SO WHAT ft. Slow Download exhibition
Doomed Gallery Dalston, 2-5.02.2017
Exhibition organized by Fresh From Poland and Doomed Gallery Dalston, London.
curators: Gosia Fricze, Anna-Sophia John, Grażyna Siedlecka
Doomed Gallery Dalston and Fresh From Poland are proud to present the third edition of SO WHAT that will focus on contemporary Polish still life photography. This is the second issue of our So What x Poland show featuring an immersive piece by Magda Buczek. Since the first collaborative show in Krakow, exhibited as part of the Fringe Festival, the project has evolved through the exploration of photography’s contemporary still life scene. The gallery and photography platform Doomed has provided a playground for this ongoing discourse to ourish – encouraging an exchange with different countries and cultures.
So What Poland includes the work of established up and coming Polish artists that are concerned with documenting the situations of our present domestic landscapes. The photographs focus on the depiction of wittily constructed inanimate objects – ranging from traditional approaches to otherworldly surreal structures; these works allow us to view contemporary familiar and mundane items from a new perspective through borrowing technical characteristics from collage, painting, sculpture and photography.
The still life genre is concerned with the documentation of inanimate objects over time through mediums that are appropriate to a particular period. As we are increasingly enhancing our reality with online platforms and screen-based imagery, the objects that we engage with and our experiences have transformed. Our lives have become subject to an online/ofline pendulum that draws on a new array of senses and further challenges the concept of image and text materiality.
Still life photography group show included works by Katarzyna Balicka, Filip Berendt, Magda Buczek, Justyna Chrobot, Dorota Kaczmarek, Kasia Klimpel, Kuba Mozolewski, Natalia Podgórska, featuring video work SLOW DOWNLOAD by Magda Buczek.

Forward Tarot - konceptualna wystawa w formie kart tarota
Piotr Bosacki, kolektyw DIS, Maciej Chorąży, Dominika Olszowy, Paweł Susid, Kasia Balicka, Kasia Przezwańska, Zbiok Czajkowski, Ewa Mrozikiewicz, Tymek Borowski, Gosia Bartosik, SIKSA, Aleksandra Liput, Jakub Paprocki, Adam Niklewicz, Jakub Woynarowski, Gregor Różański, Marta Węglińska, Mikołaj Sobczak, Przemek Matecki, Izabella Gustowska, Olaf Brzeski, Oleg&Kaśka, Inside Job
Karta X. Koło Fortuny, kolektyw DIS i Harry Griffin

Brilliant swap here between Kasia Balicka aka Hugstoli (L) http://hugstoli.tumblr.com/ and Agata Królak (R) http://agatakrolak.com.
I really like both Kasia and Agata’s cards here, they compliment each others really sensitively.

SO WHAT & Random Selection exhibition
i! Gallery, Kraków, 14-27.05.2017
Still life photography exhibition as a part of Kraków Photo Fringe, organized by Fresh From Poland and Doomed Gallery Dalston
curators: Grażyna Siedlecka, Gosia Fricze, Anna-Sophia John
SO WHAT is concept conceived by the cutting edge London based contemporary photography Doomed Gallery, in collaboration with Fresh From Poland showing at i! Gallery in Krakow. SO WHAT premiered in London November 2015 at Doomed Gallery, where it was a raging success.
SO WHAT celebrates emerging and established international still life photographers, presenting a range from traditional approaches to otherworldly surrealist structures.
Ken Flaherty and Matt Martin, the creators of the SO WHAT concept note that the exhibition “focuses on the depiction of wittingly constructed inanimate that seem to offer more questions that answers”. These works allow us to view familiar and mundane items to form new perspectives through different creative mediums such as painting, sculpture and photography.
Unframed images have been arranged in the grid-like composition creating visual association with the aesthetics of the post-internet era. Curators’ intention is to shift the focus from the particular, single creation to the abstract conception of the contemporary still life and its surroundings. The notion relates closely to the Magda Buczek’s performance Random selection, “a loose story about a travel with its visual itinerary collected on Tumblr”, presented at the gallery in parallel over the duration of the exhibition.
SO WHAT artists: Roxana Azar, Jack Carvosso, Etienne Courtois, KangHee Kim, Abel Minnee, Georg Parthen, Ben Swanson, Katarzyna Balicka, Filip Berendt, Magda Buczek, Justyna Chrobot, Dorotka Kaczmarek, Kasia Klimpel, Natalia Podgórska
RANDOM SELECTION - installation by Magda Buczek

Marta Krześlak, Lagoon 01.06.2019 Bazar Namysłowska
production: Groszowe Sprawy for Biennale Warszawa curator: Maja Demska video: Kasia Balicka
Bazar Namysłowska is located on the premises of a former open-air community swimming pool complex, and the trade takes place among the ruins of pools, slides, and showers. The only facility stil in operation is a covered swimming pool located in the building bordering the bazaar. On International Children’s Day the terrace of the building, normally closed, was turned into a lagoon where you could relax and take a dip in an inflatable pool. The Lagoon was created from the leftovers from Marta Krześlak’s earlier works – sponges and foams obtained as waste from the industrial production of matresses.

Dominika Olszowy, Blank Verse 15.06.2019 Bazar Namysłowska
production: Groszowe Sprawy for Biennale Warszawa curator: Maja Demska video: Kasia Balicka
Blank Verse is a performance without the performer. She got tired, she disappeared, she’s on vacation. Cafe Dobranoc (Goodnight Cafe) is closed 24/7. Through the windows painted with kefir, (a refreshing fermented milk beverage), you can’t see what’s happening inside – but probably nothing. Enough of the entertainment. Sleep tight, goodnight!

Małgorzata Goliszewska, Goodbye, Sadness 22.06.2019 Bazar Namysłowska
production: Groszowe Sprawy for Biennale Warszawa curator: Maja Demska video: Kasia Balicka
Małgorzata Goliszewska reads fragments of her numerous diaries from her childhood and teenage years, and subsequently destroys them. In exchange, you can leave or destroy your memories or objects from the past, that you want to get rid of for emotional reasons. It’s a one-on-one ritual: story for story, secret for secret, full discression.
