The Concept of Avatar in Hinduism
In Hinduism, an Avatar is the divine descent of God to earth to restore dharma (righteousness) whenever evil rises. The Bhagavad Gita states:
"Whenever there is decay of righteousness... I myself come forth... For the protection of the good and the destruction of evil-doers." (Gita 4:7-8)
Hindu scriptures primarily attribute Avatars to Lord Vishnu, with the Dashavatara (10 Avatars) being the most well-known, including Rama, Krishna, and the future Kalki Avatar. However, the Srimad Bhagavatam expands this list, stating that Avatars are countless, appearing whenever needed.
Avatars & Divine Manifestation:
Hinduism acknowledges different expressions of divinity:
- Purna Avatar (full divine manifestation) – Krishna, Rama
- Amsa Avatar (partial manifestation) – Balarama, Kapila
- Shaktiavesha Avatar (divine power for destruction of evil) – Parashurama
Avatara Purushas (Divine Beings)
Throughout history, saints and spiritual leaders have been revered as Avatars, including Shankaracharya, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Shirdi Sai Baba, Satya Sai Baba, and Mata Amritanandamayi. Their wisdom transcends sects, guiding humanity toward enlightenment.
Hinduism’s vast and evolving wisdom teaches that the true essence of Avatars lies in their teachings, which uplift humanity and align with Sanatana Dharma’s eternal truths.

“Om Namo Narayanaya” Cosmic Vishnu Talon Abraxas Lord Vishnu God Vishnu is a manifestation of the eternal and endless Parabrahmn. He is the prime mover that powers the objective world. He is the guardian that sustains this universe. God Vishnu is the substrate of all things. He is the origin of the tiniest atoms and the mightiest galaxies.
His abode lies in Kshirsagar, a timeless place far beyond the mortal world, where He likes to rest on his magnificent lotus throne. He walks with Devi Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and good fortune.
Significance and Role: Vishnu is one of the Trimurtis; and the one most involved in the day-to-day affairs of this world. Because of His unbounded power, He never descends to the mortal world as himself. His will, however, still shapes the events, both on the granular and the cosmic scales. He takes countless avatars throughout history for this purpose. When the need arises, He appears as a mortal, to tip the scales of balance between the good and the evil.
God Vishnu is generally represented either seated or standing, on a bed of lotus, floating in the cosmic ocean of milk, the Kshirsagar. The thousand hoods of the Sheshanaga, the king of all serpents and the primal snake, form a protective parasol over the head of God Vishnu.
It’s a long-held tradition to represent Vishnu with light blue skin and four arms.
Avatars of Vishnu: Matsya, the fish, was the first avatar of Vishnu. In this form, he guided Manu during the great deluge. Kurma, the turtle, was the second and Varaha, the boar, was the third. The fourth avatar of Vishnu is Narasimha, the half-man half-lion being, that broke out of existence from within the pillars of the dungeons where Hiranyakashipu was torturing his son, Vishnu-bhakta Prahlada.
The fifth avatar was Vaman, the dwarf Brahman, who went to ask for alms from the great Asura king Bali (also referred to as Mahabali, or Maveli). Next are Parashurama, Rama, and Krishna. The ninth avatar of Vishnu depends on the tradition you choose to follow. Some people believe it to be Balarama, the son of Krishna’s foster parents, others say it’s Gautama the Buddha.
Kalki is the future avatar, slated to appear at the fag end of Kaliyuga, for the final battle between the good and the evil.
Benefits of Worshipping Him: God Vishnu is worshipped in thousands of names. Vishnu Sahasranama is a list of over a thousand names of God Vishnu. Each of these revered names describe a distinct aspect of the ultimate reality.
Boons from God Vishnu, while benefiting the devotee, also has a way of doing good for the world at large. Vishnu not only grants you what you ask for but what you really need. Being a Parabrahmn, God Vishnu can grant his devotees, true bliss and knowledge, when sought appropriately. If deemed worthy, a touch of Vishnu can provide a candidate, instant enlightenment, or the moksha. Mukti from Samsara Varta and vicious cycle of births and deaths.
God Vishnu is an object of reverence for gods and mortals alike. His avatars were heroic personalities, born to correct the wrongs of the world, and to provide courage and inspiration to the denizens of Mrityu-Loka, or the mortal Earth.
His Powers: God Vishnu is omnipotent. He can travel instantly to anywhere in any direction. He can see anything he turns his eyes towards. Nothing is hidden from him. He makes the world run. Vatam, or the movement of air, is the most expressive form of his influence. Through the breaths of life that mortals take, the Vatam enters their bodies, subtly changing their hearts and minds. He is the original magician and trickster. No one can grasp his true intentions unless he intends them to.
His Vehicle: Vishnu rides the mighty eagle, the Garuda. The Garuda is special because its original form is not part of this Brahmand. Similar to his master, Garuda also has taken many avatars in the lower worlds. One of them was Vainateya (son of Vinata) whose life was riddled with countless tales of valor, grit, and wisdom. Garuda embodies the wisdom of the Vedas themselves. It’s also a lesser-known fact that Eagles always play crucial cameos in all of God Vishnu’s incarnations in the lower worlds.
In his benevolent depiction, God Vishnu is represented sleeping on the coils of Sheshanaga, the primal thousand-headed serpent, who like the Garuda exists apart from this Brahmand or the universe. Shesha is considered both a servant and a manifestation of Vishnu and has descended to the Prithvi-Loka as Lakshamana in the Ramayana era, Balarama during the Mahabharata era, and Ramanujacharya, the proponent of Vishishtadvaita School of Vedanta, during the Kaliyuga.
Weapons and Artifacts: Vishnu wields many weapons. Chief among them is the Sudarshana Chakra, the deadly discus of death, swirling around his forefinger. Sudarshana Chakra, being an invincible weapon, is used rarely. There are zero, five, eight, and sixteen weapon depictions of Vishnu in some of his popular representations like Narsimha, Mahavishnu, Ashtabhuja, and Shodasayudha.
Vishnu is the bearer of the conch of divine knowledge, the Panchajanya. Vishnu and his avatars are known to blow the conch shell to herald both good times and wars.
Vishnu, in his four-armed representation, is shown holding a mace and a lotus, apart from the chakra and the conch. The mace is named Kaumodaki and is a mark of authority. Padma, the lotus symbolizes purity and transcendence.
In some of his less common representations, Vishnu is sometimes also represented as wielding the celestial bow Sharanga or the Nandaka sword. The Nandaka sword is believed to be a sentient weapon with the ability to descend to the lower Lokas as avatars in service of its master, Vishnu.
In the Vaishnavite traditions, it is held that it was God Vishnu who created Brahma and taught him about Vedas. It is the knowledge of Vedas that allowed God Brahma to create the universe and its myriad aspects. While Brahma may be the architect, it’s Vishnu who was the ultimate supplier of the building blocks.

Thoughts on Kalki 2898 AD
For any new watchers, it might help to get some context. Kalki 2898 AD is about the emergence of Kalki, the last and 10th Avatar or Avataram of Lord Vishnu. There are 4 yugams according to Hinduism. Satyayugam, Tretayugam, Dwaparayugam and Kali Yugam. When evil shadows the world, Vishnu is born into Earth as a human to rid all evil. Krishna is one such very popular avataram of Vishnu. Kalki, the last Avatar has not yet appeared in Kaliyugam( the most evil of all times) and this movie is an imagination of that probable time.
Spoiler Alert!
Cons-
The dialogue, I understand that they now live in a place of amalgamated cultures but why does some of it sound so bad?? I watched the Malayalam dubbed version in theatre and it is actually not that bad but still this use of english slang that sounds so awkward and which can be easily replaced with regional slang is so annoying. For example why does the rebel fighter keep calling bhairava "bro" 😭. Especially when it can be replaced with "chetta" or " anna".
The names, Characters that should have traditional names like Shobana's character has Mariam, I mean Huh?? Who thought this was a good idea? Prabhas's character has a name that does not suit him even slightly( sorry guys but Bhairava is reserved for Ram charan's Magadheera, and he actually lives up to the name) It does not fit him thematically either bcz Bhairava is a form of Lord Shiva and that is not connected to Prabhas's character in any way whatsoever . As they revealed him as Karna at the end, they could have given him a name connected to being a son of the Sun god or smth like that. And the women's names. Sigh. Guys didn’t we all agree about using names like Kyra in Indian cinema. Then why does this KEEP HAPPENING. I mean Kyra, Mariam, Raya, Roxy(her character is another issue entirely)???What. Why. We have a bajillion good indian names both traditional and modern and u choose this, really. And if they're so adamant on using western names, use good western names like Rose or smth. Also who wants to bet that they thought they were the only ones who watched Raya and the Last Dragon and thought it'll be a good name for a indian girl.
THE TREATMENT OF FEMALE CHAARCTERS, I have been yapping about this for years to my sis so I might as well yap here too. Does the movie have good female characters? Yes. Does it treat them well? Hell no. Kyra, dead. Mariam, dead. Leela, left to die, probably dead or used as a sex slave. Roxy, there to add some spice and romance into Bhairava's boring life and consecutively forgotten and never seen again. Good thing Raya is a literal child or the writers will probably kill her off too. And it's the way their deaths have no meaning too. The man who Kyra sacrificed herself to kill is alive actually! Mariam after barely escaping death in the aircraft just gets stabbed by the villian. Sumati's case is gonna be a bit more controversial bcz while i like that she is free from the lab and might get a life of her own, it still doesn't stick quite right with me on her being told by Aswathama that her dharmam is to give birth to kalki ( more accurate and appropriate wording would've been duty or 'kartavyam') I forgot about Mrunal Thakur's character's death at the beginning bcz it had no impact at all. I don’t understand how the man who directed Mahanati could do this to the women of his movie.
Casting choices, You can sue me to hell and back but Prabhas was..not a good choice for Bhairava or as he is revealed to be, Karna. Let's be honest, every single movie after Bahubali was a huge huge miss for him and i'm almost convinced now that the reason Bahubali was such a hit was bcz of Rajamouli and the immense talent he was surrounded by like Anushka Shetty, Sathyaraj and Ramya Krishnan. For all the marketing they did for him as presenting him as the central character, he is not the main character(as he should be bcz I doubt he'll do a good job of it). His acting stands out like a sore thumb amongst Amitabh, Shobhana and Deepika. And i'm kind of disappointed that he's Karna bcz Karnan is such a complex and good character. Unpopular opinion but DQ should've been Karnan. He just fits. And Vijay Devarokonda does not fit Arjun either. His lines feel flat and emotionless. Maybe instead of casting popular Telugu names they should've casted people who actually fit and can act.
Bcz I sing, I feel slightly qualified to comment on the music in the movie. Prabhas's romance song needs to get burnt to ashes immediately bcz what. what even was that. Ew. But the theme of Kalki immediately bought back my hope for music in the movie bcz that was excellent. But I still feel like it could have been better by adding female singers in a lower pitch. The contrast would've been phenomenal. Bahubali's music director Keeravani already used these techniques in the Mahismati song guys, it's a guaranteed hit. Or maybe it's just my disappointment that there weren’t more female voices.
Krishna's voice should've been sweeter. He is pookie ok? and he deserves a sweet voice. I'm pretty sure he's described to have a voice that melts your heart. His current voice would've suited Balaram more.
Pros:-
The VFX was actually not that bad. Compared to the usual, it was miles better.
Amitabh as Aswatthama, Kamal Hassan and Shobhana delivered. They were absolutely excellent.
The little details were great. Humans get smaller through the progression of the yugams so Aswatthama being 8 feet bcz he was from the Dwapara Yugam fit perfectly. The mythical city Shambala. The little sculpture of Kalki, Bhairava holding and protecting the statue of vishnu from falling( foreshadowing?), Ashwattama meditates near Kashi's shivalingam, Gandhivam, the 5 objects around Supreme(Kamal Hassan) being the 5 evils.
Bujji, sarcastic and fun AI is always always a plus. Healthiest relationship that Bhairava has with anyone in the movie. And voiced by Keerthy Suresh? Double plus.
So many malayalam actors, it makes my malayali heart sing. Anna ben from Kubalangi nights, Shobhana and DQ 😭😭, and Malavika Nair as Uttara too. We were fed so well, just wish they did’nt kill all of them.
The inclusion of cringe english lines might've been dissapointing but the inclusion of races all over the world absolutely made up for it. Shambala's citizens being of all races, black, white, east asian, middle east and all of them being equally happy at Kalki's return made me cry. Hinduism and God is for every single person on earth regardless of their ethnicity. " Vasudaiva Kudumbakam" meaning the entire world is one family was embodied so WELL in that scene, I am floored.
No matter how many times Deepika walks into fire, she does it perfectly every time. Also that parallel between the birth of Krishna and Kalki!! Vasudeva walks through water while Sumati walks through fire. Literal chills
One can't mention chills without mentioning Krishna. It was the absolute BEST part of the movie no doubt. And not revealing his face was the best decision they made in the movie, the audience unknowingly understands that he is pure divinity. And he's Dark skinned too!! Granted he's said to be as dark as the rain clouds but meh, i'll take what I can get. I doubt that an actor with a skin colour like that is accessible. But not revealing his face and letting only the horse and his silhouette show was such a good choice, I can’t get over it.
The monks with guns 🙂
The Shambala weapons in the shape of Murugan's spear??😭 Excuse me while I cry.
The Mahabharata scenes
Supreme(Kamal Hassan) taking one drop of Kalki's essence and reviving from a Skeleton to a normal human body and that LAST POSE OMG
So even though the movie had it's flaws the good parts alone were all worth it and the theatre experience is phenomenal. The simple fact that all of this is going down and lil Kalki has'nt even been born yet is hilarious to me. It could definitely have been better but the parts that mattered, they did well.
And the iconic scene, Sree Krishna himself (forgive the trashy quality)

#kalki2898ad#Kalki Avataram#yes i am malayali i will say avataram deal with it#ok but srsly prabhas needs to up his game it feels like he's still riding off the bahubali high#This one scene of Krishna made me go to a theatre and oh it was worth it#indian cinema#my post

Nagas, the mythical creatures

The Nagas
The Nagas, mythical creatures from Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, are half-human and half-cobra beings that can be both a threat and a boon to humans. Their name means 'serpent' in Sanskrit, and they reside in Pata-loka or Naga-loka, an underground kingdom adorned with exquisite jewels and stunning palaces. According to legend, Brahma, their creator, sent them underground when they overpopulated the Earth. They only emerge to bite those who are genuinely evil or fated to die prematurely.
The Nagas were a group of people living during the period of the Mahabharata, an epic from India, and were spread across the country. They had a fierce rivalry with the demigod tribes known as Suparnas. The Naga clans in Kerala and Kashmir were believed to be the original and indigenous abode of all Nagas, and cities like Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala and Anantnag in Kashmir stand as testaments to this. In Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism, Nagas can take any shape, but they mostly appear as human beings. They are demigods associated with water and treasure. Lord Shiva, the most powerful god in the Hindu pantheon, wears a garland, anklets, and armlets made of snakes.

Snakes also serve to decorate and protect the gods Bhairav and Mahakala. Ananta, the thousand-headed Naga, protects Kali, the Hindu goddess of destruction. In Hindu myths, Nagas defend the gods and even serve as their resting place. Nagas also safeguard doors, windows, and temple walls, making their carvings and sculptures a common sight in Hindu temples. Female Nagas, referred to as Nagis or Naginis, belong to serpent royalty and are renowned for their breathtaking beauty. They hail from dynasties, including Manipur in northeastern India, Pallavas in southern India, and Indochina's ancient ruling Funan family. The Hindu canon contains several references to beings from other planets.

For example, the Bhagavata Purana, one of the 18 significant Puranas from a Vaishnava perspective, mentions other beings. The creation of the universe is described in detail in Canto 3, the universe in Canto 5, and battles between demigods and demons on other planets are detailed in Canto 8. The Mahabharata also extensively mentions beings on different planets. The Panchang, an ancient Indian calendar, has evolved in Indian astronomy over the past 5000 years. It predicts the exact time of lunar and solar eclipses and the dates and times of all our festivals from time immemorial. It continues to be widely followed in India. The star positions for all significant events in the Mahabharata and Ramayana, two major Indian epics, are also given.
Modern astronomers have dated these positions and found them to be internally consistent. Surprisingly, our ancient story of Dasavatharam, which mentions the ten avatars of Vishnu, also describes the evolution of life from fish to amphibians, animals, half-animal/half-human creatures, short, intelligent humanoids, forest-dwelling axe-men, ideal homo sapiens, wise politicians, and finally, Buddha. Darwin's theory mirrors this up until the homosapien. The tenth avatar, Kalki, is believed to be the technically adept human of tomorrow. Finally, a 16th-century hymn called the Hanuman Chalisa describes the distance to the Sun. It states that one yuga, an epoch, equals 4.32 million years. The Hanuman Chalisa claims that the Sun is at a distance of 100 crore yojanas from the Earth, with one yojana equating to about eight miles, which translates to 800 million miles.
Ancient references mention that the Earth and other planets orbit the Sun and that the size of our solar system is close to the same as it is now. Various texts also discuss the nature of time, reality, and consciousness. Modern science is validating these ideas one by one.

Here is a piece of the larger framework of Asian mythology located in India

Its pantheon, including him, will center around the TRINITY OF GODS that will include BRAHMA, VISHNU, AND SHIVA. There are other deities that exclude THE TRINITY that will represent GOD in another form known as an AVATAR. Can you explain the Kalki Avatar? Are Kalki's life events like that of Krishna and Rama?
No, Kalki's story is not like Ram or Krishna. Kalki will neither be like Ram, nor will he be like Krishna
Kalki will be like Veer Bhadra
You know Veer Bhadra? The ferocious avatar of Lord Shiva who destroyed everyone and everything that came in his way. Yes, Lord Vishnu’s last avatar Kalki will be exactly like that. Kalki will be that ferocious terrifying unstoppable force of nature who will slay everyone who comes in his way
Kalki will slay everyone, literally everyone. He will cut down everyone with his sword called Nandaka, whoever comes in his way. The only way to survive Kalki is to be pure, 100% pure, devoid of Kali Purush’s influence, devoid of any bad things, devoid of greed and lust, devoid of any bad or impure mentality, have 100% Sattvic personality and completely surrender to Kalki when he comes in front of you. If Kalki comes in front of someone and the person is 100% pure in nature and completely surrenders to Kalki and acknowledges Kalki as the real God without trying to fight back and without being under Kali Purush's influence, then Kalki will probably not slice down that person with his sword and let go of that person. Otherwise, Kalki will slay and brutally kill every non-Sattvic impure people who comes in his way. Kalki will not come to establish “Maryada Purushottam Charitra” like Rama and Kalki will also not come to do “Raas Leela” with Gopis like Krishna, Kalki will come to wash the entire world with EVERYONE’S BLOOD. When Kalki Avatar will arrive, ABSOLUTE BLOODBATH will start from there. He will not let go of anyone, ANYONE. Every people under Kali Purush's influence will be chopped down by the God's Divine Judgement Sword Nandaka. Kalki will come to clean this dirty world filled with dirty people. Kalki will be the most ferocious and violent avatar of Lord Vishnu, even more violent than Varaha, Narsimha and Parshuram. There will be no limit to Kalki’s anger, it will only be carnage, bloodbath and absolute destruction once he arrives

Vishnu Dreams the Universe Talon Abraxas
Lord Vishnu, the Hindu God of Preservation
Vishnu is regarded as a major god in Hinduism and Indian mythology. He is thought as the preserver of the universe, while two other major Hindu gods, Brahma and Shiva, are considered the creator and destroyer of the universe, respectively. Vishnu is described as being the color of clouds (dark- blue), four-armed, holding a lotus, mace, conch and chakra. In the Bhagavad Gita, Vishnu is also described as having a ‘Cosmic Form’ which is beyond the ordinary limits of human sense perception. As the preserver of the cosmos, Vishnu upholds the universal laws. Unlike Shiva, who often seeks refuge in the forest to meditate, Vishnu constantly participates in worldly affairs, ensuring that all is well.
When order prevails in the universe, Vishnu sleeps on the coils of Sesha (serpent), ruler of the Nagas. As Sesha floats along the cosmic ocean supporting Vishnu, the universe unfolds from Vishnu’s dream. But when there is disorder in the universe, Vishnu either mounts his vehicle, Garuda (eagle), and battles with the forces of chaos, or he sends one of his Avatars (incarnations) to save the world. It is believed that Vishnu would have ten such Avatars, the most popular being Rama and Krishna. The full list of ten Avatars is: the fish Matsya, the turtle Kurma, the boar Varaha, the man-lion Narasimha, the dwarf Vamana, the warrior-priest Parashurama, the prince Rama, the cowherd Krishna, the sage Buddha-Mayamoha, and the one yet to come, the horseman Kalki.
Vishnu is said to use both force and guile to ensure the stability of the universe. His consort Laxmi, Goddess of Wealth and Power, offers him the wherewithal to maintain the integrity of the world. Today, Lord Vishnu is one of the most highly revered deities. His name means “Pervader” and he is the symbol of sustaining goodness. In the epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, he is glorified through the Avatars Rama and Krishna. Vishnu is invoked as the All-Pervading essence of all beings, who supports, sustains and governs the Universe. Lord Vishu symbolizes the strength to persevere and sustain the good in your life. May you have that Vishnu-inspired strength to sustain lasting goodness.

HOW MANY VISHNU AVATARS ARE THERE?

Reading time- 5 mins
In Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu, the preserver, and sustainer of the universe, is believed to have taken various avatars (incarnations) throughout history. These avatars serve a divine purpose, restoring balance and righteousness in the world. Let's explore the fascinating stories behind the ten most significant avatars of Lord Vishnu.
1. Matsya Avatar (The Fish Incarnation):
As Matsya, Lord Vishnu appeared as a giant fish to save humanity from a catastrophic flood. He guided the sage Manu's boat to safety and preserved life during the deluge, symbolizing protection and preservation.
2. Kurma Avatar (The Tortoise Incarnation):
In this avatar, Vishnu assumed the form of a giant tortoise to support the mythical Mount Mandara during the churning of the cosmic ocean. The Kurma avatar represents stability and patience.
3. Varaha Avatar (The Boar Incarnation):
As a boar, Vishnu rescued the earth goddess, Bhudevi, by lifting her out of the primordial ocean. Symbolizing strength and protection, the Varaha avatar restored order and ensured the continuity of life on Earth.
4. Narasimha Avatar (The Lion-Man Incarnation):
Lord Vishnu took the form of Narasimha, a half-lion, half-man being, to protect his devotee Prahlada from the demon king Hiranyakashyap. Narasimha is considered a symbol of divine wrath against evil forces.
5. Vamana Avatar (The Dwarf Incarnation):
In the Vamana avatar, Lord Vishnu appeared as a dwarf Brahmin to restore balance by curbing the arrogance of the demon king Bali. Through humility and righteousness, Vamana regained control over the three worlds.
6. Parashurama Avatar (The Axe-Wielding Incarnation):
Parashurama, an embodiment of Lord Vishnu, manifested as a warrior sage wielding a mighty axe. He eradicated the corrupt and tyrannical Kshatriya rulers to restore justice and righteousness.
7. Rama Avatar (The Ideal King Incarnation):
The epic tale of Ramayana narrates the life of Lord Rama, an exemplary ruler, and embodiment of righteousness. As Rama, Lord Vishnu defeated the demon king Ravana and showcased the ideals of dharma (righteousness) and devotion.
8. Krishna Avatar (The Divine Flute Player Incarnation):
The charismatic Krishna, a beloved deity in Hindu mythology, embodied love, compassion, and divine wisdom. As the central character of the Mahabharata, Krishna guided Arjuna on the path of righteousness in the Bhagavad Gita.
9. Balarama Avatar (The Elder Brother Incarnation):
Balarama, the elder brother of Krishna, represents strength and loyalty. He supported Krishna in his divine mission and was revered as a symbol of agricultural prosperity and power.
10. Kalki Avatar (The Future Incarnation):
The Kalki avatar is yet to come, as Lord Vishnu's final incarnation. It is believed that Kalki will appear at the end of the Kali Yuga (the current age of darkness and moral decline), riding a white horse, to restore righteousness and initiate a new golden age.
The avatars of Lord Vishnu are not merely mythical tales but carry profound symbolism and teachings. Each avatar reflects a divine purpose, illustrating various aspects of Lord Vishnu's role as the preserver and the protector of the universe. The stories of these avatars continue to inspire millions, imparting valuable lessons about righteousness, devotion, and the triumph of good over evil.
