HRU Preview Scrapped Ideas: Karna

I mean i already posted Karna's (hint hint nudge nudge wink wink) so I don't have anything to preview but considering it was specifically his S3 also can we please stop fcking giving these giant star bombs out mozart was supposed to be special this is definitely the only chance I will ever get to talk about my original and WAY too convoluted idea for his S3 to be a manifestation of his legendary armor THAT IS STILL WEIRDLY ABSENT WHY IS THIS TWINK SO EASILY OBLITERATED I MEAN APOCRYPHA MADE IT PRETTY CLEAR HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE DURABLE-

but anyways yeah. There were several versions, all meant to convey the fact that he's near invincible with Kavacha and/or Kundala, his armor and earring, but has to give them up to use his NP or worse can become cursed into losing them by attacking divine beings (see the whole Brahmin thing). The 2 final versions before I decided against the whole thing for balancing reasons were these:

Uncrowned Arms Mastery -> “Crowned Avatar of Divine Arms”

V1:

Increase own NP Gauge by 30%.^ Increase own Critical Star Drop Rate (3 turns).^ Increase own Critical Strength (3 turns). Apply [Kavacha and Kundala] buff to self. Remove buff when this unit deals damage to a [Divine] enemy, or starts a turn with 100% or more NP. - Increase Damage Resist by 90%. - 65% Chance to Increase NP Gauge per turn. Chance is re-calculated each turn. - 65% Chance to restore HP each turn for self. Chance is re-calculated each turn. - Apply Delayed Buff [Activates upon Buff Removal] - - Increase own NP Strength (1 time, 1 turn). - - Increase own NP Overcharge Level by 2 stages (1 time, 1 turn)

V2:

Hello, I have added another fic based off the request on @nasuversekinkmeme for a Karna M/M pairing. This fic is a Karna/ Gilgamesh fic filled to the brim with rivalry and competition (though Karna is so chill about it that Gilgamesh can't help but feel irritated)

In this fic, Gilgamesh decides to pick on Karna whilst he's minding his own business; as they challenge each other in numerous ways...though it somehow takes the turn for the 18+ and horny, thanks to Gilgamesh's calculating mind and Karna's intrigue.

while im reminiscing about old fate fandom anyway, i think it's hard for anyone who got into the series through fgo or even just after fgo got big to realize just how much impact fgo had. it outright changed how people talk about the characters, before fgo it was viable and common to refer to every single servant by their class and what installment besides fsn they were from (lancer, zero lancer, extra lancer, ccc lancer) and each instalment that had multiple of a single class always provided some other option to refer to them with that would differentiate them while keeping their true name secret (red and black factions in apocrypha, red saber casko and red tea for playable extra servants, launcher for karna so liz could be ccc lancer).

fgo was an actual gamechanger because it was the first time readers were just given every servant's true name upfront and were expected to use it instead of their class. on top of that there'd been several mentions of servants that fit multiple classes before fgo but fgo was the first time we actually saw any servant summoned in an alternate class, making class names even more useless because not only did "fgo lancer" not mean anything but lancer in fgo was also a caster.

for years after fgo's release the type moon wiki clung to its page title name scheme of "[class] - fate/[whatever they're from]" because until fgo (which released 11 years after fsn) that was the most sensible and spoiler-free way to refer to servants and it took a very long list of "[class] - fate/grand order (true name)" pages for them to give up and change every servant's page title to their true name.

fgo tried to get back some of the mystery of true names with epic of remnant but they didn't manage to make it stick or really recapture that magic, and by now effectively nobody really refers to servants outside fgo by class anymore either unless they're veterans like me, and even then most of us only stick to doing it for the fsn servants. fgo has made it much harder for any fate story to write its mystery around true names anymore because out of necessity it has caused fan spaces to no longer respect the mystery of true names.

is canonically autistic about crabs due to their warrior prowess and ability to face their enemies head-on, making a santa-crab sweater the perfect choice as he tries to fit in with chaldea for the holidays.

does not understand why Ganesha makes that Face about it, and later asks his master if they're aware of the significance of the number 420.

Santa Karna

Has learned how to be more properly Festive, in his perception of the word festive, so his wardrobe gets an upgrade. Also, he's told he's not allowed to attend the Chaldea Holiday Party in his normal Santa Getup. Da Vinci said something about how 'even Santas deserve a day off during the holidays', but she really just wanted him to not get Into It with Santa Quetz.

Nice, tight fabric that fits snugly over his abs.

Food-themed to delight him as a provider of delicious meals and protection.

Really, just imagine that hunk of man-meat coming up to you with a plate of biscuits and gravy while wearing this. Wouldn't it be heaven?

Vlad (Berserker)

Would not wear something joke-themed or silly -- at least in his perception. This garment is obviously ridiculous, but he perceives it as proper holiday cheer and a work of art that he crafted himself.

Vlad (Lancer) would also wear ugly Christmas sweaters, but that's more dependent on the vibes of his Master, imo.

Blackbeard

He's been waiting all year to bust this baby out.

More like a sweater-dress than a Christmas sweater, but she'd wear it to the holiday party with a cute pair of tights, chunky shoes, and little candy and present decorations in her hair. Glitter would be everywhere.

Someone in the extended Emiyaverse makes him wear it, and he puts up with it with a little grumbling. Particularly if it makes his Master and the kids happy.

Enjoys that the little balls bob and shine in the light when she sparkles. Keeps feeling the tinsel and laughing to herself.

I'm still mulling over things and putting together Thoughts regarding Sigurd's Lore Dump about us and the Origin War, so while I percolate, I thought I'd go about identifying the eight other Servants summoned by the Solar Cell/Heavenly Divinity. Some of them we've seen, others will probably be familiar if you've played FGO and kept up with the JP server, and one is... well. One is QUITE interesting. So, in (almost) order of appearance:

The Beastmaster: Tezcatlipoca. In charge of the Pyrrhic Forest. We know he's been replaced by Lancer/Setanta.

The Healer: Asclepius. In charge of the Fugue Hamlet. We set off his defenses by contracting with Rider again and were forced to eliminate him.

The Slayer: Nagao Kagetora. Was mentioned to have been replaced by Nikitich by Sigurd during the banquet.

The Keeper: Ptolemy.

The General: Karna. In charge of Flicker Port. We saw him annihilate Izou during Chapter 2.5.

The Pharaoh: Ozymandias. In charge of the Transient Megalopolis.

The Protector: Gawain.

And last but VERY much not least...

The Priestess: Tamamo no Mae. In charge of Sunbeam Row. Was mentioned to have been replaced by Tamamo Aria by Sigurd during the banquet.

Theurgical Holy Grail War more like the fucking 'Tamamo Everywhere System'. Which makes sense given she seems to have started this whole shebang off in the first place. But if Red Caster and the previous Priestess are one in the same it'd certainly explain a fucking LOT about our encounters with her (including Foreigner calling her a cheater) and how much she knows about us.

4* Saber. God I really hope its Gawain. There are pretty good chances of being him considering he’s gonna be an event servant. If they do a rank up quest for him because of the event later I wont mind tho but I’m not counting with that so I really hope its Gawain. This man deserves it at this point

3* Lancer: God theres so many possibilities here to me. Like I dont think any AOE 3* Laner is doing very hot atm. I would really like Taiga to get something this time though. She’s still got a 10t skill cooldown that isnt really worth it. I wouldnt mind another buff for Diarmuid tho

And here’s probably one that might be even controversial but Hozouin because his skills do very very little to him. I think he could use some help

Fingers brush against the familiar handle of the flower shop she used to visit often. Karna's flower shop, to be exact. The gap in her memories had been enough to signify to her that something had happened, a void existing between the months she'd disappeared until waking up one day in an unfamiliar bed and sitting up in an entirely different room. Panic had been her first emotion, had she forgotten something important? No, her memories remained intact. She remembered everything, including the fond feelings she'd garnered for the lancer.

But she knew all too well how cruel fate could be. He had been the first to disappear, and she not long after. No time to mourn the loss, nor any to process what her next steps were. And that's exactly why she finds herself hesitating in front of the door, wondering whether or not she should bother to be here in the first place. If he didn't remember, it would crush her in such a way that she was entirely unsure of how she'd react. If he remembered, however, well…

Ereshkigal steels herself and opens the door. The sound of bells chiming as she enters, flowers neatly placed on display as they always were. She cautiously moves around the room, her heart threatening to leap from her very chest as she stops to stand in front of an arrangement of red peonies.

This is a mistake, she can't help but think to herself, and as soon as the thought comes to her, she's heading toward the door to leave. As she reaches for the handle, her departure is cut short by the sound of someone else walking into the room from the back. She freezes, bracing herself before finally turning to look at who it is. "…It's you." Who else could it be, really? There, Karna stands in the doorway.

Ereshkigal does not move to meet him, instead opting to keep her distance. But she can already feel the beginnings of what are certainly tears begin to form as she tries not to give herself too much hope.
