in all honesty layla would not have attended this event if kaede hadn't asked her. usually it was just a great temptation to drink, and that was something she was trying to keep to a healthy minimum nowerdays. so when he asked, layla immediately accepted, however the question of a dress didn't hit her till much later, it was a garment she wasn't always seen in, apart from the odd little black dress. but layla wanted to spend more time with him outside of the bar so layla had to put preference of comfort side, so she needed to find something fancier tonight. luckily, the bartender actually found something she didn't seem to mind wearing, it also felt really nice to feel sexy for once in a while. her closet usually contained casual and work ware.

layla waits for him outside, adjusting the very gold outfit as the cool metal brushed against the back of her legs. luckily she doesn't have to wait very long, "hey." she grins towards the man, "i like you in a suit."

"I wouldn't worry about that." She replies, in earnest, despite the gentle bout of laughter falling from her lips. Layla losing interest was something completely inconceivable. Even when they two interacted as purely friends, she enjoyed learning pearls of wisdom about Kaede and little Layla's lives. Now, a fair bit more than friends, she got to learn about these things from the inside. "Closing the bar together is getting dangerous."

"Guilty as charged." The bartender nods, steadfastly, wholeheartedly accepting responsibility for whatever her presence did for the man's life. She still believes most of the work was done by Kaede himself, but she was happy to be at least a big part of the equation of getting him out of his shell. "I'm just happy to see you happy again."

"To be honest I didn't expect to see this side of you." Layla didn't come into this relationship with anything close to expectations on her end. There were too many complexities in each other's lives to set markers on what they needed to be. Things seemed to naturally fall into place, with time and great patience. "Well, I didn't expect to be where we are now." "That being said. I just wanna tell you that I love you, Kaede. You don't have to say it back, you don't have to be ready. I just wanted you to know."

Kaede was not a bold man. He was reserved and for many years had been introverted because he’d been writing alone or had been dealing with grief. Those things have a way of changing how you want to be around others. He didn’t hate that, but he was grateful Layla had this way of pulling him out of his shell and making him someone who he hadn’t been in a long time; playful. “ maybe but I still can’t go telling you everything. I don’t want you getting bored of me “ he teased again before agreeing with her sentiment. They were better behaved, aside from the time the bar patron was hitting on Layla and Kaede got protective. “ Bars closed. I don’t think anyone would mind if I got to kiss you by the pool table “ he mused.

“ I blame you for this. You’re out there making like to live my life again. Being around you makes me want to have fun again “ he noted before kissing her briefly once more. Were they still cleaning the bar? Or had the pair found their little corner of the world together to be able to themselves? It didn’t matter when she made him smile so much

“ then I intend to match that energy for as long as you let me “ Kaede noted as the bar fell into silence minus the music. It was the most at peace he’d been for a while and he couldn’t hide the smile tugging at his lips when it came to her. How she had changed so much of his life over the years. He hoped he was having the same sort of positive influence @ponderosus

Erica was a little taken aback by his insistence that he could help with the rest, a shrug falling from her shoulders. It wasn't like she was going to argue about it with him. She gestured with her head. "It's the one with the giant flower on the side. You can't miss it." It was only a few yards away. So she hadn't gotten far until she'd dropped one. Finally! I've finished drawing that emotion practice! I drew EVERY single character (minus the Monokubs, Monokuma, etc. and the UDG cast)... It's done... I actually feel kinda pleased with this.

Hell, I even did 3 extras!

part of the plans was to stay away from him. things had been getting slightly better between layla and kaede, but the last thing she wanted tonight was to bump into when drunk. intoxicated layla didn't come with the benefit of rational thinking, it was left at the bar sometime an hour ago after the third or fourth tequila shot. sober layla had enough forethought to know what speaking with him might reveal in an inebriated state, but it was very hard to avoid someone in a small space at a party. or at least, she could try, but then make it awkward the next day at work by refusing to speak with him. it was a double edged sword. "—sorry." she blurts out, after being forced by the weight of another party goer to bump into kaede's side.

"We were running in circles around each other for a while there." It took a while for Layla to understand the scope of when feelings developed on his end. She considered Kaede to be more... insular about feelings than she was. Sometimes she couldn't quite read him. But Layla had known that even if the couldn't see it at the time, the feelings were there — he was just equally as terrified. "We were already pretty close friends." Layla reasons with a shrug, "I don't think too much changed between us until we talked finally talked about it."

"Plus I didn't want to make assumptions." At the end of the day, assumption is the mother of all mistakes. Luckily that wasn't what ended up happening,. "You were already going through a lot, and I didn't want you to feel overwhelmed." she fidgets with the rings staked on her pinky finger. "Or make you feel like had to do things you weren't ready to do yet."

"God, yeah. I don't want to think about how long it would of taken without her intervening." Probably another very drunk Layla turning up at his door desperate for some attention to fill the pit of loneliness in her life at the time. "That's good. I'm always going to be grateful how much benefit of the doubt she gave me coming in after losing her mum."

"Oh yeah?" She wouldn't lie, it was very gratifying to hear him speak of her in that way. "I must be doing something right here, then."

“ did I?” Kaede asked as the news reached him that he seem to have had a pretty indecipherable face. He considered himself someone who is always thinking, but maybe that came off a little bit harder than he anticipated, because in his head, he felt like he was obvious when it came to his feelings, so the woman in front of him. “ I’m sorry if I ever made it seem confusing, cause I was pretty smitten the moment I realized I had feelings for you.”

It probably hadn’t helped that he was still appearing like he was in mourning. Because the truth was he had been, he always was going to have this aura around him as someone who had lost someone important. But he never wanted to close his heart to other people, especially since that was something Gabrielle didn’t want him to do. And hearing Layla’s words made Kaede realize that perhaps they were having the same thoughts back then. “ I understand that. If it had been any other kid, I think I would’ve had the same concern, but with her she seemed to know what was happening and I mean, let’s be honest. She’s the one who got us to admit our feelings. You’ve always felt like family even before we were more than friends, she always been a fan” he added, knowing if his daughter wasn’t so distracted by plants, she’d probably say that she loved Layla. “ I appreciate the care you put in when it came to her and to me. I don’t even know how to thank you with how much help you’ve been with her. Because I think she just needs someone that’s not a dad or a guy to talk to. “

Kaede smile softly at her gesture and quickly returns the kiss, feeling a little more bold after she initiated the motion. “ why would I ever want to get rid of the best person that’s happened in my life In a long time” @ponderosus
