19 mars : la journée de la culture cachoube

S’il est jour où il faut visiter la Cachoubie, c’est bien le 19 mars. Depuis 2004, c’est la Journée de l’unité cachoube (Dzéń Jednotë Kaszëbów). Cette minorité vit au centre de la Poméranie, principalement dans l’arrière-pays de Gdansk et de Gdynia, deux ports polonais sur la Baltique. Le cachoube est une langue slave distincte du polonais. Elle est parlée par quelque 100 000 personnes. Longtemps la Cachouie (Kaszub) a abrité une minorité slave au sein d’un pays germanique, c’est ce qui explique qu’elle ne se soit pas fondue dans la culture polonaise. C’est le glissement au XXe siècle de la frontière polono-allemande vers l’ouest qui a placé les Cachoubes au cœur de la Pologne, avec le risque de voir leur identité diluée dans celle, hégémonique, de la Pologne.

Cette journée dédiée à la culture cachoube se fait surtout en musique, en particulier à l’accordéon, grande spécialité régionale. Chaque année, lors d’un rassemblement, on tente de battre le record du nombre d'accordéons jouant en même temps. Le dernier record était de 372 participants en 2016 à Boyana. Chaque 19 mars, après la messe, on défile ensuite aux couleurs (noir et jaune) du drapeau de la Cachoubie.

La date de cette fête correspond à la première mention de la Cachoubie dans un document officiel, c’était le 19 mars 1238, le pape Grégoire IX désignait le duc de Szczecin comme "le prince de Cachoubie" (en latin bien sûr : “duce Cassubie”).

La journée est coordonnée et parrainée par l'association Cachoube-Poméranie basée à Gdańsk. Elle se concentre sur la promotion de la culture cachoube. La célébration comprend des expositions, des foires d'art populaire et un tournoi de baszka, le jeu de cartes traditionnel inventé par les Cachoubes. Chaque année, l'événement a lieu dans une ville de Cachoubie différente : il a déjà été organisé à Gdańsk (en 2004), Tuchomie, Kramarzyny, Miastko, Bytów, Kartuzy, Słupsk, Brusy, Kościerzyna, Sierakowice, Żuków (en 2019)… En 2023, après une interruption pour cause de covid, c’est à Gniewino que se déroule la fête.
