TESCheer - Day 3: Ice

A/N: A couple days behind cause life decided to get in the way, hopefully I can catch up. Here’s day 3!

“Raz, we are here on business for—”

“Raz is well aware,” he said, interrupting Kaatima, “but it doesn’t hurt to have a little fun.” He continued to trudge forward in the snow. “Besides we have a few days before we must be in Windhelm. All will be fine, Raz has never led you astray before, has he?” He looked over his shoulder at her, a bright smile on his face and mischief in his eyes.

Kaatima stood on the side of the path, her arms crossed and ears turned back. She hated the cold almost as much as she hated the water and she wanted to be out of Eastmarch as soon as possible. Begrudgingly, she began to follow him through the snow.

They soon came to a stop before a frozen lake. The ice glistened in the sunlight. Raz set his pack down and began to rifle through it.

“Now where did he… Ah ha! There they are.”

She watched as he pulled out a pair of leather boots with blades attached at the bottom. He handed them to her and pulled out a pair of his own.

“And what exactly is this one supposed to do with these?” she asked, frowning.

Raz chuckled. “You wear them, of course! Then use them to skate across the ice. At least, that is how the merchant explained it to Raz. It will be fun to try, yes?”

Kaatima looked down at the skates in her hands. Nords were certainly a strange lot.

“This one supposes it wouldn’t hurt to at least try, but she shall hold you responsible should she break anything.”

25 Days of TES Cheer - Day 3: Hearth

A sweet aroma filled Kaatima’s nose as she entered her parents’ home. The floor boards gently creaked underneath her boots and, behind her, she heard Raz shut the door. The home was quiet and there was no sign of anyone else. For once, she was the first of her siblings to arrive home for the festive season.

While Raz set their bags and weapons down, near where they had entered, Kaatima headed to where she knew the kitchen to be. The aroma grew stronger and had her mouth watering; she had greatly missed her mother’s cooking.

When she entered the kitchen, she found her mother, Azita, standing by the hearth, stirring the cooking pot. At the sound of her footsteps, she looked up from the stew she was cooking and her amber eyes lit up immediately upon seeing her daughter.

“Oh Kaatima!” she cried as she left what she was doing so that she could hug her.

“This one told you she would be back in time,” she replied, returning her embrace.

“Indeed you did and this one is glad to see you unharmed. And Raz too! She did not know you were coming.” she exclaimed as she pulled away from Kaatima and noticed him entering the kitchen. She immediately pulled him into a hug as well.

Raz chuckled. “Of course, he would not miss it for the world.”

“You two have travelled such a long way! You must be starving, sit! Sit!” she told them. “The stew will be done soon!”

Kaatima and Raz did as she told them. Once the stew was done and had been served, Azita joined them at the table, with a bowl of her own. As they ate, they told her of their most recent journey, like they did every time they visited.
