favorite part of the whole kane chronicles and pjo being in the same universe thing is that lacy and drew canonically go to the same school as carter and sadie and because my favorite hc is that percy and annabeth are the camp's Older Siblings™️ they inevitably have a day where percy and annabeth are visiting from nr and are like "we want to visit one of our top three favorite aphrodite kids" and the two of them go to brooklyn academy and surprise lacy, but also don't realize that carter and sadie are also there, so there's a moment where lacy is shrieking with excitement and running to hug percy and annabeth while carter and sadie stare at them with shocked faces and lacy explains how percy and annabeth got to the same summer camp as her and drew and it just ends up being the spiderman meme because carter and sadie finally put the pieces together

this may be a controversial opinion
but i think if Carter fought Percy in the desert, and only in the desert-
Carter would win

WHY IS THERE SO LITTLE CONTENT OF KANE CHRONICLES
7 notes · View notes
Carter and Sadie's relationship was accurate
Am I the only one who thinks that in the Kane Chronicles, the sibling dynamic between Carter and Sadie is impeccable? I know some people say Sadie is too harsh but in real sibling relationships we say way more triggering stuff? Idk man I just feel like their entire dynamic is in a constant state of either ride-or-die or sibling banter and I love it

Riordanverse characters who never interact in canon, yet I'm convinced they'd be best friends: A compiled list with explanations because I think about this way to often.
1) Georgina (Trials of Apollo) & Harley (Heroes of Olympus & Trials of Apollo)
There are four works in the Georgina & Harley tag on ao3, and all four have been written by me, that's how series I am about this friendship.
Firstly, I headcanon that the reason there's no year rounders during The Sun and The Star is because most of them decided to go to Waystation to attend school. Harley's eight in The Hidden Oracle and has already been at camp for at least a year and a half, minimum (as he's in the Hephaestus Cabin in The Lost Hero, and it's stated that no Hephaestus kid as come to camp in months before Leo), so why else would he all of a sudden not be a year rounder? He's certainly not staying to fight in the wars like some other demigods.
Now, back to Georgie and Harley. They're only a year apart, if that, and the other is probably the first person they've ever met close to their age, which would definitely spark friendship. Secondly, both of them have a sibling-like relationship with Leo (I almost started sobbing when Leo told Harley about how he was the one who helped him find his way back home in The Hidden Oracle, Leo and Harley are such an underrated sibling pair), which will bond them. And three, both are incredibly artistic and love building things. Just imagine Georgie and Harley drawing plans for the Waystation together? Adorable.
2) Kayla Knowles (Percy Jackson & Trials of Apollo) & Sadie Kane (Kane Chronicles)
They'd dye their hair together, chew bubblegum and eat lollypops, complain about their nerdy older brothers, and show off their skills to each other. They'd be an unstoppable duo.
3) Alex Fierro (Magnus Chase) & Lavinia Asimov (Trials of Apollo)
Queer kid with a designated color pallet, a non-common weapon, whom is incredibly artistic? You can't tell whether I'm talking about Alex or Lavinia (hint, it's both)
Match made in Elysium (or Valhalla in Alex's case). Lavinia would show Alex some simple tap steps, and Alex would show off her pottery skills, and teach some to Lavinia. Lavinia thinks Alex's garrote is the coolest thing ever, and Alex keeps petitioning for a manuballista fight in Valhalla. (Odin has not agreed yet, but Alex is not deterred in the slightest).
4) Kayla Knowles, Sadie Kane, Alex Fierro, & Lavinia Asimov
You're not surprised in the slightest, are you? These four make a deadly quartet of died hair, weapons, and bubblegum, and I adore them for it. As for why I did Kayla & Sadie and Lavinia & Alex seperately, it's because I think they'd be closest with their respectively friend pairing, but also they'd make a great friend group. I'm already in love.
5) Hazel Levesque (Heroes of Olympus & Trials of Apollo) & Butch Walker (Heroes of Olympus)
Intimidating son of a non-intimidating goddess and a non-intimidating daughter of an intimidating god. Also, they both adore horses, and I could totally see them hanging out in the Pegasus stables when Hazel's visiting Camp Half-Blood.
6) Nico di Angelo (Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus, Trials of Apollo, & The Sun and the Star) & Blanche (Chalice of the Gods)
The second Child of Hades/Pluto & Child of Iris friendship??? But seriously, these two would be besties. Both only ever dress in monochromatic clothing, and Blanche is literally known for her ghost stories at camp and Nico is the Ghost King? Blanche would beg Nico to help her out with her photography—the Hades Cabin is literally her aesthetic to the tee, and she loves photographing dead things. Nico would summon a skeleton so she could photograph it on dead grass Nico accidently killed.
And if they did joint ghost stories? All I'm saying is they could charge an admission fee and the amphitheatre would still be full. (The effects they can do with Blanche's, well blanching, power, and Nico's shadow manipulating would go insane)
7) Piper McLean (Heroes of Olympus & Trials of Apollo) and Silena Beauregard (Percy Jackson)
They would be that sibling pair at camp, and it's such a horror that we never got to experience it.
Silena would help Piper tap into her more feminine side, and show her that not all femininity is bad—which Piper has a lot of trauma revolving—and I think would help Piper come to terms with her feelings for Jason and her queerness a lot faster than it actually happened, because Silena would help her talk through it instead of bottling it up. (Besides, Silena knows all about crushing on boys and girls *cough* Beckendorf and Clarisse *cough*).
In turn, I think Piper would help Silena with her fighting skills and strength. Yes, Silena has Clarisse, but Clarisse is a hit hard and don't back down fighter, while Piper would be more patient, which is what Silena would need. Also, they both know what it's like to be manipulated and have to make choices about whether or not their friends and family will live or die, and that's a common ground for them both.
8) Nico di Angelo & Mitchell (Heroes of Olympus)
This is solely because of the fic, Gurrlfriend by Erikthonius on ao3. Honestly, if you've read that, you'd understand where I'm coming from. I don't have any other evidence besides that.
There will probably be more where this came from!

Whenever I see people ask why The Kane Chronicles are so underrated I want to rant about it so here it goes:
Releasing it too soon. The Red Pyramid was released in 2010, only a year after The Last Olympian. After the success of his first series people were hungry for Percy Jackson. It did not help that it was announced a sequel so soon, with The Lost Hero programmed to release in 2010. Maybe if they did not announce the sequel of Percy Jackson so soon and pushed The Lost Hero for 2011, leaving 2010 solely for The Red Pyramid, the fans would feel more compelled to read the Kane Chronicles as a way to pass the time or maybe have a Percy cameo.
Writing style. Although I like the idea of multi-POV and the two siblings sending the author a recording, it felt badly executed at times. There were situations that I forgot it was supposed to be a recording and sometimes the change between Sadie and Carter broke the flow of the situations. I believe many people did not enjoy this style. I don't hate it at all, but it could have been better executed.
I know people won't like what I'm about to say, but I don't care. The initial dislike for Carter Kane simply for being black. Many people from the communities I participated in complained about Carter Kane. Saying he was not interesting, he was annoying or a cheap copy of Percy. But I have my suspicions people did not give the book a chance because most readers could not project on Carter. Carter is the first narrator we are introduced: a black teenage boy. Because of that, many people dislike the book from the start. Many white folks have a hard time projecting onto characters that are explicitly described as being POC. You can try to fight me on this, but it's the plain truth.
Egyptian mythology was not that explored in fiction. Unless you consider the Mummy franchise - which does not really talk about mythology - there was almost nothing regarding Egyptian mythology targeting kids/teens media. As a consequence, it made people not really interested in reading The Kane Chronicles in the first place.
Now, those are my opinions as to why this series has not received so much attention from the fandom, I am not saying this is the truth at all! You can have a different opinion and share your thoughts as long as you are respectfull - or else I'll block you.

CERII THANK YOUUU OMG
okok so you didn’t give me much so forgive me if this is totally wrong (it might be) but after stalking tf out of your blog for like eight whole seconds i have decided on one of my fav severely underrated riordanverse characters:
carter kane (if you don’t know him istg go read the kane chronicles RN they’re soso good)
sweet, kind of sarcastic, actual nerd, funny, completely adorkable ™️ , super smart but a total idiot yk
would take you on coffee dates and museum dates and talk tf out of you about history n shit for hours. h o u r s. was homeschooled like me so is socially awkward fr but in the best way. knows too much about the world lol. has an annoying little sister who would adore you completely and probably try to steal you off him
would let you wear his sweaters WHENEVER like actually he’d just throw them at you the second you got in the door lmfao
he’s actually a gem i love him sm

whenever I see a poll about "which riordan mythology series is the best?" and hoo is pulling way ahead of tkc, I just. i can't help but feel such disappointment. it's just such an underrated series. I mean it has its problems like each book and characters that riordan writes has, but when you think about how rr was releasing kane chronicles books back to back with the heroes of olympus series - the red pyramid then the lost hero, then the throne of fire and then son of neptune, etc. - the writing quality is so glaring. when it came to heroes of olympus, rr put too much food on his plate (so to speak) for him to handle with all the character arcs and hyping up gaia (when that battle only lasted what? 3 pages?), and his characters (ok not all but we know who) were hyped up to have these huge roles and then... where did that go?
the tkc trilogy's writing is just leagues better imo. honestly, just the characters alone showcase the quality of writing. i feel like they got fleshed out sm more than the newer characters introduced in hoo did. pacing is much better. if you haven't read the series, well - this is your sign to do so.

Ok,I feel kinda hipocritical b/c i always say how underrated the kane chronicles are,but I haven't posted anything with them so let's change that today, with some headcanons!!
(Also sorry if some aren't accurate,I haven't read the books in a while)
Zia is incredible with lil kids, like she loves them. When somebody has to stay home with the little ones she always volunteers
(Carter always gets the butterflys when he sees her with the kids)
Sadie definitely gets piercings when she gets older
And Carter gets some tattos, just cuz
Idk why but I always love the hc that Walt is a great artist,I feel like it fits
The initiates that grew up in the Brooklyn House with no contact with their families refere to Sadie and Carter as their older siblings
Amos sometimes comes to Brooklyn to teach some of the kids how to sing to various instruments
In the winter the Brooklyn House becomes the North Pole, thanks to Felix, and they make snowmen inside and they definitely did a sled race down the stairs
Zia complaints all winter that is too cold because she grew up in freaking Egypt,so she isn't really a fan low temperatures
But it's okay cuz Carter is there to snuggle with her to keep her warm
I feel like Walt took Sadie to an amusment Park one time on a date, and oh boy did he regret it.Sadie beat his ass at every game and then ate too much cotton candy and threw up while they were riding a rollercoster.
Yea,it's safe to asume he didn't take her to another amusment park ever again
I have more ideas so I think I'll be posting more of these.Oh,and I KNOW my grammer is trash but I tried.

Weekend Top Ten #643
Top Ten by Daughter #1: “Top Ten Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus/Trials of Apollo/Magnus Chase characters(I would do Kane Chronicles but I’ve not read it yet) explained in great detail.”
Yes, it’s another one of those weeks; the weeks were, due to chronological happenstance, I turn my beloved listicle factory over to one of my precocious broodlings. This week: Daughter #1, the older one.
It’s of no surprise to anyone that’s encountered her in the last year that she’s chosen to focus on the works of one Rick Riordan. Mr Riordan is, for the uninitiated, the author of the book The Lightning Thief (2005) and its many subsequent follow-ups and spin-offs. In truth, Riordan has created a veritable shared universe starring contemporary demi-gods, factoring in pantheons of Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Norse mythology. It’s a bold and impressive undertaking, and one that she's fully immersed herself in; it’s fair to say it’s become her “thing”, the way at various points in my childhood Transformers, Garfield, or (when I was only a little bit older than she is now) The X-Files was my own particular “thing”.
Anyway, I asked her to write a list, and she came up with this. What follows is all her own work; ten characters, drawn from the fevered imagination of Rick Riordan, and organised in such a way as to represent a preferential ordering. Words and music are my daughter’s own. I shall step away, the producer moving to the back of the auditorium better to witness the production’s unfolding. My eyes will partly be on the stage, partly on the audience. The only alterations I have made are to ensure grammar, punction, and overall formatting is in line with my own internal style guide; and to highlight the first appearance of the given characters. Other than that: Daughter #1.
Take it away.
Tumblr media
Rachel Dare (The Titan’s Curse, 2007): she hits the Titan lord Kronos in the eye with a blue plastic hairbrush. I think I’m in love.
Octavian (The Son of Neptune, 2011): I know he is technically a villain and does try to kill Percy and the others several times, but I have written him a backstory and everything. I will die on this hill.
Alex Fierro (The Hammer of Thor, 2016): it’s Alex Fierro. No more needs to be said.
Nico di Angelo (The Titan’s Curse, 2007): gay disaster boy oh Hades thank you for making this angel child I love him so much but he is so sad oh someone please give him a hug his sister is dead. Thank you for giving Will a hug though #relationshipgoals #solangelo
Will Solace (The Last Olympian, 2009): amazing golden retriever boy but like half his cabin is dead omg someone give him a hug as well thank you for giving Nico a hug #relationship goals #solangelo
Apollo/Lester (The Titan’s Curse, 2007): he is so underrated but his character growth is amazing and his love for his children and Meg is so real.
Bianca di Angelo (The Titan’s Curse, 2007): my sweet child why did you have to die, you were only twelve, no now I’m crying. She was a hunter of Artemis.
Zoë Nightshade (The Titan’s Curse, 2007):  (I couldn’t put the little dots over the e in Zoe sorry [but I can, don’t worry – DH]) but she also died oh why “stars…I can see the stars again my lady” were her last words. No I’m not crying you are. Amazing girl also a hunter of Artemis, her lieutenant actually.
Lavina Asimov (The Tyrant’s Tomb, 2019): she is amazing and glorious and has pink hair. Beautiful.
Hazel Levesque (The Son of Neptune, 2011): my precious daughter of Pluto.
My personal takeaways from this – having not read the books but having seen the Disney+ series – is that Daughter #1 apparently doesn’t actually like Percy, the main character? Yeah? Is that right? Or Annabeth, his girlfriend? Or Grover, literature’s second-most-famous faun? Also, I can only assume that The Titan’s Curse is the most significant book in the entire saga.
Anyway, happy birthday, and see you all again next year.

Finished Kane Chronicles! Was too busy to write anything up when I finished Throne of Fire so I'll just squish it in here with Serpent's Shadow. I remember thinking these books were super underrated as a kid and I still think they're a bit underrated tbh. Carter and Sadie are really fun narrators, the secondary cast are full of gems, and I loved the themes and plot of the story. Serpent's Shadow is still my favorite of the three, there's a sense of urgency throughout the book and it has some of the best, most memorable moments. Particularly, everything with Walt was something I grasped better now that I'm an adult and had more of an idea of what it would be like to live under a curse like that. I still have a soft spot in my heart for Felix, bless his little penguin-shaped heart, and I ended up liking both Zia and Sadie way more than I did as a child when I was stuck in my I'm Not Like Other Girls phase. Both Zia and Sadie are fantastic and I love them with all my heart.
Something that surprised me now that I've reread Kane Chronicles tho was the way Carter didn't really have much to do??? Poor boy spends three books getting kicked around and saved by his sister I don't think this poor boy had a single victory to his name aside from the airport scene in The Red Pyramid. I don't think it really clicked in my mind just how often Carter was incapacitated until I read through the entire trilogy again and thought to myself, "why are you even pharaoh..."
(I still love Carter)
Overall had a really fun time rereading Kane Chronicles!

3. What ideas come from when you were little
Oh, this is SUCH a good question! Big sashes around the waist for fantasy-setting characters (directly inspired by LOZ: Twilight Princess), magic changing appearance, big eyebrows, and other things I can't think of right now.
If you mean story ideas: In Interim was a story I began right before high school as a Percy Jackson/Kane Chronicles rip off. There's this story that's been through many titles that hasn't found its footing yet: Stolen Heart > Glass Prince > Cerulean Rose. Still don't know what it is. I've always wanted to write a dragon rider story inspired by the pterodactyl flying academy in the Dinotopia mini series.
9. What are your file name conventions
I title it after the subject. I keep yearly folders with my art, and within those are folders relating to subjects. I mainly work on procreate now which doesn't have a good folder system, but here's a peek into my art folder.
Tumblr media
12. Easiest part of body to draw
Heads. In high school I mostly drew busts/waists up, so anything waist down is hard. I'm so bad at drawing legs and feet. I also love drawing hands and it's fun when they look funky.
30. What piece of yours do you think is underrated
THIS ONE I worked so god damn hard on it and drew a whole horse that looks good. I used colors I don't normally do, tried something new with rendering, and did a background with reference. It slaps. I'm going to rb it after I post this.
