Chapter 29: Independence
March 2009 20 minutes later.
“I got my license last year,” Satoru answers a question I didn’t ask. The glass of the car window is cold against my forehead, the moon barely a sliver in the dark sky. “Well, I didn’t actually get the license, I just figured out how to drive the car without crashing it.”
I’m hugging myself atop the leather seat. “How did you find me?”
“Oh that… well… Suguru called.”
My eyes close in agony. I try to remember his embrace, but it’s fuzzy in my mind. Tainted in betrayal and a lack of sleep. “Such lengths he went to to get rid of me.”
“You should be glad he did,” Satoru says. “Having you on his side would be a tipping point. With you like this, he could have probably convinced you to kill anyone or turn the country upside down overnight.”
“He must really hate me then to give that up.”
“I don’t think hate is what would make him give up that chance.”
I listen to the quiet hum of the car engine, watching the blur of trees and the city go by. “Would you have done it?” Satoru finally asks. “Killed people for him?”
“I don’t know.”
We don’t speak again until Satoru parks the car on an unfamiliar streetside. Tan apartment complexes scale several feet up into the air, dozens of wires crossing between them, clothes dangling from the balconies. A single lamp flickers overhead. He opens the trunk, pulls out a stack of plastic covered clothing items. “Here, hold these.”
I take them without objection, not bothering to ask where we are or why. In his own arms he appears to be carrying bags filled with groceries, cereals, eggs, rice wraps, and the like. He leads me into the nearby complex, up the stairs to the third floor, and knocks on a door marked 308. A girl, with a bright face, and hair loosely tied up to the crown of her head opens it. “Oh, Megumi, Gojo-san is here.” She helps him load the groceries onto the table, taking the cold items into the fridge.
“Who are you?” Behind me, I see a kid, no more than five or six, staring, arms folded.
“Megumi, this is Uematsu Kaede,” Satoru answers, placing the cereal atop the fridge, then onto the counter once he realizes they can’t reach. “A Jujutsu sorcerer—a very good one for that matter.”
“Is she a better Jujutsu than you, Gojo-san?” the girl asks.
“No, but she’s as close as they get.” He spots the plastics still in my arms, “Oh, that’s right.” He takes them, and lifts the plastic up to pairs of clothes in their size. “These are all clean now.”
“Bringing strangers into our house,” the boy grumbles from behind. In some ways he reminds me of Tomiji, doing his best to speak like an adult. Tomiji was never this callous, though, at least not at this age.
“You must go to Gojo-san’s old school then,” the little girl says. “You’re wearing the same uniform.”
The screaming and crying has turned my voice into a gravelly whisper, “I just graduated.”
“That’s so cool!” she grins. “Are you going to help train Megumi?”
“Megumi?”
“She’s not here for that. This is just a visit.” Satoru notices the ten o’clock reading on the microwave, “Hey, it’s late. Shouldn’t you be in bed?”
“We were about to until you got here,” the little boy, Megumi, says, already leaving for one of the two small bedrooms.
“Ignore him,” the girl tells me, leaving for the other room, “It was nice to meet you. Thank you for the things Gojo-san.”
“No problem,” he waves. “Good night.”
The doors close, and we’re left alone in the dimly lit kitchen, silent. “Have you eaten?”
It’s been over a day since my last meal, but I’m certain anything I could eat would only force its way back up. “I’m not hungry.”
“Suit yourself,” he takes a seat at the round dining table, looking up at me, waiting.
I sit down with him, “Who are they?”
“Fushiguro Toji’s kids.”
I hum in response. “How often are you here?”
“Once a week,” he thinks, “Sometimes less. I left a credit card with them in case I can’t get back in time.”
The longer I sit, the further I sink into the hard wooden surface of the chair. My arms wrap around my cold, empty chest, aching with a variety of sharp pain. “That’s good.” I look around to the rest of the small place, Satoru’s influence obvious from the remnants of a gaming console, a designer backpack for school, and other luxury items strewn about the floor. It was vaguely nice to think Satoru has had something like this to occupy himself, to keep away the all consuming despair I understand too well.
“Is this my fault?” he says suddenly. “You being like this, is it because of me?”
I take a deep, slow breath. “What if this is just how I am.”
“Eager to be a criminal?”
“Yes,” I say. “A lot can change in two years. Maybe it has nothing to do with you and this is what I want now.”
“Why?”
“Why what?”
“Why do you want to kill everyone?” he says. “And why join Suguru to do something you could have done whenever you wanted.”
“Not everything has to be done alone.”
“That’s what a weak person would tell themselves.”
I scoff, eyes traveling to anywhere except where he sits, boiling tears begin to brim at the surface. A heavy, searing lump forms in the center of my throat, and I remember well the hatred I felt when I tried to cut our tether. “You’re really such an asshole,” I say, “All I’ve ever done was try to be strong for you, pushing myself to achieve the impossible so that neither of us would have to be alone, and you don’t even care. Nothing ever good enough—” I stop, and take another slow breath. There’s no point in saying any of it now, in trying to make him pity me for asking the world of me and then leaving regardless.
“I really believed you could do it at first,” he says. “Be at my level.” I loathe the indifference with which he speaks, the casual way he treats my heartbreak. “Once I realized you couldn’t, I had to let go.” My fists clench until the knuckles turn white. “Besides, seeing me weeks, sometimes months apart isn’t right. At least this way you won’t have to wait around.”
The anger I want to feel is indescribable, the deep seeded rage that used to overcome me when I first lost Momo and all the others. But the feeling never quite arrives. I’m too tired to make Satoru understand all the ways he has ruined me. “Is that all?”
“Do you want me to say more?”
I get up from my seat, and collapse down into the worn down couch by the tv, ready to sleep for the first time in two days. “I don’t want anything from you.”

INFRUNAMI !

ONCE YOU SENT THAT MESSAGE, you started rushing to get in the shower. you don't take long showers which is great, so you'll be able to put your clothes on faster than you know it. while you're showering you start thinking of all the possible reasons as to why yeonjun suddenly wanted to take you out, other than him liking you of course. 'did our friends tell him to do it?' 'is he going to tell me he doesn't like me anymore' 'or is he just doing this because he felt nice?', you really still couldn't believe he liked you which is why you're thinking about all the negative reasons. you quickly wash away all those thoughts once you turn off the shower & take a step out. now you're walking back into your room to address your biggest concern: figuring out what you're gonna wear.
you've figured out your clothing, it's not much but it's something comfortable & something you don't really care to get dirty in. you text yeonjun telling him you're gonna have a small snack & that you're ready, he responds with hearting your message & saying that he's on his way from getting gas right now. turning off your phone you begin walking to your kitchen to grab whatever small snack you had in mind. midway of unwrapping your snack you hear a car honk outside, knowing that it’s yeonjun you rush to the door & quickly grab your coat, keys & wallet while stuffing the food in your mouth before walking out.
yeonjun quickly gets out the car to hug you & open the passenger door for you. once you get in the car you begin putting your seatbelt on, while checking your pockets to see if you forgot anything, ‘nope all good’ you think to yourself. yeonjun gets back into the driver’s seat, reaches behind his seat & pulls out a beautiful bouquet of your favorite flowers. you look in the rear view mirror to see what he’s pulled out & look over at him in awe.
he hands off the bouquet to you with a gentle smile, “hope you like them, i almost forgot what your favorite flowers were but i looked back on our mess-” is what he’s trying to say before he gets off with a big hug from you, “i love them & i love you, thank you so much yeonjun.” yeonjun smiles to himself before hugging you back, “love you too yn” you begin to pull yourself away from him & begin to look at the flowers once more before looking over at yeonjun once more with a sweet smile on your face. yeonjun smiles back before starting the car and driving off to your awaited destination.
-
you’ve made it to the art studio and you both walk in to take your seats. once you done that, the teacher of the studio begins to start putting out easels & handing out canvas. “this is gonna be so much fun, thank you again for taking me yeonjun,” you say while leaning your head on his shoulder. he looks down at you & smiles fondly, “don’t mention it, i know you love art & i wanted to try it out someday! maybe you can teach me a few things while we’re here” he says before the teacher turns on a slideshow of basic rules and the optional pieces that everyone can try & do today.
someone begins handing books with many other pieces to try and you look over to see yeonjun flipping through it, “which one do you want to try?” you say with pure curiosity in your voice. “maybe this one? it seems easy for someone like me & i’m one hundred percent sure you’ll definitely be able to do it as well” he says with a small chuckle, you laugh along with him and begin mixing some paints together & telling yeonjun which brushes would be best for the piece he creating.
-
it’s been quite over an hour & you both are on your third pieces, solely focusing on your own canvas’. you’ve given him some tips here and there but after a few minutes it seemed like he had everything down pact. jupiter by kaede is lowly playing in the background while everyone else is also working on their own pieces.
you look over at what yeonjun’s doing and it’s so beautiful “oh my,” his piece seems to be two people glistening in the moonlight almost as if they were the two brightest stars in the entire solar system. “that’s really beautiful yeonjun, oh my gosh” he looks over at you & flashes a gentle smile at you, “thank you yn, it’s a little hard but i think i’ve gotten the hang of it! i really like how yours is coming together as well,” you look over at yours, it’s a swarm of butterflies in a forest surrounded by flowers. “thank you yeonjun, but i think yours is a lot better than mine”, you say with a small smile before picking up your brush & going back to work, yeonjun grins at you & begins going back to work as well.
-
art time has officially come to an end & all of you and yeonjun’s work is drying. the teacher ordered food for everyone & asked what everyone wanted, so you and yeonjun agreed to ask for tteokbokki & ramen.
you both also decided that you would both take your food to go along with your artwork. you’re both leaving the studio & walking back to his car to eat & go back to home. yeonjun decided to play music again since it’s around a 15 minute ride back to your houses, he handed you his phone to play whatever music you’d like to play. you decided to play sza since her new album recently came out & you nor yeonjun have listened to it.
‘kill bill’ is playing, you & yeonjun are both jamming out to it. “this song is really good wow”, “i know right, she had us waiting for over 2 years like it was funny” you say with a slight frown. yeonjun chuckles at the expression on your face and faces back to the road as he begins to enter you guys’ neighborhood. nearing close to both of you’s houses he pauses the music & drives a little slower. you start to unbuckle your seatbelt as he pulls in front of your house.
you grab your food & the bouquet of flowers as you open the passenger door but yeonjun beats you to it, he opens the door with a gentle smile & holds out his hand for you to grab just in case. he begins to walk you to your front door and bids you a goodbye before hugging you & walking back to his car. “bye yeonjun!” you slightly yell before walking into your home, “bye bye yn! see you later” he says with a smile on his face.

@snakesouled // xxx
His sudden reappearance did startle her. She wanted to take a step back, to add a cautionary distance between them-- but his reiatsu prevented such an act. Instead she was left stunned. This unsettling snake of a man, for sure getting his humor out of toying with her.
But she’d swallow her fear. Those blues steeled into a guarded but cold glare. “My apologies... Captain,” She hissed between gritted teeth. “Allow me to fetch it to have it washed...” There was a disregard to his tea request. SoiFon obviously didn’t want him, so why should she entertain him?

((Felt like rewriting an old story..))
~{Y/N's POV}~
I sighed, tracing my finger through the crevice in the latex wall. How long until I would be released from this cage of mine? It was kind of unbearable, to be honest. To distract myself from the present, I stopped and tried to think back to how I even got into this mess...
~{Flashback}~
I climbed up to Kiibo's bed, exhausted. I had recently been asked by Miu to venture into his mouth so she could test something, but simply getting up here took about three-thirds of my stamina. Luckily for me, he was lying on his side, so getting into his mouth wouldn't be too much of an issue.
I climbed into the dark blue cave, wary of Kiibo's sharp, metallic incisors. Though I did stop to admire Miu's handiwork, it was brief and followed by thoughts of why she would ask me to do this. Though, those thoughts were very quickly interrupted when Kiibo rolled over onto their back, sending me tumbling down their glowing, baby blue tounge and to the back of their throat.
It was insufferable, stuck in his gullet. The walls were so tight around me, and it kind of hurt. Struggling only drove me deeper into this pickle, and I very soon realized there was no escape. Now I saw why Y/F didn't want to do this. And just as I thought that things couldn't get any worse...
They got a lot worse.
The walls tightened more, causing me to gasp and wince in pain. I saw that reassuring blue glow disappear from my sight, and all at once I figured out that Kiibo had swallowed me. This wasn't new for me, but it was still too sudden. At least I could find comfort in the familiar soft whirring emanating around me until my this was over.
~{Flashback end}~
I scowled to myself. It was all Miu's fault. If it weren't for her asking me to go into Kiibo's mouth, I wouldn't be trapped in his stomach right now. But oh so little did her involvement matter when I felt the space move and I heard a yawn reverberate through it, as if it were all around me.
Yes! Kiibo was finally waking up! Now was my chance! I ran up to the wall and started to hit it, hard. Hopefully I would get him to notice I was in his stomach with this!
~{Kiibo's POV}~
Oof...I was not expecting this today. And by this, I mean the sudden, horrible stomachache I had woken up to. However, I passed it off as a mere sensory glitch, trying to ignore the pain as I rushed to the cafeteria.
Kokichi was the first to greet me, naturally. "Morning, Kiiboy!" he said in his usual tone, all too chipper. "How'd ya sleep?" I always hated that nickname, because it felt like tounge-in-cheek mockery of my status as a robot.
"Just fine. Woke up bad, but eh." With that, I wrapped my arms around my stomach and sat down in the nearest empty seat, tuning in to the current conversation.
Kaede spoke first. "Alright, is this everyone?" she asked. Most everyone said yes, including me. All of us except for Shuichi. "Huh?" said Kaede, clearly confused. "I swear I saw Shuichi come in. Why didn't I hear him just now?"
"That's because it's n-not everyone," Shuichi spoke up, raising his hand. "Where's Y/N? Usually they'd have come on someone else's shoulder, or in their pocket, but that doesn't seem to be the case."
Oh fuck, he was right.
The table quickly erupted into an inferno of chaos. Everyone started blaming each other for not watching Y/N and letting them get lost. Kaede was quick to yell, "STOP!" Our voice of reason once again, she said, "You guys, arguing will get us nowhere! I suggest we split up and search for them around the campus."
What Kaede suggested would be difficult, considering how small Y/N was, but it was still the reasonable option, so we agreed. We all stood up and went our separate ways, all sharing the same end goal of finding the missing borrower.
~{Third-person POV}~
Nothing. Everyone had searched everywhere, and yet still they hadn't found hide nor hair of Y/N. They were all exhausted and quickly losing patience. "I can't believe nobody found anything..." Kaede groaned as she flopped onto the table, defeated.
Kokichi, meanwhile, seemed to be deep in thought. Where could Y/N have gone? His eyes shot wide open when he realized what could have happened. "Guys...?" he quietly muttered out. "What if Y/N was here the whole time? What if one of us... Ate them?"
A resounding shout of "WHAT!?" echoed through the room, to Kokichi's bewilderment at their shock. It certainly wouldn't be the first time Y/N had gotten eaten, after all.
Kiibo suddenly took in a sharp gasp, clutching his stomach in pain. That captured Kokichi's attention, so he walked over, leaning towards Kiibo's midsection. He delivered a small poke to Kiibo's tummy, and heard yelling from inside accompanied by them gasping in pain once again.
A small grin spread across his face, and he gestured to their stomach as he stood tall again. "Ladies and gentlemen, I think I know where Y/N is!" Everyone seemed perplexed by this at first, and why wouldn't they be? That is, until Shuichi piped up.
"What do you mea- oh. Oh. Are you saying Kiibo...swallowed Y/N?"
Kokichi grinned and said, "Ding-ding-ding! Correct as always, Saihara-chan!" That sent the room into mass panic, which stopped as quickly as it started by Kiibo's ear-piercing shriek of shock and fear. He wasn't taking the realization very well at all.
After several calls by the angrier students to control his volume, Kiibo backed away. "My apologies, my apologies!" he quickly stuttered out. "I just can't believe Y/N is in my stomach right now! I don't even remember ingesting them!"
As he rubbed his stomach trying to reassure Y/N, a small smirk started to form on Miu's face. Ever the eagle-eyed little boy, Kokichi noticed almost immediately. "Hey, cum dumpster," the plumnette deadpanned. "You have a lot of explaining to do."
Miu, under a sense of threat, collapsed under the weight and explained that she had installed an automatic swallowing function in Kiibo, and had sent Y/N to test it. Needless to say, the result of that was a lecture from Kiibo on consent.

The language of music (Mermaid!Kaede & Sphinx!Shuichi)
To most creatures, notes were an enigma. Hundreds of dots on paper. Some might even think that the musician had no idea what to do with the remaining ink so they just slapped something together. But not Kaede. She could read the dots as well as English. They weren't dots to her, no, they were words. Whole stories even.
She turned over the page. The next, much like the first, was more black than white. Symbols lined the 'words', telling her when to pause and when to start. Due to the entire room being filled with sweet music, rain, thunder, and winds appeared like whispers, murmurs at best. Even the usually squeaking door above the dozens of rows of seats was quiet as if in awe.
Shuichi, drenched to his bones, hair, and fur clinging to his skin, stepped into the big music hall. The news had said that the first storm of the year would be bad but he had not anticipated waterfalls coming from the sky. The dark sphinx stepped in the stadium-like room only to stand there, still as a statue, ears suddenly pricked. Kaede sat at her piano at the base, beneath the dozens of rows, focused on her notes, her long fin tapping, the sound similar to the ticking of a metronome. The music sang through the room, sometimes hard like rock then, in the next moment, soft as a mother's voice. Long, high notes followed by short, low notes. It all fitted together perfectly like a puzzle.
While Shuichi wasn't big on music -he listened to it, sure, but playing an instrument?-, even he could tell that Kaede possessed unrivaled talent on the piano. He knew since the first day at Hopes Peak where she played a song in the gym as a "welcome" to all new students, herself included. As to not disturb his friend, he made his way down the carpeted stairs in almost crouching movements. Before he could even reach the stage, the symphony found its end, a hushed whisper carried away by a silent wind and the pianist looked over: "Shuichi! Hey!" the siren waved, her pastel-pink ear-fins perking up under the light blond hair. With a fluttering stomach, Shuichi leaped down the last three steps, landing gracefully on his paws. "Why are you so wet? I thought you don't like water." Kaede asked, taking a sip from the teacup beside the stand holding her sheets.
"I do, I -ah- got caught in the rain." the sphinx gestured to the small windows that lined the ceiling of the room. The winds howled, causing a creaking sound. Rain pelted against the glass, hard, fast, like fists.
"Oh, I didn't even notice," Kaede said: "Did you get my notebook?" Hastily, Shuichi put down his bags, opened them, and took out a thick book with a green cover. Or at least he thought. The rain had soaked the fabric and with it all of the bags' contents, creating a dripping blob of green. "Dammit. I thought my bags were waterproof." he cursed.
"That's alright." the siren smiled but his well-trained eyes noticed her disappointment by the way her ear-frills drooped: "I can always make a copy." with his pride severely hurt, Shuichi put the wet collection of papers down. He should have taken the route through the main hall instead! That way would have been dry, even if it took longer.
"Don't worry about it, Shuichi." Kaede insisted upon seeing his pose slump: "I still have most of it in my head and I'm sure the rest will come back, once I start putting down notes."
"I know how long you worked on that. I'm sorry I ruined it." Shuichi sat down, wings angled down ever so slightly, and head hanging. She gave a short huff and crossed her arms, shortly before moving to the side and hitting the seat next to her with impressive determination: "Come here. I'm in the mood for a duet!"
"A-A duet?" Shuichi looked up.
"Yeah! You do know what I mean, right?"
"I do, it's just…" he lifted one front paw, flexing his claws, and trying to move the individual 'fingers'. By tomorrow he will have forgiven himself for the notebook but accidentally damaging her piano, even if it's just a small scratch?
"At least try it, Shuichi!" again, she hit the spot next to her: "Life is all about challenges, right?"
Maybe, Shuichi thought, but there is a reason why sphinxes aren't known for their musical talent.
In spite of his guts, he sat down next to her and let her guide his paws to the right places, trying not to think of how incredibly warm her hands were: "Since you don't have much experience -and can only press four keys-" she added quietly: "We can try a slow song. That way you're not overwhelmed and have time to correct your position." Shuchi opened his mouth to protest but Kaede had already opened her backpack and was now searching through its contents - most of that music sheets. "There we go!" she handed him a stack of papers. On the first page, over the scary amount of notes, "Für Elise" was written in thick, black letters. "Don't worry. It's not as bad as it looks." Kaede reassured him upon seeing his facial expression drop. She took the papers and put the sheets in front of them on the piano: "Okay, we start off with an E." she gestured towards a seemingly random key in front of Shuichi.
"O-Okay."
"And right after that, you need to press D."
"So…" Shuichi paused then gestured to the white key on the right, next to the E-key: "That one?"
"Close. That's the F-key. The D-key is this one," she pointed to the white key left of the E-key: "Now, see the little sign next to the second note?" she pointed at the second note on the sheet.
Shuichi leaned forward, eyes narrowed: "The little Tic-Tac-Toe-symbol?" beside him, Kaede gave a short laugh: "Yeah, that one. It's called a 'Sharp' which means you have to raise the pitch of that note by one semitone."
"Which means…?" Shuichi felt his cheeks burning. She made it sound as easy as 1+1 but he found it to be like learning a new language. Then again, that comparison might not be *that* farfetched.
"You have to press that key. The black one next to the E-key." Kaede instructed: "The black keys are the semitones."
"I see..." Shuichi said slowly: "And the third note?"
... The two didn't know how long they sat there. After Kaede told him what keys to press, she let him play the first line a couple of times. Behind him, Kaede gave him a sense of time as her tail worked once again as a metronome. At first, Shuichi jumped around between the keys, flinching each time he hit the wrong one, by accident or because he thought that one was right.
However, with every repeat, Shuichi felt himself getting better and more confident.
... "Great job!" Kaede grinned: "I knew you could do it!"
"Only thanks to you," Shuichi said: "I could have never done this without your help." he gave a quick sigh, almost a huff.
Kaede got up and stretched her arms towards the high ceiling, fingers intertwined with one another: "Man, I'm starving."
"Yeah, me too." Shuichi agreed and got up as well, stretching his legs out and dark-blue wings, afterward, with a satisfied sigh, before flapping them. They still weren't completely dry, still felt heavy.
The sphinx jumped down the stage and smiled sheepishly, cheeks warm: "Sorry, you ah got something on your face." Kaede rubbed the few stray water droplets off her face: "I'll get you back for that."
The two looked at each other. Had the stage lights always complemented Kaede's form so well?
"So, um, wanna go get something to eat?" Kaede asked.
"Huh? Oh, yeah! I'm starving!"
"Sushi sound good?"
"With calamari?"
"You got it!"
As they left the music hall, Shuichi noticed Kaede quickening her pace, cheeks matching the rich sunset beyond the windows.

Mediation
Prompt: Bloom Setting: Post Canon (Feudal Era) 1,459 Words
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dealing with Sesshoumaru was an exercise in frustration.
No matter how cheerful Kagome tried to be; no matter how bright her smiles or how much friendly chatter she aimed his way, her dubious rewards were a noncommittal “Hnn” and a thoroughly bored expression fixed on the daiyoukai’s dispassionate face.
Kagome supposed that was a step up from the death glares and the several attempts of murder he had made on her person in the early days of their acquaintance… But it was frustrating nonetheless.
Kagome had never failed to make friends when she had set her mind to it.
So now that she had set her mind on Sesshoumaru, he damn well had better cooperate!
There was no reason for any animosity now – their alliance had brought down Naraku after all.
And, well, since the whole thing with Inuyasha hadn’t quite gone according to plan…
Kagome drew in a fortifying breath, pushed down the lingering remnants of hurt as well as the stubborn what-ifs.
Then she exhaled; squared her shoulders as determination filled her.
When Sesshoumaru would next come to Edo, she would show him.
They would become friends, she would make sure of it!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The simmering of frustration in the air was getting tiring as well as tiresome. It buzzed in her ears like a horde of gnats. And it didn’t help one fleeting ounce that this frustration was coming simultaneously from the both of them.
Because those two felt so keenly that she could read them with rare clarity and minimal effort.
Those two felt so strongly that the emotions all but radiated off them.
And when the both of them were coiled tight with frustration at the very same time…
Well, she had gained some insight as to how a small leaf might feel when trapped between two great storms.
She’d had just about enough of them both.
Thankfully, they seemed to be nearly ready. Hovering close to the precipice.
Just needing that one little push so they would forgo sense and follow their hearts.
She smiled, bright and sweet.
Weren’t they lucky that she’d be there, with her little helping hand?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
As soon as Sesshoumaru set foot in the village the scent was there – alluring and beckoning and impossible to escape.
His hand balled into a fist, his claws scraping sharply against his palm. Even the scent of his own blood couldn’t drown out the sweetness permeating the air.
He wished he was not so affected. He knew not what to make of these inconvenient sensations that the scent, the presence, seemed to stir inside.
He had never felt this way before and he did not how to act on those feelings. Or if he wished to act on them.
Approaching females was simply not something Sesshoumaru had ever deigned to do – he had always been the disinterested party at whose feet the females saw fit to throw themselves.
But this particular female had made no overtures beyond her usual friendly gestures.
He was not sure if this was a cause for vexation or relief.
Irritated as he was by this state her mere scent reduced him into, he still couldn’t stay away.
He followed the alluring sweetness to its source.
And as the miko looked up, fearlessly met his eyes and greeted him with a smile, Sesshoumaru’s heart swelled.
“Welcome back,” the miko said. “I didn’t expect to see you again so soon.”
A part of Sesshoumaru wanted to preen at the delight colouring her voice.
Instead, he replied to her in his usual manner.
“Hnn.”
Her temper flashed and Sesshoumaru stifled a growl. Why would a simple greeting irk the miko?
“What brings you to Edo this time?” the miko inquired.
Sesshoumaru shrugged his shoulder. He hadn’t really come up with any excuses.
“Rin,” he replied, half-truthfully.
“Of course.” The miko corners of the miko’s lips quirked. “She’s at Kaede’s.”
Sesshoumaru inclined his head. He knew precisely were Rin was – starting to make her way from Kaede’s hut towards them at this very moment, in fact.
“Are you planning to stay long? Would you care for tea or refreshments?”
Sesshoumaru cared not at all for human food, but he’d come to understand the importance of the gesture and he would not turn down the opportunity to spend a little more time in the miko’s company.
“Tea would be acceptable,” he replied.
She smiled at him, such a bright pleased smile that for a fleeting second Sesshoumaru nearly returned the gesture.
And then Rin arrived.
“Lord Sesshoumaru!”
He met her earnest gaze, and once again marvelled at how quickly the little girl had become a young woman.
“Hello, Rin.”
“Well, I’ll leave you two to catch up,” the miko said and turned away.
Sesshoumaru’s lips curled.
“Oh, no, Lady Kagome, please stay,” Rin said, glancing from Sesshoumaru to the miko.
“I wouldn’t want to impose and be the third wheel.”
“You wouldn’t be,” Rin assured her. “Come on now, let’s all go in and sit down.”
The miko bit her lip and peered at Sesshoumaru.
“Very well,” Sesshoumaru decreed, walking past the women into the miko’s hut.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rin sat in Kagome’s hut, sipping carefully the tea Kagome had just poured her and tried her best to root herself.
Unease and determination radiated off of Kagome as she took her own seat and clasped her hands in her lap.
Lord Sesshoumaru meanwhile was a whole tangle of emotions as he discreetly stared at Kagome; but mostly he was pleased at the excuse Rin had offered him to spend more time in Kagome’s company.
Rin glanced from one to the other.
Something had really got to give.
However, it was Kagome who broke the silence.
“Did you hear about the flower-viewing festival?” she asked Lord Sesshoumaru.
“No,” he replied, his face remaining impassive even as curiosity piqued.
“The whole village will be gathering and there will be sweets,” Rin piped up. “It will be wonderful!”
“It will also be a great opportunity for you to wear the new kimono Sesshoumaru gave you when he last visited,” Kagome said, smiling.
“Oh, yes!” Rin clapped her hands. “I am really looking forward to it.”
“It’s a very beautiful kimono,” Kagome said. “I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the young men would have their heads turned.”
The teasing was warm and light as it wrapped around Rin’s shoulders, just like the deep affection where it stemmed from.
But then, nearly at the same time an icy irritation skittered down Rin’s spine.
“Rin is too young to have suitors,” Sesshoumaru ground out, his voice near a growl.
“Oh,” Kagome flushed. “I didn’t mean –”
“I am only one year younger than Lady Kagome was when she first met Inuyasha,” Rin cut in, getting both adults’ attention. “And she turned more than one head, did you not, Lady Kagome?”
Dark fury spiked sharply in the room. From the other side, Rin was buffeted by fretful embarrassment.
“Well…” Kagome said, her cheeks rosy, “I wouldn’t really say…”
Tendrils of jealousy streaked and snaked across the bristling fury looming over their heads.
“Yes, I remember that quite well,” Sesshoumaru intoned, his voice quiet and cold as ice.
Rin bit back a smirk. Now that was a reaction.
Kagome fidgeted and stared down at her cup.
Rin promptly ignored the jealous anger and ploughed ahead.
“You should dress pretty too, Lady Kagome! You would look so beautiful in blue. Would she not, Lord Sesshoumaru?”
The jealous anger dissipated, but the sudden aching stab of longing nearly stole Rin’s breath.
“The colour would be of no consequence,” Sesshoumaru said. “Kagome would look beautiful regardless.”
At last! Even Rin was surprised at the open admission.
And she was far from the only one because right on the heels of the bland statement came a simmering wave Rin had never, ever felt from Lord Sesshoumaru before and which she could only describe as panic.
Kagome, meanwhile, was staring at Sesshoumaru in wide-eyed, open-mouthed disbelief until she finally recovered enough to compose herself.
Gaze lowered, a faint blush decorating her cheeks, she bit her lip.
“Thank you,” Kagome said softly.
In the resulting storm of adulation, endearment and yearning emanating from Lord Sesshoumaru, Rin almost missed the reaction from Lady Kagome.
In the centre of the steady and unwavering friendship, which had remained unchanged from as long as Rin could remember, there now was a spark of something new, frail and tender.
Something, which Rin was sure time and Lord Sesshoumaru’s continued attentions would make bloom.
Unbidden, a bright smile rose to Rin’s lips.
“So, Lord Sesshoumaru, are you coming to the flower-viewing festival?”
Lord Sesshoumaru might have been answering Rin, but his eyes remained steady on Lady Kagome.
“I believe I shall.”

AiParade episode 29 rewrite
Episode 29- Twinkling Trio
We’re back at the Moonlight Office as WM and Magic Blood. Mizuki isn’t eating and the other girls stop to ask her why. Her eyes seem distant as the plate sits full of food. “Mizuki, is something wrong?” Mikuru asks. She places her hand on Mizuki’s who snaps as she smiles.”
“I know what’s been missing. A relic of forgotten time.” Mizuki walks out and says she won’t be back for a while. The other girls look shocked as Kaede shoves Mizuki’s food onto her plate. The opening plays (Twilight Etranger)
We cut to a large farm where the 4Star girls are doing community service as part of their idol work involves giving back. Anna is playing guitar to motivate them but a few students find it distracting. Dave(Wind Dance teacher) is also doing an unnecessary cheer as Hotaru helps the girls plant flowers. We see Laura kick a shovel’s head into the ground. Yume and Koharu bring her some dirt and overall everyone is a little dirty. Yuzu shows up in an excavator to everyone’s horror.
“Yuzu! That won’t be necessary.” Dave shouts. She continues to drive it until Lily uses a capture net to get her out. With the crisis averted we watch Mizuki arrive with her signature moon aura trailing behind her. A few of the girls are embarrassed to have her see them like this and hide away. Tsubasa scolds them and says an idol who cares too much about how she’s perceived will never make it. It’s revealed that she’s been tilling the ground for a while. Mizuki smiles and shakes Tsubasa’s hands.
“There is nothing more precious than an idol’s sweat.” She grabs a shovel herself and asks to meet the idol with the most stamina. The crash of tiles breaking is heard and we see Mahiru’s shovel cross hers. The two idols lock eyes and Anna picks a suitable pile of earth for them to move. A few students are stunned. “Mizuki’s going to work in the dirt?”
“What’s she doing here?”
“Is this really Aikatsu?”
The two girls get to work and within seconds the dirt is moved entirely. Mahiru turns to demand a second round but Mizuki stops her. “Come with me.” She says as she extends her hand. Mahiru says she will once the day’s work is done. The work continues in silence. As Mizuki walks off, she takes a look at her muddy hands. “I see, now. I know who’s next.”
Mizuki enters a car with Tsukikage(her manager) and asks her if they could visit another farm. Tsukikage mentions she already knows where they want to go and if so she sHould rest up first. At the Moonlight Office, we see Mizuki asleep in a plain bedroom with a poster of WM on the wall. Her dream involves a flashback to her and Mizuki performing Smiling Suncatcher. Then we see her and Ichigo performing Signalize. The sun is rising and she wakes up. A knock is heard at the door. Mizuki opens it to meet Mahiru I her school tracksuit. “You asked me to come here, didn’t you?”
“Yes,” Mizuki meets Mahiru’s gaze, “Our work is hardly done.”
They arrive in Hokkaido where Nono and Risa are putting on a small show for the locals. Risa is performing Move On Now in her PR. When she spots Mizuki, however, she freezes and fudges the choreography a little. The crowd doesn’t notice but Mizuki frowns as Mahiru exits the car. The show ends with Nono and Risa thanking the crowd for coming.
Mahiru introduces herself to the girls and says she liked the show. Nono nods with gratitude as Risa turns away from Mizuki. Nono and Risa take them to sit on an outside bench next to a lake. Nono speaks up “So what brings you two here?”
“We’d like to spend a day working on your farm.” Mizuki says.
“Wait a minute. I knew we’d be working but you never said we were staying here.” Mahiru interrupts. She glares at Mizuki who is wearing her casual blue dress.
“If we are to make this work, we simply must be prepared for the unexpected. We’d be happy to camp outside Nono.” Mizuki replies.
“I could never. Please come stay with me. Risa and I can both accommodate one of you.”
“Very well, I would prefer to stay with Risa.” Mizuki says. Mahiru slams her hands on the table and stands up.
“Don’t you think you’re going a little too far? Dragging all of us into this with you?”
Mizuki slides her phone toward Mahiru.
“If you would like to leave, then you can call Tsukikage at any time.” Mizuki asks for directions from Nono and they begin to walk off. Mahiru holds her hand to her chest and looks a little sad. She trails behind them at a distance.
At Risa’s house, Mizuki is sleeping on the bed as Risa sleeps on a mattress on the floor. She can’t sleep as she recalls her fumble on stage. The camera pans up to Mizuki and we see that she isn’t asleep either. “Risa, why are you on the mattress?” Risa frowns. “Earlier on stage. That was my song wasn’t it?”
“I’m sorry.”
“No. I saw you at the Starlight Queen Cup. If it’s my approval you want, then you already have it.”
“Mizuki…I’m still not sure of myself as an idol.” Risa stands up with her fists balled. “But that’s a journey I’ll have to take myself.” Mizuki smiles in acknowledgement and the two switch. Mizuki sleeps on the mattress happily.
IN Nono’s room, Mahiru and Nono are both laying on mattresses in their living room. They’re watching the Starlight Queen Cup with popcorn. Mahiru watches as Nono’s version of Lucky Train plays. “Why do you think she chose us Nono?”
“I’m not sure. To you it might not look it but Mizuki’s a pretty big name even here.”
“Well, regardless…I want to see what will happen.” The power goes out and Mahiru gasps knocking over the popcorn. With the TV off, the girls fall asleep.
The next morning, we see the girls giving it their all on the farm as they help out the locals. Mizuki’s phone sits uncharged in Nono’s house. At the end of the day, Risa’s parents invite them over to thank them. They all indulge in the meal as the moon rises. Tsukikage shows up to take them to the Moonlight office. “Girls, I’m glad we were able to work hard together. However, there is much more to be done.” Risa smiles as she nudges Nono and Mahiru forward. “The two of you will form a unit with me, won’t you?”
“Of course, Mizuki!” Nono says as she rubs her sore arms.
“Alright then,” Mahiru replies.
“Very well. Together we are Twinkle!” She takes their hands, “For each drop of sweat we shed twinkles like the stars. Now, we simply must prepare for a show soon.”
A week later, we spot the main characters sitting in an auditorium. They say their catchphrases as the spotlights turn on. The auditorium falls silent as all eyes turn to the stage. Mizuki sings the first line of Summer Coloured Butterfly as she descends on a crescent moon in the Exotic Lake Coord. Mahiru appears from the left in the Exotic Forest Coord singing the next line and Nono, in the Exotic Sunset Coord. They lights all turn on as the girls begin to dance. As the song continues, Raki starts to sketch away when suddenly, the trio performs Triple Sexy Fllash once the chorus starts. Yozora is near the front and tilts her head, “Isn’t that a little early?”
The crowd is going wild from seeing the appeal as Aine and Mio stand nervously. Mio turns to Aine as they recall their Diamond Friends cup. As the second verse kicks in.
“Aine! It’s just like then. The show is longer than usual.” Aine panics and holds Mio’s hand. “What’s going to happen?”
Yume and Akari are also stunned as they notice that Twinkle’s performance isn’t over yet. Then as the second chorus happens and the trio uses Star Sexy Charm. The second appeal gets the crowd even wilder with the cheers alone overshadowing everything but the performance. Ichigo gets a stern expression on her face. “I’ve done this before. She’s brought it back. Mizuki wants us all to get on this level.”
As the bridge goes on, we see Nono is sweating but she’s smiling at the rest. We get cuts to them training until the singing cuts back in. Triangle Twinkle Light! The third appeal has some parts of the crowd begin to sing along as they move along with the music. Mikuru’s hand is seen trembling as she wonders how Mizuki got the rest to learn three appeals in a week. Raki’s sketchbook is hanging limply in her hand as she’s unable to turn away. The show finally ends as the auditorium is flooded with cheer. In seats above the rest, the principals sit amazed by what happened. Even Elza seems set off as Twinkle stands on stage, seemingly fine after the exhausting performance. The episode ends with an end screen saying A New Age of Aikatsu

Birthday Hookup (HBD Rantaro!)
Hey, you guys! So, here I am with a birthday one-shot for Rantaro. My tired dumbass only remembered that his birthday was coming up just a few days ago, so I quickly wrote this. It’s completely different from what I wrote last year for his birthday (it’s even got some NSFW content lmao).
I hope you guys like it! :D
Title: Birthday Hookup
Summary: After being stood up on what must’ve been her fiftieth date in the past few months, Kaede finds herself at a bar a few blocks away from her apartment. That’s when she stumbles across a hot guy, and they hook up.
One-Shot Notes: They’re about 26 in this one-shot; sprinkled in some established SaiOu because why wouldn’t I XD
Warnings: Some NSFW; read at your own risk! (I haven’t written hetereo NSFW since god knows when, so just in case it’s not as good as all the SaiOu NSFW content that I write)
One-shot is under the cut!
Kaede huffed out a sigh, watching down at her phone for what might’ve been the one-hundredth time in the past two hours.
She had on a black mesh crop top with a wide strip of rainbow sequins wrapped around the middle, a pair of black denim short shorts, black fishnet leggings, and black heeled boots.
Pursing her glossy pink lips, she reached up to tuck a strand of blonde hair behind her ear, her painted nails glimmering in the light of the lamppost she stood by.
It’s been two hours and he still hasn’t shown up yet. Just where is this guy, she asked herself.
“Ugh, don’t tell me I got stood up again.” she tsked at the thought. “How ridiculous...” she grumbled.
She went into her contacts and dialed her friend’s number, bringing the phone to her ear.
“Yo! Wassup?”
“Miu, he never showed up!” Kaede complained.
“Wait, for real? Daisuke stood you up?”
“Yeah, he did! He was supposed to meet me at seven and now it’s five minutes past nine!”
“Oof.”
“Don’t “oof” me! You’re the one who set me up on this date, after all!”
“Okay, okay! Chillax, Bakamatsu!”
Kaede heard Keebo asking Miu something in the background before she sighed.
“Look, I’m sorry he stood you up. He just seemed like the kind of guy that wouldn’t stand you up.”
“Well, looks can be deceiving.”
Kaede recalled the picture of Daisuke that Miu showed her a few days ago. He was a handsome guy, with silky brown hair, soft green eyes, and a gentle smile. He looked like one of the more decent guys out of the forty-nine other guys she had tried to go on dates with before (they all stood her up, though). So, it was natural for her to assume that he wouldn’t do the same.
She guessed that’s what she got for putting false hope in him.
“Geez, this is your fiftieth guy in six months...why do they all keep standing you up like this?”
“Beats me. At this point, I think I should stop trying to meet up with guys for now. Like, I know my parents want me to find someone soon, but if all the guys I keep setting up dates with are all douches that stand me up, then I want no part of being in a relationship.” Kaede explained.
“You do you, I guess. So, what are you going to do now?”
“Well, it’d be a shame for me to go home after getting all dressed up like this, so I think I’ll hit a nearby bar and have some drinks before heading home.” she let out a light chuckle. “Hey, maybe if I’m lucky, I might hook up with a hot guy there.” she said.
“I’ll be rooting for ya! It’s about time you lost your damn virginity, anyway.”
Kaede blushed furiously.
“Miu...!” she whined, causing Miu to burst into raucous laughter.
“Well, I’ll let you go now. Keebo and I are going to spend some quality time together, if you know what I mean. Have fun trying to get laid, Piano Freak.”
Miu hung up soon after. Kaede sighed, pocketing her phone in her light pink Gucci shoulder bag.
Okay, time to drink the night away, she thought to herself.
She began to wander through the bustling streets until coming across The Turquoise Tiger, which was a very popular bar a few blocks away from her apartment complex.
“I’ve always walked by this place, but I’ve never actually gone in...” she trailed off.
Well, tonight might as well be the night I go in, she thought to herself.
She pulled the door open and stepped inside, the door closing behind her. Diamond chandeliers hung from the mosaic tile ceilings overhead. There were dark hardwood floors and the walls were painted a deep turquoise color. The bar was furnished with round mahogany tables and black leather couches where people sat, enjoying their drinks. The bar was to the back, rows upon rows of liquor lined up on shelves on either side of a glass mosaic picture of a tiger.
She made her way up to the bar, which wasn’t really crowded for a Thursday night. She seated herself on the plush, black velvet bar stool and waved the bartender over.
“Hi, could I get a peach fizz, please?” she asked.
“Yes, of course.” the bartender replied as he got started on her drink.
Kaede placed her purse on top of the counter and propped her elbows on it, pressing her cheeks against the palms of her hands. She found her mind wandering as she observed the tiger on the wall behind the bartender.
The bartender gave her her drink a couple of minutes later and she took a sip, letting the sweet taste of peach soothe her.
Ugh, why am I having such bad luck with finding a boyfriend? I haven’t had this problem since college, she thought to herself.
She briefly thought about her high school sweetheart before shaking her head.
No, let’s not think about him. I’m over him now, she told herself.
Time passed with her mulling over her thoughts and going through two peach fizz cocktails. As she ordered her third one, a voice spoke from behind.
“Hey, once you’re done with her drink, could you get me some whiskey on the rocks?”
The bartender nodded in response as Kaede turned to see who had spoken.
The person was a male around her age with slightly unruly green hair and matching colored eyes. His ears were lined with piercings and he also had one on his brow. He wore a deep navy blue v-neck shirt with a black letterman jacket over it, white skinny jeans, and black high tops.
He smiled at her.
“Hey, is it alright if I sit beside you?” he asked.
“Yeah, go ahead.” she replied as the bartender handed her her drink.
She took a sip from her drink as he sat down on the stool beside her. The bartender poured some whiskey into a glass with some ice before handing it to the male. He thanked the bartender before taking a sip.
Kaede rested her drink down and reached into her purse for her phone. She began to scroll through Twitter, looking at the tweets in her feed. She watched as a picture of Shuichi in Los Angeles with his boyfriend, Kokichi, popped up in a tweet that Kokichi tagged Shuichi in.
She smiled, tapping the like button.
He looks happier now. I’m glad, she thought to herself, thinking back on all of the struggles her friend went through so that he could get his happy ending with Kokichi.
As she exited out of Twitter and took another sip from her drink, she felt a pair of eyes on her. She looked, seeing that the male’s green eyes were trained on her, a curious look in them as he held his whiskey glass. Her heart skipped a beat.
“...Yes?” she said.
“So...do you come here often?” he asked.
Kaede blinked at him, wondering if she heard him correctly. A few minutes passed before she snickered.
“Oh my god...you’re kidding, right?” she laughed. “That’s the oldest pick-up line in the book.” she commented.
The male chuckled.
“I know. It’s just that I wanted to get your attention somehow.” he told her.
“Did you now?” she asked.
“Yeah. You see,” he pointed at one of the black leather chairs by the window, “I was sitting right over there when you walked in. As soon as I saw you, I told myself, ‘Wow, she’s cute. I need to find a way to talk to her.’” he said.
“I see. Well,” Kaede finished off her drink, “now you’ve gotten my attention.” she said.
She waved the bartender back over, ordered some fruity vodka shots, and redirected her attention to the male.
“To answer your question, this is my first time here, so I don’t come here often,” she explained.
“Is that so...I used to come here with a friend of mine, so I guess you could say I do come here often.” he said.
Kaede laughed.
“Okay, then.” she said.
He took another sip from his whiskey before resting the glass down, propping his elbow up on the counter and pressing his cheek against his hand.
“So, what’s the occasion? You’re all dressed up and stuff.” the male commented.
“Oh...well, I was supposed to go on a date, but I got stood up.” Kaede explained.
“Really?”
“Yeah. It’s my fiftieth date in the span of six months. I got stood up on all the other forty-nine dates, too. So, I’m here to drink the night away like any other woman who’s been stood up.”
The bartender placed a tray of ten colored shots before them and Kaede thanked him, picking up a red one and downing it.
“Wow. It’s a shame that they all stood you up. They clearly missed their chance, seeing as you’re really hot.” the male said.
Kaede felt her cheeks grow warm and she wondered if it was the alcohol or him calling her hot that made her cheeks flush like this. She was always commended for having a pretty high alcohol tolerance, so she figured that it must’ve been the latter.
“So...what about you? Why are you here?” she asked.
“Oh, today’s my birthday, so I’m celebrating with a drink.” the male replied.
“Really?” Kaede questioned as he finished his whiskey.
“Yeah. I would have gone drinking with that friend I mentioned before, but he left for Los Angeles with his boyfriend a few months ago.” he explained.
“I see...do you have anyone else you could celebrate with?” she asked.
“Nope. I’m all by myself.” his lips curled into a seductive smile that made Kaede’s skin tingle. “Unless you’d like to celebrate with me?” he inquired.
“Me?”
“Yeah. I’m pretty sure my night would be good if I spent it with a beautiful woman like yourself.”
“Well...” Kaede reached up to tuck some hair behind her ear. “I wouldn’t mind spending your birthday with you.” she said.
“Sweet.” he extended his hand out to her. “The name’s Rantaro, by the way.” he said.
“I’m Kaede.” she said, sliding her hand in his and shaking it.
Releasing hands, they both reached for a vodka shot.
“Cheers.” he said.
Kaede giggled.
“Cheers.” she chirped as they clinked shot glasses and downed them.
💚💖💚💖
After that, they went to a few more bars in the area, downing shots and making casual conversation. With each drink, Kaede felt herself loosening up to him and losing herself to the alcohol. Eventually, she suggested that they go to her place, since it was nearby.
Now, she found herself against the door in her apartment, arms looped around Rantaro’s neck as he kissed her roughly, his hands on her hips.
His hands slid down and he hoisted her up, her legs wrapping around his torso. He tugged on her bottom lip with his teeth, eliciting a moan from her. He took that chance to slip his tongue through her parted lips, running the tip of his tongue along her teeth.
She moaned against his lips, grabbing at his hair and tugging on it. Rantaro pulled away from the kiss, panting harshly as he stared into her eyes. Kaede’s eyes sparkled with lust as she spoke.
“Bedroom...let’s go to the bedroom...” she said, her voice thick with need.
“Mmm, yeah.” Rantaro replied.
She directed him to her bedroom and as soon as they were inside, he threw her onto the bed and climbed on top of her. He immediately attacked her neck, nipping and sucking at it. Kaede moaned as his hand glided up her side and dipped under her shirt, groping her breast through her bra.
“Ah...Rantaro...” she panted.
After marking a hickey on her neck, he pulled away and proceeded to shrug off his jacket. Letting it fall to the floor, he also reached down and pulled his shirt over his head, revealing his chiseled chest along with a six-pack. Kaede felt a familiar heat begin to pool down below at the sight.
Holy shit, he’s hot. His body is god-like, she thought to herself.
She suddenly began to feel warm in her clothes. She reached for her shirt and pulled it over her head, revealing her baby pink bra with white lace trim. She tossed it off to the side as Rantaro got to work unclasping it. Her breasts were freed soon after and he leaned in, peppering them with kisses.
Her back arched a little as his teeth dragged along her right nipple. His tongue slithered out and began to swirl around her nipple before he latched onto it, sucking roughly. A loud moan fell from Kaede’s lips as she reached down to fist her hand in Rantaro’s hair.
“Oh my god, rougher...!” she shouted.
Rantaro complied, rolling his eyes up to look at her. Kaede whimpered, feeling like her body was on fire with his intense gaze on her. His hand moved down and he undid the buttons on her shorts with deft hands, slowly pushing them down.
“Does this turn you on?” he asked, pulling away from her nipple with a popping sound.
Kaede whimpered as Rantaro brought his fingers in between her legs, massaging her with his index and middle finger.
“Rantaro...” she choked out.
“You are, aren’t you?” he commented as he licked his lips, the action coming off as seductive.
She bucked her hips against him as he rubbed circles over her.
“Alright, I’ll take these off for you.” he said as he reached for the band on her leggings.
Pulling them off along with her underwear, which matched her bra, he marveled at her naked body.
“Wow...you’re so beautiful...” he leaned back in and kissed her. “I’m going to enjoy this.” he commented.
“Well...you won’t be the only one enjoying this.” Kaede commented.
Rantaro chuckled.
“You’re right about that.”
💚💖💚💖
It was half past nine in the morning the next day when Kaede awoke, blinking the sleep out of her mauve colored eyes.
Ugh, my head hurts. I think I drank too much last night, she thought to herself.
She slowly sat up, the sheets falling off of her naked body. She looked down at herself, noting the dry cum all over her stomach and breasts.
“Why am I naked...?” she mumbled.
She looked to her right and saw an oddly familiar green-haired male laying in bed on his stomach beside her, his face buried in the pillow. Almost instantly, memories from last night flashed through her mind. One memory, in particular, was of him hovering over her, his eyes clouded over with lust and his skin glimmering with a sheen of sweat as he rammed into her over and over again.
Her cheeks flushed red at the memory.
Oh yeah...after I ran into him at The Turquoise Tiger, we went bar hopping before coming back to my place. Then, we had sex about three times before falling asleep, she thought to herself.
Her hands flew up to her reddened cheeks, her heart racing erratically. Then, she recalled what she told Miu last night.
“Hey, maybe if I’m lucky, I might hook up with a hot guy there.” she let out a small squeal.
“Oh my god, I really did hook up with a hot guy...and it was just like Miu said. I did wind up losing my virginity.” she spoke softly.
She looked back at Rantaro, watching as he turned onto his side so that he was facing her. The sheets slipped off his body a little, revealing his perfectly sculpted chest.
God, I could never get tired staring at his body, she thought to herself.
She reached out and brushed some hair out of his eyes as she remembered something that he told her while they were at The Turquoise Tiger.
“Oh, today’s my birthday, so I’m celebrating with a drink.” she let her fingers linger over his hair as she observed him.
“Oh yeah...his birthday was yesterday...” she trailed off.
She then remembered him telling her that he had nobody to celebrate it with, so he decided to drink the night away by himself in celebration. Her lips were pulled downward.
“That sounds kind of lonely...did he even have a birthday cake?” she wondered out loud.
She pulled her hand away and got out of bed, grabbing for the quilt that she had over her sheets and wrapping her body with it.
I should go and shower. After that, I’ll figure out what to do, she thought to herself.
💚💖💚💖
Rantaro stirred upon smelling food coming from the kitchen of the apartment he found himself in.
“Somebody’s making food...?” he mumbled, sitting up in bed and looking at his surroundings.
A large, floor to ceiling window was to his left, which had a good view of the city. Across from the bed was a large closet and a door that led to the bathroom was beside it. To his right was a nightstand along with a desk and chair against the wall next to the door. The walls were painted a mauve color and many pictures frames were hung up on the walls along with a large dry erase board calendar, which hung up on the wall above the desk. The floors were a dark hardwood that led out into the hallway.
“Okay...so, I’m not at my place.” he said.
He sat up in bed and began to recall his memories from the night before one by one.
Oh yeah...I was at The Turquoise Tiger last night and I met Kaede there. Then, we went bar hopping and came back to her apartment, where we went at it three times before falling asleep, he thought to himself.
He swung his legs over the side of the bed as he noticed his clothes neatly folded on the nightstand along with a note written on a pastel pink sticky note. He picked up the note and eyed it curiously.
I washed your clothes for you. You can use my bathroom and wash up. Once you’re done, come into the kitchen. I’m making breakfast.
-Kaede
He smiled softly as he set the note down on the nightstand and picked up his clothes.
“I wonder how long it’s been since I spent the morning with someone else...” he trailed off.
He decided not to dwell on that thought as he headed into the bathroom and closed the door behind him.
💚💖💚💖
Kaede hummed a tune to herself as she flipped pancakes over on the stove, sliding them onto a paper towel atop a plate once she was done.
She changed over into a white cropped hoodie that said ‘idgaf’ in black cursive font with black leggings and neon pink socks on her feet. Her hair was pulled into a low ponytail with a pink velvet scrunchie, some loose strands of hair framing her face.
As she finished making the last pancake and turned off the stove, she heard footsteps coming from the hallway. She turned, smiling upon seeing Rantaro emerge from the hallway.
“Good morning, Rantaro!” she chirped.
Rantaro smiled.
“Good morning.” he replied.
She nodded over to the kitchen table by the window.
“Go ahead and take a seat. I’m going to plate everything now.” she opened one of the cabinets and took out two plates. “What would you like to drink?” she asked.
“Anything is fine.” he replied as he took a seat.
Kaede piled some pancakes onto the plates, drizzled some syrup over it, and added some whip cream on top of it. She then took out two cups and poured coffee in them, adding sugar and some cream in hers before heading over to the table.
“How do you like your coffee?” she asked as she set her mug down on the table.
“Black. No sugar, no cream.” Rantaro told her.
“No sugar or cream?”
“Nope.”
“Alright, then.” she handed him his mug. “I’ll get our food.” she said.
She went back into the kitchen and dug through one of the drawers before pulling out a candle that said Happy Birthday and sticking it on top of the whip cream on Rantaro’s stack of pancakes. After lighting the candle with a match, she headed back over to the table and set the plates down. Rantaro stared at his plate with a bewildered look on his face.
“What’s with the candle?” he asked.
“Oh, that...” Kaede sat down across from him. “You told me last night that it was your birthday and you had nobody to celebrate it with, so you asked me to celebrate with you. This morning, I woke up wondering if you had an appropriate birthday celebration, so even though this obviously isn’t a cake, I figured I’d make you something and have you blow out a candle.” she explained.
“Is that so...” Rantaro smiled. “Thank you. That means a lot to me.” he said.
“Of course! And happy late birthday, Rantaro.” she said.
Rantaro chuckled as he blew the candle out. Then, they began to eat. As they ate, they talked a little bit about various subjects, including what plans they had for the day.
Sitting down and having breakfast with someone else was nice, Kaede realized. Since she always had to rush to get to work, she never got to have a proper meal in the morning, opting for a protein bar or just a cup of coffee with sugar and cream. Not only that, she lived alone, so she rarely had people over to eat with.
She finished her coffee as she watched Rantaro cut into his pancakes and put a forkful of it into his mouth.
She imagined herself with him, the two of them living in her apartment together. They would get up together, have breakfast together, and just be in each other’s company. They’d go to work, then come back to the apartment and spend some time together either snuggling up and watching movies or retreat to the bedroom and have sex with each other before falling asleep in each other’s arms.
She smiled at the thought. She could get used to that.
Once they were done eating breakfast, Kaede took their dishes and began to wash them. As she put the coffee mugs in the drainer on the counter, Rantaro came up behind her, wrapping an arm around her waist.
“So, Kaede...” he began, his voice close to her ear.
Her cheeks flushed red as his chest was pressed against her back, making her heart race.
He’s so close, she thought to herself.
“Y-Yeah?” she stuttered out in response.
“Seeing as we slept together and even had breakfast together, I was wondering what that makes us. Is it going to be just a one night stand?” he asked.
“Well...” Kaede trailed off.
What even are we? Like, we slept together and had breakfast...but we’re strangers to each other, she thought to herself.
She bit her lip.
Then...if all this is is a one night stand, then why do I find myself wanting to meet with him again? Why do I wish that this could happen more often? Maybe it was love at first sight, she wondered.
Rantaro’s breath against the shell of her ear made her heart nearly leap out of its chest. While she found it crazy that it was love at first sight, she didn’t exactly deny it, either.
She did imagine the two of them in a relationship not too long ago, after all.
She let out a shaky breath.
“Well...at first, I figured that this would be a one night stand and that we’d go our separate ways after this.” she said.
“At first?” Rantaro questioned.
Kaede nodded.
“But...I don’t mind if we keep meeting up like this. Well, I guess what I’m meaning to say is that I’d like to get to know you better.” she said.
“Do you really?”
“I do. I really would like to get to know you more.”
“Well, I’m glad the feeling is mutual.”
Rantaro tugged lightly on her ear, drawing a sharp gasp from her.
“Because to be honest, I was hoping that this won’t be the last time we meet.” he said.
Kaede turned, staring up at him as he brought his other arm around her waist.
“I...was thinking the same thing, too.” she said.
Rantaro chuckled.
“Wow, we seem to think alike.” he commented.
“Maybe we do.” she looped her arms around his neck, a smile crossing her lips. “Hm, perhaps you can tell what it is I want to do now?” she asked.
“I think I have a pretty good guess as to what that is.” he leaned in closer. “And I’d be happy to oblige.” he said before closing the distance between them and capturing her lips in a kiss.

Ratswap AU-Syobai's Story
Alrighty. so the first thing to do is go over the main difference with having Syobai in the V3 world.
Unlike Ouma, Syobai isn't looking to get attention and is pretty passive regarding the events of the killing game. He mainly stays in the shadows tending to his own affairs and only contributing to the investigations or trials as much as he deems fit. He may have a sketchy appearance and fits the bill as a villain, but he isn't interested in getting the spotlight like the resident liar.
So for Chapters 1-3, he doesn't have a prominent presence among his peers. Especially since he frequently badmouths them both by appearance and personality so most people would be glad to avoid him. The cases for Kaede and Toujo carry out the same way with minor differences. However...
I imagine that Syobai would actually learn that Maki was really the SHSL Assassin before everyone else. He learned it either after he recieved her motive video or from deductive reasoning. ("What type of babysitter says 'Do you wanna die?' like an everyday thing?") So after the second trial, he meets with her in secret and says that he knows. Naturally Maki would strangle him, but Syobai's years of experience with assassins/killers keeps him level headed throughout the ordeal. That and he repays her by stabbing her in the thigh. He still has his knife and isn't afraid to use it. Maki threatens that she can kill him but Syobai says that it's pointless since he knows her secret and can just hand the evidence to the others to convict her. He states that he'll keep her talent a secret but he does want a little favor from her in the future. Just in case he needs her for something.
In the third case, he starts to get more involved in the trial after the others are stumped over why and how Tenko and Angie would be killed. Syobai would step in and offer some of his personal insight on why the killer would want them both. It's also at this point that Syobai makes mention of how pathetic Saihara is as a detective, especially with everyone coddling him and saying how he's grown so much. ("Geez Mr. Detective. For someone who grew so much, you still need alot of hand holding"). This earns him some backlash from Kaito who constantly shouts praises about his sidekick and tells him to back off.
And here's where things get different in the fourth case. Along with the secret motive card, Iruma has everyone go inside the virtual world to find it and look for potential clues. While everyone is logging in, Syobai would have stayed behind to look at the computer and learn of the details regarding the virtual world. And it's here that he learns about how Iruma was planning on targeting him since he's one of the sharper tools in the shed. After checking out the basic guide, he decides to alter the avatars for himself and a person at random before logging on to see what would happen. And once everyone comes back, they are shocked to discover Saihara basically brain dead in his seat.
The trial carries on with no one being able to make sense of who would want to kill Saihara. Most of the teens are confused over what could have happened, Kaito is an emotional mess after failing to protect his friend, and Iruma is trembling over what she did and tries to pass it off as her regular insecurities. So Syobai would step in, taking up the role of POV protagonist, and fill in the gaps over the dynamics of the virtual world and what was really going on in there. He then goes on to claim Iruma as the killer and loosely admits that he tampered with the computer settings before logging on. Everyone makes the connection that Syobai is the reason for Saihara's death and all turn on him, even Kaito is even more furious than usual. But Syobai would decide to have had enough and go off on them.
"My god. You really are this pathetic. Did you really have to depend on Detective Boy for everything? Are you all so helpless that you can't even think with your own brains? I thought it was a joke with how everyone was acting all sappy and crap by praising Detective Boy like he was the freakin' Messiah. You can't survive without having someone to follow. Like mindless sheep who've lost their herder, you're all just waiting to be slaughtered by the big bad wolf."
This shakes everyone with how they've been acting. But Kaito stays stubborn and continues to resist Syobai's words. I even imagine that the Argument Armarment/Boss Battle would still be Kaito who refuses to listen to Syobai's statement on pro-activeness and morality. Once he wins, the class would execute Iruma after she reveals the dark secrets she learned of the outside world. And once she's gone, Kaito's inner Kamina gets the better of him and he decides to deck Syobai in the face. And to his and everyone's shock, he gets rewarded with a stab to the belly.
"What happened Mr. Hero? Are you sad because your sidekick is gone? Or is it really because now someone else gets to be the big hero who saves the day, while you're still stuck on the sidelines as a cheerleader? With a mouth as loud as yours, it's something you're better suited for. And as for me, I'm no one's hero. You could have all died for all I care. I only helped because my ass was on the line too. But if you still want to play pretend, then you can call me the big bad wolf."
He lets go of Kaito and says that his stab wound hasn't hit any organs so it's not a critical wound. Everyone would go to Kaito to help him which further bruises his ego. But before he goes, Syobai calls out to the babysitter telling her to come by his room in a bit. He decided to cash in his favor.
And that's all I have so far. I do want to think of what could happen in Chapter 5 but I'd love to hear your own thoughts on this. And if you have any ideas or changes for this, you're more than welcome to tell me!
#submission#princeasimdiya12#sdra2#ndrv3#ill respond in the tags— sorry; i don’t get many submissions!#im clueless on replying etiquette lmao#but anyhow OH I LIKE THIS A LOT I FORGOT HOW FERAL SYOBAI IS#ah but i really do like these ideas a lot#it’s not ooc for him to be so critical of shuuichi & everyone else honestly#also he’s knife crazy i love that. the parallel to ouma punching kaito#miu killing shuuichi though.. id bet she’d be shocked n freaking out#syobai sabotaged a whole ass murder

Can you please do some headcanons of Shuichi and his s/o going double dates with Rantaro and Kaede?
Part of this is an imagine because I got carried away, whoops. I promise I get to the Headcanons as well, I just love this idea.
Saihara Shuichi & S/O Going on a Double-Date with Rantaro Amami & Kaede Akamatsu!
It would be Rantaro and Kaede’sidea, but specifically Kaede’s – she had been friends with Saihara for so long, and he was always the third-wheel on their dates. When you came into his life, she saw an opportunity that was never there before, and one she didn’t want topass up.
They had been together for much longer than you and Saihara, and it was acasual way for him to introduce you to some of his closest friends.
After all, he is the one who got Rantaro and Kaede together.
A bit apprehensive, neither of you had gone on a double-date before, and youcould sense that Saihara was a bit nervous as well. Still, you did your best tocalm his nerves.
The first time the four of you went on a double-date was the classic ‘dinnerand movie’ scenario – a bit old-school and cheesy, but Rantaro is the one whoorganized it and he’s more of an old-fashioned romantic.
He also made sure topick a horror movie, not because he was particularly fond of them but becausehe wanted to give Saihara a chance to make some moves on you.
The Detective was becoming increasingly anxious as the date grew closer, whichcaused you to giggle. “It’s not like you’re dating all three of us. It’s me andtwo of your friends that you’ve known for years.” Unsure of why he was sonervous, you did your best to coax him out of the stress.
And you were right, he was getting himself worked up for no good reason.
The meeting spot was in front of the restaurant the four of you picked together– one that all of you thoroughly enjoyed. Although, you and Saihara arrived much earlierthan anticipated.
That was normally how it went though. On all of your double-dates, Saihara insisted on getting there early - he was punctual.
During the actual dinner, you could sense that the Detective was still on edge.Truthfully, he was only nervous since you hadn’t been dating for too long norhave you gone on very many dates, and he really wanted his friends to like you.
You and Kaede ended up bonding very quickly, while the boys remain somewhatquiet, especially Saihara. Rantaro would jump in during some of Kaede’s stories or ruin the punchline of her jokes, which caused her to scowl at her partner.
During the movie, Saihara notices that Kaede jumps and then leans into Rantaro’schest; the taller man would wrap his arm around her and pull her close. Wantingto impress you, Saihara tries his hand at doing the same.
Saihara isn’t nearly as smooth as Rantaro, though…
He sighs and casually leans into the seat and wraps his arm around yourshoulder. You watch him narrowly from the corner of your eye since this isn’t amove he made very often, but still ease into his embrace. Right around thattime, though, a jumpscare shakes the audience and causes Saihara to yelp sincehe wasn’t paying attention, coiling his arm back into his chest defensively.
With Saihara now blushing furiously, you rest your head on his shoulder tocomfort him. This doesn’t go without receiving quiet laughter from Rantaro and Kaede, though.
It started raining on the way back to the car, so Rantaro gave Kaede his jacketand pulled her close to shield her from the weather. Saihara tries doing thesame but ends up getting his arm caught in his sleeve.
Muttering under his breath, he stares at the ground silently with disdain andstomps back to the car, loosely holding your hand.
From inside the safety of your vehicles, you roll the window down as Kaede doesthe same and started talking about your date. “We really need to do this againsometime!” Kaede cheers with a wide smile, and Rantaro nods in agreement as hepasses you a warm grin from the driver’s seat.
The four of you go on several more double-dates, and as your relationship growsstronger, Saihara also becomes much more confident.
Kaede insists on planning most of them, and the dates she plans are often much more casual and easygoing.
Once, the four of you went to a local Carnival. The boys tried endlessly to win you two a prize, which resulted in Saihara losing most of his money and Rantaro winning Kaede a giant stuffed bear. Saihara was a bit jealous, to say the least.
A lot of your dates also consist of going to different restaurants none of you have ever been to before and trying new things. It’s Rantaro and Kaede who want to get you all out of your shells, as Rantaro is the most adventurous out of the group.
Your double-dates wind up being a semi-weekly occurrence, whenever you’re all free. Thankfully, your schedules seem to line-up so they happen frequently.
You are welcomed into their little friend-group very quickly, both Rantaro and Kaede approving of you to the Detective. It warms Saihara’s heart to see you and his two closest friends getting along so well.
Although you do have your own individual dates, you and Saihara agree that it’s just more entertaining with more people. Kaede is also the resident photographer, and is always capturing the moments you all share.
Rantaro and Kaede typically walk in front of you two, whilst you and Saihara hang back a bit. He’s gotten smoother as time has gone on, thriving to be more like Rantaro in that sense.
Rantaro will usually walk with his arm around Kaede’s shoulders, whilst Saihara is a bigger fan of hand-holding. He says it’s because it feels much more intimate and childlike.
One of your favorite moments came from when you all decided to try a small ice-cream shop downtown. Both couples got milkshakes to share and set them down on the table.
Saihara, wanting to do something cute for you, took a sip without looking and ended up accidentally drinking out of Rantaro’s and Kaede’s cup instead, locking eyes with the green-haired man, drinking out of the other straw mere inches away from his face, who simply smirked and made jokes about it relentlessly. Their noses were nearly touching and Saihara almost fell out of his seat when he realized it wasn’t you that he was staring at.
Neither you nor Kaede could contain your laughter and Saihara simply blushed and hid his face under his hat.
You’ve thought about inviting Kaito and Maki out as well, and have once before, but that didn’t go so well… you’ve come to the conclusion that double-dates are enough.
- Mod Rantaro

It was only the day after. Stood before the infamous eleventh division, it felt different. Of course, the still third seat Shiba would sense the merriness of men still drunk off victory. But there was not a glance to them.
Her nerves steeled, her path set on one reiatsu within. When the man was found, her heeled feet came to a dead stop. Her tired, sleepless eyes lingered on the white garment he adorned. It was in tatters... So different from his. Yet both still bore that ever familiar insignia. No, she told herself, she must have answers.
“Captain Zaraki...?” The feminine voice was meek, as if exhausted. She cleared her throat.
“Captain Zaraki, I’m Kaede... Shiba.”

Hello Spring 1
Prompt: Reencounter after 3 years
Synopsis: Miu and Kirumi run into each other at the grocery store 4 years after Danganronpa ended.
@ibwhellospring
”Hey, watch it!”
Kirumi immediately backed off as a blonde woman nearly hit her with her shopping cart. She silently cursed her body for deciding the middle of a grocery store was a good place to start taking imaginary buzzsaws to her limbs. Grabbing her basket, she dragged it a little closer to her.
“My apologies, I didn’t see you there.” The words were hesitant and quiet. For a second, she wasn’t sure the blonde had even heard, but then she sighed and put down the avocado she was holding.
“It’s cool. Sorry for nearly running you over, I’m in a shitty mood today,” the woman replied, turning towards her. She froze up, and Kirumi was about to ask what was wrong when the blonde asked “Maid-bitch?”
“Miu?” Kirumi was a little stunned. She hadn’t seen Miu since that one party Kaede threw about three years ago, which had ended in about half the class being banned from Kaede and Shuichi’s apartment and Kaito breaking his arm. She’d definitely lost weight since then, and she’d cut her hair too.
“Geez, haven’t seen you in fuckin’ ages!” Miu said, grinning. “Whatcha been up to?”
“Not very much, really,” she said, more out of habit than anything else. To be honest, nothing much had really changed since they last spoke. She’d picked up a second job and was debating a third due to wage cuts, but that was about it. “What about you?”
“Not much,” she shrugged. “Still living with Kiibo, and I’m still a mechanic.”
“That’s nice.”
“Not really.”
Miu grabbed a bag of grapes and dropped it in her cart. “Hey, wanna come over?”
“Um…” She wasn’t sure that was a brilliant idea. She was busy, after all, and her shift at the convenience store would start in a few hours. Another part of her, the part that was lonely and bored and quite honestly pathetic, said to at least come over for a bit. She hadn’t talked to Kiibo in about a month, and she certainly hadn’t been doing much other than working and staying at home recently. “Okay, let’s go.”
She wasn’t entirely sure why she was agreeing, but nevertheless she helped Miu load their groceries into her car and climbed into the passenger seat. Miu grinned at her.
“So, how does your virgin ass feel about country music?”
“Please don’t.”

V3 Spoilers under cut. Just some stuff that has been on my mind since I played the game.
Okay, so I haven’t played it as much as the first two, and I really do adore Shuichi as a character. Let me get those two things out first because I don’t want any angry people in my inbox. This isn’t to complain about Shuichi, or that V3 took things in a different direction than the first two games. The third installment in any franchise has a tough job, balancing fan expectations and keeping the spirit of the story alive enough to please people who have been there since the beginning; while also being new and exciting enough as to not feel stale, and maybe even draw in a whole new crowd. I get that. Changing up a series is not, by default, a bad thing, and I don’t want to imply that DR should have stuck with the same old formula. I’m just saying that there was one glaring misuse of the characters that lowkey sucked. And for the purposes of not writing a whole novel, I’ll probably gloss over some big, important stuff in the interests of streamlining. Please don’t be mad. This is just the impression that the game gave me.
(And yeah, I’m talking like UDG didn’t exist. I still haven’t finished that game to be honest. It’s enjoyable in it’s own merits, and I’m loving the familiar faces and all, but at times it just doesn’t feel like Danganronpa. Yeah, I said it. Maybe that’s my own problem, though - the third-person adventure/horror aspect isn’t my style usually, unless the game is something else. But I digress.)
So, onto our main point, I’m gonna come out and say it: Shuichi was a poor choice for a protagonist.
Let’s rewind for a minute to the first two games, shall we? Each cast was likable in their own ways, the different environments gave each story it’s own atmosphere while still retaining that unmistakable Danganronpa feeling. There were things we could rely on as we transitioned from one game to the other, and things we could be surprised by. One thing about DR is that it has the same trio over and over, right up until this game, where the roles are inexplicably changed. (And again, changing things up: not automatically invalid. But this was a large part of the soul of Danganronpa: the ability to feel like your ordinary self has become a part of this world of Ultimates, and the battle between hope and despair. It’s designed to make you a part of the game so you really feel the highs and lows and every little consequence; and nowhere is it as blatant as in this game, see the final trial. That’s why this change was so bizarre.)
In the first game, it was Makoto, Kyoko and Byakuya. In the second, it was Hajime, Chiaki and Nagito. Respectively, their roles were such:
Your protagonist and POV character. They were relatable in many ways: feeling out of place in the presence of all this talent to which they felt they couldn’t compare, somewhat naive, always wanting to believe the best of others, never particularly keen to put anyone to death. They weren’t unintelligent by any means, but their self-doubt and desire to keep the group as a group would hold them back from difficult deductions. This would show in different degrees and in different ways in the characters, but it was always very much there. Much like the player: we didn’t want to put our faves to death, but we didn’t have a choice. For the most part, it was the protagonist who kept that human element to an otherwise fantastical environment, full of people who were only borderline believable. They kept the story grounded, presenting it through their respective viewpoints. The game doesn’t have to justify why it has this almost fictional quality to it’s story and characters, because Makoto and Hajime have both observed that it’s almost not real. But then they get close to the other characters and form attachments, and truly become a part of events themselves, and it all feels very real. It’s through this character that our ordinary selves can truly experience a world like the one in Danganronpa.
Next, you have the two sidekicks, performing polarizing roles. All very intelligent, often figuring out the case before our protagonist. You have Kyoko and Chiaki: dropping hints, assisting us along the way, serving as a moral compass of sorts. When we feel lost or confused in the class trial, it’s this character who usually helps us find our way to the truth. And you have Byakuya and Nagito, who exist to misdirect us. Forcing us to strive to be better; rather than relying on the work others do. (And yeah, I know all these characters are deeper than that -- I’m just talking about their basic function in relation to the protagonist). This allows the POV character, and by extension us, to navigate the class trials and the moral dilemma they present, not by providing answers, but by providing growth. By the end, out protagonists have gone from feeling overwhelmed and uncertain, to being able to stand up against the mastermind, even if we’ve lost our sidekicks by that point.
Now, let’s look at V3′s golden trio. I’ve seen some debate around this but, in terms of this particular dynamic, we’ve got: Kaede, Shuichi and Kokichi. Or at least, that’s who we should have.
Kokichi is the obvious choice for an antagonistic character who forces us to up our anti a little bit. He’s constantly throwing us for a loop, constantly making things harder, but never sabotaging us to the point where the trial becomes literally impossible. Love him or hate him, he is a very good, complex character with exceptional narrative utility. I don’t think I need to go into depth with this one, because I don’t think anyone would disagree that this is his role. So moving on.
As for Shuichi, he does very much fit the description I gave above of the general layout of a Danganronpa protag: that he’s somewhat self-doubting, overwhelmed at the scope of the people he’s been put amongst, gets along with the others for the most part, doesn’t want to doubt his friends, and goes through extraordinary character growth. However, there are a few issues he has that the others do not. For starters: most of his relevant character growth in terms of what Hajime and Makoto went through happens in the first chapter. He learns from Kaede’s death to trust his own deductions and believe in his talent. He still has a lot of self-doubt, and is still very relatable, but from there, most of his story revolves around trusting others and working as a team, rather than his internal conflicts. That seems more in line with Kyoko’s arc of opening up to Makoto and letting the others in on what she learns rather than flying solo all the time; and of Chiaki’s arc of finally being able to tell Hajime the truth of who she is, and wanting to bring everyone together. Again, I’m kind of strawmanning the character here; but even if I’m dead wrong about his motivations (it sucks not being able to screenshot, you forget so much), there’s one more major flaw. His talent.
Through the class trials, our POV character goes in with about as much certainty as we have. And we, alongside them, uncover the truth of the case. We’re essentially experiencing the class trial through their eyes, experiencing being the key word here. Shuichi, however, is the smartest and most capable detective in the room, what with being the Ultimate Detective and all. The feeling I got from him wasn’t that I was solving the mystery through him, but rather that he would have all the answers at least a split-second before me, then the game just kind of waits for me to catch up. There was a lot more “I knew it!” and “As I thought!” kind of going on there, rather than “Aha! The answer can only be __!”
Furthermore, Shuichi isn’t terribly proactive. Which is fine, to an extent. The previous POV characters would kind of get thrust into situations too; but once they were there, they were an active part of events. Hajime didn’t want to go feed Nagito, but in doing so, became an active part of what was going on with his story, and learned early on about his manipulation of Mahiru. Makoto didn’t go out investigating Mukuro on his own, but once Kyoko told him about her, he used that information to his advantage, particularly in the Trials. And there were events for which they were active catalysts, too. Not too boring, but not pulling a lot of major strings, either: giving the player a front row seat to the action, letting something amazing play out for their ordinary selves to enjoy, but also making them feel like their actions matter. For Shuichi, he’s dragged into everything he’s involved in, and even then, he’s either just kind of there, present and accounted for while stuff happens; or he’s off on his own, even if someone else is physically present. For instance, when he and Kaito are investigating, Kaito might be there, but Shuichi is doing all the leg work, really. Not saying Kaito is useless, just...saying. And this is totally fine, and consistent with his character. He’s not very social until he gets to know someone well, and he’s definitely more intellectual and emotional than he is a physical being. But again, your protagonist needs to toe that line between being passive enough that stuff can still happen around them, and active enough that the player can engage with that stuff. And again: Shuichi more fits the mold of someone like Chiaki, who is often off on her own, and only intervenes in situations when she absolutely must; or Kyoko, who is also off on her own a lot, and isn’t sociable at all. In terms of free time events and stuff, I have no trouble believing Makoto or Hajime would make an effort to, out-of-the-blue, find and learn more about a fellow classmate; but Shuichi? Not so much. Again: he’s just not a person who is comfortable with other people. Which is all fine and relatable and good for him as a character. But as a POV? Sure he gets close with his little workout gang, but only because Kaito drags him along. Even Kaede spends most of the first chapter just pulling him around everywhere. After a while, all this adds up and makes you feel detached from events: less like you’re playing a game, and more like you’re watching a movie.
So we’ve established that, as far as the game goes, Shuichi is a good character but makes a better sidekick archetype than a POV protagonist. So what’s the difference between him and Kaede that makes her a great, Danganronpa-esque protag?
Well...the opposite of everything I’ve said.
For starters, her talent. Thus far, our protagonists’ talents have been generally the least impressive of the group. (Okay, yeah, Hajime was eventually the Ultimate Everything, but we only find that out at the end. He spent all game being the Ultimate Nothing, and therefore had all his relevant character growth before that. By this point, we already experienced the events of the game through him, and have already grown accustomed to the very human, very fallible, Hajime. Tell me he’s Izuru, I’m just as easily gonna see the guy who passed out on the beach but over time became a badass.) Ultimate Pianist is kind of a niche talent, but I don’t think that makes it isolating. For one, like her predecessors, her talent is utterly useless in a trial setting. Unless there were some specific circumstances, knowing how to play piano will not help her find a killer. (Technically Makoto’s luck could have been useful, but I think it’s made pretty clear he and his class passed those trials through hard work, not luck). The most important thing for a protagonist has to be their ability to be relatable by being brave and true and all that Good Stuff, not to be born exceptional. How are you going to pander to a market who is trying to escape their dull lives if all they have to escape to are people who are fundamentally better than them in ways they could never relate to? Anyway can be brave, not anyone can be Sherlock.
Because Kaede’s character was built mostly around her traits and not her talent, she’s still easily relatable. She, like us, wants the best for her fellow characters. She’s moralistic, kind, and defiant of the circumstance she’s been thrust into, all things we can aspire to. She’s likeable, but not infallible or unbelievable. She can be bossy at times, her own personal sense of justice perhaps her biggest downfall. This idea of “good/hope MUST triumph over evil/despair” which has been pushed by the game itself, is used as it’s newest protagonist’s flaw, and is a viewpoint that will ultimately be subverted in the final trial.
Kaede is, overall, more sociable and active. I buy that she spends her free time getting to know other people. She doesn’t always think with her head, and she is the type to stumble into situations by accident, meaning she’s a much more viable candidate to be just lucky enough to wind up in wacky hijinks, and just active enough to really become a part of them. Also, I’m gonna just mention the elephant in the room real quick: it sucks that the only female protagonist out of the main games had to be killed off. I liked the idea of a female protag.
Okay, I know I said it was a bummer that Shuichi so quickly moved past doubting himself and his own talent much too quickly, especially when the protags we’re used to take most of the game to do that sort of thing. Kaede doesn’t really have much self-doubt, to be honest. She doesn’t struggle with the morality of the situation she’s in: instead, her solution is simplistic and naive: “We just won’t kill. Easy.” This is a polar opposite of our protagonists, but not invalid. Remember: not all changes are bad, and this is the third installment. We expect some shakeups to the formula.
This actually could’ve been used really well, if Kaede was given more time. After her idea of “we just won’t play!!1!” is crushed and she’s forced to endure an entire class trial and vote for someone to be executed, this would’ve shattered (or at least, damaged) her pure and perfect world view. She would be forced to look inward, and question her frankly childish sense of right and wrong, which ties in so much better with the eventual themes of the final trial. Rather than seeing only good and evil, she would be forced to confront the moral grey that exists within her, and within all situations. And she would have to do so without losing what makes her fundamentally Kaede - her optimism, her strength, and her trust in others. I’ve seen this done well rarely, but most notably in characters like Penelope Garcia. I truly feel like Danganronpa could’ve pulled this off.
“But Jenny! There’s a problem!! You said that it was after the first trial that Shuichi had the development to grow into a great Chiaki/Kyoko archetype, but that only happens through the death of Kaede!!! If she survived, he would still be hiding in her shadow!!”
I’ve thought of that too. So say, instead, Kaede just comes really close to being killed in the trial. Say, the vote is split 50-50 between her and the real killer. Shuichi is the only one with the key information to sway the final voter/s, but he knows in doing so, he will condemn someone to death. He can do so and save Kaede, or close his eyes and leave it up to chance. In the end, he trusts his talent and uses what he knows to shed light on the truth. He has to come to terms with condemning someone, but he knows that he also saved an innocent person. Once again tying in so well with the final theme of how good and evil and right and wrong aren’t always distinguishable; and giving Shuichi a great character development moment that’s more than just “my girlfriend is dead so now I can grow, I’m so glad the franchise has never played this angle before or it would feel tired and kind of sexist :(”; and giving Kaede a chance to view first-hand that you can be a good person, and walk a grey line. I thought of that in two seconds. Just saying.
But anyway, that’s just one long-ass thought from someone who has played this game one and a half times. I want to play it again, and maybe I’ll change my own mind, who knows. But while I’m still of this mindset, I wanted it out there.
#meta;#v3 spoilers#( that took entirely too long to write and I can't be bothered proofreading again so..have it )

Take a Hint
night seven of the “eight nights of ukai” for @dasfreefree
Kaede ushered you in, fussing about the chill now that the sun had set.
“Tetsu, is in his office but should be down soon.”
“Do you need help in the kitchen?”
Kaede hesitated and you knew that meant the Takedas had company.
“No you can sit in the living room. We’ll eat soon.”
You nodded, familiar with the song and dance.
Opening the screen to enter the living room, you clicked your tongue. “I see we meet again.”
Ukai looked up and narrowed his eyes. A grin threatened to break free. “I see we do.” He was seated at the kotatsu.
You shook your head, crossing your arms. “We’ll have to settle this once and for all.”
“There’s only room for one at the table,” he said, nodding.
“Right! And it should be me!”
“Please. I’ve done the most for Takeda-sensei.”
“I’ve know them longer!” You laughed, turning as footsteps approached.
“Dinner is ready!” Takeda announced.
“What are you two bickering about now?” Kaede put her fists on her hips
(You and Ukai once took a bet on who thought this charade was a bright idea.
‘This has sensei written all over it.’
‘Ittetsu would never be this subtle. Kaede at least puts the breaks on it’)
“We never bicker!” You jumped in.
Kaede stuck her tongue out. “Dinner’s getting cold.”
“Then, let’s eat.” Ukai stood up.
Dinner, karaoke, plays, baseball games.
The Takedas would invite you and Ukai to outings only to leave you alone at some point. You started joking you were supposed to be the designated third wheel and that Ukai was threatening your job security. He quickly picked it up and the “argument” became your inside joke.
It helped cut through the tension.
“I get bonus points for getting here first,” Ukai said, bumping into you lightly.
You snorted, as your heart started to race. “I think I’m still in the lead, Ukai-kun.”
“Maybe so,” he replied in English.
You laughed.
He started using the online memes you sent him. “I finally understand what the kids are saying at practice.”
You sat at the table and caught Takeda, grinning at you. Your face flushed, and you looked away.
Definitely Takeda’s idea.
Kaede kept conversation afloat. She could prod Takeda into a monologue if he seemed to be heading into a direction she didn’t like. Which usually meant asking if you’d been on dates.
“Ukai, Tetsu says the boys are doing great.”
“They are.” Ukai sat up and started explaining the way the second years had really solidified the rotation.
Or something.
When Ukai shifted, he pressed his thigh against yours. And, it was hard to concentrate on anything but that. You wanted him to move but also didn’t.
You fiddled with your chopsticks to try to concentrate.
He moved and you took a breath.
Kaede started talking about the girls’ soccer club she advised.
You pressed your knee against Ukai’s. You could see him glance at you out of the corner of your eye. You pretended you didn’t see him.
Ukai pressed back. He leaned over and you held your breath.
“We have a practice match on Saturday. ____, you should come,” Takeda-sensei said.
Ukai snapped back and you pulled your leg back.
“There’s no pressure,” Kaede shot her husband a look.
“I’ll have to see what my schedule says.”
Kaede stood up before the silence got any thicker. “Does anyone want dessert?”
“I have an early morning tomorrow. I’ll have to pass.” Ukai shook his head.
“I’ll pass, too.”
“____, your mom dropped you off, right?” Kaede leaned on Takeda. “I can drop you off.”
“Okay, thank you.”
“Tetsu, can you start cleaning the table?” He nodded and Kaede kissed his forehead. She beckoned you with her head, “Let’s go.”
You stood up and Ukai helped pulling your chair back. You smiled at him. He followed you to the hallway.
“How’s the novel?”
You groaned, “Driving me crazy.”
“I’m sure it’s going to be great.”
“Ready to go?” Kaede joined you in the hallway.
You nodded.
“Good night, ____. Good night Kaede.”
“Good night, Ukai.”
Kaede waved, ushering you out. She waited until she pulled out of the apartment parking lot. “So, Tetsu is kind of doing a lot.”
You whipped around. “Oh, I didn’t notice!”
“I’m sorry! He mentioned how he thought you and Ukai would be good together and I thought so, too. Next thing I knew Tetsu had this elaborate scheme to trick you two into dating. I had to intervene a lot. Not that this is better.”
“I mean.” You threw your hands up. “It worked cus I have a huge crush on Ukai.”
“I noticed. Tetsu…hasn’t, and I won’t dare tell him. But if you want us to stop, we will.”
You groaned. “I don’t know what I want,” you whined. “I only see Ukai when we all hang out and I don’t have the guts to ask him out.”
Kaede pursed her lips. “Ok. If you want any help in the form of nudging or otherwise, let me know.” She pulled in front of your apartment.
“Ok.”
“I’m going to the game Saturday if that helps.” Kaede raised a shoulder.
You nodded before getting out of the car. “I’ll let you know.”
+
Kaede waved when she saw you in the stands. She patted the seat next to her.
“We’re up 11-5. But this team can rack up quick points and has a stellar defense.”
You nodded, scanning the court.
Kaede continued, explaining what was going on.
“So now what?” You asked as the teams shuffled towards each other.
“That’s the game,” Kaede stood. “Are you going to say hi to Ittetsu?”
Or Ukai?
“Sure.”
Takeda-sensei was talking to the officials when you and Kaede got to ground level. He excused himself and flashed a huge grin at his wife.
“Hello, my love.”
Kaede rolled her eyes, a tiny grin peeking out. “Good game.”
“Thank you for coming, ____.
You nodded. “The team played very well. Well, according to Kaede.”
“That’s high praise.” You felt a hand on your shoulder and turned.
Ukai waved. “Hi.”
“Hi,” you brushed hair behind your ear.
“Thanks for coming.”
“No problem. It was fun to watch.” You clasped your hands to keep from fidgeting.
“Uh, are you doing anything after? Like do you have plans tonight?”
You hummed a ‘no’.
“Do you want to go get a drink? It’s how we usually celebrate a win.”
You wrinkled your nose, smirking. “Sensei, goes to get a drink after games?” No way. Neither of the Takedas are drinkers.
“No. Well not, Sensei. Usually it’s me and the boys, my old high school teammates. But —”
“Are they here? I’m down for a drink.”
“No. It would just be us...Is that ok?”
You felt heat rise in your chest. “Yea. You, that’s fine.”
Ukai played with one of his earrings. “I figured it’s time I got with the Takeda program.”
You didn’t answer for a moment. “Here I thought you were serious about evening the score.”
Ukai’s eyes lit up as he put his hands on his hips. “We have more important things to handle, ____.”
You grinned.
Maybe a little meddling didn’t hurt.
A/N: this was probably my favorite one of the eight.

The Hunt - SNAFU
The wind tugged at the hem of her fur-lined cloak as she stood on the edge of a rise, peering out over the mottled green and gray of the landscape. These lands were familiar, now, more familiar even than the woods of her homeland, now sundered and long lost. The chill was there, bone-deep, in that wind. She could taste its bite, bitter on her lips and tongue.
“Well?”
“We’re close,” Isryael said, glancing back at her friend. “Only another few miles.”
“Good,” Kaede muttered, glancing at the third of their party, wrapped in Isryael’s spare cloak against the deepening chill. The man sat easily in the saddle of Isryael’s warhorse, green eyes staring off into the distance. He was dressed simply, far more simply than either of them had expected a lone blood elf to be out in the middle of nowhere in the Howling Fjord. He hadn’t said a word since Kaede had finished, and the thousand yard stare seemed fixed.
Isryael frowned. “Has he—?”
“No,” Kaede said, her voice far more cheery than it should have been considering the day they’d already had. “Not a peep. But he’s good at riding a horse while marginally aware, so there’s that?”
“I think you took it a step too far, Kaede.”
“Oh, probably. But at least he doesn’t have post-traumatic stress anymore.”
Isryael deadpanned at her. The priestess’s eyes gleamed and she grinned, as if proud of her handiwork.
“You said you were going to fix him.”
“I did! His mind is his own and the pain’s gone away.”
“You scrambled his brains.”
“So I got a little overzealous. Maybe in untangling the mess I crossed a few wires the wrong way. But he doesn’t have anxiety anymore either so there’s that.”
“Elune’s holy fucking teat.”
Kaede’s expression darkened. “Watch your tone.”
Isryael rolled her eyes. “Goddess forgive me for taking your breast in vain. Kaede. You broke him.”
“I fixed more than I broke.” She cast a glance over at the elf seated on horseback beside her, studying his profile for a second. “I wish I could shed my baggage that easily. Seriously, why couldn’t someone scramble my brain?”
“Because it would be your mother and she has moral compunctions against doing that these days,” Isryael said, expression deadpan and her voice flat. She glanced away, rubbing at the old brand against her breastbone, the one in the shape of a crescent moon pendant that she’d worn for decades at the behest of an old friend—the same friend who had trained both Kaede and the priestess’s mother.
“Mm. Right.”
“If you really want her to, though, you could ask her nicely. You did fix her friend.”
Kaede winced. “I also almost killed him in the process. I’m not sure how well it worked out, either, and one of her protégés probably still wants to shiv me in the kidney and then slit my throat.”
“Next time do a better job of making sure they know that you don’t actually want to kill your mother.” Isryael sighed. “How long do you think we’re going to have Thousand Yard Stare here with us?”
Kaede grimaced and shrugged. “Damned if I know. I’ve never—I’ve never done this before to someone I didn’t mean to do it to. I mean, She doesn’t usually tell me to fix people like this.”
“Did you ask Her how to undo it?”
“Our lines of communication aren’t exactly like that.”
Isryael closed her eyes, counted to three. “This isn’t terribly helpful.”
Kaede shrugged. “Sometimes it’s not. Do you really think that half the things my mother did were things she wanted to do, that she felt right doing? Do you think Nessiana did?”
“Yes and yes,” Isryael said, deadpanning again, staring at her. “Don’t play this game with me.”
Kaede sighed. “Right. Right, fine.” She slanted another glance toward the silent third of their trio. Her expression softened slightly, going slack. Her voice got quiet. “I don’t know how to fix him, Isryael. I wish I did. I just did the best I could with what I know. You don’t send a butcher to do a surgeon’s job.”
“Except She did.”
The priestess nodded, and for the first time in what felt like forever, Isryael saw tears rimming the other woman’s eyes. She sighed, moving toward the younger kaldorei, reaching to touch her knee. Kaede squeezed her fingers, sighing and swiping at her eyes with her free hand.
“Yes,” Kaede said softly. “Yes, She did. Now I just have to figure out what to do now.” She glanced at the third elf again, studying him, his face, his armor—what little was visible beneath the cloak—and frowned a little. “Are you sure your friend is trustworthy? That they’ll be discrete?”
Isryael nodded. “They will be. They’ll keep this quiet. We just—we need to make sure he’s physically sound, that’s all.”
“I know,” Kaede said softly. “It still makes me nervous.”
“It’ll be all right.”
“Isn’t that my line?”
Isryael smiled. “Sometimes.”
Kaede stared out over the landscape. “Well, let’s go, then. Let’s make sure he’s okay.”
Isryael nodded, taking the reins of their companion’s horse and starting down the winding trail again.

Picture This #4
In advance, I'm sorry I haven't posted a request lately, but this was an idea I've had for some time now and just wanted to write out. So, I'll make this Picture This #4! Here you go!
Imagine the V3 gang going to an amusement park.
Once they arrive in the park, Tenko is gushing to Himiko about all the great things they're gonna do at the park together! Rides, games, you name it! Himiko wasn't as happy to be at the park, though, as she thought all the walking around would be a drag. She does enjoy the carousel a lot, though
Tenko was desperate to escape from the rest of the group, though, as the last thing she wanted was a "degenerate male" tagging along.
Angie does, however, catch up to them and happily accepts the role of the third wheel! She's also very exited to be at the park, and constantly gives praise to Atua over the course of the day for granting them the chance to go to such an amazing place!
Meanwhile, Kaito is dragging Maki to the line of the largest roller coaster at the park. Miu tags along, as she wanted to show the others up and look like the toughest person of the group when it came to rides like this.
Kaito and Miu immediately panicked and freaked out once the coaster started. And one may or may not have thrown up on the pedestrian in the seat in front of them.
Maki didn't want to go to the park, originally. However, she was a bit glad that she was dragged there, as she found it slightly enjoyable. While she did have some fun, it was kinda overshadowed by having to help Miu and Kaito recover from the ride and the aggravation that task gave her.
You may be wondering why Kirumi didn't help them out. Well, Kirumi already agreed to being the bag holder, as she wasn't a large fan of the festivities going on at the amusement park.
She was also accompanying Korekiyo, who was viewing the several different emotions places like this pulled from people. The good, bad, and ugly emotions that were seen by him were nothing short of beautiful in his eyes, like usual.
Shuichi decided to go with Kaede to the different carnival booths set up, where people could win prizes and such. They both took some tries with the games, and neither were successful, which got Kaede down. Sensing she would probably try to play until she got something and waste a lot of her money, Shuichi decided to buy her an ice cream at the nearby stall instead, which made her very happy and grateful for her friend.
This amusment park happened to have some nice landscaping, as well. Gonta was all over that, but he couldn't find any bugs there. So, he decided to accompany his friends and see what he could do with them instead!
He came across Tsumugi and Kiibo, who weren't large fans of thrill rides. So, the three walked around the park a bit, exploring the place and eventually stopping for snacks. The three had a very good time, though!
Ryoma separated himself from the group, and walked around alone for a bit. The park brought back some nice memories from the past, and ones he knew he would cherish forever. Deciding to try and make new ones, he then met up with Korekiyo and Kirumi and hung out with them for a while, the sounds from the park combining with the three students combined silence.
He was also still slightly salty over the fact the rides he was tall enough to ride were the children's ones. Even though he didn't have the desire to ride the rides at all, it still kinda upset him that he couldn’t get on the other rides if he tried.
Rantaro hung out with Kokichi for a while. The thing is, Kokichi wasn’t as worried about getting on the large thrill rides. He was more excited about doing things like trying to slay people at the bumper cars and going on the smaller but fun rides. He looked really happy, though, and kept smiling throughout the day!
Rantaro followed him around a bit, making sure he didn't get himself in trouble. Rantaro wasn't big on thrill rides as well, and actually really disliked waiting in lines for long amounts of time. He still had fun walking around and watching Kokichi run around like a hyperactive and happy little gremlin.
The two also ended up finding an arcade in the back of the park, and ended up in a heated match of Mario Kart, with Kokichi yelling loudly over the fact he was loosing, scaring many of the other civilians out of the arcade and wondering if the the boy was sane, while Rantaro couldn’t help but somewhat chuckle nervously at his bizarre classmate and friend.
I’m sorry if this sucked, but I’m going to an amusement park in a few weeks and got inspired! Thank you guys for reading!
