Rosva eyed the rising smoke from below, his jaws set in a tight line.

           “My Lord.”

           Without taking his eyes off the carnage taking below, Rosva answered, “Speak, brother mine.”

           “The situation is dire. The humans have orchestrated a coup. They are winning. They have taken Karvin as a hostage.”

           Rosva gave a deep sigh, a soft moan escaping his lips. He opened and closed his mouth a couple of times before he could speak, “That is… unfortunate. Have they made any demands?”

           “They want us to leave and never come back.”

           Rosva nodded, letting a long, jagged breath out of his mouth.  He grabbed on to the ledge, only to let go of it. That was a sign of weakness and Rakshasas were anything but weak. Even in these circumstances. “I see. How did this happen?”

           “I don’t know, brother mine” he answered, coming to stand near his brother. “We severely underestimated them?”

           “No. I don’t think that’s the case,” Rosva said, feeling exhausted down to his bones. It took all his strength to even stay upright on his feet. It would not do to collapse now. “Change is inevitable. We have been the masters of Sinchal for a long time. It’s time for humans.”

           Rakta’s head whipped to his side, fury gleaming in his yellow eyes. His voice was guttural and animalistic as he spoke, “Change? You mean to say that we are losing because it’s time for a change? Are you being philosophical or just a coward?”

           For the first time in the day, Rosva turned to look at his brother, making the latter take a step back. “Your eyes! My Lord, your eyes! They’re pink!”

           “The Revolution and Coup… it’s costing us heavily, Rakta.”

           “What have you done?” Rakta cried. “Why are your eyes turning white?”

           “The only thing I could do to save my people. At the peak of my powers, I could have probably taken them all. But now, after three centuries of being in power, I’m exhausted. My body can no longer keep up. I need to do what’s best for us.”

           “You let go of your power?” Rakta said, understanding dawning on his face. He dropped down to his knee and held his fist to his heart. “What do you wish of me, My Lord?”

           “Retreat. Regroup. Wait,” Rosva said.

           “And Karvin?” Rakta asked.

           Rosva’s silence spoke volumes.
