I've gone back and forth with SC being queerbaiting and always like your perspective as a balance from the rest of the fandom. But what's your take after that last ep? Bc i couldn't believe what I was seeing at times. Thanks
Thank you friend! I love that my dash is so full of happiness and lovely art and funny shitposts. :) S5 was such a slog and it’s great to see the community feeling inspired again!
I haven’t rewatched the episode so I’m not sure if this will change. There were parts of the episode I really liked and others that didn’t work so well?
They have this penchant for leaving storyline resolutions to the very last minute and while it can work for big bad plots (YMMV), I think it gives the emotional and relationship stories short shrift.
Earlier the same day Alex was pointing a gun at Lena, and now Lena is giving her hugs and dispensing relationship advice ... nothing in between but a look or two. Okay. I guess we’ll forget about the cannon and using Kara as a Trojan horse.
Kara spent all of 5b treating Lena like a villain and was so angry, also earlier that day. They had a huge blowup over Myriad that lasted weeks but now Kara is like “you’re the only person in the galaxy I know would do right by it” and “I know what’s in your heart.” Help, I have whiplash. ;)
Is it the adrenaline talking? The need to get Lena to do something because the fate of the world is at stake? One thing I couldn’t quite figure out about Alex, for example, is how much she genuinely likes Lena - and how many of her compliments are simply a motivational tactic to get Lena to produce something she needs.
Personally I could have done without the hyperbolic declarations. It’s okay to rebuild slowly ... we don’t need to go from subzero to 300 degrees immediately. I think it would feel more earned, if that makes sense.
It’s what I liked so much about Brainy’s scenes with both Nia and Lena: the honesty of them and the emotional pacing feeling just right. No big statements, just agreement to try again and do better.
It’s also why I preferred the Lena Luthor Protocol and the yellow sun drone ... Lena didn’t even need to be in the frame, or say anything, to convey so much. So great, and packed the strongest emotional punch.
(With Lena, I think she loves Kara but she’s also still working through her feelings of remorse and guilt over the role she played in enabling Lex.)
TL;DR I appreciated the shippy moments and it’s fun to view them as standalone segments. I didn’t think they worked quite as well in context.

My Review of The Rising of the Shield Hero
Tumblr media
VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED!
Yeah, this warning because apparently I curse more than normal here. That should give you a fun indicator of what you’re in for.
Is this a joke? Is Medea really going to watch a recent Isekai anime?
No joke. I am. Yeah, since just about every Isekai I’ve ever watched was made before the year 2012, I thought it was time. And in case you’re not hip to the lingo, Isekai is where a random person is transported to a strange world (different from their’s) and go on an adventure. Things like Escaflowne, InuYasha, Fushigi Yugi, Kyou Kara Maou, and to a far-lesser extent, Sword Art Online! But because I haven’t watched anything made past 2012, and haven’t watched things like Konosuba, ReZero, or Overlord, my knowledge is shit and I should be ashamed.
So I’m going to start with one of 2019’s best animes, The Rising of the Shield Hero.
Naofumi Iwatani was checking out light novels when he was transported into another world. But unlike many other Isekais with this similar setup, Naofumi isn’t alone.
Tumblr media
He and three other boys (from alternate timelines of Japan) are transported as well to the kingdom of Melromarc. These four boys are going to be the saviors of the kingdom as the “Four Cardinal Heroes” where they must combat against these entities known as “waves”. However, Naofumi is seen as the weakling from the very beginning due to being the holder of the shield (and is now known as the “Shield Hero”). But it goes even further than that! The king of Melromarc immediately shows his disdain for the shield hero due to the previous shield hero doing something to him. I don’t know what, just fuck the king. The kingdom, the other heroes, and the people of the kingdom did just about everything to Naofumi to make him feel like trash. If he was on fire, they wouldn’t even spit on him to put him out!
Being the lowest-level weapon user, no one will join his team and even if they did…they would swindle him, set him up for failure, and spread the worst lie you could ever lie about. But Naofumi can’t return home due to all four weapon users must be there until they defeat the waves. So Naofumi is stuck in a new world where literally everyone hates him or fears him.
Tumblr media
That is until he buys a slave (named Raphtalia) and their EXP points can grow. Along the way, he obtains an egg that hatches into a filolial (later named Filo) who has the ability of turning into a human female. And every now and then, the second princess of Melromarc (named Melty) will come along with Naofumi. Trust me, she’s the nice one in that family.
Let’s watch the struggles and rising of the Shield Hero!
BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: So this is licensed by Crunchyroll (but I think FUNimation dipped it’s cookie in this milk). I know these two companies divorced some time ago, but FUNimation sees no problem piggy-backing off of Crunchyroll when they get a hit. And yes, this got an English dub and because of that, YES I watched the whole thing dubbed! Done by the good folks in L.A.! I gotta say this was a well-done dub. Well, they did one thing right by hiring Erica Mendez to play Raphtalia. Just about everything Mendez plays is friggin’ gold! Here’s what you might recognize these folks from.
JAPANESE CAST: *Naofumi is played by Kaito Ishikawa (known for Kiawe on Pokemon SM, Genos on One Punch Man, Mitsuo on Golden Time, Urui on Tokyo Ghoul :re, Sakakibara on Assassination Classroom, and Rinne on Kyokai no Rinne)
*Raphtalia is played by Asami Seto (known for Officer Jenny on Pokemon SM, Mado on Tokyo Ghoul, Young Yukiatsu on Anohana, and Shizu Delta on Overlord)
*Filo is played by Rina Hidaka (known for Last Order on Index/Railgun, Ririchiyo on Inu x Boku SS, Kohane on xxxHOLiC, Silica on SAO, Nemesis on To Love Ru: Darkness, and Urara on Food Wars)
*Melty is played by Maaya Uchida (known for Norman on The Promised Neverland, Rikka on Chunibyo, Rui on Domestic Girlfriend, Frenda on Railgun, Yoshino on Food Wars, Irina on High School DxD, and Yusa on Charlotte)
ENGLISH CAST: *Naofumi is played by Billy Kametz (known for Jousuke/JoJo on Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Part IV, Osomatsu on Mr. Osomatsu, Metal Lee on Boruto, and Galo on Promare)
*Raphtalia is played by Erica Mendez (known for Ryuko on Kill la Kill, Haruka/Uranus on Sailor Moon redub, Emma on The Promised Neverland, Nico on Love Live, Yuuki on SAO II, and Tsubaki on Your Lie in April)
*Filo is played by Brianna Knickerbocker (known for Rem on Re:Zero, Akane on Durarara x2, Arisa on Love Live, Anna on The Promised Neverland, Iori on Charlotte, and Erica on Berserk 2016)
*Melty is played by Jackie Lastra (known for Conny on The Promised Neverland and Selka on SAO: Alicization)
FAVORITE CHARACTER: I know I’m gonna have fun with the next category, but I think I spent most of this series hating on several people where I forgot to pick a character I liked.
Tumblr media
Well folks, I gotta say that I loved Raphtalia. And after her, Filo! Then Elhart, Queen Melromarc, Melty, and Fitoria! With the exception of Elhart, it’s all women! That’s rare! Don’t worry, there’s one woman that has received a restraining order from this category. On with the worst!
VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED!
Y’all know what’s coming!
DISLIKED CHARACTER: Prior to watching this series, I have gotten several warnings about one particular character! Princess Malty or Myne, whatever people call her. This woman is despised throughout the anime community and even going so far as to say she’s on “horrible character” status left only to infamous characters like Griffith, Makoto Itou, and Shou Tucker. And I’m like, “WOW, what did she do, kill a pope?” I mean seriously, how bad could she possibly…?!
*one episode later*
Tumblr media
FUCK THIS BITCH: Oh this bitch can burn at the stake for all I care! Yes, everyone else who treated Naofumi like shit can go jump off a bridge. Because I hold no sympathy for towns-idiots that treat a hero with no respect (as I’ve said before with One Punch Man and Dragon Ball Z)! But Myne just took that zero respect and pushed it to a crispy 425 degrees of fuck-roast! In the first episode, she seemed genuine with pitying Naofumi because no one would join his team. That didn’t even last a whole day. Myne ends up faking a rape by lying to the kingdom that Naofumi sexually assaulted her.
Faking a RAPE!
Faking a FUCKING RAPE!
Bitch, this is 2019 (I KNOW IT AIN’T THAT IN THIS KINGDOM, I’M JUST FUCKING PISSED). Faking a rape is a big, fat, NO-NO!
After he spends the little money he had on her to buy equipment, she double-crosses him by setting him up for immediate trouble and switches to the Spear-Hero side. Well fuck you too, you skank! Have fun with your dickhead Spear Hero. And may that be the last time I ever see you!
*several episodes later*
WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?! You cheating, lying, slut! Just when you think she can’t possibly get any worse, this bitch takes worse and shoves it off a fucking cliff. As if faking an assault wasn’t bad enough, screwing townspeople for your own gain is another story. She would take over a whole town and give no fucks if it’s destroyed by her or her fuck-face spear-hero. Add to that fuck-cake, every time you run into Naofumi, you find some way to screw him over time and time again. This bitch tampered with a fight between the shield and spear hero so that Naofumi could fail and they could steal his only team member away from him! You have your father, the church, your dickhead boy-toy of yours, and the royals wrapped around your little finger. Myne just continues to be worse than tainted peanut butter. I wish she would catch the worst STD imaginable and die a painful death!
*several more episodes later*
AAAAAAAH gabba da da ffuuuu worble BITCH FACE gararba fruznuss SET FIRE plskay adkkin aidnnlwjsnda UP DONALD TRUMP’S ASS galidamdh amoiejwm wwwaasosoh A POPCICLE! FUCK! AAkajrriaja DIDIA LEJHE KLHAEHAE FYUEEajejioqih3hv SSLLSHE3V ADKDKDDHEI333!!!!
Tumblr media
Oh, you do not want a translation from my…whatever the fuck I just wrote. Just know that Princess Malty or Myne is worse than hemroids up the ass. I can’t believe this woman is still around, breathing and shit. Also, I’m tempted in re-writing my Top 10 Least Favorite Anime Character list because Myne would definitely be at #4 after Griffith from Berserk.
Okay…Okay…I think I’m calm now.
WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE CUT THIS FUCKING CUNT’S HEAD OFF LIKE A CHICKEN IN CHINA TOWN?!
Now I’m calm! Now then…
ANYONE ELSE WHO NEEDS TO DIE IN THIS SERIES?: So obviously I hate Bitch and Trash (Myne and the King). And I have the same kind of respect for the townspeople who treat Naofumi like shit. I ain’t got time to be dealing with townsidiots again. But if there was anyone else that should get a mention of how much I want for them to be set on fire and I’ll just sit there drinking my ginger ale, it would be Motoyasu.
Tumblr media
Now by no means do I hate him more than Miss Bitch over here. But I hate him on the same level as Shinji from the Fate series (which is now teetering on my top 10). I question why he’s still alive and why no one has introduced his face to a jagged boulder. Unlike the other heroes Ren and Itsuki, this guy has got a vendetta against Naofumi from the get-go. And this was like before the sexual alligations came about. After that incident, this fuckturd tries at every turn to make Naofumi’s life worse than it already is by stealing away his crew and challenging him every chance he gets. And when he’s not doing that, he’s screwing over the townspeople and doing very little to be a “hero” (which is his freakin’ title). Then again, Ren and Itsuki aren’t great heroes either, it’s just I really need to lay into Spear-Dick for the shit he’s done.
SHIPPING: Hmm…aaaaahhhh….eeeeee…urrrrggggh…
Tumblr media
Naofumi x Raphtalia: I know Naofumi doesn’t see Raphtalia as a romantic partner and more as a partner on his team, but Raphtalia doesn’t see it that way. She is 100% loyal to Master Naofumi. Who could blame her? Naofumi saved her from a lifetime of enslavement and cured her from an illness she’s had for years. She’s grateful and every other hero is crap in her eyes! She’s worshipped the shield hero since she was younger when she would hear stories about the shield hero. So imagine her worry every time Naofumi talks about going back to his home world, she gets horribly upset. Me being very skeptical here, I can’t really imagine this going any further than team partners. I can’t see at the end of the day Naofumi staying in Melromarc forever or Raphtalia somehow returning to Naofumi’s world when all of this ends. So for now, I’m just going to see where this takes us.
Tumblr media
FUNNIEST MOMENT: Whenever Motoyasu gets conked in his frank-and-two-beans by Filo! If anyone deserves to be whammed in the nuts, it’s Motoyasu.
Tumblr media
SADDEST MOMENT: I don’t usually mention sad moments in anime anymore, but one moment touched me and that was episode 15 where we learned a little more about Raphtalia’s past. Raphtalia, even after losing her parents in a wave attack, she tries her best to keep a smile on her face. But shortly after that, she and many other demi-humans were taken away from their homes and sold off to a nobleman. This is when we see some pretty inhumane moments where Raphtalia and many of her friends are whipped for the fun of it, starved to death, and sold off to traders.
In this episode, we learn about a few of Raphtalia’s friends (Keel and Rifana) from her younger days. The day Raphtalia got sold off, it looked like Rifana was teetering towards death. When the Shield Hero’s party came to rescue the surviving demi-humans (like Keel), Raphtalia went to see if Rifana could possibly be alive. And if the disturbing picture of Rifana’s skeleton doesn’t churn your stomach, I really don’t know what will. God damn, that was just messed up!
Tumblr media
I CANNOT TELL A LIE, THIS ANIME HURT: I know I have sadistic tendencies and take joy in the misery of others. But I seriously cannot enjoy any second of the humiliation and degredation given to Naofumi. And it was because of the abuse put on the Shield Hero that made me feel sick to my stomach just watching all this happen to this guy. I thought it would last for a few episodes at the most, but it carried on a lot further than I imagined. Almost to the very end! And every episode you put on, you just wish for some kind of karma to kick in or for one more person to be nice to Naofumi or something, anything to happen!
But because the king has a vendetta against the previous Shield Hero, Naofumi has had to pay a heavy toll by having every horrible crime or offense thrown at him including rape, murder, attempted murder, cheating, witchcraft, and treason. AND HE COMMITTED NONE OF THESE OFFENSES! So you spend just about 20 episodes watching this poor boy having to go through this hell. I can’t even imagine having to go through this kind of torment and some of these moments make me ill in my stomach and quite pissed off. So like I said, this anime hurts to watch.
ENDING: As it turns out, the kingdom is corrupt under the rule of the king and his daughter, Princess Cunt (yeah, BIG shocker there). How corrupt? Well, they were in cahoots with the church that had their own religion praising only 3 of the Heroes (guess which one they don’t praise)! That was until the pope decided that everything must be wiped away because they are “unclean”. That includes the monarchy, the heroes, and their crew! Thankfully, they were able to put an end to this cult, with a little help from the true leader of Melromarc, Queen Mirelia of Melromarc. She finally shows herself and her powers on the battlefield. And now ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for the moment everyone and their mama have been waiting for.
Tumblr media
JUSTICE IS SERVED: With the queen’s return, come some harsh sentences to her own family. Her husband, the king and her daughter, Princess Malty! I gotta tell you, seeing these two in chains makes my heart so happy. The king was guilty of summoning the four heroes prematurely and causing a lot of harm to the kingdom of Melromarc with the church. Then the queen puts a seal on Myne’s chest, giving her unimaginable pain whenever she lied. That still didn’t stop the bitch from lying! In one swoop, it’s proven that Naofumi was innocent the whole time and that the king and princess were worse than period cramps. And for their crimes, THEY ARE SENTENCED TO DEATH BY GUILLOTINE!
FUCK YEAH! BRING IT ON!
Tumblr media
CUT THEIR FUCKING HEADS OFF!
Yeah…unfortunately for my blood-lust self, that didn’t happen. Instead, Naofumi stopped the queen seconds before blood was to splatter. Claiming that the princess and king should be stripped from their titles and must go through life with new names! The king will be named “Trash” and Malty/Myne will be named “Bitch” (or “Whore” when she’s traveling). Okay, I guess it’s all good. With that, the church of the three heroes is abolished and handled a lot better than I thought.
Tumblr media
But seriously Queenie, was it really, REALLY a good idea to keep your daughter alive? I know she’s your own daughter and you felt severe hesitation (in the anime) before calling for her execution. But for fuck’s sake, literally a day after she’s spared from the guillotine, she’s poisoning food meant for her sister Melty, Naofumi, and his friends!
IN THIS AFTERMATH: Now has Naofumi finally obtained acceptance throughout the kingdom? Yes and no! Yes, it’s true that the people of the land respected Naofumi after all he’s done. It’s just that some of the other heroes and castle men who still treat Naofumi with such disrespect. The queen wishes for all four heroes to be treated equally and to get along so that maybe they can defeat the waves without too much trouble. Hell, the queen of the filolials also said the same thing! I think Ren and Itsuki have kinda been on board with this for a while (even if they are kinda dickish about it). It’s just that Motoyasu’s still a condescending dick to Naofumi! Sigh!
FINAL WAVE ATTACK: Final one for now! On their way to another land, Naofumi ends up getting chummy with two travelers (L’Arc and Therese).
Tumblr media
We meet these fuckers three episodes before the finale.
They’re bad guys, aren’t they?!
Something like that! Yeah, the next wave attack was coming up real quick. And the heroes have to go up against Glass again (the woman who caused a lot of trouble in the midway point of the series). But it turns out L’Arc and Therese are in cahoots with Glass. But it gets really…complicated here!
Glass and L’Arc are both fan and scythe heroes from another world. And they’re destroying the waves on this side along with destroying the people of this world to prevent catastrophy in their world. Yeah, finale time guys! How many parallel worlds and heroes are there?
READ THE LIGHT NOVEL!
Fuck me! Well, Naofumi and the other hammy heroes were able to stop the wave attack once more. And we even get to watch Queen Melromarc in action again! In this aftermath, Naofumi gets a new member on his team. Yes, it’s another female, but at least this one is older than all the other girls that hang with him (making this a little less ewwwie). Rishia was abandoned by Itsuki’s team for…reasons. So she’s going to join Naofumi after she helped in the last wave attack. And we get some last-moment hopeful scenes as we see things that give me hope for people in this series. Raphtalia’s old friends and homeland is getting back into the swing of things and Naofumi will take control over the land. And we wait for this promoted second and third season Crunchyroll swears by. Seriously guys, when are we getting more Shield Hero?
DON’T KNOW! READ THE LIGHT NOVEL AND STOP ASKING STUPID QUESTIONS!
If you can’t already tell, I liked this series! Yes it was unbelievably painful to watch certain things where all of these people gang up on Naofumi and screw him eight ways from Sunday, but I guess good stories have a little struggle. Except here, it’s a lot of struggling! It was an interesting tale and is giving me a little hope for the Isekai genre as a whole. Will I get into all the other recent ones so I can one day watch Isekai Quartet? Don’t get too cocky! I’ll stick to this and maybe head on over to Konosuba later on.
Rising of the Shield Hero was definitely a tale and I highly recommend it. It’s just that if you’re prone to anger when it comes to absolute injustice, half of this series might be a little unbearable to handle. But there were several great moments (particularly from Raphtalia) that kept me going with this series.
Tumblr media
Especially episode 4! Best episode of the series! Her undying devotion for Naofumi was definitely one to behold! I can’t wait to learn more about these different kinds of worlds, kingdoms, and heroes in the upcoming stories. In the meantime I will await for these seasons two and three Crunchyroll assures us are coming…They are coming right? You guys weren’t just blowing smoke up our asses in the last CRX convention, right?
READ THE FUCKING LIGHT NOVEL, YOU AUTISTIC TWAT!
I can’t do it! There are too many chapters!
Currently, both FUNimation and Crunchyroll have the entire series subbed and dubbed.
Okay, great stuff! What’s next on my Amazon/Netflix…or Crunchyroll licensed anime!
Tumblr media
Magical Girl Site?
Oh fuck. I heard about that first episode. This is gonna hurt.

LONG post in regards to whats being said about Lena.
Man, every time the CW post something about Supergirl on Instagram or Twitter people really lose their s**t for literally no reason.
People saying that Lena is awful, they wouldn't watch a show with Lena in it, someone went as far to say they would rather die that watch a show with Lena in it??? OK.... Dramatic much? Yet here you are following the Supergirl page and knowing exactly what has been going on in the show because you use it for your arguments. Seriously sort your s**t out!
Also, I may get hate for this and I DO NOT CARE but im totally fine with Lena punching Kara in the face. Personally i think she’s asked for it. You can argue until the end of time that she doesn't deserve the punch for keeping her identity a secret, debatable BUT she absolutely deserves a punch in the face for being an arsehole to Lena and calling her a Luthor and then going to her best friends boyfriend and talking him into betraying her trust! Oh and then letting Lena vent to her about how this meant she would never trust Supergirl again, that was disturbing behavior, played off as an ‘oopsie’ moment. Personally Kara’s Jeckell and Hyde act with Lena has always been a bit disturbing to me, its not always funny. Just like in season 2 when she landed at L Corp with Superman and basically looked her nose down at Lena (re watch it). But a punch in the face is warranted. Punching someone in the face isnt akin to becoming evil!
Also why are people saying ‘I knew she would turn Evil!’ ‘Look what Lena is doing!’ erm... Lena hasnt actually done anything yet. A punch doesn't mean full on evil. Lena said she wants to inflict the same pain on Supergirl that she has caused her, now that’s interesting to me, because Kara hasn't actually inflicted any ‘physical’ pain on Lena and Lena even said she doesn't want to kill Supergirl. Now save for a much deserved punch in the face which looks like it takes place in a virtual world anyway, perhaps Lena is going to go down another route and inflict emotional pain on Kara just like Kara has inflicted it on her. Maybe this is why we saw BTS of Alex and Kara fighting, maybe this world is set up so Kara can experience everyone she loves betraying her in some way? The same way Lena feels she’s been betrayed? Im not saying that’s a healthy way to deal with things but the show would be boring if Lena was like ‘nah its cool’.Plus this is how Lena will see it, something she wouldn't be thinking if Kara had taken the time to explain things to her from the off set. to late now.
Now i know what people will say ‘Kara has suffered so much and doesn't deserve more pain’ yeah... well Kara should have thought about that before inflicting pain on Lena who has also suffered enough pain in her life to. Kara having suffered doesn't mean she has a free pass to treat others poorly, who haven't actually done anything to hurt her or intended to hurt her at all. If Lena had been a nob and out to get her from day one then fair enough, but Lena has saved Kara’s ass/life many times and has never intended to hurt her, but s3 kara (who i wish i could forget) decided being an ass to Lena was OK. Yes Kara thought she was protecting Lena, but that excuse became null and void the moment she started revealing her identity to every Tom, Dick and Nia that she met! Kara is NOT a space puppy! Sure she has her cute adorkable moments but dont mix fan fic with reality. Kara is actually a very serious person who doesnt have all the answers, and doesn't always have a clear view of things. Remember it was Kara who basically told Jonn that there was no more alien hate anymore because SHE didnt receive it, the blonde haired, blue eyed hero of the city who looks human didnt receive hate so therefore it no longer existed. Now this isnt having a go at Kara, its to show that Kara isnt always right and doesn't always have a clear view of things.
Now, people are saying that Kara’s other friends didnt have a bad reaction to Kara admitting she was Supergirl so how dare Lena? OK, you guys are reaching pretty far now and you’re conveniently forgetting what has happened on the show because you’re too busy hating on Lena, so:
1. Winn didnt hate Kara the moment he learned she was Supergirl. OK, well first off, she wasnt really Supergirl yet, just an alien. Winn thought it was cool and wasnt upset she had lied to him? Well Kara keeping her identity from Winn didnt effect Winn in any way at all. There was no Luthor/Super history involved in Winn and Kara’s friendship.
2. James already knew, Clark took that decision away from Kara because he felt she needed a man to keep an eye on her. But this aside, James already knew Superman and was his best friend, he didnt ‘already’ know Kara. He knew who she was before she knew who he was! Again, him knowing her secret had no Luthor/Super implications.
3. Alex already knew and grew up with her. There was no ‘secret’ identity, she came to the Danvers as an alien and anyway Alex was NOT cool with her to begin with.
4. Mon El was also an alien, he wasnt a massive fan of Kara anymore than she was a fan of him. In fact Kara was the ass to Mon El rather than the other way around. It was Kara who referred to him as a ‘Daxamite’ more than once. Now, you could say they did have a history like the Luthor/Super one. Only it was Kryptonian/Daxamite, but the difference is Kara immediately told Mon El who she was, there was no pretending to be an alien from somewhere else or someone entirely different like she did with Lena. Kara knew Mon El was a Daxamite because of the beacon he sent, he didnt deny being one either. No his lie was being the Prince because he knew Kara would NOT have been OK with that. So he got involved with Kara whilst pretending to be something he wasn't. I seem to remember Kara being pretty miffed when she found out he was actually the Prince, only the end of the world was happening and she didnt really get a chance to deal with those feelings because she had to send him away. But later when he came back Kara had had time to process her thoughts on him, but she still told him EXACTLY what she thought of him. Mon El deceived Kara so he could pursue a relationship with her, Kara deceived Lena so she could pursue a friendship with her. Kara and Lena should have a choice in these scenarios because the respective ‘secret identities’ would have made them take pause.
5. Jonn. already knew, nothing to argue here.
6. Nia, Kara told Nia in a moment of solidarity because she to had ‘lost’ her sister, and apparently this was an OK reason to tell the girl you knew for 5 minutes who you are. Do you know who else had ‘lost’ a sibling and Kara has had many a solidarity moment with and who has saved her ass more than once and who she has known for longer than five minutes??? oh yeah LENA!! Anyway.... again, Nia had no reason to be miffed at Kara, she hasnt spent 3 years lying to her or pretending to be someone she wasnt and not fully trusting her. No Luthor/Super family drama or anything.
7. The Legion already knew
8. Cat, Cat was Kara’s mentor and although Kara absolutely lied and deceived Cat, she NEVER treated her crap (save for the red K thing) like Kara did to Lena. Plus once again no Luthor/Super drama. Plus she wasnt Kara's best friend.
Lena is completely different, have a think about what would be going through Lena’s head. ‘Supergirl’ suddenly turns up at her office the moment she arrives in National City in disguise? Supergirl using this secret identity keeps coming back to Lena, using Lena to track down Roulette, to try and get info from her about her mother. Lena mean while keeps saving the lives of the aliens of National City (including Supergirl). Mon El leaves and Kara suddenly cuts Lena from her life until she once again needs her for something? Come season 3 and ‘Supergirl’ suddenly turns on her? All for having a substance she wasn't using to hurt her but to protect her friend Sam? Supergirl calls her a ‘Luthor’ and gets pissed at her for GIVING her the Kryptonite? Supergirl starts telling Lena what to do as though she can? Supergirl then uses Lena’s boyfriend to spy on her? Then suddenly  Kara is back and being her best friend again listening to all her vent about Supergirl? Lena goes out of her way to make sure Argo City survives and Supergirl is still later an ass to her because she decided to work with the substance SHE created because Supergirl doesn't approve? Supergirl is an ass to her when they are with Alex and its Alex who puts her in place, but Kara is still coming back to her as her bestie? Kara Joins her in trying to track down Lex and even lets Lena think that she’s been blown up? Lena then has the pleasure of being told by Lex of all people that Kara has been lying since day one and he even has footage?? Lena’s new ‘family’ all knew except for her, doesn't say much for Kara’s trust in Lena. If she hadnt already dumped James’ ass i hope she would now! She would probably be thinking ‘why did James pursue me? Was he sent told to keep an eye on me? Was Kara just sent by Superman to watch me? Did the gang befriend me for the same reason? Keep the Luthor close? This woman has been betrayed and deceived her whole life, not second guessing any of this would be the bizarre thing.
But anyway, i agree that both Kara and Lena are right to feel the way they do. But i am more on Lena’s side. I get Kara’s reasoning up to a point, to begin with she wanted to protect Lena., but then she should never have become so involved with her if she truly wanted to keep her safe. Her reasons become null and void when she tells people she’s known for 5 minutes who she is without thought to their safety (Nia). She made the decision to be an arsehole to Lena and then use Lena’s relationships against her and called her the only thing she knew would hurt Lena the most. She then kept saying she wanted to tell Lena but allowed others (Mon El, Alex) to keep her from doing so to the point where it was to late. Kara’s reasons started out noble, but they went beyond to far. Especially since Lex and Lillian knew and Kara STILL didnt see a point in telling Lena, Lex got the opportunity to tell Lena because Kara couldn't step up. The moment she knew Lillian knew she should have had Jonn erase her mind or tell Lena herself. Kara doesnt ‘owe’ her identity to anyone, but she should think twice about how much she gets involved with or treats the people close to her that dont know.
Also, it is a betrayal, the writers have said so and even Melissa has agreed she totally understands it. Not telling Lena her secret isnt the betrayal, its everything that came along with it, everything Kara did along the way. (though she could be talking to Eve)
They say the season is a ‘fight for Lena’s soul’ , personally i think being betrayed by Kara is a poor reason for Lena’s soul to be in danger, it doesn't say much for her. But that very statement implies that Lena hasnt gone full Luthor, Otherwise it would be ‘Lena’s soul is lost’.
It will be interesting to see how Lena reacts to the rest of the super friends since back in season 3 she understood secrets that weren't hers to tell and to keep people safe. She knew Alex was DEO but kept it to herself and wasnt arsed abut it and she didnt on Sam to keep her safe. But knowing the writers they’ll forget this part of Lena’s personality and make her miffed at everyone.
Lastly Kara may be the main character but that doesnt mean everything she does is right and she DOESNT have to be your favorite character.
Anyway thats enough. Dont send hate as always will go unanswered and deleted.

The Watchtower
Tumblr media
a/n gosh I dont even know if this is good but like I’ve felt so absent, in this and life and I wanted to get back into this as it keeps me happy.
Lena luthor x reader
It was hard to continuously do this, do this when you knew what the outcome. You knew she was going to kill you but you couldn’t stop. You did everything out of the circumstances in your life you had no choice. From the outside you looked like a normal person. You went to work everyday, then went home to your amazing girlfriend. Yet you did a lot more than what met the eye. You were known of sorts in National City.
You and Lena had been together for 2 years now and you knew everything about her, you wished you could tell her the one thing that you wanted to tell her. You were friends with all of her friends, Alex, Sam, Kara, James, Winn and J’onn.
You at first were confused as to why a seemingly set to his routine man hung around with then. Until you did some research, you figured that you knew more about the group then they knew about each other.
You were at work when one of your co workers ran into your office telling you to come to the TV.
When you got to the TV you saw that someone called “The Watchtower” had threatened Supergirl. You watched thinking that Supergirl could beat anyone who challenged her especially when her friends and family were being threatened. You wondered how Kara would be behaving in the next couple of days.
So you decided to go check on her at work during your lunch break. You wanted to check on her, she may not know that you know who she really is but you wanted to make sure she is okay.
When you got there she seemed hectic, so you walked up to her.
“Hey you busy for lunch?” you asked she seemed shocked to see you here.
“Oh (y/n) I didn’t expect you here but yes let’s get lunch!” she said getting her stuff
You figured that she just wanted to get all if this Watchtower stuff off her mind. As the two of ordered lunch it had all been small talk until you asked
“Do you think the treat is serious? You know the one the Watchtower made on Supergirl?” You noticed that her facial expression fell as soon as you mentioned the threat.
“I think they are serious but there is nothing Supergirl can't handle.” she responded.
“You’re right but The Watchtower has never failed. You’ve seen some of the killings. I doubt they are human.” you said
“Even if they aren't they are no match for Supergirl she has faced.” she said
You had seen the killing’s how brutal they were you knew they weren't human. You were scared for Kara’s sake. If Supergirl got killed then she would to, everyone would have known who she was. Lena would know how her best friend had been lying to her.
As you arrived to Lena’s you knew that you would have to leave soon you had to go to the battle between Supergirl and the Watchtower. You were scared that Supergirl might actually die. You needed to see her one more time. You knew you were going to die in the battle. You needed to hold your girlfriend one more time.
You walked in and saw her working, you laughed she was always working no matter where she was. She didn't notice you come in so you walked in and hugged her from behind. She turned around and pulled you into a kiss.
“I didn’t realize that you were coming over tonight” she said
“Not for long I just wanted to check in on you, I know you and Supergirl are really good friends.” you said
“I know, I’m scared for her but she never loses.” she said looking down.
“You mean she’s never lost.”
“She won’t these Watchtower attacks are dumb and need to be stopped, them calling out Supergirl was the stupidest thing they could have done. If they really wanted to be some huge villain they wouldn't have called her out.” she said getting almost angry.
“Maybe they wanted a Lex Luthor Superman battle you know?” you said
“I guess but I don't want another reminder of Lex’s mistakes, they should have learned from him that you can't mess with that family.”
“I know babe it was huge mistake to even think about challenging her.” you said
The two of you stayed and watched Tv until you told her you had to leave.
When you got back to your own apartment you put on your suit and left to go fight. You didn't want to see Supergirl die.
You arrived to where The Watchtower challenger Supergirl. Next thing you knew you were fighting and the girl you were fighting was doing well. You could see why people couldn't fight them.
As you fought you knew you were going to die, you were getting beat up endlessly. You don't know why you even came you thought this would have been the best decision but as you got punched you regretted everything. You're mask putting so much pressure onto your face you could feel your skull pushing in.
You may have been known in National City but this was taking on to much. You got a few good punches in As your mask got ripped off you got recognized by Supergirl.
“(y/n)?”
you looked up at her and smiled
“of course it’s me Kara.” you said
“What?” she asked
“I’ve known who you are since the beginning, its not that hard to put on a pair of glasses.” you laughed
“So why do all of this?” she asked
“Why? I didn't have a choice, I grew up doing this I was forced into it.” you said
“So you became a serial killer and called yourself the watch tower?” she asked
“Kara I didn’t want to be this, I wanted to stop every time I went out. You think it’s just me? You think that I had a choice? Kara I don’t want to be this I wanted to be the person that everyone thought I was.” you said feeling your throat get dry.
“Why don’t you stop, you can stop anytime, you made a choice (y/n)”
“But I didn’t, choose. Why would I choose this, you never ask why these people are doing these things. What made me this, why I have to do this.” you said talking was starting to become difficult.
“You need to come with me.” she said walking towards you
You started stepping back
“(y/n) think about Lena you need to come with me if everything you said was true. If you really have no choice we can help. If you want to even salvage your relationship with her or if you love her.” she said
“Of course I love her, I love her more than anything. They won’t let me live if I come with you.”
“We will protect you with everything we have, but you need to come with us you need to explain.” she said finally getting close enough to touch you.
“Let me explain to her instead of you. Let me tell my story before you decide what your final opinion on me is.”
“of course.”
Then she took you back to the D.E.O holding.

[7/20]
Rating: Mature
Warnings: N/A
Pairing: Sara Lance/Alex Danvers
Summary: Maybe, this could be enough
N.B.: Also posted on AO3
J’onn had come to a decision about the CIA chatter after thinking over it for the next few days: extra precautions. Alex and Winn were going to go up and act as backup recon to the crew. They were going to go ahead of time and neither the CIA nor the DEO agents were to be made aware (not including J’onn and Agent Merkel, who were both some of the highest ranking superiors Alex had in the DEO, anyway, so it made sense).
Alex had been anxious about the idea. Though she loved a good field mission, the idea that it was away from her recruits and Supergirl made her feel antsy about it. Still, when J’onn brought her in for the briefing with Merkel, she realised it wasn’t because J’onn had asked her to be there. It was because of Merkel.
“You and I don’t do missions often. But you have a good head, you take and give orders well and you don’t lose it when the mission goes sideways. If I want anyone on my back, it’s you.”
“Thank you, Ma’am.”
Merkel didn’t offer any smile. Her face was perpetually frown, eyes crinkled as if she was always critically evaluation what was in front of her. “Don’t let it go to your head,” was all she said, before leaving. Alex didn’t have a clue what she meant by that. From a compliment?
Going away, and given only a few days notice, meant she had to handover her lesson plans to Vasquez, who would be taking over for the two weeks. Vasquez had met her recruits a few times, as representative of the Comms crew, but she had also once been Alex’s right hand and it felt right to give it to her. After-all, they’d both been field agents together before Vasquez separated to communications.
Before Vasquez took over entirely, she did the one thing she’d put off and met Nilo face-to-face. At this stage, it was obvious she’d singled him out. It took time to go over the meaning of Sara’s words and place that in the frame of her own work. On one hand, she could mark his records, on the other, that would tarnish his ability if she was able to change that. She couldn’t unmark his records once it was there.
Eventually, she came to a decision as she sat in the small training room, facing Nilo across a table as the others worked on a few exercises she left them with.
“So,” she began, looking over the notes she drafted for the one-on-one. “What do you think I should be saying?”
Nilo’s mouth parted, before he shook his head and shrugged, his arms folding in front of him. “You tell me.”
Alex raised her eyebrow and waited.
“Ma’am,” he added, though it came out strained. She waited a few more moments and then watched as facade crumbled. “Look, I thought I did well, but then you act as if I kicked your dog on that day. And then you avoid me for a day, couldn’t even meet my eyes! You even spoke to Saunders days ago and she abandoned us to go on and do her own thing. I expected that you were going to kick her out. We all did after that stunt, but you kept her and now I get shafted with this shit.”
Alex drew in a breath, abandoning her notes. “Do you know what the point of the mission was?” she asked. Nilo shrugged. “The point was that I gave you a mission to get a dossier with overwhelming numbers. If you chose to go in on level two, everyone from level three would have come at your back. The same was meant to happen when you skipped two to go to three. If you hadn’t done level one correctly, it would have been more numbers on your six. Do you want to know what happened instead?”
Nilo blinked, surprised. “So, it was a suicide mission. That’s why the information was wrong.”
“Yes,” Alex said. “For two reasons. One, to teach you that you’re going to go in blind more often than not, and two, to teach you to retreat. But you didn’t retreat, you risked your team for out-dated intel.”
“That was just a prop though, eh?”
“I said to treat the entire mission as if it was real, that included what was in the dossier. You think that I couldn’t have spent the five needed minutes to typed up some pseudo current intel instead of manually printing pages of intel, that I had to get signed off on by people way above your authority, to place in?” A lot of the information wasn’t really meant for the general public, but neither was it hidden from them anymore.
“You…” he trailed off, the words sticking in his throat. “How was I supposed to know that?”
“Tell me this, then,” Alex said. “Say it was real intel. Say it was intel that was important. Would you ask your team to risk their lives, knowing that if they get caught, you won’t go back for them?”
“Maybe!” he said, “is that why we’re here. National security from the unknown.”
“Okay,” she shrugged, “What if I lead you. If told you that if you go in there with me, and you fall down, I will leave you there to be handed over to the enemy. Would you follow me through hell?”
An argument rose and died on his face as his shoulders slackened. “Maybe,” he tried, “I mean, if it’s worth it.”
“Then you’re not doing it for me, are you?” She leant forward across the table. “Look at me. Nilo, you and all those recruits. If I take you in, I will get you out if there’s even the single chance you’ll make it, I do that because I need you to know that I would never ask anything more of you or my team that I would not ask of myself.”
“I didn’t see her,” he said. “I mean, maybe, but not really.”
That dishonestly gave way to a rage inside of Alex. “You want to know what I saw? Because I must have been over that footage at least ten time, and I don’t see how you could have missed Warren. She’d be shot in the leg and you left her there so you could run out with the dossier. You left Saunders behind, by herself to die because she disobeyed an order. If that simulation had been real, Saunders probably was the difference between a slaughter and most of your team getting out alive. She was twice the person you were in that simulation, that’s why she’s still here.”
Nilo’s face crumbled before he turned away as a flush of red struck through him. Although the expression was slowly shifting to fury, Alex knew him well enough to know that there was more to it. Rather than poke at him for a response, she looked away from him, so she could just see his expression from the corner of her eyes, and waited.
After a few moments, he cleared his voice and said, “So…I failed the mission.” And then, as he drew in a breath, he incredulously added, “But…I got what you asked for. I did what you said to do.”
“You didn’t check the information, you didn’t verify that it was the correct one, you left your team behind and you risked all their lives,” she began before softening her voice. “You began so well and then I think you got carried away with trying to win. Look, Nilo, I want you to become a leader. I think you’d be great, but if you are to become a C.O. you need to start thinking about your team, they will live and die for you because they need to believe that you’ll get them out, if you can’t do that, they will turn on you so fast that you’ll either die, or worse, become one of the people we keep in the DEO basement locked up. That’s the big take-away from this.”
Nilo nodded, though he’d lost the swagger and pride he’d walked in with. “I don’t think I can,” he said as he lifted his head to meet her eyes. “I’m not cut out ––“
“Yes you are,” Alex affirmed. “This is your first year in training, you have years before being a C.O. will even be on the table and you have a lot of work to do. But if you listen to your team, if you work with them, if you actually meet them as their equal and lead, then you’ll be great. Stop looking out for just yourself. You’re not alone any more.”
Nilo drew in a deep breath and nodded, holding eye contact this time, and Alex, for the first time, gave him a smile as she rose to her feet. “You’ve got this.”
“Okay.” He said, and then offered her a small smile in return. “Alright,” he said again, standing. “Thanks Agent Danvers. You’re all right.”
“Hell yeah I am.”
Alex made sure that he went back into the training room, before leaving her class in the hands of Vasquez to run over finer points of the mission with J’onn and Winn. She was confident in Agent Vasquez training technique. She’d be softer than herself, but not so much that the class forgot that she was their commanding officer.
Heading up another floor, she headed to the labs where J’onn and Winn were going over what gear to take for the mission.
“There you are,” Winn said as she came to stand beside him, just as he closed one of the larger surveillance gear packs. Alex gave a short, don’t even try it expressions before looking to J’onn.
“What do the others think we’re up to?”
“Recon mission in Florida, half-forced holiday,” J’onn explained. “Merkel’s aware that you’ll be up with them, but the less that people know, the better. When’s the soonest that you’re able to leave?”
“Tonight,” Alex said. She could leave sooner, but night gave Winn enough time to get things ready, as well as allow her inform Kara that she’ll be out of town for a bit. Though she knew her sister could handle herself, it was comforting to know that while she was going through a volatile tile, J’onn and James would keep an eye on her.
“I can…also do tonight,” Winn said. “I’ll need to run by and make J- some friends aware. Feed my fish and all that. How long will we be gone?”
“As long as it takes,” J’onn said. “The auction is expected to happen in six days, but Merkel runs the shots. She’ll keep you both up to date.” Alex nodded, she expected it to take a week, probably even two, which meant little contact back home while she sorted that out.
“So….are we flying up?” Winn asked.
“Not unless you can get weapons and surveillance gear on a domestic flight,” J’onn said, his voice laced with just enough irony to drive the point.
“No, I just thought…” and Winn trailed off, probably realising that if they took one of the DEO planes then they wouldn’t be “undercover” for very long. “Right, got it. We’re taking one of the SUV’s, aren’t we?”
“The silver one, so you will both blend in.”
Winn frowned, looking between J’onn and Alex. “Seriously?” he asked. Alex nodded, the SUV blended right in with traffic. There was always a dozen on the road at any given time and They’ll look like a couple going on holidays up north. No one would be one the wiser.
“Good, you two get sorted and meet back by six tonight to head out.”
Alex nodded, a quick, “Yes sir,” as response, just as Win opened his mouth, looking as though there was a dozen questions at the tip of his tongue. Alex shared a brief look with J’onn before heading out, leaving him to handle Winn. There were time when Alex was vividly aware that Winn hadn’t gone through the same rigorous training program that the other agents had. Though he was just as much a part of the team than anyone else, and she wouldn’t have it any other way, Winn’s ease at talking back and questioning C.O.’s direct orders was often something that rubbed at her.
Probably because Alex had been in trouble more than a few times for talking back or disobeying. She’d learnt when and where to hold her tongue, whereas Winn didn’t have to learn the necessity of that self discipline.
Leaving the lab, Alex tied off a few loose threads at work, before checking out weapons and a science kit from the labs. She also took one of the kevlar vests, moving them all to the silver SUV they’d be taking on mission.
It was early afternoon when she went home and packed her bags, taking clothes that were less Alex Danvers, and more Kara. Pastels and cardigans, no one would look at her and think that she was anyone on a mission to prevent a black market auction from happening. Bag packed with most necessities, Alex changed out of her work clothes and into jeans and a t-shirt so she didn’t appear to conspicuous as she went to visit her sister.
Before she dropped in on CatCo Media, she picked up a bag of cinnamon doughnuts and coffees to take to her sister, feeling guilty at the idea of leaving her. She wasn’t Kara’s keeper, and technically she probably needed more protected than Supergirl, given the lack of bulletproof-ness, but it still felt like her responsibility.
One day they would both be ninety, sitting in rocking chairs on a porch and Alex would still feel the need to be Kara’s protector.
Down in the CatCo lobby, she spoke the receptionist staff who lead her into the elevator, advising her of what floor Kara’s office was on. It wasn’t the first time she’d been at CatCo, but she wasn’t sure that she’d been there under good terms before.
She ran into James on her way to Kara’s desk, who shot her a confused look. “Day off?” he asked.
“Sort of,” she answered. “I’m sure Winn will get you up to speed,” she explained briefly. At Kara’s desk, she found her sister furiously talking to Lena Luthor –– a woman, who despite Alex’s original beliefs, had proven to be worthy of Kara’s friendship. As Kara spoke, Lena appeared utterly involved in the conversation, though she said little, allowing Kara to babble on, her hands move in conversation, adjusting her glasses at the end of her point before Lena said something that begun Kara off a new tangent again.
“–– said that statistics of human weapon violence far outweighs Alien. I mean, if you look at Australia, Japan, even Canada, there’s this…” and Kara trailed off, catching sight of Alex. “What are you doing here?” she asked, before seemingly to realise how rude that sounded. “Not that it’s not good to see you, just that I didn’t expect to see you here. Is Mum okay?”
“Mum’s fine. I just came to say that I’m going away for a few days and if you could collect mail for me for a for that time?”
Kara’s mouth parted to say something, before remembering that talking openly about Alex’s work wasn’t something she should be doing in a public space, not that Lena nor James weren’t aware of her work.
“Ms Danvers,” Lena said warmly. “It’s good to see you.”
“You too,” Alex returned before turning to her sister. “I brought doughnuts and coffee,” she said in way of offering, handing the bag over. Her sister leapt on the doughnuts, scoffing one in her face before delightedly announcing that they were still warm.
“How long will you be gone for?”
“Two weeks, probably.”
“Probably,” Kara repeated. “Alex…”
“Two weeks, maybe even less,” she said again, filling her voice with optimism. “Winn’s coming with me, but you’ll still have James, Lena and J’onn,” she said, giving Kara a smile.
“And Sam,” Lena added.
“Yes, and Sam,” she agreed.
“I know, I just…can’t I come?”
“No, this is a work thing,” Alex said. If Supergirl started appearing up in the North, saving kittens from trees, it wouldn’t take long before anyone from the DEO began to realise that Alex was trailing around as back-up to her nearly everywhere. No, she had to do it with just her and Winn. Old school. “You’ll hardly notice that I’m gone.”
“What about our pizza and pot-sticker night?” Kara asked.
“I’m sure Lena would be an appropriate substitute. Right?” she asked, looking at the woman, whose smile blossomed at the mention of it.
“Of course. We can make a night of it, or keep it as relaxed as you would like,” she said, the hint of an Irish accent seeping through as it always seemed to when she grew excited around Kara. Alex was someone who probably didn’t count herself as having the greatest “gay-dar”, but both her and Maggie had come to same conclusion that Lena was crushing hard on Kara. Whether romantically or out of awestruck admiration was another thing entirely, but there was certainly something starstruck in the way that Lena looked at her.
“Thanks Lena,” Kara said, and there was a warmth in her voice that eased a worry Alex didn’t realise she had until then. Whatever Kara was working on had certainly eased her soul. That was something, at least.
“Do you have my keys?” she asked.
“Yep. I’ll grab your mail, and use up anything in your fridge that’ll expire.”
“And leave my clothes on my hangers after what you did to my last dress,” she warned, remembering all to well at finding the broken zipper in her closet as Kara pretended it didn’t happen before immediately admitting to it the moment Alex had spoken to her about it.
“I’ll do my best,” Kara said. “But I got the zipper fixed, at least.”
Alex kept her mouth shit, biting back a comment about how the new zipper had never been the same since. She had to get someone else to zip it up, or struggle with a mixture of tools and yoga positions to zip it up. For all that effort, she just bought a new dress instead.
And then promptly had ripped that at Barry and Iris’ wedding.
God, she didn’t want to think about that. She didn’t have time to think about that or anyone related to that wedding party.
“Alright,” she said, giving her sister a quick hug. “Thank you. I will see you in two weeks.  J’onn will keep you up to date.”
“Wait, you’re going on radio silence?” Kara asked.
Alex pulled back and pressed her lips shut, even though Lena was doing a very good job at pretending to be interested in talking to James about the upcoming launch. “It’s important,” was all she said. “I’ll explain it to you when I get back.”
“Okay,” Kara agreed, the double syllable coming out tight with a scrunch of Kara’s brow. “But the moment you get back, you come and visit me.”
“Sure thing Mum,” Alex teased, giving her sister another hug. She gave James and Lena a briefer goodbye, before heading back over to Winn’s apartment.
His apartment was two suburbs over, in a good area, nicer than the one Alex was in. There, Winn was ready with his big, navy blue suitcase as if they were planning a holiday.
“Got enough things?” she asked.
“Yep, everything I’ll need,” he nodded, perhaps unaware of the sarcasm in her voice. “Is that all you’re taking?” he asked, looking at her bag. It was a decent size bag that she had slung over her shoulder. Inside of it were the clothes and toiletries she’d need for a mission that she wouldn’t be able to get upstate. All of her weapons and the few other things she might need were all packed away in the car that J’onn was bringing over. She reiterated as much to Winn who then asked if she’d brought any materials like books or magazine to read while they’d be driving, as he had brought an audiobook for the car.
Alex gave him a strange look, but before she could explain that there was no way she would be listening to his audiobook, J’onn arrived.
“Here,” he said, handing over the keys to Alex with two burner phones, and two sets of wallets that contained enough cash, as well as an emergency-only credit card, to keep them out of trouble. It was a small mission and yet Winn was still amazed at the effort that had to be taken to get them ready.
If Alex was being honest, undercover missions always amazed her.
“Merkel will be calling you around seven o’clock each night with any updates you might need to know. Given the nature of the situation, I would advice against contacting her unless you need to.” Alex nodded.
“Man, I can’t believe we’re going on a mission together. Crazy right?” Winn asked.
Alex gave him a look, finding herself only partially annoyed and somewhat endeared by Winn’s enthusiasm for the situation.
“Look after him,” J’onn said and Alex smiled as Winn began to protest that he would be fine, before slowly admitting that given previous circumstances, he wasn’t entirely against having Alex there.
With no more than a single nod and a short goodbye, Alex and Winn went to the SUV and placed their bags away before getting into the car, Alex moved behind the wheel, with Winn calling ‘DJ’ as they headed out of National City, towards the North. It was to be a long trip –– two-day trip, not including stops –– to get to where they needed to be.
“We should get a motel in Haven’s Point,” Winn said as he looked through the paper map, despite the car’s GPS system that Alex use to key in the destination.
“We’ll just sleep in the car,” Alex said. “It’ll be faster.”
“That’s a lot of driving, Alex. Don’t you want to stop and shower, sleep in a bed to just break it up.”
“We’ll do that when we arrive. We need to get there before the CIA and DEO get into position.”
“We already know when and where there going to be, and J’onn already told us everything he knew.”
Alex kept quiet, her mouth a thin line. She had a gut instinct that this mission was going to go south for the DEO. It wasn’t a kept secret that the only reason the CIA had decided to work with them this time was because they knew that the DEO’s field agents had a more intricate understanding of alien languages than they could.  With Kara often being the modern-day rosetta stone, they were able to be leagues beyond the CIA in terms of code breaking extraterrestrial information. It left the department, who had previously considered themselves the leading experts in xenology, appearing partially incompetent.
Not to mention that the DEO was the reason that they knew where the auction was happening in the first place. It would make sense that the CIA may be resentful for needing to work with them. Still, it seemed ridiculous to risk the partnership because of their pride.
“Can you go over exactly what you heard on the chatter?”
“Again?” Winn asked. “Haven’t you heard it a hundred times?”
“Again,” she said.
With a sigh, Winn repeated the conversation again, verbatim, if with an unnecessary pizzaz in the voice. It was the same thing, over and over. Alex had listened to the recorded conversation herself, and had drawn the same conclusion that Winn had. The CIA were planning to double cross them and, that there was something unsaid. Something important that they were missing, though there seemed to be no additional clues in the speech that she could decipher.
As they travelled deep into the night, Alex mind wound over and over the conversation, trying to remember the exact words and tone used by the agents. There had to be something there to uncover. Some puzzle piece that would bring it all together.
She knew the mechanics of how Winn had caught the chatter, but were the CIA that easy to slip up. One wrong conversation held over one wrong radio chatter? It seemed far too simple — and yet, Alex of all people knew that agencies had been caught over less.
Drawing out an exhale, she drummed her fingers across the steering wheel and found her mind replaying the conversation again, anyway, Beside her, Winn had fallen asleep. When Alex had refused to listen to his audiobook, he’d placed his headphones on and drifted on to sleep listening to some podcast. This had of course been after he had first nattered about car games and then nagged her about finding a motel, but eventually had given up on both points. Maybe, in a few hundred more miles, Alex would think about pulling the car over and folding the backseats down. Maybe.
They could still get plenty of sleep by taking turns driving.
The first switch happened after they stopped to fill up the car. They were seven hours closer to the destination and over halfway through the night. As she paid for gas, she bought Winn an energy drink and a packet of chips. They’d be a good way away from a decent meal for a while and she didn’t trust roadside hot food after the time she got food poisoning when she’d been sixteen.
“Do you mind if I…?” he asked, pointing to the auxiliary chord.
Alex nodded, allowing him to finally, plug in his device and continue his audiobook. With her own pillow, Alex curled up in the seat and closed her eyes as the cottonwool of her thoughts  became nothing more than a soft buzz.
She opened her eyes to the Waverider, but it wasn’t within Sara’s room. Rather, she found herself in the strange circular room that looked to have been stolen from a museum exhibition. Bits and pieces scattered among cabinets and walls. Knick-knacks were placed randomly over a large table that laid in the middle of the room, on display but in no sensical order. Behind the table, in a tall, cushioned chair,  Sara’s head lifted, eyes pulling open before she began to push out of the chair with no apparent strained muscles or awkwardness.
“Doesn’t look like a comfortable place to sleep,” Alex said.
‘I’m only napping,” Sara shrugged. “Things to see, people to do and all that.”
Alex nodded, looking around the space at all the objects taken from time, the maps and paintings that spoke of another era. It didn’t feel like a space created by Sara, but rather one that had been collected and held by someone who had been trying to hold onto mementoes from their travels.
“Alex,” Sara’s voice pulled. “Look, about the other night.”
Alex froze at the very mention of the previous embarrassment. She’d been doing a very good job over the last day in pretending it hadn’t happened. “It’s okay,” she said, looking to face Sara. “I made a mistake. I misread ––“
“You didn’t misread anything.”
Alex paused, waiting then for what was probably going to be a it’s not you, it’s me conversation that she’d rather not have at all.
“It’s because I’m seeing someone,” Sara said, laying it out. “I know that this might just be some dumb dream, but at the same time, I think we both know that there’s something more to it than just that, no matter what Gideon says.”
Alex swallowed in the pause while Sara waited for her response. The woman looked somewhere between defensive and struggling to be open. Her lips were pursed and there was tension around her eyes, but Alex could see in her posture that she was trying to be fair to her.
“So you’re seeing someone else,” Alex prompted, “and…” That would mean you were cheating on them, she omitted. “How recent is it?”
“After the cabin, but before the other night.” Sara explained, looking away. “It’s recent-recent, and we haven’t spoken about… but I don’t want to screw it up. And…” she trailed off and met Alex’s eyes. “I mean, it wasn’t fair to you either. You deserved to know about Ava.”
“Ava,” Alex echoed aloud, before adding, “Well, she-she sounds nice. I mean, she must be…special, to…” and then Alex trailed off, feeling the hand she used to emphasis special with fall flat by her side. “I’m glad you found someone,” she finished off.
“Thank…you?” Sara questioned with a strange look and a laugh.
It was a laughable thing, and Alex knew that Sara was teasing her but all she could manage in return was a weak smile. Her heart gave a squeeze. It didn’t feel like a standard rejection, not really, it felt…like when she was in college and she found out her study group had a regular Thursday night at the bar that she’d never been invited to. A part of her felt angry and wanted to immediately dislike whoever Ava was, but Alex was old enough to know that that wasn’t fair to whomever the woman was, and Sara was only trying to reduce the amount of hurt and pain between them all. But the anger didn’t hush inside of her, no matter the reason in her thoughts.
“Did you tell her about me?” Alex asked.
“Yes and no,” Sara said. “Not about the dreams.”
“But about the wedding,” Alex nodded, feeling the anger creep into her voice, before she pushed it down. It wasn’t like she’d been telling anyone about her dreams. “What did you mean before, when you said ‘despite what Gideon says’?”
Sara blinked, before folding her arms against her chest. “Gideon can monitor our dreams. She’s a bit of a voyeur sometimes. Anyway, after the first two nights I asked if she could monitor my dreams, but, of course, I was stranded in time for a few days, so that didn’t work out. When I finally did come back, Gideon said that she couldn’t see any evidence of the dreams I spoke of. The dreams with you.”
“The ones where you came to my apartment?”
Sara nodded. “Don’t exist, apparently. Which makes me think I’m crazy, however, Gideon pointed out that I’ve been having some other dreams that make more sense than this, whatever this is but I don’t recall having them. So, unless…”
“Something else is going on. Such as you’re brain is still showing signs of activity, but a part of you is…here.”
“Bingo.”
“Otherwise, this doesn’t exist.” Alex paused, chewing over the idea to work out what could cause that. For the body to still be there, while the mind wandered. It made little sense. “Do you really think that…in some way you’re still dreaming, but a part of you is astral projecting across another universe?”
Sara shrugged. “It’s not a completely crazy idea.”
“None of that makes sense,” Alex pointed out. “None of this makes sense anyway.”
“Look, astral projection is honestly the least of my worries at this point,” Sara shrugged, tossing her a quick smile. There were a hundred different points in science that Alex wanted to pull out as examples in how astral projection couldn’t be an option, but Sara’s eased smile, the way she looked as if none of that really mattered, was a seductive way of thought.
Alex frowned. “This is real, isn’t it? In some way, it has to be…real.”
“I guess it depends on your definition of real.” Sara tried, and then shook her head. “I don’t know, I don’t know if you are real and I have no way of proving it if I want to so I’ll just take it at face value at this point until we can work out a reason why it isn’t.”
“We could always…visit each other. Somewhere?” Alex suggested.
“You come to my universe and I drag my team to meet you?” Sara asked. “Look, I want this to be real, it’ll make things a lot less complicated if it is,” before she added, “or more complicated. But I can’t drag my team away from what we’re doing at the moment, it’s too big.”
Sara hadn’t intended to be rude, Alex knew that, but the blunt way she said it still stung against her pride.
“I wasn’t suggesting that for now,” she said, hearing the defence in her words as loudly as if she had crossed her arms against her chest. “I wouldn’t be able to do anything for the next few weeks anyway. I’m nowhere near Kara or the cross-universe device. I just…look, I’m a scientist first. Something strange happens, apart of me will always want to rationalise it.”
“And if it’s magic?”
“There’s no such thing,” Alex said.
Sara looked taken aback, as if she couldn’t quite read her before she laughed. “You’re kidding right. All this crap and you draw the line at magic?”
“There’s no such thing,” she affirmed. “Look if I take my gun back to ancient civilisation, they’ll think it’s magic for shooting down something from afar, but that’s just because they don’t understand it. Magic is just a word for the unknown, to simply it rather than search for answer.”
“Well, I can’t say much to that,” Sara responded and a quiet fell between them, before she turned away, going over to the corner to pour two glasses of scotch into what looked like a very nice set of crystal glasses.
As the sound of pouring liquid filled the empty space in their conversation became almost unbearable, Sara asked, “so…you’re out of the office, I take it?”
“Recon,” Alex nodded. “So, nothing too exciting yet. Just back-up.”
“Huh. Aliens?”
“Sort of, more…CIA.”
“Oh…kay,” Sara turned around, handing one of the glasses over, before she leant against a table filled with an assortment of maps and star-charts. “Aren’t you guys branched off from the CIA…or Homeland or whatever?”
Alex shoulders eased as the conversation moved to somewhere more comfortable. Emotionally speaking. “No, we’re branched off from the military, directly.”
“I thought you guys were like a CIA, FBI crossover team for outer space.”
Alex gave a short laugh. “It’d be so much easier if we were. The DEO was originally constructed as a secret defence subsection against extraterrestrial life. Our funding was structured around the dependency to prevent alien attacks once the government realised they were taking an interest in Earth. But since the President’s an alien, now, we can focus less on being a military defence force, and more for being sort of like a government agency, protecting Earth and minimising threats before they become bigger problems, solving alien murders. Neutralising terrorist attacks with the use of Alien weapons. All that fun.”
“Like ARGUS.” Sara nodded, though there was a look in her eye as she took a sip of whiskey. “Did I hear you say that the American president is an alien?” She questioned. “People must love that.”
“They don’t know. She’s an American citizen, been here since she was young, it gets iffy around her birth but I liked her more than the other guy, and she does a lot of good.”
She watched Sara nod, it wasn’t quite flabbergasted, but the look was certainly one that had a stunned element to it as she drew the drink to her lips. “Strange,” she whispered against the glass.
“It’s not that strange. J’onn’s an alien too, after-all.”
“He’s your boss, right? Isn’t that like some conflict of interest?”
Yes, definitely, Alex thought. But she shrugged instead. After all, J’onn was the best man for the job, capable of just as much, if not more empathic than Kara with his telepathic ability. And yet, his history of war and the lessons learnt of the cost of complacent in the face of evil made him the most pragmatic choice of Alien Defence.
“So, where are you now, then? On a plane?”
“No, driving. Well, Winn’s driving, I’m clearly not at this moment, otherwise there would be much, much bigger problems at hand.” Despite the terrible attempt at humour, Sara smiled at her. It lit up her whole face and Alex could see as plainly as the freckles on her skin, that Sara Lance thought she was a dork.
“Well, at least you’re getting sleep,” she said.
“For the moment. What about you, this can’t be a good place to sleep.”
Sara shook her head, a small laugh at something. In response Alex took a sip of her own whiskey and looked around the room again, eyeing the memorabilia to find a new start to the suddenly dropped conversation. It definitely wasn’t at all awkward as it happened for the second time in what seemed to be as many minutes. And Alex definitely wasn’t tossing between if she should she wake up or if should she say something about the previously mentioned partner –– Ava –– or was that weird?
It was probably weird. Maybe she should…
“Have you ever met anyone else here, in this…plane of existence?” Sara asked.
“No, have you?”
“Not here. These dreams seemed to be centred entirely on meeting you,” Sara said, using her index finger to point at Alex, flirtation lilting her voice. “But who knows. You could be Mallus all along. Which would have been…weird considering the other night. But what isn’t weird in my life at the moment.”
“Who’s Mallus?”
Sara scrunched up her nose. “Just some big bad,” she said. Don’t worry about it. Legends are on it.” Alex found herself letting out short exhale as she came face-to-face with a classic trademarked Sara smile. “Then maybe we can find some moment to meet up.”
Unrelenting, she thought to herself, and yet she felt that Sara knew how to speak without some sardonic charm or flirt. It was almost like a brittle facade from something else it wasn’t an insecurity but a defence, nonetheless.
“Are you analysing me?”
“Always.”
“Well…don’t.”
“Well don’t you do it either,” Alex retorted with as much maturity as Sara had.
“Fine, I’ll just take my psychoanalysing back to the nap I was happening.”
Alex blinked, and then without a beat asked, “Is Mallus the reason you’re sleeping in a chair and not in the comfort of your bed?”
Sara sobered as she answered, “Partially. Didn’t really mean to be sleeping. I was working,” Sara said, gesturing to what Alex had been taken as general clutter, to be an assortment of books and highlighted notes. Bending over the table to flick through the information Alex noted the different groups of handwritings, probably from the research-orientated members of the team. There was scrawled handwriting in black ink, a tidy block writing in blue and red, and one she took to be, due to the violet pen being used to make coded shorthand, to be Sara’s. The shorthand had probably been out of habit, the code its self was intentional.
“You should get sleep, in a real bed while it’s nearby,” she said, looking up from the notes.
“Thanks Mum, but I’ve slept rough before. And not just because I slept in a mountain,” Sara pointed out before Alex could say it.
“No, you used to go camping,” she drolly responded.
Sara’s jaw dropped with a soft gasp as she shook her head. Despite the scowl on her lips, Alex could see Sara’s eyes sparkling as she said, “Wow. I won’t share anything with you if you keep saying it back to me in that tone.”
“What tone?” Alex asked with mock-surprise. “I’m just stating facts as they were laid out to me before.”
“Mmhmm, sure. I am a former assassin I’ll have you know. One who doesn’t like to be mocked by cross-universe travellers.”
“And I’m an agent of the DEO,” Alex responded. “Trained in interrogation as well as defensive manoeuvres against would-be assassins.”
Sara’s mouth was attempting to remain a straight line but quirked in amusement giving a soft flicker to Alex’s belly before that twisted like a sudden knife had struck her.
The flirtation and joking was fun, fun enough that Alex found her heart beating hard as she looked at Sara and remembered that she had a girlfriend. That she wasn’t available. That Sara and her now had to share dreamscape and pretend that it wasn’t at least a little bit awkward that they had been an almost, a once-was.
She also had to remember that Sara wasn’t real.
Something must have visibly shown across her face as the amusement in Sara’s face died away, giving to a soft frown as she began fiddling with her drink whilst leaning against the table in the centre of the room that had a mess of maps, her eyes moving to look anyway but at Alex. Perhaps she realised too.
“So recon?” Sara asked to shuffle the conversation along.
“Mhmm,” Alex responded. “Got the big guns.”
“Is that so? Bet they couldn’t beat Cisco’s brain-child weapons.”
Alex gave a false head nod. “I don’t know, it is Alien technology. Cisco’s good, but he’s not a thousand years ahead of us in science, Alien-tech good. Even Winn is impressed.”
“I don’t know Winn well enough to know what that means, but I feel like alien technology is definitely cheating.”
“Well, I’ve always cheated at cards, so…”
“Now that is evil. The very sanctity of cards…” and then Sara smiled at her and Alex though, maybe…maybe this could be real, and they could be friends. She could forget about the other night, forget about the kisses and the wedding night and the way Sara’s hands ran over her skin and how Alex hadn’t thought about Maggie in so long.
She could forget all of that, and just smile and enjoy this moment.
Because it was enough.
Maybe, it could be enough.

Betrayal - Chapter 9
Now that Lena has joined her father and the Titans against the Gods, her loyalties made clear. Her betrayal of all she once held dear haunts her every day. But she made her choice and as the war between the Gods and Titans draws near, Lena’s allegiances will be put to the test. Does she help bring about the end of the reign of the Gods? Or will her love for Kara Danvers and the friendships she made along the way be enough to stop the daughter of Hyperion.
Or
A PJO inspired Supercorp series. Part Two: Betrayal.
Read it here on AO3
I.
Kara looked around at the devastation that the Titan's attack had brought on Demos. Once flawless stone and marble walls, now in rubble. Blood smeared the floors, the walls, and any other surface that was visible. The halls of the school and indeed into the outdoors areas further on the school grounds was littered with dead bodies, the dust of defeated monsters, and wounded halfbloods. Children of Apollo were scurrying around to tend to the wounded. Other halfbloods tending to their own injuries. And others still were simply trying to process what had just happened.
Kara sat on the back steps of the main entrance building, her sword on the ground beside her. Her heart was numb, her fingers cold. She was coming down from her adrenaline rush and her body was beginning to ache.
Mon-El sat down next to her, rubbing his head, a rather large and ugly bruised bump on the side of it. "How are you holding up?" He asked his friend. Kara just shrugged despondently. She really didn't know what to think anymore. "I'm guessing you saw..." He trailed off and she nodded hesitantly. Truth be told, her mind was so caught up other things that Lena's reappearance in her life wasn't something she really had time to process.
"Yeah. I fought her." Kara said. "She's gotten better," Kara recalled the slight and brief surge of pride she felt as she fought Lena. She always knew that her friend had so much potential with a sword. And it seemed as though the two years the two had spent apart had only improved that skill tenfold. Mon-El nodded in agreement.
"She packs one hell of a punch." He said. "Knocked me out clean." He said, wincing as his head throbbed. "Anyway, J'onn wants all of us to meet. To debrief. And talk about what to do next." He informed Kara. The blonde nodded as her friend got to his feet, offering her his hand. She grabbed it as he pulled her to her feet. Kara bent down and picked up her sword, dragging it behind her as she followed Mon-El to J'onn's office.
The two entered the familiar office which had mostly escaped any damage. There was a little bit of collateral damage, but most of the fight had taken place in the entrance hall and out in the quad. As usual, Kara was the last to arrive, everyone else, including James, was already gathered around J'onn's desk. Kara avoided Alex's gaze, though she noted that her sister had a large bandage wrapped around her leg and a crutch next to her, Maggie staying very close to her.
Winn looked to have come out of it fairly unscathed and James had a few cuts and bruises but nothing too bad. J'onn also had a few scrapes, but nothing life threatening. Alex seemed to have suffered the worst of injury of all of them. "Kara." J'onn greeted her as she nodded, sitting down in a chair next to James, Mon-El taking a seat next to her.
"I know you all need time to recover, but we do need to discuss our plans moving forward, quickly. The Titan's forces retreated rather than stand and fight."
Alex interjected.
"One of the halfbloods, Veronica Sinclair I think, sounded the retreat, she told Lena that they 'got what they wanted.'" She informed everyone. J'onn frowned.
"Veronica Sinclair. I’m not surprised that is where she disappeared to. I can't say I know what they were looking for, but that may be cause to be cautious." He said. "You mentioned Lena, so you saw her?" He questioned. Alex gritted her teeth, but Kara shot her a look and Maggie placed a gentle hand on her shoulder.
"Yes. We saw her. We fought her. She was the one who injured Alex's leg. We don't know how she did it, but it was deeper than we first thought. It probably would have gotten infected if one of Apollo's kids hadn't been able to stop the bleeding and clean the wound quickly." Maggie said sadly. "But Lena is more powerful than ever. More so than I think any of us thought she could be." She said, Mon-El and Alex nodding in agreement.
"She made quick work of me," Mon-El admitted, a hint of pride though mostly hurt in his voice.
"What happened exactly?" J'onn asked curiously.
"She entered the school first before everyone else was overwhelmed by their forces. She was clearly their leader. Mon-El went to engage her first, though she fought and defeated him. Knocked him out. I wasn't sure what she was planning on doing next before I tackled her." Maggie recapped. "Then it was me and Alex fighting her. She tried to get through our defense but had to use her powers to throw me off before injuring Alex. I think she was seriously considering killing Alex before Kara intervened." Maggie said. Everyone turned to look at Kara, who just blinked.
"Kara?" James asked. The blonde ran through her brief confrontation with Lena in her mind before speaking.
"She... I don't know what she wanted to do to Alex, but she hesitated when she saw me. I think she's conflicted about everything." Kara insisted, continuing to stand up for the girl that was once her closest friend, though Alex just groaned.
"When are you going to get it through your head that she wants to kill us, Kara? Look what she did to Mon-El. To me!" Alex tried to get through to her sister, but Kara just gave Alex a dirty look.
"There's more to this story Alex. She didn't kill Mon-El even though she could have. She let James go. She injured you, but she didn't kill you. She left you alive. She told me that it was either join the Titans or we'd all die. She still cares for us. For me." Kara tried.
"She's still a danger Kara," Winn said carefully.
"She said that next time she will finish the job, Kara," Alex said, a little more calmly. "I'm just trying to look out for you. I know you love her, but she isn't the same person she used to be. I don't think that person even exists anymore." Alex said, a hint of sadness in her voice that Kara hadn't heard out of Alex's mouth in regards to Lena in a long time. “I love you, Kara. I just don’t want to see you hurt by her again.” She pled with her sister.
"I'm inclined to agree with Alex and Winn, Kara. She is still a threat. I would hope that you are right and there is another side to this, but as it stands now, she is our enemy and she has to be treated as such." J'onn interjected. "She needs to be taken care of. Soon. Alive if possible." He said grimly.
"I don't know if I can condone killing her, J'onn." James surprisingly said. Kara nodded in agreement, as did Maggie and Mon-El.
"We can't kill her!" Kara cried. "She's still in there, I know she is. She just needs to be reminded of what she has here. She spent two years with the Titans. Probably being abused by her father. Add that on top of her past with her adoptive mom and I can see why she's doing this. But all of this... it can be undone. I believe in her." Kara said, repeating the line she had kept with her over the years.
Maggie and Mon-El didn't jump to agree with Kara. Though someone else did.
"I agree with Kara," James said. Alex frowned but didn't say anything. "Lena isn't evil. She's doing what she thinks she has to. We just have to show her there's always another choice. Lena is capable of making level headed decisions. She had orders to kill me. She didn't. I'm with Kara on believing this is more complicated than meets the eye." He said. Kara glanced at James, silently thanking him for standing with her. He just smiled and nodded slightly.
J'onn nodded thoughtfully. "Perhaps we should continue this at a later date. I'm sure you're all eager to rest up and take care of your injuries. I'll brief the Gods on what happened today and we'll reconvene after we've all had time to absorb everything." He said. Kara nodded gratefully, standing abruptly and leaving J'onn's office, not waiting for anyone to follow her. James sighed.
"I'll go talk to her." He said as Alex was struggling to get out of the chair, having to rely on Maggie. She wasn't used to being incapacitated.
"Stupid leg. It's just a fucking cut." She muttered under her breath.

Kara wandered around campus, trying to lend a hand to Apollo’s kids where she could. Carrying the wounded over to their makeshift med tent to get looked at. She had to busy herself. She knew her brain would explode if she allowed herself to really think about what happened.
A hand grabbed her bicep suddenly and Kara stopped and looked up. “James.” She said. Her friend gave her a small smile.
“Do you want to talk about it?” He asked, though they both knew the it he was referring to was Lena. Kara shook her head.
“No. What is there to talk about?” She asked, wrenching her arm out of his grip and continuing her search for any injured classmates. James just followed her.
“There’s a lot to talk about Kara. You still love her. And I think she still loves you, somewhere.” He tried. Kara just shrugged.
“I know. And I’ll always stand up for her James, you know that. But if I let myself dwell on it, I’m going to go insane.” Kara said softly. James again reached out to stop Kara in her tracks.
“You don’t have to dwell on it, but keeping your feelings bottled up like this isn’t healthy either.” He implored. “I’m on your side, Kara. I want her back as much as you do. And I think you’re right that she can be saved. We just can’t give up on her.”
“Alex sure seems to not share that sentiment,” Kara said bitterly. James sighed.
“She’s your sister Kara. She’s just trying to do what she can to protect you. She can’t erase the past. But she wants to protect you from getting your heart hurt again. She thinks that Lena is a threat, and she is. I think we all need to acknowledge that. She can be dangerous.” James said, sticking up for Alex’s behavior. Kara sighed.
“I know she is. I just… I hate being caught between the two. I love Lena. And as much time that has passed since we were last on friendly terms, my feelings still haven’t diminished. But I also love Alex and I get she’s trying to do what she thinks is best. But don’t you think I should be able to choose what is best for me?” Kara asked. James nodded quickly.
“You should. But if it were Mon-El and he was pining over someone who was our enemy, wouldn’t you want to try to convince him to let it go? She’s your older sister and she’s looked after you for a long time.” James reasoned. Kara sighed and nodded.
“I should go talk to her. Apologize.”
“There isn’t anything for you to apologize for Kara. But you probably should go talk to her. You two have been tense ever since you came back from that quest. Even though I didn’t know why until now, it’s been obvious. And it probably hurts her as much as it hurts you.” He said.
“Do you know where she is?” Kara asked. James shrugged.
“She’s probably with Maggie. But your guess is as good as mine as to where they are.” He replied. Kara nodded.
“I’ll go look for them. There’s probably stuff we should talk about.”
III.
It didn’t take too long for Kara to find the pair. They had gone to Maggie’s room in the Nike building. Alex still had her own room in Athena’s dorms, but Maggie’s room was on the ground floor, whereas Alex’s room was on the second. So it made more sense for them to go there, rather than try to get Alex on the second floor with her leg. Kara knocked softly on Maggie’s door, waiting until her sister’s girlfriend opened the door. “Hey, Kara.” She said with a smile, opening the door a little wider. Kara stepped into the room to see Alex laying on the bed, her leg propped up.
“Kara,” Alex said, struggling to sit up. Maggie went over to help her, gingerly moving her leg into a more comfortable position. Kara smiled sadly at her sister’s injury before looking at Maggie.
“Do you think you could give us a few minutes alone?” She asked. Maggie looked at Alex who nodded.
“Yeah, don’t have too much fun without me.” Maggie teased before leaving the two sisters alone. Kara sat down on the bed next to Alex.
“Does it hurt?” Kara asked. Alex shrugged.
“As much as a cut that deep would. I’ve got to give it to Lena, she’s got some sharp swords to have cut through my armor and into my leg. Got a really good slice in there.” Alex said begrudgingly.
“I’m sorry about earlier.” Kara started. “I… I know you’re just trying to look out for me. And I guess sometimes I let my feelings for Lena get the better of me.” Kara admitted. Alex stayed silent, waiting for her sister to continue. “I just… I promised her that I would never give up on her. I would always believe in her. Maybe I just don’t want to let go of the person I know she can be.” Alex gave Kara a sympathetic look, rubbing her sister’s shoulder gently.
“I know you love her Kar. Longer than maybe even you knew. The two of you were always so close. Too close to just be simple friends. But you’re my little sister. I just don’t want to see you get your heart broken again. And maybe… Maybe I was a little angry at Lena for betraying us like that. Betraying you and your friendship. And that I couldn’t stop her. Wasn’t able to have done something to stop her.” Alex confided in her sister a little bitterly. “I’m just as angry at myself as I am at her.”
“But... “ Kara started but Alex cut her off.
“I just want you to be careful Kara. That’s all I’ve ever wanted. I want you to be happy again. But Lena is a threat to us. Whatever other side of the story there is, she is capable of killing all of us. I don’t know why she hasn’t. Maybe you’re right and she is conflicted. But I can’t just ignore a threat to my family.”
“I think she’s scared,” Kara said quietly. “Fear can make us do things we wouldn’t normally do. She was scared that the Titans were going to kill us. In her mind, I think she sacrificed herself to save us. She’s scared of what the Gods will do to her. My father isn’t the most… compassionate person. I’d be fearful too if I was her. Especially after she’s been… swayed by the Titans for so long,” Kara admitted. “I don’t know and don’t want to know the details, but Lena’s dad isn’t kind either. I’m sure he’s…” Kara choked up a little bit. “She’s not the same person we all used to be friends with. She’s colder, more brutal. I know that. But I can’t help but believe that the old her is still in there. But two years is a long time.” Kara said. Alex nodded slightly.
“I don’t know what to tell you, Kara. Just… I’m sorry too. I’ve been hard on you over the last couple of years. Maggie keeps telling me to patch things up between us. And I haven’t been there for you like I should have been. You were hurting and all I did was make it worse.” Alex said. “I still don’t trust Lena. And I don’t know if I ever will again, but I don’t want to contribute to hurting you either.”
Kara had tears welling up in her eyes as she leaned over to hug her sister, mindful of her leg injury. “I just want my sister back.” She whispered into Alex’s ear. Alex wrapped her own arms around Kara.
“And I’ll be here for you. Always.”
Hello! New chapter from Superfriends! This story is certainly Lena centric as I've said, but it's still important to take a look at how our favorite demigods are doing.
So one of the things that was unintentional on my part was making Alex so hostile. When you're a writer, sometimes the dialogue and story writes itself and goes places that you didn't intend. This was one of them. I feel as though I've almost made Lena/Kara's relationship more important than Alex&Kara, which I definitely don't want. It is one of the things that I hate in canon, the diminishment of Alex&Kara's relationship. She doesn't trust Lena. And I think she has a good reason as to why. But in being so hostile to Lena behind closed doors over the last two years, it, in turn, has put her at odds with Kara. And I want to start patching that up. Hence the end of this chapter. Things aren't all hunky dory between them after one conversation. But it's the first time they've really aired some of their grievances, except briefly in chapter 2.
Beyond that though, next chapter we'll get a bit more of Lena, maybe some Roulette thrown in as well.
Also, 2x21 promo? This Lena/Mon-El arranged marriage thing makes me cringe. I'm usually one to reserve judgment on an episode based on spoilers/promos because they're usually taken out of context and sometimes they work out given the context surrounding them. But Supergirl so far this season has really just disappointed me. Good thing Cat Grant will be back though I suppose. One silver lining in all of this.
