Tick -

The maddening encroach of time pressed against the walls of the grandfather clock,
Still nothing at the front door.
The time for their meeting had passed, Kai’s weekly visit scheduled and now denied. The throne had been taken too quickly, leaving everyone in chaos and confusion - but a definite enemy that all fingers could be pointed towards. The Spades had taken the throne, stepped into the limelight, and now everyone could see where to aim.
A frown played at the corner of his mouth, but Cassian refocused his attention on his meal. Picking up a knife and fork and cutting into the pan-seared salmon and assorted salad. It wasn’t as though he wanted to see Kai, desired the admiration and attention the other focused on him. It had merely been an arrangement and now routine had been interrupted, that was the cause of frustration. Though the entire week had been routine dismembered.

Rrringg.
Cassian’s eyes glanced at the corridor outside the dining room, and he gently laid his cutlery down, took off his napkin and folded it in quarters and placed it next to his plate.
Staccato steps and a quick glance out of the camera screen, before Cassian is pressing the button to open the gates, unlatching the front door and straightening his shirt, waiting a moment, two, three, then opening the door to the incoming Kai.

You can never keep a wild beast caged for long. Nature will run its course and a feral creature will do as it is bred to do. Both the untamed wolf and the sly fox, Grace sulked in her cage like a lion at a zoo, ready to pounce and sink her fangs into flesh. Destruction was an elegance never found far from her fingertips - and in this environment, surrounded by their enemies, she was chomping at the bit to begin. They had thought they could humble Gods and end the lives of immortals. How naive they had been. How bitterly they would feel as they paid the price, Grace exerting her own private - personal - toll.
The seconds felt like minutes as she waited for her release, fingers curled around the bars as the cage came crashing to the ground - an almighty inferno enough to deafen anyone. But this was the sort of environment she thrived within, the sort that promised chaos and danger. Busting out the weakened bar, Grace stepped up to her full height, inhaling the sharp night air. Allowing herself one moment of peace - a brief split second of mortality - she quickly turned towards the task at hand - more play than work in truth. To her left, she spotted a pile of butterfly knives, fingers eagerly inching towards them - greedy. Only with a weapon in her hand could she feel complete. Testing her limits, she narrowed her gaze and selected her nearest target - the fool who had thought he could bring the Grace Daly to her knees. It neatly lodged in his side, a crimson stream beginning to flow. It was beautiful. All she needed was to now place one in the side of her sister - and lord over her fading body as the lights flickered out inside.
Distracted by a family feud, she only registered her attacker at the last moment, a flash of movement to her side. Stepping out of the way just in time, she found herself face to face with Kai - the abandoned child himself. Lips curled into a trademark smirk, she pushed her fallen hair out of her eyes, preparing to fight. “Isn’t it past your bedtime little boy?”

date: April 3rd location: Twelfth Night Gardens status: Closed @kaiusmartius
The night was young; in fact, the sky still held an almost deep royal hue, as if it wanted to cling to the last bits of blue tint from the day’s sky, as if it didn’t want to succumb to the darkness of night (though, Regina wouldn’t understand such a notion, herself). Perhaps it knew what happened in Verona when the moon was at its highest, what happened as the witching hour cast its spell over the city – and this night, it may even be quite literally, given who was running the show. Regina could not live in fear after the events at the circus, mostly because she did not fear anything; after all, one couldn’t be surprised there were others out to mess with the most powerful mobs in Verona, ones wishing to stir up troubles when the two main parties (and the third simply waiting for another chance to strike, she suspected).
But even as the patrons occasionally glanced over their shoulders and carefully inspected the drinks they ordered, they appeared to be enjoying themselves. Unable to be skeptical of the night, Regina simply swirled the contents of a half-emptied glass in one hand, the other holding onto the back of the chair she leaned on near the bar. A familiar figure stood nearby, though she could not blame him for not taking notice of her – she wouldn’t have cared either way. Regina did, however, speak a word of warning. “The line’s much too long; I doubt you’ll be able to get a refill before the show begins.”

location: the tempest lounge
open: @kaiusmartius
The thrumming beat of the music drowns out her thoughts, at least for a moment. Things have been less than pleasing for the Daly woman, to say the least; evading both Montagues and Spades alike is tiring, almost cowardly–but what can the halfhearted soldier do? Continue to run, of course.
It was at Kai’s request that they venture to the Tempest Lounge, that they both at least try to take a break from constantly looking over their shoulders and enjoy the night. And so, Catherine obliged; and now, she maneuvers through the throng of people dancing to make it back to the emissary–with two glasses in her hands. There’s a mischievous quirk of her lips that reveals she’s trying to go along with their plans of partaking in a night of revelry. One hand extends to the man as she says impishly, “For you. Just something to take the edge off of things.” Just something to calm her nerves, to stop her from observing rather than relishing in the slight freedom that being in neutral territory provides.
She ignores the fact that Faron and his Spades hold little regard for the witches and their rules, and instead queries, “Tell me, Kai--do you really think we'll make it through the night without a hitch?"
