1/ 'my immediate thought was late-KH1 Riku being like ‘I hate you. Die.’ and his daemon rubbing up against Sora’s and being really affectionate with it, betraying the love in his heart' LMAO my thoughts exactly. also Riku's daemon being the chillest entity out there while he's having teenage angst.... poetic cinema. honestly, while dream eaters being daemons would be cool I kinda have a hard time imagining them talk? too much of the "not from our reality" vibes ig.

2/ A dog for Riku would be nice, considering the lengths of his loyalty to Sora. I was also thinking big cats? like snow leopard. my brain kinda malfunctions when I try to come up with something for Sora, but bunny!Sora concept that Canary has really grown on me (also one of the characters from HDM who had a rabbit daemon kinda left a hole in my soul). Sora really makes it a point to help ppl he meets so figures his daemon would be friend-shaped.

3/ More of an afterthought, but I also like the idea of Namine having a bird daemon 'cause she's a "witch", and witches in HDM always have bird daemons to fly along with them. And Sora and Roxas having extremely different daemons just to make it a point that they're different people. And while I'm not certain about Riku, Terra DEFINITELY has a dog daemon.

Ig since Nomura constantly associates Sora w felines (initial concept lionboy Sora, lion cub Sora in the Pride Lands, his Meow Wow dream eater, catboy Sora in Monsters Inc, tbh even anti-form is reminiscent of a feral cat) my brain goes to cats for him, even though he doesn’t really have the personality of a cat… Well, maybe that’s not entirely true. Some cats are cuddly and social… They’re really funny when they get wound up… Sora’s curious and does like to nap a lot in the sun lmao

Sora also wants to be like big and imposing, but he’s so small and cute instead, which reminds me of a cat. That doesn’t mean he should be underestimated, though! All cats have claws…

I asked my bf and he said Sora reminds him of a monkey, which makes me think of those later-concept sketches of Sora like walking on his hands and having a convo w Kairi while he’s hanging upside down from a tree branch dhhfhdhs Later-concept Sora was very acrobatic. He’d fit in at a circus.

A bunny’s cute… Something aquatic might be interesting, too, since Sora loves sailing. Maybe a seal or sea lion or something. They are very friend-shaped, can be trained to do fun tricks, and also like to nap in the sun. And even though they look cute and are usually friendly, they’re still predators. (They’re also bouncy like Meow Wows!)

Yeah, something loyal and hard-working for Riku, like a canine. I already said wolf, but it’s true! haha Wolves especially are fiercely loyal and protective. They’re big and sometimes scary, but they’re quite playful and caring w their pack. Sometimes a wolf wanders on its own, which is where we get the phrase “lone wolf” from, but it never wants to be alone, which also reminds me of Riku.

A swan also comes to mind for Riku. They’re big, graceful, beautiful birds, but they’re not timid. They’re fiercely protective, and they mate for life. Google says they can pair bond v young, which makes me think of how Riku’s been dedicated to Sora since he was like 5. Swans are also a symbol of light and sacred to Apollo, which is why his chariot’s often pulled by swans or composed of swans in art. (Wolves are also sacred to Apollo, apparently! Haha)

Also, the phrase “swan song” comes from the belief that swans sing beautifully upon death, which reminds me of Riku’s light singing or ringing when Sora calls out to him in the tunnel... Idk 🤷‍♀️

I can totally see a bird for Namine! Idk what kind… but maybe a songbird? She’s always kind of reminded me of a caged bird singing… And yeah, I can see a dog for Terra, too. What kind of dog were you thinking of?

KH Deep Sea AU

Okay! I’m not really sure how to start this off, but I’ll do my best *lol*. This’ll probably be lengthy, and I’m definitely gonna be missing some stuff cause it’s been a minute since I’ve thought through this AU, but I saw that one or two people said they were going to write something for this so I wanna put something out there for y’all lmao

Apologies for the sketchyness of the art! 

Sora:  

In this AU, Sora is a deep sea siren and he lives deep down in the suffocating darkness of the ocean. He’s got bio-luminescent freckles and markings running up and down his body to attract prey, and a bunch of scars from various deep sea creatures and other sirens. He gets the scar in the middle of his chest while trying to save Kairi and Riku.

Kairi: 

Kairi is one of many scientists on board the Starhunter when they first meet Sora. She’s a marine biologist and was hired to help study and all marine life the Starhunter encountered. She’s childhood friends with Riku. Kairi is one of the few humans on board.

She knows something much shadier is going on on board (half the people look like they’re ready for war), but isn’t sure exactly WHAT. She’s keeping an eye on things and the people around her, but she’s excited for a chance to study deep sea fauna.

Riku:

Riku is Kairi’s childhood friend, and was the first one to make contact with Sora in a much smaller, one person sub. He’s a professional diver and in charge of everything related with the single operator subs, and was hired to dive even deeper than the Starhunter could safely go. Riku is also one of the few humans on board. 

Riku also has his suspicions about the people on board and what they’re really down in the dark depths for, as he’s had prior experience with Unitarum. He demanded to board the Starhunter.

Magic:

Magic and various magical creatures exist in this world, but it’s similar to the world of Supernatural in that the common public has no idea of the monsters living around them. Half of the crew on the Starhunter are regular scientists hired by Unitarum XIII, while the other half are hired mercenaries and beings with access to magic. 

The Starhunter:

Officially, the Starhunter is down in the depths of the ocean to search for the missing ship the SS Infinity. Unofficially, they’re looking for sirens and other such creatures. 

The Starhunter is a massive deep sea vessel, way ahead of its time in terms of technology (and Kairi and Riku wonder about that) held together and reinforced by magic and shields. It’d take a lot of firepower to take down this sub, but it’s much too large to do the fine deep sea diving they really need, hence the smaller one person subs.

Sirens:

Sirens in this AU have yet to be discovered, what with how deep they live. Very few creatures are able to withstand the crushing depths Sirens dwell in, and while there are still occasional sightings and thousands upon thousands of stories and mythos surrounding the elusive beings, none have ever been captured.

Sirens are heavily magical, as well, with their natural magical levels being almost astronomically higher than many other creatures. They have to be, to survive at these depths. They also have a sort of “Atlantis”, named Tene, in the second deepest part of the ocean, lit with magic and swarming with creatures of varying sizes.

Siren culture is very rich as well, with thousands of stories and tales being passed from generation to generation. They have a monarchy as well, with a royal family running the city and surrounding plains. Sora’s magical levels are one of the highest among sirens, what with him being one of the heirs to the throne, which makes him a high prize should he be captured.

Sirens have their own language as well, though language barriers are practically nonexistent with other species with the help of magic. 

Other Creatures in the Ocean: 

Alongside sirens, theres a wide variety of magical animals living in the ocean, though most simply don’t have enough magical reserves to help them go so deep. Mermaids exist as well, and they actually get commonly confused to Sirens (and vice versa) but the differences are much more apparent up close and personal.

Mermaids have teeth closer to that of humans, and have a wider diet. They tend to be nonviolent and keep to themselves, living in the photic zone of the ocean. Sirens, on the other hand, have a mouth full of razor sharp teeth and they only eat meat because of the lack of flora on the ocean floor. Their tails are longer and they have bio-luminescent markings, and they can perfectly mimic any sound they hear. 

Down in the deepest, darkest part of the ocean, even deeper than Tene, lies an area of the ocean where no siren dares venture. Many rumors and mythos surround this area, named Inanis (meaning “void” in siren). Inanis has absolutely crushing depths, and the pressure is so great that only members of the royal family are able to travel very uncomfortably there. 

Perhaps the most famous rumor surrounding Inanis is that of Improbus. Improbus (Heartless in Siren) is said to be a creature of immeasurable length, who’s belly makes up the ocean floor and who’s hunger knows no bounds. Of course, no one knows for sure whether such a creature exists, but the noises that many hear from Inanis have yet to be explained...

Unitarum XIII:

Unitarum is the Organization 13 of this world. Above water, they’re an official government agency who’s goal is to salvage ship wrecks and protect the creatures of the ocean. Under water, they’re a shady organization with their fingers in many different pies and they are very much aware of the existence of magic. 

Their goal in this AU is to find siren city of Tene and take its magical prowess for themselves, though to do so they first need to capture a siren to help with the crushing depths.
