Update, turns out those two different scenes are part of these "leaks", but the criticism stays the same; the details are different in such an obvious way when comparing them -im not talking about drawing style, but the ways objects are depicted in different ways. For example, I thought the right one could be a real one or closer to it as the suitcase follows the description we got in 430 -on the sides there are white spaces in a particular geometrical shape, shrinking at the end of the sides, and has some other details under it. In the left one we get a clear rectangular white shape with nothing under it, getting bigger and taking the whole space. I still dont know how Izuku's face looks so wrong in both, or why in the same "chapter" we would get even less details in a scene just to add some more in the next page.

No matter what happens, this is still a sloppy job where we jump to different qualities from page to page, and never getting the actual level of skill the author has shown previously in the same volume.

There are some more backgrounds with more details too, but a big part of it doesnt have that at all making it feel weirder; the moments that look better are because the light work improves, but still there are scenes with worse shading than others in the middle of it -the ack of consistency cant be justified by not having enough time, as this probably was one of the chapters with most time to work on ever in BNHA.

Idk how much pressure there was, im not part of that world and ill never get what it feels like, but theres no way to consider this a great close to the series both as a story and as art -the bad anatomy doesnt make sense to me, as some stuff like Deku's finger going down weren't typical mistakes (even as a complete beginner you just had to go out of your way to depict holding a glass like that).

I don't see BNHA when I read whatever this is, I see repeating chapters 428-430 in order to quickly tell us Ochako's character isnt completed unless she tries to date Deku. Its repetitive, we go back to the past and reverse the characters (both Izuku and Ochako live in the past, even if they are trying to accomplish things everything they do turns out to be an act tinted by guilt and shame over the war according to these "leaks") without saying anything new besides what look like little character fun facts.

The lack of All Might and Wonder Duo makes this feel like it isnt BNHA, like it could never be that in the universe "431" suggested.

What if it's confirmed these aren't real pages and we've been upset over some fanart???

Like this looks like hori's old art style (or in some panels not at all like his art??) Like here's his re-draw of that one Deku scene compared to a scene in the epilogue

like??? He's had so much time to work on it,so why would it look like his old art style? Especially if we can expect to see THAT (on the right) in the same volume??? Something is fishy here.

like the only people confirming this is real/cannon are leakers,and even some of the Japanese fandom is confused/upset about this. I haven't seem any of the official announcements for this,and a TON of the pages are missing. Like they're meant to be 30+and there's only like what the same ten going around?

If these were leaks they wouldn't be so high quality and they would,y'know,look like hori's art style? I know I said some of it looked ai generated,and I still do think some panels do,but this really feels like a different manga.

Story and art wise this feels empty and disconnected from the series. Like it's the exact opposite of what happened in 430. Like Hori decided that he hated Katsuki and forgot all about literally everything to do with Izuku and Katsuki's relationship?

He said he didn't want a naruto ending,but he decided to give us one in the epilogue??? He said he wanted an ending like heroes rising,so he decided to contradict the whole damn movie for this epilogue????

Nothing makes sense about this. I have hope this isn't official,but honestly I'm starting to give up on Hori,and I don't like that. I always trusted him to write what he wanted,but what I've seen and read doesn't seem like Horikoshi's,it's not mha. It feels like a dudebro wrote this.

Like Izuku is so emotionless in this. It's empty. He's empty. And I'm supposed to believe this guy drew all of THIS and decided to go back on all of it with a few pages????

I really don't think this epilogue is going to be official,I HOPE it isn't,but I haven't much of a reason to think Hori wrote/drew this horse shit. Besides leakers saying so. And I don't really trust them very much,so I don't really have any reasons to think this is cannon.

[BNHA LEAKS] The Last Word on Jirou Shipping?

As someone who has had platonic kamijirou brotp as a special interest for three years, I am BEYOND PLEASED to share my translation of a scene from the upcoming Volume 42 extra chapter!

Context: 1-A is having a reunion as adults, and in the previous panel, two former UA kids who are now dating were discussed. Sero points out that Kaminari and Jirou now work close by to each other, something Horikoshi showed in a background of the final chapter with their clearly-themed hero offices. The will-they-wont-they destruction scene is building towards a dekuchako moment within the chapter, which... well... Good Luck Charlie.

SO! Jirou is someone who grounds Kaminari, and they laughed at the idea of dating! Folks thought Hori was hinting as a romo ending for them with the offices, but alas. It seems that back in highschool, Kaminari probably never had feelings for Jirou even though moments like the war arc vision had many people convinced it was canon. When he thinks of their time together, he thinks of comfort, which makes sense considering he probably got ptsd from this. The idea she will still be an important bestie as he learns to make it on his own as an adult is so good! Hilariously, Jirou is leaning into Momo as she deflects this notion, which is really something.

Loads of people really did assume this scene was meant to be romantic, but I've always been a firm believer its not. Tokoyami literally says "Kaminari, I know.... that you care deeply about your friends" in this scene to no-romo it lol. It would have been an obvious moment to start confirming kamjirou if it was real. Of course, nothing is off the table going forward speculating about everyone's adulthoods!

But as a non-shipper, I strongly stand by the idea that the flirty guy learning to respect a girl as a buddy in these scenes was WAY DEEPER than him..

uh, falling for someone he didn't initially find hot.. ?

and considering we never hear about Jirou's attraction to anyone besides one brief joke in a 4-koma about Kirishima, I think this is WAY better!

also, we now have an official image of them reacting to the idea of romo kamijirou in-universe. the thrilling conclusion.

Actually, now I'm thinking about it, it's odd to me that Midoriya and Uraraka look similar and maybe that's on purpose.

Round eyes & face

Facial marks (Freckles for Midoriya, blush stickers for Uraraka)

"Brunette" (green hair is considered being a brunet/te in anime logic)

Shorter than the others

Now given that, what if Uraraka "falling in love" with Midoriya wasn't her actually falling in love? What if it was her having a self-reflection and accepting herself?

Further thinking about it... they're practically the same person.

They're both compassionate, kind. They learn to adapt to changes. They're cute, but they're vicious if pushed far enough. They won't give up on people or in a fight. Hell, they both float, use long range attacks, and close range ones. Works in teams of three (Uraraka-Asui-Hado, Midoriya-Bakugou-Todoroki) under a top Pro Hero.

And they both "rival" some feral blond that they don't act "normal" around.

What if Midoriya wasn't meant to be Uraraka's crush but her mirror? Mind you whenever someone points out her "crush" it's not someone you would turn to for love advice.

Aoyama is Aoyama (think about that reveal), Ashido practically ships anybody with anybody when there's no real chemistry, and Toga has a twisted concept of love.

You really think I would trust any of them on telling me I have a "crush"?

There's also the fact that Uraraka herself during her talk with Midoriya says they're both "oddballs". That whole talk during 342 comes off more as someone talking about their feelings about their identity and relating to a friend who feels the same about themselves than supposedly "romantic". When someone is called an "oddball", it means that person is "weird". They're not part of the "norm".

Sometimes it comes off as having different interests, like someone liking the arts unlike the majority of the group who likes sports.

Or it's someone who identifies as queer.

What if these last few chapters of Toga and Uraraka was Uraraka accepting herself?

@darkcircles4lyfe points out a detail that I didn't catch until now in this post here.

In this scene, Toga has a hold of that All Might keychain. We know it's of importance to Uraraka because Midoriya gave it to her. We also know that once before Uraraka snatched it away from her when Toga first got a hold of it during the PLF War Arc. Here, she doesn't do it. Granted, because she's bang the hell up and probably even isn't aware of her surroundings. But on Horikoshi's part, what if that's on purpose? What if here, Toga is taking the keychain as a way of saying Uraraka is finally accepting herself and her feelings? That Midoriya was that mirror she kept looking into and questioning until this very moment?

And let's be honest here, it's not like Horikoshi isn't incapable of writing M/F ships. I just think IzuOcha is a ship he doesn't intend to make romantic because of how underdeveloped it is.

Compare it to Kamijirou and Kirimina, it is pale. Also, make note of those two pairs.

The characters in those ships also have opposing physical features.

Kamijirou - dark and light hair colors, the extrovert and the introvert

Kirimina - Spiky hair and curly hair, sharp edges and round curves

A lot of pairs Horikoshi puts together in which the characters are close (romantic or platonic) have some opposing features to them.

Gentle Crimimal and La Brava - tall and short, dark hair and light hair, one is more hands on and the other isn't

Eraser Head & Present Mic - quiet and loud, dark hair and light hair, close combat & long range

Bakugou's and Jiro's parents - quiet & loud, dark hair and light hair

It's his shtick.

But for Midoriya and Uraraka? They are just genderbend versions of each other!

That's really all I have to say here. And if you disagree, fine. Don't care for the input though, keep it to yourselves. (I say this because some of you are just damn disrespectful.)

I myself don't think IzuOcha is a bad ship, but I just don't think it's a ship Horikoshi has on his agenda. Let alone wants the audience to perceive them as "romantic" but as a "mirror".

I can imagine a scenario where Kaminari wanted to hang out so he text the group chat to meet up at the common lounge. Of course Sero and Kirishima was onboard but Bakugou was being difficult refusing to go which ended with Kirishima just dragging him out of his room. After that happened and they enter the elevator Bakugou just press the 2nd floor gets off and walks straight to tokoyami door knocking until he answers. Then when tokoyami does answer Bakugou ends up dragging him along probably saying something like “if I have to deal with them so do you”🌌

Bonus: Speaking of Tokoyami getting dragged along I love his friendship with Kaminari,Kirishma and Sero🕸️⚡️🪨

⚡️I’m so Thankful for the School festival arc since we were blessed with Kaminari and Tokoyami friendship! Wish we could of seen more moments of these Guitar buddies, especially since Tokoyami admires Kaminari so much. But I like to believe after the time skip Tokoyami was the wingman that helped Kamijirou get together⚡️

🪨 Just like with Kaminari I wish we could have seen more of Kirishima and Tokoyami friendship. Look how happy they are talking to each other and the fact Kirishima also collected the same key holder means that he could of had a emo phase as well. Also I’m 80% sure that most of there their conversation are about Bakugou, whether it be about how amazing he is in combat or how his behavior can be concerning🪨

🕸️ok we DEFINITELY needed more moments between Sero and Tokoyami their friendship is to underrated especially since they both were able to catch up with Bakugou during the obstacle course and would be straightforward when they need to be. Also I love how in the smash comic Sero decided to dress up as Tokoyami for Halloween,makes me wonder how much time and money he put into that costume to make it accurate enough that it tricked midoriya🕸️

I CAN’T STOP THINKING ABOUT how I saw someone’s slideshow on tiktok the other day and they said something like

IzuOcha becoming canon would mean that Horikoshi doesn’t know how to write romance. Their relationship isn’t even close to being romantic (besides the somehow undeniable?? argument that it’s shonen so it has to be canon, spoiler, it IS deniable since Horikoshi said he does what he wants loool). Maybe there was a crush from Ochaco at some point, but she’s past that and it’s obvious whenever we see their interactions past ~4th season. If they would become canon, that would be just bad writing. It wouldn’t make sense storywise.

BUT he DOES know how to write romance - look at the implied canon pairings like KamiJirou, HagaOjiro, KiriMina. we all agreed on them being canon not because they blush at each other, but they CARE for each other and WORRY about the other person

*insert KamiJirou first war scene „do it for someone who is closest to your heart”*

AND… because the canon pairings in bnha also have this little funny thing in common. Both sides inspire each other and in some ways they want to resemble each other too!!! I’ve noticed it especially in KiriMina, first when in Kirishima’s backstory he says that the „horns” he stylizes his hair into are inspired by Mina’s horns, and then when she said in s5ep25 that she created Acidman because of Kiri’s Unbreakable.

So, it looks like Horikoshi KNOWS how to write romance - because this is how it looks in real life. You care about your s/o, you worry about them, they inspire you, you know stuff about them because you’re curious about them, you want to spend time with them etc. It’s literally how every canon implied ship in BNHA is written. It’s not a surprise. It’s just good writing.

not IzuOcha for sure (they had their little moments but PLEASE we get TWO scenes of Ochaco moving on from Izuku. this isn’t canon at all)

Izuku strolled over to you on the couch and kissed your head gently. "I'm leaving now Puppy, I love you, I'll see you tonight." Smiling you kissed his lips gently, "K. See you tonight Zuku." Frowning slightly Izuku stood there for a few moments before gently petting your head, "I love you."

You nodded and grabbed his hand to leave a gentle kiss. "I know, bye Baby." Frowning deeper Izuku took both of your hands and made you look him in the eye. "I love you." ".... I know." "That's not what you're supposed to say." Izuku frowned. Forcing yourself not to break you say, "Bye~!" "Do you not love me?! What did I do wrong?! I'm so sorry! Finally not being able to take it you burst out in laughter. "No~! Baby~ it was a prank! I love you, I love you, I love you!" You exclaim, wrapping Izuku in your arms, kissing his forehead in between your multiple 'love yous'. "Oh, I thought you didn't love me anymore! (y/n)~ don't do that to me~!" Izuku whined, causing you to giggle even more.

Bakugou:

Your followers LOVED your husband. I mean, he was HILARIOUS! They ate up his reactions in literal seconds. Whenever you posted a prank, or any kind of video/short with him in it, it would instantly blow up. And so, you decided to do one of your followers recommendations.

I mean, you knew that your husband would explode, but you knew that he wouldn't kill his (s\o). Right??? And so, right before your husband was going to go out with his friends you set up a camera in your living room, hiding it with the number 2 hero Lord Explosion Murder Dynamite's merch (You have a LOT in your house, both bc you love your hubby to death, and he has the biggest ego in the MHA universe.)

Once the camera was set up you went back to the couch and scrolled on TikTok, replying to your followers here and there. When Bakugou finally came out of your bedroom you stopped yourself from giving in as you watched his muscles appreciatively. Holding strong, you swallowed as he walked towards you.

"Oi. I'm leaving now." Bakugou grunted, stooping down for you to kiss him. Kissing him teasingly you almost giggle as Bakugou huffed when you pulled away quicker then he wanted. "Oi. I said I'm leaving." "Okay. Have fun, future number one." You reply, intentionally not initiating an 'I love you' like usual. "I love you idiot." Bakugo muttered, a light blush on his cheeks.

Bakugou hardly ever said those three words, so you almost gave up. But you knew that this would EXPLODE so you decided to go on. "I know. Have fun." You reply, causing Bakugou to halt. "You're forgetting something." Bakugou growled, red eyes glaring daggers at you. "Hmm? Oh, be safe." You smile sweetly, internally dying inside.

"Say it. Now." Bakugou growled. "What do you want me to say? Keep Denki and Sero in line so you won't get kicked out again?" "Y know what. Forget it." Bakugou grumbled, turning to leave. "Wait Baby no~ it was just a prank!" You chase him as he walks out the door, apologizing profusely.

Shoto:

You really didn't want to do this. Like really, really didn't want to do this. But, Denki confessed to Jiro so you had to. You never broke your promises, ever. And one of this level? It would be a sin. I mean come on, you've been shipping them for at least four years, (You guys graduated U.A. like a year and a half ago) and have been trying to get them together for two.

Finally, Denki confessed and Jiro agreed on letting him take her on a date. So, you decided to put yourself, and your sweet husband in agony. A short lived agony, yet an agony all the same. (Yes, I am quite dramatic.) And so here you were, filming a prank video for Denki's prank channel.

If this became popular Denki made Izuku promise that he would confess to Ururaka, so you had to do your best, I mean come on~ two of your favorite ships FINALLY getting together? It was a dream come true! And so, here you were, on your and Shoto's bed, waiting for your beloved husband to say goodnight before he went on patrol.

Being the number 3 hero he usually took a late night shift so he could spend more time with you. (Sweet Baby <3) Giggling at a prank Mina pulled on Bakugou (Not a ship! I repeat, not a ship!) you were surprised when you felt Shoto lay on top of you.

"I gotta go Love, but I'll be back in about an hour. I love you, don't stay up all night watching Bakugo blow up again. Deal?" Shoto asked, causing you to giggle softly. "Only if you promise to not stay up fighting villains all night!" You tease, causing Shoto to sigh. "

"Love, you know that's out of my control." Shoto replied softly, giving you a sweet kiss on your neck, causing you to shiver with delight. "Same here! I mean come on, Bakugou being ignored is utterly hilarious! Also I need to show Denki some love, look at his channel! It's basically dying right now!" Chuckling softly Shoto gave you a kiss on your head.

"Okay, but once I get back you need to get off and show me some love instead. Okay?" Shoto compromised, earning a smirk from you. "Deal!" Smiling fondly Shoto gave you yet another kiss on your head. "Love you. Have a good night, I'll be back as soon as possible." "Come back soon~ but be safe!" You exclaim.

Shoto continued getting off of you and started walking downstairs, seemingly not noticing you failed to verbalize your love. You intensely listened as you waited for your beloved Shoto to come back up. You snorted as you heard Shoto's footsteps suddenly stop. You forced yourself to not giggle as Shoto walked up again, walking into your room he stood and just stared at you.

"Did you forget something?" You ask, completely smitten at the adorable look he gave you. "No, but I believe you did." Shoto replied. You smiled, "Oh? Did i? Well go kick some as-" "(Y/n). Please, I love you." "I know! Have a good patrol!" "Y/n. I love you so, so much. I mean it, I really do." Shoto frowned, feeling bad you realized that he was actually getting insecure now.

He tended to do that, no matter how perfect he was he always found a way to compare himself to other men, saying he's not good enough. Or even worse, he compares himself to Endeavor, that peace of (I don't cuss, so I couldn't tell you ��) which broke your heart.

Depending on how broken he was the longer it took you to calm him down, and reassure him that he was utterly perfect to you and nothing at all like his shizzy old man. (Yes I just wrote shizzy. Why? Cause shizzy is the same as shiz.) Now feeling bad you walked over to him and enveloped him in your arms.

"Oh Baby, it was a stupid prank, I'm so sorry. I love you too. So, so much." You comfort. And so after his patrol you spent the rest of the night cuddling and spouting words of love. Yes, it took a while of unconditional love for him to feel whole again. (The vid blew up FAST I mean, Denki now has a whopping new 483 followers. And they keep coming.)

Kirishima:

You and your boyfriend were currently in a prank war. It all started when Kiri, that sweet, sweet baby of your's decided to ignore you. Two years have passed since then, and both of you are third years in U.A. high. Last week your boyfriend decided to start a argument and pass out. Yeah, you weren't happy. And so, you were going to get revenge. Your prank channel has almost a million followers, about half on your side, while the other on Kiri's. Smirking you set up the camera in your boyfriend's dorm. Kiri was in the bathroom getting ready for the gym, and Bakugou was going to be over shortly to drive him. (Ummm pray for Kiri's life. Driving with Bakugo??!💀)

You looked up as you heard Kiri open the door, stepping into your view in the process. I mean, you two were still kids, so you haven't you know, *cough cough*. But~ that doesn't mean that you can't like what you see... ANYWAYS! He had a red tank top on, which show cased his muscles beautifully.

He had black shorts and a red head band which pulled back his hair from his face. Smiling widely you looked him in the eyes, causing him to blush. "So... I look good?" Kiri asked, face as red as his beautiful hair. "Good? Eiji.... you look stunning! I mean drop dead gorgeous. I would literally date you in a heartbeat- scratch that I would marry you in a heart beat! SO manly!" You ramble, causing your gorgeous boyfriend's neck and ears to start turning red as well.

Before Kiri could could respond the door was kicked open. "ENOUGH WITH THIS CRINGEY SHIZ AND GET YOUR *Dadadada* OUT HERE NOW!" Bakugo yelled, causing both you and Kiri to sigh. "Well, I love you Baby, I'll be back in a few hours." Kiri promised. Stooping down to kiss you he slightly frowned when you responded with, "Mkay, have fun." "I love you." He repeated after giving you a loving kiss on your lips.

"Mhm, have fun." Scoffing Bakugo stormed off and yelled, "I'LL BE IN THE CAR! DON'T TAKE TO LONG, THAT MEANS NO FU-" "YES! THANK YOU, WE KNOW!" Kiri yelled, face a dark red. Giggling you kissed his hand, "Bye Baby, have fun being screamed at." "Wait... aren't you forgetting something?" "Make sure to keep Bakubeast in check?"

Kirishima would normally chuckle, but instead of him blessing you with the sound of his laugh he just frowned deeper. "Baby... Pebble... Do you love me?" "Why do you ask? But Baby, you gotta go, you're gonna be late." "Please say you love me!" "Baby~ you're gonna be late~!" Kiri pouted and then kissed you on your head. "Bye, love you." He said in a defeated tone, breaking your heart.

Normally, you would go over to him and smother him with love and promise him that it's just a prank. But, you had to stay strong, the prank he pulled was so~ mean! After a few hours Kiri came back to your dorm, sweaty and tired. It looked like he almost forgot about your neglect, but knowing Kiri he wouldn't forget it until you fix it.

After Kiri greeted you with an 'I love you' and a kiss on the temple he went to go shower. (Please just pretend that third years have showers in their dorms or something!) After his shower Kiri let you dry his hair, something that you LOVED doing when it was fluffy and just washed. Time skip: about an hour or two later.

"Hey... (y/n)." Kirishima called, hesitation heavy in his voice. "Yes Baby?" You ask. "A-are you mad at me? I'm really sorry.. I don't know what I did wrong, but I'll fix it! Promise!" Giggling at his eagerness you decided to end his misery.

"Oh my poor Baby! I'm sorry! I love you, I love you, I love you~!!!" You exclaim, jumping off the bed to wrap your worried boyfriend in a hug. "Wait.... was this a prank?! (Y/n)! SO~ mean!" Kiri laughed, wrapping his arms around you he peppered your neck, face and head with kisses.

Giggling you cuddle for the rest of the night, the video blew up and your followers are now asking for more Bakugou content. Though, I would stop being smug right about now, and start preparing for Kiri's next prank.

Denki:

Denki told you that he wouldn't prank you, but come on. His followers have seen you in a few of his prank videos, and boy oh boy did they love you. They requested time and time again for him to prank you, so he did. And you did NOT like that. And because he broke his word, you'll break your's. And so here you were, intro already filmed and camera set up.

"Nugget~ Baby Nuggy~" Denki called, winking at the camera you looked up as Denki walked into the room. "Yes Bubs?" "I need to go~" Denki whined, walking over to you he wrapped his arms around you and started kissing your face repeatedly causing you to giggle. "Mkay, don't overuse your quirk. Be safe!" "I love you." Denki repeated, leaning down to look you in the eye as he kissed your nose. "Denki~ don't be late! Bakugou WILL kill you!" You exclaim, giving him a light push as he tried to kiss you further. "Baby~ I love you~" Denki whined, clinging to your neck like a child. "I know, I know! Just go to work!" You order, stifling your giggles as your boyfriend acted like a literal child.

"(Y/n)... please say you love me." Denki sniffled, a pout staining his cheerful face. Yes, you knew that you should've lasted longer, but come on! That pout! "Baby! It was just a prank! I love you~" You pout, wrapping your arms around Denki in a hug. "(Y/n)! Really?!" Denki whined, causing you to giggle. You laugh as you see Denki's playful pout, before pulling him in for more kisses. (First time writing Denki, hope I did an okay job).

Part II: Decoding the love story being told through other characters

Oh look, time to defeat the raid boss of BNHA: IzuOcha. (I wrote this meta in March, and after reading it now, I didn't feel I needed to change anything, but I added a small bonus section at the end. Hope you enjoy!)

I have a lot of things to say about why Ochaco was never meant to be the one... but I'll try to stay concise and on topic with regards to this meta. Ochaco appears set up as Izuku's love interest from the get-go, but is that really what Hori wanted to do? I'll be taking a dive into their themes and in part three of this meta, I'll be explaining why the answer to that question has been a resounding: NO!

When I compared the feedback Ochaco got from Aoyama, Toga and Mina about her having a crush on Izuku for wanting to be like him, to Izuku, who didn’t get any feedback for all the times he did the exact same thing and copied Kacchan, it felt very unfair.

See what I mean? It is completely unfair. And this was such a hard topic for me to navigate and answer for the anon at that time. But then I did some thinking.

Compress, Gentle/La Brava, Kamijirou and finally Kirimina (which came as a pleasant surprise, and for me, cemented Hori's intentions with all of this)... all of these characters have been written to highlight various things about BkDk's relationship.

Then, there is Ochaco's admiration of Izuku and she always gets told it's a crush, and it's so weird of a plot to begin with. This very one-sided "crush" also felt out of place with the rest of the themes going on. I eventually realised maybe we had been looking too closely at the admiration issue all along. By attempting to explain the meaning of the tree and why it's different from this other tree, we didn't see the forest it's connected to and that there was actually something bigger going on that Hori had been crafting.

Scale it back and you’ll see: It’s not that Izuku didn’t get his own feedback about his feelings for Kacchan in the various ways he shows he wanted to be like him, but Ochaco’s conversations with Aoyama and Mina and Toga were his feedback!! It was one of the biggest AHHHHHHHHHHH SO THAT'S WHY pin drop moments I've ever had.

No one was calling him out, because they didn't need to! Calling out Ochaco for that behaviour was all Izuku's same behaviour needed!

Chapter 15 is the first time Izuku displays this behaviour of wanting to be like Kacchan. In Chapter 48 Izuku trains his movement after thinking of "Kacchan and the others". His movement mimicking Katsuki's is first noticed by Iida in Chapter 52.

We spent so much time worrying what the difference is between Izuku and Ochaco’s admiration, but we tackled the problem all wrong! In fact, we didn’t need to tackle it at all.

Because not only did Ochaco’s crush sideplot serve as a red herring to veil the real love story going on from the average reader, it was also used as another tool to highlight it.

In chapter 58, Izuku showed off his new movement style and everybody, even Katsuki, noticed it was copying the way Katsuki moves. The fact we get another Ochaco shot of her watching Izuku mimic Katsuki really does add credence to the theory that she noticed Izuku's feelings because he's also copying the person he loves. And if their logic was true for her, then why couldn't it be true for Izuku too? Izuku's mimicry being such a non-issue for 1-A was surely done on purpose for us to see this hypocrisy one day: That her mimicry gets called out as love by everyone, but everyone sleeps on Izuku's own mimicry simply because it's between two boys.

Our take away was never meant to be “what’s the difference between their admiration/love”, but simply that Izuku was both wanting to become like and inadvertently becomes like Kacchan because he loves him so much and a way to keep Kacchan close to him was incorporating both his attitude and movement style into his own.

Hori was linking the two concepts of mimicry and romance together with commentary from Mina/Aoyama/Toga while having Izuku do this EXACT THING they were talking about, with Katsuki, right in front of our damn salad!

Because what other characters noted about Ochaco's behaviour... Izuku was also expressing towards Kacchan. (Hori even brought it up again in DvK2 just to remind *everyone* that Izuku is very conscious of doing the exact same thing as Ochaco)

Even if Ochaco later reveals their logic to not be true FOR HER (which I wholeheartedly believe in. BkDk+TogaChaco end game LETS GO), we know for sure this logic has absolutely been true for Izuku. And the feedback Ochaco got also fits Hori’s framework of;

Bkdk -> are the actions

Other characters -> are the words for their feelings and actions.

Ochaco never was a raid boss to begin with... she only had the appearance of one. All to get BkDK through to the finish line.

Ochaco talking about "putting the All Might doll away" here used the same verb as "shutting her feelings away" and her scene instantly jumps to Izuku looking at his black whip - a quirk he has also "put away" behind a locked door that represents OFA. Black whip is a quirk which emerged from the feelings he has for Katsuki, that Izuku has also had to "put away" because what happened to him was so traumatic. I think Hori wanted us to see their two stories of "locking something away" were actually the same in essence, and it wasn't just black whip itself that Izuku had to lock away, but also his feelings for Katsuki... because we lost Izuku's POV towards Katsuki after the "I'm too blessed." scene. Most likely to hide the romantic love Izuku feels towards him from the reader.

I realised the same logic of the other couples also applied to Ochaco too a few months ago, while I was putting together this meta about all the ways Hori has indirectly shown readers what Izuku’s feelings for Kacchan are. Hori couldn’t say it outright because of his demographic and the current expectations society has that BL should stay in it's own category and far removed from shounen.

So Hori gave bkdk their moments without a whole lot of context and developed the idea of them simultaneously in another language, by getting other various characters to do the talking. And he used these characters to indirectly spell out bkdk’s love story in conjunction with bkdk’s own behaviour, all for the sake of his big bkdk reveal in the series' finale.

And to think he’s been doing this almost since the beginning blows my mind. (Chapter 15! Chapter 15 was the start of WWKD: What Would Kacchan Do) The man is a genius. A lot of this feels like he had needed to release his feelings about bkdk, so he left these trails of code throughout the manga... and we’ve finally cracked the damn thing.

We did it. We realised Hori’s 2nd language and roundabout method of telling one of the greatest love stories in shounen history. And I’m sure there’s even more examples of it to discover, that all our fandom's talented, keen-eyed bkdks find every day.

If Horikoshi Kohei-Sensei wrote this story because he wanted to cement his mark in jump history, he has deservedly done just that!

Part B - The real ship of dreams

(It felt too good to be true, yet I was quietly hoping...) .•° ✿ 5. TogaChako ೋღ

Circling back to the first part of this meta, "The Shape of an Eternal Bond" ... Do you remember when I talked about how BkDk couldn't imagine a world without each other, and the sense of an eternity they both exude together? Something that has always been, something that will always be. It seems more themes and feelings we get from bkdk's relationship have now been thrown into the Togachaco fight.

Ochaco gave Toga what is essentially a marriage proposal to a vampire, and then her wires made the shape of the infinity symbol. Toga expresses to her "I can't stand the thought of you not being in this world anymore." This is 1. so touching 2. bkdk as HELL, and I am certain that Katsuki and Izuku will confess their desires to be together forever before this manga ends.

I mean, this just goes to show you how us bkdks and Hori are literally on the same neural link, and we've been right about his methods of storytelling and how he's leaving trails of love inside these other couples to express concepts that are present in bkdk's own (soon to be) very romantic relationship.

It's a fun thought exercise to look at Togachaco's fight and predict what certain themes of theirs Hori will install into bkdk's talk/feelings they will express to each other... but there is a certain one, other than "forever", I feel very strongly about and will focus on here...

And that is Izuku's smile.

Something Katsuki once detested became the thing he most advocated for and longed to protect. His thumbs pointing to himself while talking about smiles... no wonder this had an air of Katsuki, himself, being the biggest reason Izuku smiles. "How could you leave me and choose this for us - a life of no smiling like that?"

At the start of the series, Katsuki couldn't stand Izuku's face or the smile he made at him. Whenever he saw it, he could only think of it as somebody laughing at him, looking down on him... but then DvK2 reframed Izuku's wide smiles at him and turned them into something pure, and genuine, and I think that's when Katsuki started to realise how much he was being loved the whole time.

And how could Katsuki possibly not reciprocate those earnest feelings from his special person who helped him find his heroic heart?

And this seems to be something Ochaco has noticed about Izuku? Ochaco, somebody who loves when people smile, noticed how big Izuku smiles when he talks about heroes... but especially the besotted faces he makes whenever he's with Katsuki... Of course she did.

On the Weekly Shounen Jump cover that featured bnha chapter 394, most of the characters on it are happy and smiling. Izuku isn't, however. That's because he's lost the ability to smile because Katsuki is still dead in the manga... Hori used this jump issue to build on this theme in the manga - that if you take Katsuki away, then away goes Izuku's smile, too.

Because Katsuki's very existence gives Izuku his happiness.

These two panels were supposed to be compared to each other - "Blood" and "Smiles" are two concepts mirroring each other in Togachaco's story. It's their different love languages. Toga felt like she couldn't ask Saito-kun for blood because he'd never accept her, Ochaco felt like she couldn't ask Izuku for his smile... because he'd also never accept her... she knew this was because Izuku already had somebody who gave him his sweetest smile... the same person who knew him more than anyone.

Chapter 395's title, 'shiawase no ue ni' was an interesting one that feels nuanced with Ochaco's feelings towards Izuku. It can be read as "Above (my) happiness..." I think this title is describing the concept of prioritising something else BEFORE one's own happiness. It's the perfect concept title for self-sacrifice, like Toga putting Ochaco's life above her own, but could ALSO be referencing Ochaco placing Izuku's happiness with Katsuki before her own feelings for him!!

Ochaco's story, at present, appears to be about putting aside unrequited love for a person she didn't quite understand, and instead placing her efforts into an attainable goal - rescuing somebody's heart from despair, and in doing so, becoming each other's important person. And then neither have to journey through life alone anymore. Ochaco knew this is something Izuku and Katsuki found in each other. In the image above, the girls are looking at Izuku and Saito, who won't turn their way, because they are both looking at a blonde boy next to them. Their "Sometimes Saturday." Katsuki.

The hidden face as Ochaco says she "came to like" Izuku Midoriya is quite suspicious. It belies what she's saying and she seems to either be hiding something negative or she’s not being truly forthcoming about her situation and feelings for Izuku. There are also themes of envy that finally showed up in Togachaco's dialogue which may be foundation Hori has laid down for the reveal of Ochaco's feelings later, as well. Envy about the attention Izuku received from others as a hero. Envy towards Izuku's innate passion for heroes, and the adoring faces he makes for Katsuki, perhaps.

So this smile that Katsuki has always misunderstood as something negative aimed towards him ended up turning into something... very lovely and important to him, as shown in Izuku's panel and how Ochaco described Toga's smile right afterwards.

And honestly... if we get little snapshots of the many smiles Izuku has made for Katsuki, while Katsuki is thinking about how adorable Izuku looks just for him when they're talking, I don't think I'll make it out of this bkdk reveal alive. Hori is going to obliterate us with whatever he's got cooking for them.

MHA Discussion Time!

What is the discussion about?: I’m just gonna talk about IzuOcha and the difference between other ships.

Warnings: Some Mha manga spoilers but not many..

Izuku’s romantic feelings towards Ochaco have never been mentioned. Horikoshi has always been very obvious about other ships from the beginning like KiriMina and KamiJirou, while IzuOcha has always been an one sided love story. Horikoshi's handling of romantic subplots has varied in terms of explicitness and development. Let’s break this down.

1) Explicit Romantic Development: Other ships like KiriMina (Kirishima x Mina) and KamiJirou (Kaminari x Jirou) have more obvious and mutual interactions, making their potential relationships clearer to the audience. These relationships have moments that suggest a mutual interest and development.

2) IzuOcha Dynamics: The interactions between Izuku and Ochaco have largely focused on friendship and mutual respect. While Ochaco's feelings for Izuku have been hinted at and developed, Izuku's side of the relationship has not been as explicitly romantic. His primary focus has been on his growth as a hero and his training, with little to no direct acknowledgment of romantic feelings towards Ochaco.

3) Narrative Focus: Horikoshi may have intentionally left Izuku's romantic feelings ambiguous to keep the focus on his journey as a hero and his complex relationships with other characters, particularly Bakugo and All Might. This allows the story to maintain its primary focus on action, growth, and the heroism themes.

4) One-Sided Love Story: The one-sided nature of IzuOcha adds a layer of realism and subtlety to the story, reflecting how not all relationships develop into romance, especially in a high-stakes, intense environment like the one the characters are in.

The absence of explicit romantic feelings from Izuku towards Ochaco, contrasted with the clear and impactful dynamics between Izuku and Bakugo, does add weight to the argument that BakuDeku has a deeper narrative significance. This nuanced approach by Horikoshi allows for various interpretations and keeps the story rich and engaging for different segments of the fandom.

This thought had been in my head before, and I didn't think about making a post about it till I saw a really dumb post I disagreed with.

Once again talking about Izuku having a crush on Ochako, while acting as if Izuku is an average shounen protag like all the others. Except for one thing...

While it can be stated that Izuku did at one point have a crush on Uraraka, and I'm not gonna dispute that, many have already pointed out how Izuku very quickly gets over it the more time he spends at U.A. And all of this is true, but there's one thing I haven't seen anyone point out yet and that's that all of Izuku's moments where we see him crushing on Ochako I treated like a gag.

There's a lot of moments from the earlier parts of the series so I didn't grab them all. But I'm gonna use some to make my case here.

this is literally the first panel where we see this happen, and right off it comes across less like a crush and more like...actually I don't know how to even describe that face...

But the point is that it doesn't really seem like the face of someone who's flustered (especially because we see Izuku get flustered at multiple other points and it looks nothing like this-), and he's barely blushing at all in this. The way that this scene is made, makes it seem like you're meant to treat this in jest. "Oh a teen boy having a crush on a girl, just a boy being a boy!" Yes. A boy being a boy. A teen boy who was previously bullied and ostracized by all his peers and who's only interaction with the opposite sex would have been his mom. I can't imagine why he's having this reaction. Anyways.

Okay now Izuku is flustered...but it's because of personal space? Not the girl in front of you? Huh. Okay. This happens again btw, during the first OVA (I think), where Uraraka in her excitement at being paired up with Izuku ends up in his personal space without consideration for his boundaries.

This continues on sparsely throughout random points in the story, until they just...stop. Completely. And this interesting, because every other time regarding IzuOcha specifically focuses on Uraraka and her feelings about Izuku. And it's never treated as a joke. Whereas with Izuku, you're meant to find it funny, but never highly important, or warranting you're full attention. It's just something that I find interesting, especially when you take into consideration how this parallels KiriMina and KamiJirou, and how for both boys and their feelings toward their respective love interests their feelings are treated again, with weight.

And like I said, Uraraka's emotions are treated seriously. We're given multiple moments to see her contemplate on this stuff. But never Izuku. Why? Because he's not important, it was always gonna be one-sided thing between them, imo I don't think, even if bkdk was never meant to be a thing, that Hori ever intended for this to be a deep, meaningful relationship between these two. That it was always never gonna happen. That's my two cents tho.

Ship moments: comparison

Here is a comparison of all the main ships moments and how many are in manga, anime vs novels etc. Again, the moments are what any fan of the ship would consider a meaningful interaction, so of course we have something like "character A saving B and going full rage" here being compared to "character A sharing tea with character B", as I did not weight the different moments. Being that each ship is different, a tea sharing moment might be what is most loved about ship C, vs the angst of rage for ship D.

To do so, I made lists of all the moments so you can check which ones I considered.

The moments added are from these, and categorized as:

As you can see, colors are the different manga+adaptation+extra.

Interestingly, Kirimina was the only ship that had no extra (anime or novels or other) moments, all the moments they had was in the manga. Following was Togachako, which had only manga, with a few added moments this last sixth season.

This is just for the manga (violet FF ships, pink FM ships, blue MM ships):

In the manga, Izuocha, Iidachako and Kamijirou are the top 3 F/M ships. The top 3 M/M ships by interaction are Bakudeku, Tododeku and Kiribaku which are also the top 3 ships on AO3 for the whole fandom.

Tsuchako was the top F/F ship, followed by Togachako.

Now, I wanted to see how much of these ships moments was due to the manga vs extra added material (from spin off to Bones added etc.).

And now, if we look at the percentages of non manga material:

On top we have Kacchako, with 67% of its ship moments (more than half) coming from non manga material (so extras and anime only scenes). Following we have Iidamomo, then Bakudeku, Kiribaku and Todobaku all above 60%.

As said before, the ship with no extra manga material was Kirimina, with 0%, following Togachako that only has 6%.

i believe killing kamijirou in the epilogue was a very intentional metaphor played as a “hah you thought!” moment and it keeps me up at night. bc it realistically appears to be poking fun at people who take bkdk too seriously and you might as well leave it at that. but it 100% could be read as a jab at izchk and it would still make sense, which is hilarious

before i start, i just want to say that this is my opinion based on A VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF LEAKS I SAW. i don’t know the rest of the context and i’m really trying not to say leaks, i’m really upset i saw these ones cause i wanted to experience myself but now i just kinda need to get this out😭

my opinion most likely will change as well once i actually read the epilogue, i don’t know much more then what i say here about it so please don’t come at me. i don’t want anymore spoilers.

okay i’m a bit sad, cause i heard saw that katsuki offered izuku a job at his agency, but he turned it to down and ran off to ochako

i have no clue of any more context really cause i’m trying to avoid spoilers but honestly, putting my personal shipping opinions aside, it doesn’t seem very izuku like.

i don’t know but just all of the progress and development they’ve gone through with their friendship, it just felt off to me

also i saw that katsuki is in the number 15 spot on the hero rankings and honestly that made me a bit bummed as well. part of katsuki’s whole character is he passion to be the number one hero. i know that it takes years to climb to the top but katsuki’s so determined and all aspects of personality leave it for it to not make much. i mean monoma’s ramked higher then him. i have hope that he will be number one soon in the future but i’m kinda sad we didn’t get to see it ourselves

also i really hope that he and izuku do some kind of hero work together because after that moment with them in chp 430. that was such and important moment in there friendship and i’m so happy that they still seem like our close, good friends, are on good speaking terms and seem to have a mutual trust and understanding. it makes my heart so happyyyyy.

uhhh so i’m pretty sure that’s it. don’t get me wrong, i love my ships. bakudeku, dabihawks, kamijirou, and quite a few others make me very happy but honestly, i kinda hope no ships are officially made canon. lots of the toxicity in this fandom comes from the shipping communities so i would kinda like to avoid that😭

im entitled to my own opinions and so is everyone other fan. even if my or no ships at all are made canon, i’ll live, it’s not the biggest deal ever. i also wanna remind y’all that most of the more popular ships in anime/mangas are rarely canon, but they’re still good and fun and lots of people ship them. plus mha is a shonen as well and i feel like people forget that sometimes somehow.

ANYWAYYSSS, sorry for this whole thing and i’m sorry if you don’t like my thoughts, again they probably will change but i don’t wanna see anymore spoilers so i’m waiting until it all comes out.

So here's a spoiler for the Kamijirou fic I've been working on 😈😈😈

Jirou likes rock and Denki likes electronic.

They argue about it a lot. The usual which is better, yours make no sense, it's much more superior that whatever you call that music. Sometimes during study nights the books and work are forgotten, pushed aside, to make way for their heated debate. Their friends roll their eyes and ignore them; it's almost a ritualistic thing at this point.

Only Mina thinks there's something more to it - to the rest the noise just dies down when one of them whips out their phone and forces the other to listen to their music.

So what if they were sitting really close to each other and occasionally lean their heads on the other's shoulder? They're sharing an earbud after all, and the wire required them to be close.

(They're sulking, the rest think, because they see the eyerolls and shoulder shoves.)

(They're in denial, Mina thinks, because she sees them smile at the same moment when it hits the chorus and hum together.)
