Stanisław Batowski-Kaczor, Somosierra
1911, oil on canvas
Notes: The painting depicts 1808 battle of Somosierra of Napoleonic wars, in which the Poles fought under Napoleon. Polish cavary charge was a leading factor of Napoleon's victory. The battle in Polish culture generally remains a symbol of military valour and prowess of Polish soldiers (or even bravado).

Stanisław Kaczor Batowski, Atak Husarii. Chocim (Hussars's charge. Chocim)
1917, oil on canvas
Notes: The painting depicts 1621 Battle of Chocim /Khotyn. Forces of Rzeczpospolita (Polish, Lithuanian, and Ruthenian [Ukrainian] Cossacs) countered and delayed the invasion of Ottoman Empire. Hussars were the elite cavalry, the pride of Rzeczpospolita, known for their battle prowess and characteristic uniforms with wings (but it's disputable if the wings were really worn in battles)

Ot, ryby siną barwą wykłute...
From the series of illustrations for Henryk Sienkiewicz's novel "Pan Wołodyjowski" ("The Fire in the Steppe"), the last part of the famous "Trylogia", by a Polish artist, Jan Marcin Szancer (1902-1973). The charcoal variant published in the edition from 1954 (part 5).
In this occasion, let's remind ourselves another portrayal of this scene by the Polish artist, Stanisław Kaczor-Batowski (1866-1946), an aquarelle from c. 1900:
