Literally the best character in the game. I would be friends with Kanji IRL. I like that he's very hotheaded about everything, including defending ladybugs.

Also I very belatedly realized that the summer vacation days had no music and instead have the bug sounds. Which, maybe I am stupid but is Inaba in, like, the Kansai area? Is it meant to evoke that? I don't know enough on this topic, I know a few of the signifiers but not enough to be certain.

I remember the Tim Rogers video on Boku no Natsuyasumi (which is my favorite film of all time) and there's multiple points of meditation on the idea of cultural signifiers of childhood that feel universal to you but are completely unknown to others. The horned beetle thing is to me so deeply strange, and I remember when I was younger, playing Animal Crossing New Leaf, I was sort of going "why are all these games obsessed with beetles, this isn't real" but it is, it's just a deep-set, obvious part of someone else's childhood, a signifier I don't share. My summertime dogwood snow would probably be very strange to other people. But they all have the same tang of nostalgia.

Like, for real, I miss Fuuka so fucking much. Fuuka's scans took a random amount of time, usually 2 to 3 turns to happen, but they ACTUALLY TOLD YOU SHIT ABOUT THE ENEMY so it was a good trade off. The way Rise and Teddie both function as in-game notebooks of all the shit you already trial-and-errored is my least favorite thing about the battles in this game. I am sooooo bored of starting EVERY fucking fight with mabufu/magura/maragi/mazio just to fucking catalog shit. It sucks.

Fuuka was the best.

I'm working on Marie's SLink again bc I was told I have to max it out and I dunno if there's a deadline on that, and she literally called me out for not hanging out with her. SORRY, I was maxing out Magician and (soon to be) Emperor and Priestess!

Meanwhile, Chie is very focused on Yukiko which is very cute but also I know from Yukiko's SLink that it's.... not as reciprocated? As you would hope? Like, has Yukiko even mentioned to Chie her plan to skip down the day of graduation and leave? Jesus christ. I feel kind of bad for Chie honestly? She.... feels like the spare to a lot of people? 8C

Final notes, I did some running around to gather materials and YOSUKE AND TEDDIE HAVE A JOINT ATTACK. GOD THIS MAKES ME EVEN MORE ANGRY THAT RISE CUT OFF WHAT YOSUKE WAS GONNA SAY. smushes them

also when Teddie is in a dungeon and you give him an outfit that makes him appear human, he does the exact bouncy animations as if he were still a bear and its adorable

It's a good thing that Naoto has taken to wearing platform boots because it makes things so much easier. Such as leaning closer to place a small kiss on Kanji's cheek before pointing at the mistletoe hanging above them. "Happy holidays, Kanji-kun."

She’s been wearing them for a long time, now, so Kanji doesn’t know why he still gets thrown off by Naoto inching up much closer to him in height. He’s contemplating exactly this when she comes over and presses a small, soft kiss to his cheek.

Well, that’s just unfair. He’d protest if his face wasn’t so red and his mouth wasn’t hanging up like some weird fish. Instead, he has another beat of quiet before he can find his words again. They’re not even hard worlds, just a ‘you too!’ or ‘Happy holidays, Naoto-kun.’

Literally anything. 

His brain chooses that moment to fizzle out entirely and leave him to his own devices, so he keeps himself leaning down, not aware of his movements until he’s planting a kiss right to the tip of her... very very cute nose. “You too.” And of course, his voice cracks, because he isn’t embarrassed enough.
