Fifth Blog Post
The artist that I am researching is Twiggy Boyer. Twiggy Boyer was born and raised in Paris, France. Twiggy Boyer is known for her nostalgic mixed media collages often created using vintage found photographs. Twiggy’s works are themes of nostalgia, memories and connections and incorporate collage elements, drawing and painting. Twiggy graduated with a BFA in 2012 at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. Twiggy has achieved so many achievements like being part of a number of group exhibitions, having permanent works collected in the Doug & Laurie Kanyer Art Collection, co-founding Photo Trouvee Magazine, and being a teaching artist in the Museum of Education. Twiggy is currently living in South Florida with her daughter and partner. Her series is called Fragments & Houses which gives narratives to vintage images. The women in her series hold emotions and feelings. The landscapes are subtle yet ethereal like waking up from a dream or attempting to remember a memory from childhood. Twiggy explores her own recollections and experiences that similarity relate to another person’s. She uses memories from other people to help her mold them into her own as well as create new ones for people to borrow. I really enjoy that perspective because I love relating myself to one’s work and hoping that people would understand and go through something similar as me. I think it is really interesting to borrow someone’s memories to create your own memory and then have other people borrow from what you made from the memories you borrowed and your memories. One of the artworks called Portal really catches my attention because the butterfly is looking into a different dimension that could be a memory or somewhere new to explore. I love the idea of a portal because you are always flying into different memories and feeling as they were at that time. I really love the collages and the different textures that Twiggy has to bring in her series.

Kanye’s James Brown moment: “Sold Brother No. 1“
Just another Trump Nixon repeat because history is repeating itself.
James Brown endorsed Hubert Humphrey in the 1968 Presidential election. As a result, he was called an Uncle Tom by many; the Black Panthers dismissed him as a capitalist and as “Sold Brother No. 1”.
In 1972, James Brown endorsed Richard Nixon even though, just before the two men had their photo op meeting, Nixon told an aide: “No, no, no, no. No more black stuff. No more blacks from now on, just don’t bring ’em in here.”
— Lee Ballinger, Cuepoint
Karma for Kanye  #BoycottKanye
Brown’s fortunes took a turn for the worse through his ties to Nixon, an association that damaged his standing with many of his black fans. He went from being the man who’d sold a million tickets at the Harlem Apollo in 1969 to someone who had debts totaling $5m by 1978.
— The Guardian
The decision led to a boycott of his performances and, according to Brown, cost him a big portion of his black audience.
He faced problems with the IRS for failure to pay back taxes.
He had served two-and-a-half years of two concurrent six-year sentences for aggravated assault and other felonies.

Taylor Alison Swift was born in the album 1989 on a Christmas tree farm. She was raised by those Christmas trees, her mom, and a careless father. For two decades she was commanded by an army of Christmas trees and Tim Mcgraw to speak with a southern accent against her will. For the latter half of those 20 years, the same forces made her date a Jonas brother and a werewolf. She was both homeschooled and terribly unpopular. She cried on her guitar so much it ruined it and a Christmas tree had to go to the Music Emporium one year to buy her a new one. Every weekend, Tim McGraw drove her to open mics in Nashville or "Home of the Nash" as it's known by the locals. When she was fifteen, somebody told her they loved her and she was gonna believe them. That was Emily her fiddler who was *swift*ly fired. This was when she really broke out. She savagely murdered Shania Twain and Faith Hill to become the country music Highlander but that wasn't enough to satiate her bloodlust. Luckily trophies seemed sooth her and the music industry started feeding her a daily diet of them. To show she was pleased, Taylor Allison Swift would smile hugely, feigning surprise, and bringing her hand to her mouth as if to say "WHO ME? FEED MEEE TROPHIES?!" And the people were safe. Kanye came around (he's the gun in the first act that's FOR SURE gonna go off in the third) and tried to direct the focus of everyone back on Beyonce but the Taylor Whale could not be stopped and he was swallowed up in it like a biblical Jonah. The Beyonce beast continued to conquer with or without Kanye's help. It was fine. People love Beyonce. Taylor constantly complained about how Kanye West made her stomach hurt after she swallowed him. It made people uncomfortable. The nation was caught up in Glee fever after Fox so smartly paired the musical show for gay nerds with the Super Bowl in February of 2011. (HOW ARE WE ONLY AT 2011 ASKED THE READER). Taylor Swift, as a member of the very nation mentioned, was not immune to this Glee epidemic and plucked a plucky Dianna Agron (Quinn Fabray) to be her girlfriend. The two broke up after receiving the third deGlee from the press. She wrote songs about it. And also songs about John Mayer to throw people off. None of these songs were worse than Your Body Is a Wonderland. Then Katy Perry got weird and One Direction sent Harry Stylez to Taylor's house so he could have a girlfriend and a warm meal. Unbeknownst to everyone, except that it was broadcast on TV and everyone saw it, Taylor met Karlie Kloss at the Victoria Secret Fashion Show and she pulled a Leonardo (or maybe his brother Donatello?) Dicarprio and took Karlie as a sweetheart. Kloss would later become a Kushner's bride for a business reason and it would be a sad day for everyone. BEFORE THAT HAPPENED, though, the two turned into blurry blobs who kissed in Terminal 5 and they were in Vogue together for some reason. Also they took a trip to Big Sur which Taylor proceeded to reference in a million songs on the Reptartation album. Member Kanyer? Taylor complained about him too much and his wife, Kim Kardashian, hit a detonation buttom which cause Kanye to explode out of Taylor's stomach in a dazzling show of pyrotechnics and raining snakes. Taylor was exploded. The snakes built a fire to just keep her warm. They were gorgeous. they made her record a new album whether or not she was ready for it and they delivered the master tracks to BMG's fancy music studio office in a getaway car. The snakes were terrible Yes-Men and because of that Reptartation was not nominated for any Grammies: The Grandmas of Music. Taylor Alison Swift, never a big sports fan, decided to turn every football stadium in amercia, austrailia, and Tokyo into a Taylor Themed Disneyland and sold out her tour. Sarah Kennedy bought a hoodie and a patch to prove she was there. Taylor decided to star in Cat's. She's going to be in Cat's. CAT'S, YOU GUYS!. Today she turns 29 and my god, if this is the life she led so far, I can't wait for the next 273 years she's alive after she figures out how to beat death (maybe that Highlander thing already did it for her?) but ultimately becomes bored with immortality and chooses to pass over at 302 years-old. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TAYLOR!

FROM KOLAJ 27
Build a Story, Piece by Piece
An article in Kolaj #27 reflects on the role of art collectors in light of the recently announced, collage-focused Doug + Laurie Kanyer Art Collection. "We've been collecting art since 1978 and doing cultural work through patronage and providing financial support for twenty-years,” said Kanyer. “A collection was the next way we could offer help to elevate collage and put some sales in the hands of artists.” MORE
