Chain Chronicle, ep.7
I like it.
The first episode (and maybe first few) is pretty confusing because we’re dropped at the end of a standard vs evil overlord campaign, when the hero has a full party, who’ve all done their backstory quests, and I didn’t know who anyone was, since I didn’t play the game.
And then the heroes lose.
I won’t say it was handled perfectly, but I can appreciate the toss up that is starting at the climax of an ongoing war, only to have the heroes just totally get trashed and then have to pick themselves up again. And it’s not a simple thing to shake off. It’s a huge part of Yuri’s arc, that he was the hero and he lost. It’s an interesting toss up, if nothing else.
At first, I kept watching because Yuri’s design reminded me of MaoYuu’s hero and it was amusing, but I actually quite like Yuri and his corruption arc. I legit had to pause a couple times during the scene with Kain because that was pretty dang good. Aram is also very cute. And the world feels expansive without being elaborated on in details. (And the OP is rocking.)
One thing that’s just plain hilarious is the Dark Knight’s form. Because in the anime, you get Yuri and then he just.... switches to the Dark Knight’s appearance. And they don’t match at all. At all. Burckhart is still clearly recognizable, pre and post corruption. But Yuri? I assume it’s because they’re using the game’s Dark Knight design, where you weren’t supposed to know he’s Bad End Yuri until the end (or so spoilers tell me), but it’s still hilarious when just watching the anime. Like how? How did Yuri become that??
But yeah, this show started out meh and has grown on me. It just hits a lot of stuff I’m really a sucker for, especially with Aram and Yuri and their relationship. I also like Phoena and Juliana. Like, go, ladies.

Chain Chronicle - Episode 7
Aram steps up to the plate as I thought he would, since narratively he’s the only one with enough focus to bring them together without Yuuri.
But he couldn’t keep them together, everyone still left. Which means it is now the Aram and Phoena show...not what I’m really interested in :/
I think I’m gonna have to stop here. It’s been fun, but I’ve been losing interest since it started focusing on Yuuri falling to the darkside, and despite how hot Yuuri is now that he’s an antagonist, it’s not enough to keep me interested.
In conclusion, I knew Kain wasn’t gonna die.

Funimation Dub Announces "Chain Chronicle – The Light of Haecceitas" And "Masamune-kun’s Revenge" Dub Casts
Early this week, Funimaiton is expanding their winter 2017 SimulDub line-up with two more series. Monday's debut of Masamune-kun’s Revenge will be followed by Tuesday's Chain Chronicle – The Light of Haecceitas –. In preparation, they have announced their English dub casts.
Chain Chronicle – The Light of Haecceitas –
Premieres Tuesday Feb 7 at 9:00pm ET
This is the story of the Chain Chronicle, a book that describes everything that happens in the world.
The citizens of the remote continent of Yggd once thought that there was nothing beyond their continent. The continent was divided into several regions, each with its own king. Though there were small skirmishes amongst them, a lord, chosen by the kings in conference, always maintained balance — until the evil Black Army arrived.
“All will be engulfed in black.”
The Volunteer Army, led by Yuri, was no match for the Black Army. During the fighting, the Lord of Black captures half of the Chain Chronicle, as well as the capital. During their retreat, Yuri and the Volunteer Army encounter a boy fighting the Black Army all by himself.
So begins the story of the Chain Chronicle, of the Volunteer Army’s and Black Army’s battles for the fate of the world, and of friendship.

Chain Chronicle - Episode 6
Once again I thought they were going to stretch it out more but apparently not.
I liked how Yuuri rejected them to the end, but the dark side just had a card up their sleeve.
I should have expected that short convo between the second-in-commands and sudden focus on Kain to be a death flag but I completely missed it due to the lack of concern I had...
What did get to me was that effective parallel between Julianna’s coronation and Yuuri’s fall to the dark side. Painful, but man was it good.
In conclusion, it’s such a pity that Yuuri is hotter when he’s evil. I guess Aram might become the protagonist now...
