When the future looks dark and they have nobody to help them, of course people are gonna turn to something out of desperation! Why do think Aum Shin-whatever got started?! And what do we do? We punish them for it. If you really think making them hurt worse for the bad things they did just because you wanna feel some sense of justice, maybe you’re the naïve one then!

Smithy was looking at memories of what happened in the past. “But they will not succeed in this state,” he said. “Sir if you would calm down and allow me to….” Said R.O.B. “Shhhhh,” said Smithy, “Everything will be fine.” He somehow managed to temporarily shut down R.O.B. Some kind of essence started to go inside of the prototype of the project we were working on. The arm started to move and take hold of the hammer.

general opinions: I think the boys have done really well tackling Lup’s character, from concept to execution. This is speaking as a cis girl myself, of course, but like, I’m just kind of in awe at how tactfully she is addressed, and what a FUN character she is at the end of the day! The voice has been worked to absolute perfection, props to Griffin (and Justin obvs for the original inspiration), and I just... I’m so worried. Because I KNOW things don’t end well for her and I worry every day about my twins. Don’t hurt her, Griffin. Not after she just got the best day ever.

ASOOT Timeline: September 2012 (A Normal Day)

Gotta love when you can fit an entire arc into a single day. But this is just the beginning of a whole new era of madness.–Timeline Anon

September 7:

Today is Chiaki’s first day back at school after her injury. (She was operating under the cover story that she fell and tore her muscle.) She has fun fluffy romantic times with Hajime and Hiyoko. Hiyoko is reluctant to kiss Chiaki and wants to talk about her issues at lunchtime.

Umeko leaves her long-range detector running to make sure the signals from the two unknown time travelers stick around. She plans to cross-reference it according to everyone’s location.

Monaca, with Kyoji’s help, designs a smaller, more portable version of Umeko’s detector that can be mass-produced and easily hidden. Kyoji is planning to create an organic body for Sora. He tells Monaca about his relationship with Miaya: they were close friends at Hope’s Peak, and although they never dated, they did kiss four times. But they also had to deal with their terror-causing classmate, Maverick Storm. Eventually, he blew up their classroom. Miaya was paralyzed, Storm was arrested, and Kyoji dropped out of school soon afterwards because he couldn’t take being part of the Kamakura Project anymore. Now, he’s afraid to resume contact with Miaya because he doesn’t want to screw up her life any further.

Taira is daydreaming about Ayame when Byakuya talks to her about Kasugano. He heard about what happened to Genocider Syo, finds Kasugano interesting, and is thinking about going after him. He also already knows that he will be in Class 78 at Hope’s Peak.

Yoruko and Sora engage in cute couple antics. Sora is looking forward to getting her own body.

At lunchtime, Hiyoko confides her family issues to the rest of the Cuddle Puddle. She’s the heiress to the Saionji Clan, which has been the head of the school of traditional Japanese dance for generations, and because of this, she lives with her grandmother. She hasn’t seen her beloved father in almost three years. Her grandmother is all about tradition and constantly lectures Hiyoko about carrying on the family legacy; she’s also racist, homophobic, and wants Hiyoko to find a (wealthy, proper) husband before she’s 20. The chances of her being okay with Hiyoko’s current relationship are not good. Hiyoko kisses Chiaki and declares that her grandmother can’t do anything about it while she’s at Hope’s Peak. 

The Cuddle Puddle are making plans to meet after school at Chiaki’s house, (where Hiyoko will cook a family recipe for them) when they run into Yasuke. They’re all on edge, of course, and Yasuke is suspicious that Hajime, a Reserve Course student, is hanging around Ultimates. The group takes their leave, but not before Yasuke tells Hiyoko that he heard that she got kidnapped and that he’s glad she didn’t die. He also tells the group “try not to die.”

Iroha and Jataro hang out with the Naegi siblings. Iroha wants to ask Makoto out on a date, but she’s nervous about it. Komaru and Iroha play Fabio Kart, and they bet on the outcome: if Komaru wins, Iroha has to buy her the first few volumes of The Bomb Inside Her, and if Iroha wins, Makoto has to go out on a date with her. Komaru wins just as the Naegi’ parents return home.

Emma goes to visit the Cuddle Puddle at Chiaki’s house. They invite her to join them for the dinner that Hiyoko will cook later, and she accepts. While Hajime and Hiyoko are busy buying ingredients, Chiaki, Mikan, Hibiki, Sonia, and Emma take a hot bath together. Emma opens up to the girls about her past and shows them the cigarette burn scars on her arms, and Mikan similarly shows her own scars from her past. Emma and Mikan hug. 

Maku and Masaru train together at the park, then decide to join Emma at Chiaki’s house for dinner. Emma welcomes them into the house. Shortly afterwards, Hajime and Hiyoko return from shopping, and Hiyoko begins to cook her recipe.

Makoto takes Iroha to a convenience store to buy cup noodles. He sees the famous pop idol Sayaka Maizono on the cover of a magazine and tells Iroha that he used to go to middle school with her, although he isn’t sure if she’d remember him. Iroha finally plucks up the courage to ask Makoto out. He accepts, and they make plans for next Sunday, September 9. They hold hands on the way back to Makoto’s house.

Nikei calls Yoruko and asks her if she thinks he’s dangerous. She reassures him that she trusts him, and he admits that when Void initially formed, he didn’t see the other three as his friends and only wanted inferiors to order around so that he could be in power. Yoruko, however, thinks that he’s selling himself and the others short and that they genuinely consider him their friend, and although Nikei doesn’t get why they would, he agrees to find a time to talk further with Yoruko about this at some point.

Setsuka spots someone suspicious going in and out of police headquarters. She isn’t sure what they look like due to their heavy jacket, hat, and wig, but she gets Sora and Nikei’s help to keep an eye on things. In related news, Yoruko has noticed that one of the time travelers keeps traveling to and from Tokyo, although they never enter the city itself.

Hiyoko serves her home-cooked sukiyaki to Hajime, Chiaki, Sonia, Mikan, Hibiki, Maku, Emma, and Masaru. Everyone loves it. Hiyoko is happy, as she worked hard in order to learn how to cook over the summer.

As Kanade’s trial is coming up, she is scheduled to be moved to a more secure facility closer to the courthouse on September 9 at noon. Tsurgi and Kouhei will oversee the transfer. Sora, who is monitoring police headquarters, sees Juu talking with the suspicious person Setsuka saw earlier; he gives them a small briefcase, and they then seemingly just straight-up disappear. One emergency Quantum Crew meeting later, no one knows what’s going on, but they’re worried that whoever it is could let Kanade escape. Hajime suddenly realizes that since he and Chiaki told the twins that they were from Hope’s Peak when they met them, if Kanade broke out, she will go to Hope’s Peak for revenge. The Quantum Crew must make sure that the transfer goes smoothly and that Kanade doesn’t escape, for all their sakes.

ASOOT Timeline: June 2012 (Kanade's Waterloo)

We did it, Reddit. I finally got an update ready. Took several days of Rest and Recreation beforehand, but I got around to it eventually. I am a productive human! Anyway, who’s ready to see my recap of everyone’s least favorite serial killer getting what was coming to her? Time for the Concert Arc to hit its climax!–Timeline Anon

July 6:

Hajime stops by the twins’ hotel room first thing in the morning and asks Kanade (who is the only twin awake) if she would like to go back to the mall with him to get souvenirs. She accepts, and they leave together. 

Later, at 11:50 AM, Hibiki is woken up by the sound of Chiaki knocking on the door. Chiaki asks if she’s seen Hajime, and Hibiki vaguely remembers his earlier departure with Kanade. The two girls agree to go look for their companions at the mall. Chiaki uses the two-way speaker to update Hajime.

At 12:20 PM, Hajime and Kanade get to talking during their shopping spree. Kanade says that Hibiki is the only real family she has (since their parents aren’t around much), but although the twins love each other, Hibiki also resents Kanade for being better at her than everything, which is why she picks on her so often. Kanade sometimes loses on purpose because she wants Hibiki to love her. Once they’re done shopping, Hajime claims that he has to go back to Hope’s Peak, and Kanade agrees to walk with him to his car.

Chiaki and Hibiki arrive at the mall at 12:25 PM, and shortly afterwards, they run into Mikan and Gundham. Introductions are had, compliments regarding the concert are shared, and Chiaki ducks off with an excuse that she has to use the bathroom. The others wait for her. As soon as she’s alone, Chiaki calls Yoruko and tells her where Hibiki, Mikan, and Gundham are.

Hajime and Kanade reach the parking lot just around 12:39 PM. Hajime has been telling Kanade stories about himself, and she asks to hear one more story before he goes. After making sure that no one else is around, he obliges by telling her the story of how he figured out the identity of the twins’ stalker. Through a series of logical deductions based on his interview with the twins, the circumstances of the incidents, the victims’ connection to Hibiki, and the culprit’s intuitive knowledge of Hibiki’s feelings, he concludes that Kanade is the culprit. Kanade gleefully confesses everything in a villainous monologue about how she killed or maimed everyone that ever got too close to Hibiki (around 60 people in total!), all because she wants to keep her sister for herself. Due to all these traumatic occurences, Hibiki has become emotionally weak, relying on Kanade for everything, and when she’s under enough mental stress, she even goes into a “puppet state” where she’ll only listen to Kanade’s commands. Kanade’s ultimate goal is to make Hibiki’s puppet state permanent. With her motive rant done, Kanade prepares to kill Hajime, only for it to be revealed that Hajime is using his two-way speaker to record her whole confession and, with Chiaki’s help, broadcast it to everyone in the mall via their public announcement system.

Sure enough, everyone in the mall hears Kanade’s confession, and they’re all shocked and horrified by her true nature. Tsurugi orders her immediate arrest and is directed to the parking lot by an anonymous call from Yoruko. No one is more shocked and horrified than Hibiki herself, who takes the news so poorly that she retreats into her puppet state. Mikan and Chiaki have to literally carry her out of the mall and to Yoruko’s van. While this is going on, Gundham plants a “shrine” at the east entrance; it features Kasugano’s symbol in blue spray paint, Hajime’s list, the poisoned box of chocolates, and a recorded message from Kasugano himself. His Four Dark Devas also cut the security cameras to protect Hajime and Co.

Kanade, furious at being exposed, chases Hajime through the parking lot with an axe and a knife. Before she can kill him, Sonia appears and gives her the one-sided beatdown of her life (because Kanade’s murders were all committed using hit-and-run tactics, her lack of experience in a real fight causes her to go down easily). Hajime and Sonia handcuff Kanade to a nearby pipe, then leave. Tsurugi and his police squadron arrive a few minutes later, and Kanade is officially arrested.

Hajime and Co all reunite and return to Hope’s Peak with a catatonic Hibiki in tow. Class 77-B has already heard about Kanade’s arrest via the news (as has Monaca, who is now a Kasugano fan), and they are glad to see that their concertgoing classmates are okay. Yoruko pleads for Chisa and Kokoro to provide help for Hibiki. Chisa goes with Yoruko to ask Jin to let Hibiki stay at Hope’s Peak, while Kokoro begins treatment immediately.

Tsurugi discovers Kasugano’s “shrine” and listens to his message, which is addressed directly to him. In it, Kasugano takes responsibility for Kanade’s downfall, offers the list as evidence to help convict her, and warns Tsurugi not to go after Hibiki. He also makes it clear that he doesn’t want to be enemies with the police.

Yoruko and Chisa talk with Jin. He agrees that Hibiki can stay at Hope’s Peak as long as no one outside the school is told about it. An old office on the third floor will be turned into Hibiki’s room.

Hajime tells Nikei and Iroha about the Kanade escapade. Nikei’s search for the Utsugis’ hotel has gotten to the point where he’s narrowed it down to no less than eleven hotels to comb through. Also, Iroha has a crush on Kasugano.

Chiaki, terrified of what could’ve happened during Hajime’s showdown with Kanade, makes Hajime promise not to do something so dangerous ever again. She stays over at his house for the night.
