Your hands tightly gripped the steering wheel as you reversed out of her driveway. When you finally got on the main road, all the emotions started to flood again and those broken sobs you had been holding back, escaped from your lips. You decided it was best to call Kat to let her know you were going to her house. You grabbed your phone and clicked on her contact, it only rang for about 2 seconds before a voice could be heard on the other end.
"Hey y/n, what's up?"You tried to form a sentence but only a sob could be heard."Y/n? Is everything okay? What's wrong?" Kat spoke in a concerned tone. Obviously very worried about her best friend.
"She's been cheating on me, Kat... with Nate..." Your voice sounded so broken and it pained her to hear you like this.
"Are you serious? Oh my god... I'm so sorry. Um... come over to my house so we can talk about what to do and we can have a little movie day to make you feel better. That sound okay?"
Honestly, anything was better than thinking about Maddy and even though you would still feel heavy from all the negative emotions, being around Kat and watching movies would be way better. You were already on you way to her house because no matter what, she would drop everything and put you first. You were almost at her house, literally on the street that she lives on and she knew because of how you guys shared locations.
"Yeah, I'm almost there anywa-"
All that could be heard from Kat's phone was a loud crash sound. You had been too distracted by everything and you were also crying, you didn't notice the driver that t-boned into the side of your car. There was glass flying everywhere and unfortunately for you, the car ran into the side you were sitting on. Your ears rang and everything went black. This wasn't the type of unconsciousness where you knew you were about to wake up. You knew you wouldn’t recover from this, the impact was too hard and you felt everything slip away.
"Y/n? Are you okay? What just happened?" She knew that something was wrong when you didn't respond so her panic only grew further. She called your name out multiple times until the line disconnected. She ran out of her house and say the collision in the distance. The faint sound of sirens grew closer as the ambulances quickly arrived. Kat ran to your car, but before she could do anything, the paramedics had to push her back to they could get to you. They brought your lifeless body into the ambulance and did everything they could.
Kat was in tears at this point, she rode in the ambulance with you and the multiple paramedics. The whole ride was a blur for her because of how worried she was. She ended up calling Maddy, who picked up surprisingly fast.
"Hey Kat!" She said enthusiastically, extending the "A" in her name as she spoke. She was clearly in a good mood.
"Why the fuck would you cheat on her?!" Kat's emotions were getting the best of her right now, she was yelling at Maddy who was confused, but Kat spoke up again before Maddy could get another word in. "This is all your fucking fault!"
"What the fuck are you talking about, Kat? Don't get all bitchy with me..." She spoke with her usual attitude.
"She found out you were cheating with Nate and she was upset and was driving to my house, she got in a fucking accident and now she's going to the hospital!" She was upset and angry, she hung up before Maddy could get a word in. Maddy tried calling and texting Kat multiple times, but she eventually gave up and drove to the hospital. It took her about 20 minutes, but when she arrived she saw Kat in the waiting room.
Maddy had tears in her eyes as she walked over to Kat. "Where is she?" Kat pointed to the hallway at one of the rooms. "No one is allowed in, Maddy..." Maddy silently cursed herself for this, she still did care for y/n.
"I don't understand why you would do that to her, she loved you and cared so much about you. She trusted you more than everything and you took advantage of that..." Kat's voice was quiet this time, she was terrified for what may happen next and so disappointed in Maddy. Maddy had nothing to say in return, there was nothing to say. The silence spoke enough for her. The regret and guilt she felt was truly overwhelming and she wished she could take it all back. They both sat in silence for a bit, until a doctor approached them.
"I'm so sorry..." He said apologetically and sadly. "We did everything we could but the impact was too bad..." Maddy gasped quietly, she stared at the floor letting everything process until a sob broke the silence. She looked over at Kat who had tears streaming down her face.
Someone they both cared for deeply, gone. Gone because of that horrible fucking situation. Gone because of Maddy. It was all her fault...
A/N: i literally can't fall asleep anymore so im exhausted also the ending is so bad oml i didnt know how to finish it 😭 this was requested so long ago too so im sorry for taking so long, i promise i will try to get better at writing quicker 🙏

Gathering the multiple party-sized bags into your arms, you peered over the top of them as you followed Lexi out of the kitchen and into the living room where the girls had gathered around. From the flush on Cassie's cheek and the way Maddy and Kat giggled, Suze must've told a helluva story. Lexi carefully balanced the small cups of dippings with one arm and began setting them down on the coffee table alongside the scattered candy wrappers and beer cans.
"Finally," Maddy groaned, wiping her lips free of beer and reaching for one of the tortilla chip bags you held. She ripped it open and dug inside, pulling two chips free and eagerly dipping them into the guacamole. She did a blissful shimmy when she munched on the chips and happily went in for more chips.
"So, (Y/N)," Kat began with a wicked grin, her eyes watching you set the rest of the bags down on the table. You glanced at her questionably and settled down nicely beside Cassie, already feeling ganged up on from the way Maddy and BB turned to Kat expectantly. She took her time, sipping on her beer and taking a bite out of a chip before continuing. "I heard that you and Tammy Lewis were getting a little cozy at the movies last Sunday."
"What?!" Maddy nearly shrieked with a mouthful of chips, her head whipping around to look at you with wide eyes. "You dick! Why didn't you tell us?"
The guys at school who constantly badgered you with questions as to how you could've possibly managed to land a spot in a friend group consisting of the prettiest popular cheerleaders in school had no clue the type of torture you'd been under since 6th grade.
It'd all started one fateful afternoon during lunchtime when the snotty boy in front of you had made fun of Kat and tried to flee before Maddy could lay into him. It'd been instinctive how you stuck your leg out and sent him toppling to the floor. The humiliation of not only falling in front of half the school combined with getting a bloody nose had made the boy cry and you'd been given a couple days of suspension. When you returned afterward, you'd been formally invited to sit with the girls at lunch by none other than Madeleine Perez.
From then on, the girls kept you around and you were quickly dubbed the luckiest guy in school, even if you viewed all the girls as sisters and they treated you like a baby brother they liked dressing up and cooing over. But along with the territory of brother, came the gossip, drama, and the fact every single person you vaguely showed interest in had to be approved by the council.
"It's not serious, Mads, I swear. It's just.... dating. We're not together."
"Not yet." BB cooed, exhaling a breath of smoke and snickering when you groaned.
"Tammy Lewis," Maddy murmured and leaned back into the cushion of the couch with squinted eyes. "She's pretty, I guess."
"She's failing English," Kat added, "Like kindergarten reading comprehension type of failing."
"I think she's sweet." Lexi piped in, cradling a cola can in her hands and shrugging her shoulders.
"It's not serious," You groaned again. "I would've told you guys if it were, I swear! It was just one date and nothing happened."
Maddy squinted again. "Nothing? Not even a little kiss?"
"Maybe... maybe like one kiss-"
"And you didn't tell us?!" Maddy shrieked again and grabbed a pillow, tossing it over the coffee table and hitting you square in the chest. Unnaturally quiet Cassie laughed, albeit forced and slightly awkward, and retrieved the pillow before it could go tumbling to the floor. You glanced at the blonde, finally noting her lack of input but decided to leave it for later rather than put her on the spot.
The rest of the night had been the same as others, with a couple movies put on the TV until the girls ultimately passed out either on the floor or the couch. Suze ensured everyone had blankets and pillows as she called up the parents to alert them their kids would be staying over before she retreated upstairs to her bedroom with one last glass of wine in hand.
You'd been curled up on the end of the couch on the brink of dozing off until the feeling of someone slipping by startled you awake and you caught Cassie slipping into the kitchen. You yawned and rubbed the sleep out of your eyes, tugging the blanket over your shoulders and shuffling after her into the kitchen.
"Oh, hey," She greeted quietly, taking a water bottle out of the fridge and drinking from it.
"You okay?" You questioned and leaned against one of the counters, trying to fight the exhaustion from clouding your brain. Cassie brushed some loose strands of hair back and took another sip of water, the look on her face conflicted. Cassie confided in you all the time, whether about guys or her mother, so her hesitation seemed odd.
"When were you going to tell me you were seeing someone?" She asked quietly, running her finger over the rim of the bottle. "I thought I was the first person you told about that stuff."
"You've got a lot on your plate already, Cass. I thought it'd be better to let you recover from... everything." Your eyes flickered down to her belly. She'd hardly been able to tell the girls about it when she found out, seeing as Maddy and Kat had gotten into it and angered each other that day. McKay had known, of course he had, but he hadn't been the one she called when the procedure had been over and done with.
"I... I'm fine, (Y/N). I'm past it. I'm past McKay. He didn't make me feel... special or loved or.. beautiful. I know that's how love is supposed to make you feel. It- It shouldn't make you feel like shit." Cassie said, setting the bottle aside and turning to face you. Her eyes softened and then began to glisten with tears. You frowned and moved the blanket from your shoulders, taking a step closer and wrapping it around her instead. "He wasn't the one for me... but what if you're the one for me?"
