Kassandra/Brasidas new chapter
Chapter7: Twist of fate
[Sneak peak]
"Forgive me, dad. I swear... he didn't touch me. I was simply cold."
That part is easier to say even though not exactly true. The soldier's hands haven’t wondered much any night. He didn't touch her anywhere except from her back which isn't anything intimate alone. She needs more than a few words to explain what happened and it would do the man no justice to claim otherwise. Nothing similar to the accusations her mother has fired at her happened between them. She remains a maiden and no act came close to change that. Hyakinthus was so gentle and decent that admitting the exchange of their first kiss would be unfair for his honor. Between the two she is the one to blame, she provoked more than he did and caused it.
"I'll return him his cloak. He must need it."
Her mouth parts in surprise. She feared her father would be furious with her recklessness. No matter how much he loves her, sneaking out at night to meet a nameless man, is a serious matter. She wonders whether he is calmer because she didn't try to hide it from him in the first place and her Hyakinthus has already met him in person to express his interest. It could be terribly awkward in any other case, just like it is with her mother.
She gapes at him and his solemn face brings a smile on her lips. He isn't even going to give her a talking. Could this indicate his support to her situation.
"You're not angry. Do we have your blessing?"
The Wolf nods with irritation on his otherwise earnest face. She can only guess what he may be thinking. That her Hyakinthus should be grateful that he approached her father, before all these. Maybe even be thankful that he had her father's approval or else he would be a dead man. Or that she should thank the gods that her father loves her so much that he could never raise a hand on her. Maybe all of that. Before she can decide or make more assumptions, her father's voice breaks the silence.
"He didn't reveal himself to you, yet?"
She shakes her head in response. A bigger sense of guilt surfaces. How could she be so easily persuaded to meet with a stranger and trust him? How could he feel so right whenever she is close to him? Discussing the situation with another person brings up important details she refuses to acknowledge on her own. She feels foolish. Her mind often tells her the same, albeit she silences it. Her lack of knowledge is wrong. She needs to know. Pushing her guilt aside, she ceases the opportunity.
"Will you tell me?" She asks. Big warm eyes turn on him.
Nikolaos ponders on it peering at her carefully with knitted brows. "If he didn't touch you as you say, then I won't."

Happy Brasideia 2024 🎉
Please enjoy this ridiculous drawing that took me forever to finish because I could only work on it for a few minutes at a time before devolving into hysterics - I hope someone finds it at least sort of funny 😂
Idea lovingly ripped off from a future scene in my fic The Children of Kephallonia, during the Arkadia arc, where Brasidas is undercover and has thus changed his armor and unbraided his hair. And as you might have seen in the notes of my last Kassidas art, I recently had the revelation that the most likely, or at least the most hilarious, solution that I have found for Brasidas’ very much not historically accurate hair is that he has a mullet. Which meant I immediately had to rewrite that Arkadia scene to fit the mullet in lol.
Of course, the wording will be a little different in that scene when it is one day posted, because Kassandra and Ikaros’ exchange here is not quite but almost word for word the same exchange between Jake and Rosa in an episode of Brooklyn Nine Nine.
If you enjoyed this but were also hoping for some more serious Kassidas content from me today, I do have a surprisingly angsty (at least by my standards) Kassidas fic that I’ve been working on for the last month or so. Unfortunately, chapter one just kept getting longer and remains unfinished despite my repeated attempts to end the goddamn chapter, so jury’s still out on whether I actually get it up today, especially since I woke up with a terrible head cold 😬
But if you are interested, here’s a less angsty spoiler free sneak peak of Hold Your Bloody Hand in Mine!
It’s by far the strangest thing Brasidas has ever witnessed. He had known, theoretically, that there must have been an eagle to give Kassandra her title. Watching the sacred bird of Zeus descend from the heavens to nip at Kassandra’s ear with clear familiarity and affection is another thing altogether. He had not been prepared. That seems to be becoming a trend when it comes to Kassandra.

It’s Kassidas brain rot time (when is it not Kassidas brain rot time?)
Design notes!
I gave Brasidas some theoretically more historically accurate armor mostly because I didn’t want to draw his canon armor lol
Also I was thinking about the logistics of his extremely not historically accurate hair and how it would actually work and the only thing I could come up with is that Brasidas has a mullet 😳
In my mind Kassandra lowkey hates armor because she’s didn’t grow up fighting with armor and she’s not used to it, so she really just wears a shoulder harness that’s main purpose is to be a comfy perch for Ikaros and strap her spear to her back. Also, I don’t like drawing armor sue me
I also headcanon that her hair is pretty wild and curly when it’s not safely contained in her braid, kinda like a lion’s mane
Also, your honor they’re in love ❤️
