AND THE ARGUMENTS HAVE STARTED, AGAIN!!

I've been reading some arguments about whether or not Kai can be redeemed and if he deserved the treatment Deku gave him.

First of all, there is no right or wrong opinion about his redemption. That is solely up to him and the people he's hurt. We're all going to have different opinions based off of our personal experience in life, so let's start off by respecting that.

Spoiler warning for the anime only's🥰

As for Deku's conversation with Kai, there is indeed a right and wrong opinion, and most of you already know my thoughts on this.😅

It's the absolute worst thing Deku could of EVER said in that situation.

Not only did his words dismiss Kai's emotions toward Pops, but also put Eri in potential danger.

"You want to apologize to your Pops, huh? If you can feel the same for Eri, I'll let you see your Pops."

Chisaki is DESPERATE to see Pops, who knows what ideas his sick, twisted brain went to. The most likely contender is go to Eri, beg for forgiveness (fake forgiveness), then command to see Pops once he forces it out of her.

Chisaki ALREADY feels guilt! And that's amazing! It appals me that so many people didn't recognize that! And those who did said he was directing it to the wrong person.

No, he wasn't directing his guilt to the wrong person. There are many people Kai needs to feel guilty for hurting, Pops is one of them.

Kai's empathetic skills are limited, it's going to be a time consuming, step by step, therapeutic process to broaden them. Like teaching an old dog new tricks. Feeling guilty and wanting to apologize to Eri will be his GOAL!

You can't tell a dog to jump through a hoop if he's never done it before or even thought about it. First you have to let him get used to seeing the hoop, understand what it is, what it does, and how to use it. Then he needs to feel what it's like to walk through the hoop, experience an easier version of his goal. Then, finally, over time, once you raise the hoop into the air he'll jump through.

Kai loves Pops (in his own warped version of love), so him wanting to apologize to someone he cares for is like walking through the hoop.

And with the right words of knowledge about his empathy, getting used to what it feels like and understanding when, why, and whom to feel it for, he can feel the same toward Eri.

Now, for those who might try using that metaphor against me by saying the dog needs a treat to encourage it to jump through the hoop, insinuating that Kai meeting Pops is his reward for apologizing to Eri, then your wrong. His apology wouldn't be sincere, it would be a stepping stone to what he wants. His goal is to FEEL sorry, to want to apologize out of pure feelings of guilt, to want to make up for his wrongs. Adding something to gain in the end is counterproductive.

Sorry if this got confusing... now that I've proof read, all I can think about is Kai in dog form jumping through a hoop😅

RED program au post canon

Since I made (and plan to make more) fics regarding Chisaki being out of jail I decided to gather some basis for that storyline to make it less confusing.

It's sort of continuation of this post but I want this au to be canon compliant and we don't know yet what's gonna happen to Chisaki.

So this is kinda part 3. Feel free to ask about it!

• Bringing the villain back into the society is a crucial point in the RED program.

• Chisaki is granted a social apartment in a quiet part of Tokyo.

• He wears an ankle bracelet that alerts police and heroes taking care of him if he leaves his zone.

• The zone is quite big - he can walk a few kilometers away from his flat.

• The zone contains necessities: a mall, a park, a coffee shop, a small clinic etc.

• Chisaki must attend counseling twice a week, has 6 months to find a job. After this time he gets evaluated regarding the continuation of the program.

• Nao is not his counselor anymore, but stays close anyway. He helps Chisaki to get out of his flat on daily basis.

• Chisaki wears advanced prosthetics gifted to him by Nao’s boss. He doesn't know there's a tracker in them as well.

• He finds a job at a nearby konbini - an older man hires him as a help around the shop.

• Because Chisaki is reluctant to leave his flat and usually disguise himself outside he's considered an urban legend in the neighborhood.

• Everyone knows there's an ex villain living there but it's very hard to spot him.

• Apart from a few individuals people don't care much about Chisaki living there.

• They did at the start but got used to that fact after a while.

• Chisaki is also quite popular with older ladies. Once they learn he's not harmful and easy to order around they start using his help frequently.

• Being raised in yakuza made him polite to the elderly after all.

Why isn't Pops demanding better prison conditions for Chisaki? It's clear, Pops believes he's responsible for Chisaki, to the extend of wanting to scowl him until one of them dies. Yet, he's willing to turn a blind eye to Chisaki's mental and physical state? Where's Pops' so-called humanity?

Chisaki's mental state has deteriorated greatly since his arrest. He had his arms ripped off within the first hours in hero custody. He lost his arms, his quirk, and what he believed, was any chance to revive Pops, all at once. At no point, did any of the heroes think to send Chisaki to therapy to overcome the trauma, or even fit him with prothestics? Chisaki is unable to function without daily assistance now.

Yes, Chisaki is a villain—but where's Pops demanding to the guards that Kai get prothestics, all while scowling Chisaki about straying away from humanity? I'd expect Pops to be negotiating Chisaki's prison sentence, probably Kurono's too, reminding the heroes about the incident with the League and using whatever influence he has left to sway them.

At this point, Kai isn't capable of becoming Overhaul again, he's completely broken. Yet, Pops, and Izuku, are content with seeing Chisaki like this? What happened to saving the crying child or villain redemption?

SPOILERS FOR BNHA 427 BELOW

I actually like how Overhaul's story is ending.

People get on Endeavour's case about him being an abuser and how he got a redemption when he should have died, but then I saw people who kept saying that Overhaul should have had a chance to do the right thing and have his redemption.

Here's the main difference between the two: Endeavour actually regretted the things he did and wanted to better himself as a person. He tried doing what he could to help his victims while understanding that he may never get forgiveness, which was okay for him because he understood that they didn't owe him anything in return. When Natsuo said he was going no contact, Enji was okay with that because this was Natsuo's choice, just as it would be the rest of the family's choice what they want to do in the future. His redemption arc worked because he was bettering himself with no expectations of getting anything in return for it; it was for the people he hurt.

Now look at Overhaul: he never regretted the things he did other than his boss's coma. All the people he killed or maimed? No. The treatment of his subordinates? Nope. What he did to Eri? Absolutely not. Even when Deku found him after the Tartarus Prison Break, all he wanted to do was use Eri again to reverse what was done to him (funny enough, it's what many in the fandom wanted her to do for several characters, HMMMMMM). How can redemption be given to someone who shows no remorse for what he did?

Now Chisaki's boss is confronting him with this reality: the disgust the boss feels towards him for what he did (to the boss's granddaughter, no less), the fact that his apologies are not being directed towards the person he arguably tormented the most because he never cared for her, and that he will be forced to think of his actions towards Eri for the rest of his life. The thing is, it's a path he is being forced down, not one he is taking the initiative to walk himself.

People can have their own opinions on both these characters; that's the beauty of fiction, you make of it what you interpret. At the same time, writing Todoroki Enji's character development and conclusion off as abuse apologist is kind of a bad take when Kai Chisaki, the character who doesn't regret his deplorable actions towards a child and made no move to actually want to apologize or make up for what he did, is given this kind of ending. I think Horikoshi did a good job at having these two characters end up where they are. Neither have a particularly happy ending, but Enji embraces this path as one he will walk as unending atonement for the harm he caused (you could say, his own personal endeavor), while Chisaki is being forced to remember his deplorable actions for the rest of his life because he didn't care about his victims as people.

P.S., The shot of Bakugou and Todoroki running away from their new admirers is priceless.

kai's post-canon verse. so this verse operates under the assumption that canon happens as we know it up until nagant frees chisaki. he armless, ambitionless, hassaikailess. you get the idea. however, the kai that we see in canon with nagant is not the one you'll see written on this blog- and i have a theory as to why he was written that way:

i imagine that horikoshi went a little too hard/too dark on overhaul and this mini-arc (and his end of canon shot) of his was a way to knock him down to a sniveling, pathetic shell of who he was to sort of ease the readers. it's hori going, "dw guys!! the bad guy's pathetic now!" type of thing.

there's no really no chance of kai getting "redemption", either. if he was to get recaptured, it'd be straight back to tartarus for him. there's no big victimization he was a part of, no super sad backstory. kai is a villain who is just bad to be bad - unlike toya, or even tenko. and as such, i tried to make his post-canon verse reflect that.

when this kai is freed by nagant, he does go with her to point out izuku, repaying his debt for her freeing him. once that contract is ended, chisaki leaves the scene, and nagant, deku, and co have their little reunion without him.*

* i am cooking up a separate verse with isa where nagant and kai stay together, rather than nagant getting recaptured.

he's on his own and seeks to reconnect/rebuild the hassaikai. he starts by finding hari, finding those who still have some loyalty to pops/to the hassaikai as a whole, and building from there. the entire operation comes from a place of humility and hard work. kai has prosthetics (with claws)*, is quirkless, and now has to use his skill and leadership to rebuild what he, himself, tore down. he returns to more a more old school yakuza way of thinking, and through his new humility and regaining some sense of humanity, the shie hassaikai is eventually rebuilt under him. this verse will likely be written/interacted with during a time where the hassaikai is known to be coming back under him, but isn't quite to its former glory.

* also, hilariously, overfeet is not completely off the table in this verse. however, to first discover that overhaul is stored in the feet, then to practice enough to get back to the level to fuse himself with new arms, and THEN to actually do so takes quite a bit of time. unless stated, kai will be written with high tech prosthetics.

All for One's hand shot forward, five fingers now clasped in an iron grip on the boy's head. His book had said something about hero analysis, hadn't it? If that was some byproduct of this child's quirk then maybe he really had lucked out today.

Sure he wasn't looking forward to the mumbling, but it was nothing that couldn't be altered away and fixed. The man grinned again, the possibilities swimming in his mind, his body already subconsciously drawing forward a few quirks to merge and mess around with as the boy's quirk-

The boy's quirk, where is it? ~ Through a series of events involving one man's delicate pride, limited edition red sneakers, and bloodthirsty koi fish, All for One ends up stealing Izuku's quirk. Except he doesn't, because said quirk doesn't exist. The logical assumption for him to make here would be that Izuku is quirkless. But an even more logical assumption, given that only 20% of the population is quirkless and 99.9% of them are in their 80s, would be that this child is the one in a billion who's quirk can't be stolen and he should be very, very afraid.

Naturally, this changes things.

You inspire me so much, thank you so much for the all the work you do! You capture Kai Chisaki so well! Kai is such a devious overly horny, touch-starved little gremlin and I love it! Of course, he's going to be super blunt and straightforward about it while struggling to hide his feelings and his over-fixation of MC goes wayyy to far, but it's close to cannon Kai, or at least, that's how I look at it, anyways!

These fics are on the darker side, which I'm all for it! Just wanted to let some know, a warning beforehand, if not, then I highly recommend them to any of my fellow Overhaul stans!

Part 1

Summary: The year is 1799 and and you have just recently being hired by the prominent and well-to-do Kai Chisaki to serve as the governess for his young daughter, Eri, in the small town of Sleepy Hollow. All seems to be going well as you grow close to your newest charge, but as her father’s seemingly innocent curiosity in you begins to grow darker and darker; bordering on what seems to be a sick obsession, and rumors of ghostly hauntings and grisly murders plague the small town you now call home, you can’t help but feel a creeping sense of dread crawl up your spine as you wonder what secrets are being kept in the whispering darkness all around you.

Warnings: Not many for this chapter, but there are some points and actions that delve into Kai’s darker mindset and showcases his tendency for controlling others and his obsessive nature.

Side Note’s: Just a few quick things to help give you an idea as to how this AU’s world is set up. So first off, there are no quirks in this world and while I am aware that all the characters except for the Reader are canonically Japanese, This story will be getting based in the United States at the same time as the original Sleepy Hollow short story took place, so please be kind and try to remember that this is a fanfic and and don’t take any of the historical inaccuracies too seriously.
