kinktober 2023 -> day 14
age difference - ukai keishin x reader
word count: 2,406
kinktober masterlist
The bell above the door dinged as you entered Sakanoshita Mart, your ears immediately being filled with the soft retail music that has always played in the store. Your nose twitched with the smell of cigarette smoke, an old familiarity to the scent that you had come to associate with a certain man. Said man was sitting behind the counter, feet pulled up and crossed on the desk before him, ruffling through what looked like a sports magazine, and the same old cigarette dangling lazily from his lips.
He briefly glanced up as the door chimed, before looking down at the magazine again. Seconds later his head shot up again, eyes wide this time, staring at you with his mouth dropping open, using a hand to pluck away the stick between his lips before it fell to the ground.
“Hi.” You smiled, still standing just inside the door, suddenly feeling shy after seeing his reaction. You had told yourself over and over that you would be confident when you met him again, that you would finally answer his sarcastic quips instead of just giggling silently at them like you used to. You weren’t the same as you were back in high school. And you needed to show him that.
Your little crush on Ukai Keishin was an age old story, starting from your third year in high school. You had been managing Kurasuno’s volleyball club when Takeda sensei brought Coach Ukai in, announcing that he would be taking the role his grandfather once held. You had sucked in a breath as you gazed at the man, taking in his casual orange hoodie and sweatpants, hair pulled back with a headband and the laziest little eye roll you had ever seen.
You were enamored.
That had been the start of your little schoolgirl crush, spending most of your time during practice staring at the man while he barked orders at the team. You had barely interacted that year, apart from volleyball related matters you needed answers to. You were unbelievably shy, and equally quiet. It had never bothered you, considering that you were surrounded by people who were larger than life and more than happy to take over the room. The year had been spent daydreaming about the Coach and taking in every little detail about him that you could.
That was three years ago.
Miyagi had not changed upon your return from college. It was no Tokyo, of course, where you had spent the last three years, the city that changed you as a person, but there was still that quiet charm to Miyagi that Tokyo just couldn’t emulate, a deep understanding of nature that you had missed during college.
That, and Tokyo could never quite replicate the man who had periodically haunted your dreams since you graduated high school.
You thought of him every now and then, maybe once a week you would wonder what he was up to. You knew from old friends like Daichi that he was still coaching for Karasuno, and the thought made you happy. He had found purpose with your team and he had carried on that legacy.
You wondered if the new managers thought of him like you did in your day. You wouldn’t be surprised.
You watched him now as he pulled his legs off the counter and sat up straight, watched as he traced his eyes down your figure. It made your breath hitch, and you tried not to smirk.
You hadn’t just gained confidence in the last three years. Tokyo had been really good for your body too. And you knew what this sundress made you look like. There was a reason you had put it on today.
“Hi.” Ukai finally breathed in reply, after what seemed like an eternity. You smiled and stepped closer to the counter, hands meeting the surface softly when you reached him. You watched him squash the cigarette into an ashtray and throw the magazine next to it carelessly, giving you his full attention.
“Didn’t know you were back in Miyagi.” He began, smiling up at you as he leaned against his arms on the counter.
You shrugged. “There’s no place like home.”
You immediately cringed at your reply. Ugh, so corny. This is not how you wanted things to go today. You were supposed to act sexy and alluring. To pull him in.
He chuckled a bit, resting his chin on the palm of his hand. His eyes never left you, only occasionally dipping down to look at your chest. You could tell he was trying to be subtle, but Ukai Keishin didn’t have one subtle bone in his body. The thought made you laugh internally.
“How’re you doing?” He asked.
“Good! I’m good. You?”
“Good.”
“Oh, good.”
You visibly did flinch this time, and Keishin snickered before standing up. You blinked in surprise when he leaned over the counter, closer to you.
“Why are you here, Y/N?”
He had never called you by your first name before. You stared at him and how close he was. Merely ten inches or so away. And you couldn’t find your voice to answer his question.
“We’ve never been close.” He continued. “In fact, we barely spoke. You being here now, wearing,” a pause as his eyes skimmed over your figure, “that. There’s a reason for it. Tell me.”
Your heart was beating a mile a minute, nearly shivering when his eyes lingered on your deep neckline. Your face felt hot.
“I think,” you breathed. “I think it’s pretty obvious. Don’t you?”
He hummed before leaning back again, popping the little tension filled bubble you had created. You let out a breath, watching as he rounded the counter. You stayed rock still, ears perking up when you heard a little click, realizing it was the door being locked. Your nerves buzzed with excitement. Was this really happening?
You nearly jumped when his hand skimmed your side, fingers splaying out over the material of your dress. His breath brushed the shell of your ear, and your eyelids fluttered.
“I won’t do anything unless you say so.”
His voice was so low, so gruff, you bit your lip to keep from moaning. You could feel yourself getting wet at the proximity, wanting nothing more than to be closer to him. So you pushed back, your ass brushing his crotch. You sighed when you felt how hard he was, and the thought of it turned you on even more.
Keishin hissed at the contact, hands grabbing your hips tight to hold you in place.
“Don’t make me repeat myself.”
Oh fuck. You flushed. You had missed that, truly. You had missed him being authoritative and imposing, ordering around a whole team to do as he wished.
“Ukai-san. Please.” You felt your face burn. “Want you.”
“Want me where?”
You whined, making him chuckle before he finally let your bodies come in contact. His front pressed to your back firmly, until you felt every shift of his muscles. His hands that were previously on your hips began to wander, stopping just below your breasts. His hot breath skimmed over the skin of your neck until goosebumps arose, and you pushed back against him again, this time harder.
“You naughty girl.” He breathed, teeth grazing over your skin before he bit down slightly. You leaned your head the other way to give him more access. “You came here just for this, didn’t you? You wanted to sleep with your old volleyball coach?”
At this point you were desperately grinding back on him, his lips mapping your neck like he was starved for you.
“I don’t see you hesitating.” You replied, loving the push and pull of your bodies, loving how his hips chased after you when you pulled away from him even slightly.
“You think I can resist this?” His hand traveled under the hem of your skirt, brushing your bare thigh. He traced the skin up, up, up until his fingers skimmed the edge of your panties. He dipped a fingertip into the fabric, feeling how soft you were, how warm you were. And wet. You were so wet for him.
“Fuck.” He groaned, pushing your panties aside just enough to slide a finger through your slit. The pad grazed your clit and you moaned loud, eyes closing in relief.
“You think I didn’t notice how much you stared?” He continued. “I knew. Way back then, I knew. See, I thought it was just a little crush. But here you are, three years later, all grown up and spreading your legs for me. Dirty girl. You’ve been wanting me all this time?”
You cried out when he chose that moment to sink a finger inside you, up to the knuckle, curling it immediately to rub your walls. You squirmed in his hold, but he was strong, strong enough to hold you in place and maintain the pace he had set inside you at the same time.
“You’re so tight, baby.” He grunted out, another finger joining the first one. “You done this before?”
“I’m not a virgin!” You bit out, trying to keep your legs from shaking.
Keishin laughed at that. “Sorry, sweets. Did I offend you?”
You wanted to say yes. Wanted to tell him you weren’t some goody-two shoes that he probably always thought you were. You wanted him to know that you wanted this. That you craved it. That the thought of sleeping with someone so much older, someone who had been a (sort of) teacher to you, was such a turn on that it made you drip right down his fingers and across his palm.
The next second, all sensations left you. His fingers and his back disappeared, leaving you cold and empty. Your hands gripped the counter tightly as you watched him round it again, settling lazily into the chair and watching you with half-lidded eyes. You blinked at him in shock.
“You want it bad, right?” He started. “Came all the way here for it. Well, come take it.”
He leaned back, spreading his legs. Your eyes fell to the massive bulge in his pants as he lit another cigarette, taking a long drag from it.
You didn’t have to be told twice.
You shakily stumbled to where he was, wasting no time in bunching up your dress and swinging a leg over him to straddle his hips. His smirk was sleazy and so sexy, fumbling with the strings on his sweats to pull them down just enough that his cock sprang out, hard as anything and drooling at the tip. You licked your lips.
You threw your head back and moaned in satisfaction when you finally sunk down on him, feeling him hit every spot right as he carved into you. He was bigger than any you’d ever had before. It felt heavenly, and as you watched him moan, eyes trained resolutely on you and cigarette still hanging from his lips, you felt like every dirty, wet dream you had ever had about the man was nothing compared to this.
You rolled your hips, testing the waters with him. His jaw ticked and you knew he was clenching his teeth, hand running over your bare thigh. You reached up to pull the straps of your dress down, lowering the neck until your breasts popped out.
“Oh, Jesus.” Keishin breathed, hand immediately reaching for one and squeezing. You started bouncing on his cock in earnest, loving the drag of him against your walls, but unable to go as deep as you would like, as deep as you knew he could go, unable to scratch that itch deep in your core. You whined.
“Ukai-san,” you bit your lip and gave him a pleading look. He stared at you for a few seconds before grinning, picking you up by the waist and pulling you off him. You stood on shaky legs, letting him manhandle you, turning you around and bending you over the counter, sliding back in immediately afterward like he couldn’t stand to be out of you for even one more second.
You nearly choked as he set a brutal pace, hands immediately scrambling to find purchase, anything to hold on to as he pounded into you. You let out a long, broken moan when he reached deep, deep inside you, toes curling from the sheer satisfaction of it. God, this was leagues above the dirty fantasies you had cooked in your head. Bent over this counter with your coach’s dick inside you. And he was so good, taking only a few thrusts to figure out the perfect angle to make you scream and clench around him, vision bursting with stars at the sensations coursing through your body.
Fingers carded through your hair at the back of your head, pulling hard until you were arching off the counter and making contact with Keishin’s body, his other hand reaching up to pinch your nipple hard. You yelped.
“Look at you,” he moaned, voice lower than you had ever heard it before. “Can’t stop screaming. Slut. Any of your college boys fuck you like this?”
You shook your head as much as his grip would allow, clenching harder around him at his words. You were being entirely honest. In your limited sexual experience, no one had come close to making you feel like this. Whether it was the raw anticipation of it, or if Keishin was really that good, you were already nearing your end. And it had barely been two minutes since he started.
He chuckled, sinking his teeth into your neck. Your eyes rolled up at the feeling. The knot in your stomach was getting tighter and tighter.
“You needed me to make you feel good, huh?” He groaned into your neck. “Little princess wasn’t satisfied. Needed a man to show you how good a cock can feel.”
You screamed as your muscles seized and the knot snapped, your orgasm washing over you in waves. Keishin fucked you through it, cock driving into you at an unforgiving pace. Your breaths were broken and struggling, trying not to completely fall apart as your vision clouded with tears.
Keishin pulled out of you abruptly, turning you around and setting you on the counter. One look at your flushed, sweaty face had him humming in approval, hooking his hands under your knees to pull your legs apart.
“I’m not done with you yet.”

# tsukishima kei - careful
a/n: last of the requested fics (that took me too long to write), i hope the anon who requested it will enjoy it :33 also, my manga collection is growing (five new mangas are coming my way) and let me tell you i'm excited asf !!!!!
summary: you hurt yourself during a volleyball match, and tsukki seems to be worried
warnings: none, reader hurts their finger
'aw, shit.'
you tried to hide it, but everyone inside the gym could clearly hear you hissing in pain after the spike hit your fingers a tad bit too hard, ball falling out of the court right after.
karasuno wasn't a school known for having volleyball prodigies, especially concerning the female team - the girl's skills were far from perfect and thoughts of ever winning a high-school championship could only be a dream out of reach for them. the idea of having a training match with the other team to try and improve their skills against a tougher opponent was surely a great one.
except for the fact that you weren't particularly used to spikes being this strong.
asahi looked in fear at your painful expression as michimiya checked up on you, the older student already walking up to apologize over and over, embarrassed with how he couldn't properly manage the strength of his spike. as he walked under the net, already coming up to you, he realized that he was overtaken by someone already.
'would it kill you to at least try and be more careful for one day?'
tsukishima grumbled to himself, fingers intertwined with yours as he firmly held your hand and dragged you away, making sure you heard the annoyance in his tone. he wasn't mad at you - if anything, he was worried and irritated with the turn of events.
he huffed, motioning for you to sit down at the bench, eyes scanning the gym hall for one of their managers, whom he intended to ask for the tape and bandages, as well as something to reduce the swelling. fortunately for him, he didn't have to ask, as yachi had run to get those things the moment she noticed the accident happen.
the blonde girl smiled at you, crouching down next to the bench.
'i can take it from here-'
'no need.'
she turned to face tsukishima, but he didn't even let her finish the sentence, already grabbing the stuff from her hands as he put the ice pack over your fingers carefully.
'does it hurt?' he mumbled the question, reaching for the bandages.
'you're being so dramatic right now, kei.' your words gained an annoyed huff from him. 'i barely got hit.'
'you didn't answer my question.'
'alright, it hurts a little.' you admitted, trying to move your index finger a few times, a jolt of pain making your face scrunch.
'then it needs to be taken care of.'
the two of you seemed to have ignored the overbearing silence from other club members, most standing over you to make sure you're alright, some still waiting for the match to continue. tsukishima seemed to be in his own little world, completely focused on properly bandaging your fingers, hands carefully wrapping it around, making sure he didn't accidentally hurt you in the process.
there was always some sort of gentleness in everything he did around you; from his eyes, usually so cold and emotionless, that would always stare at you with utmost love and care, to the occasional touches, small and, for some, insignificant, that were more than enough for the blonde to show you that he cares.
whenever with you, his facade would slowly crumble, the true nature behind it out in the open.
'aww look guys, tsukishima is actually not a heartless monster!'
his fingers froze in place, and if it weren't for the fact he was handling you at the moment, tanaka's comment would probably make him leave the gym with an annoyed huff.
the boy turned around for a second, a smile gracing his face.
'that's why the girl i like actually said yes.' he adjusted his glasses, head slightly tilted to the side. 'and how is that going for you?'
you couldn't help but crack a smile at tanaka's enraged expression, the upperclassmen having to hold him back from smacking the blonde first year, all giggling as they watched the scene unfold.
'don't be so cocky, kei.' you mumbled in his ear, standing up from your seat as you nudged your boyfriend's shoulder with your healthy hand. 'i don't think i have to remind you that i had to ask you out because you were too much of a coward-'
'we can leave that out of the conversation.'

WINNING YOU w. ushijima - chapter five.
⨳ word count ; .8k (800)
⨳ content warning ; smau 、 profanity 、 written section 、 shiratorizawa winning again… 、 scared & anxious & WIMPY! reader (i say this with love) 、 TW: ushijima texts first 、 feelings realization.
right now, there are mere seconds before shiratorizawa academy's boys volleyball club walks through the gym doors that you have your eyes glued to. you're sitting on the bench - like you have been for awhile now - leg bouncing anxiously.
you don't know why you're so nervous. you've met the guy before - hell, you've run into him before! why is this so much more nerving than it was before you ran into him?
maybe it's because, now, he knows how much you ramble when given the chance. or, maybe it's because he's seen the way you text people. or, maybe it's because not only will he know who you are, but the rest of his team will as well.
you pull your bottom lip into your mouth and bite down, gnawing at the skin there - a nervous habit you've had since you were young, something you haven't been able to kick. kind of like your thoughts about ushijima.
sometimes, when you ought to be doing important things, like studying or writing things down on your clipboard, your mind drifts to ushijima. not anything specific, really. just him.
finally, you tear your eyes away from the door, over to yachi, who's doing the same thing as you, only her face is paler and her eyes are a bit wider. you have got to suggest some anxiety medicine to that girl.
"yacchan-"
"they're here!"
and then, it's almost like the world has started moving in slow motion. you can barely register turning your head to look at the opposing team walking through the doors. cheers erupt around you - kids from shiratorizawa that showed up earlier than the bus did. does shiratorizawa regularly allow student to leave class early for away-games?
you don't have to look for him because, of course, he's standing in the front, leading the other players to the court. and, of course, he's looking directly at you.
it takes everything in your body to move. on your face, a small smile forms and you bring a hand up to wave at him.
theres a flash of recognition that crosses his face, then, for a moment, you swear you can see him returning the small smile. he nods at you and you feel light-headed.
you feel your face heat up and you have to look away before you embarrass yourself. your eyes land on kiyoko, who's wearing an impressed look on her face. your eyes widen a fraction before she signals for you and yachi to stand up. you do, because who are you to not listen to kiyoko?
you do introductions with the other managers - a tradition that isn't really necessary, but is something every team does.
the game goes by in a blur. a jump here, a spike there. you should be ashamed of yourself, the way you don't pay attention to karasuno's score. the only thing you can seem to focus on is how ushijima's thighs strain against his shorts when he jumps.
"y/n," kiyoko says quietly from beside you, nudging your arm. she's smiling at you, but the smiles disappears in an instant. "you're drooling. close your mouth before a fly lands in it."
you clamp your mouth shut, eyes widening once again. "you're so mean, kiyoko!" you exclaim, crossing your arms over your chest. your eyes drift back to the court just in time to see shiratorizawa's setter score the last point, winning the last set and, in turn, winning the game.
"ah, crap," yachi mumbles nervously, pressing her lips into a thin line. "we lost to them. again."
you let out a sigh, brows pinching together. "well, that's okay. we'll..." you trail off and shake your head, effectively collecting yourself. "we'll get them next time! right, kiyoko?"
she doesn't say anything, just nods.
karasuno returns to the benches looking dejected - expected. a few boys on shiratorizawa are cheering, high-fiving each other - expected. ushijima starts walking over to the karasuno benches - what?!
"kiyoko," you say quietly. you can't take your eyes off of him. he's staring at you - peering into your soul. "kiyoko," you repeat again, this time emphasizing it with an elbow to her side.
finally, she looks over to where you're looking. "oh," she says simply. "well, that's- uh, is he walking towards you?"
"i don't-" you're starting to panic now. him acknowledging you before the game is one thing, actually talking to him is another. "oh, god. i- i have to pee!"
you drop your clipboard onto the bench and speed walk your way over to the girls bathroom. once your safely in a stall, you pull your legs up to your chest and let out a deep breath.
how are you meant to marry him if you just end up running away every time you talk to him?!

↳ 𝗢𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 - 𝗛𝗮𝗶𝗸𝘆𝘂𝘂! 𝘅 𝗳𝗲𝗺! 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿
karasuno boys x fem! volleyballplayer! reader
summary - you're a member of the girls' volleyball team at Karasuno High getting ready for a friendly match against the guys' team. during the game, you manage to catch the attention of one of the boys who can't keep his eyes off you while you play.
warnings - fluff, vague description of volleyball matches (i apologize in advance)
author's note: a little self-indulgent fic. this is for all my volleyball girlies who dreamed of playing with the haikyuu boys. :) <33 also, i've used the names from the actual Karasuno High girls volleyball club.
featuring characters — TANAKA, NISHINOYA, SUGAWARA, DAICHI
main masterlist !
TANAKA
your position: middle blocker
it was your team's serve and the score was at 14: 7 in favour of the boy's team. with each cheer of the boys' team, your team's spirits were dropped.
hinata hit his serve on the net; the red-haired boy blanched while kageyama sent him a death glare.
your serve was up.
your body buzzed with anticipation as michimiya tossed you the ball, giving you an encouraging nod, "give us a good serve. make it curve,"
you blinked, mouthing helplessly, "i'm not sure i can pull it off,"
but michimiya gave you a strong look that said 'just do it'
you got behind the line, tapping the ball, and tried to shake off the nerves. the sound of the impact echoed through the air, filling the atmosphere with a satisfying thud each time it made contact.
the whistle was blown and you looked up.
your eyes unexpectedly locked with tanaka's, which caused both of you to blink rapidly and snap out of it.
you tossed the ball, delivering a powerful serve. it soared through the air, passing barely above the tape of the net.
tanaka straightened, calling for the ball, "mine!"
but the ball curved at the last minute, which resulted him in shanking the pass.
tanaka initially panicked, fearing that he had ruined the play. however, when he saw kageyama successfully complete the second touch, prompting him to release a sigh of relief.
tanaka took a step back, getting ready to approach for a spike.
kageyama set the ball to him and tanaka jumped into the air.
you tracked his movements, jumping in the air with arms up to block him. your setter, manami, followed your movements.
tanaka hit the ball perfectly, aiming for the line of your side of the court. but you read him easily, and moved your arm a bit to the side, blocking him.
the ball rolled and dropped right in front of the net as daichi dived for it, but in vain.
you pumped your fists in the air in victory while the rest of the team huddled around you in cheers.
tanaka was in absolute shock, as he stared at his palms, "she just-what-i-"
"it's okay, man," noya slapped his back, "we'll get the next one,"
"no, but-" tanaka looked up to the side where the girls team were still cheering.
michimiya smothered you in a hug, squealing in delight while manami, your team's setter, smacked your ass playfully.
tanaka darted his eyes away quickly, trying not to fixate on the way your ass jiggled.
the whistle was blown again and you served with so much power that it landed on the end line of the court. even daichi was stunned.
this went on and you served for straight 7 points till the score was at an even 14-14.
manami set a high-ball, calling your name.
you took a step forward, arms swinging at your sides as you leaped into the air and spiked it hard.
the ball landed in tsukishima's positioned arms, but it ricochetted away.
coach ukai called a timeout and was yelling at the boys to get it together. tanaka found himself ogling at you, tracking your movements, unblinking.
the way you adjusted your shorts and tugged at the edge of your jersey. the way your throat bobbed with each sip of water. the way a bead of sweat rolled down the column of your neck, down the rounds of your - oh.
tanaka squeezed the water bottle in his clutch, gulping nervously.
"you're staring at her, tanaka," asahi pointed out, "that's not very nice. you look like you want to take her down,"
"ah, so i can worship her on my knees," tanaka shot back, a hazy smile spreading his face.
asahi turned red, giving his teammate a bizarre look, "huh?!"
"did you see how she read me and blocked my spike before? and did you see that counterattack? do you realize how incredibly hot that is to me?!"
"not really," asahi admitted.
"very, i agree," noya nodded.
"she's probably out of your league," tsukishima put it bluntly, pissed that he couldn't receive any of your serves.
"exactly!" tanaka exclaimed, clutching his heart dramatically, "what a woman," he sighed dreamily with heart eyes.
"get a hold of yourself!" suguwara slapped the back of his neck.
the match ended with a score of 24-26, and the boys won the match.
your coach was conversing with takeda and ukai, planning on conducting more such practice matches.
tanaka marched over to the other side of the court where you and your team were warming down after the match.
aihara, the vice-captain, nudged your elbow with hers and jutted her chin in tanaka's direction when he came to a stop in front of you.
you sat on the floor with your legs bent and your knees raised high in front of you. your arms were behind you, supporting your body as you leaned back. you blinked at tanaka in confusion, wondering why he would be approaching you.
the way your calf and thigh muscles flexed while you looked up at him added a touch of sensuality to the scene.
well, at least in tanaka's head.
tanaka couldn't comprehend the sight of you looking so effortlessly breathtaking.
"marry me!" he hollered at you.
the entire girls' volleyball team turned towards him, pinning him in his place with their gaze. some of the girls gasped while the others suppressed their giggles.
his fists were clenched at his sides and his face flushed red. he had been loud enough for the entire gym to hear.
you mouthed helplessly like a goldfish in water, eyes wide.
the entire gymnasium heard his loud command, the air thrumming with tension.
"no," you deadpanned at him.
"why!" tanaka fell to the floor in front of you with a cry, falling to his knees melodramatically.
daichi and suguwara mumbled their apologies for his behaviour and dragged a weeping tanaka back with them.
NISHINOYA
your position : outside hitter
as the boy's and girl's volleyball clubs lined up for a practice match, nishinoya couldn't help but steal glances at you— the girls' team's outside hitter.
he had been secretly crushing on you for a while now, admiring both on the court and in the classroom, staring at you shamelessly.
he even told tanaka all about you.
"you mean she's the one, bro?" tanaka glanced at noya over his shoulder, jutting his chin in your direction.
both teams were doing their warm-up drills before the practice match and everyone was practicing their attacks. you were with michimiya, as the setter explained something to you in a hushed voice.
noya saw you, making a funny face at something michimiya had said, and tipped your head to the side adorably.
you tapped the volleyball on the rubber floor couple of times, spinning it on your palm gracefully. your hair tipped back when you rotated your head, eyes closed and brows furrowed in focus.
noya grinned dreamily at you, shoulders sagging and mouth spreading wide, "yeah, her. the one,"
tanaka watched his mate drool over you, smacking his shoulder with a snicker.
noya snapped out of his daze, "every time she spikes, i always end up on the receiving end of it. as if, i was made to take what she gives me,"
"a bit weird, if you ask me," tsukishima commented.
"shut it, tsukishima!" noya snapped at his junior.
"you know, it's like a secret dance between us. she spikes the ball, i take it," he sighed pensively.
the match began, and noya found himself facing you on the other side of the net.
every time you sent over a powerful hit, he matched it with a perfect receive, sending the ball to his teammates.
you were impressed with his receiving skills but also annoyed that he received your attacks as if they were weak.
"manami, set it to me!" you called your team setter.
manami tossed the ball as you requested, setting the ball near the net.
you approached with precision, arms swinging back.
tanaka and kageyama were on the other side of the net, arms raised to block your shot.
the two boys stiffened when they realized you hadn't jumped yet and cursed in their heads.
"a time lag attack!"
even coach ukai was surprised. your coach wore a proud grin, mocking the boys' team coach with a taunting look. takeda watched you in wonder.
as tanaka and kageyama went down, you jumped, hitting the ball with everything you had, sending it soaring to the other side of the court.
unfortunately, none of the boys were prepared for your time-lag attack.
the ball hit hinata square in the face, ricocheting away to the other end of the gymnasium.
the entire girls' team gasped together. the boys watched their teammate fall flat on his back, grunting in pain and held his nose.
everyone crowded around the boy and you kneeled next to him, mumbling apologies, "shit, shit! i'm so so sorry. are you alright?"
"did you have your head up your ass?!" kageyama snapped at his teammate.
daichi and asahi helped him sit up; hinata watched everyone stare at him wearily, "y/n-san, i'm fine. you shouldn't worry too much. it would make noya-san very sad. he wouldn't want you sad,"
"huh?" you blinked unawarely.
michimiya and daichi exchanged a knowing glance; both of them knew their team members very well.
"shoyooo!" noya slung an arm around his neck, chuckling nervously, hoping you didn't listen to what the first year had let slip, "no, you see, the ball hit him too hard and he's— uh, all jumbled in the head. so we must take him to the infirmary!"
the crowd dispersed and hinata was taken to the infirmary, yamaguchi accompanied him.
ennoshita was subbed in for hinata and the match ended in the boys' team's favor.
even as you packed your stuff and got ready to leave you felt guilty about being the reason for hinata's injury.
you got so riled up by noya's receives that you went as far as to hit that hard and hurt someone.
hinata returned from the infirmary, striding back into the gym. his nose was bandaged up and streaks of purple bruises peaked from under it.
"the nurse told me all all the blood is internal. its where the blood is supposed to be, so i'm good to go!" hinata stated proudly.
kageyama palm-faced, dragging his hand down in frustration.
tsukishima and suguwara snickered, while asahi scolded them saying it wasn't so nice of them.
adjusting your bag over your shoulder, you approached the redhead, "hey, um, hinata. is it?"
the boy turned to you, eyes widening, darting to noya at the far end behind you before looking back at you, "yeah,"
"i just wanted to apologize," you stated, wincing sheepishly.
"what—no!" hinata smiled, but then grimaced when his nose ached from the action, "it doesn't even hurt.
you gave him a doubtful look, "are you sure?"
"yeah,"
you weren't convinced, but you had to get home and you bid your goodbye, spinning on your heel.
you double-stepped back, having nearly running into noya who was behind you.
"oop—hi," you chuckled awkwardly, "didn't see you,"
"er, yeah," noya rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, "i wanted to tell you you were amazing on court,"
you froze for a second. no one had really appreciated you or praised you for your game, you were pushing yourself forward convincing you didn't need any. but his words were like a salve to your yearning soul, "thank you. i could say the same thing about you. those receives of yours were pretty impressive,"
noya's cheeks turned even redder at your praise, his heart hammering in his chest, "well, i was a bit distracted there, with you looking so good when you play," he joked, trying to cover up his flustered state with a cheeky grin.
you chuckled, feeling a little coy, "is that why you keep staring at me instead of the ball, noya?"
noya's heart was racing as he tried to come up with a response to your compliment. he opened his mouth to speak, but all that came out was a jumble of stammered words and incoherent sounds.
the usual confidence he felt on the court had disappeared. he couldn't seem to form a coherent thought, let alone respond to your words.
"i—what—uh, you know my name?" he asked, flabbergasted.
"of course, i do," you looked at him with a weird look, head tilting back and a strand of hair fell from your head. noya itched to tuck it behind your ear.
"i'll see you around, noya," you waved your goodbye and walked out of the gymnasium.
as soon as you were out of view, noya snapped out of his day-dreaming and processed what had happened. he flirted with you. and you flirted back. AND YOU KNEW HIS NAME!
noya ran over to where tanaka was doing his stretches on the floor with suguwara, arms flapping above his head in excitement, "dude, DUDE! she knows my name!"
SUGAWARA
your position: middle blocker
sugwara was practicing his setting, tossing the ball up into the air and waiting for it to drop into his hands. while he was at it, his eyes caught a glimpse of you on the other end of the volleyball court where the girls were practicing for their match up against the boys.
you were struggling with a roll of tape, trying to wrap your fingers with it, but your hands seemed to be trembling. you grimaced in frustration, "damn it!"
sugawara set the ball down and quickly walked over to you, his voice gentle and soft, "do you need some help?" he asked, taking the tape from your shaking hands.
you looked up at him, nodding almost immediately, feeling a little embarrassed by your difficulty with the task, "yeah," you muttered, "i just can't seem to get the tape on straight. need to wrap 'em on my fingers,"
sugawara smiled kindly and gestured for you to hold out your hand, "here, let me do it," he said, his tone reassuring.
you held out your hand and sugawara took it gently in his. his other hand brushed over yours, spreading open your trembling fist. red and purple bruises were litterd on the sides of your fingers.
you spared a glance at him, assuming he'd be bombarding you with questions about all your injuries. but to your surprise, he remained silent.
his fingers were cool and firm against your skin, oddly comforting. he carefully began to wrap the tape around your fingers, careful not to wrap it too tight or too lose, his movements precise and practised.
every now and then, his thumb would brush against your knuckles, sending a small shiver up your spine.
as he worked, sugawara couldn't help but notice the way your eyelashes fluttered each time his fingers touched your skin, or especially when it grazed the inside of your wrist.
he tried to keep his focus on your hands, but his eyes kept wandering to your face, watching as you tried to suppress your reactions to his touch. the way your shoulders were taut. the way your throat bobbed when you swallowed nervously. the way your chest rose and fell with each breath. the way your teeth dug into your lower lip, and how badly he wanted to relieve it with his thumb— nope, don't go there.
sugawara blinked at the floor with wide eyes, surprised by his own thoughts and shook his head lightly.
as he continued, he realized that he was becoming increasingly distracted. he tried to focus on the task at hand, but his mind kept wandering, and taking in every detail of you.
the way your jersey and shorts clung to your body like second skin. the way your hair was tied back and draped over your shoulder with a few strands sticked out at the side of your face. the way you rolled your shoulder back, every rippling motion of your body.
he found himself blushing involuntarily, and he silently cursed his lack of control.
sugawara tried to distract himself from his growing distraction by making casual conversation, "you're on the girls' team, right?" he asked, keeping his tone as neutral as possible.
"yeah, no shit," you smiled sarcastically, raising your brows in amusement.
sugawara chuckled awkwardly, "of course, silly me,"
he continued wrapping your fingers, trying to keep his hands steady, "so, how long have you been playing volleyball?" he asked, hoping to get you talking and distract himself from the growing tension between you.
"since middle school,"
"ah," sugawara nodded, his eyes flickering to your face for a brief moment before returning to your fingers, "so you're a seasoned player, huh? no wonder you're giving us a run for our money,"
"you've seen me play?"
"couple of times," he replied, turning your hand over to check if he covered the injuries on your hand, "michimiya says your blocks are impossible to get through. I've seen them a couple of times myself,"
"hope you weren't stalking me," you joked, smiling lightly.
Sugawara chuckled, "i wouldn't mind stalking a pretty girl like you,"
but as soon as you look up at him in surprise, he blushed and quickly looked away.
"i—i mean your playing style. not stalking, observing, yes. that's the word. observing," he tips of his ear were beginning to turn red.
"i see," you held back a smile, itching to poke fun at him.
as sugawara finished wrapping the your middle finger, he held your hand for a moment longer, his fingers gently tracing the lines on your palm. he looked up at you, his eyes meeting yours, "there," he said softly, "all done,"
sugawara found himself completely flustered by your stare, his mind going blank. He could barely form a coherent thought as he looked into your eyes, drowning in them. those eyes, those eyes… they seemed to be reaching into his very soul, and he was powerless to resist.
his eyes flickered over your face. he was trying to keep himself composed, but he could feel his heart racing in his chest, and he was sure you could hear it too.
you both look down at your hands, you noticed that his pale skin was a stark contrast against your own, your taped fingers are intertwined with his. slotting together like puzzle pieces. a perfect fit.
you moved your thumb over his knuckle, transfixed. the tenderness in your touch made him feel vulnerable and weak in the knees. he could feel the heat rise in his cheeks as he attempted to steady himself.
the sensation of your fingers intertwined with his was both soothing and electrifying. He unconsciously squeezed your hand tighter, finding solace in the touch.
suddenly, a volleyball suddenly dropped right front of you two; you both startled apart. the interruption broke the moment, and you both quickly withdrew your hands.
yamaguchi clumsily retrived the ball, muttering a quick apology and head back to pepper with tsukishima.
he swallowed hard, his eyes never leaving yours. "uh, sorry," he muttered, his voice barely above a whisper. "I didn't mean to hold your hand for so long. it's just— your fingers felt really nice, and i—" he trailed off, unable to find the words to explain his own actions.
you could see the embarrassed blush on sugawara's face, his ears turning even redder as he fumbled over his words. his eyes kept flickering between your face and your hands, as if he was still struggling with the lingering sensation of your touch.
"It's fine," you managed to say. you couldn't hide the fact that you were flustered, "i didn't mind. also, thanks koshi," you held up your taped fingers.
he felt a surge of surprise and warmth at your use of his first name. it was rare for anyone outside of his close friends and teammates to use it, and hearing you say it made his heart skip a beat. his cheeks turned even redder.
sugawara felt a sense of relief that you weren't upset or uncomfortable with his actions. in fact, the subtle blush on your face seemed to indicate that you were indeed flustered. this observation only fueled his own desire, causing a newfound confidence to wash over him.
he noticed an edge of tape sticking up and smoothed it down on your finger, letting his touch linger.
"careful with those fingers of yours," he teased, "can't have the team lacking a middle blocker, can we?" he lifted your hand and playfully kisses the tip of your middle finger, his thumb grazing your knuckles. when he looked up at you, his eyes were filled with a tenderness that sent a flutter through your heart, "a little kiss for luck never hurt anyone."
"do you talk like this to every girl you meet?" you questioned with a quirk of your eyebrows.
"only to the one girl i'm trying to impress," he didn't miss a beat, winking at you, "and I can tell it's working," he teased, nodding at your flushed cheeks.
narrowing your eyes playfully, you snatched your hand back to your chest and got to your feet, "i'll see on the court, koushi," you let out a breath, giving him a sly grin.
sugawara smiled, his heart fluttering at the sound of his name on your lips, "yeah," he said, his voice a little huskier than usual, "see you on the court, y/n."
as you walked away, sugawara too got to his feet and headed back to where his team was doing their warm ups. he couldn't help but smile giddily as he looked at his own fingers, knowing that he had touched yours and felt your skin against his.
daichi, who had been watching the interaction between you and Sugawara from across the court, approached with a smirk on his face, "I see you got yourself 'wrapped up' in a little situation, didn't you, sugawara?" he teased, his voice dripping with amusement.
asahi was following behind daichi, blushing slightly and tried to hide a smile, "looks like someone has a crush," he teased, giving sugawara a nudge in the ribs with his elbow.
sugawara scowled at his friends, "quiet, you two," he muttered, his eyes flickering over to you.
you were flexing your fingers, making sure you could move them about and grinned to yourself. suguwara felt a stupid smile grow on his face, but it was quickly wiped when daichi and asahi descended upon him with their teasing, nudging him playfully.
sugawara's cheeks reddened as the two kept making playful comments about his obvious crush on you. he tried to act nonchalantly, but his flushed face betrayed his true emotions.
DAICHI
your position: setter
daichi sat across from you, trying to explain the complexities of modern japanese literature.
however, you were having a hard time focusing on the material. your mind was elsewhere, and you were desperately looking for a way to escape this tiresome tutoring session.
michimiya had reached out to you about a practice match today and needed you as the team's setter.
you kept bouncing your leg, blindly nodding along to whatever daichi was saying, trying to grasp onto it. you spared a glance at the message michimiya had sent you, thinking of a way of out this tutoring session.
finally, an idea popped into your head, "daichi," you began, making your voice sound solemn, "i can't stay for today's lesson. i just got a message. my grandmother's funeral is tomorrow, and i have to help with the preparations,"
daichi's expression softened as he heard your explanation, "oh, I see," he said gently, his voice laced with a hint of pity, "i'm sorry to hear about your grandmother. go and take care of your family. we can continue the lesson another time," he closed the book open in front of him.
you nodded, expressing your gratitude for his understanding, "thank you, daichi," you said quietly, "i really appreciate it. i promise i'll reach out to you when I'm ready to continue,"
he gave you a small nod and a faint smile before turning to leave, "take care of yourself," he said, his voice low, "and don't hesitate to reach out if you need anything,"
with that, he left the room, leaving you alone with your thoughts. you couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt for lying to him, but you also felt relieved that you had gotten away from the painful tutoring session.
later that evening, you had met up with the girls team and you were all stretching, preparing for the practice match.
michimiya arrived with the news that you were going to play with the boy's volleyball club team.
the girls were buzzing with nervous excitement as they prepared for the upcoming match. everyone knew the boys' team was strong, especially with their renowned setter, who was a first year. while some were intimidated, others were excited about the challenge.
as you warmed up with your teammates, you couldn't shake off a nagging feeling of worry. you wondered who the boys' setter was and how skilled they would be.
aihira, the vice-captain, patted your back, assuring you when she noticed your frown of doubt, "you can handle those first years, all you have to do is get under their skin, i've seen him play,"
the door of the gymnasium banged open, and the boys' team entered with a ruckus.
"that's the first years," aihra nodded to a short ginger, who was locked in a stare with a raven-haired boy who was taller than him, "their quick attacks are something else,"
"that's the second years," she gestured to boy with a buzz cut and the other who was almost in the same height as that first year ginger.
"you know suga, and asahi. oh, and that's—"
"—daichi," you completed when you spotted him. your heart skipped a beat and you couldn't help but freeze in surprise.
he had stepped in to separate hinata and kageyama arguing, chiding them for their behaviour.
as if sensing your presence, daichi looked up and his eyes locked with yours, widening in surprise.
you could feel your heart racing in your chest as his eyes met yours. a mixture of emotions flooded you — surprise, nervousness, and a hint of fear.
you cursed internally, knowing that your plan to avoid him had just been foiled.
"michimiya, hide me, please," you covered your face with your hands.
the captain blinked at you in confusion.
footsteps grew closer to you and within a few strides, daichi was in front of you, "y/n, didn't think you'd have time to join the volleyball club. thought you had to attend your grandmother's funeral,"
you winced a little and smiled sheepishly, "yeah, she's been dead for about five years now. i bet she's having a good laugh about it up above right now," you glared up at the sky.
daichi gave you an unimpressed look, "michimiya told me that you guys had a new setter. but i didn't know it was you,"
"new secret setter," you shot your teammate a glare.
she simply raised her hands in defense, "i didn’t know you guys knew each other," she said, bewildered, "and I didn’t know you were failing modern japanese literature, y/n," she chided.
"yeah, i'm her tutor, she's struggling with that particular subject. and she gave me the excuse of a funeral to attend to run away from me,"
"see, i'm struggling. not failing," you stated as a matter of fact.
"you better not," michimiya said, resting her hands on her hips, "or takeda will have u out of the team,"
daichi suppressed a smirk at your interjection, clearly amused by the exchange between you and michimiya, "she's right. you better not fail. i wouldn't want to be the reason you're kicked off the team,"
"you mad at me for lying to you?" you questioned, grimacing a bit.
daichi shrugged slightly, a small sigh escaping his lips, "i'm not mad," he said, his voice soft., "just a bit disappointed. i'm not too happy being lied to, but i understand you had your reasons,"
you look over your shoulder when you hear michimiya call you over to the court where the rest of the girls' team was warming up.
daichi watched as you made your way to warm up with the other girls, a slight smirk playing on his lips, "i look forward to seeing you play in the game," he called out, a hint of challenge in his tone, "i'm not going to go easy on you just because we know each other, you know,"
you glanced back at him, a mixture of determination and annoyance in your eyes, "i wouldn't worry about me if i were you," you retorted, a determined look on your face.
daichi chuckled at your threat, amused by your competitive spirit.
The match between the two teams commenced, with michimiya beginning with a serve.
the ball curved high into the air, sailing over the net with a satisfying hum. it descended on the boys side, and daichi quickly moved into position, ready to return the serve.
with precision and control, he executed a perfect pass to kageyama, who set the ball for an attack.
tanaka, positioned at the net, lunged forward and executed a powerful spike with a dramatic yell. the ball hurtling towards your side with impressive force.
anika leapt up to receive the ball, her arms stretched out in a desperate bid. she managed to get it high in the air.
you saw your chance and called for a set. aihara took a step back, swinging her arms, and jumped high to attack.
but you tossed the ball right over the net, to execute a drop.
"a setter dump!" someone shouted from the sidelines.
the unexpected move caught both daichi and noya off guard. they dove for the ball, but it landed right between them.
"damn it!" daichi exclaimed, his face flushed with frustration.
"a setter dump at the beginning of the game?" noya grumbled.
as the ball landed and the cheer erupted, your eyes met daichi's through the net. there was no mistaking the flicker of surprise and admiration in his gaze.
daichi gave you a sarcastic grin, a silent message, "nice move,"
you could see his composure waver momentarily, his initial arrogance giving way to a newfound respect for your skills.
a sly grin tugged at the corners of your mouth, satisfaction coursing through you. you knew you had surprised him, and it felt good.
returning his gaze, your eyes sparkled with confidence, silently gloating at the fact that you had managed to catch him off guard.
the match was a thrilling back-and-forth affair, with the score finely balanced. it was now 21-23, the boys team holding a slight edge.
asahi stepped up to serve, his powerful arm coiling back for a jump serve.
michimiya reacted quickly, diving to retrieve the powerful serve. however, the ball slipped past her, rolling sideways toward the backline.
you chased after the ball, leaping high to set it over your back. it was a risky maneuver, but you managed to elevate the ball just enough for your teammates to react.
hinata and yamaguchi watched set the ball in awe, jaws agape. even sugawara was staring at you in bafflement.
kageyama and tsukishima rose up to block, their arms outstretched, ready to intercept the attack. Aihara with a quick flick of her wrist, tipped the ball over their block, sending it back towards the opposing side.
noya dove to receive the ball, but it slipped past his outstretched hands.
asahi, realizing the opportunity, pulled off an emergency set, directing the ball toward their captain.
daichi, with a powerful leap and swing, spiked the ball back towards your side.
you reacted swiftly, blocking the spike with your outstretched arms.
however, the ball rolled off your hand and fell on the boys side of the court. getting on one knee, kageyama managed to set it in first touch, tossing the ball high.
tsukishima, seizing the opportunity, spiked the ball with all his might.
watabi, the girls' libero, dove to receive the ball, but it landed just outside the sideline.
the boys' team had won the point, bringing the score to 24-21 in their favor. the match was reaching its climax, and the tension on the court was palpable.
"it's okay, we'll get the next one!" michimiya cheered, her voice filled with optimism.
you exchanged nods and smiles, each player recognizing the effort and determination put into the match.
daichi stepped up to serve. as he tapped the ball on the floor a couple of times, he looked up, catching your eyes. you shot him a playful wink, causing him to stutter momentarily.
daichi served the ball and it sailed over the net.
"i got it!" you called for it, stepping back and took the pass that would've been your libero's receive.
sugawara was watching with hinata and yamaguchi, "why would she go so far as to take a ball that would land in the back court?"
michimiya approached the net as if to attack, but instead, she did an overhead pass to you,
tanaka and tsukishima, expecting her to attack, were caught off guard.
the ball soared in your direction and you spiked the ball with a grunt.
the ball landed on the sideline, passing past daichi, surprising everyone.
hinata, ever enthusiastic, couldn't contain his excitement, "she's so cool! way cooler than kageyama!" he exclaimed, his eyes wide with admiration.
kageyama shot him a glare, causing hinata to wince and look away. but even he couldn't deny, you were pretty impressive.
you pumped your fist in the air, celebrating your successful play. your teammates gathered around you, complimenting you on the impressive move.
daichi watched you intently, noticing your manic focus and competitive spirit. this level of intensity was something he had never seen before.
eventually, the match ended in favor of the boys' team, but the memory of your exceptional play would linger in their minds for a long time.
warming down after the match, you were gathering your things when you heard footsteps approaching.
turning, you saw daichi making his way towards you, "you were amazing on the court,"
you slung the duffle bag over your shoulder, a grin spreading across your face, "thanks," you replied, feeling a flush of pride welling up inside you.
"and that little wink you sent me during my serve earlier," he said, giving you a pointed look.
you couldn't suppress the grin that spread across your face as you replied, "ah, so you did see it,"
"of course, i did," daichi said, "you're not exactly subtle, you know,"
"but careful with that attitude sweetheart, or i'll have to teach you how to behave yourself," he reached up and tucked a strand of hair heind your ear, dragging his finger down the curve of your face.
you felt a shiver run down your spine at his words, a mixture of excitement and nervousness swelling in your chest, "is that a threat, daichi?" you asked, unable to keep the cheeky tone from your voice.
he chuckled softly, a mischievous gleam in his eye, "it's a promise. but I have a feeling you might enjoy it,"
with that, daichi walked away after sending you a sly look. you could feel your cheeks flushing with a mixture of embarrassment and excitement.
meanwhile, noya and tanaka were watching the interaction, their eyes wide with disbelief and amusement.
"did you just see that?" noya gasped, turning to tanaka, "our captain was totally flirting with her!"
"and not just flirting," tanaka chimed in, a sneaky grin spreading across his face, "he was laying it on thick, man. i think he's got some serious skills,"
"yeah, he definitely does. but I still can't believe he had the guts to do it right in front of us. our captain's got game, man,"
daichi spun around as he heard the sound of noya and tanaka's voices, his eyes narrowing as he shot them a warning glare, "shut it, both of you!"

Teamwork
word count; 1346 – f!reader
Kageyama was always persistent when he set his mind to something, and most of that dedication had always gone to volleyball. However, something else had been taking over his perfect concentration ever since the day he first talked to you. He’s in his second year at Karasuno, and it’s his first time experiencing something that feels like a crush.
You’re in Karasuno’s volleyball club, a starting player on the girls’ team. More specifically, you play in the position of setter. This year’s new captains for each team agreed that doing a joined practice would be a fun way to strengthen both teams, and this fuelled a competitive spark between you and Kageyama. You both quickly realised that Kageyama was much better than you, but that just gave you even more opportunity to learn from him. Instead of competition. it turned into friendship.
After that you kept stopping by each other when the other had practice, giving each other both teasing criticism and helpful tips, also making it very obvious that you were there to watch each other. There is no way the other members of your teams wouldn’t notice how you two were drawn to each other, but no one really witnessed any decent flirting.
Kageyama came to practice looking particularly bothered one day, making Ennoshita laugh at the pout on the youngest second-year’s face as he encouraged him to get to practising. No one dared poke the bear. No one except Hinata.
“Poutyyama!” he screeched, dancing around the taller player with a smile. “You were annoyed even before you saw me today, what’s up?” he asked, obviously aiming more at teasing than helping. However, Kageyama finally fell into a state of desperation. He kept glancing angrily between Hinata and the volleyball in his hands. He mumbled something under his breath that no one could pick up on, everyone in the gym slowing to a stop to watch as the boy didn’t immediately kick Hinata’s butt. This made Kageyama’s blush spread from his ears over his temples. “What was that?”
“I don’t know how to flirt,” he mumbled, this time a bit more audible. A snort came from behind him, where Yamaguchi and Tsukishima covered their mouths so Ennoshita wouldn’t yell at them.
“Flirt?” Hinata repeated loudly, looking absolutely horrified at the concept. “Who are you trying to flirt with?” This made Kageyama finally react, pouncing on his friend in aggression. Tanaka came walking over to separate them, Nishinoya trailing close behind with his chin held high.
“Obviously, it’s the pretty setter from the girls’ team,” Tanaka announced.
Nishinoya nodded. “It’s so obvious, now listen to the love doctors,” he said, putting his hands together like he was praying and catching Kageyama’s attention. “How have you advanced so far?”
“Well…” Kageyama takes a moment to think, lowering his shoulders. “I told her that her spike serves were great, showed her how to make the set curve and stop, or tried to but she didn’t really get it, and I bought her an extra box of milk when I went to the vending machine,” he listed. The rest of the boys blinked silently at him for a moment. Not exactly romantic, but it could be worse.
Tanaka put an arm over his shoulders. “Have you asked her to go out with you? Marry you?” he suggested as if it was the greatest tip ever. Kinoshita scoffed, rolling his eyes.
“You can’t just do that right away. We could ask someone on the girls’ team if she likes him back first?” he suggested, a bit more shy about romantic advances than his friends.
“That’s not a bad idea,” Ennoshita said, but he looked hesitant. “But there is something sweet about telling her you like her. It seems to me like she likes you too.”
Kageyama looked at his captain with hopeful eyes, clinging on to every word. “It does?”
“Hopeless…” came from Tsukishima along with a sigh.
“Well, what else did you expect,” Hinata added and crossed his arms, narrowly dodging Kageyama’s punch.
Yamaguchi chuckled but engaged nonetheless. “You can ask her to hang out outside of school and club,” he suggested, which was actually the best option presented to him so far. A couple of murmurs went around the room in agreement, and then Ennoshita clapped his hands.
“Let’s get back to practice! If she likes Kageyama, she’ll like whatever he decides to do.”
Kageyama was staring at a message from you with a weird smile and a calculating mind after getting home for the night. You wrote him saying you look forward to the joined practice you had scheduled after school tomorrow. What is he supposed to do? How does he return your energy, as he read in that one article he got through before getting bored of reading?
Ennoshita thinks you like him back. Maybe he should just combine all the tips he got into one. That has to make it a failsafe. As long as he leaves out the marriage part…
He slowly types it out, making sure there are no spelling errors before sending it and finally putting his phone to the side so he can try to sleep.
I like you, will you go out with me? We could do something outside of school and club activities.
Oh boy, did his teammates have a field day with his chosen tactic when he told them about it at morning practice. You hadn’t answered yet, but Kageyama wasn’t too worried about it as it was still early.
The third years looked especially pale, while the second years were mostly laughing.
“You did all of it, how creative!” Narita said in the most positive manner he could manage, making up for the others who were sitting quietly in their guilt over saying anything yesterday and then leaving him to his own defences. “Let us know when she answers.”
Kageyama nodded with a decisive smile, still pretty happy with his solution. Practice commenced and the team mostly forgot about the situation for a few hours until they returned to the locker rooms all sweaty. Kageyama was pulling on his clean shirt when there was a vibration on the bench below him. His phone.
Meanwhile, you had arrived at school half an hour before that, gathering as many of your friends as you could for help. You were practically buzzing with excitement, as Kageyama was the last person you expected to be this forward about such a topic. The girls squealed, and even a teacher hushing you in passing couldn’t calm down your energy levels. You all spent a while deciding on what to answer and then you chose to add the smiley at the end yourself, butterflies in your stomach as you sent the message.
That sounds great, actually :D
Kageyama didn’t even notice most of his team looking over his shoulder with loose jaws as they read your response, as he was too busy freaking out over it himself. “Yamaguchi!” he yelled, yelling again in surprise when he turned around to see the guy standing there already, along with a few of the others who were more shameless in their snooping. “Help.”
It took some work, but you two were finally enjoying your first date, going for ice cream in the sun and getting to know each other more.
Hinata and Tanana were ready to pretend they had no idea this was where they went for the date in case anyone caught them spying, but were amused to bump into three of the girls from your team as well, who were also trying to find the best spot for watching you without being spotted. Their precious setters, somehow mastering communication when it was with each other. When you got home, you would blame your red cheeks on a sunburn, for sure.
But it was actually from Kageyama awkwardly kissing your cheek before leaving.
You see, Kageyama had texted Sugawara last night for tips, and he told him that if he felt like the date had gone well, he could kiss your cheek before he left.
masterlist
/I imagine Yachi wasn't there when they gave him tips and when Hinata told her everything she got so stressed out on Kageyama's behalf, she's so precious

You adjusted your uniform for what felt like the sixth time that morning, glancing at your reflection in the school bathroom mirror. With a held breath, you stepped back into the empty hallway, checking once more the paper in your hand with precise directions to the teachers’ lounge. There, you were supposed to meet Professor Ittetsu Takeda for a brief tour of Karasuno High.
You stopped in front of the door and, after taking a deep breath, knocked a couple of times. The door opened, revealing a tired-looking woman who lowered her gaze when she saw you.
"Yes?" she asked, her expression somewhat neutral.
"Excuse me, is Professor Takeda here?" you asked, hesitating slightly as your fingers played with the Sanrio keychain hanging from the strap of your bag, trying to calm your nerves.
Before the woman could respond, a young man with a friendly appearance, wearing glasses and a green tracksuit, appeared suddenly and offered you a small bow.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Takeda-sensei. I’m really grateful that you’re giving me this tour,” you said with a calm voice.
"The pleasure is mine!" Takeda responded enthusiastically. "Karasuno High is a special place, and I’m sure you’ll feel welcome here. Are you ready for the tour?"
“Yes, sensei,” you replied with a smile, feeling your nerves start to fade, thanks to the professor's warmth.
Takeda nodded, giving you a brief summary of the various spaces you’d visit as you walked down the school’s hallways. The tour would start at the main facilities and finish at the gym. As you walked, he explained the structure of the school’s clubs and the steps to take if you were interested in joining one.
“Do you have a music club?” you asked, quickening your pace to keep up with him. Your old school didn’t have such a club, so you hoped to find one at Karasuno.
Takeda paused briefly, adjusting his glasses before replying.
“I can’t say for sure,” he answered, thoughtful. “Last year we had a music club, but it was quite small, and I’m not sure if it will continue this year.” He opened one of the exit doors and, gesturing with his hand, invited you to go first. “Do you like music? Do you play an instrument?”
“Yes!” you replied enthusiastically, your eyes lighting up as you spoke. “I’ve been playing the piano since I was eight.”
As you moved through the hall, you shared with Takeda-sensei how your interest in music began. You talked about the hours spent practicing, the recitals, and how the piano had given you a personal refuge and a means of expression.
“That’s admirable, Y/N,” said Takeda with a genuine smile as he listened to your story. “Just one last stop,” he added before stopping. “Well, here we are. This is the gym. Impressive, isn’t it?”
“Wow…” you murmured as you entered, taking in the vast space, much larger than anything you’d seen at your previous school. “It’s amazing.”
Takeda nodded, visibly pleased with your reaction.
“That’s right. This is where the volleyball team trains and plays their matches,” he said, crossing his arms over his chest as he looked around the space. “You might even get a chance to see them in action one day.”
The suggestion piqued your curiosity. You’d heard of Karasuno’s volleyball team’s reputation and began to imagine the vibrant energy and excitement during their matches.
“Well, that’s all for today,” Takeda concluded, turning to you with a kind expression. “I hope the tour helped you get a little more familiar with the school. If you have any other questions or need help, don’t hesitate to find me.”
You returned his smile, feeling that the warm environment of the school had started to dispel your initial nerves. As you left the gym and bid farewell to Takeda-sensei, you truly felt welcome at Karasuno, certain that this was the beginning of a new chapter full of possibilities.
The persistent sound of the alarm clock echoed through your room, abruptly pulling you out of sleep. You sat up quickly, the excitement of your first day at the new school banishing any trace of drowsiness. You dressed hurriedly, making sure every detail was in place, and dashed downstairs, almost skipping, arriving at the kitchen where your mother was finishing preparing breakfast.
“Mom, breakfast!” you said, leaning against the counter with an expectant smile.
“Here you go,” your mother replied, carefully placing the breakfast into your bag. She then moved closer, bending slightly to adjust your uniform and gently fix your hair. “Do you want me to take you to school?”
“No, thanks, I’ll walk,” you said, giving her a kiss on the cheek as a goodbye.
With the key safely tucked in your skirt pocket, you left the house and began walking uphill toward the school. As you plugged your headphones into your phone, you let the first chords of your favorite song fill your ears, creating a small bubble of tranquility around you.
Suddenly, a sharp voice cut through the music in your headphones.
“Watch out!”
Startled, you looked up just in time to see a boy on a bicycle speeding toward you. With quick reflexes, you stepped out of the way, feeling the rush of air as he zoomed past you.
“Sorry!” the boy shouted as he continued pedaling, not slowing down.
“Idiot…” you muttered, irritated, as you returned your attention to your phone to change the music. With a sigh, you decided to let the small incident go and focus on the rest of your walk. The morning was still young, and in the air, you felt a mix of nerves and excitement about what the day would bring in this new chapter of your life.
You entered the classroom and chose a desk near the window, from where you could observe your new classmates as they settled in. The atmosphere quickly filled with conversations and laughter, with several students starting to form groups and chat enthusiastically. You found yourself wishing for the same, repeating to yourself that you would make friends eventually, as you watched more classmates enter and take their seats.
Soon after, the teacher entered the room and began writing some instructions on the board before turning to the group.
"Alright, everyone, split into groups of three to start today’s activity," she announced energetically, leaving the chalk on her desk.
You frowned as you looked around, aware that you didn’t know anyone yet. You hoped someone would invite you to join a group, fearing you'd end up alone while the others formed their teams.
"Hey... hey, you," a voice called out toward you.
You turned your head to see a short boy with orange hair and a friendly smile. He was extending his hand toward you, and as you looked at him more closely, you immediately recognized him as the same boy who had almost run you over with his bicycle that morning.
"Do you want to team up with me?" he asked with an upbeat expression.
You hesitated for a moment, but quickly realized you didn’t have many options.
"Sure," you agreed, trying to hide your surprise.
The boy’s face lit up as if he had just won a prize. Without hesitation, he moved his desk next to yours and sat down, showing the same energy he had earlier.
"I’m Shoyo Hinata!" he introduced himself enthusiastically. "And you?"
His energy was contagious, and although you started the conversation with some reservation, you couldn’t help but smile at his friendliness.
"I’m Y/N Y/LN," you replied, noticing that despite the morning mishap, the idea of having such an enthusiastic and friendly partner wasn’t so bad.
Hinata, moving energetically in his seat, looked at you with a wide smile.
"It’s a pleasure. I saw you this morning on your way to school," he said, his enthusiasm palpable. "I almost ran you over, I'm really sorry."
He looked slightly embarrassed by the confession, but the sincerity in his tone made you feel like there was no ill intent.
"It’s okay, it was my fault," you replied, trying to reassure him. You saw him relax as the excitement returned to his eyes. However, his expression soon turned thoughtful.
"Hey, Hinata, we still need one more person," you commented, remembering that the group needed to have three members.
"Right!" he exclaimed quickly, looking around the classroom with anxiety before pointing to a girl at the back of the class, her black hair falling in soft waves over her shoulders as she fiddled with her phone. "How about we ask her?"
You looked at the girl he had pointed to. She seemed completely absorbed in her screen, not paying much attention to the commotion around her.
"Of course, why not?" you replied, determined. You had nothing to lose.
Hinata, with resolve, stood up from his seat with a confident smile and quickly made his way to the girl. It was clear that he wasn’t the type to hesitate or hold back for too long. You watched him as he approached and said something you couldn’t hear. After a couple of brief exchanges, the girl looked up, seemed to think about it for a moment, and finally nodded.
Hinata returned to your side, accompanied by the girl, who sat down at the empty desk in front of you.
"Nice to meet you, I’m Nakamura Nayuta," she said with a shy smile, introducing herself politely.
When the teacher saw the group was complete, she began explaining the instructions for the activity. As the class went on, the three of you began to share details about yourselves. It turned out that none of you had ever been to Karasuno before, which gave you another point of connection. When the activity ended, you decided to keep talking and get to know each other better.
"Ahh, Nayuta-san, do you like volleyball?" Hinata asked enthusiastically, pointing to the background on Nayuta's phone, where volleyball player Ishikawa Yūki appeared.
"No," Nayuta replied distractedly, without taking her eyes off her phone.
"What? But you have a volleyball player as your wallpaper!" Hinata looked genuinely surprised, almost disappointed by the answer. Then, with his eyes shining with excitement, he turned to you. "And you, Y/N-san? What do you think of volleyball?"
"No, I’m not very good at playing, I prefer music," you confessed, doodling on the corner of Nayuta’s notebook with your pen. You couldn’t help but feel a bit of sympathy for Hinata, with his energy so contagious.
Hinata, seeing that neither of you shared his enthusiasm for volleyball, felt a little discouraged but quickly composed himself. "I love volleyball!" he said with a wide smile, his eyes shining with determination. "And I plan to become the next star of Karasuno."
"Aren’t you a little short to play volleyball?" Nayuta asked, still not looking away from her phone. The question, delivered with unsettling calm, made Hinata’s shoulders drop slightly. As for you, you couldn’t help but stifle a small laugh at your new friend’s direct comment.
Hinata, however, didn’t lose his composure. "Yes, but I'll be as cool as the Little Giant," he said, regaining his enthusiasm. With a defiant attitude, he crossed his arms over his chest, as if he could already visualize his bright future.
"I’m sure you’ll make it," you replied, smiling as you looked at the passion in Hinata’s eyes. His optimism was refreshing, and his determination seemed genuine. The conversation flowed easily, and you were starting to feel like part of this small group, despite being new to the school.
Nayuta finally looked at both of you with a calm expression. "Whatever you do, I hope you have fun," she said, her words more reserved but filled with a subtle warmth.
"I’m already excited to join the volleyball team!" Hinata exclaimed with enthusiasm, quickly packing his school materials into his bag. "What about you guys? Which club are you going to join?"
"I don’t know yet," you replied, briefly considering the possibilities. The music club had caught my attention, but as Takeda sensei mentioned, I wasn’t sure if it would still be offered this year. I looked at Nayuta, who, with slight indifference, shrugged.
"I’ll probably join the reading club," she said with a small smile, not offering much more.
The bell rang, signaling the end of the class, and the students began to get up from their seats and leave the classroom. Nayuta quietly said her goodbyes, heading toward her next destination. Hinata, on the other hand, wasted no time and turned to me with a look full of enthusiasm.
"Let’s go, Y/N! Come with me to the gym, maybe something will catch your eye and you'll join," he said, making an animated gesture with his hands. His energy was contagious, and I couldn’t help but smile at his excitement. Seeing my hesitation, he added with an even more pleading tone: "Please!"
I felt a bit embarrassed by the way he asked me to join him, but in the end, I accepted with a slight smile. "Alright, alright," I replied, feeling the warmth in my cheeks as I noticed some people in the hallways staring at us curiously due to Hinata's commotion.
"Yes! Wait here, I’ll change first!" he exclaimed, almost shouting, before running off toward the boys’ bathroom.

kagehina headcanons
the first week they were in karasuno together and dropping gay ass lines like "when i'm here you're invincible" and shit everyone in the club would just stop what they're doing and clock them.
but back then no one really knew each other because the first years were new to the club so everyone was too nice to say anything about it– EXCEPT gay ass tsukishima but kageyama and hinata always ignore him so
and then everyone just gradually became used to their BS and wouldn’t react. but every time they had a game and were acting like That the players on the opposing team would be like ‘??? tf going on here? explain why ur first years are acting like That??’ so karasuno would have to be reminded
kageyama getting cute aggression with hinata but not knowing what it is
hinata feeling stronger every time kageyama was near and thinking it's because kageyama treats him as an equal
kageyama and hinata planning on hanging out to do mostly volleyball-related stuff in high school but then it bleeding into their personal life. study sessions that do not help them at all (it's the blind leading the blind), dinner with the hinatas where hinata and kageyama are forced to play dolls with natsu. dinner at the kageyamas where hinata gets a haircut from miwa. going to eat out together but having no pocket change to do so (definition of broke fifteen year olds) so they try to find the cheapest vending machines.
everyone just assumed they'd get together eventually through high school because these boys were so obviously obsessed with each other. but then they never did and they stayed in the weird but comfortable in-between and confused the shit out of everyone
neither hinata or kageyama are romance-driven individuals at ALL so they never found out they had feelings for each other because they were just not fussed to dissect it. there's so much in their relationship that lays on top of their romantic love for each other that they find much more important
i think it isn't until they unofficially 'split' up that they realise 'actually i think i might be in love with this guy' but even then there's more important things then their love for each other. it doesn't shake them to their core or anything, it's just a bit heartbreaking because now they're apart and they only just came to terms with it.
funnily enough, they're not the type to be overthinking what the other is doing or getting jealous or possessive in the long interim. they know each other so well– they know exactly what the other would be doing and they respect it because they understand implicitly why their choices need to be made. it would have been the loss of understanding that would have really scared them, but they’re such soulmates i seriously doubt they would ever lose that
they are so secure in their relationship. they sort of implicitly know that at the end of the day, they'll be Them again because there's not really another option. all roads will lead back to each other. no one else completes and challenges the other like they do. so even though it can be painful, and there's a lot of obstacles through it all, life is long and winding and eventually they know they'll find the other again.
i think they would get with other people (especially i can see hinata doing that, i headcanon kageyama as demisexual so i think there would be less desire to experiment on his side) after high school and experiment and find out what they like and stuff. but they're always each other's number one.
yeah soulmatism at its finest
what WOULD hurt them is seeing the same sort of indescribable connection replicated by the other with someone else. it doesn't have to be romantic (it usually isn't), but knowing that other people have the privilege of growing beside the person they love above all else, but their dream forces them to be apart would def open up some wounds
nothing excites them more than playing against each other. it doesn't matter if its on the world stage or in someone's backyard
they have crazy eye sex through the net and everyone thinks they're freaks. straight teenage boys think they hate each other and make tiktok edits of their rivalry with brazillian phonk in the background. others just think they act gay for clout (loud incorrect buzzer)
probably had a impromptu makeout sesh in the locker rooms a few times. then they act completely normal after
their sisters fw them so bad. miwa and natsu text each other just to complain about how long it's taking for them to just... get married
kageyama offers to train natsu with volleyball a lot and offer her tips. miwa glams hinata up for special events on the house
when kageyama and hinata verse each other in a home game their families link up at one of their houses just to watch over dinner and after the game both kagehina go home together and just eat a late meal at whoever is hosting that night. they're arguing the entire time but it's chill
kagehina gets brand deals with rival companies alllllll the time
i think they actually start officially dating MUCH later in life. towards the end of their careers or after their careers as volleyball players. but at that point they've been in an unofficial relationship for twenty or so years and they act like it too.
idk if marriage and kids is for them tbh but i don't think it's necessarily out of the cards. i just think they'll be too distracted to settle for a long while. they have to practice extra long on how to be two functional adults. if they do get married i can see them being like... seventy when it happens haha
#kagehina you will always be famous#they are such strange fifteen year old boys at heart i don't want them to ever grow up ever ever ever ever#queerplatonic from the get go and then it grows out into something more. but they've always been what they've always been#kagehina#shobio#kageyama tobio#hinata shoyo#shoyo hinata#hinata shouyou#haikyuu#haikyuu!!#hq#hq!!#hinata natsu#miwa kageyama#karasuno#rewriting

You Seriously Didn't Know?
Oikawa Tooru was a volleyball-brained idiot. All his past relationships knew it, and so did all of his teammates. However, they didn't realize how much until the first week of his 3rd year.
L/n Y/n was cool. I mean, the kinda cool that gets her own fan club as soon as she starts school. You could tell she had multiple piercings but only ever wore her studs to school. She had well-manicured nails, but there were calluses on her palms. She wore the uniform so well. She gave off an ora of respect, and everyone soon watched what the new upperclassman would do.
L/n Y/n had gone to an all-girls high school until her final year when she transferred to Aoiba Josai due to her school going under. She had been the girls' volleyball team manager back at her old school. Unfortunately, the girls' volleyball club at her new school had been disbanded after the last 3rd years graduated.
That's how we ended here in the present. Team Captain Oikawa Tooru, the most popular boy in his year, is silent for once. He watches as the coach talks to the pretty new girl, red in the face.
"Oi! Shittykawa! Stop gaping at the pore girl and get to practicing!" Iwaizumi is so close to throwing a ball at the pretty boy's head.
Suddenly, Oikawa turns to him with a massive smile, "Iwa-chan! I think I've found the love of my life!!"
Is he that stupid? Is all Iwaizumi can think as he looks between the girl and his best friend. Welp! He'll learn the hard way.
"Y/n-chan~"
"Yes Oikawa-san?"
Oikawa pouted.
"How come you still won't call me by my first name!?"
Y/n just raised a brow.
"I don't recall giving you permission to call me by my first name, Oikawa-san, but you don't see me pestering you about it?"
Pfft- The other third years tried to hold in their laughter as their captain got shot down for the fourth time that week.
It was Tuesday.
It has been two months since L/n Y/n joined the boys' volleyball club as their manager. In those two months, Oikawa Tooru has tried every trick in the book to woo the pretty transfer student, but nothing seems to work.
He was so close to straight-up confessing, but he didn't wanna make things awkward.
"Oi! Oikawa-san! Coach said you wanted a practice match with karasuno right?"
"Yeah! That's right."
"Well, you got it! It's in a week, and they agreed to your dumbass terms."
"Yes, Tobio-chan, I can't wait to crush your spirit!"
The manager made a weireded out face and smacked the captain over the head.
"You got issues, man."
"Koko!"
"Hello, my love."
The two women smiled as they stared at each other. They hadn't had much time to spend together as they both had club activities.
Y/n leaned in and kiss her lover's forehead as she brought her into a hug.
"I missed you."
"I missed you too."
Kiyoko's grip tightened around Y/n's waist and nuzzled into her neck. Their teams were great and they loved spending time with them was too much.
"We have a practice match against your team."
"I know." Kiyoko's voice was a little muffled as she spoke against her girlfriend's neck, her breath sending a shiver down Y/n's spine.
"I think if your team wins the captain of mine with throw a fit."
Kiyoko giggled and pulled back, looking into her lover's eyes.
"We'll just have to see then won't we?"
Y/n smiled and leaned in,"I guess we will."
chu~
The day of the Karasuno vs. Aoba Josai practice match finally came, and Oikawa was late and missing.
"I swear I'll kill him."
"I won't stop you, but try not to do it in front of the other team. Fewer witnesses that way."
"Manager-san, you scare me sometimes."
"Good!"
Karasuno finally entered the gym. The captain, Sawamura Daichi, spots a familiar face on the other side of the court.
"Hey Kiyoko?"
Kiyoko looks up from her clipboard, "Yes Daichi-san?"
"Isn't that Y/n? I thought she went to an all girls school?"
Sugawara butted in, "No, she transfered right? Cause the school closed down?"
"Koushi is right. She became the manager about two months ago, that's how we were able to secure this practice match."
Sugawara started nudging his manager,"Using your connections huh?"
Kiyoko blushed, "Nothing of the sort. It was just convenient timing."
"Course, Course."
---
On the other side of the gym Y/n's teammates kept wondering why karasuno seemed to know their manager.
Iwaizumi finally asked, "Hey, L/n?"
"Yes, Iwaizumi?"
"Do you know people at karasuno? They keep looking at you."
"Oh? Yeah! My girlfriend is their manager, and I've met the second and third years on their team!"
"Really? Is that why it was so easy to set up a practice match?"
"More or less."
"Okay."
Man, Oikawa will get the wake-up call of his life today if he bothers to show up.
"ALL RIGHT LINE UP!"
Karasuno won by a hair.
They knew that but DAMN it felt good.
Y/n noticed Oikawa missing after the murder of crows left and decided to follow them and look for him, knowing his antics would likely get him in trouble.
"There's not much time left 'til the tournament. I look forward to seeing you there."
"OI!"
Oikawa flinched and looked ahead. There stood his manager and love of his life looking very pissed off.
"WHAT HAVE I SAID ABOUT TORMENTING OTHER TEAMS OFF THE COURT!!!"
Karasuno's third years just smiled at the scene, used to the girl's antics.
"Y/n-chan~ but whyyyy?"
"It's foul play, and you know it!"
"Y/n it's okay, his little speal gave us motivation!"
"You're too nice daichi."
Oikawa looked startled.
"Wait, Y/n-chan you know them?"
"Yeah our manager Kiyoko is her girlfriend."
GIRLFRIEND!?

"Wow, for someone who's bi, your gaydar is shit."
"No wonder she never flirted back with me."

Glass Heart, take flight - Asahi x Reader
A/N: Soulmate AU, requested for the Follower Celebration, tagging @screamin-abt-haikyuu because DUH!
You’ve got a Glass Heart tattooed just below your left ear.
It’s small enough to hide behind your hair or a pair of earrings if you want to.
You don’t know when you’ve got it. It’s what happens to people who are too young when they meet their soulmate. You're pretty sure you know who it was though, not that it helps.
-
Gravel flies everywhere as you fall off the swing. You’d meant to fly as high as you dared, when someone grabbed chains from behind, bringing you to an abrupt stop. You fall face first, tears spilling over your bruised cheeks way before you can start wailing.
“Are you okay?” Someone asks, picking you up with ease. For a moment, you think it’s someone’s parent, but when long fingers carefully grab your chin and turn your face around to inspect the damage, you see it’s a boy, maybe a few years older than you, lanky and long-haired.
His touch is soft and tickles, surprising you enough to stop crying.
“Who are you?” You ask.
Your words break whatever spell there had been. He jumps back, blushing.
“I, uh, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to.”
He moves back, step after step after step. You try to grab him, what for, you don’t know yet. But you miss, nothing but air between your outstretched hands.
“I’ll go grab your Mum,” he insists, jogging away.
-
“What school are you going to next year?” Miri asks over Lunch.
Your fingertips find the little heart beneath your ear that appeared last night.
“Sekodai,” you tell her as confidently as you’ll ever be.
“Ah.” She nods. “They’ve got a great Volleyball Club, or so I’ve heard.”
“Yeah.” You shrug. “But I’m more into art.” And cute guys. But you don’t say that out loud.
-
“Hi. I’m from Class 1.5. Could I draw you? It’s for the Art Club.”
You watch as he blushes, the redness reaching even the tops of his ears.
“I…” He stammers helplessly.
“Dang, Asahi!” One of his classmates whistles lowly. “You’ve got game!”
“I…” His voice’s barely a voice anymore. It sounds more like a kettle whistling. Well, at least you know his name now. He cut his hair shorter and it’s wavy, framing his face in a way that makes you want to drag your hands through it. Or paint it, whatever he’ll allow.
“Please?” You ask. “It won’t take long. It’s just a sketch.”
“F-Fine…” He’s still red-faced when he arrives for the session, relaxes only slightly when he realizes that he’s not the only one.
Most students have asked their classmates to sit for their panting. He’s not the only third-year, but the teacher eyes him curiously.
“Do you need something?” She asks. “We normally don’t have high schoolers visiting.”
“I-I… I’m a student here.” Asahi stutters helplessly. “Third year.”
“Oh.” She blinks. “How old are you then?”
“He looks older than he is.” You interrupt, reaching forward to take his hand, to pull him away from the discussion he’s clearly dreading.
Asahi pulls his hand away like you’re a snake, ready to bite.
It hurts more than you let on.
He barely speaks as he sits for his portrait. Today’s lesson is meant to be in black and white and while you’re glad he agreed to sit for you, you hate the fact that all his blushing is lost to you. You can do nothing more but hope the image will burn itself into your brain, for that you’ll never go without it.
When you’re done and you turn the canvas for him to see, he stills.
A multitude of emotions flickers over his face, each too fast for you to catch before he bows so low you fear for his spine.
“Thank you for considering me.” He presses through his teeth and darts from the room and you pretend you don’t notice that he takes a few extra steps to avoid the risk of touching you.
-
The sound of a whistle cuts through your heart.
Below you, Karasuno loses, Dateko wins.
Asahi’s grown taller in the two years you haven’t seen him. His hair has grown out too.
But there’s added weight on his shoulders, you can tell by the way he walks.
Your fingertips reach for the Glass Heart below your ear. You wonder how it’s holding up now.
“Are you sure you wanna go to this school?” Miri asks next to you. “I mean, you don’t have to come to Aoba Johsei with me, we’ve been friends for long enough, but you got a ride to Shiratorizawa.”
“No, I want this one,” you say, your voice firm.
Miri sighs. “Well, at least the Art Club there isn’t bad.”
-
Barely one week into the school year you get the chance to deliver some papers to the Third Year Classes.
Well, the task had been meant for the “strong boys” in your Class, but you’re too stubborn to take the hint.
Now you’re sweating under the weight of too many folders to count and your hair is sticking to your face in a way you hope is looking cutely disheveled instead of ready-to-murder-you.
“Ah, thank you. That looks pretty heavy, didn’t Takeda-Sensei send someone with you?” The teacher asks. You ignore her words and let your eyes run through the Classroom. There, a little bit further back, sits Asahi.
When your eyes meet his there’s instant recognition. You’d be proud about it, proud that he remembers you even two years later if he didn’t turn away right after. Your heart plummets all the way to your feet, but you need to keep up the facade as well as the weight of folders in your arms.
“Azumane,” his teacher orders. “You’re tall and strong. Help this student out, will you?”
He blushes furiously, but he gets up nonetheless and walks out stiffly.
You pull your sweater over your hands, one by one, so that he won’t have to fear touching you before you offer the folders for him to take.
“I…” He starts, but he doesn’t finish his sentence.
-
It happens. There are Soulmates who don’t fall in love.
You never thought you’d be one of them.
If only you’d have been born without a stubborn head as well.
It would make everyone’s lives easier.
-
“Can I walk you home?” You ask, stepping out of the little shed that holds the bicycles.
Asahi flinches away like you’re the one towering over other people.
“What? How? I..” He stammers.
You shrug and pull the straps of your backpack a little tighter to hide your shaking hands.
“Can I?” You ask again.
He stares, wordlessly.
“You don’t have to agree, I can just follow you home on my own, two steps behind you so you don’t see me sneaking.”
That brings something like a smile to his face but he turns away to hide it the moment it flickers over his lips.
But he starts walking and you rush to catch up to him, taking two steps everytime he takes one.
“You know,” you say, a little breathlessly when you need to tackle an incline, “As much as Hinata’s going on my nerves, I think he’s good for the team.”
Asahi stops again. “You know Hinata?”
“Uh, yeah. Everyone knows Hinata. Also, I’m a First Year.”
“Right.”
He walks two steps before stopping again.
“You know about the team?”
“Yeah?” You huff, trying to hide the fact that you’re already out of breath. “The only reason I’m not a manager is because I’m way better at art than I ever was at managing.”
“Why don’t you play?”
You point at yourself, still unable to take a proper breath after less than five minutes of jogging next to him. He doesn’t seem to understand.
“I’ve got the Athletic Genes of a Muffin,” you translate when you can breathe a little better. On the other side of the hill, the sun sets the sky on fire. “But I think it’s all the same. It doesn’t matter if you paint or play Volleyball, really. Humans have no wings, so they search for other ways to fly.”
When you look back at him, there’s something in his eyes you haven’t seen before. It makes you nervous and you swallow thickly, try to regain the composure you’ve had before.
“Do you… do you believe in Soulmates?” You ask, your mind running on empty.
“Sure.” His voice sounds weirdly detached. His face is tinted golden from the sunset.
“Is this why you don’t want to be touched?” It’s a guess, really. He could still be a germaphobe. But he flinches like you’ve caught him.
“Maybe.”
“Why?”
“It’s a great burden,” he admits, quietly, staring at the sun. “What if they touch you and then you’ve got a mark but they don’t like you like that? You’d always be tied to them, whether they wanted that or not. I’d rather not put that on anyone.”
“It’s a bit late for that.” The words slip out your mouth too fast for you to catch them. You’d wanted to say something else, to put it differently. But he understands nonetheless, his head snapping over.
You pull your hair back to reveal the Glass Heart below your ear.
Whatever you thought would happen, doesn’t.
Asahi takes a step back instead of forward. You can see the doubt cloud his mind.
“Please.” You step forward, lunge for his arm like you’ve done all those years before on the playground.
This time, your hand closes around his wrist. It tickles.
But Asahi is taller, stronger, faster than you. When the turns to run, you’ve got no chance to follow.
-
The boy is about as tall as Hinata, dark hair with one bleached strand that makes it look like he’s being hit by lightning.
You remember hearing Yamaguchi talk about him, but his name is lost on you.
“Can I help you?” You ask rather rudely. You haven’t slept well ever since that evening. It’s been a week and it’s starting to catch up to you.
You wonder if you’ve left a mark on Asahi. Maybe you’d read it all wrong. Maybe you’d run after the wrong guy all these years.
“Are you in the Art Club?” He asks.
“Yeah? Why?”
“You’re really pretty.”
“Thanks?”
He grins, gives you a thumbs up and leaves. Whatever that was, you don’t have the energy to deal with it right now.
It takes two more times of him showing up until you learn his name.
Nishinoya-senpai is weirdly adamant about getting to know you. He’s also hilariously bad at it, spending most of his time telling you about how great he did at training today, how he almost couldn’t save a ball Asahi had spiked, or how their manager is the prettiest being in the whole wide world.
“Why are you here?” You ask when he catches you after school. You’re in the middle of washing your brushes and you’d like it very much if your heart just gave in. But it has been two weeks and you still cannot stop thinking about Asahi. Even though you haven’t seen him since that evening. Has he stopped going to school?
“I’m a friend of Asahi.” He tells you.
“Aha.”
“He talks about you a lot.”
“Sure he does.” The sarcasm in your voice would be enough for two more people.
“No, really, he does. I think you’re Soulmates. But you know, we didn’t win against Dateko last year and… well, I think he needs to prove to himself that he’s worthy- Are you okay?”
You can taste the salt of your own tears. You nod, hoping he will leave you alone. He doesn’t.
“What does it matter?” You ask. Not necessarily Nishinoya, but if he’s not willing to leave you alone, he’s going to have to deal with it. “What does it matter if he wins or loses? Isn’t he worthy no matter what?” You try to dry your nose on your sleeve but the tears just won’t stop.
There’s a more pressing question to it all, a question you hadn’t dared voice before but it won’t leave your mind so why not give it the room it craves?
“Am I even worthy?”
When your tears finally dry, Nishinoya is gone.
Well, you’ve always known that not all boys are created equal. Some just cannot deal with tears.
-
“Can I walk you home?” Asahi asks, stepping out of the little shed that holds the bicycles.
You flinch. You thought you’d be the last one to leave.
“You don’t have to agree,” he stutters. “I-I can just follow you home on my own, t-two steps behind you…”
“Why?” You ask, voice a little hoarse from crying.
“Nishinoya told me… About what you said.”
“So?”
Asahi stretches out his arm. His shirt is pulled back.
On his wrist is something you haven’t seen before. Two black wings spread out on either side, like a bird taking flight.
“I’m sorry I didn’t realize sooner,” he tells you. “If you want, you can take my hand.”
You move to grab it, half expecting him to pull away again. But his hand is warm, big enough to swallow yours and he squeezes back even as he blushes furiously.
“What about Dateko?” You ask, not willing to let go. “What about being worthy?”
“I tend to get lost in my own head,” he confesses. “I doubt that will ever change. But, I- I want you to know that I never doubted that you were worthy. I knew ever since we met for the first time, well, I hoped, but I… I didn’t want to-”
“Put a burden on me, I know.” You nod and squeeze his hand at the same time. “You’re going to have to get used to it, you know? I’ve got pretty strong shoulders.”
You can’t see the sunset from where you’re standing. But the way Asahi smiles makes you think you don’t need to anyway. He’ll always be golden anyway.
-
“Careful, door opening.” Asahi announces, one arm on your back as he guides you into the coffee shop.
Your eyes are glued to your phone screen, but you trust your fiancé that he will keep you safe on your early morning hunt for breakfast.
He orders for the two of you, squinting down over your shoulder every once in a while to check in on your live feed.
Your newest art project hasn’t been online for long and the comments are flowing in almost too fast for you to read.
It’s only when Asahi awkwardly clears his throat behind you that you look up. You spot it right away.
“Excuse me?”
The Barista looks up right away, flinching slightly when she locks eyes with you.
“He asked for oat milk. That’s soy.”
“Sorry, I mixed that up.”
“No worries, just making sure.” You smile as Asahi deflates behind you, leaning all his weight onto your shoulders.
“Thank you,” he mumbles into your ear. “I wouldn’t have been able to say anything.”
“I know.” Your right hand finds his, squeezes tight. “That’s why we’ve got each other.”

—JUST THE TWO OF US ; KUROO TETSUROU
-1.5k words, narration heavy, mainly post timeskip present day setting with reminscence of pre timeskip, mentions of marriage, mentions of moving in, domestic ig (?), kuroo is called dickhead twice, just fluff nothing but fluff and comfort, kuroo turns 29.
a/n: it is kuroo's birthday so you can count on me to deliver a kuroo fic :D pls don't ask why this is so domestic, that's all I wanna be with the guy I love him sm. REBLOGS AND INTERACTIONS ARE APPRECIATED!!
kuroo needs just one more gift from you on his birthday, a gift—your answer—that will change his world, for better or for worse.
Kuroo was grateful for a lot of things in life. He was grateful for his job that sustained his life, he was grateful for all his friends who he spent all his years with and who stood by his side no matter what. He was incredibly grateful for volleyball for training him to be a good leader, honing his teamwork skills, making him more social and interactive and most of all, he was grateful to the sport for leading him to you.
Kuroo remembers all those years ago when you both were but two high schoolers. He remembers how you applied for the position of manager in your first year just so that you could be in a club. He was the one who taught you all there was to learn about the sport and you taught him how to deal with Lev when he was being annoying, amongst many other things. He noticed first hand, the change in your eyes as you slowly grew to love the sport. He remembers the days you tended to all of the Nekoma team members, putting them in their place when they needed to be. He remembers you gently squeezing his shoulder just before he gave his final motivational speech in the nationals prior to his match with karasuno. He remembers how after the match he cried with his head on your shoulder and you told him how proud you were of him, of where he was and what he achieved. He remembers the look of gratitude in your eyes as you told him how proud you were of him for making the trash can battle a reality and he remembers that that's the exact moment he realised that he's fallen in love with you.
Then came graduation filled with tears of melancholia, smiles of pride and joy, throwing of caps high and hugging all the people who helped you get through these three years. Classmates taking pictures to store each other in their memories. Juniors crying because who would now give them the motivation they needed? That's when Kuroo asked you out. He slowly pulled you aside as he led you by your hand to the volleyball gym where the both of you spent the last three years strategising against other teams, planning training camps and what not. For the three years you had known him, that was the first time he seemed to be out of his wits. He stumbled and fumbled and rubbed his eyes and sighed before he finally said in one breath, "I like you. It took me some time to realise, but now I do and I like you and I really do hope you like me back-"
Your soft chuckle interrupted his train of thoughts. You could swear he had never been this confused in his whole life. Then you started laughing and he thought that's it. He thought he was about to face rejection and his heart started breaking, piece by piece.
"It took you so long, you absolute dickhead," was all you said when you finally calmed down and Kuroo stood there, more confused if that was even possible.
"I like you too. It's a shame we're not in the same college but I believe in us. We'll make it work, we always do. Right?" You smiled and it was gentle, filled with deep affection and warmth. So contagious was your smile that his lips stretched into one until he too, was grinning.
He took your face in his hands and touched his forehead with yours, closing his eyes as he let your scent fill him in. He felt your hands close on top of his and he confirmed, "we'll make it work."
Fast forward to some eleven years later. Fast forward to now, in the present where he's there with you by his side. You've become a constant in his life now. You were always there, cheering him up and vice versa. Through aggravating college professors to annoying bosses and coworkers who got on his nerves, you calmed him down. You moved in with him some years into dating. Kuroo was so happy when you accepted the apartment key he got you as a birthday gift with a smile, his usual nerves shaking off the moment you kissed him.
That's not to say your relationship was always smooth sailing, no, it definitely wasn't. You had your fair share of fights with one of you sleeping on the sofa or even leaving the apartment because sometimes a break was all you needed. However, you both always found your way back to each other, back in each other's arms with muttered apologies and silent tears. Whenever you had a fight, he felt his world would tear open. It scared him. But you always came back and he was always grateful and he knew he'd never lose you. He couldn't afford to. You knew the same. To lose him was like losing an integral part of yourself. To lose him would mean to drown yourself in the great blue not knowing how to come up to the surface.
Fighting these hardships, always being there for each other no matter what, letting your love for each other reign victorious over every hurdle is what brought you here today. Today, his 29th birthday. A quaint night where it was only the two of you, your shared giggles and the faint glow of the refrigerator light in the darkness of your apartment as the two of you tried to dance. A tune played in the background, just the two of us by Grover Washington Jr and Bill Withers. Both of you were horrible dancers, stepping on each other's feet. The half eaten cake on the table was long forgotten, empty Chinese takeout containers and chopsticks laid bare. None of that mattered to Kuroo, all that mattered was how in love he was and truly, he must have done something amazing in his past life to have been here with you. You'd given him his gift an hour back when the clock struck twelve to be exact. However, Kuroo was allowed to be a selfish man today. He wanted another gift from you, an important gift that would very much make or break him.
Suddenly the weight of the little velvet box inside his sweatpant pockets felt immense. There is a certain time, a right time for everything, he felt proposing now would be perfect.
So you saw him suddenly breaking away from you as he slowly got down on a knee. Confusion. That was the first reaction that took over your face followed by realisation. Then your slow gasp as your shaky hands went to cover your mouth when he took out the velvet box and opened it.
The ring was absolutely beautiful. A splendid diamond with intrinsic designs.
"I don't think there is a day that goes by where I don't thank my fate for leading me to you. I am a lucky man because I can call you mine," he started. There was a tiny crack in his voice which he tried to hide. You were at a loss for words.
"Ever since that day, eleven years ago now, when you said yes to dating me, I have been so grateful. Grateful for so many things, especially for you. I love you y/n, so very much, I can't put it into words. I was never as good with words as you. However, I do want to say that I want to be a little selfish today. You'll let me be a little selfish right? I want another gift from you. I want you to say yes to my next question ok? Will you do me the honour of marrying me?" By the time he finished his speech, tears of happiness strained your cheeks and you were on your knees, hugging him. Hugging him tight.
"It took you so long you absolute dickhead! Yes! Fuck....yes!" You whispered in his ear between sniffles and you felt his body relax in your hold, the muscles loosening as his arms wrapped around your waist. He sighed in relief as he buried his face in your neck.
You remained like that for a while, just silently crying tears of ecstasy in each other's arms. It felt like a long while before he left a slow kiss on your temple and separated from you to slide the ring on your finger. It looked absolutely gorgeous.
Kuroo was lost in his own thoughts, admiring the ring on your finger with a gentle smile until he felt your free hand on his cheek.
He looked up at you, grabbing your neck in a gentle hold and kissing your forehead before touching it to his own.
"We made it work Tetsu, we made us work," you closed your eyes, basking in the warmth that was Kuroo Tetsurou. Basking in the comfort that your now fiancé brought with him.
"Of Course we did," you felt his lips against yours. "We always do."

Hiii!!! I haven’t really requested anything before so I hope I’m doing this right, but could I please request the training camp with manger reader, character of your choice bc I really couldn’t decide lmao😭😭😭
I really wasn’t sure what to do for this, so I just chose Bokuto because… well, because. XD
Title: Enamor
Pairings: Bokuto Koutarou x Reader
WARNINGS: Yandere themes, manager! reader
Summary: Bokuto develops a crush on the Shinzen High manager.
enamor
/verb/
be filled with a feeling of love for
Bokuto’s attention was easily won, but just as easily lost.
His attention was fleeting, bouncing from one person to another like a volleyball. Until it stopped.
On you.
Bokuto had already met Kyoko, but he had no real interest in her. She looked beautiful, sure, but she didn’t have much in the way of personality to hold his attention. You, on the other hand, were beautiful and energetic.
You were the manager of the Shinzen High Volleyball Club. You stood on the sidelines of every match and cheered your heart out for the team. Where other managers clapped or just watched silently, you jumped up and down and hollered out praise.
When each match was finished, you would fling yourself onto the group of boys- high fives if they won, hugs if they lost. Shinzen High wasn’t exactly the best team there (though they were no Karasuno), so there were quite a few losses and quite a few hugs.
Bokuto pouted every time you gave a round of hugs to them, eyes narrowing whenever you lingered a little too long. He found himself wishing he could be on the Shinzen High team, just to get a hug or high five from you.
Akaashi noticed something was wrong when Bokuto went into “emo mode” before the next match even started. His eyes surveyed the gym, surprised to notice where Bokuto’s attention was.
The broccoli-headed guy had an arm around your waist as the team talked. You didn’t seem bothered by it, merely talking casually as though it weren’t there.
“Bokuto,” Akaashi warned, “We have to start the next match.”
“Just play without me, Akaashi,” Bokuto said dramatically, “I have a broken heart, I can’t play.”
Akaashi closed his eyes and tried to think what would cheer him up, “But, Bokuto, don’t you want to impress her with your volleyball skills?” Bokuto perked up, but only a little.
The next few matches were torture for Fukorodani. They were good at playing without Bokuto, but they needed him to get over his emo mode at least at some point in the match. Instead, he spent the entire time moping around- not trying to spike or receive and serving half-heartedly.
The coach was furious and, in the next match, he didn’t even put Bokuto in. “Deal with it or don’t play,” he had said.
Bokuto found himself walking up to you in a daze. You turned to him and gave him a polite smile, “Yes? Can I help you?”
“What’s your name?” Bokuto asked.
“Oh, it’s (Y/n),” you said, looking a little confused, “And you’re Bokuto, right?”
Bokuto’s emo mode disappeared instantly, “That’s me!” He puffed his chest out in pride.
“Why aren’t you playing?” you asked, confusedly looking over at his team.
“I wanted to talk to you!” Bokuto said, “I love you!”
You stared blankly at him, “You just learned my name, how do you love me? Or is that, like, an over exaggeration?”
Bokuto gave you a look like a kicked puppy. Didn’t you understand that he had fallen in love at first sight? That he was enamored with your very being?
Apparently you didn’t understand, because you turned back to your team, cheering as they made a point. You turned back, looking surprised that Bokuto was still there.
That was okay, he’d find a way to show you how much he loved you before training camp was over. Whether it was through bubbly praise or confronting you in the locker room, alone… he would have you.
He’d never been this enamored with anyone else before.
