Mrs. Kageyama Reaches ???%
People have different sides to them. Mrs. Kageyama is fine with that. She knew getting into motherhood that her kids would bring some things to their parents, and other things, they’d want to deal with on their own. That’s fine. That’s what people do!
She, for instance, worries over her kids out loud, in front of them, but only about the little things. Bumps and scrapes. Bent spoons, dropped dishes. Not the big things. She locks the big things away like an adult, only letting them out a little bit at a time so she doesn’t explode. She whispers to her husband in the dark when the kids won’t overhear them: are there any psychics in your family? Do you think your parents would know anything about how to help Shige?
As far as either Kageyama parent can tell, there aren’t any psychics in their extended families at all. Shigeo Kageyama was the first person out of the ordinary in both entire bloodlines, all the way back to the farmers (on Mrs. Kageyama’s side) and fishermen (on Mr. Kageyama’s side) who started keeping records of their family lines. And oh, it worries Mrs. Kageyama that she doesn’t know how to connect with that side of him.
There’s nothing she can do. Shigeo floats in the air as a baby, and Mr. Kageyama pulls him down like a balloon, but he floats right back up again, and there’s nothing Mrs. Kageyama can do but wait until her baby gets hungry and comes down to her again.
As a toddler, Shigeo talks to things Mrs. Kageyama couldn’t see. He repeats swear words she couldn’t hear the spirits teaching him. Actually, in that case, there is something she could do; one conversation later, Shigeo understands some social niceties he didn’t know about before.
But she can’t help with the root problem of the spirits who teach him words that he shouldn’t know. She wishes she was a psychic, too, not because it seems like fun—it certainly doesn’t, not to her—but because at least she would know what her son was dealing with.
But it isn’t that big of a deal, probably. Shige manages fine. He floats potato chips around to make Ritsu laugh and levitates all the small objects around him when he cries. It’s just another side of him. Shigeo is clearly bothered when other kids think he’s weird, but the Kageyamas let him deal with that by himself. All they can do, really, is keep loving him, feeding him, and making sure he gets to bed on time. The rest will sort itself out. Some things just wouldn’t be helped by parents getting involved.
Shigeo gets quieter as he got older. He still smiles and plays, but he doesn’t laugh out loud as much. He got self-conscious, Mrs. Kageyama thinks, because of those other little kids. Part of Mrs. Kageyama wishes she could talk to him about it, but that’s not how these things are done. Even if she tried to coax Shigeo’s hidden hurt feelings out into the open, all the parenting advice says that that would just stop him from developing the strength to deal with it on his own. And besides, real adults don’t make their children deal with their parents’ emotions.
So she hides that side of herself away. She whispers to her dear husband late at night, what if Shigeo is actually being bullied? What’s the point where we should step in?
He doesn’t know. He says, I think the boy is doing fine for now. Let’s let him socialize by himself for a while. She agrees. They let him socialize by himself. Sometimes he comes home from the park muted and weary, but he usually perks up once he’s eaten dinner, and Ritsu never fails to get a smile out of Shige.
Ritsu can connect with that side of Shigeo that Mrs. Kageyama can’t. His delight in his brother’s powers makes Shigeo smile where Mrs. Kageyama’s loving concern would just be smothering. So that’s all right. Different people can help with different needs.
Shige and Ritsu are good kids. They’re good kids, and they love each other, and they love their parents. But there are things they don’t come to their parents for. And that’s natural.
One New Year’s Day, Mrs. Kageyama got a call from a concerned neighbor and rushed to her sons. She found Shigeo standing stunned, blank-eyed, a few feet away from Ritsu, who was bleeding heavily from a head wound. Head wounds bleed a lot, she was informed by the doctors who stitched Ritsu’s precious little head up. That’s normal.
There was more blood on the ground than what could be explained by Ritsu’s head. Since she didn’t have to do anything about it, Mrs. Kageyama allowed herself to forget that fact. And then she forgot it again whenever she thought of it. Forcefully.
Ritsu didn’t explain what happened. He just went along with his mother and the doctors in a stunned, disbelieving kind of silence. He was a model patient, the doctors said.
Alarmingly, Shigeo didn’t explain what happened, either.
Mrs. Kageyama scrubbed the blood off his face in the hospital bathroom, and he didn’t resist at all. His hair didn’t rise up off his forehead in discomfort, and nothing floated, not even the water from the sink.
She squinted at him. Something was strange about him. Looking into his cast-down eyes, she could almost see something behind Shigeo’s blank expression. Something…
Something…
“Shige…?”
Shigeo made dull eye contact, and for a moment she saw with perfect clarity a boy behind his eyes, a boy with white eyes, screaming.
And then she un-saw it. Forcefully.
After all, there was nothing she could do; everyone has different sides to them, and that’s normal. Not everyone can deal with all the sides of everyone else.
After that, something is different in the Kageyama household. It feels almost like the boys had hit puberty early. Mrs. Kageyama heard from other mothers and parenting books about teenagers, how difficult they were, almost like they became different people overnight. It’s like that with Shigeo and Ritsu, only they’re still baby-faced little boys, not teenagers at all.
The tendency Shigeo always had to turn into a muted shadow of himself after a particularly hard day becomes the norm. He’s quiet. Too quiet. He’s calm. Too calm. He doesn’t laugh at all anymore. It becomes hard to remember that Shigeo was ever genuinely, visibly happy. His smiles at dinner are muted, his eyes always tired, even when he’s thanking Ritsu for unbending his spoons.
He doesn’t use his powers anymore. Not on purpose, anyway.
It hurts the side of Mrs. Kageyama that she has hidden away, the side that wants to stare deep into Shigeo’s eyes and talk to him honestly, to show him her overpowering concern for the part of himself that Shigeo doesn’t come to her for help with.
It’s not like he’s a teenage delinquent or anything, though. He’s perfectly polite. In some ways, he’s exactly the same as before. He still returns from school tired and distant but cheers up at the dinner table, even though his expressions are subtler, nowadays.
But unlike before, Ritsu can’t cheer Shigeo up.
It’s similar with Ritsu: it’s impossible to explain to other mothers how he’s changed. He’s still a model child. He’s still cheerful and helpful and nice. He just…
Sometimes Mrs. Kageyama hears him crying at night. Sometimes she catches sight of him staring at objects with such a fierce expression that she knows instantly what he’s trying to do.
The parenting advice doesn’t cover what you do when one of your children hurt the other one but both of them refuse to acknowledge that anything is wrong. The parenting advice says that if your children are angry at each other, you should give them some advice but mostly let them work it out on their own. But what if they don’t work it out? What if they never even try? There’s nothing to say.
Their family name, Kageyama, begins to seem like a cruel joke. Kage, shadow, figure, dark omen; yama, mountain, something huge and powerful. Mr. Kageyama is the one who points that out, late at night, whispering to his wife. He asks, do you think we’re cursed? Our family?
She lies, No, I think we’re fine. This is pretty normal, I think. People have different sides to them.
He thinks that over. I think you’re right. This is just… like puberty.
Now that the boys are middle schoolers, “puberty” becomes an excellent excuse to explain why the boys don’t share their other sides with their parents or each other. Everyone in the household embraces the excuse with relief.
Ritsu gets good grades. Excellent grades. He’s diligent. Too diligent. He’s a perfect son and brother. Too perfect. Everyone accepts it.
It’s been years since the New Years incident, and Ritsu and Mob—Shigeo goes by Mob at school, Mrs. Kageyama learns from his homeroom teacher—still treat each other with polite respect and no genuineness.
And—Mob? Mob? It’s a name of no identity. Mrs. Kageyama finds that nickname more and more saddening as her son’s other side drifts further and further out of reach. She calls him Shige at the dinner table and he smiles. There’s a shadow self behind his eyes, just as there’s a shadow self behind Mrs. Kageyama’s eyes.
But, after all, people have different sides to them, and that’s only natural. It used to be Ritsu who could make Shigeo happy about his powers, who could touch that side of him that Mrs. Kageyama cannot. Now, there’s someone else in her son’s life who does that: one Reigen Arataka. Her son’s after-school part-time employer and master in the psychic arts.
Shigeo doesn’t show his psychic powers to his parents, not on purpose, anyway, but she’s so, so glad he has somewhere to go to use that part of him. He’s hard to read, but Mrs. Kageyama thinks he gets something really good out of those after-school consultation hours. He often comes home thoughtful, or happier, his shoulders a little lighter, the shadow self behind his eyes not so noticeably unhappy.
She’s happy Reigen Arataka is in her son’s life.
It’s a tremendous relief when Shigeo begins to blossom in middle school. He joins a club. A club! It’s amazing!
Of all things, he chose the Body Improvement Club, which baffles Mrs. Kageyama. Shige has never been… athletic. But she’s not complaining. She’s happy for him. She nearly gasps out loud, one night, when Shigeo tentatively refers to some girl associated with (but not part of?) the Body Improvement Club, Tome Kurata, as his friend.
She nearly gasps out loud, but not quite. She hides her true excitement in that other side of herself. Her shadow self and Shigeo’s shadow self are similar, she thinks—they’re too much for the dinner table. The dinner table is a place of relaxation. Never, never does any Kageyama disturb the sacred peace of the relaxed atmosphere of the dinner table.
Which is why it’s so strange when Ritsu starts acting up and declines to eat dinner with the family.
Something is going on with Ritsu. There’s another side to him, too, but it’s locked away where Mrs. Kageyama can barely even see it. Sometimes, she forgets it’s even there. She’s ashamed of that, but there it is: Shigeo’s troubles are so much more obvious and clear-cut than Ritsu’s that… well… anyway, it becomes obvious that something is going on with Ritsu.
His grins are sharp, his eyes deadly, mannerisms completely changed. It’s as if he doesn’t realize that Mr. and Mrs. Kageyama know him. It’s as if Ritsu doesn’t realize that his parents watch both their sons closely, knowing they’re going through things that they can’t help with because they’re just normal parents and you have to let your children work things out on their own.
Mrs. Kageyama begins to wonder if Ritsu is going to confront Shigeo, finally, with the way Ritsu looks at his brother, eyes venomous. She hopes nothing bad happens. So does her husband.
But then something good happens. Something involving Reigen Arataka and psychic powers, if Mrs. Kageyama had to bet. Shigeo and Ritsu miss dinner. They come home late at night, and in the darkness, straining her ears, tense all over so that she doesn’t make a sound and scare her sons off, she hears Ritsu and Shige stopping in the hall. She hears Ritsu say goodnight, Nii-san, and Shigeo answer, mm. goodnight, Ritsu. And then—amazingly—there’s a cloth-muffled thump that might have been someone clapping someone else on the shoulder, and a quiet, happy huff that can’t have been anyone but Ritsu.
Shige doesn’t touch Ritsu. He never touches Ritsu anymore.
And yet—!
Maybe kids do work things out on their own.
After the boys’ doors close, Mr. Kageyama shifts and hugs Mrs. Kageyama tight in sheer relief. She hugs him back, fiercely, silently, choked up. She’s close to tears.
The next day, Ritsu…. Ritsu has powers. He doesn’t show them off in front of his parents, but Shigeo accidentally bends a spoon at dinner, and while Mrs. Kageyama is scolding him and arguing with Mr. Kageyama in their well-worn, comfortable ritual, Ritsu takes the spoon and just looks at it, and it unbends with a happy little flourish.
Mrs. Kageyama is so happy she could cry, and probably will cry, later, actually, when the boys aren’t around to catch her. At the dinner table, she just lets those feelings slide into her other self and grumbles, “What’s with these kids?” to make them smile.
“Here, Nii-san,” Ritsu says.
“Thanks, Ritsu,” Shigeo says, accepting the spoon. And he smiles.
Shigeo continues to change. He comes out of his shell, little by little. Ritsu gets happier, seeming younger every day. Shigeo’s friends become a bigger part of his life. He starts leaving the house not only for Reigen Arataka but for his friends, not just for the club activities, either, but for karaoke, to go out for ramen, and just to hang out.
More psychic incidents happen. The Kageyama parents can’t help with that, but they can make dinner. They can tease Shige and Ritsu about their powers. They can watch, knowing something is wrong but not pressing Shigeo on it, when he comes home from a job one day with something deep and thoughtful in his eyes. Shigeo starts drinking water instead of milk for a few days. He flinches at the sound of crows and shies away when people move too fast. Mrs. Kageyama is torn in half with the desire to ask him about it, but she doesn’t. Shigeo deals with it on his own.
Shigeo temporarily quits working with Reigen Arataka, and the Kageyamas provide a no-questions-asked, relaxed atmosphere for Shigeo to come home to. It seems to help. They see Shigeo playing video games with Ritsu and they know that Shigeo and Ritsu are going to be fine. They’re taking care of each other, better than their parents can, in some ways. Kids are resilient. Their kids are resilient. They’re so proud of them. They don’t tell them how much they know.
They cheer for Shigeo at the school marathon with all their hearts, even though the sight of him with a skinned knee gives Mrs. Kageyama a jolt of pure terror. Well, he seems to have it under control now. He doesn’t even see them as he keeps running. He’s so big.
When Ritsu opens the door to a red-headed and clearly psychic “friend of his” they’ve never heard of before and looks at them with terror in his eyes, they pretend to believe him when he asks them to leave for a spur-of-the-moment onsen trip.
Maybe it’s selfish. Mrs. Kageyama asks her husband that as they eat dinner that night, pleasantly boiled-feeling from the hot water. “Do you think it’s selfish, leaving them to deal with their psychic problems on their own?”
“Oh, they’ll be okay,” Mr. Kageyama says. “We couldn’t do anything to help them anyway. I mean, look at that!”
He points at the television, where the news is going over the psychic terrorist attack in Seasoning City yet again, with not much more information than last time. There’s live footage of police cars floating in the air.
“After all—”
The TV frizzles and fills with static. Mr. Kageyama laughs a short, helpless little laugh.
“I get it,” Mrs. Kageyama sighs. “I just worry about those boys.”
The honest side of herself writhes in pain at the understatement, but she keeps it down.
“It’s all right as long as they’re together. Shigeo will have it handled,” Mr. Kageyama says. “He’d never let Ritsu get hurt.”
There’s a moment of uncomfortable silence. In each other’s eyes, Mr. and Mrs. Kageyama see Ritsu bleeding and Shigeo with blood spattered on his face.
“That’s true,” Mrs. Kageyama says, hoping it’s true. “They’re very capable kids now.”
When Mr. and Mrs. Kageyama return home, their house has been replaced with an almost identical house. They burst into muffled laughter together in their room, covering their mouths. The pattern of the floorboards in the hall is different. How—how?
They don’t tell Shigeo and Ritsu how much they know.
Everyone has different sides to them. The Kageyama parents are at peace with this. They are at peace with the fact that they are background characters in their sons’ lives. The four Kageyamas show each other a gentle, relaxed side of themselves. It’s a sorely needed safe haven for all of them.
They could keep this up forever. Mrs. and Mr. Kageyama giggle with each other sometimes at night about how Ritsu probably won’t know they knew he was having delusions of grandeur until they’re old and gray, and maybe not even then.
Everything is alright. Still, Mrs. Kageyama sometimes misses Shigeo as a carefree little boy. Still, her shadow self yearns to connect with his.
There’s a specific kind of loneliness she thinks she shares with her older son, something not quite shared by Ritsu or her husband, although they have their own versions. She sees Ritsu use his powers to open drawers and float his school bag over, and she sees Shigeo walk across the room to get his bag, and she thinks: Shige is still stuck in his head. But she doesn’t say anything.
It’s not because of the parenting advice anymore, and it’s not because she’s worried about stunting his personal development. Shigeo is a strong person. He’s been a strong person for a long time. It’s because it’s a habit, and every time Mrs. Kageyama thinks of cornering Shigeo and just… asking him, Shige, can we talk about your powers?, she remembers that she doesn’t have powers, and how can she dare to try to connect with that side of him now, when she hasn’t really tried to do that for Shigeo’s entire life?
It’s guilt. It’s shame. It’s a habit. It’s more comfortable to stagnate.
Kids work things out on their own, right?
Besides, Shigeo isn’t repressing his emotions so much anymore, just his powers. For instance, she heard him calling Mrs. Takane, the mother of one of Mob’s childhood friends. He’s going to talk to his childhood friend again! Mrs. Kageyama is curious what he might talk to Tsubomi-chan about. Is it possible that he might finally be processing the minor bullying that used to bother him so much? But that’s probably just overthinking on her part. Shigeo doesn’t talk about it around his parents, but she’s pretty sure he used to have a crush on Tsubomi-chan, and he might still have a crush on her. Adorable. He’s growing up so fast.
When the earthquakes hit, they hit her right in the guilty conscience.
It’s Shigeo. She knows it’s him. She never really had motherly instincts, but this isn’t a motherly instinct. This is her shadow self recognizing his shadow self, which is so much like hers. The boy with white eyes, screaming. She understands what he’s doing. He’s letting out all of the destructive guilt and shame and fear and rage at himself and everything else that Mrs. Kageyama has been seeing behind his eyes for years and years.
It’s Shigeo’s shadow self, and maybe if Mrs. Kageyama had managed to be brave for once in her life and talk to him about powers, secrets, and emotions, this wouldn’t be happening.
She stares at her phone, where a grainy photo of her oldest son blurs in her vision, and she feels the sob rise in her throat and the tear drip onto the phone, obscuring the bouquet in his hand, as if someone else was doing it.
She doesn’t go out to look for him. She doesn’t have powers. She’d get killed.
It’s Reigen Arataka who brings her son home—Reigen Arataka, who she’s only met once or twice before. He’s uncharacteristically disheveled and red-eyed with crying, and his head is bleeding. Shige did that to him—it’s obvious. Shige has clearly also been crying. He looks up at his mother and father, sniffs bravely, and starts crying again.
Mrs. Kageyama kneels and hugs Shige tight. Mr. Kageyama’s arms close around her and Shigeo, encircling them, and she starts crying again.
The government gets involved, in the form of a bored-looking bald man with a strange cigarette who shows up in a helicopter. He jumps down to ground level, interrupting the crying Kageyama family and the awkwardly standing by Reigen Arataka, and says to Shigeo, “Long time no see.”
Mrs. Kageyama does not like the implication that Shigeo has met this man before.
Shigeo pushes his parents’ arms away, gently but firmly, and steps up to meet the man. He says, “I’m sorry. I’d like to help.”
“Sure, sure,” the government man says dismissively. “Might take a while to rebuild the city, but I can pretty much guarantee no one’s going to mess with you. No one died, so…” he gestures lazily with his cigarette. “This kind of thing happens every once in a while with kid espers. Just thought you might like to know.”
The government man doesn’t spare even a glance for Shigeo’s parents. They don’t ask him anything. It’s like introducing themselves might shatter the illusion of good news and make the man shout, “Gotcha! Your son is going to esper jail right now!”
The government man returns to the helicopter and lifts off. And then it’s just Shigeo, standing awkwardly on the street and not quite making eye contact with his parents, and the voice of Reigen Arataka on the phone summoning other psychics, and a man with an umbrella, “Mob”’s coworker, apparently, arriving and nervously spiriting Shigeo away to meet up with some other psychics, including the one who apparently recreated the Kageyama’s house that one time.
So they don’t address the incident immediately. Shigeo comes home that night so exhausted that he falls asleep at the table. Ritsu looks more awake, but also so dreamily happy that his parents just… don’t ask him any questions. They don’t want to disturb that happiness.
The next day, they don’t address it again. Shigeo is a heavy sleeper. He wakes up slowly, brushes his teeth, and sets off for school, which didn’t get destroyed during his shadow self’s meltdown, probably for the same reason that their house went practically untouched, though shaken, among the earthquakes. Shige doesn’t come home until very late again, and when Mrs. Kageyama gives him a bento box to eat before bed, he just says thank you. To her tentative question—were you helping with the city today, Shige?—he gives an exhausted, affirming “mm.”
He’s tired. She lets him wobble off to bed.
It doesn’t actually take very long for the city to be healed. Shige stops being tired all the time right away after his bedtime gets back to normal. He’s livelier than Mrs. Kageyama has seen him in years—smiling, joking with Ritsu, arguing with him sometimes, sulking when he feels like it. He laughs again.
He’s so different. But he’s still Shigeo. And he still has something behind his eyes. At dinner, when their eyes meet, Mrs. Kageyama’s shadow self reaches out to her son’s shadow self, still.
Which is a strange sensation, because Shigeo isn’t repressing his emotions anymore, or his powers, either. But there’s still something there, something or someone existing in reserve behind his eyes. She second-guesses herself about it at first, particularly when Mob laughs or scowls or displays his powers and emotions like he’s never thought twice about it. He seems so… whole. It’s not a child made of shadows anymore. But in other moments—when he’s watching Ritsu or when he doesn’t have much to say, when he hesitates, when he has a forgetful spell—Mrs. Kageyama is sure she sees it. Another presence within her son.
Call it motherly instincts or call it Mrs. Kageyama’s shadow self resonating with her son’s shadow self—either way, she knows. Shigeo Kageyama is still hiding another side within himself, even though that other side is happier now.
So one day, a few months after the incident, once she’s sure Shigeo is really stable like this… Mrs. Kageyama catches Shigeo before school and asks him to come home and have a talk with her after school.
He looks surprised, then nervous, then pleased.
“Yes, mom,” he says. And that’s that.
Talking to a teenager is easier than they said! That’s Mrs. Kageyama’s first, indignant thought. And then right on the heels of that thought comes what am I getting myself into?!
After school, Shigeo comes right home. Mr. Kageyama will stay at work for a while, and Ritsu has student council today; it’s the perfect time. Mrs. Kageyama sits down with her son and finds herself at a loss, not knowing exactly what to say.
Shigeo waits, watching her seriously.
“Shige,” she says, and feels her shadow self rise up in her, telling her to just break down and cry. Her voice wobbles as she tries again. “Shige, I want to tell you something. I think you’re old enough…”
Mortified alarm flashes across Shigeo’s face. Oh no! She waves her hands, trying to erase what he’s thinking.
“About your psychic powers,” she says hastily.
He looks relieved for a split second, and then his eyes widen. His hair rises up off his forehead, and she hears a slosh as something happens to the water in the sink. He’s scared? Of all things, she had not expected Shigeo to be frightened of talking about his powers. She expected him to be irritated and dismissive, like the parenting advice says that teenagers always are. The parenting advice was wrong. Again.
Suddenly reaching her limit, Mrs. Kageyama throws out all the parenting advice she’s ever heard and just… tells the truth.
“Or, ah, not about psychic powers exactly. About… Shige, I think something runs in our family, and it’s not powers, but I think you and I share it.”
Shige’s eyes grow impossibly wider. He waits like his mother is about to reveal the secrets of the universe, and in a way, she supposes, she is.
“Tell me if I’m wrong,” she says carefully. “But you have more than one “self”, don’t you?”
He opens his mouth, and nothing comes out.
Nothing at all.
Mrs. Kageyama says, “You split yourself in half, back then… I saw it happen. I’m sorry, but I didn’t know how to help, because I… I didn’t know what to do about my shadow self, either.”
“Your shadow self, mom?”
His voice is quiet, so quiet. Mrs. Kageyama nods, feeling her shadow self sob and writhe in her head. It’s an unsightly thing. It’s so possessive, so emotional. She can’t let it do whatever it wants. That would hurt her children, and she loves her children, so, so much. She would never hurt them.
“I kept it quiet because I thought…” she takes a sharp breath. “It’s too much, and I wanted to keep you and Ritsu… comfortable. Parents can’t ask their children to carry their worries.”
“What do you mean?” Shigeo asks. He sounds so young, and so hurt.
“I never asked you what it was like to have powers,” she blurts out, and the wave of guilt that follows is tremendous, but so is the relief. “I’m so sorry. I let you deal with everything on your own. I didn’t realize…”
Shigeo’s lips are trembling. He says, “Mom, you have a shadow self too?”
“You’re just like me,” she says, and how, how did she never know that honesty could feel so right? “I knew you were just like me, and I didn’t tell you. I thought you could deal with it on your own. I’m so sorry, Shige.”
“Mom,” he says, and starts crying.
To hell with parenting advice. To hell with keeping her shadow self from shattering the relaxed facade of the Kageyama household. Shigeo deserves better.
Mrs. Kageyama stumbles out of her kneeling posture and grabs her son and holds him close.
“Shige,” she says into his hair. “Shige. Shige.”
“I thought it was just me,” Shigeo gasps. “I thought it was just me in the dark.”
And, with a start, she realizes why his shadow self is different now. They switched places, didn’t they? The Shigeo she’s talking to right now is the one her shadow self used to stare at longingly across the dinner table.
“So you’re that one,” she says, with all the shaky, weepy tenderness she's been repressing for years. “Hello. I’m so pleased to finally meet you again.”
Shige sobs. Everything in the room is floating. She could cry. She does.
Then Shigeo pushes himself out of the hug and looks at his mother, trembling but clearly happy and calm in a way she’s rarely ever seen him, even when he was young.
“You're wrong,” he says. “I am myself. I accepted both parts.”
“So you’re—” Mrs. Kageyama stops, thinking that over. Does it not matter anymore, to Shigeo? Which “self” is which?
Could it not matter to her, either, someday?
Tentatively, she lets more of herself out.
“I’m so sorry, Shige. I listened to the wrong advice. I should be the one helping you figure this out, not the other way around.”
Shigeo looks her in the eye. He says, “Adults can change too. It’s not too late.”
She looks back, and in his eyes she sees both of him, and she knows that now he sees both of her too. And she is not afraid to show him.
Not anymore.

RUDE !
akaashi, atsumu, kageyama, kuroo, ushijima x reader (separately). wrote this while at work so probably a bit messy! not proofread at all.
Tumblr media
akaashi is nervous, like this whole week he’s been thinking about how he wants this day to go, and before showing up he buys a bouquet for your mom and a bottle for your dad, he also has a little keychain for you. so when he knocks he expects you to open, but it’s your dad who opens, looks at him and simply states you’re still getting ready before letting him inside, you go down to them sitting silently, your father looking directly at keiji, and you boyfriend looking anywhere else. you see, it’s not that he doesn’t like him, he just still feels weird about the fact his little girl has a boyfriend.
atsumu is nervous but won’t admit it, at least not to you —he would act all nonchalant and would just talk about it if you ask—, however osamu hasn’t stop listening to him asking how he should act, in the end he makes some shoyu ramen for atsumu to take your home in the condition he will stop talking to him about it. so when atsumu shows up with a casserole and a t-shirt that still has the tag you can’t help but laugh a little, making him more nervous and self-conscious. it ends well, and you mom congratulates the ramen.
kageyama somehow naturally managed to be liked by your dad, like yes, on the first moment they both were skeptical, tobio horridly worried your dad would kick him out or something, but after you leave them for a second to go put the table they’re suddenly the best of friends over some stupid movie saga. tobio hasn’t even actually watched it, he just knows because his grandpa liked it, and now he’s even ignoring you to keep the discussion up with your dad.
kuroo is confident your parents will like him, and he’s right, your mom does tell you he has a weird hairstyle and your dad bonds with him over volleyball, but your little brother, oh, he hates him, when kuroo greets him with a “hey buddy” your brother just shrugs and gets closer to you, even grunting when kuroo kisses your cheek, and when he finally says something to him it’s a “you seem like a bad boyfriend… what was your name again?” just because you let kuroo take the last dumpling. at the end of the night he finally turns to kuroo and says “ok, you can date y/n, but fix your hairstyle”, and kuroo somehow feels relieved.
ushijima seems unfazed, and you think he is until he asks you if you think your parents will like him, you reassure him, and then he asks about your siblings, and you don’t know what to say, because your sister will be alright, but your brother? and of course when he knocks your brother ir the one that opens, looks at him and instantly closes the door, them ushijima can hear a scream of “tooru!” and “ouch!” before you open the door. he spends the whole night giving him the stinky eye, but ushijima is usually too focused on you and your parents to find out. at the end of the night he puts his hand between your and ushijima’s mouth before closing the door once again, and ushijima hears the same scene inside before you open and give him a quick peck.

HAIKYUU! BOYFRIEND HEADCANNONS
Karasuno Edition
DAICHI
Classmates to lovers!
Secretly super nervous around you before you started dating.
The entire team knew he liked you before you did.
Hinata and Nishinoya would bordline harass you to come to practices and games.
Which resulted in Daichi yelling at them frequently.
Of course you came to the games though (you find him leading the time as really attractive too).
Ends up asking you out after you come to a match that they won (Suga pressured him).
He’s extremely chivalrous, insists on meeting your parents and opens every door for you.
Doesn’t make any moves on the first date because he doesn’t want to give you the wrong impression. (He really wanted to kiss you though).
You kiss him on the cheek after he drops you off.
Catches him completely by surprise.
You have your first kiss right before a game.
He was nervous, and you came to cheer him on.
You called him over to where you were sitting and kissed him.
“Good luck!” You called out as he was leaving, not missing how red his face was.
Tanaka and Noya were loosing their shit.
As a couple, you’re the team parents.
You always tired to help out with his caption duties, you knew it was stressful for him sometimes.
Leads to the team loving you.
Serious good cop/bad cop relationship.
You get Tanaka, Nishinoya and Hinata out of trouble whenever they do something stupid.
He loves you too much so he lets it slide (he can’t say no to you).
SUGAWARA
Love at first sight! (He fell first)
Brain turned to complete mush the first time he saw you.
Was sure he’d never see you again but he didn’t go up to you.
You ended up being Kageyama’s older sibling.
He still was too scared to make any moves.
You noticed him when Karasuno played Seijoh (season 1).
You approached him to tell him he played well, and told your brother he could learn a lot from him. (He blushed).
Kageyama is oblivious to his upperclassmen’s feelings. (Everyone else picked up on it the moment you started talking to him).
You thought him being on the bench but still making an effort to be the loudest person cheering on his team was really attractive.
You started picking up Kageyama from practices after school (you really just wanted to talk to Suga).
You thought you were being obvious about your feelings but the Kageyama facial expression™ is genetic.
His pining was becoming too much for the team to the point where Tanaka thought you were already dating.
Eventually gets to Kageyama.
He’s a little upset that he was the last person to figure it out (that Hinata beat him to it) but besides that he doesn’t care at all.
He thinks it’ll benefit his volleyball career, too, so it’s a win-win for him.
Flat out tells you Sugawara has feelings for you.
Part of you already knew, but you were elated.
Asked him to walk you home one day when there wasn’t practice.
“So, my brother tells me someone on your team had a little crush on me.” You loved seeing him get flustered.
He’s upset because he was in the middle of organizing the perfect way of confessing to you.
You end up at a cafe a little while later talking.
Tanaka and Noya were not so secretly spying on you both. (They took a picture of you guys with the flash on).
You thought it was funny.
Suga wanted to explode.
He walks you home, and you kiss him gently before walking into your house.
Kageyama was grouchy the whole night. (He’ll come around).
Kept PDA very light whenever you were around people.
However he’s super touchy in private.
Like he needs to be in contact with you to some degree at all times.
Always laying on you during movies and falling asleep half way through them.
Stopped having Suga over so much because whenever you did Kageyama would come into your room to talk about volleyball. (And he doesn’t knock)
ASAHI
Opposites attract!
You took interest in him first (he didn’t think someone as pretty as you wouldn’t be intimidated by him).
(You weren’t).
Started with you asking him for help in class.
You were pretty outgoing and spoke to everyone so he was surprised you went out of your way to talk to him.
He’s a complete mess around you.
You thought it was sweet.
You’re making every move if you want anything to happen (but you knew that).
Nearly died when you showed up to one of his games.
Nearly did again when you were gushing about how incredible he played.
Actually died when you asked if you could wear his jersey to the next game.
Died again when you did, the jersey being much too big for you. Seeing you in his clothes distracted him almost the entire time.
You end up telling him you like him one morning nonchalantly in the hallway when he was walking to class with you.
Wasn’t sure if he imagined it with how quick you said it.
“You do know I like you, right?”
“U-uh what?”
He’s nervous around you for months, barely initiating anything until he’s sure he won’t make you uncomfortable by accident.
Likes to lay on your chest while you braid his hair.
Still blushes from casual PDA. (He’s always pleasantly surprised you want to show off your relationship)
You pick fights with anyone who gossips about him being an intimidating guy.
“It’s not him you have to worry about, it’s me. So why don’t you say that to my face.”
He’s desperately trying to defuse the situation, but he loves how you defend him.
NISHINOYA
Childhood friends to lovers!
You’ve known him your whole life, but moved away for a few years in middle school.
You moved back in your second year of high school, reuniting with Noya.
He was different, but exactly the same.
You were adamant to not catch feelings, but you couldn’t help it.
The moment you were in his life again, he stopped obsessing over other girls. He didn’t realize it right away, but he knew he didn’t want you to think he didn’t prioritize you.
Forced you to come to every practice so he could walk you home.
Lines of friendship and something more kept getting blurred.
Randomly grabbing your hand when he’s excited.
Possessive, he gets sad if you don’t pay attention to him for a long time.
Genuinely fights off other guys.
He still doesn’t realize he likes you until Tanaka points it out.
Immediately confesses to you.
Dating him wasn’t much different than being his best friend, only now you were more affectionate.
Constantly napping together.
Brags about you to everyone.
Carries a photo book of you because he couldn’t decide on one picture for his wallet.
TANAKA
Matchmaker gone wrong!
Originally was attempting to set him up with Kiyoko (your best friend), but she wasn’t interested.
You two started getting closer even after you told him you didn’t think their plan was going to work.
Was starting to feel like he was only befriending you to get closer to Kiyoko, but he made a lot of effort to hang out with you.
Realized he was catching feelings for you when he would start to look for you in the crowd after each point he scored.
Did a 180 and went to Kiyoko for advice.
You were a little worried when they started getting closer, but your best friend insisted she had no romantic feelings for him.
Ends up confessing to you after a game. (Kiyoko’s idea).
He kinda screams it at you.
You thought it was cute, you kissed him to shut him up.
Parades you around to the team.
He’s protective, but when guys tell him he did a good job scoring you, he’ll just rant about how lucky he is.
He’s obsessed.
Like, genuinely obsessed with you. He proposed at your graduation. You told him ask you again in five years.
He does.
You say yes.
KAGEYAMA
Enemies to friends to lovers!
You both played volleyball in middle school, and you won “Player of the year” over him.
Rivalry started from there.
The girls team practiced in the same gym as the boys did so you were always trying to outdo each other.
When you’d play each other for practice matches you both would play exceptionally dirty.
Ended up at Karasuno because you got injured.
Became a manager for the boys team since the girls team wasn’t as serious and didn’t have a manager.
Had a small fight on both of your first days because he refused to work as a team.
You two could not get along so for the sake of keeping your job as a manager you just ignored him usually.
One game, a few members of the other team had made a few comments about you.
Conveniently, one of Kageyama’s serves in warmups nailed the guy in the face.
Was the first time he made you laugh.
Thought about it for a week.
Tried to make amends with you by showing he was sorry (he couldn’t say it).
Would ask you for tips on how to connect with his team as well as his form.
Admitted he thought you were a better player than him one night, you told him you most likely wouldn’t be able to play again.
Asked him to play for you, placing your hand on top of his.
He almost kissed you that night but he didn’t know how to and panicked.
You wanted him to.
Ended up tutoring him and Hinata, he started going to you for individual help.
Was worried you’d think he’s stupid.
You thought his focused face was adorable.
You were obviously in your feelings for him, but he was adamant that you wouldn’t like someone who struggles showing his emotions so much.
He didn’t think he’d be good enough for you and that you deserved better.
However, the idea of you with anyone else made him so unbearably mad he started putting effort into becoming what you need.
He struggled, but all you cared about was the effort.
Extremely flustered whenever you showed any kind of appreciation towards him.
Like he completely freezes up if you even hug him.
He warms up to physical affection quickly, he loved it from you, he just didn’t know how to return it.
Always falling asleep on top of you on bus rides.
He snores. Not loudly they’re more like sleeping sounds, but you tell him he snores.
Clingy in private.
Loves holding you but loves being held just as much. (He’ll never admit that, though).
YAMAGUCHI
Best friend’s sibling/secret relationship!
Yamaguchi had a crush on you the second he saw you for the first time when he was over at Tsukishima’s house.
He was sleeping over for the first time, and you were heading to the kitchen for a 1am snack while he was leaving the bathroom.
He knew Tsukishima had a sibling, but he had no idea what you looked like. He had no idea you were that beautiful.
You invited him to the kitchen with you for some food, he obliged because he wanted to talk to you.
You knew he was quiet so you did most of the talking, asking him questions.
“Your freckles are really cute, I wish I had freckles.”
No one had told him that before.
He remembered that for months.
Tsukishima knew something was up right away, but he didn’t say anything to Yamaguchi.
He was more worried about you, so he told you to “leave his friends alone”.
You didn’t
You saw Yamaguchi in school occasionally, always going out of your way to say hi (when Tsukishima wasn’t there).
After beating Shiratorizawa, you texted him congratulations.
You both kept texting from there, then calling.
You started asking him for help with homework, claiming your brother was unhelpful (you knew the work).
You started meeting up at the library, both of you mutually deciding not to tell Tsukishima.
After a few weeks of longing stares and lingering touches, you caved.
He was explaining a math problem to you, you were practically shoulder to shoulder, and he looked so adorable trying to dumb down the equation.
You weren’t thinking, leaning in and placing a gentle kiss to his lips.
You pulled back, apologizing, but Yamaguchi had a shy smile on his face.
“Can you do that again?”
Kept it a secret, only meeting at his house. (His mother understood)
Tsukishima found out after walking in on you both making out while Yamaguchi was sleeping over.
“Do you want ice cream?”
He did not care.
Only told you to stay away from his friends because he didn’t think you liked Yamaguchi.
He trusted you both to be respectful and if things did end to keep it civil.
His only wish was he did not want to hear a thing about you from Yamaguchi.
He loves to cuddle with you.
He’ll initiate a lot more physical affection when you’re by yourselves, but in public he gets too nervous.
Doesn’t want to make you uncomfortable ever.
Also not huge on PDA.
Loves giving you forehead kisses.
Akiteru saw Yamaguchi with a hickey before he knew you were dating and congratulated him.
Akiteru did not know you were dating for months.
That wasn’t intentionally, everyone just forgot to tell him.
Tsukishima gave a legendary best man speech at your wedding.
TSUKISHIMA
Enemies to lovers!
The first day you met Tsukishima, you thought he was annoying and needed to be put in his place.
So, you did.
Any insult he said (whether it was directed at you or not) was retorted by you in seconds.
He didn’t expect that from you (it intoxicated him).
Being friends with Yamaguchi, you were almost always around.
He called you a pest.
You called him a loser.
And so on.
LOTS of tension.
Both of you always glaring (staring) at each other to the point all your friends think you’re together in some shape, way or form.
Both of you could not get the other out of each other’s head.
Both of you think it’s because the other is just so annoying.
Until Tsukishima has a dream about kissing you.
Now that’s all he can think about.
He starts ignoring you because he’s mad at his own feelings and he’s starting to feel like he has no self control around you.
You notice it immediately, he no longer picked on you or teased you at all.
Instead of being relieved like you thought you should be, you’re rather sad.
About a week goes by, and eventually your mutual friends are sick of all the sulking you’re both doing.
Force you to talk to each other.
Ends up in a shouting match.
You call him a coward, and it strikes something in him.
Mid rant, he cuts you off by kissing you.
You kiss him back, finish your argument and go back to kissing him.
“Go out with me?” He mumbles against your lips.
“How chivalrous of you.”
The arguing doesn’t stop now that you’re together, it just leads to other things.
Surprisingly, Tsukishima is extremely emotionally mature when it comes to you.
He doesn’t want to loose you.
You’re his soft spot.
Like it’s so obvious and he almost wants everyone to know it. (He’d never admit it)
Not very possessive unless you’re uncomfortable.
No one was surprised when you got together.
Neither of you are huge on PDA.
Maximum affection you’ll show in public is hand holding.
He uses you as a human armrest occasionally.
“Hates” when you steal his clothes (he leaves them out for you.
You get along well with Akiteru, he loves you.
He’s out like a light if you play with his hair.
Holds you like a stuffed animal to sleep (he can’t sleep any other way).
Surprisingly soft.
Doesn’t say “I love you” for a while, but he does things to show it before he does.
HINATA
Sunshine x sunshine protector!
You grew up as Hinata’s #1 fan.
Helped him with his volleyball skills in middle school and so on.
You were always be his side and it was the same with him.
You’ll tease him of course, but anyone who underestimated him or was insulting him had to deal with you.
Tanaka and Noya call you “Hinata’s girlfriend” (they just think that and no one corrected them).
Started dating by accident.
Hanging out as friends was turning into something else.
Constant hand holding as well as hugs.
Were each other’s first kiss because he “wanted to know what it felt like”.
Kept kissing after that.
Eventually he just starts introducing you as his girlfriend.
“Shoyo, you just told them I’m your girlfriend.”
“Yeah? What’s wrong?”
“You never asked me to be your girlfriend.”
“Oh my god I forgot.”
Chaos everywhere you go.
He’s your best friend and your boyfriend.
He’s always getting you things.
Invites you to every game (you were going either way).

haikyuu boys meeting your family !
atsumu, kageyama, suna,
pre timeskip, female pronouns
atsumu is so scared. like he’s terrified. he’s convinced himself your parents won’t like him and they’re gonna force you to stop seeing him, but he won’t tell you that.
the plan was to go on your date in the city and then come home for dinner with your family; it can’t be that bad, right? wrong apparently. the whole journey home atsumu is pretty quiet, he’s trying to decide how to act while he fiddles with the wrapping of the bouquet that he insisted he buy for your mom. every time you ask if he’s okay, he just smiles at you and tells you he’s tired from walking around so much. once you guys get to your house atsumu’s gotten over the shaky nerves and he’s now onto the cocky, overconfident nerves, which is pretty close to his personality anyways. the whole time he’s complimenting your mom’s cooking, playing with your younger sibling and he was even humble about volleyball. you smile into your food when he says “ahh i’m not sure if i’m the best setter ‘round here” knowing full well that’s what he usually calls himself. he makes sure to thank your parents a lot.
after he goes home your parents tell you how nice he seems and how you did well. after you shut the door while he smiles and waves he lets out a huge breath, one he’s been holding all day. “they liked me,” he muttered to himself as he zips up his jacket and takes himself home.
kageyama is oddly relaxed. he declines hanging out with the team since he’s going to your house to properly meet your parents, which he says almost dismissively. a few minutes later he’s asking what the big deal is and how it’s “just meeting her parents?”; noya and tanaka and practically yelling in his face “dude. she’s like, totally in love with you if you get to meet her parents.”
he only realises how big of a deal it is when he notices how sweaty his palms are as he raises his hand to knock on your front door. he chews his lip while he waits for you and can suddenly only focus on your parents liking him. he’s snapped out of his thoughts when you open the door and pull him into a hug before you lead him into the lounge area to say hi. kageyama doesn’t really know how to talk about himself, you know that so you help him along by asking him questions like “don’t you have a game next week?” and prompting him to talk about the details. he’s also not very good at eye contact or even looking at people when he’s talking to them but at least he’s talking. while he’s helping you clean up he nervously asks if he did good so you take his hands and make sure to tell him just how well he did.
after he goes home your mom says “he’s cute” while you exclaim and punch her shoulder. he opens his phone and sees a bunch of texts on the team group chat asking how it went. he decides to tell his sister how it went before his friends.
suna is calm. he tells himself he’ll try not to be an asshole because who would want their daughter dating a sarcastic, snarky guy? he obviously loves you, but if your parents don’t like him then who is he to go against their wishes and keep seeing you? if they want him to leave you alone, he will.
he’s discreetly asking you stuff that will affect how he acts during the week before he’s scheduled to have dinner with you and your family. suna asking you which shirt you like better was new, so you were a little suspicious but you decided to ignore it. he did slip a couple times, he swore once and told a story with the details that parents don’t need to know left in, but he saved it well enough by saying he wasn’t part of it and it’s just something he heard from a classmate.
your mom seemed a liiitle apprehensive about suna but you did your best to tell her he was just nervous and he’s not a bad guy. he texted you later in the evening asking if he had fucked up, you told him he didn’t and how you heard your parents saying he seemed like he really cared about you. that lifted a little weight off his shoulder.

so high school ━━━ atsumu miya
34. no pressure ♡
Tumblr media
Sitting on the floor of the bathroom wasn't how you planned to finish your day. You wanted to come home with your boyfriend and your friends, have a nice dinner, and then celebrate your win. And yet, here you sit on the bathmat, knees hugged to your chest with a towel wrapped around you. After all, when you hide in the bathroom under the guise of taking a shower, you can't come out still dirty. And yet, after two hours, you can't seem to will yourself to move.
He loves you... But how can he know? It's not been long enough, he hardly knows you. Surely he's mistaken. There's so much yet he has to know about you, and you about him. All you know about his family is his brother. What about his parents? Any other siblings? Cousins? Pets? What if he's allergic? What if you can never get a cat? Oh god...
You jump a little at the knock on the door, loud enough so you can decipher it's not part of the song playing through the speaker. You stay in your spot, turning your head to the door and humming with the hope of being heard.
"Hey, everything okay?" Atsumu's voice comes through the wood, the concern evident. You can picture him leaning against the doorframe, eyebrows furrowed with his ear pressed against the door. "Angel?"
Your heart stutters in your chest with a pang of guilt, shifting your weight onto your knees and shuffling towards the door. You unlock it without speaking, settling back into position once again and waiting for Atsumu to enter.
When he does, he immediately closes the door and twists the lock. He spins around and faces you on the floor, sighing and sliding down the door until he's sitting. At first, he doesn't say anything, he just plays with his fingers in his lap with a frown.
You turn to look at him, resting your cheek on your knees. You watch him frantically glance between the floor, you and his fingers on a loop. It's like he's waiting for something. "Atsu..."
"Um, I get it. Don't worry," he whispers, almost being missed by you. He finally looks up at you, eyes glassed over and a wide smile. "Don't worry. I get it. Yer not there yet, and ya probably won't be. I-" His eyes dart away, focusing on the frosted window above the sink. "I'm really sorry, I just- I need ya to know that I really do love ya, and I'm happy for everything we got to do together." He looks back at you once more, quickly wiping at his cheeks before shifting to leave.
You sit upright, your jaw slack at his words. What? Did he just end it with you? You quickly reach out and grab his arm, your free hand adjusting the towel wrapped around you. You tug at him to get him to stop from leaving, heart shattering at the tears on his cheek.
"Oh, Atsu." You reach up and wipe his at tears with your thumbs, settling back down. "I admit, I freaked out when you said...that. I got spooked, because... How can you know you love me? We haven't been together that long, and just- What if you don't really love me and you just think you do, and then we- you decide you don't actually love me once morning and leave?"
Atsumu laughs, a genuine laugh. "Leave ya? Y/n, I mean it. I- This is so stupid. I remember ya being at the Olympics. I saw ya talking to Kageyama and Ushiwaka. I- I asked Omi if he knew who ya were, and Shoyo said that yer close to them. I wanted to come up to ya, but I was told that you were dating Ushiwaka. I've known who ya were, and I thought about ya all the time. I- I know I love ya, because no one I've ever dated has made me feel like you do. I could never leave ya, y/n. Never."
Your hand stays on his cheek, an unfamiliar warmth growing in your chest. You press your lips together in a firm line, trying to think of anything to express yourself to him. You can feel your heart beating in your ears, drowning out everything around you apart from him.
Atsumu hasn't moved, scared that if he does he will lose your touch forever. He savours the warmth, the safeness, the comfort, everything he feels in this moment just in case it's the last. His eyes are still red from the tears, his teeth digging into his bottom lip.
"Atsu, I... I don't know if I can say it yet, but, I'm getting there. I will get there," you promise, dropping your arms and pulling back. "I'm sorry. I should have come and spoken to you, but I just didn't know what to say. No one's... I don't know if you've noticed, but my friends aren't really affectionate like that."
Atsumu can't help the laugh that comes out when attempting to picture your friends be nice. “I think the nicest may be Kuroo, which is probably saying something.”
A smile tugs at your lips, your arms wrapping around his waist and pulling him in closer to you. “It does,” you giggle, burying your face in the crook of his neck.
Atsumu shifts the way he’s sat so you can pull you onto his lap, bringing you closer to him. “Don’t feel any pressure to say it back, but I love you. So much. Thanks for being in my life, darlin’.”

summary. after your best friend reveals he’s moving out of your shared flat, you’re presented with a tough choice: let one of the creeps who are begging you to let them move in with you, or find a cheaper flat in another area of town. a do-over couldn’t have come at a better time for you, but your only option for a place to stay is with someone your best friend knew from high school, and his two teammates.

MP100 Soap Opera AU - AKA "Mob o Psíquico"
Tumblr media
On the next friday, on 8 PM... Shigeo Kageyama, a meek and hardworking 18 year old, is forced to move to Seasoning City with his brother Ritsu after a tragic housefire kills their parents. They stay with their godfather Reigen, a good-hearted man, but with serious financial issues. Because he doesn't want Ritsu's studies to be interrupted, Shigeo decides to help with the bills by working as a butler for the influential Hanazawa family. He quickly becomes a target for his bosses' only son, Teruki, and their strange rivalry slowly turns into something unexpected.
With a main cast of:
Shigeo Kageyama - the protagonist of this soap opera, a timid young man who becomes a butler on the Hanazawa manor. He receives the mockery and the nickname "Mob" from the manor's old crew, yet gets to win their hearts with his kind personality. When Teruki starts to show him romantic interest, Shigeo is unsure if he should listen to his emotions or to his reason, as he knows he depends on this job and can't risk people purposely interpreting his intentions in the wrong way...
Ritsu Kageyama - his smart and talented younger brother, and his only family. Ritsu is doing his best to exceed academically and get a scholarship on a prestigious university. However, nobody suspects he is also sneaking out with his friend Shou to fight the Claw criminal syndicate, which he believes to be responsible for his parents' deaths...
Arataka Reigen - an esoteric itens seller and Shigeo and Ritsu's godfather. Reigen offers support and advice for the siblings while they're under his wing, despite being unprepared for this new role. What neither of them know, though, is that Reigen is dating older men to pay off their debts, including a member of the very organization Ritsu wants to destroy...
Teruki Hanazawa - the Hanazawas' only son and their future heir, an arrogant youth who rules the manor while his parents are overseas. He tries to annoy and boss Shigeo around like he does with his lackeys, but ends falling in love with him. His affection is forbidden, because his parents want him to marry Minori, the daughter of the powerful Asagiri family, as soon as they return...
Master Dimple - a priest turned capoeira instructor, he is the middle-aged friend of Shigeo and Reigen. Dimple is almost always on Shigeo and Ritsu's side and keeps giving them terrible ideas. When he is mistaken for another priest and confessed a shocking reveal to, Dimple doesn't know whether he tells Shigeo of what is to come, or if he keeps the promise of "being honest" he had made with him (not actually)...
-----
Have you ever thought your action shounen needed more ridiculously melodramatic intrigue? There is a solution! For some reason, I really wanted to make a overdramatic soap opera parody and this AU has been very fun to write. I hope I can share more of whatever this is with you guys soon!

You get caught by the sibling
Originally I was gonna write this for Lev but then I realised that I want to write this scenario for a fair amount of haikyuu boys so here we are (I decided to do characters who's siblings appear in the anime/manga excluding the miya twins and hoshiumi, sorry hoshiumi 😔)
I wanna write more for my boi hirugami, I just KNOW everyone's gonna be simping for him once the movies come out
CW: reader is gender neutral, I use the phrase "nii chan" cuz bro/brother sounds awkward, I use a name insert, some manga spoilers
Characters featured: Lev, Hinata, Kageyama, Tsukishima and Hirugami
Tumblr media Tumblr media
˚ ༘ ೀLev Haiba
You were staying over at your boyfriend's place for the first time, and his family had been nothing but welcoming of you. They're all really sweet and excitable people, just like Lev himself.
That made you relieved, since you were scared his parents would be super strict or something, although that would be a little strange considering Lev's carefree behaviour.
Right now, you were sitting in his room in awkward silence. His room was surprisingly clean, you noted while looking around. (Alisa later informed you that he spent 3 hours cleaning his room before you arrived.)
"Hey, ummm..." you turned to him. He was looking off into a corner, eyes avoiding you nervously and a cute pink blush on his cheeks. He never usually acts like this. He isn't one to get nervous when asking for physical affection. He just asks you to hug him or hold his hand straight up. Or he just does it without even asking.
So that got you curious. "Yes?"
"Can I kiss you?" he asked, eyes shifting to you. He looked excited, looking at you with wide eyes and a smile, waiting for your answer.
"HUH?!" that was the thing you expected to hear the least.
"Hey, don't be so loud! I don't want anyone to come here right now..." he said, a pretty pout on his face. You just stared at him, wide eyed.
You noticed his body slightly trembling, probably from trying to contain his excitement and nervousness.
"Let's... do it." you said, clenching his blanket in your hand nervously.
At your confirmation, he made a noise of excitement, smiling widely like an innocent boy whose mom let him get candy while grocery shopping.
"Okay. Sit still..!" he instructed, awkwardly grabbing your arms. You closed your eyes, too nervous to look at him lean in. The bed made a noise as he shifted closer, and you soon felt his breath against your face. You were sure he could hear your heart beating out of your chest.
"Levochka~ I came to- Oh my!"
Your eyes opened immediately, and you spun your head around to find a surprised Alisa at the door. You didn't see it, but Lev looked equally shocked.
"THIS ISN'T WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE!" Lev shouted nervously.
"Ah, I'll come back later~ Have fun!" Alisa smiled cheekily and closed the door. Your head slowly turned back to him, and he looked both embarrased and annoyed.
"Damn it, and I was so close..." he mumbled.
"...You can still do it, you know?" you said, looking down at his blanket. There was an awkward tension in the room.
"Not now that the mood is ruined!" he grabbed his head in frustration, blushing wildly.
"Later, then." you shrugged, blushing wildly yourself.
˚ ༘ ೀHinata Shoyo
You were helping Hinata with his summer break homework, solving it together in his room. He thanked you excessively when you agreed to come over, but you could never refuse an opportunity to come over to his house anyways.
His mom was really nice and even brought you two cookies. Natsu seemed excited to see you, as she always is. She even asked you to play with her, but Hinata's mom explained why you came over and she had the cutest pout on her face after.
After a while, you two were finally done with the homework, and he looked over to you, an idea flashing in his eyes before his cheeks turned pink. He was avoiding your gaze nervously. You tilted your head slightly, curious about his behaviour.
"So, ummm... since you've come over and, uhhh, helped me and everything... I-I wanted to thank you." Hinata was bright red at this point and seemed really nervous.
You hummed in question, waiting patiently for him to continue.
"W-With a kiss..." he mumbled quietly, probably too embarrased to say it louder, but you still heard him. You giggled a little at how cute he was.
"That's the best form of thank you I can possibly get." you couldn't contain your smile. You saw him tremble a little in excitement, and he scooted closer to you.
"O-Okay... I'll do it n-now..." he whispered, and you closed your eyes, knowing that he would get nervous if you kept looking at him.
You felt his lips press gently against yours, and you felt his hair brush against your forehead. You didn't kiss Hinata often yet, so every time it did happen it felt special, exciting.
"Nii-chan, let's go play with your...EW!" Natsu slid open the door to Hinata's room without warning, scrunching her little face up in disgust when she noticed what you two were doing.
"Nacchan! I-" Hinata scrambled away from you, stumbling over his words and not finishing the sentence.
"I'M TELLING MOM!" Natsu yelled, running away without closing the door. Hinata was too shocked to move, but soon swiftly got up, face scarlet red. "No, Nacchan, wait!" he ran after her.
You could hear Natsu tattling "MOM! NII-CHAN IS KISSING [NAME]!" downstairs with Hinata nervously denying it, attempting to do damage control. You could hear Hinata's mom chuckling at the scene, too.
To be fair, you were laughing right now as well. Whether it was from embarrasment or amusement, you're not sure.
˚ ༘ ೀKageyama Tobio
Kageyama randomly invited you over today, saying he was home alone. You knew his parents are often busy, but his sister was usually home with him, so this was quite the opportunity.
Knowing Kageyama, you were sure he didn't invite you over to do anything weird and simply wanted to spend time with you alone since things tend to get awkward when his family is around.
That being said, all you were doing was sitting in his room in silence. It didn't really feel uncomfortable, though. You have a feeling Kageyama simply enjoys being in your presence and doesn't feel the need to talk around you. Either that or he's just awkward.
Suddenly, you felt your hand being grabbed roughly, and you looked to your left to see Kageyama looking at you with strange determination. You haven't ever seen him make this kind of face, not even during a volleyball match.
"...Tobio?" you questioned, confused by his behaviour.
"Kiss me." he choked out, furrowing his brows.
"Uhhh, what?" you raised your eyebrows in disbelief. There's no way he just said what you think he said. Where is this even coming from?!
"I said, kiss me." Kageyama grit his teeth, face completely red now. You have a feeling he just doesn't know how to ask for a kiss properly, holding back your giggles as you let him do what he wants.
He grabbed your upper arms, and you let your eyes shut. You felt his breath on your face, lips so close to touching, when you suddenly heard a gasp.
"Tobio-chan, you little charmer~" Miwa leaned on the doorframe, smirking mischeviously. You covered your mouth with both of your hands, eyes wide as you moved away from Tobio.
"Why are you home?!" Kageyama yelled, mortified. He immediately let go of your arms.
"Work ended early. And there's no way we aren't talking about this later." Miwa seemed awfully amused. Kageyama huffed in annoyance at getting his opportunity to kiss you ruined.
"Oh, and by the way, you were doing it wrong. I'll teach you how to kiss the right way later." she said, closing the door behind her. There was complete silence in his room for a long time after that.
You turned to Kageyama, who was still red all over, gently taking his hand. "Tobio, I-"
"Don't. D-Don't say anything." he said quietly, his hand wriggling out of your gentle grip. Oh well, gazing at a flustered Kageyama is also a great activity.
But you can't help but worry about what Kageyama will do with Miwa's advice.
After his parents found out he has a partner, they incessantly kept asking him to meet you. In their own words, they wanted to "know what kind of person would fall in love with a kid like Kei". And you couldn't really blame them, knowing Tsukishima.
˚ ༘ ೀTsukishima Kei
They were pleasant to you, treating you well and even letting you stay over for dinner. You were a little surprised at how different they are from Tsukishima.
He took you to his room as soon as possible, wanting to avoid his mom questioning how you two ended up together, what he's like around you and such.
His room looked about the same as you expected, and he let you sit down on his bed, joining you.
"Your family is so nice! I wonder how they managed to get a grumpy boy like you mixed in there." you commented, smiling at him. He rolled his eyes, that being the only answer you got.
You didn't really know what else to say, so you just sat next to him in awkward silence. Then, you suddenly got an idea. A very very fun idea.
"Kei." you said, leaning forwards. He looked at you from the corner of his eye, waiting for you to continue. "Let's kiss." you said in an excited tone, and his lips pursed, face remaining blank.
"And why?" he asked, turning his head to you.
"Don't couples do that all the time?" you tilted your head, acting innocent. He sighed.
"...Fine." he acted like this was a pain to do, but you didn't miss the tiny sliver of a smile on his face. He was definitely excited right now. You leaned close and accidentally bumped your nose against his glasses.
"Be careful, those are- mmph..." you pressed your lips to his before he could finish his sentence, trying not to smile too hard into the kiss. This feels awesome!
His arm slowly wrapped around you, deepening the affection.
"Kei, mom says that- Ah!" you quickly broke the kiss to find Tsukishima's brother, Akiteru, standing at the door, frozen in shock.
"Well.... This is unexpected. I'm glad you two are happy together?" he said, awkward smile on his face. He slowly moved to close the door, not wanting to disrupt you further but just before he did it, Tsukishima stopped him.
"If you ever tell anyone about this, I will murder you." he said, furrowing his brows. The door opened again slightly, Akiteru wearing a worried smile on his face in the crack of the door.
"I won't, calm down. Just what do you think of me?" he assured him before shutting the door. As you sat there, processing what just happened, Tsukishima slowly brought his hands to his face, pushing his glasses up to his forehead. He groaned loudly into his hands.
"Are you okay?" you asked cautiously, blushing yourself.
"Do I look okay to you? Of course not." he pinched the bridge of his nose, face red.
You came over to your boyfriend's house for another study session this week. Exam season has been wild this year and you're eternally grateful for his help in your studies.
˚ ༘ ೀHirugami Sachiro
His family welcomed you upon your arrival as usual, the dog being especially happy to see you. The two of you are taking a break from studying just now, talking about various things in his room.
You suddenly felt the need to be close to him out of nowhere, wordlessly settling on his lap and hugging him. "Oh? Why are you hugging me?" he asked calmly.
"Do I need a reason?" you mumbled against him. "I guess not." he responded, gently placing an arm around you.
You looked up at him, not even trying to disguise the fact that you were staring at his lips. He raised an eyebrow, smiling slightly.
"Can I...?" you asked gently, not removing your gaze from his lips. He chuckled, asking "Can you what?"
He definitely knew what you were asking for, but just wanted to tease you a bit. You pouted, grumbling "I know you know what I mean." His smile became wider. "You're right, as always."
Before you could ask again, he gently pressed his lips against yours, and you hummed happily, squeezing him in your hold. His other hand gently moved to your face, holding it.
"Now what's this I see?" you were interrupted by Hirugami's older sister, standing at the door with an amused smile on her face. "You hate when my boyfriend is lovey dovey with me, but it's fine when you do it?"
Hirugami let out an annoyed sigh. "I hate your boyfriend because he's getting lovey dovey with you in front of me. I atleast do it in private."
"Jeez, okay then, you prude." his sister narrowed her eyes.
"I'm not a prude, I just prefer to not make others uncomfortable by making out with my partner in the living room." Hirugami still had a calm smile on his face, which made his sister even more annoyed.
"Whatever." his sister huffed, closing the door and walking off. When her footsteps could no longer be heard, he looked back at you with a slight frown on his face.
"Sorry about that. Where were we again?" he asked casually. It surprised you how calm he is about the whole thing, while you were turning red from the embarrasment of being caught.
"I... believe you were kissing me..." you mumbled.
"That's right." he said, cupping the side of your face.

Genius on Genius Crush
kageyama tobio x reader words; 780 synopsis; she's an inventor of sorts, kageyama likes to watch her slow descent into a crazed creation kick. he's also good at volleyball so there's that.
Raising an eyebrow, Kageyama pushed the notebook away from his face so that it was lying on his desk instead of being pressed up close to his face. This was a common occurrence for Kageyama. Y/n would try to show him her new invention of sorts, just to test the waters of possible reactions for the general public.
“It’s a diagram?” Kageyama offered a simple answer to their question. But that didn’t seem to please her seeing as she slumped into the back of their chair and let out a huff of agitation, her arms folded and bouncing her knee.
“Of course, it’s a diagram, but what is the diagram of?”
“How am I supposed to know? It looks like a cylinder with drawings on the outside.” Kageyama pushed the sketch aside, choosing to instead look at the drawings Sugawara gave him to study for hand signals to use in volleyball matches. His realm of knowledge and her realm of knowledge rarely overlapped. Yet, they both respected their mutual expertise.
“It's a lantern,” Y/n said, taking the drawing book back and shoving it into her bag. Standing up to leave the classroom. “I’ll need you to come over tonight so that I can test out if it works.”
If there was anything that Y/n managed to do right, it was being able to shake up the resolve of Kageyama. Even though they had been friends for a while, there is a large leap from just hanging out at a person’s house to the dramatics of actually going over to a person’s house with a purpose. That purpose is to see the model Y/n made.
Sitting on her bed, just kind of awkwardly looking around at the walls and little trinkets splayed out, Kageyama tried his best to even out his heartbeat. Racing at the thought of being in her room. All alone, with each other.
“You good? You look a little pale.” Y/n called out from where she was investigating in her closet. Ruffling objects and jackets around in search of the model of the lantern.
“Perfectly fine.” He choked out. Tugging at his collar so he would have more room to breathe.
“Ta-da!” Y/n hopped out of her closet to show the around two-foot-tall lantern she had made. “Okay, let me explain how it functions, and then we can go outside to see if it works!” She excitedly jumped over to Kageyama, handing him the lantern.
It was made of a fabric shell, with a small candle which was attached by wires at the opening in the bottom. It resembled a hot air balloon and just looking at it made Kageyama want to smile. Y/n had drawn a bunch of stick figures all around, some of him even. There was one that had him looking angry, with his eyebrows drawn thickly and sharp, but next to his angry stick figure was Y/n hugging him with a goofy smile drawn on.
Another drawing was of her holding up another miniature drawing, it was all very meta.
“Can I light it?” Kageyama poked Y/n in the leg. Which caused her to jolt upwards from how she was crouching down to inspect her project.
“Yes. Please, do the honors Kageyama.” Y/n tried to mimic an important military general before cracking out of the character to give him a smile and a nod of the head.
They went to the backyard, her parents were sipping some lemonade on porch chairs while her siblings were running around in circles throwing blades of grass at each other.
Placing the lantern down in the center of the field, Kageyama brought the lighter into the cylinder and lit the wick. At first, nothing happened, and she was rubbing her hands together, urging the science of air pressure to finally work.
Then, suddenly, it began to float. The yellow light began its ascent to the top of the universe.
Kageyama looked over to Y/n, she was smushing her face from how thrilled she was at the fact that the lantern worked. As it was going upwards into the sky, all the lantern became was a small orange flame, the stick figure drawings mere lines on the lantern.
“Look at how cool that is Kageyama!” Y/n shook Kageyama by shaking his shoulder and arm, she dropped his arm before giving him a big hug. “Thank you for believing in me.”
Kageyama stiffly wrapped an arm around her, before easing up and using his other hand to rest on the back of her head moving it upwards so that she could face him. “I always believe in you.”

If I was better at writing slice-of-life I'd turn this isnt a proper fanfiction but IDK how so-
instead enjoy this vey specific Daichi Headcanon/AU?
Basically instead of just coming from a regular big family he comes from a fostering family - I imagine his parents died when he was young and he ended up in the primarly care of his grandmother.
his grandmother fosters children, constantly. Like shes been doing this for decades. so while Daichi was a permenant fixture for her, he always had 2-4 foster siblings at any given time that he just got used to describing as "siblings" and as his grandmother got older he became more involved in helping out.
ANYWAY obv. the third years know about this situation and probably the second years but he doesnt exactly volunteer information about his personal life so the 1st years have no idea and one day in passing Hinata asks if he has any siblings he says that he has 4, and Hinata is like "woah cool big family" but then 3 months later one of the kids has been moved to permenant placement and Hinata offhandedly is like "how do you handle 4 siblings I can barely handle one" and Daichi is like "actually... i only have 3 now..." and of course he's super emotional about the kids that come and go and Hinata immediately panics because OH MY GOD DID ONE OF HIS SIBLINGS DIE???? HOLY SHIT WHY DIDNT ANYONE SAY ANYTHING-
OR in reverse Kageyama is like "Oh, didnt you say you had 2 sisters?" and Daichi all smiley is like "haha yeah, but now we have a new baby brother too :) he's so cute." and Kageyama, doing his darned best, says "Oh!!! I hadnt known your mother was expecting"
and, since Daichi is an idiot and tends to forget not everyone has the details of his personal life, completely deadpan glares at him like "Uhm. My mother is dead." and then just walks away, leaving Kageyama HORRIFIED.
I just really particularly like this version of the large-sawamura-family dynamic is makes me very happy and I wish I had a reason to use it

Anon:
Hello, I'd like to ask for haikyuu HCs with a S/O who has an older brother kinda like Gyutaro from kny. A brother who is considered to be ugly by society, but is really strong and tall (talking about 6'8 kind of tall). They are really overprotective of their little sibling. How would they react?? To have someone clearly much stronger and not so easily swayed?? They can't fight them and they can't try to manipulate them. Not to mention that they are always together and is always listening to her brother.
For this request can I have Hinata, Kenma, Akaashi, Goshiki, Yaku, Kageyama, and Hoshiumi or Ushijima for the last one.
Tw: Yandere themes, unhealthy relationship, obsession, possessive behavior, stalking, delusional behavior, stalking, manipulation, threats
Brother knows best
Shōyō Hinata
Tumblr media
☀️Shōyō is already someone who is of a smaller height in comparison to some of his fellow volleyball members but your brother just freaks him out, terrifies him. In all honestly, he doesn't even believe it when he first finds out that you two are siblings because you two are so vastly different in looks and personality. Needless to say though, he stays the fuck away from your older brother because one look is enough to let Hinata know that he isn't wanted. He doesn't want to stay away from you though so he often tries to sneak in on you when your brother isn't around you but unfortunately your older brother is never far away and all Hinata can do is trip over his own words, trying to justify why he is talking to you. He's pushed away from you, is most of the time left staring at you from a safe distance with a hurt look in his obsessed eyes. His delusional tendencies additionally make it very difficult for him to realize why your brother dislikes him so much, never questioning the fact that he spams you with messages begging to meet you without your brother tagging along. He's failed to make a good impression on your brother and Hinata prays that your parents will have more favour upon him.
Tobio Kageyama
Tumblr media
🌧️He isn't shaking in his boots like Hinata is when he has your brother towering over him but the colour still leaves his face as he's in visible disbelief to hear that you're the younger sibling of this guy. He's even more hurt when he finds out that you've asked your bigger brother for help because you got a bit scared of the way Tobio was pinning after you in his own obsessed ways. He wants to explain himself, the thought of you fearing and disliking him unbearable but your brother doesn't let you anywhere near you, protective of you. There are a couple of confrontations Tobio has had with your brother because even if he's still frightened, his paranoia and desperation outweights that at one point. It never escalated further because you stopped your brother from starting a fight. Kageyama starts getting visible agitated at one point as his own frustration and inability to talk to you leads to aggressive manners around others as his temper is essentially always ready to go off. The anger melts off though whenever he manages to see you as he daringly follows you even with your brother around and at one point his emotions are so shot that he starts crying, crying, right in front of you.
Morisuke Yaku
Tumblr media
🍀Yaku tends to have some delusional moments but he quickly sober up when he has his first encounter with your very scary older brother and is forced to stray away from you. He'd be lying if he says he isn't terrified but he still tries to talk to your brother and interact normal with him. Only that your sibling never lets that happen. Now, after the first time Yaku has been forced to retreat, he starts calming down from his lovesick height and starts considering how he can solve this issue without any huge conflict. He tries, he really tries, to talk it through with your brother. He attempts to reason with him that he sincerely loves you and even gets a bit confronting with some of his arguments as he points out that you should have the chance to also get to know other people. He isn't dumb, he notices that you two are unhealthily attached to each other. Needless to say, your brother can't be reasoned with and Yaku realizes that quickly. Nor do you consider Yaku's suggestions to make your own decision as you listen to your brother. At this rate Yaku is also concerned and tries to get in contact with your parents in hopes that they'll do something as he's unable to act due to your brother.
Kenma Kozume
Tumblr media
🐱Kenma isn't even risking it when he sees who your brother is and how he behaves around you. That doesn't mean that he stops obsessing as his eyes always linger on you but he's way too skittish to talk to you with your overprotective sibling always hovering around you. For now Kenma just decides to observe from the distance as he always trails behind you two within a safe distance, unusually cautious to not get caught because of the overprotective antics of your older brother. He attempts to make contact with you via mails and messages only to discover that you don't seem to be willing to meet with him without your brother around as Kenma asks you to do as he knows that your brother probably wouldn't let him close to you. It's by now very clear for him that you listen to your brother as you have a strong bond with him, an unhealthy but very strong bond. Kuroo can't help him much either as your brother reacts hostile when hearing that his friend tries to put in a good word for him. All failed attempts let Kenma's mood down as he's slightly depressed with the situation. He spends hours online, searching for solutions to this problem. He might act passive but he sure as hell won't give up.
Keiji Akaashi
Tumblr media
🍁Akaashi's case causes a bit of an uproar and that isn't even his fault. Bokuto didn't intend to do it either but fact is that he's very vocally sad for his friend when Akaashi tells him that your brother is against him getting closer to you and since Akaashi is more well-known in school, it quickly spikes up a lot of discussions. You as well as your older brother are all of a sudden on fire as the rumors quickly escalate. Akaashi has always been a bit wary around your older brother due to your sibling's overprotective behavior but has hesitated due to his own obsession. When he tried to get to know you better and his brother strongly rejected and you listened to him despite the fact that you liked Akaashi, he saw himself forced to act though. Only that your brother was uncooperative and refused to listen at all, only got mad when Akaashi pointed out how his own behavior around you isn't healthy and keeps you from freely developing. This was the situation that started everything and it doesn't help the fact that many don't like your brother in the first place, their words hurting you. Akaashi didn't want any of this, promises to help as good as he can. He might ask for something in return though.
Wakatoshi Ushijima
Tumblr media
🦅For maybe the first time he experiences what it feels like to be the one on the weaker side and the fact that it stops him from actively making you his own truly threatens to have his anger tip over. He refuses to back down though nor does he show any signs of fear or intimidation when he walks up to you and your brother, fully intending to talk with you only to be stopped every time by your brother. It's always very tense when both of them just stare at each other with scary expressions on their faces as bystanders fear that both of them might try to kill each other within the very next moment. Perhaps the only thing stopping those two from really getting violent is the fact that you're always around. Ushijima never learns either as he always comes back and always agitates your brother by doing so because the intimidation doesn't seem to work on the man obsessed with you. Because Ushijima is so immensely popular even outside his school does this become a topic quickly and this is something Wakatoshi is ready to abuse to his own advantage. He's very firm in his belief that once you two actually get the chance to get to know each other, you'll fall in love with him too.
Tsutomu Goshiki
Tumblr media
🌟His body betrays him when your brother towers over him even if Goshiki tries to not appear scared as he wants to make a good impression on your family, including your older sibling. The sweat still runs down his face and even if he initially refuses to leave when your brother tells him so, he hurriedly scrambles away as soon as your brother starts yelling. He's incredibly disappointed and soon devastated when he soon after this first encounter realizes that your brother doesn't allow him to go anywhere near you. He really tries to stay positive as he attempts to better his image even if he doesn't know what he did wrong in the first place. He tries to impress your brother in any ways he can, wants to show him that he merely desires to become your good, loving and loyal boyfriend yet nothing seems to work on him. Tsutomu gifts you also lots of cute gifts which you seem to like and he hopes that this might make your brother less hostile only for him to forbid Goshiki to send you more presents in an attempt to gain his and/or your favor. After this Goshiki is truly falling low as he even cries in private. Similar to Hinata, he'll probably try his luck with your parents.
Hoshiumi Korai
Tumblr media
🌊Hoshiumi is also on a smaller side which should make him more intimidated of your brother but he's a very courageous and maybe just too stubborn for his own good kind of person. Stubborn and delusional make for one exhausting person as he's sure to even give your own brother several headaches as this guy just straightup refuses to back down. Frankly spoken, he doesn't comprehend why your brother doesn't want him anywhere near you. He's very clingy and pestering, obsessed and someone who tends to get easily jealous but Hoshiumi himself remains oblivious to those things after all. Additionally he always insists on his delusional belief that if your brother would just allow him to spend time with you, you'd fall over time in love with him too. So why is your older brother so opposed and tries to stop your lovestory from happening? He's bold with his words as he speaks what he thinks which almost got him several troubles before with your brother if it wouldn't have been for you. I see the very huge risk that he'll get a lot of people involved mainly because he's openly complaining to everyone because he is unhappy and feels unfairly treated, even if he has no intentions to do so.

do you perhaps have some headcanons about mr. isagi? <3
OFC!! <3333
on top of having 2.0 vision (and well, metavision) his VVIQ score is a perfect 5
this helps him a lot with art and he's actually pretty good at it even though he's not as passionate about it as he is with football/soccer
he started drawing through doodling his favourite manga characters and he's able to recreate art styles almost perfectly
he's actually pretty careless when it comes to his schoolwork (esp for STEM) so sometimes he'll hand in incomplete work bc it looks like he's already filled in certain questions
like no. you doodled an eye instead of solving for "x"
he canonically hates science, but if he had to choose one branch as his favourite, it would be chemistry (not boring & derivative memorization like bio but not absolutely insane like physics)
something might contradict this in canon but i hc his handwriting is pretty shitty lmao
since so many sports anime characters look like him (nanase haruka, kageyama tobio, etc) i like to pretend they're all cousins and they meet up at family reunions to compete to see who's better at their respective sport
so yeah despite having no siblings he has a shit ton of cousins who he's really close to
he was conceived by accident 💀 his parents love and coddle him despite this
despite showing the exact opposite of the typical symptoms (great spacial awareness, scarily good empathy, etc) i still say he's got autism lmao. he just has a really unique type yk
his hobby is canonically walking, but i wanna expand on this a little bit
he somehow doesn't listen to music on his walks
(in fact, he doesn't listen to much music at all. that's why his fav song is from a commercial 💀)
furthermore, he rarely ever brings his phone out on walks at all. he likes being at one with his surroundings and he doesn't want his phone to distract him
which is understandable. unless we're talking about how he'll sometimes walk 2+ hours to go to a friends house AND HE DOESN'T HAVE IT?? NO GPS??? NO MAP NOTHING
he's just spent so much time walking around saitama he has a map of most of it installed in his mind
he really doesn't use his phone much at all. he has a few accounts in case he wants to check something out, but he doesn't post anything + barely follows anyone + even has a blank pfp on everything
he apparently received 0 valentine's chocolates in the previous year, but a few ppl from school had a crush on him
he's not popular or anything but some ppl over the years thought he was a genuinely sweet guy and quietly observed him from a distance
he's completely oblivious to this
his school friends all have way more romantic experience than him and they all tease him for this
he gets really frustrated about this and tries to convince himself he likes certain ppl in hopes of something sticking
when he genuinely likes someone he's oblivious to this too lmaoo
he's the type of guy to take dodgeball in PE wayyy too seriously
the first time he swore was when he was eight and got mad at his teammates for slacking off
he got in trouble for this and never swore in front of an adult ever again
(the lack of any physical adults in blue lock made him fall back on his foul mouth)
his fav class is PE in canon but i think i remember something about isagi hating baseball? that might have just been someone else's hc but yeah
he enjoys basketball and badminton, but he thinks volleyball is mid
the one time his school tried floor hockey he enjoyed it well enough
american football is just way too confusing for him
he had no backup plans in case football/soccer didn't work out, but he'd be fantastic in psychology and/or politics

Um. do you think about how mr & mrs kageyama are undoubtedly on the Good-er side of the Parents scale but also are probably viewed differently by ritsu and shigeo. like i think about how ritsu probably had to be the easy one (the one that doesn't need you to care about them and comfort them) since shigeo has probably come home beaten up and bloodied enough times for the both of them?? also i feel like they might've said something like "well shigeo you don't HAVE to do [thing that will make any parent happy/proud] right ritsu :)" at some point. like idkkk i feel like that is definitely part of why ritsu feels so pressured to be twice as good at whatever he does (to make up for whatever mob lacks) but also if anyone said that to me i'd kill myself on the spot because it puts Zero trust in mob's abilities? like i feel it doesn't give him a chance to try because well ritsu will do it anyways why do i need to :/ (but then body improvement club happened. W)
anyways i just thing his parents (unintentionally) put sooo much pressure on ritsu. like the bar for being Good is drastically different for ritsu and shigeo*. and pre-claw ritsu thought that half of this pressure would probably disappear if mob did what he was ""supposed"" to do as the Older Sibling which might be one of the many many reasons ritsu thought he hated him?
*marathon arc is the first instance that comes to mind cuz...idk..before it happens they're like Hm. we should go wait in the middway of the path for shigeo (who waited for ritsu at the finish line?🤨). and after it they're like hehe ritsu got 9th place and shigeo did his best :) (this just sounds. damn. the bar's that low/high?). and both of these are normal! considering how shigeo and ritsu are! but i also feel like they're only normal because that's what you'd expect from shigeo and ritsu respectively which kind of. fucked up my worldview.
okayyy this got long. Sowwy. 😆
the kageyama parents make me NUTS when I think about them too hard bc they're probably the best parents in the series and definitely the most normal, but with being normal comes very normal flaws and parenting fuck ups, like comparing their sons. like comparing kids against each other is a very normal and common thing for parents to do, but it fucking sucks, and it's only made worse with the specific baggage the brother have
they absolutely put so much pressure on ritsu, which is one of the components of him snapping in the cleanup arc. he's like,, the ideal that they compare shigeo too, like they're always like "shigeo, why don't you get better grades, like ritsu. shigeo, why don't you stop doing weird things, like ritsu." I feel like the best example of this is these two pages from the cleanup arc (chapter 23, if you're curious)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
literally every day I think about "ritsu is way smarter than I am. he doesn't do anything weird" [panel of ritsu looking so fucking haunted]
I'm going to put the rest of this under a read more because I had a Lot To Say
anyway, this sets up the expectations for the two of them. shigeo is the one who struggles at school, who messes up, whose psychic powers do weird things. ritsu is the star student, the perfect son, the Normal One. neither of these expectations are fair to them at all, especially since shigeo works really fucking hard when he sets his mind to something, and ritsu has to wear the mask of normalcy and perfection even if it doesn't feel right. it puts too much pressure on ritsu and sets mob up with the expectations of failure! goddammit!!
I don't necessarily blame the kageyama parents, I mean like I said, this is a very normal thing for parents to do, especially with kids so close in age. I've been compared to my stepsister, I've seen this happen to friends who are close in age to their siblings. it sucks ass, but it's a very normal flaw for a family to have. but also, even though the series really emphasizes that psychic powers are just a normal thing, I don't think the kageyama parents were equipped to deal with the specific issues their kids have bc of psychic powers. I can't help but wonder how much they know about that part of their sons' lives... the more I think about it, the more I think that ritsu definitely didn't tell them the truth about the first ???% incident, he definitely lied to protect his brother because I feel like they would treat shigeo differently if they knew he almost killed his brother and several teenagers at age ten. and it's unclear how much, if anything, they know about the major arcs of the show. do they know ritsu was kidnapped? do they know shigeo was trapped in a mental hellscape for six months? I'm pretty sure ritsu actively hid the events of the world domination arc from them. we see their mom watching the news report in the confession arc -- did she see her son on the screen?
idk, I just get the impression that the brothers don't really let their parents into that part of their lives, which means they still get treated normally but also means their parents don't really understand them. I think that's part of why reigen was so important to mob's development as a kid, because he gave him a person he could go to about things he couldn't talk about with his parents. it also means ritsu was especially isolated because he didn't have that kind of person, at least not until he and shou became friends
also what you said about ritsu being the "easy one", that fits directly into the way I think about both of the kageyama brothers being autistic. I think mob was much more visibly autistic, probably needed more support, and because ritsu didn't need the same support, everyone assumed ritsu must be allistic. I think he knew he was the "easy one" between the two of them and I think that got wrapped up in him masking a LOT to make things easier on his parents so they could focus on shigeo. this kid is so damn undiagnosed that I don't think he even realizes he might also be autistic until his teenage years at least
something something psychic powers as a metaphor for autism something something ritsu desperately trying to seem normal because he doesn't have powers, but also desperately wanting to get powers and stop having to act normal. this kid is so fucking sick of masking.

❝Kiyoko's Partner?!❞
Tumblr media
Summary: The team finds out about Kiyoko's Partner!
Pairings: Kiyoko Shimizu x GN reader <3
You are NOT nonchalant in this. you're hyper and energetic >_<
A/n: she's so cutie LOOK AT HER >_< <333
Tumblr media
"Kiyo Kiyo!"
You exclaim as you give her a hug. She smiles slightly giving you a hug back. "I thought you went home already?" She asked as you basically pressed both of your cheeks together. "I was but then I realized we haven't walked home together in a while and I haven't seen Tobio since he started volleyball!" You say with a grin on your face.
Since you were only two years apart, you were one of Tobio's older siblings. "Alright then. Just be careful around Tanaka and Nishinoya. You know how they are." She says with a faint smile. She never said it out loud but she loves when you're clingy. Her favorite is the hugs you give her. "Yay! Alright lets go Kiyo!" You exclaim taking her hand and walking to the gym with her.
Once you reached the door and opened it two second years appeared. It was like they had sensed Kiyoko or something. "Kiyoko!" They both exclaimed before noticing you. They also noticed the both of you holding hands. "Kiyoko who's this?!" They both asked in unison. You flinched. 'Freaky...' You thought with a grimace. She simply sighed and ignored them, tugging your hand letting you enter the gym.
Once you both were inside she clapped her hands gaining everyone's attention. "As the third years know this is Y/n Kageyama also known as my partner." She introduced you and you simply smiled and gave a wave. Your eyes scanned the team before noticing Tobio. You wasted no time rushing over and giving your little brother a noogie and a hug. "It's been ages Tobio!" You say playfully as he grows a comical tickmark on the side of his head.
"You see me at home, you idiot!" He says scolding you like he was the older one. You simply pouted. "Tobio you're so mean to me!" You whine before releasing him and going back to where Kiyoko stood. She simply gave a small giggle and smiled at your antics. You were always so silly with your antics, it always made her giggle and laugh.
Tanaka and Nishinoya both looked shocked before they made a weird face and a praying hand motion. You felt a shiver up your spine and looked away. 'Freaky...' You thought once more. 'If this relationship keeps Kiyoko smiling then we'll protect it with all we got!' The both of them thought in unison.
After practice was over Kiyoko was packing up as he waited for her on the bleachers swinging your legs back and forth like a child waiting for their parents to pick them up. Once she was done you hopped off the bleachers and stood with her. "I'll see you at home Tobio!" You said waving to your younger brother who just grumbled. You intertwined your hand with Kiyoko's as you walked out of the school.
After the both of you left the team had one common thought other than Tobio. 'Kiyoko's partner is so... different from her.' Which wasn't too far off. Despite that she loves you and you love her. She loves you because you see past her beauty and who she is. You love her because she doesn't label you as the dumb hyper kid. You're both perfect for each other. ♡

i lobe her she's so pookie >_<

Being Tobio Kageyama’s older sibling
list of links 🔗
Tumblr media
-so you get your hair dyed by your older sibling cause tobio is a pussy and needs his king presence on, he doesn’t want platinum blond
-you were an outcast in your first year and you made your mark through being a star soccer player
-when you met the rest of the karsuno team you were dropping of his lunch he forgot in his class, he would starve without you
-you learned how to spike for him to help him practice
-you and Oikawa are gossip buddies, Iwa and tobio hate it
-you sometimes just gaslight hinata a lot, like “yeah, tobio was really popular with popular girls” (in fact they scare the shit out of him)
-even though you look really nice your still a kageyama, there for you still pick on people (especially tobio and tsuki)
-your parents were almost always out of the picture so your big sister miwa was the one looking after you and tobio
-and consequently you often have a hard time trusting people and you coping mechanism is jokes
-once you met tendou you got along through shared trauma and being outcasts
-you almost always have a ankle monitor on

HQ headcannons bc i need a life!
Daichi:
- he has 4 siblings, this man gives such older brother vibes but at the same time older sister vibes so idrk-
- i’ve decided he has 2 older sisters, and 2 younger siblings (brother & sister)
- this man can’t go a day without out cussing. i’m fully convinced that he doesn’t cuss a lot, but when he does it’s only the word ‘fuck’ and it’s usually said under his breath and ever so hostile.
- when he went to college he would ask the underclassmen to watch over his younger sib’s when he wasn’t in town.
- Yachi would make stickers and keychains and stuff for Kiyoko & Tanaka’s gym and would mail them to Daichi every time a new design came out
Kageyama:
- his sister labels all of his sweatshirts with his name on the tag
- when tsukki found out he started to check the tags randomly and would make fun of him
- kags sister plays in a band for fun and they do gigs on the weekends at bars n stuff, so every once in a while the team goes to eat after a game and will listen to her play!
- hinata was trying to figure out why kags hated his hair, and yachi told him “it’s probably bc he’s allergic to oranges!” and now hinata won’t let him live it down.
- kageyama has a couple random things in his room that he bought purely bc they reminded him of his friends, no one knows this tho
- in his sisters phone his contact is “little yama” eng
-in his phone his sisters name is “big yama”eng, but everyone thought is was a typo for ‘big mama’ and daichi hit him on the head bc he thought he was calling his mother fat.
- he knows how to play a little guitar, but only bc his sister told him she wasn’t gonna play volleyball with him anymore and he still wanted to hang out with her.
Asahi:
- when he was younger he was obsessed with fashion and when he saw a pretty outfit or smth, he was asked people about it but once he hit age 10 people started getting scared and running away and that’s how he got his whole “i’m scary and ugly looking” complex
- he once lost a bet in second year to nishinoya and dyed a strand of his hair purple, it was an under layer so you couldn’t really see it u less he pointed it out.
- noya felt bad and dyed his bleached part purple too
- asahi has a younger and older sister, and knows how to do fancy braids and other hairstyles!
- he actually grew out his hair bc his sister wanted/is now a cosmetologist, and wanted to deal with a real persons hair but hers was to short😭
- he used his mom as a mannequin in college for summer projects, but when he became a famous designer he has his mom model his first few designs and his newest designs for a show.
- the videos of that show blew up on yt and tiktok bc everyone was saying “our favorite designer showing that even famous, you can still love your parents!” and on live someone read him that comment and he bursted out laughing and said “plenty of people love their parents even when famous, you just don’t see them as often”
- he was wheezing the entire time trying to explain himself
