"It's all part of the process, I guess," Layla let's her arms dangle lazily over Kaede's shoulders, tilting her head to the head. For a moment her eye's follow the lines that carve through the mans familiar features. "Look at us. We're adults, in a healthy adult relationship, balancing adult challenges." A year ago Layla would look at this relationship and think something had to go wrong at some point, the law of averages is indeed an assumption.

"Oh, Celeste knows." Layla offers a wide, sheepish grin showing teeth, "She's known for a while now." Hopefully, Kaede wasn't exhausting himself with effort trying to pretend in front Celeste, as if she was completely unaware. "She's super supportive, so is Theo. I think they get it."

"Well the good thing about that is everyone else periodically has a shit time, in their own way." Layla smiles, playing with a few stray pieces of Kaede's hair at the base of his neck. "If everyone else before us can learn to break habits, so can we." Where did this optimist Layla come from? How could she keep this bright and shiny version of herself?

"I'm glad." Layla offers a solid nod, grinning from ear to ear. "Because frankly, I'm not a big fan of getting down and dirty in the supply room." She had to throw a joke, albeit bad, in there. She kisses him back, before releasing herself from him and holding her hands up in a 'surrender' motion. "Alright, I gotta de-latch if we're going to leave this damn bar."

They had gone from coworkers, to friends, to lovers. while that seemed like it could have happened fast; the dynamics between them had gradually changed and molded into a way that made everything fit so naturally. It happened in a way that made Kaede feel as though it was always the right thing to do. It also made him hyper aware of their romantic situation. He didn’t it to seem like he was doing too much or want to push her away by being overwhelming. It was why he was always thinking about everything between them with consideration. he’d been through a lot the last few years but he wasn’t trying to make Layla replace anyone or fit in a mold that had been left by his late wife. He wanted Layla to always just be Layla. He wanted her to find the position that made her the most comfortable in their relationship.

“ even back then I liked those moments. It was really the only time I felt any sort of peace “ he admitted when it came to their early days of bonding. Or had felt so long ago but even when Kaede was at his worst those calm and quiet moments between them at the bar had been healing for him because it allowed Kaede to slow down and just sort of breathe. He could just talk to Layla and they got to know one another more. “ I’m gonna be honest, I don’t know what Celeste knows but Theo has been filled in on most things. “ he admitted. “ I wouldn’t want anyone to think there was a weird favoritism thing happening. But I am glad it’s out there and in the open. I have nothing to hide when it comes to us “

“ things hadn’t gone right in my life for a while. Sometimes it’s hard to break the habit” Kaede admitted again when it came to the way he approached everything. His previous thoughts of being hyper aware of everything seemed to be obvious to those around him. “ You also mean a lot to me. I don’t want to screw anything up between us. “

The words leaving his lips had felt so natural and it was because they were. It all had felt like the right moment and he wanted to make sure since the feelings had manifested that he’d reveal them when it felt the most correct. Now that it was out it was like a weight had been lifted. “ I think so. I’d love to go back home with you “ he repeated back before kissing her again. Kaede had never been one for PDA but his own confession and the kisses were proving he was coming a long way from where he’d once been @ponderosus

"Happy New Year." Comes up from behind with two flutes of champagne. She took a little creative liberty with the dress this year, as ball gowns weren't necessarily Layla's cup of tea. But they let her in regardless. Handing over the drink to Kaede, she leans in to give him a kiss on the cheek, happy to be out of the bar queue with enough time before the stroke of midnight.

She gestured with her head. "It's the one with the giant flower on the side. You can't miss it." It was only a few yards away. So she hadn't gotten far until she'd dropped one. Finally! I've finished drawing that emotion practice! I drew EVERY single character (minus the Monokubs, Monokuma, etc. and the UDG cast)... It's done... I actually feel kinda pleased with this.

Hell, I even did 3 extras!

"We were running in circles around each other for a while there." It took a while for Layla to understand the scope of when feelings developed on his end. She considered Kaede to be more... insular about feelings than she was. Sometimes she couldn't quite read him. But Layla had known that even if the couldn't see it at the time, the feelings were there — he was just equally as terrified. "We were already pretty close friends." Layla reasons with a shrug, "I don't think too much changed between us until we talked finally talked about it."

"Plus I didn't want to make assumptions." At the end of the day, assumption is the mother of all mistakes. Luckily that wasn't what ended up happening,. "You were already going through a lot, and I didn't want you to feel overwhelmed." she fidgets with the rings staked on her pinky finger. "Or make you feel like had to do things you weren't ready to do yet."

"God, yeah. I don't want to think about how long it would of taken without her intervening." Probably another very drunk Layla turning up at his door desperate for some attention to fill the pit of loneliness in her life at the time. "That's good. I'm always going to be grateful how much benefit of the doubt she gave me coming in after losing her mum."

"Oh yeah?" She wouldn't lie, it was very gratifying to hear him speak of her in that way. "I must be doing something right here, then."

“ did I?” Kaede asked as the news reached him that he seem to have had a pretty indecipherable face. He considered himself someone who is always thinking, but maybe that came off a little bit harder than he anticipated, because in his head, he felt like he was obvious when it came to his feelings, so the woman in front of him. “ I’m sorry if I ever made it seem confusing, cause I was pretty smitten the moment I realized I had feelings for you.”

It probably hadn’t helped that he was still appearing like he was in mourning. Because the truth was he had been, he always was going to have this aura around him as someone who had lost someone important. But he never wanted to close his heart to other people, especially since that was something Gabrielle didn’t want him to do. And hearing Layla’s words made Kaede realize that perhaps they were having the same thoughts back then. “ I understand that. If it had been any other kid, I think I would’ve had the same concern, but with her she seemed to know what was happening and I mean, let’s be honest. She’s the one who got us to admit our feelings. You’ve always felt like family even before we were more than friends, she always been a fan” he added, knowing if his daughter wasn’t so distracted by plants, she’d probably say that she loved Layla. “ I appreciate the care you put in when it came to her and to me. I don’t even know how to thank you with how much help you’ve been with her. Because I think she just needs someone that’s not a dad or a guy to talk to. “

Kaede smile softly at her gesture and quickly returns the kiss, feeling a little more bold after she initiated the motion. “ why would I ever want to get rid of the best person that’s happened in my life In a long time” @ponderosus
