i've said this in my priv twitter but fuck it im saying it here too. it's so funny how kido is pretty ignored in the fandom. like in canon she's pretty ignored due to their eye ability and now the fandom ignores them too despite his being pretty important within kagepro's story. like you have them being this glue that holds the dan together, you have them being able to become such a good role model to the rest of the dan despite losing every single role model in her life. and you also have him being the PRIME example of the snakes being physical representations of trauma with concealing eyes representing trauma repression. this is me rambling since im too ehhh to make like well written thoughts rn but i've had Bomi Brain™ for months and it's sad how much tsubomi kido is slept on in this fandom bc he is such a fucking well written and tragic character!!!! ugh!!!!

also yes i will keep posting. like I've been kageproing for 10 years (tho ive been posting only since 2018) and for example in between 2021-2022 i was pretty inactive in this blog because i was insane abt something else but even during that time... i wasn't completely gone?? i still posted art even if not as often, and even if i didnt talk about it IT WAS INDEED in my brain. like i just cohabitate with it. it's a part of me. sometimes i worry like am i gonna be 50 years old still thinking abt kagepro. dude maybe. who knows. be who you wanna be. harutaka for 1000000 years

the kozakura family representing generational trauma...... being a medusa in kagepro means that you're fated to live a life filled with pain and suffering and loneliness, but marry was determined to change that. marry taking control of the narrative and rewriting it to create a happy ending for her and her friends not only broke the cycle of timeloops, but broke the cycle of generational trauma for her family.

okay, clearing eyes rant i've had in my notes app for months that i'm finally posting to tumblr
okay. snake of clearing eyes. me ga saeru hebi. this fucker. word vomiting here since i've had these thoughts for So Long and i need to put them all somewhere.
clearing is obviously the villain of the story. he is the sole cause of everything bad happening in kagepro. he also represents trauma itself to the mekakushi dan and azami. i believe he is more supposed to be perceived as not a solid character like azami for example, but rather a force.
jin intentionally doesn't really give him a defined personality, same goes with the other snakes. they act upon their namesakes and clearing is no exception. his name, "clearing eyes", is supposed to mean he has more awareness, more sentience, than others. makes sense as he serves as azami's intelligence. due to this, he believes he is "above" the other snakes despite not really being too different from the others. he acts upon his namesake like them. he still serves azami just like them. he doesn't really stand out, which may be why he tries to gain autonomy.
clearing represents everything wrong with the dan and azami, he was born from azami's trauma, he was born from a lack of love, therefore he cannot quite understand it and deems it as a useless human emotion. he doesn't feel love towards azami, it's more devotion. he was created to serve azami as with the other snakes. azami technically is a mother to him as she "gave birth" to him, but he does not view her as such. he only views her as his master. his reason for his actions throughout the story is for the sole purpose of fulfilling the wish that azami made that brought him into existence. he is devoted to this, he is devoted to azami regardless of who else he's serving (ex. kenjiro or marry) and he holds no love for anyone.
clearing really isn't supposed to be viewed as a character like azami or the dan. jin shows this with how he writes clearing, even clearing himself is aware of this. he knows his place in the narrative, he acts exactly how you'd imagine a monster to act. how he *thinks* a monster should act, like having a disregard for the lives and emotions of humans or causing tragedy wherever he goes. his true role is to basically make azami remember her roots, bring her back to her lonely and sorrowful existence as a monster because it's how *he* thinks a monster should live. applying all these human characteristics to a character that intentionally lacks these things is where things tend to go wrong. when you do this with clearing, it takes away from his character, in my opinion. it literally goes against his character.

copy pasting this from twitter onto here:
still thinking about how azami's snakes are born from her trauma. you have clearing who literally serves as trauma itself for her and the mekadan in the story but then there are the purposes of the snakes. all of them all serve to defend azami in different ways.
all of the dan's abilities are not meant for offense bc they never were. they were formed from the trauma azami received from humans and her desire to protect herself from them because azami never wanted to hurt humans. she only did when she Had to protect herself/her family but even so it would always bring her to tears.
awakening is the only ability that can be used to harm others but that was never the intent of the snake. azami used it to heal/reconstuct herself. you can even see this in konoha who is awakening itself. konoha expresses discomfort when he has to use his powers to hurt others and always tries to serve as defense for the dan (ex. taking a bullet for them, using his body as a shield against the truck for hibiya and hiyori).
then there's concealing eyes. concealing makes the user less noticable to others and you can see how azami could use that to defend herself, but then there's the fact that concealing can be used to repress memories. kido uses this to repress the memories of killing her father in novel 7 bc she was so consumed by guilt she didn't even want to live anymore. a thing the brain can do when it receives serious trauma is to repress it and concealing is the literal representation of that, so there's like a double purpose for the snake.
the only snake of azami's that wasn't born from trauma is favoring, her "heart". it was born from her love for her family. shintaro noted in novel 8 that when ayano used favoring, he didnt feel that usual unsettling feeling he felt when the other members used their abilities, because favoring was born from love, so it has a calming feeling to it.

snakes being formed from azami's trauma and representing the effects of trauma and kido being the clearest example of that due to the first thing they ever learned to conceal was literally their own traumatic memories of killing their father..... oughhh 🚶🚶🚶🚶🚶
