25. Wet kisses after finding refuge from the rain.

Scheduled for today was suppose to be an exuberant festival, brimful of phenomenal units and collaborations that took time to cultivate and gather together, but before preparations could even be finished, murky clouds rolled in to disfigure everyone’s hard work.

A dense downpour swallowed the world whole, engulfing every corner of ES with inescapable surges of rain. With your bag plopped atop your head, you dashed through the streets until you found a bus shelter harboring only one other person.

Your heart pulsated to the beat of the droplets pounding the earth, cheeks warm from exertion while the rest of you felt icy. You could cast that sensation aside in favor of fretting over the idol ensnared under the shelter with you—it looked like he wasn’t too affected since he likely ducked into cover at the first sign.

“Here, use my jacket to dry off and keep warm,” you told him, pulling out the dry article of clothing from your bag and leaning on your tiptoes to cover his shoulders in it, “I’m going to call you a taxi right now.”

As you didn’t squander another second in fishing out your cellphone, the idol’s quiet voice resounded underneath the dizzying rain, “Thanks, Producer.”

The fact that you were soaked to the core didn’t matter to you, as it was your duty to protect and help the idols first and foremost. It was the reason you went out of your way to stop in at the shelter instead of a nearby store. 

And fortunately, it didn’t take too long for someone to pull in and pick up the idol. The taxi was packed due to the sheer amount of workers and people, so you promised them you’d catch the next available taxi and sent them all on their way.

Heaving a sigh, you wrung out your shirt and watched despondently as a stream of water spilled forth onto the ground. “Puka puka…♪ [Name]-san,” a familiar voice called out to you, his silhouette emerging from the thick rain with an umbrella shrouding his already wet figure.

“Kanata-san! What are you doing out here?” you gasped, shifting away from the entrance to allow him space to shut his umbrella and come inside your little sanctuary. Actually, it was a little strange to see him using an umbrella in the first place…

��I was doing some shopping when I saw you run by through the window~” Kanata clarified, dangling the plastic bag on his other arm to prove his statement. “So I bought an umbrella and chased after you.”

Ah, he must’ve gotten caught in the rain before dropping in to impulse buy things, but…

”You didn’t have to buy that for my sake. It was my fault for not being prepared in case it rained.”

Hearing you blame yourself made Kanata frown, and he encouraged you softly as his body shuffled closer to yours, “The weather is fickle, it always has surprises for everyone~ You’re not responsible.”

Instinctively, you pressed your forehead onto Kanata’s chest and snuggled up to his emanating heat. “Everyone was looking forward to today… Sora-kun and I even made weather dolls. He was so excited, I feel like I let him down by not making absolute sure we could withstand anything that came,” you explained, spilling your dejected thoughts.

You were starting to feel absolute frigid, your veins glaciating with anxiety and body racking with quivers—and you weren’t sure if it was only your own feelings that made you feel this way, or if you really were starting to feel the effects of being drenched too.

Kanata’s hands cascaded through your hair mollyfingly, hoping to soothe your aches with tender and chaste care. He dropped his bag in order to completely envelope you in his arms and cradle you as close as he possibly could; wanting you to feel every inch of him and know he’s here for you.

“How are you still so warm, Kanata-san? You’re wet, too… but I feel so comforted by it,” you sighed against him, the gentle feeling of your breath seeping through the shirt stuck to his skin and eliciting goosebumps.

“It’s a nice feeling for me, too~” Kanata whispered, fingers rubbing up and down your arms, “And you know, [Name]-san, the yellow kid would be even more sad if you got sick… I bet he’s even looking for you right now♪”

Kanata didn’t say anything special or out of the ordinary, yet you could feel yourself melting into solace by his words and actions. It was precisely because Kanata was here with you, that you could believe what he told you.

“Thank you, Kanata-san… I love you so much!” Giving his slender body a taut squeeze, listening attentively to the diminutive giggle that bubbled in his throat and smiling from it, you then stepped back from him—looking him up and down, you noticed that abundant drops of water still rolled down the crevices of his body.

Just as you began to reach your hand onto his cheek, Kanata’s eyes twinkled with delight and he interlocked your fingers with his as he seized your hand; and he pulled you forward as his head dipped down to match your height.

The sensation of his wet, velvety lips kissing yours made your heart spring erratically. You tasted the translucent rain on your tongue as you gripped Kanata tightly in fear of floating away, his benevolent love overwhelming you.

Parting your lips, Kanata beamed, “I love you too… I won’t let the rain wash you away, so you can depend on your hero to protect you♪”
