Rgyan: Explore Lord Shiva, Kashi Vishwanath, and Hinduism
In this unit we discuss the deeper layers of Hinduism re- presenting its gods and goddesses, rituals, and devotion. Lord Shiva perhaps is one of the most worshipped gods in Hindu religion. Lord Shiva forms the focal appeasing god in Hinduism and is the lord of destruction and transformation in as much as he also symbolizes creation. To reduce him to a mere mythological figure would be unfair as he embodied philosophies, and even spirituality. There is usually the depiction of a third eye on Lord Shiva which is believed to represent the real vision of life. His iconic trident, the trishul, represents his control over the three fundamental aspects of existence: This is creation on the one hand, preservation on the other hand and destruction on the other hand. This divine trinity is relevant in developing the concept of cyclical nature of the universe that is an important factor in Hinduism.

In Hinduism, Lord Shiva is also known as the “Mahadeva” the Great God which is lord shiva played significant role in many field of life and spirituality. He is worship as the deity of renunciation and yogis who symbolizes the meditation and serenity. The calm but powerful depiction of Lord Shiva might depict crescent moon adorning his forehead however the water of sacred ganga is also shown to be emerging from his jute. These symbols demonstrate his deity and his function as the provider of life and purification
The Hindu religion has given prime importance to the concept of pairing of two opposite entities and Shiva is a symbol of this. He is also both the savior and the destroyer, as it is the rule that for change to occur the old has to be destroyed. This concept is profound in Hinduism to explain roundness of life and the universe as far as cycle is concerned. His dance is tandava which is a dance of creation, preservation and destruction of the universe; this adds to the fact that he has a role in the cycle of mythology. The worship of Lord Shiva is an element that is significant to the Hindu Religion, and its manifestation is also several across the country. Some of the famous temples of Shiva include Kashi Vishwanath Temple of Varanasi and Kedarnath Temple of Uttarakhand which is visited by millions of tourists every year. People who have faith believe that, by visiting these holy places, one can receive God’s favours and even have some method of spiritual development. The biggest annual festival in honor of Lord Shiva is known as Maha Shivaratri, which means literally ‘the great night of Shiva’. During the festival a person abstains from food, drinks, and have to stay awake throughout the night. People who take part in Maha Shivaratri ceremonies have the perception that they are able to surmount their troubles and attain salvation in the process. Basically, according to the Hindu religion and what was demonstrated by the celebration of the festival, Shiva is greatly revered among Hindus and the celebration demonstrates the colorful traditions of Hindus.
Tumblr media
Religion wise, Hindus have many ways and beliefs where the main aim is to follow a specific spiritual path in order to become one with the supreme being which is illustrated by the worship of lords such as lord Shiva. The information that can be gained from the teaching and tradition linked with the god Shiva gives the knowledge of the divine and cosmos. When one knows the role of Lord Shiva correctly, the paradoxical and complex character of Hindu spirituality can be easily recognized. At Rgyan, we have continuously strived for offering comprehensive information on Hinduism as its heritage. Hence an insight into the biography and meaning of Lord Shiva presents a spiritual, symbolic, and philosophical lesson to life and the concept of life. In any case, whether by enjoying the celebrations of the different festivals or directly visiting temples and following the regular practice of meditation or feeding their souls by the knowledge, thoughts and direct words of Lord Shiva, millions of people remain inspired and continue to find their ways forward in life. It is argued here that knowledge concerning deep spiritual lessons now altogether linked to Lord Shiva can be inestimable in helping Hinduism followers discover their unique spiritual journeys leading to divine realization as well as understanding the depth hid in the religion.
