WHO IS KANG AERIS?

On June 11th, 2015, Kang Aeris, a female trainee of Linear Enterprises, a company dedicated to shine the spotlight on talented individuals and groups both young and old, debuted with her best friend of three of five of her trainee years.

Kang aspires to be the reason youngsters choose to believe in something they lost hope in. She, alongside Hyun Jang-Mi, “hope to provide a sanctuary, a safe place, for those who need it. We cannot be there in person for them, but we hope to be there for them through our songs, a sort of… communication from one person to another.”

Kang Aeris was found to be battling with her own mental health after confessing to thousands of fans on her Instagram live (from December 12th, 2017) that she faced many hardships growing up. She revealed to have a guardian, and not parents as they refused to take responsibility for their actions and for their children’s childhood. Kang had also said that there were many times when her father would be present and sober, but he would fall victim to drugs and alcohol once again while her mother was diagnosed with Bipolar and Schizophrenia, making her extremely difficult to deal with and therefore she was found to have died by an overdose of heroin. Her father died of liver, heart and kidney failure as his toxic drinking (and drug) habits finally caught up him. That left Kang in a very awkward situation: what would happen to her and her siblings? The order of the siblings from first to last born: Jae-hee (f), Aeris (f), Lilly (f), Hyeon (m), Hye-sook (m) and Iseul (f). The idol was left to fend for herself and her siblings.

Due to Kang’s refusal of the continuation of detail from her childhood, no other confirmed allegations have been brought up since her physical argument with a saesang, who overstepped her boundaries and was put to the floor after making an inappropriate comment to her face. The saesang was announced to have been fine, only being bruised around the eye, a broken nose and a fractured wrist. She herself had a lot to say about the damage done to her, a lot of which we will not be able to disclose due to the inappropriate language used. But, who’s with me when I say I was rooting for Kang? ‘Cause damn! That woman may only be 5’5” but she has some strength.

Kang Aeris was born October 31st, 1997 and, with photographic evidence, was proved to have attended the same school and class as BTS’ Jeon Jungkook, and even dated him before his debut! It was said that the two were very close but when Jeon continued his path to a bright future of an idol career, the two grew apart, petty arguments aroused frequently — whether at school or on a day outisde of school —, they barely showed affection and the cherry on top: Jeon had fallen in love with his older hyungs, who he is now in a happily committed relationship with — yes, all seven of the BTS members are dating!

Kang’s management confirmed in the early days of July that she had not dated anyone since their breakup, causing rumours to arise between the two old lovers.

Jang-Mi being angry was an understatement. “What absolute bullshit!” She yelled over the phone. “I can’t believe them right now! You’re in Seoul, without me, and the public are gonna start on you, I just know it!”

Aeris stayed quiet for a second before deciding her next words carefully. “I’ll be okay, Mimi. I have security, and it’s only the MAMA’s, so it’ll be packed with idols so fans, saesangs and the public can’t get to me.” She explained. “They won’t even be able to reach me on stage.” Her eyes flickered to the window that displayed a clear, beautiful view of a sunset over the large city of Seoul. “Plus, you’ll be here soon anyways.”

“Mhm.” She replied. “Sure, sure, and why don’t we just throw in the fact that BTS are gonna be there too!” Jang-Mi was protective over her maknae, and refused any type of harm to touch her because they had a sister-type bond, nothing more, nothing less. “Rumours are gonna spread the second you walk in after them, I can guarantee that.” She huffed, “Just like the moment me and Eloise met in France, and suddenly everyone was all over us.”

Aeris chuckled. “But you two are actually dating, and Jungguk… well—”

“Don’t you dare finish that sentence because I know you’re acting in the heat of the moment and rethinking everything. Don’t, cheonsa, please don’t do this to yourself. Not again.” Jang-Mi pleaded, voice stuttering with emotion. She sounded like she was going to cry, and Aeris couldn’t blame her. The last time Aeris thought of Jungkook in that particular way, it wasn’t pretty; she became depressive, rarely responded to her older sister and Jang-Mi alike, until she ended up attempting a threat on her life. That attempt was painful, and Aeris was in mental pain whenever she thought of it, she could still feel certain parts of her body shaking with spilling blood and the pain—

“I have to go, cheonsa.” Jang-Mi said, disappointment clear in her voice. She sighed into the receiver and the two said their goodbyes, both wanting to stay on longer, but Aeris needed to get dressed and ready while Jang-Mi was still on her way from the airport, having to get dressed in the limousine on the way. “I’m on my way, so sit tight, yeah? I’ll be with you soon.”

After her best friend hung up, all the lonely woman could do was gaze and admire the sun setting beneath to buildings in the distance, small rays making their way in between the tall structures. Clouds slowly drifted past as the different light shades of the horizon turned darker with the passing time. Before she knew it, an hour had passed and she had two hours before having to make attendance at the award show.

She stood up from the bed, shaking her head lightly to get rid of her sudden dizziness as the door opened, revealing her two other members, make up and clothing artists and her manager. They clustered into the room with a trolly containing their accessories for the night.

“Okay, girls,” Su-Yeon, their manager, started, gesturing for the the three of them to crowd around her, “tonight will be a bit difficult to comprehend but I’ll make sure to explain it while you get ready and again on the way, yeah?” She looked between the girls and they nodded with determined smiles. “Okay, good plan. Now, go.” She responded with a smile of her own as the girls were ushered to their own small station by their team to get them ready.

Jang-Mi swiftly closed the door behind her and the car took off almost instantly. “What a call, am I right?” She laughed, and Victoria shook her head at her.

“You’re lucky,” the latter started, “we almost left without you, dodo.”

The former frowned playfully, “I love you too, itty bitty titty vicci.” It was her time to smirk as the woman in question choked on her spit.

Mabel and Aeris shared a look of amusement before chuckling together. The two maknaes were close, but not as close as Aeris was to Jang-Mi as the two of them had trained together for three years. Mabel was closer to Victoria as they shared many interests and factors and enjoyed each other’s company quite frequently, whether it was going for a walk, reading together, dancing, producing or vocal practice, they did it together. Their bond was almost as powerful as Jang-Mi and Aeris’, who instantly hit it off the second they met.

Aeris leaned against Mabel’s shoulder, the older woman softly dropping her head on top. She loved moments like these: Victoria and Jang-Mi playfully arguing while she and Mabel sat back and watched it happen. Moments like those helped her stay calm and relaxed, and she needed all the calming sentiments as possible because MAMA was a big deal for her. Ever since the MAMA’s were created, Aeris was interested. She wanted to do what the artists did, she wanted to sing and dance and perform for thousands, if not millions.

A dream, she called it.

A moneymaker, her parents called it.

She didn’t care about them, though. They did nothing to help her raise herself and her siblings, they didn’t care about any of them because if they did then they wouldn’t have done what they had. She almost felt bad whenever she thinks of the fate they came to be; ashes in an urn, to which no one visits.

Aeris closed her eyes, trying to calm her nerves when the weight of Mabel’s head on her own was lifted and her shoulder suddenly disappeared. She peeped an eye open and there sat Jang-Mi in all her glory, smoothing down her hair before replacing Mabel’s old position. “You okay, bubs?” The elder asked. She received a quiet hum. “Just focus on your breathing.” She whispered, “Suyeon-ssi is going to explain tonight’s plan and I’ll tell you when we’re seated, yeah?” Another quiet, but hesitant hum.

The rapper smiled, before leaning the side of her head on Aeris’, ready to listen to her manager. Victoria and Mabel sat with no spare space between them. They’re like each other’s anchor, Suyeon mused to herself.

The manager cleared her throat. “Now, when we get there, we need big smiles, teeth and even gums if possible. I’m looking at you, Mabel.”

Mabel grinned in response.

“Victoria, you’re the leader, therefore, you’ll be getting out first and it will be absolutely packed — I spoke to Daniel about it, it’s pretty chaotic. You need to make sure these three don’t go wandering, but whatever you do, stick together as much as possible, okay?”

Victoria nodded sternly.

Suyeon turned to Jang-Mi, who immediately perked up, but not enough to disturb her occupied best friend. “Jang-Mi, it is important for you to stay by Aeris’ side all night, okay? If she goes to the bathroom, so do you. If she wants to speak to another group, so do you. If she does absolutely anything, you need to be there as well.” The bleached-blonde shook her head in agreement. “We can’t risk the paparazzi or saesangs getting sight of her. She won’t be able to handle them on her own.”

Jang-Mi smiled, looking down at her maknae. “I’ll make sure of it.”

“Great.” Suyeon turned to stare out the window as car came to a slow stop. The flashing and shuttering of the cameras awoke Aeris as she sat up and prepared herself for the worst, mind still slightly foggy from her short trance. She busied herself with preparation of checking up on her make-up and smoothing down the creases in her clothing.

“Oh, and Jang-Mi?” Suyeon asked, opening the door and allowing Victoria to step out, Mabel following.

“Keep her far away from Jeon.”

The venue sparkled and shimmered with circling bright lights. Idols from varieties of different groups, and soloists, were crammed into the bottom, near the centre stage as fans of many surrounded the upslope sides, lights sticks raised and waving.

Jang-Mi held tightly onto Aeris’s hand as they walked down the steps, the two girls in sync with the others movements. Victoria led the way, manoeuvring past different people and seatings to find their own space. Luckily, it wasn’t too far from the stage, and therefore, it would be a lot easier access to backstage to get ready before they performed. Aeris scanned the area, a breath of relief escaped her when she realised she was out of the clear and confidence striking her as the coast, she deemed, was clear.

They reached their assigned seating. With twenty or so minutes to spare and the camera’s already rolling, the four of them decided to chatter amongst themselves.

“What… is your biggest flaw?” Mabel dragged out, her chin rested on her open palm as she awaited an answer. Victoria instantly shot up. “Go on.”

Victoria cleared her throat. “Forgetfulness.” She answered proudly. Jang-Mi scoffed. The younger of the two held a sharp look. “What?”

Jang-Mi chuckled. “Don’t worry.”

“No, no. I will worry. Tell me.”

“Share with the group!” Mabel clapped excitedly, a large smile on her lips.

Jang-Mi shared a look with Aeris, who raised an eyebrow with a smirk. The latter turned to Victoria. “Forgetfulness, sure, but you’re forgetting your Egoism.” She leaned back onto the palm of her hands as her best friend placed a hand on her thigh, the placement just above her knee.

Mabel laughed. “My flaw is I have no flaws.” She flipped her long hair back over her shoulder.

“I refuse to believe that.” Jang-Mi scoffed again.

Jungkook couldn’t keep his eyes off of her. They wandered from her face, to her crossed legs and to her boot-clad feet. She was still as beautiful as the day he left her. Fingers appeared in front of his vision, blocking and blurring Aeris’ figure. It was Jimin. His hyung looked at him in concern.

“What’s wrong, kook?” He asked, his hand coming up to rub Jungkook’s bicep soothingly.

“It’s nothing, hyung.” The maknae’s eyes rotated away from his lover to the woman sitting there, legs still crossed, still leaning on her arms. Her smirk was gone but she was laughing. What he would do just to hear her beautiful laughter again.

Jimin’s eyebrows furrowed, following his eye line to see his younger lover’s first love. His heart dropped. If she was here, then rumours will arise, especially with himself and his partners seated so close to hers. Jimin watched as Aeris threw her head back and laughed at something one of her band mates had said. A smile appeared on her face, and he himself couldn’t help the upward twitch of his own lips. He bit his lips to stop his smile, turning around to the others and leaving Jungkook to stare.

Seokjin, Yoongi and Hoseok were conversing about what take-out they wanted after the group got back to their hotel while Namjoon and Taehyung admired the lights and staging. Jimin’s worry only worsened when he realised Jungkook was still gazing at her, his facial features relaxed and adoring.

What he would do to see him not stare at her like that.

The dress change had been very quick, along with the make up and hair. Microphones were removed from them the second they finished their routine and disappeared off-stage.

It had been exhilarating.

The four women were released from back stage and made their way back to their seating arrangement. Mabel and Aeris fell behind Victoria and Jang-Mi, who conversed and poked fun at one another, like sisters (just less violent). Aeris smiled unconsciously.

“You did good out there, you know?” Mabel said softly, looking at her maknae with something she wasn’t able to identify.

She nodded slowly, exhaling. “You did too, SB.”

“You didn’t just call me that.” Mabel scoffed in disbelief. They walked past a couple girl groups on their way. “I thought we dropped that.”

Aeris smirked, shaking her head. “Definitely not, it was too good to pass up.” As Mabel went to rant about how she did actually know how to cook smoked bacon properly, and almost burning down the dorms wasn’t entirely her fault, but Jang-Mi’s as well, she locked eyes with brown.

A man. A man she knew all too well.

Min Yoongi, present lover of her past lover.

His feline eyes softened a smidge, before hardening as he stared her down. Her breath had been stolen as she ambled past with Mabel droning on. The second they walked past, she could still feel his eyes on her back, burning through her clothing, through the skin on her back and into her soul.

Aeris inhaled deeply, eyes widened as she moved on. She hadn’t recovered, despite her putting on a mask of calmness, as she sat down. Her eyes scanned the stage, bright lights invading her clear view as another group performed. She dared to glance his way, only to see him leaning forward, elbows rested on his knees, hands lazily clasped between the space, his eyes on her every move. Her eyes averted. Her breath quickened.

“Why is so he so beautiful, but so damn scary.”

“Did you say something, bubs?” Jang-Mi looked over at her, eyebrow raised. Aeris’ eyes met hers as she immediately composed herself. She nodded hurriedly, a sudden yawn escaping her mouth. Her hand moved to cover her action.

“Yeah.” She mumbled, tired, and longing to go back to the hotel and sleep everything off.

Jang-Mi shrugged, nodding. “If you say so.” Yet, her suspicions were hidden, she turned around to continue watching the other two interact, eyes glancing between them and the sight of her frizzled friend.

I just wanted to quickly say that this is a draft of something I started almost forever ago and I wanted to alter it and work with it as much as possible, so it wouldn’t go to total waste.

If so, I am considering converting it to an ‘x reader’ instead of an original character. Although, I haven’t decided yet and even then it would take a lot to turn a new page and avert everything to something like that. It’s still in considering, though.

I also just wanted to say I have no update schedule and such cause I’m going to be very busy with counselling and personal as such things. I will update whenever can. Hopefully soon though, because I quite like what I’m doing with this work.

Clean cut fashion when she wasn’t in her hospital attire, an iced mocha in hand, a pastel purple book bag strapped to her back, and a Kate Spade purse hanging from her shoulder were what Mary Jane Seo sported whenever she walked the halls of Dongguk University. A top medical student in Seoul, Mary Jane aspired to be a pediatrician, and everyone else knew she was serious about her studies. She was quite popular among the other students as she often tutored the ones who needed help and was the life of the party at social gatherings. However, behind closed doors, only one person occupied her time when she wasn’t studying, working, or partying.

Kang Young Hyun, or Brian Kang as she knew him and Young K as his fans knew him, had always liked her ever since he saw her studying in the library. Her silky, dark hair had been pulled into a half updo, and she was dressed in baby blue business attire clothed her slim five foot seven body. What caught his eye were the purple cat ear headphones playing music in her ears as she nodded her head to whatever song was playing. He didn’t want to come off too strongly, so he just played it off like he was just sitting down across the table from her to study. She had looked up at him for a second and gave him a soft smile to acknowledge his presence, and as he was getting out his notes and textbook he had noticed she was writing in both Korean and English.

Mary Jane had then pulled her headphones off to ask him, “May I help you?”

That is what sparked their friendship, which would turn into a romantic relationship a few months later. Both of them knew it was against his contract to be dating her when the ban had not expired yet, but he couldn’t deny his love for her. Mary Jane was working tirelessly to earn her degree before she worked on getting her medical license, and dating wasn’t exactly at the top of her list. However, she fell head over heels for Brian upon getting to know him. Both were busy individuals, but they managed to keep their personal lives out of the public eye and unnoticed by their peers.

Mary Jane entered the student lounge around 7:30AM and began to pour herself some coffee. She had exams in both biology and in a nursing class, so she was focused and ready.

A pair of strong arms slipped around her waist, pulling her out of her focused mind.

“Good morning, babe,” Brian whispered in her ear before pecking her cheek.

“Brian, we’re in public,” Mary Jane chuckles while trying to break free from his hold.

“It’s literally just the two of us in here.”

“Someone could walk in.”

His hands rest on her hips, his chin perched on her shoulder as their bodies are pressed up against each other. “Let them look. They’ll know you’re mine.”

“Possessive, are we now?” she teased with a chuckle. “But seriously, you’re technically still under a dating ban. Anybody could try to expose us, and I don’t want you getting kicked out of your group because of me.”

Brian sighs. He never understood why dating was such a taboo in the industry, but he never felt sorry for never denying his love for Mary Jane.

“I know,” he says, trying to hold her hand that kept running from his, “but if I get in trouble and they make me leave, I’ll leave on my own terms. Not because they were pissed I fell in love.”

She just nods and mixes her beverage. She then turns around and hugs him.

“I love you,” she whispers. “You mean the world to me, you know?”

“Of course I do,” he says, “but can’t I hold your hand for a moment?”

“It’s not that I don’t like holding hands. I don’t like the moment when I have to let it go again.”

Brian looks into her eyes and smiles. “You took the words out of my mouth,” he says before kissing her lips.

Mary Jane then gathers her coffee and backpack before kissing him once more. “It won’t be long before we can reveal our love,” she reassures.

“I know,” he sighs. “But I’m seeing you tonight, aren’t I?” He winks with a sly smirk.

Mary Jane scoffs. “Get to class, ya nasty.”

What I Watched This Week: February 16-23 (*Spoilers*)

Hello friends!

I am starting a new thing, where I will be writing reactions for the kdramas I watch every week. I try to avoid watching completed shows because I often just end up binge-watching them and so I only watching ongoing shows during the semester. However, this means that I have to wait nearly two months to write my reviews and analyses. Therefore, I am starting this new writing project. I hope you all will enjoy reading them!

Sisyphus: The Myth ( Thursdays and Fridays): This past week, I watched the first and second episodes of Sisyphus. Sisyphus stars Park Shin Hye and Cho Seung Woo, where the latter plays Han Tae Sul, an engineer and CEO of the successful company, Quantum and Time. On the other Park Shin Hye, plays the character, Kang Seo Hae, a mysterious young woman, that appears to have time travelled to warn Han Tae Sul. Its been a long time since I watched an action focused sci fi kdrama as I've been riding the rom-com wave for a while, but I was super excited to see Park Shin Hye in a drama. Park Shin Hye, was the first kdrama actress that I was introduced to, and my first kdrama was Doctors. However, this is my first Cho Seung Woo drama. So far, Sisyphus seems super interesting and after watching the first two episodes, I was left with many questions, especially surrounding Tae Sul's brother and why Seo Hae wants to meet Tae Sul ( it looks like they get married or atleast have a wedding, but I want to know more about the specifics about their relationship). Sisyphus has great potential as show. The only concern I have is that the plot may get too convoluted and become hard to follow along. Other similar dramas like The King Eternal Monarch seemed to fall into this trap.

Vincenzo (Saturdays and Sundays) : I also watched the first two episodes of Vincenzo starring Song Joong Ki, Jeon Yeo Been, Ok Taec Yeon, and Yoo Jae Myung. This is the second kdrama that I am watching Song Joong Ki in. The first one was the blockbuster hit "Descendants of The Sun", which starred him and his ex-wife Song Hye Kyo. After Descendants of The Sun, I spent a couple of months, obsessing over Song Joong Ki and was disappointed when I couldn't really commit to watching Arthdal Chronicles. Regardless, I absolutely LOVED the first two episodes of Vincenzo. Before watching Vincenzo, I did not know that it was a dark comedy, and thought it was a thriller, but the comedy in this show is top notch. Its hilarious seeing this dichotomy that exists with Song Joong Ki's Vincenzo Cassano. Vincenzo's the man that doesn't flinch when it comes to pulling the trigger, and yet, you see him on the brink of tears and frustration when the dry cleaners damage his vintage Italian suit. Also, though I initially watched this show for Vincenzo, Hong Cha Yeon stole my heart. She is spunky, hilarious, dramatic, and brilliant. Her character reminds me a lot of Jun Ji Hyun's Cheon Song Yi from My Love From The Star. My only concern with this drama is how reduced Ok Taec Yeon's role is. Ok Taec Yeon is a talented actor, who has succesfully acted in leading roles. Therefore, I found it disappointing to see him reduced as simply playing the dumb intern that exists for comic relief. I hope his character is more flushed out in future episodes!

She Would Never Know ( Mondays and Tuesdays): Finally, I watched Episodes 11 and 12 of She Would Never Know starring Won Jin Ah and Ro Woon. I didn't realize till today how far along I came with watching this show. I haven't been able to be as committed to watching She Would Never Know because it is not available on any mainstream streaming sites for free. Therefore, I have resorted to watching the show on Kiss Asian and the pop-up ads have been annoying. Regardless, She Would Never Know is definitely one of those slow burn dramas that don't make an immediate impact, but they grow on you over time. Cha Hyun Seung and Yoon Song Ah are finally in a relationship and I am here for the fluff! I also love how the show still manages to focus on their professional lives. I find the inner workings and conflicts that come with working for a major cosmetics company. I also am looking forward to seeing how the LGBTQI+ storyline with Cha Hyun Seung’s sister will play out and how Lee Jae Shin’s relationship with Hyo Joo will unfold. Hyo Joo is unfortunately a stereotypical kdrama character, who resorts to playing the unhinged crazy possessive girlfriend, who refuses to move on. At this point, Hyo Joo needs a therapist more than anything and I hope there is a redemption arc for her character. Also, I wish the show would go more into why she’s so hell bent on marrying Lee Jae Shin even though he’s from a lower social class and is frankly not attracted to her. Regardless, I want to give a special shout out to Ha-Eun she’s such a precious character! She really be out here giving better relationship advice than most adults.

All the dramas I’ve watched in 2020

These are all the dramas that I watched in 2020, with some review there should be NO Spoilers. I think I watched a lot more than usual probably because what else am I supposed to do between school and quarantine. So this is gonna be a long one...

Crash Landing on You (Lee Jung-hyo, 2019-2020)

Main Leads: Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin

Episodes: 16, 70 to 110 Minutes

Thoughts: I enjoyed this drama, and it was a good one to start 2020 with. I thought it was a perfect blend of romance, comedy, heartfelt, found family, action, and some tragedy. I would highly recommend it, especially for those who are new to Kdramas. Also fun fact this is my first Hyun Bin drama. Rating: Fun and adorable

Tale of Nokdu (Kim Dong-hwi, 2019)

Main Leads: Jang Dong Yoon and Kim So Hyun

Episodes: 32, 35 minutes

Thoughts: I actually started watching this when it was airing but I stopped around episode 13 because of my busy schedule and finished it in the new year. I adore the main couple, the romance, comedy, the found family, and the women center story. I thought it shined the brightest when it was focused on the group and its funny and warm moments but once it got too political it kinda fell flat. I loved the ending, however. Also, I really like Jang Dong Young as an actor, I saw him in Solomon’s Perjury (2016) and Mr. Sunshine (2018) and I loved how he played Nok Du too. Rating: I love a women’s only widow village

I’ll Find You When The Weather is Nice (Han Ji-seung, 2020)

Main Leads: Seo Kang Joon and Park Min Young

Episodes: 16, 60 minutes

Thoughts: I really liked this drama, probably one of my favorites this year. As you will notice I enjoy quieter and more slow-burn stories. Also, I am a fan of Park Min Young she tends to pick more interesting and strong-willed female roles, so it is really enjoyable to watch. Rating: makes me want to own a book store.

King: The Eternal Monarch (Kim Eun-sook, 2020)

Main Leads: Lee Min Ho and Kim Go Eun

Episodes: 16, 70 Minutes

Thoughts: Confession; I am actually not the biggest fan of Lee Min Ho, nothing against him I just hate rich bratty characters and he tends to play them. However, I surprisingly really liked his character, he wasn’t a rich brat he actually was likable. I also really like Kim Go Eun, she is actually one of the main reasons why I watched and also with all the hype around it. Woo Do Hwan, who I have always liked, stole the whole show, however. I didn’t hate it like a lot of people, I really liked the characters, I liked the romance and the action. Also, Lee Min Ho and Kim Go Eun’s hugs were absolutely fabulous. It wasn’t my favorite and there were too many product placements, but I don’t think it was the worst drama this year. Rating: Lukewarm

A Piece of your mind (Lee Sang-yeob, 2020)

Main Leads: Jung Hae In and Chae Soo Bin

Episodes: 12, 70 minutes

Thoughts: I actually really liked this drama despite the low views, again I’m big on slow burn stories and character focus. I believe the episodes were cut from 16 to 12 I don’t know exactly why maybe because of the Pandemic or due to viewership or a mixture of both. Despite its being cut short I really liked the ending, and I thought the two leads were sweet. Rating: Wish we had more time to develop the characters.

Its Okay not to be Okay (Park Shin Woo, 2020)

Main Leads: Kim Soo Hyun and Seo Yea Ji and Oh Jung Se

Episodes: 16, 70 to 85 minutes

Thoughts: Out of all the dramas I talked the most about this one. I have always been a fan of Seo Yea Ji since Save Me (2017) and Lawless Lawyer (2018) and I am happy to see her getting more recognition because of this role. The entire cast was amazing and I think I cried every episode. Such a good and heart-wrenching drama which is why I chose to watch it before work every time. Rating: I would let Seo Yea Ji stab me with a knife anytime.

Mystic Pop up bar (Jeon Chang-geun, 2020)

Main Leads: Hwang Jung Eum and Yook Sung Jae and Choi Won Young

Episodes: 12, 70 minutes

Thoughts: I actually watched this while I was watching Its Okay Not to Be Okay and it was a nice balance to it because this was more of a found family story with less heartbreaking moments. Though it did have its share of heartbreak. I really liked all the characters and their relationship. Also, I am a sucker for bureaucratic fantasy/ magic, and kdramas are so good at it. Rating: I wish it was 16 episodes.

When the Camila Bloom (Cha Yeong Hoon, 2019)

Main Leads: Gong Hyo Jin and Kang Ha Neul

Episodes: 20, 63 to 75 minutes

Thoughts: I liked the story overall, the romance was cute and the mystery was interesting but I thought the family expectations was the best part of the story. This was not my favorite drama, but it was enjoyable and heartfelt. I watched it right after It's Okay Not to Be Okay and while I was watching Flower of Evil (2020) which probably is why I was so underwhelmed by it. Rating: Sweet romance and adorable found family.

Flower of Evil (Kim Cheol Kyu, 2020)

Main Leads: Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won

Episode:16, 70 minutes

Thoughts: This was my favorite drama of this year. I went into this drama not thinking much of it, and I mainly watched it as a post drama blues drama. It was an action and thriller which I mainly don’t get attached to plus I am a huge fan of Lee Joon Gi. I should have known better, I cared so much about all the characters, the acting phenomenal, also every time they showed their hands I cried. This drama left me shriveled and empty inside. Rating: Lee Joon Gi will literally kill me one day.

Put Your Head On My Shoulders (Zhu Dongning, 2019)

Main Leads: Xing Fei and Lin Yi

Episodes: 24, 40 to 45 minutes

Thoughts: This is the first Chinese drama on this list. I thought it was cute, I liked the couple and thought it was alright. I started to dislike the male lead later in the series but it was overall fine. It was basic and sweet with very little drama. Rating: It did its job.

The School Nurse Files ( Lee Kyoung Mi, 2020)

Main Leads: Jung Yu Mi and Nam Joo Hyuk

Episodes: 6, 45 to 57 minutes

Thoughts: This is probably my second favorite drama. I couldn’t tell what happened in the drama but I loved it. I thought it was weird and fascinating, and just so magical. I loved the children and just how the whole school was just off its rocker. I also think that Nam Joo Hyuk does really well in serious roles, and I thought he did a really good job here. Rating: 1 jelly heart.

Mr. Heart (Park Sun Jae, 2020)

Main Leads: Cheon Seung Ho and Lee Se Jin

Episodes: 8, 11 Minutes

Thoughts: This was 8 episodes of start fluff and I adored it. Apparently, it is apart of a BL series by Park Sun Jae and there is a movie version that I haven’t watched. If you want to destress and watch just fluff this is the show for you. Rating: If it is any sweeter I would be going to the dentist.

You are My Destiny ( Ding Ying Zhou, 2020)

Main Leads: Xing Zhao Lin and Liang Jie

Episodes: 36, 45 minutes

Thoughts: I hated this drama, I thought it was the worst thing ever. I don’t know why I even watched all 36 episodes. Apparently, it is a remake of a popular 2008 Twaniese drama Fated to Love You and there is a Korean remake of it as well. I have watched neither of them, so I was brand new to this story. I hated, despised the male lead. He was whiny, entitled, and an asshole. The only good part of the drama was the male and female lead actually had a lot of chemistry, unfortunately, they are playing awful characters. Rating: This was made in 2020???

First Romance (Ding Pei, 2020)

Main Leads: Wan Peng and Riley Wang

Episodes: 24, 45 Minutes

Thoughts: This is another Chinese drama. Similar to Mr. Heart (2020) this show was super fluffy. I really liked the main couple they seem to respect each other and they both had adorable crushes on each other. I loved the whole dumb jock and dumb artist dynamic it was so funny. Rating: Cute!!!

Lost Romance ( Eri Hao, 2020)

Main Leads: Marcus Chang and Vivian Sung

Episodes: 20, 70 minutes

Thoughts: This is the only Twainese drama on this list. I think I liked this drama, I actually only remember very little of this drama. I like the CEO in the real world more than the book world, and I also really liked the female lead except she lowkey stalked the CEO like that was not okay. Rating: I think I liked it???

Thoughts: I really liked this film, I loved all the characters and thought it was all very heartfelt. I cried like a baby, and Hua Biao was such a touching and relatable character. And the whole grandma story hit so close to home. Rating: Made me cry like a baby.

Moment of 18 ( Sim Na Yeon, 2019)

Main Leads: Ong Seong Wu and Kim Hyang Gi

Episodes: 16, 70 minutes

Thoughts: I really liked this drama, and I thought the romance was so cute. I also really liked the relationship between the moms and was sad that the rich mom was a bitch and ruined the friendship. I also wasn’t a big fan of the ending, but I loved the rest of it. Rating: The main lead is part of a boy group because he had a random singing moment.

Perfect and Casual ( Li Shuang, 2020)

Main Leads: Miles Wei and Xu Ruo Han

Episodes: 24, 45 minutes

Thoughts: This is another Chinese drama on this list. I’m pretty sure it's considered an Idol drama so that sets your expectations. I really liked this drama a lot, I am a big fan of contract marriages and I thought the leads were so cute together. Also, this is the first contract marriage drama where the leads don’t break up which I like. A lot of the drama came from outside of the relationship. Rating: You can’t analyze love.

Le Coup De Foudre ( Wang Zhi, 2019)

Main Leads: Janice Wu and Zhang Yujian

Episodes: 35, 45 minutes

Thoughts: My favorite Chinese drama on this list. I loved this drama, I thought it was sweet and simple and the main couple was so realistic. Unpopular opinion I disliked the second couple and the best friend I thought she was annoying and brattish. However, I adore the main couple and their relationship. Rating: Realistic sweet romance.

More Than Friends ( Choi Sung Bum, 2020)

Main Leads: Ong Seong Wu and Shin Ye Eun

Episodes: 16, 70 minutes

Thoughts: I enjoyed the overall story and characters. I loved the group and their relationships. Also, Young-Hee made me cry, and her relationship with Hyun Jae was so sweet. The main leads were also sweet, and I related a lot to Lee So. I just didn’t like the back and forth. Rating: How many times can we break up in a drama.

Be With You ( Zhou Miao, 2020)

Main Leads: Ji Xiao Bing and Zhang Ya-Qin

Episodes: 24, 45 minutes

Thoughts: This is the last Chinese drama I watched this year. It was alright, the romance was sweet, I really like the female lead, and the male lead was nice to look at. It was okay. Also, the second couple was so ??? She was his boss, enemy, and older than him, what?? Rating: Sometimes you need to fall in love to be creative.

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo ( Kim Kyu Tae, 2016)

Main Leads: Lee Joon Gi and Lee Ji Eun (IU)

Episodes: 20, 60 minutes

Thoughts: I know I am really late watching this, but I finally did. I went in knowing this would hurt me and Lee Joon Gi already scared me this year ( damn this man) so I was fully prepared. I really wasn’t, it so much. (SPOIlERS) When Wang Eun and Park Soon Deok died I sob like a baby (SPOILER ENDING). It took me a long time to finish this show because its heart so much, like it physically hurt me. The show was really good, and heartbreaking, and the ending stabs me in the heart 20 times. Rating: Lee Joon Gi is trying to kill me with tears.

Persona ( Lee Kyoung Mi, Yim Pil Sung, Jeon Go Woon, and Kim Jong Kwan, 2019)

Main Leads: Lee Ji Eun (IU)

Episodes: 4, 19 to 27

Thoughts: This is a collection of mini-films by directors. 4 separate stories are starring Lee Ji Eun. I thought all of them good, especially “ Kiss Burn” and “Walking at Night.” There isn’t much else to this, more than it is an artistic display of filmmaking. Rating: Hipster Kdrama

Come and Hug Me ( Choi Joon-bae, 2018)

Main Leads: Jang Ki-Yong and Jin Ki-Joo

Episodes: 32, 35 minutes

Thoughts: I actually just finished this show today. I really liked it, I thought it was both sweet and heartwarming/wrenching. I hated that one journalist and the public like why are they blaming a victim. I didn’t watch it with my full mind because I’ve been distracted lately, but I did enjoy it. Rating: another cute but sad couple.

Thoughts: I watched this at like 12 am after a bad day and it was cute. I love RomCom fantasy, which I think Korean media does really well. I don’t know what else to say except it is a really cute romance. Rating: Is it the ghost or the butterflies

The Host ( Bong Joon Ho, 2006)

Main Cast: Song Kang Ho and Byun Hee Bong and Park Hae Il and Bae Doona and Go, Ah Sung

Running Time: 119

Thoughts: This film I had to actually watch for class. It was a really good film which is expected from Bong Joon Ho. I love monster films and I thought this was a good rendition of this film. Also, The monster was so cool especially from 2006. I thought it was heartbreaking, stirring, and so beautifully shot. Rating: Oscar-worthy Direction

Little Forest ( Yim Soon-rye, 2018)

Main Cast: Kim Tae Ri and Ryu Jun Yeol and Moon So Ri and Jin Ki Joo

Running Time: 103 minutes

Thoughts: I really, really liked this film. It reminded me so much of I’ll Find You When The Weather is Nice (2020) that I thought that it was based on this film but it isn’t. I have watched this film 3 times since October and every time I watch it have made bread. I really just love everything about this film, how quiet it is, the cinematography, the acting, just everything. Rating: Three loaves of bread.

Always ( Song Il Gon, 2011)

Main Cast: So Ji Sub and Han Hyo Joo

Running Time: 106 Minutes

Thoughts: I thought it was okay, I watched it while I was knitting so I was distracted a bit. But I thought the couple was sweet, and the characters were interesting. Rating: It's Okay.

Main Cast: Moon Ga Young and Cha Eun Woo and Hwang In Yeop

Episodes: 16, 70 minutes

Thoughts: This is currently an ongoing series that is actually really popular. Apparently, it is based on a webtoon, which I haven’t read. I like it so far, I always liked Moon Ga Young and I think she is a great actress. She plays Im Ju Kyung in a likable and insecure way, instead of someone annoying which could easily happen. I will be continuing watching. Rating so far: Okey dokey yo.

Live On ( Kim Sang-woo, 2020-)

Main Cast: Jung Da Bin and Hwang Min Hyun

Episodes: 8?, 60 Minutes

Thoughts: I really Like this show. The main couple is sweet and supportive. I really like the female lead, I like that she is cold and kinda quiet, but with a sweet spot if you are not a dick. I really like the main relationship conflict comes from friendship instead of romance, I think it makes the show more interesting. Rating: I want to Join a Broadcast group.

I actually don’t have anything else on my list so if anyone has recommendations please tell me. I am thinking about watching Mr. Queen ( 2020) because I really like Shin Hye Sun. I also want to watch Sweet Home (2020) the Netflix series. But please recommend me some dramas!!!

This is such a long list, and I had fun doing it and going back over all the dramas. I hope everyone has a good New year and that we will have many more good dramas in 2021!

meanwhile kim yerim was the polar opposite. checkered skirt, straight hair pulled back by a headband, buttoned up sweater over a white collared button up - yeri seemed like the epitome of the perfect school girl. though, their time alone was a different story. sweet giggles between gentle pecks, hiked up skirts and soft caresses, soft glances that spoke more than words. moments that will always stay ingrained in her memory.

oh, and how could she ever forget park sooyoung. the young and charismatic business major who took her breath away. flirtatious winks and lip bites sent while passing in the hallways turned to checkered blazers throw on the floor and high waisted paints unbuttoned. yes, jamie’s experience with soo was one for the books. the girl was such professional in front of others it was hard to see her the way she was with jamie behind closed doors.

Sunshine (Counselor!Hoseok x Counselor!Reader)

Summary: Reader and Hoseok are working at a summer camp as counselors for the fourth year in a row. Little do they know, they have been falling in love with each other just a little bit more each summer.

Summer had always been your favorite season. The way the hot air made your skin tingle, the smell of sunscreen, the constant availability of the outdoors, and most of all, Jung Hoseok. He was a counselor at Camp Bangtan, a summer camp where you also worked as a counselor.

Hoseok was not only great with the kids, he was also very kind to everyone else. He was the sweetest man you had ever met. He was very gentle and funny, and his boisterous laugh could be heard from all the way across the camp, even over Camp Counselor Jin’s windshield wiper laughs. The way Hoseok smiled at you every morning from across the mess hall always sent your face alight. The kids would repeatedly ask you why your face was so red, and you would reply with “It’s just a little sunburn” every time. Of course, being the naive, young kids they were, they would believe anything you told them.

It would be an understatement to say that you had a crush on Hoseok. You had been working with him for the past four summers, and it wasn’t until a few weeks before the beginning of this season at the camp that you realized how excited you were to see Hoseok again. However, you didn’t know if he felt the same way about you since he treated you just as nicely as he did everyone else. He treated you no differently than any of his other female coworkers. In fact, he actually seemed to give another female coworker, Jisoo, special treatment. It was like he was always trying to be around her, making her laugh, or her making him laugh louder than any of his best friends could. They tended to be joined at the hip most days, it seemed.

It didn’t completely discourage anything, but it did make it more difficult. Every time you had gathered up the courage to tell Hoseok how you truly felt about him, he and Jisoo would be joking around or he would be too busy with the campers. The times you were alone with him, it was for very brief periods of times, and it only seemed to be when you two were putting out the embers of the bonfires every night.

You were now laying in your camper cot in your cabin with your group, thinking about how you failed to talk to him yet again tonight. Not another day was to go by without you telling him, you decided. Tomorrow was a free-for-all day, meaning that the kids could do whatever they wanted, and the camp counselors could lay back a little bit. All of that meant more free time. You were going to find Hoseok and tell him how you truly felt, no matter if he was with his friends or Jisoo. You would pull him aside and get your feelings out, and that was final.

The next day rolled around, and it was shortly after lunch when you decided to go look for Hoseok. You first went by the lake. Most of the kids were off swimming, and Namjoon, Jin, and Yoongi said they had not seen Hoseok.

After that, you then went to the sand volleyball court where he was talking to Jisoo. Of course, he was. You slinked behind a tree, hoping to not be seen and thought to be stalking. That was exactly what you were doing, though, but it wasn’t like you were trying to plan their demises. You were just there to see if Hoseok would stick around or leave. So much for braving up and telling him no matter what.

As you stood there, trying your best to not be seen by anybody, you also tried zoning in on their conversation. Why would you have to be bored simply because you were standing there? You were a little bit nosy anyhow, so listening in was nothing new for you.

“I just don’t see what is so difficult about it, Hobi,” Jisoo said, keeping an eye on her campers as they bumped the ball around.

“Everything about it is difficult!” Hoseok argued back.

He didn’t seem angry, just perplexed. You wondered what they could have been arguing about. However, you didn’t get the chance to find out. A few campers had walked on the trail behind you, and one of them had noticed you.

“Ms. (Y/N), what are you doing?” a voice asked.

You jumped and so did your heart. You quickly turned around and placed a hand over your heart. It was just one of the smaller campers, maybe around eight years of age.

“Oh! Jae-hyun. I didn’t realize you were there. You scared me,” you said with a light laugh as your heart rate began to finally slow. The small child still gave you a bewildered look as to what you had actually been doing. “The owner just wanted me to check on the counselors and see how they were acting around one another. You know, just making sure that they are getting along.”

You really hoped Jae-hyun and the older camper couldn’t see through your lie.

The older one, Kang-min, about age twelve, gave a scoff. “Well, I can tell you right now that Counselor Taehyung and Counselor Jungkook are getting along really well.”

“Yeahhhh,” Jae-hyun interjected. “They were kissing alone in the cabin. I didn’t know that two boys were allowed to kiss!”

“Of course they can, you idiot. Boys and boys can kiss just as much as boys and girls.” The two then forgot about you and started to walk away, still carrying on conversation.

You sighed in relief. They were finally gone. You could now go back to watching Jisoo and…apparently not Hoseok. He had walked off since Jae-hyun and Kang-min had interrupted you. You groaned and gave a simple stomp. Great. Now, you had to go all over the camp to look for him again.

You looked around the surrounding areas in hopes that he hadn’t gone far. There was no sign of him. As much as you hated to do this, you knew that you had to ask Jisoo. You sighed to yourself before coming out from behind the tree and walking up to the sand court, calling her name. When she heard you, she turned around, and you began to jog up to her.

“Do you know where Hobi went?” you asked her.

“He went looking for you, actually. I think he went up near the meadow.” A smile then formed across her lips. “Good luck.”

You gave her a light smile in return. “Thanks,” you said before heading up towards the meadow.

It was a five-minute walk to the meadow, and the entire time you were walking, you were also thinking about why exactly Hoseok needed you. Advice on how to ask out Jisoo? Sure, you set up Taehyung and Jungkook, who were really good friends with Hoseok outside of camp. But what was so difficult for him? It apparently had nothing to do with Jisoo. But what could he possibly want from you?

Your mind was running wild until you reached the edge of the meadow, where Hoseok was just walking your way down the path. He had a solemn look on his face, almost as if he was disappointed.

“Hoseok,” you said, getting his attention.

He looked up at you, and his eyes seemed to instantly brighten. A huge grin spread over his face, showing off his blindingly white teeth.

“(Y/N),” he said.

“Jisoo said you were looking for me?”

A blush dusted his cheeks now. “Uh, yeah. Can…can I talk to you?” He threw his thumb over his shoulder, gesturing back to the meadow of yellow flowers.

“Yeah, sure. Let’s go.” The two of you trudged up the small hill and to the center of the field. When the two of you got there, he turned towards you. He reached out to grab your hands, but decided against it, putting his hands back to his sides. You shrugged it off and asked him, “So, what is it that you wanted to talk to me about?”

The blush returned to Hoseok’s cheeks, and he moved his mouth, but nothing came out. You tilted your head to him in confusion, signaling for him to go on.

He took a deep breath, gathered all of his courage, and said, “I really like you, (Y/N).”

“I like you, too, Hoseok.” You gave a small laugh. What was he trying to get at?

“No, (Y/N), I really like you. Like…like like. God, I sound like a preteen.” He put his face in his hands in embarrassment.

“I like like you, too, Hoseok,” you said lightly with a smile.

Hoseok peeked through his fingers before completely uncovering his face. “Wait. What? Seriously?”

“Yeah. Honestly, I think I should be the one surprised here. By the looks of it, I would have thought that you had feelings for Jisoo.”

“Jisoo? Nononono. She’s my cousin.”

“Wait. What? Your cousin? You’re kidding me, right?” Now, you were the one to be embarrassed.

Hoseok shook his head. “I’m completely serious, (Y/N). She’s my cousin.”

“Ugh. How did I not know this?” you groaned.

“Ahhhh, (Y/N). It’s okay. Not even all my friends really know.”

“Really?”

“Yes.”

You stepped up to him and placed your forehead on his chest and started laughing. “I can’t believe I was an idiot.”

You felt Hoseok lift your chin up with his index finger. “A beautiful idiot,” he said, a soft smile gracing his soft pink lips.

You knew it was a little soon, but at this point in time, you didn’t care. You stood up on your tip-toes and gave him a light kiss on the lips. Hoseok’s kiss back was a little more passionate than you would have expected from him, but you weren’t going to complain.
