It was almost funny, how quickly the denizens of Halloweentown had bounced back. Though they had been angry with him for the attack at first, they soon lost interest in his existence. Because his spell had done little actual damage to the town or its people, most had thought it more of an annoying prank than anything when the anger had worn off.

That suited Kal just fine. It allowed him to settle back into his life without issues, and for the most part he had kept to himself in the years since his showdown with Marnie Piper. There was no need for him to stir the pot. Not when there always seemed to be another villain waiting in the wings these days. They kept the Cromwells distracted and well away from him, and the former mayor’s son was grateful he’d somehow managed to avoid a run-in with Aggie and her grandchildren despite him still living in town. Or at least he had been…until he found himself face to face with his former foe as she walked into the very ice cream parlor he had been about to exit.

How long before Disney tries to reboot Halloweentown and kills that franchise too

I think people attribute the feminization of the word witch (and the masculinization of the word wizard) to JK Rowling too much. It definitely was a problem before her she just made it a bit worse but there are pretty of 80s and early 90s movies and shows that don't like to call guys witches and use the word warlock a lot for magic guys

“Of course you didn’t,” Kal swiftly retorted, heaving an almost defeated sigh when he saw the look on her face. Marnie was a Cromwell. She didn’t need to worry about her reputation the way he did. Even when she’d started dating him, it had been him the denizens of Halloweentown had looked upon with suspicion. He would forever be stuck making amends for crimes he’d committed when he was young and stupid. And now his girlfriend had went and dragged him into this mess, which he had a funny feeling he was going to end up being blame for despite his attempts to warn her off. “Need I remind you that I also seemed nice at first? The difference is, I’ve never practiced any sort of demonic magic.”

"I..." She froze on the spot looking at him sadly. "I'm sorry, I didn't consider that." their circumstances weren't normal, and it was easy for her to forget that when she naturally saw the best in people. Her hands scrubbed down her face as he continued. "I thought he was a nice guy." but she had been played, not for the first time someone used her trusting nature against her. "I do trust you, but he seemed nice, so I figured you were just being a little overprotective... I'll follow your lead from now on, promise. Just please don't stay mad at me?"

Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge is on and it’s so amusing to me that Kimberly J. Brown (Marnie) met up with Daniel Kountz (Kal) in 2016, started dating, and got married in April of this year, 2024.

Okay so I give up. I can't decide between two different options for my Halloweentown fic so- help me

Should The Crane Institute be a story about Sophie Piper or about Marnie's kids?

My brain cannot decide. I think Sophie makes more sense from a fanfiction standpoint, also for her 'rival' to be the daughter of Kalabar/sister of Kal, but like- I like the idea of it being a next gen with Marnie's kids trying to like- live up to the family legacy and casting Sophie as like- the cool lesbian aunt who works for the school. But it leaves the connection to Kalabar as more like- convoluted

Talking with the youngest Cromwell left Kal feeling oddly unsettled. Though Sophie hadn’t done anything to warrant such uneasiness in him, he couldn’t shake the feeling that the litte witch was up to some sort of mischief - quite possibly involving him. “Witch U is a good school,” the warlock offered in response to the information that Marnie was in town, his tone polite and his smile bland. “Or maybe I should say it was.”

“The curriculum’s changed since I graduated. They had to switch things up to accommodate…” Trailing off a bit awkwardly, he cleared his throat and tucked his hands in his pockets before he said too much. “Well, it hardly matters now. I’m sure she’ll do amazing in her class regardless of the changes. She’s a Cromwell,” Kal finished lamely. “But feel free to tell her to stop by, if you like. I’ve got no shortage of free time now that I’m not plotting to get revenge.”

With a shrug of her shoulders, she conceded the point. Kal and Marnie had never really had a proper chance to do... anything. To see what could have happened. "Yeah, I guess not." Sophie agreed, frowning a little bit to herself. It was kind of sad, honestly. But it wasn't like she of all people could really fix it. Or... at least not by herself. She could sure as hell put a little pressure on the glass to see if they cracked themselves, though.

"She's around." Sophie added, glancing over at him again. "She's going to school. Here. Personally I don't really get it, but I guess her training was a little... unconventional. She could probably get more from it at W.U. than I could." Not that she would completely rule it out. But Sophie had enjoyed all the travelling she had done and been doing with her grandma. She wondered if Marnie and Dylan were jealous of that. "Maybe she will stop by... I could mention that you're open to it... if you wanted?"

Luke and Marnie

As Luke sat at the kitchen table, he stared out the window and watched the stars flicker faintly. It was nothing like the way the stars lit up Halloweentown’s sky. Earth wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t home either. Here, he couldn’t be himself — always stuck in human form. Humans weren’t ready to see creatures like him and Luke knew that. Though he wouldn’t deny that being handsome again was convenient, like Kalabar had made him years ago. This time, it wasn’t about vanity, it was about blending in. Back in Halloweentown, no one had to blend in. Differences were embraced. Earth wasn’t there yet.

There was a reason that Luke had come to Earth. Something was wrong in Halloweentown, the same creeping unease he’d felt when Kalabar rose to power, and later with his son, Kal. Luke had always suspected Kal would return but the last thing he wanted was to worry Marnie — at least not yet. He hadn’t seen her in years, and now that they were sharing space as friends, things were awkward. They were close, but never close enough. It had always been that way with her.

He sighed, running a hand through his hair, listening to Marnie moving around in the other room. They’d fallen into a routine over the past few weeks — living together as if it were the most normal thing in the world, even though every conversation was challenging. He wondered if she had any idea how much he still cared — if she noticed the way his gaze lingered too long when she smiled. But now wasn’t the time to think about that. He needed to stay focused.

“Marnie,” he called softly, not looking up. “You ever think about going back?” Luke stopped himself, swallowing hard. The last thing he wanted was for her to realize the truth. “Never mind, forget it.” He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. “Want to grab some food with Amanda and the others from class? She invited me but I'd feel bad going without you. Figured I’d see if you were up for it.”

The knock came far too early in the morning. Kal would have happily rolled over and continued to ignore it, had whoever was behind it not cast a sound magnification spell on the door. Each impatient, urgent rap on the wood echoed through the house like a thunder clap, and the warlock reluctantly dragged himself out of bed with an unhappy scowl to see who the hell was darkening his doorstep so shortly after sunrise.

For the last ~20 years I’ve always rewatched Halloweentown and Halloweentown II every year in October. I’d occasionally watch the third one, but it just wasn’t the same, very meh. But I have always refused to watch the fourth movie since they did my girl Kimberly J. Brown SOOOO so dirty by recasting Marnie with that little blue eyed skinny bitch. But this year I figured hell I’ll give it a try I GUESS.

And y’all. It is TRASH 😤 I mean the recasting is so much worse than I thought it would be and whyyy is there this weird forced romance between Marnie and that blonde twink from High School Musical?? There was zero chemistry between them in the third movie, hell where is the other guy she met in the third movie??? And it’s an absolute injustice that they didn’t bring back Luke! Where did he go??? He was Marnie’s first friend in Halloweentown, how they just gonna get rid of him?? And lastly, there’s no Sophie. She’s off “training” but damn. Honestly the fourth movie should’ve just followed her character if they were just gonna recast Marnie anyway. Teen Sophie training to be a witch would’ve been way more interesting 🙄

AND ANOTHER THING. At the end of the second movie, they stop Kal and he disappears. But Luke says “he’ll be back” which is like a total setup for another movie involving Kalabar and/or Kal and more evil plans. But did Kal come back?? NOPE. Literally no one ever talked about that whole incident ever again.

How bout this - Let’s just pretend the fourth movie was a hallucination and instead Disney should make a fifth Halloweentown with Kimberly J. Brown reprising her role as Marnie again, and Daniel Kountz as Kal returning 20 years later to wreak havoc (Plus they’re married in real life so their chemistry would be off the charts!) Like man, it could maybe follow Dylan’s daughter or something, who is JUST like her aunt Marnie as a teen (which drives him CRAZY but he’s still supportive of her), and Marnie can serve as her mentor just like Grandma Aggie was to her (RIP Debbie Reynolds the real mvp) and MAAANNN it could be so good!

I mean they made a new Hocus Pocus after 30 years so literally what’s stopping them from making a new Halloweentown 🙄
