Morofushi Takaaki is always late.
He was late when he returned home one morning 22 years ago after an overnight trip and discovered his parents’ bloody bodies. They were brutally killed while he was elsewhere enjoying his evening, completely oblivious. They died half a day ago, the police said. He was half a day late when he found them.
He was late when he came to Aoi-san’s house on her birthday 3 years ago to find a painting burning in the backyard. As he came closer to take a look, he realized it’s probably set on fire just a few moments ago – he could tell that the paint hadn’t dried, and that it was an intricate portrait of Aoi-san. It’s most certainly Shuusaku-san’s work. But why is there a burning portrait of Aoi-san in the backyard? He rang the house’s doorbell and was greeted by Akashi Shuusaku who was a weeping mess. Aoi-san passed away from a heart attack half a day ago, Shuusaku-san said. He was half a day late when he found her.
.
Takaaki was speeding down the streets, chasing the suspect Yamato Kansuke went missing trying to go after. He’s finally found the most vital clue to Kansuke-kun’s whereabouts, and he’s not going to be late this time.
#detective conan#drabble#I think?#morofushi takaaki#yamato kansuke#written half a year ago in a haze... probably#It's not clarified if Takaaki came to Aoi's house for her birthday but he did see the newly set on fire painting#so it's unlikely he was there because Shuusaku reported a death to the police#the idea is Aoi's death and his parents' death were interestingly both “half a day ago”

A random au Drabble I made I call Plush Heart. Feel free to look.
~~~
If you were to bring someone back to life, what cost are you willing to pay?
Logically, it’s impossible to bring someone back, the dead would always stay dead. Once a heart stops beating forever, there’s no going back.
At least, that was what Hiromitsu thought.
The PSB agent gasped, coughing and hacking until he forced his chest to learn how to breathe again. His vision swayed back into focus, revealing to him the rooftop where he took his life, the only difference being the warm glow of the sun shining down in orange hues.
The first thing Hiromitsu registered was his heart, beating and working like he didn’t just shoot through it, yet it didn’t make sense. He was dead, he should be dead. So what was this? He looked down, the bullet hole was still on his coat, he did shoot himself. Swallowing his hesitation though he’s unsure of what he’s hesitating for, Hiromitsu removed his coat and unbuttoned his shirt, his eyes widening at what laid before him.
Instead of a wound or at the very least a scar, right on his chest where he shot himself was a red heart, it almost looked like a tattoo were it not for the fact that it was made of fabric. Hiromitsu gave it a small poke, bracing himself for any sort of pain but to his surprise, the fabric just felt like regular skin to him, if with a different texture.
He feels around it experimentally, taking note of the lack of seams around the edges. It felt, weird, odd yet right and foreign all the same. The fabric pulses ever so softly to the beat of his own heart.
It was then that it dawned onto Hiromitsu that he was alive, he was actually alive. Living, breathing, heart beating… He could feel the concrete beneath him, hear the birds chirp, watch as the clouds pass by.
“I…” Hiromitsu said, stunned upon hearing his voice again, coarse yet audible. “I’m alive?… This shouldn’t be possible… But I’m alive! I’m ali- WOAH!!”
Hiromitsu yelps as he fell back down due to standing up too fast, his legs feeling like jello. He groans, his body aching from the impact of the fall before slowly getting back up again. Everything feels so real, and Hiromitsu was afraid that it might all be some elaborate, cruel illusion.
However, his fears were put to rest when he hears the door to the rooftop open. Hiromitsu flinches violently, scrambling up to get into a defensive position only to pause when the person who came up was not a Black Organisation agent but instead an old woman. She frowns a bit, “Oh young man, what are you doing up here?”
“You- you can see me?” Hiromitsu gaps, subconsciously buttoning up his shirt in the process. The old woman cackles, “I may be old but I can still see things as clear as day.”
Hiromitsu blinked back tears, letting out a soft laugh before reassuring the concerned kind woman that he’s fine, just relieved. It doesn’t feel real but there’s no doubt in his mind now, he’s alive.
He lets the kind old lady take him down the rooftop before reassuring her again that he’s alright, no calling the police isn’t needed but thank you anyways. However, he did ask if he could use the phone to call someone to which the old woman agreed and he will forever be grateful to her for her kindness and generosity.
Hiromitsu took a deep, shaky breath, he doesn’t know how long he had been dead for, it could be years and things change in shorter timespans. Still, he needs to try his luck and reconnect with his close friends before proceeding on with everything else and maybe while he’s at it, his older brother too. He briefly wonders if Taka’aki-nii knew that he had died or not but shakes it off, not wanting to think such thoughts.
So, he first called Zero but to his dismay, the number was out of service. He kinda figured but it still stung nonetheless. He tried again, this time with Kazami’s number and this time, the line connected.
“Hello? Who is this?”
“Kazami-San! It’s me, Hiromitsu!” Hiromitsu exclaimed, grabbing the area above his heart with his free hand, “Can you get Zero- I mean Rei on the phone? Please!”
“M- Morofushi-san?! No, you’re dead!” Kazami protested to which Hiromitsu pleaded, “Please, it’s really me! Remember when I helped you sort out the storage room?”
“How did you- Morofushi-san?..” Kazami gasped in disbelief as Hiromitsu nods fervently, “Yes! I don’t know how I’m alive, but I’m at the building where I- well you know.. Can you take me to Zero?”
“I- Furuya-san is currently undercover. I can call for him while I send someone to pick you up.” Kazami said, his voice still full of disbelief but Hiromitsu doesn’t care, he’ll take what he can get, “Yes, that’s absolutely fine! And I swear, I can prove it to you that it’s me once I get there, I’m not an imposter! I promise!”
“I mean, you did mention helping me in the storage room and not many would know that.” Hiromitsu overheard Kazami mutter before he exclaims, “A-anyway! If you really aren’t Hiromitsu and this is all some elaborate prank, I swear I will find you and I will torture you so much you will not be able to even recognise yourself once I’m satisfied!”
“I understand.” Hiromitsu says, sweat-dropping yet undeterred before he gives the address and says his goodbyes. With that call done, Hiromitsu exhaled a big sigh of relief, that was one thing down, one other to go… He absentmindedly massaged the patched heart under his shirt, the dull phantom pain of the bullet pulsing with every heart beat. He has to call his brother, Taka’aki deserves at least to know that he’s still alive. He doesn’t want to even think if he had discovered that he had died, his brother was always smart but he cares so much. He really doesn’t want to think of how his death could have hurt him.
So, swallowing his worries and fears, Hiromitsu steeled his resolve, dialled in the third number and waited. Each second stretched out for an eternity which only made his worry and anxiety climb higher than the Tokyo tower and by the time the call connected…. All he got was a voice mail;
“This is Morofushi Taka’aki, if you need anything, please leave a message.”
Hiromitsu sighs in disappointment but at the very least, he can contact his brother, that’s something. With a tearful, wobbly smile, Hiromitsu says, “Hey Taka’aki-nii! It’s been a while, but it’s me, Hiromitsu!! I’m sorry I disappeared for so long, I really wish I could explain it but I think it’s better that we meet face to face. I’ll call you again so that we can talk and arrange things to catch up! I really miss you Taka’aki-nii, I promise I will explain everything when we meet up! Take care, I love you!”
As Hiromitsu finished his message, Taka’aki’s phone lit up, catching the investigator’s attention. He frowned upon hearing the voicemail, unable to hold back his suspicions. Was this really true? It’s hard to say, he hasn’t really interacted with Hiromitsu for a long while and even if it really is him, it wasn’t like he could ask Taka’aki to confirm it.
Kansuke gritted his teeth in anger, glaring daggers at the plush doll left behind in the bedroom, the only thing out of place and as of now, their only evidence to Taka’aki’s disappearance. The fact that it resembles the missing man down to the smallest detail only irks him more, almost like it was taunting him.
“Where the hell are you Koumei?”
Hi it’s me the Drabble Anon again didn’t mean to hurt ya so here’s another drabble hope you like it I’m sorry have a good day:
Taka’aki sighs as he exits from his car, rubbing his tired eyes. The case he had been tackling was both exhausting and tedious and he might have skipped a few hours of rest in the process but finally, he was home. His father would have chided him for staying up so late, he always ensured that he and Hiromitsu get proper rest and his mother would make the best tea for sleep. He wished that he asked for how to make that tea from her sooner…
A sudden meow interrupted his train of thought and Taka’aki looks down, blinking in surprise upon seeing a white cat at his doorstep, curled up on his welcome mat. The cat had black patches around it’s face, the little lines above it’s mouth almost resembles a moustache. It reminds Taka’aki of Zhuge Liang, much to his amusement.
“I apologise, did I wake you?” Taka’aki asked, taking note of the cat’s wet fur before looking back at the heavy rain that’s still pouring down since the last hour. It was easy to deduce why the cat is here and Taka’aki knew he can’t leave the poor cat out soaking wet.
“It must be cold for you... I have something that can dry you off.” Taka’aki says as he unlocks the door and steps inside, making sure the cat followed in the process. He makes a mental note to mop the floor as he follows the small wet paw prints the cat leaves behind as it wanders in. Removing his shoes, Taka’aki heads straight for his linen closet to get a towel only to stop when he noticed the door to the closet was open. Odd, he always keeps his doors closed but before he could ponder on if he forgot, one of the stacks of towels suddenly tipped over, dropping into a heap on the floor. That caught Taka’aki’s attention as he steps over and examines the closet to see if there was anything that could have tipped the towels over but there wasn’t anything, not even a mouse. How odd…
Taka’aki feels the cat’s wet tail brushed against his legs and he quickly refocused back on the cat. “Ah, my apologies little one. Here, this should clean you up.”
The cat was strangely compliant as Taka’aki dries it up with the towel, maybe it knew that he was trying to help. Taka’aki made sure to be gentle as possible, remembering how his dear friend Aoi would teach him when he offered to help her clean her cats. He absentmindedly chuckled as he recalled how Kansuke’s shirt was shredded by those very cats.
“There we go, that should be better now.” Taka’aki says as he finishes drying up the cat, watching it meow in appreciation before circling around him and wandering to the dining room. Taka’aki follows its movement and that’s when he noticed a cup on the table alongside a piece of paper and a pen. Cautious, Taka’aki takes the cup first, examining its contents and instantly, he’s hit with a wave of nostalgia.
This tea… it’s the same as the one his mother would make, but how?.. No, he can’t drink it, it might be poisonous and yet… As Taka’aki notices the open cupboards of his kitchen with various things shifted and a few even knocked over, he can’t help but feel like that’s not the case. Something in his mind tells him that it isn’t.
Still, he needs to be sure so Taka’aki turns to go to his study room and get something to test the tea for poison but a glance at the paper gave him pause. There was a note in the paper, written in a crude and shaky manner yet Taka’aki immediately recognised that handwriting, even after all this time, how could he ever forget his brother’s handwriting? Slowly taking the note, he reads what it says out loud; “‘We’re okay, don’t worry Taka’aki-nii. We love you and we’re here for you. - Hiro, Dad, Mom, Aoi’.”
Warmth fluttered in his heart and it took a moment for Taka’aki to register the tears rolling down his cheeks. When was the last time he shed these tears of happiness?
His thoughts were interrupted when he hears the sound of the pen dropping and his eyes widen as he sees the pen rise into the air and fall, almost like someone is struggling to pick it up. Normally people would scream or question it but somehow, Taka’aki could tell who it was, it would certainly explain the toppled towels and the tea.
“It’s alright, I’m fine.” Taka’aki reassured to no one but he knew that they were listening. He quickly wiped away his tears and smiled, “Thank you for the tea, you all must have taken a lot of effort to make it and write the note for me.”
The cat leapt onto his lap as a faint, ethereal warmth enveloped his body like a hug. As Taka’aki sips the tea, savouring the nostalgic taste he never thought he would have again, his heart sings knowing that he’s not as alone as he thought.
Ok, first and foremost, I’m sorry, I completely forgot that I haven’t answered this, goldfish memory as my friend used to say.
But I have to. Oh my god. LIKE. Christ this HURTS and I love how you keep hurting me but in the nicest way in a way that yes im suffering but Komei got some happiness in his life in the limited way that he can.
LIKE I JUST. THE WAY HE KEEPS REMEMBERING HIS FAMILY, HOW THEY WOULD REACT, WHAT THEY WILL SAY AND WHAT THEY WILL DO??/? I’m always so sad that we barely get any background story of Morofushi family. The fact that Taka’aki had to see his young, extremely traumatized little brother separated from him just because of what? Money? Necessity? They can’t handle two kids so they just separate— WELL YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!!
ALSO AAAAAAAAAAAH KOMEI CAT MENTION!!! HE GOT A CAT THAT LOOKS LIKE HIM IM GOING TO CRY???? U know how cat adopts their humans well now Taka’aki has a new cat im sorry i dont make the rules its his now.
And now…
SKREEEE When I told u I squealed when THEY started appearing…
Like, you know those are some strong poltergeist, but if I knew it was someone that I love, i’d live with the ghost ngl.
IT’S JUST. THE FACT THAT. HIS FAMILY IS TRYING SO HARD TO REACH HIM AND I. Like they’re really just haunting his house huh, I wonder if Hiro can follow him, you know how guardian angels act?? Maybe he can act like that for him too look I don’t know alright im just crushed with emotions right now.
And Komei cat might be possesed too who knows i love him any way.
I’m sad and happy at the same time. Thanks anon i love u i hope you have a great day i hope your AC is working smoothly i hope your lunch today was delicious and your pillows stays cool.
{KansukexReader}
~Fluff!!! Just a random quick drabble for my favorite purple plum Kansuke. Just over 1k words. Dedicated a bit to @wingcinna lol here have this tiny bandage for your heart--because Kansuke Bliss Canon!!
It’s the way he looks. That calm manner of speech and the words—how they roll ever so slowly, toppling over each other and wafting towards you on the wind like a white, feathery plume. Bursting against your skin and tickling your cheeks until they pull themselves into a warm smile. And you think this all must be some sort of elaborate ruse. The fog will lift, surely. The clouds will dissipate and make way to rays of brilliant light, shining to reveal something previously hidden in the shadows, some intricate strings being pulled. For this man couldn’t possibly be this real. This kind.
“You have something in your hair,” Kansuke says. His deft fingers pluck at the strands just above your crown, pulling back to reveal what must have been a fallen leaf from the trees above.
“Thank you,” you smile in embarrassment, wondering just how long it must have been there. His face softens even further upon seeing your nervous blush. “Do you think we’ve gathered enough?”
He nodded. “Is it heavy?” His eyes fell to the basket, filled almost to the brim with vibrant green flora, freshly collected.
Before you could respond he was relieving it from your grasp, causing a delightful fond ache to ripple through your chest. It was hard to know exactly what you meant to him. If you meant anything at all, really. But those thoughts were best left for your sleepless nights. When your mind and heart raced with flashes of him and you tossed fitfully in your bedclothes with anxious, lovesick wonder. For now, you were content with these quiet moments of closeness. And watching the beautiful summer light break against his olive skin. And the way the breeze lifted and tousled his hair enough to reveal his handsome face in full.
You hadn’t even realized your feet slowed to an almost full stop until Kansuke called back to you, calmly as ever.
“You like them?”
A patch of Morning Glories. Bursting in brilliant violets. “Oh, yes,” you shake your head with your reply, unable to tell him the reason why. Which is that, with their color, they remind you very much of him. And you swear you see him smile briefly.
Usually, you would help him as best you could with sorting and grinding the collected herbs. But it’s close to dinner and there’s prep to be done. And every step you take back towards the castle is like a heavy stone piled onto your heart.
“Thank you for your help.”
It’s all he says before you part ways, and you can’t help but feel a bit saddened by the fact that your time together has drawn to a close. You gnaw at your bottom lip just a bit, as if you’ll go chasing after him—say something you know you shouldn’t, if you don’t actively bite it back. You watch him disappear down the hall before finally heading to the kitchen.
Rice and tea and steam from simmering vegetables. Serving trays and empty bowls. With each stir and scoop, the sun sinks closer to the horizon. And when the final pot has been cleaned and put away you find yourself alone, kneading. You’ll bring him dessert. That’s it. There’s determination and excitement swooping through you like a bird in the early morning sky, knowing that each small ball rolled between your hands is bringing you one step closer to seeing him once more. Even if the moment is fleeting.
His room seems much farther away than usual. Or perhaps it’s your nerves slowing your steps. You balance the tray in hand, careful not to spill a drop of the hot tea. A cup you’ve brewed several times over in order to ensure it was just perfect. You fill your lungs with air, and courage, poised to announce yourself when a familiar voice from behind cuts you off.
“Looking for Kansuke?”
You turn to find Saizo, mouth already half full from a manju he’s plucked straight from your tray.
“Ah-“ you’re about to scold him for taking things that don’t belong to him, but all you can manage is a mortified, “yes.”
“Who?” Yukimura asks from his side, head tilting just slightly in a look of befuddlement.
“Not here,” Saizo chews, completely ignoring Yukimura’s question as if he hadn’t heard him say anything at all. “Don’t worry, little lady, he’ll be back in a few days.” Saizo gives a knowing smirk that has you feeling all fumbling and foolish and red in the cheeks.
“Well, in that case-“
“Don’t mind if I do,” Saizo anticipates what you’re about to say, plucking the tray from your hands and popping yet another manju into his mouth.
“Hey! Don’t eat them all, yourself!”
“But they’re mine,” you hear Saizo reply curtly after you turn your back on them.
And as you leave to make your way to your room, you listen as their bickering voices fade with your smile.
It was a gamble anyway, you try to tell yourself. But there’s no shaking this crestfallen shadow that’s washed over you, weighing you down and causing your feet to drag as if you’ve been trekking up a hillside through thickly caked mud. You know what’s to come when you resign yourself to your room, but even so, you slide open the shoji and make your way inside.
However, this evening, much to your surprise you spot the futon already rolled out and prepared. This in itself is a wonder. But it’s what’s on top that has your heart stuttering and leaping up to your throat. There, as splendid as if you had been presented with precious gems sparkling their perfection at your feet, lay a modest bouquet of those violet Morning Glories. Vibrant as ever against the stark white of the bedclothes. But in truth, that’s not exactly why these seem particularly beautiful. For you know who they’re from.
Their scent lifts your spirits to the clouds, taking your love and hope and happiness with it. Kansuke. A flash of heat fills your face. There was a glimmer of an answer. Peace of mind. Tonight would be the first night in a while you’ve fallen asleep so quickly. A smile radiating, a pleasant blush on your cheeks and your eyes tightly shut, eager to bring on the next days.
35, 62, or 67 with Kansuke?? ILU
(Thank you @saizoswifey and @wingcinna for all the lovely Kansuke content that inspired this tiny drabble!)
“Take your medicine.”
It is a murmur, soft and inexorable like snow drifting. Lamplight girdling the rim of the delicate bowl he proffers, bearing a round pungent pellet. You draw a breath, and as you lose yourself in the way highlights ripple across his crow-wing hair, your mind sorts the scents effortlessly.
Ginger. Ephedra. Goji. Angelica.
“I can’t.” The bluff flutters free before you have time to consider it, wending its way between you.
A thin, taut beat. And then -
Slender hands fill your vision, holding the crude pill to your lips. “You must.”
Nothing, and you know there is nothing because you are fixated on the minutae of his face the way you always are, straining for something.
Nothing. His expression is the same, as fixed and unchanging and distant as the stars, his stare the same fathomless shade as the sky just before they appeared. Motionless, save for blinking. A calm that is almost cruel in its gentility.
On a sigh you part your lips, obedient. Eyes falling away from the disappointment of his constancy until he presses the medicine into your mouth and bitterness floods your tongue - and in the acrid wash of herbs you almost miss it.
The tip of his finger, alighting on your lip, lingering only a fraction past polite.
There’s a distant drumbeat that you can feel even through that feather-touch, as if something large and incessant marches just beneath his skin. And when your gaze flies back up towards his again, it snags on the way the edge of his collar trembles, tucked up against his throat. When you reach to catch those fingers with your own, you feel them curl into yours - hesitantly, heartbreakingly.
And then, you finally realize.
You only ever saw nothing because you were looking in the wrong place.
SLBP | Scraps
A/N - MORE CLEANING OUT OF LEE’S NOTES APP where I dumped words during NaNoWriMo just to get in the practice of stringing them together in sentences.
Sometimes, she wonders what they would be like without war.
She sits, toes in the sand, knees tucked to her chest. They’ve put the fire out—better to see the stars—and she is quietly grateful Shingen shrugged off the extra layer Kansuke insisted on, because that means it’s free to wrap around her own shoulders. She should be watching the stars, since such paints have been taken to make the sight clear, but it’s difficult to tear her gaze away from her dear ones, hazy in the moonlight that makes phantoms of their shapes.
She wants to believe it wouldn’t be so different—that they wouldn’t be so different. That there would still and always be nights like these, where Yukimura’s blurting protests overlap with the whisper-murmur of Saizo’s humor, where Shingen’s laughter rolls over the water, and the waves mix with the splash of Sasuke’s feet as he tries to convince them all it’s not that cold.
She finds their hands in the starlight, occupied with nothing. ‘Nothing’ is not their usual enterprise; their calluses carry the grip from swords and spears and shuriken. She wonders what they would hold if there was no need for violence. Quills and construction tools, books. She’s seen those held before, but always set aside. Because it’s only in her mind, she imagines kitchen crafts—knives and pestles, pots and pans. To be fair, she’s seen those too, in quick glances, and the memories make her smile, resting her chin on top of her knees.
War has forged them. There’s fire in Shingen’s chest, carried to his eyes and out across the lands he watches. Yukimura carries his in his shoulders, straight set and solid in their support. It’s in his smile too, though it takes someone who knows him well enough to find, to know that when he goes it’s with an intention that sits heavy in her heart.
If the samurai carry fire, their shadows hold embers. Saizo is banked warmth, secretive in the night, where smoke won’t carry. Kansuke is ashes, insubstantial and irrevocable, what’s been done has been done.
If you took away war, she thinks, they would still be whole.
It takes a few moments of rolling that around in her thoughts, to be convinced of it, but knowing why they fight in them—the idea that by doing so they can end them, which she is not sure she understands, but finds hope in believing so nonetheless—makes her feel it must be so. It will still be in their hands and shoulders, carried in their chest and through the night. The shape of it will be remembered in scars and stories. The hard, hollow part of her that aches for her father reminds her of its presence, and absently she grips her fingers more tightly against the fabric beneath them. Is there something sad about that? Carrying it around after it’s over?
She hears a shout as Yukimura falls—or perhaps, was pushed—into the water, and comes up spluttering. A surprised, rolling laugh from Saizo joins the boisterous belt of Shingen’s, and Sasuke falls to the ground, skinny arms tight around his stomach as his glee bubbles into almost-hiccups.
She looks up, surprised to notice Kansuke next to her, tucking the stolen layer of Shingen’s robe around her shoulders as her shifting loosens it. He smiles, briefly, before his attention returns to his liege, and the spectacle of his evening.
She lifts her head at last to the sky, and smiles. It’s not nearly as interesting, as dear to her heart. She won’t carry around the view, as sparkling and endless as it is. The sky won’t be what she remembers. Alongside the scars and the stories will be scraps of paradise under scattered starlight.
Lean On
Shingen fluff for @otomehideout-indecentconfessions I hope his helps you feel better, Darling!
Earnest eyes and a bright smile were her trademark look. She wore them where ever she went, no matter what she was doing. Today they were nowhere to be found, chased away like the sun in the sky at twilight. When a smile did find its way to her face, it was forced at best. Painfully fake to anyone who really knew her. No today she was simply going through the motions, a part of the world and yet completely absent from it. How else could he stalk her around the palace all day without her noticing his persistent eyes on her.
What could have happened to steal the smile from her face? Although the thought crossed his mind constantly, he had been too busy ask her about it yet. He figured, whatever it was, she just needed some time to think it through. Whenever he needed to think things through he went to the toilets to read… He then pondered what she did when she needed to think through something.
“Isn’t obvious?” Kansuke commented from the shadow filled corner of Shingen’s study. His comment seemed as if he had read Shingen’s mind, an uncanny habit of his. “She cooks… that’s how she deals with everything.” Shingen chuckled and nodded. He set about finishing the letter he had started before Kansuke arrived.
“You’re probably right. I’m sure if something is really bothering her, she’ll come to me in time.”
“However…” His brush stopped when he heard that word. His questioning gaze met Kansuke’s eyes once again. “Even cooking doesn’t seem to be giving her solace today.”
“I see…” Shingen sat his brush down and got to his feet. “Get my horse ready.” A ghost of a smile, hidden by a bow, graced Kansuke’s impassive face as Shingen strode out of the room. The Lord Takeda roamed the halls with mechanical efficiency seeking her out in all her usual haunts. And yet, his prey eluded him. At last, he found her staring blankly into space in the middle of hanging laundry. Hands hovering over the cloth on the line unmoving for no visible reason.
Without a word, Shingen took her hands from behind. She gasped in shock as she found herself once again a part of the world. “Oh! Lord Shingen!” She painted on that fake smile for him as he spun her around. His eyes narrowed as the knowledge she was trying to hide her feelings from him caused a tightness in his chest he didn’t like. “Is… is something wrong?” She reached the back of her hand up to touch his forehead. “Are you feeling all right?” How very typical of her to put everyone else before herself…
“I’m fine. You’re the one who isn’t all right.” He replied scooping her up into his strong arms. He carried past all manner of retainers and their questioning stares. Still he said nothing. No matter how many times she asked where they were going or what he was doing.
Kansuke was waiting at the stables with Shingen’s great black mare and an overcoat. Shingen smiled slightly at the sight, Kansuke knew him well. Shingen wrapped her in the overcoat still ignoring her questioning look. He seated her in front of him on Kurokumo and rode out of the castle gates. They rode well into the mountains until they came to a great waterfall.
“This is where I come when I need to be alone.” He finally said after tethering Kurokumo to a tree. He walked up to the edge of the lake. “I deal with things best when I’m alone.” He looked back over his shoulder at her, reaching his hand back to her. “But you don’t…” When she didn’t immediately take his hand, he sighed and came back to her. He scooped her up once more to take her to the lake. There he sat, cradling her between his legs.
Silence settled between them for a long time before Shingen broke the silence. “You don’t have to tell me what’s wrong. Just don’t hide your feelings from me. If you’re angry, be angry. If you’re sad, be sad. I’ll be here no matter what.”
“Lord Shingen…” Her voice broke under the weight of trying to keep everything in.
“I can’t give you pretty words to make you feel better. I’m not the most romantic man, I know this, but I can at least give you that much. I can give you my time, or my shoulder, what ever you need, it’s yours.” He went on as her body started to quake from her tears. He pressed her against his chest with one hand as he combed the other through her hair. There they sat until the moon greeted them in the sky and the sound of the water drowned out her sobbing. He didn’t say a word, didn’t push her. He just waited for her to tell him when she was ready.
“Thank you, Lord Shingen…”
“For what?” He smiled down at her warmly. “I’m just returning the favor.” She looked confused as he kissed her forehead softly. “Have you not supported me through everything?”
“I would hardly…” A finger pressed to her lips hushed her voice hoarse from crying.
“I’m going to let you in on a secret.” A smile filled with genuine warmth accompanied his hushed whisper. “The strongest person in the Takeda clan isn’t me.” His smile broadened as confusion knit her brows together. He leaned down close to her face, lips a hair’s breadth apart. “It’s you…” He sealed his declaration with a kiss to stifle the protests he knew she’d have. He pulled away once he felt her relax in his arms.
“Even the strongest people need to be supported from time to time.” She whispered looking away from him.
“You taught me that… I’m glad you’re finally listening to your own good advice.” Shingen chuckled as he ruffled her hair gently. He left his hand in her hair to soothe the mess he’d made of it.
“Lord Shingen.”
“Hm?”
“Can we stay here a little longer? The moon is beautiful tonight.” She looked up at him hopefully, it was clear in that look she still wasn’t really all right, but she seemed a little bit more herself.
“It’s not as beautiful as you.” He teased kissing her forehead again. “But we can stay for as long as you want.”
Didn’t mean to post this already, but, you know, things happened that prompted it.
The pose is from a set that you can look up here.
He just wanted to take a relaxing bath... (little drabble under the cut~)
With a sigh Taka'aki sank into the warm water. It had been a real shitty day and the perfect opportunity to use that "relaxing flower bath" that Yui had given him to his last birthday. He wasn't necessarily a fan of the rose petals – cleaning up afterwards was such a hassle – but it smelled nice and would definitely be relaxing.
The glass of red wine would probably also help with that.
He laughed while reaching out to the glass and swirling the wine around a bit, when something in the corner of his eye grabbed his attention.
"From the rose smell I would've thought it's Yui" Kansuke said, standing in the doorframe with just a towel around the hips. Taka'aki wasn't sure if he looked disappointed or amused or something else.
"Well, it was Yui who gave it to me" he replied and sipped from the wine. "Did you want to join her?"
Kansuke shrugged his shoulders with a sound that could mean whatever, but he got closer and reached out for the water.
Taking another sip, Taka'aki watched him silently. "Is the water to your liking?" he asked with a hint of amusement in his voice.
"Actually, yes."
There was a soft rustle and with raised eyebrow Taka'aki's gaze followed the towel to the ground. The eyebrow rose a bit further, when Kansuke climbed into the tub, sinking into the water with a loud "Ahhhh..."
"Did I invite you?" Taka'aki asked, his voice annoyed, but his eyes amused.
"Didn't unvite me either" Kansuke replied, not really bothered as he stretched out his legs.
Taka'aki sighed. So much for relaxing. "Well then." The water swashed against the tub as he rose to change position.
Kansuke didn't complain when he sank down between his legs, facing him.
"Time to relax." Taka'aki took a long drink, then put down the glass on the shelf to the side before leaning in to steal a kiss from rough lips.
I keep going for drabble length, but it just isn’t happening. This part in particular is much longer than what would be considered “drabble length”.
This is part 3 of who knows how many little ficlets for our beloved giant ninja boy, Nezu Jinpachi.
@saizoswifey, @otomelin, @dear-mrs-otome, @masamunesmistress, @calicocrest (If y’all still wanted me to tag you. If not, just let me know!)
TW: Blood
Also, I didn’t forget about Kansuke in one part of this ficlet. I love Kansuke, but this mc isn’t “aware” of him.
Surely there must be some mistake. It just wasn’t possible. Asayumi felt like her legs were about to fall out from under her with the shock she had just over heard.
The Sanada lost??
There had to be some mistake, some kind of misunderstanding. The Sanada were as strong a force as any of the larger clans. Lord Yukimura was the Soul of the Sanada. He wouldn’t allow his army to fail.
Gods forbid, if it were true, what of Jinpachi? Of course, he would be with Nobuyuki at the castle unless he had been directed to go to the front or on a mission for the Sanada Lord. Instinct screamed at her to return to the home she shared with him and quickly answered that feeling after closing the restaurant.
Deep in the forest, but still within view of Ueda Castle, their small home was nestled in a grove of trees and backed up to a cliff offering as much protection as they could manage. This building meant so much to them because they raised it together. She couldn’t imagine living here by herself for the rest of her life if something had happened to him.
Had he been captured? No, he was too good at his job for that to happen. Was the battle going on longer than planned and someone moved around under the cover of darkness, past the front lines to set fire to the Sanada stronghold?Possibly, but Lord Yukimura would never let that happen. Was he delayed due to injury? A possibility she didn’t want to consider, but couldn’t deny the validity of the thought. It was better than the other possible reasons for his delay. Reasons that she refused to give a voice, even if it was only in her head.
Hours passed by as she waited anxiously in their home. All her usual chores finished in record time, she went pacing back and forth over the worn tatami floor to keep herself occupied.
It was starting to get dark, so she checked outside before night consumed the house. ‘Where could he be?’ she thought to herself, squinting to see as far as she could into the gloaming just past the veranda. A soft popping sound drew her attention towards the castle where she saw an orange glow above the trees. Her stomach dropped to the ground at the sight.
Asayumi nearly jumped out of her skin when she then heard heavy rustling in the bushes next to the veranda from the side where Ueda stood burning. At first, she prepared to run, pulling out her wakizashi out to protect herself if it was one of the army who attacked the castle. One step, two steps, she slowly moved back so as not to attract unwanted attention. But when the person emerged from the foliage, dragging themselves over the wood of the veranda on bloodied hands, she stopped moving. The person was obviously grievously injured and she couldn’t help but want to help them no matter who they were.
When she drew closer after they had stopped moving, she felt a horrified gasp escape her throat when she recognized the armor over wide breadth shoulders and the black as night hair that was matted with so much blood.
“Jinpachi!” She rushed the short distance left between them and collapsed at his side, her hands hovering over his still, face-down form, unsure what to do in her panicked state of mind.
She felt little relief when his body twitched at the sound of her crying his name. Asayumi gingerly turned him over, to the best of her ability against a giant of man, to face her and she felt her hands tremble at what she saw. Never had she seen his handsome features so beaten and bruised. Blood trickled from his nose and mouth, as well as from a deep gash just inside his hairline. Swelling had already started around one of his eyes and jaw.
She didn’t even want to imagine the extent of the injuries the rest of his body had. Fear gripped her even tighter when she realized that the tang of blood was so strong that his clean, natural scent that she had always been able to pick up over other scents, was unidentifiable.
As carefully as she could, she supported him after encouraging him to stand so she could get him inside where it was safe.
Slowly but surely, Asayumi got him into the house and onto the floor so he could be safe and comfortable. She could feel hot tears at the corners of her eyes but refused to allow them to fall. He needed her to be strong right now. She could cry later when he was bandaged up and sleeping.
Though she told herself this, she had a hard time keeping her hands steady. When she got his armor, kimono, and hakama off, Asayumi had to peel the dark cloth from his flesh. Deep gashes covered his body that hadn’t been protected by his chest plate, his arms and legs covered in bleeding cuts. How fierce had the battle been that he had come back this battered? Did the enemy have their own ninja? What of the Takeda ninja, Sasuke and Saizo?
The wounds that were deeper, she bound as best she could to stop him from bleeding out. She had to stop repeatedly to make sure he was still breathing because he hadn’t moved a bit since she unintentionally allowed him to fall unceremoniously to the floor when she couldn’t hold him up any more.
"As-a-yu-mi...?”
Asayumi whipped her head up towards the voice from where she was finishing up bandaging a slash on his thigh. Hazel eyes, clouded with pain and exhaustion, looked back at her and she moved towards him.
“Thank goodness you’re awake! I was so worried for you.” She exclaimed while moving up until she could lay his head on her knees.
She gently combed her fingers through his matted hair, moving it from his battered face, feeling her eyes burn with unshed tears. He closed his eyes and let out a heavy sigh with a small smile filled with relief.
When he went still again, Asayumi felt panic fill her chest again until she saw the slow rise and fall of his chest with life.
“Thank you for coming back to me, Jinpachi. I don’t know what I would have done if something were to have happened to you.” she said as she bent forward, her hands on either side of his head to hold him steady, and pressed their foreheads together.
~*~
Days passed as she awaited on pins and needles for him to wake. She cleaned and changed his bandages regularly as well as sewed up his more severe wounds while she waited. But still he slumbered like a stone statue laid out off of its plinth.
On the fourth day of his sleep, Asayumi was woken from a doze as she knelt at his head, his head on her lap like a pillow, by the feeling of something large and cool on her cheek.
Looking down, her dark eyes were met with a lighter brown - this time with less pain and exhaustion.
Surprise came without question, but relief beyond anything she had ever felt before quickly drowned out all other emotion. Asayumi felt a tear-filled smile form on her cheeks as she covered his hand in hers and nuzzled his rough hand with her cheek.
“Are you well?” Sleep had made his already low voice even more deep and raspy, sending chills through her body. But she quickly tampered them down. Now was not the time. It was so like him to check on others before himself.
“I am, now that you are back with me once more.”
[Fanfic] SLBP - New Year’s Eve Prayers (Shingen)
I wanted to write something set in this time of the year and finally, I could. I’m planning three stories, one for each of my favourite lords, and I hope I can finish them before the holidays end. This one can also count as a very late celebration of Shingen’s birthday (I couldn’t do anything for him then). I hope you like it ^^
Title: New Year’s Eve Prayers
Genre: Fluff, Slice of life
Words: 3179 (it was going to be a drabble, but I just simply can’t write them)
Notes: Set some time after the Cherished in Love Story Event (so... possible spoilers?). There are more notes about the setting at the end, since I think they would spoil the fun a bit.
Tagging: @space-romantic (who was so lovely to check that everything made sense), @ravenhaired-mc , @chibibugeisha , @meruchan and @fscottcatsgerald
NEW YEAR’S EVE PRAYERS
Overseeing the campsite once more, Takeda Shingen turned to Sanada Yukimura, who was approaching him, his winter haori flapping after him in the cold breeze of the early hours just before the sunrise, letting him see glimpses of his half covered chest. He could not help a small smirk. It seemed that the young man's blood was hot enough to keep him warm even in the harsh weather they were having those days.
“Everything is ready, Milord,” he said, stopping in front of him, a serious expression showing in his features.
“Good. Tell the soldiers to keep an eye on the surroundings while they dismantle everything” he saw the muscles in Yukimura's neck tense slightly. “I don't expect anything to happen but a little precaution is never a bad thing.”
“Yes!”
Shingen watched him turn on his heels and walk at a brisk pace towards the group of tents where the Takeda men were and then, he followed, leading his steps to the biggest one of all, in the center of the campsite, where she was finishing getting ready.
He had planned to receive the new year in his palace, amidst the celebrations in the town below and the banquet he would hold for his retainers and soldiers. They were devoted and brave soldiers and they deserved a good rest from worries and war while basking in the luxurious delicacies and entertainment he could provide them.
However, when he had woken up just after dawn the day before, he had found himself alone in bed, and when he had gone in search of his lover, he had found her in the veranda, wrapped in a thick haori, staring mesmerized the white blanket that covered the landscape after the first snowfall of that winter, which had happened during the night. He had watched her for a while, drinking in her long disheveled hair falling down her back, how her lids blinked slowly and her pupils seemed to absorb everything in front of her; on her mouth, slightly parted, and the small puffs of breath which came from it. After a few minutes, he had come out of his hiding place behind the screen, catching her off guard, Before a greeting smile could make its way to her lips, he had caught a glimpse of a childish expression filled with amazement, so innocent and pure that he had felt the urge to see it again and engrave it in his mind forever. And that was why, in a rush, he had decided to spend the last days of the year on a trip to one of the most beautiful places in the province.
“Is she ready?” he asked a maid he found once he entered the tent, the curtain which separated the inside from the rest of the world falling just behind him.
“In a moment, Milord, one of the girls is finishing with her hairstyle,” she said, bowing.
As if on cue, there was some rustle behind the folding screen on the right side of the room and she appeared, giving her hand to one of the maids as her other one grasped her kimono, lifting it enough so she would not trip with the hem. Even wearing her simple clothes, she had a natural beauty hard for other women to match, but that grace was set off by the richness and colours of the fabrics that adorned her. He had chosen them and supervised the tailoring personally, knowing exactly how he had wanted it made. The kosode was cream coloured and it had camellia flowers scattered around the fabric, a delicate stitch in gold thread outlining their shape, and over it, a heavy dark orange uchikake embroidered with auspicious motives and tied just below her chest to keep it closed.
Her hair had been gathered under her nape with a white ribbon, unlike the fashionable styles high-raked ladies wore, probably to avoid it being blown by the cold wind which surely was stronger in their destination than there, in the safety of the forest. It hung over one of her shoulders, reaching her waist.
She bowed to him and he smiled satisfied. Then, he took her hand from the maid, squeezing it affectionately, a gesture that she returned, and gave a few slow steps toward the entrance.
“It's not that I'm ungrateful, Milord,” she whispered. “But this was too much...”
Shingen stopped and before replying, he glanced at the oldest maid, who quickly ushered the younger ones, who were trying to hide their giggles behind her sleeves, out of the tent, leaving them alone. Then, he looked at her again, slowly and appreciatively. Seeing her dressed like that, carrying herself with such elegance and distinguished demeanor, nobody would imagine her humble background, or that she still worked in the kitchens of his palace.
“It is not. You deserve much more than this, and if you let me, I'd lavish even more luxurious garments and hairpins on you...”
His free hand had tangled in her ponytail, sliding down and letting the locks slip through his fingers to almost its end, but at that moment, he closed them, bringing her tresses to his lips.
“Lord Shingen...”
He half opened his eyes, seeing hers filled with tenderness at his reverent gesture, and found himself repressing a sudden urge to take her in his arms. He would probably end up rumpling her flawless appearance and she would not be happy about that, especially with so many soldiers and servants just on the other side of the curtain waiting for them. He knew that she had been self-conscious in front of others since her status as his lover had been made public and, even though he did not care about propriety, if she were to feel uncomfortable or hurt in the slightest because of something he had done, he would never forgive himself, even if being the Lord of Kai gave him the right to do as he pleased.
He let go of her hair and smiled, taking her free hand in his.
“This is my New Year's present for you” his voice was filled with warmth and pride. “I was planning to give it to you tomorrow, but since we went on this trip, I thought it'd be a good moment for you to wear it and show them why you're the one by my side.”
She returned his smile, her eyes lighting in a way that told him that she had grasped the intention behind the gift and was thankful for his understanding and thoughtfulness.
“Then, I'm honoured to receive it, Milord.”
He nodded and then, released her, turning towards the entrance and starting to walk, sensing her a step behind.
The horses had been brought to the entrance of the tent and both of them approached Shirokumo. A page had already brought a small stool for her to step on to reach her saddle. He waited for her to adjust her posture and then, rode Kurokumo in a smooth movement, his thick cloak floating briefly behind him. After a fleeting glance to their four bodyguards, the most loyal men he had, and a nod to them, he dug his heels on the black horse's sides and the small party trotted out of the campsite.
.
The landscape changed gradually as they neared the limit of the forest; the trees were thinner and more spaced, the bushes were scarce and there were more traces of snow on the ground. In some places, it was already melting, mixing it with the soil of the path turning it into a muddy road where they had to ride carefully. Behind them, Shingen and the young woman could hear Sasuke and Saizo teasing Yukimura after his horse had jumped a small puddle only to step on a bigger one, staining the hem of his hakama, and he could not help a chuckle. As if she had read his mind, when he tilted his head to look at her, he found she was biting down a growing smile. With a big grin still showing on his lips, he pulled the reins slightly, so he could ride beside her.
“Are you cold?”
She shook her head, her smile widening.
“You took very good care to prevent that from happening, Milord” she replied, touching the fabric of her clothes lightly with her fingertips.
“I can't afford you to catch a cold just before the festivities” his grin became wider and his eyes twinkled with mischief. “Especially when having a private celebration after the banquet in mind...”
She lowered her lids slightly and glanced quickly over her shoulder, her cheeks turning a light shade of pink.
“You're terrible” she whispered. “Are you always thinking about...?”
Her blush deepened and he could not suppress a laugh.
“Well, when I'm around you I can't help it most of the time. After all, you have me wrapped around your little finger. However,” he gave her a playful tap on her leg with his knee before putting some distance between them. “I can behave when I want to.”
Shingen looked straight ahead, seeing the path out in front of him opening to a thick blanket of pure white, when her voice reached him, subdued and laced with worry.
“And you? Are you feeling fine?”
He closed his eyes briefly, just a second, to wipe the sudden sadness that he was sure had flashed in them, just before turning his head to her.
“I am” he lowered his voice to a murmur. “I'm taking my medicines obediently and I've been wearing extra layers of clothing these weeks. You can ask Kansuke if you want to.” He lifted a brow in a suggestive manner. “I have to be in good shape since I won't be letting you slee-”
“I'm serious” she interrupted him, frowning.
“So am I,” he said, his deep voice taking a solemn tone, as he stopped Kurokumo, making her do the same with her mare. “I'm not going to waste the precious time I have left to be with those dear to me getting sick and bed-ridden. I've learnt my lesson” he approached her again and extended his hand, his fingertips caressing her cheek. “You taught me well.”
Her eyes glistened with unshed tears and she nodded, leaning slightly into his touch, both of them ignoring Yukimura's stuttering and the other men's chuckles in the distance.
“And now,” he said dropping his hand, a soft smile drawing across his mouth, and resuming their journey. “Look...”
They had reached the last trees of the forest and, as they came out to open air, Shingen was delighted when he saw her eyes widening at the breathtaking sight before her. The sun had risen while they were on their way and the daylight showed them a scenery which seemed created by the talented hand of an artist. The ground was covered by an almost blinding layer of pure white and in front of the group, Mount Fuji, the sacred mountain, stood magnificent and serene, most of its surface covered in snow, it's perfect cone invisible to their eyes because of the number of clouds that gathered in the sky, a sign that there would be more snowfalls in Kai during the next days.
“Are you planning on going up there?” the drawl in Saizo's voice made obvious to the rest what he thought about the idea.
“Maybe when summer comes we could arrange a little training trip, but not today. We aren't equipped for the task and also, it's forbidden for women to climb it up,” he turned slightly towards the ninja. “You should know it...” the only answer he got was a tired sigh, which he ignored as he turned to the young woman beside him. “I just wanted her to see up close one of the most beautiful views we have in Kai.”
She whirled her head to him, her dilated pupils searching his, astonishment and emotion reflected on them, and Shingen felt a surge of pleasure fill his chest at having accomplished his mission. He had been sure almost from the beginning that her candor and sincerity had been what had drawn him to her so inevitably. She had all the qualities and virtues that he had lost at a young age in the wars and rebellions, in the plots on his life and the betrayals of proved comrades. Never before had he desired so much to gain the trust of someone until she had rejected him, or to give his heart so willingly before having the other's in his hands. She was the only one who had made him feel so strongly, the only one he wanted in his life until death claimed him from this world.
Breathing deeply to avoid being overwhelmed by his emotions, Shingen maneuvered Kurokumo to face his men.
“There's a Buddhist temple at about an hour on horse from here. We'll pay our respects there and then, go back. If we're lucky, we'll be back home late in the evening, in time for the end-of-the-year celebrations.”
He set his horse at a canter and the rest followed suit. He was delighted to see her keep his pace, her eyes fixed on the landscape in front of her, engraving each detail in her mind, and her cheeks flushed with excitement. It was obvious that Shirokumo was enjoying the freedom she gave her but at the same time, the mare's movements were careful to avoid any distress to her precious owner. Snow scattered around them as the horses' hooves dug in the surface, sometimes carried away by the wind that from time to time grazed their skin with its cold caress. Once in a while, light conversations and friendly jokes were exchanged between the riders, but they did most of the way in silence, basking in the views and the almost supernatural quietness that filled that vast expanse.
After a while, they arrived at the temple Shingen had told them about. It was a small complex whose impressive wooden gate stood in front of them. Through it, they could see a stone path patched with snow and the main building, whose roof and surroundings were covered in white as well. He dismounted and, patting him fondly on the neck, went round Kurokumo. seeing her looking for a way to come down from her mare.
“Wait,” he said getting to her side. “You have to wear this first.”
He took a sack which was hanging from the back of her saddle and opened it. Inside, the young woman could see a pair of straw boots. Shingen picked up one and took her ankle, taking off her sandal. She tried to protest at that gesture but one entreating glance from him was enough to silence her, though not to avoid a faint colour to cover her cheeks. Then, he slid her foot in that new shoe that she had never seen before.
“You'll be able to walk better and without getting your tabi wet” he lifted his face to her, a soft smile gracing his lips.
He did the same with her other foot and then, put her sandals in the sack, leaving it hanging from the saddle again.
“Aren’t you wearing them too?” she asked, his tone a bit uncertain.
“I’m fine, I’m used to walking in this type of weather” he showed her a confident expression. “And now...”
“Milord Shingen!” Yukimura walked to them, entwining his fingers. “Allow me. You shouldn't do those th-”
“Yukimura,” his expression became serious as he regarded his retainer. “It's not shameful to do these things for your woman” he lifted his arms, his hands closing around her waist, helping her slide slowly from the saddle as she leant on his shoulders for support. “I couldn't be called a real man if I let you or another do this.”
He put her down on the ground gently, making sure she had a good balance before taking her hand and walking to the sanctuary. He smiled when he saw that she was trying to gather the hem of her uchikake to avoid it getting wet from the snow.
“Don't worry about that” he whispered in her ear. “The maids will clean it later...”
Then, Shingen turned to his men.
“Secure the area.”
Kansuke nodded and turned to organise things with Sasuke and Saizo. Before going up the stairs, he could hear Yukimura murmur enthusiastically.
“He's the best man I've ever known! An example to follow!”
“Then, Little Lord,” Saizo's voice was filled with amusement. “I trust you won't faint when you help a woman get down from a horse? Because I remind you that you have to touch her” he finished, making emphasis on the next-to-last word.
Shingen chuckled moving his head, imagining the young man spluttering, red as a ripe apple, when a small giggle joined his.
“Poor Lord Yukimura. I wonder if there'll be a time when you all don't pick on him.”
“Or one when he doesn't blush like a maiden at the sound of the word 'woman'” he touched his chin thoughtfully. “I'll have to think of som-”
“Please, don't” her brows furrowed delicately, though her pupils shone with mirth. “I believe it's enough with some of your conversations in the Main Hall. I'm surprised he hasn't died of embarrassment yet, especially watching some of your displays.”
He grinned widely.
“It's fun to tease him.”
“You should give him a break” she pouted a bit. “He's a really sweet man, easy-going and steadfast. I'm sure he'll get a good wife when he's ready.”
“Are you trying to make me jealous?” he stopped, leaning in and nuzzling her neck. “Because you're succeeding at it.”
“L-Lord Shingen...” her cheeks became rosy and her eyes darted everywhere, looking for any witness. “We're in a sacred place...”
He sighed and dropped a soft kiss on her jaw.
“You're right” he murmured, gazing at her. “But then, don't start talking so happily about other men...”
She glanced around once more and seeing they were alone, she cupped his face and brushed her lips across his cheek.
“I won't” she replied, her features softening with affection.
Shingen straightened quickly, looking to his side for a moment, trying to hide the sudden blush that had coloured his skin. However, he was not very successful and she smiled, feeling accomplished because for once, she had defeated the great Takeda Shingen in his own game.
They walked the rest of the stone road and together, they prayed for the prosperity of Kai and victory in the year to come, for health and their love to keep on going strong. Shingen opened his eyes and watched her concentrated expression, her joined hands barely brushing her red lips, his heart once again filled with pride and love for her.
'And even though it's still too soon, I also hope that, in this year that starts tomorrow, I can ask you to give me the greatest honour a man could have, one I'd never thought I'd desire so much... The honour of making you happy as my wife.'
THE END
Notes:
1. Yes, Mount Fuji is in Kai. I did some research and looked at several photos of Kofu (the capital of Kai -today the prefectures of Yamanashi, Suruga and Shinano-) in winter, and the views are amazing.
2. I took some liberties regarding the setting, since I didn’t find information about forests (except for Aokigahara Forest, the sadly know as the Suicide Forest, which is also in Yamanashi/Kai) and how the geography of the area was in the Sengoku Period (there were some eruptions since that time). However, it is true that there are lots of shrines and temples from the foot to the summit of Mount Fuji. I chose a temple because historical Shingen was a devoted Buddhist.
3.Here’s a link to the boots that she wears: https://www.pinterest.es/pin/7881368068930062/?lp=true The information about their history was in Spanish.
Hi it’s Drabble Anon here with the 3rd drabble I made in this batch, same ghost au but focused on someone else, have fun and have a good day/night:
“Man, it’s been a while since we hung out! Even though we’re dead.” Date huffed, putting his hands behind his neck while giving Hiromitsu a grin, “Say, where’s that girl who’s been following your brother every now and then? The friend of his?”
“Ah, you mean Aoi? She’s currently looking after Kansuke right now. I think she wants to try and write to him.” Hiromitsu explains, floating around in circles. “Mom and Dad are currently resting right now. They’ve exhausted themselves practicing to lift things up and getting Taka’aki-nii to sleep after a long day at work. I think that was the first time they managed to actually push Taka’aki-nii.”
“Really now? Your parents must be strong Hiro!” Date laughed, pulling an arm around his friend, “I can’t wait to meet them again, your mom makes the best tea!”
“I don’t even know how she was able to prepare that tea, we’re in the afterlife.” Hiromitsu admits sheepishly before smiling at his older brother who was talking to Takagi, a close friend of Date’s. “It seems my brother and your friend are enjoying each other’s company.”
“I think they’re talking about a show Takagi watched. He’s a big fan of martial arts and sports. I had no idea that your brother was interested in that sort of thing.” Date says, amused as Hiromitsu shakes his head fondly, “Nah, he’s not but I think he likes hearing how passionate Takagi is about the subject.”
Hiromitsu wraps his arms around Taka’aki, even though they could barely feel each other, he appreciates how at least his brother is able to sense his presence and pats himself on the back whenever Taka’aki smiles more warmly because of it. Date blinks as he tries to wrap his arm around Takagi’s shoulder, only to cuss when he phased through, stumbling before floating back up. “Damnit! How did you do it Hiro?”
“To be honest, I’m not sure. It took a lot of practice but also a lot of determination. It’s like concentrating on a single point and making it happen.” Hiromitsu explains with a shrug, “It’s almost a gut feeling, almost instinctual.”
“I see.” Date nods, frowning as he continues watching Takagi. “Wish I could touch him but I guess I still haven’t gotten to that point yet. All I could do as of now is keep that reaper away.”
“What reaper?” Hiromitsu asked, confused when Takagi and Taka’aki halted their conversation, now focused as they calmly step into the building and that’s when Hiromitsu saw it— A skeleton in a black robe, wielding a giant scythe following the two. It was so silent, their presence non-existent and yet just looking at it was enough to plunge Hiromitsu’s heart into ice, shivers racking up his spine. “Wha—“
“Oh no you don’t!” Date shouted angrily, grabbing the cloaked figure and pulling it back, grunting as the skeleton struggled under his grasp. “Hiromitsu! Help me out here!”
“Ah! Right!” Hiromitsu exclaimed, snapping into action as he helped hold down the skeleton. “Who is this guy?!”
“I don’t know, I call it Bad Omen and it’s a real prick!” Date growled, re-securing his grip. “It constantly targets Takagi and puts him into serious danger like how he almost got caught in an explosion from a bomb and when he was left to starve in the damn winter!”
“Okay what?! You need to tell me these things later!” Hiromitsu yelps, letting out an exclamation of pain when the skeleton Bad Omen smacked him, sending shivers of foreboding across his body. “How do we get rid of it?”
“I don’t know, the best I can do is hold it off until Takagi is finished- woah!” Date’s eyes widened when Bad Omen suddenly disappeared from their grasps, leaving them fumbling for nothing. “No, no no! Where did it go?!”
As if to answer Date’s question in the cruelest way possible, an explosion went off in the building Takagi and Taka’aki went in and Hiromitsu felt his non-existent blood went cold upon that realisation. “Taka’aki-nii’s there.”
Immediately, Hiromitsu flew upwards, his panic rising upon seeing the floor covered in rubble, having flashbacks to a certain similar situation.
“No, no please… Taka’aki! Where are you?!” Hiromitsu called out despite the fact that Taka’aki couldn’t hear his voice at all. He dove into the rubble, gasping upon finding his brother trapped underneath, his only salvation being the pocket of space his upper body was in, his leg and arm pinned. Hiromitsu’s heart caught to his throat as he sees blood seeping out, “No! Taka’aki-nii, you can’t die! Not yet! You still have your life ahead of you! You gotta take care of your cat companion! Kansuke and Yui would be sad to see you go!”
Somehow, as if hearing him, Taka’aki stirred, groaning as he tries to lift himself up but the rubble prevented him from doing so. It was then that’s Hiromitsu noticed a sobbing, little girl wrapped around Taka’aki’s free arm, pulling her into a protective embrace. Hiromitsu resisted the urge to cry, biting his lip before noticing Bad Omen again. Anger clouds his vision as he tackles the skeleton right as it was raising it’s scythe, punching it in its skeletal jaw. “That’s enough! I won’t let you hurt them!”
Bad Omen clattered as it threw Hiromitsu away with ease, making him grunt before he flew back in but the skeleton was nowhere to be seen. Tightening his fists, Hiromitsu floated towards Date who found Takagi stuck in the rubble as well, holding himself up to shield someone underneath.
“Is that… The bomber?” Hiromitsu gasped in disbelief to which Date nods, trying his best to hold back tears, “Yeah, Takagi would always protect others, even if it’s at the cost of his own life. It’s something I really admire yet I wanna smack him upside the head for endangering himself all the time.”
“Date…” Hiromitsu muttered but before he could say anything else, the rubble shifted once more, pressing deeper into Takagi’s back which made him scream in pain. Date’s eyes shot open as he flew forward, “NO!!”
Date wasn’t sure how he did it, nor did he question it at the moment but somehow, he was pushing the rubble back, putting his all and more to make sure the Bad Omen doesn’t succeed. “Damnit… I won’t let you…! YOU’RE NOT GONNA DIE TAKAGI!! YOU’RE GONNA LIVE A HAPPY LIFE, MARRYING THE ONE YOU LOVE AND SETTLING DOWN!!! I WANT TO SEE YOUR WEDDING DAMNIT!!”
Hiromitsu didn’t hesitate to join in, doing his best to hold back the rubble or shift it so that it would be easier for those trapped underneath. It was stressful and every moment that passed, Hiromitsu feared that he’ll won’t make it in time. However, his fears were put to rest when hands shot forth and held back some of the rubble. Hiromitsu couldn’t help the tears of joy that rolled down his cheeks, “Jinpei! Mom, dad!”
“Sorry it took so long, but Anta and the others are here now.” Jinpei grinned through his exhaustion with a determined expression. “I saw your folks heading over here too, I guess they sensed something.”
“You’re not taking my son or that child’s life!” Hiromitsu’s mother exclaims with a fury Hiromitsu had never seen her with before, reminding her of the saying about fearing a mother’s wrath. “I won’t let you!”
Determination floods Hiromitsu as he, his parents, Jinpei and Date continue their best to keep the people trapped inside safe and after what felt like forever, finally, everyone was excavated out of the rubble. By some miracle and possibly their interventions, everyone survived and the bomber was arrested, the girl reuniting with her parents. Hiromitsu watched his parents as they hovered over Taka’aki worriedly, keeping close as though to reassure themselves that their elder son was still alive. Jinpei and Date were floating around Takagi and Satou with Jinpei solemnly rubbing Satou’s back as she cried, weakly scolding Takagi for getting into a dangerous situation again that most likely hit too close to home for her as Date huffs in exhaustion before laying down next to Takagi. From the corner of his eyes, he saw Bad Omen fade away and glared at it, sticking his tongue out before going to his brother and his friends.
They’ll protect their loved ones no matter what, not even a stupid death ghost would get in their way.
You know, I kinda love how what seems to be an isolate case of hauntings turns out to be a whole universe of this in-between realm. Everyone’s just chilling.
OK SO DOES THIS MEAN, souls usually ‘attach’ to people they know? What if they don’t have anyone to attach too? Do they just hang around or leave?? You don’t have to answer btw im just wondering asdfghjk
NOT THE TOKYO TOWER REAPER!!!
I love how Miwako can just sense when that mfer is close.
You know, do you think the same reaper was targeting Matsuda before it targeted Takagi hmm…….. do you think miwako has anything to do with this coincidence? Since she’s the only emotional tie connecting these two men.
AH!!! MATSUDA!!! I WAS JUST TALKING ABOUT YOU!!!
Wait, you know what’s funny? What if Conan is connected to them in some way since everyone keeps dying around him, keeping people alive when he’s around must be twice as hard kjanfkjlad
I love this one tho, thanks drabble anon!
A/N - ssh, sssssh nothing to see here, move along, move along, but thank you @han-pan for getting me to open the app for the first time in weeks to consume my FAVORITE KIND OF STORY - aka, Kai Family Shenanigans.
Every year, Takeda Corp hosted a grand costume party.
There wasn’t any particular reason for this to happen - it was just the sort of thing one did when one was fabulously wealthy, overwhelmingly fond of their employees, and inclined to any sort of excuse to ingest copious amounts of alcohol and delectable food.
(Popular rumor was that one of Shingen’s lovers had instigated the tradition when she had wistfully recollected that TV had lied to her, what with nearly every show featuring the dazzling and wealthy having a mysterious masquerade at least once a season and thereby setting up certain expectations that had been grossly undermet by reality. Shingen, being Shingen, had swooped in to rectify this, but then insisted her face was far too lovely to be covered with a mask, and so it was costumes instead. Of course, still being Shingen, he had also insisted that other parts of her were far too lovely to be covered, and both Shingen and mistress were, notably, absent for the first few hours of the affair.)
(“Affair” being, one must acknowledge, the operative word.)
All of this was, mind you, conjecture and theory, and though Shingen’s mistresses had changed, the tradition had remained. What had also remained the same, naturally, was how particularly serious Sanada Genjirou Yukimura was regarding his costume selection.
It had to be grand, and put-together, and thematic, and appropriate - after all, he was representing Takeda Corp (and in particular, the Sanada stake in it), and if Shingen was going through such trouble to make such a festive event, it was only fair he put in equal effort to attending it. (Technically, mind you, it was Shingen’s long-suffering and ever-loyal secretary, Kansuke, putting in most of the work, but Kansuke enjoyed such things, insomuch as he enjoyed anything, and though he had worn the same exact costume every year the tradition had been running, no one had yet to notice or comment.)
The challenge, of course, was in getting Saizo to play along.
His wife did, and little Sasuke too. But Saizo--Saizo--was another story. Yukimura had wheedled, and bargained, and begged, and sensing the (exasperatingly) tenacious nature of husband, wife, and small but stubborn student, Saizo had at last agreed to go along with whatever theme they selected, provided he could choose, compile, and wear a costume of his own choosing.
It was not, Yukimura quickly found out, the victory he had believed it to be.
That first year, his wife had been a beautiful blossom Yukimura a bright, round peach, and Sasuke a fuzzy and--though he would protest the description--adorable caterpillar.
Saizo, in a black shirt and pants, had proclaimed himself a branch.
Yukimura had been certain the next year that his recalcitrant bestie would join in, with Yukimura and his missus as Orihime and Hikoboshi (and Sasuke as one of his cows) but Saizo had slipped quietly alongside them, in a black shirt and pants, claiming to be the Milky Way - or at least, how it appeared without a telescope, anyway.
(The worst part of that year, Yukimura still sulked, was that Saizo had spent the entire night getting between him and Yukimura’s own beautiful bride, claiming only to be sticking with their theme).
But the next year!
Alice in Wonderland!
Surely there was no possible way for Saizo to avoid something fun and colorful and bright and odd, not with Yukimura and his cheeks painted with a card soldier’s hearts, his sweetheart with the Dormouse’s round, adorable ears atop her head, and Sasuke cackling as his overlarge hat slipped down over his eyes for the umpteenth time of the night.
And then, of course, Saizo has appeared, in a black shirt and pants, as the hole through which Alice had fallen.
But this year, Yukimura vowed. This year would be different. He would get Saizo in a costume - a real one - if he had to duel the man himself.
(Which technically, he had done a number of a times before, with varying results, but frankly getting Saizo to agree to it had about the same success rate as costuming did).
The three of them sat, huddled together with hushed voices. His darling wife spoke first, small wrinkle in her brow as she focused, distracting Yukimura temporarily with how much he loved it, that little wrinkle, which naturally extrapolated into how much he loved her, the woman who bore the wrinkle with grace and determination.
“Cinderella, maybe?” She offered. “Yukimura could be the prince, and oh, Sasuke you could be a mouse!”
Sasuke gave her a look of pure disdain, well beyond his tender years, and wrinkled his nose, “Ugh, no way! At least lemme be the prince’s bodyguard!” He leaned in, urgent and solemn, “I won’t let anyone flirt with Yukimura this year.” He straightened, doing his best tough-guy impression (an impression, all would agree, that looked quite a bit like his older and larger counterpart, or at least until he opened his mouth,) “Begone, thots!”
“Sasuke!” The wrinkle disappeared as her expression yanked into shocked dismay, “Where on Earth did you--nevermind. Just. Don’t, don’t say that. It’s not nice.”
Their group was garnering quite a bit of attention in the quiet little cafe, and the outburst only served to draw more eyes. Sasuke noticed a pair of them linger a little too long on his favorite dunderhead and raised a skeptical but patient eyebrow until they diverted to himself. Once captured, he frowned and made a shooing motion with his hand where neither of the oblivious couple could see. Begone, thot!
Yukimura, looking focused and faraway, shook his head, “It won’t work, anyway. He’d only use it as an excuse to leave at midnight.”
Mumbled sighs and assent followed.
Sasuke muttered under his breath, “No need for a costume in that theme, anyway. He basically already IS your fairy godmother.” Not catching the mumble, they blinked, “What was that?”
“Hmm?”
“Nothin’.” Sasuke dropped his elbows on the table and his chin in his hands, “What about pirates?”
The Year of Completion
Rather than setting a resolution I may never live up to, I choose themes for a year. In 2018, it was the year of new beginnings. In that year, I started on the road to being debt free minus student loans, started into grad school, started on a new writing project, and started organizing my writing and blogs.
2019 is the year of completion. I have already completed my road to being debt free by working anywhere from 60 to 70 hours a week for most of 2018. I want to finish cleaning up my writing and blogs. Part of that includes finishing all my dangling WIPs and series. That’s right, everything languishing in the WIP pile is now in the git er done pile. Check out some of my plans below the “Read More” to see what I have lined up. If you have another WIP or incomplete series I missed, let me know about it!
The Ties that Bind ending to The Beautifully Unbroken Series Takadakatsu/MC/ Long/ NSFW
“Please don’t look at me right now… The last thing I need is for you to see how nervous I am.” Of course, he would look at you at that exact moment, seemingly having read your thoughts. He huffed and donned an amused grin.
“You really are Tadakatsu’s woman if you can have lewd thoughts with no provocation.” His voice was a fine mix of disgust and teasing.
“It’s… that’s not the issue…” He scoffed and you tried to keep the indignant look you wanted to give him from your face. “What if I ruin everything like last time?” You went on sliding away from him. “It might be my only chance after all.” You watched his eye brow twitch up for a moment. Maybe he was surprised by that.
“Clearly you have a very different expectation of what’s going to happen tonight.” Lord Ieyasu remarked quietly, though it seemed to lack his normal bite.
“That’s possible. What are your expectations for tonight?” You couldn’t deny even the slightest gleaning would probably calm your nerves.
“Since you’re wholly incapable of being an instructional model,” he glanced over at you with cold, disinterested eyes, “you’re going to show me how to tie someone up on Tadakatsu.” He looked away. “Then I’ll leave you to finish that disgusting pervert off.”
“Oh…” You couldn’t hide the disappointment from your voice. “I suppose that makes sense.”
“I wonder what it’s like out there.” He gestured vaguely to the night sky with his bottle.
“That depends on who you ask.” I answered quietly as I grabbed the railing and leaned back. “Some people think it’s a finite sphere surrounding the world with us at the center. That’s it’s small a closed up.”
“Sounds like something a clergyman or king would think. That everything revolves around them. What do YOU think?” I couldn’t hide my surprise at the unexpected question, a tiny gasp escaping my lips. I rocked forward to level feet again.
“I think it is hubris formed from the idea that God created man in his image.” My answer was unwavering and resolute. “To think He would have everything revolve around us. I like to think that the sky is a vast, quiet, place like the open sea. That one day, we’ll be able to see it and explore it, just like the ocean.” I noticed a smile fight for a place on Atlas’ visage.
“Sounds nice.”
“Mmm…” I hummed out a response. “Maybe one day we’ll see it together.”
“The sky?” His voice sounded dubious.
“Yeah.”
“Anything’s possible.”
Homecoming conclusion to Home Kiyohiro/Angst and Fluff/SFW(for now)
On the way back to the palace she let out a long sigh. “Something’s wrong, isn’t it?” Normally he would ask if something was wrong.
“No.” She shook her head after a momentary pause. She glanced over at him and noticed his lips were pressed just a little bit firmer together. “Besides, your job is to protect me, not to care about my general well-being.” She added with a light tone. There was a slight crease between his brows, gone in an instant. She smiled just a little more at the sight of it. Every small cue more evidence that her thoughts are correct.
She stopped and sat the basket down to flex her hands a few times. If she was being honest were muscles were tired and aching. Her grip was getting weaker with every step. Determined to push past her weakness she bent down to pick up a basket that was already gone. She pouted as she turned to look at Kiyohiro, but he was already waking ahead of her.
Unnamed Kiyohiro/MC/Kojuro Smut based on this post.
The Smutty Conclusion to Meru’s Nobuyuki drabble string.
Ultra smutty Hanzo... the snake... not the poor, overworked cinnamon roll...
