Life Is Better At the Beach: A Worthwhile Time Spent in Kapuluan Vista Resort
Have you ever thought about where you want to spend your retirement someday? Well, after staying in Kapuluan Vista Resort, I think I found the place.
This is the first time that I did a DIY kind of itinerary, a semi-backpacker trip for us. It was a bit challenging, all the research, inquiries, phone calls, and up to bank deposits were so stressful. Anyway, thank God I managed to settle all the necessary stuff a month before our trip. And voila! Ilocos Region here we come.
I reserved a 2-night stay in the resort but unfortunately we got stranded in Laoag after our arrival in Laoag Intl Airport due to lack of buses going to Pagudpud. So we decided to stay overnight in Laoag and take the earliest bus schedule bound to Pagudpud.
We arrived in Kapuluan Vista Resort on August 11, 2014 (Monday) at 8AM. The receptionist welcomed us with a board in their lobby with my name on it.
But my name’s MISPELLED as always. :(
We stayed in the lobby while waiting for the housekeeper to assist us in our room.
Our room is a non-aircon dormitory room for 2pax with communal comfort rooms. (This is cheapest type of room they have 650php/night for 2pax.)
The dormitory-type room for 6pax and restrooms are located at the right side and the standard rooms for 2pax are at the left side of this area.
There are some patches on the wall but that’s not a big deal for me. I really don’t expect a lot for a 650php accommodation. The cool thing about this room is the smell. OMG. The room smells like a spa. The kind of smell when you walked into a spa room. Very relaxing.
After we put our bags in the room, we immediately headed towards the lobby to meet our tricycle driver (whom I hired when we got in Pagudpud) to start our South Loop Tour.
When we got into the lobby we were stopped by the receptionist and asked us if we still want to avail the free complimentary breakfast. We said yes and told Kua Raul to wait for us. Who will ignore a free breakfast by the way?! :P
We walked into their restaurant and suddenly I fell in love with interior design. Look.
(Plus the herbaceous scent is everywhere.)
(This quote is just so sweet. <3 )
(Elegant hammock chairs)
All the dining tables have flowers on top of them.
They offer set-meals for breakfast. I ordered longganisa and Glenn ordered hotdogs. All their meals are served with rice (fried or plain), egg (sunny-side up or scrambled) and drinks (Milo, brewed coffee or mixed herb tea)
The Ilocos Longganisa tastes really good, I like its texture. I asked Glenn if the TJ hotdogs in Ilocos tastes good and he just laughed.hahaha. :P
After we had our meal we headed back into the lobby and met Kuya Raul and we left the resort for a while to see the tourist spots in Pagudpud. (I’ll post our adventure in my next post.)
We’re back at the resort at 4:16PM and hey, they corrected the spelling of my name posted on their board.hahaha
We just changed our clothes and get ready for our surfing lesson. (We are so excited with this one. It’s our firs time to surf.
Across the road they have a shed going to the beachfront. (Sorry, I forgot to take a photo of it.)
At the shore Kuya Sherwin and Kuya Lando were waiting for us. They taught us the basics in surfing and after a couple of “do this, do that, twist it, just bend” we headed towards the sea to start the real surfing.
I was a bit nervous trying because I don’t know how to swim, but Kuya Sherwin assured me that I don’t have to worry coz the water in the area where we will start to surf is not deep even if it’s too far from the shore. First, they teach us to paddle and to balance while on the surf board and then we waited for some waves. I am really amazed how they know the kind of waves and where their coming. In my own understanding, there are only two kinds of waves, the small ones and the gigantic ones. HAHAHAHA!!!
After some trials, I managed to stand on the board. HOOORAAAY! It was an achievement. I’m so proud of myself. Here are some of our photos. (We needed to step out of the water to take some photos of each of us, surfing.)
Yeah, we did it. We managed to stand up on the surfboard. Not bad for first-timers. Thanks to our awesome instructors. :) We had a great time!
It’s almost 6PM when we finished the lesson. We went back to our room to take our first shower. Haha. After 2 hours we immediately went to the restaurant and tried their local menu.
I ordered their Dinakdakan coz I haven’t tasted one and Glenn ordered Fish Sinigang with Red Spinach and Watermelon Shake.
Dinakdakan (250php)
Sinigang with Red Spinach (225php)
Watermelon Shake (60php)
The Dinakdakan is really a must-eat here in Kapuluan Vista especially when you mix the basil in the dish. Perfect. ( I really love their basil, it’s not the typical basil you see in supermarkets, they are just so fresh.) Glenn likes the Sinigang coz of it’s not too sour for his taste buds and the fish is boneless.
Around 9PM we walked into the lounge in the beachfront and just spent an hour, chilling in the hammock and chit-chating while the sound of the waves crashing to the shore became our playlist. It was so relaxing. I felt like I can sleep there overnight.
Because of all the activities we tried within just a day, we really felt tired and sleepy, so we went back to our room and hit our beds. Safe and sound.
The next day, after 6 hours of sleep, we woke up early to wait for the sun to rise. We stayed at the beachfront lounge until 7:30AM.
Unfortunately it’s a bit cloudy that they so I didn't have a good shot of the sunrise.
After some photo ops along the beach, we go back to the restaurant for our breakfast. This time, we had Dried Fish and Longganisa.
( As per their staff, the Dried Fish are from Laoag Public Market.)
And again, their meals are just sooo delicious. Glenn told me that the ambiance really adds a relaxing treat while we eat. Which I found sooo true. Plus again, the herbs smell.
It’s our last day in the resort so after we had our breakfast we spared a couple of minutes to visit their garden. FYI the herbs they use in their dishes are all grown here. How amazing is that huh? That explains why their herbs are so fresh.
Are these native chickens?
A few meters away from this area is the massage nipa hut. It is located at the middle of the rooms at the end of the walkway.
It’s so inviting? Isn’t it?
As soon as we’re done packing we headed back to the lobby for check out. While waiting for the housekeeper to arrive. I got the time to play with Jesscia and Julia (the owners’ dogs) they are so cute and adorable. They even sent us outside before we get in to our service.
We really enjoyed our stay here, if only I don’t have reservations in Vigan, we probably stayed here until our last day in Ilocos Region. Mouth-watering food, cozy place, and good people. You had it all. I’ll be back. Promise. I’ll bring my whole family here.
P.S.
If you read this post up to this last page, then you enjoyed the place even if it’s just in photos. :) So go now and book a room with them.
