I grew up in a wealthy white suburb and had a mother who negotiated labor disputes as a career. Karening is in my blood. But it’s one of those unwanted superpowers and I hate that it’s in my arsenal. Except every once in a while I unleash the Caucasian Beast in very specific circumstances, and only ever on behalf of someone else. I was working in immigration while Trump was president and let me tell you, nothing has ever brought out my inner Karen (or Care-in as I like to call her) as much as dealing with ICE.

Like once - and this is honest to god the proudest moment of my life - my client and his son were supposed to be released from the ICE detention facility where they were being held, but when I went to pick them up the ICE agents on duty tried to tell me there was a snag and they couldn’t leave at the expected time.

Let’s just say that I made it clear that I was being generous enough to go fill my tank with gas, and when I returned my client and his son would be in the lobby ready for me, with a TSA-compliant sack lunch for their flight. Lo and behold, when I got back they were sitting in the chairs, backpacks and paper bags in their laps and beaming smiles across their faces.

The second we closed my car doors, they burst out laughing and asked what I had said to the agents. Apparently I scared them so badly that ICE agents were *literally* running around the facility to make sure everything was ready before I got back, and they were in such a rush to get them out the door they even gave my client’s son the wrong report card.

And that’s not even getting into my ongoing feud with ICE’s slimy, lying PR guy whose career I’m fairly certain I ruined.

tl;dr I put the care in Karen. aka I Karen for a cause.
