'The Disconnect' is HEART OF A COWARD's fourth full-length album and the first to feature frontman Kaan Tasan. Once again, sound engineers Justin Hill (recording) and Will Putney (mixing and mastering) were involved to make it a roaring success. The writing process for 'The Disconnect' has been long and gradual, with initial work beginning in 2017.
Forming the album started with rough instrumental ideas being pieced together, Steve Haycock, guitarist recalled, "The Disconnect' was not an easy process to begin with after such an extended hiatus, but once the wheels started rolling it was business as usual. Kaan was really involved with the writing process throughout which gave us a new element to focus on when writing”.
Kaan Tasan, who joined the band in late 2017 agreed, "It was one of the most challenging and rewarding writing processes I've ever been involved with. Some tracks just clicked and fell into place, whilst other tracks really pushed us all creatively. It was important for us to get the best out of each other – we really did all go in on this together”.
Discussing the more conceptual aspects of the record, Chris Mansbridge, drummer commented, "'The Disconnect' refers to the feeling of a complete lack of control over your surroundings and the powers that control your life. It’s the feeling of hopelessness, anger and an inability to relate to the world you live in. Its a record we are all extremely proud of and this marks the next chapter of HEART OF A COWARD.”
HEART OF A COWARD have come a long way since their inception in 2009 - racking up admirable praise from press and fans alike, not forgetting the countless touring miles under their belts.
Formed in Milton Keynes in 2009, HEART OF A COWARD have released three albums to date; 'Hope And Hindrance' (2012), 'Severance' (2013) and 'Deliverance' (2015). Defined by their sheer power and tenacity, the band are celebrated stalwarts of the British metal scene, known for their dynamic live shows and masterful performances. Their focus has always been on producing crushing, yet discerning heavy music; their sound defined by its combination of pure force and expertise, complemented by more subtle, emotional moments and personal narratives. With the addition of new front-man Kaan Tasan in early 2018, HEART OF A COWARD are excited to herald in a new era, alongside the myriad of possibilities that new creative blood holds.

Das Album startete mit groben Instrumentalen Ideen, erinnert sich Gitarrist Steve Haycock, “The Disconnect was not an easy process to begin with after such an extended hiatus, but once the wheels started rolling it was business as usual. Kaan was really involved with the writing process throughout which gave us a new element to focus on when writing”. Kaan Tasan, seit 2017 in der Band bestätigt, “It was one of the most challenging and rewarding writing processes I’ve ever been involved with. Ihr Fokus lag schon immer auf dem Produzieren von schmetternder und doch Anspruchsvoller Musik. Die Kombination aus voller Wucht und Feingefühl, geschmückt mit noch feineren emotionalen Momenten, wie persönlichen Geschichten. Download Festival 2019 - Sunday
I Prevail [9] are my first band of the final day of this glorious year, one of the vocalists has a broken foot and is wearing his protective boot, and from the way he is swinging and diving around I imagine that man has had some serious painkillers. They put on quite the set only thing missing would have been their Taylor Swift cover because that was the band that got me into the min the first place. Their passion onstage and their refusal to allow anything other than the best response from their audience and I was extraordinarily impressed with their set.
Underoath [6] were quite disappointing considering how much I enjoyed their last album, I just couldn’t see as much passion and energy from them as I thought they would have here, it was a shame when I was quite disappointed and decided to head off early to see a different act. Nothing wrong with the musical side of the performance but I’ve always said that's what we have music at home for.
Aaron Buchannon & The Cult Classics [10] I actually hadn’t ever heard any of their tunes before but I knew Aaron from his time in Heaven's Basement where I very distinctly remember his high octane performances. It appears ditching the usual rock attire for more dapper attire has not hindered this fact as he literally climbs up onto the crowd using their hands and walks directly into the centre of the crowd before doing handstands on top of them then returning, sending one of his friends out surfing on an inflatable flamingo all the way around the proximity of the tent, the show drew a huge crowd all of which from what I could tell left extremely amused and satisfied.
Heart of a Coward [8] I’ve been a fan of for quite a while but this is the first time I have seen them without their original frontman Jamie Graham which was the whole reason I got into the band to start with. I was extraordinarily impressed with their new guy Kaan Tasan and his energy up on that stage, I’ll always prefer Grahams voice because for me he is one of the best British metal vocalists out there, but Tasan has done the old and new tracks an incredible justice. The amount of crowd surfers in this tent was something of sheer beauty and it was great to see british talent pulling that kind of crowd.
Godsmack [7] were to be completely honest not as good live as I was hoping they would be, to be honest I felt he had a bit of a James Hetfield thing going on which I wasn’t really a fan of, I mean on stage they had passion and energy but I wasn’t really feeling the vibe in which they were giving off, they played some good songs which I did enjoy and seemed to really enjoy themselves up there but, it just wasn’t as much as I would have wanted.
Black Peaks [8] are a band I was taken to see by my buddy Hobo, I had seen their name pop up from time to time but never really heard much in terms of music. They are one of the few bands that actually brought some pyro with them to the festival this year and it was very unexpected when it all suddenly hit. Their playing style is very little interaction focusing more on the music which normally isn’t really something that I enjoy but on this occasion their energy was enough to get through the whole thing.
Beartooth [8] I was looking forward to see and they did not disappoint at all, they really came at this hard and you could tell how much it means to them to be here. The crowd they pulled at this time in the day as well was extremely impressive, lots of raw energy, constant crowd engagement and interaction to really pull everything out of themselves and us that possibly could come out, what a good set.
Lamb of God [9] are champions of this genre, the scene and this festival. Everytime they come around they always leave fans in awe but also usually battered and bruised more than they’ve ever been in their lives. There was never going to be enough time in the set they were given to get out all of the songs that we all love because there are simply too many, only a headline set even stands a chance. However, we got the best of the best on this occasion; opening up with “Omerta” to a startlingly huge reaction, smashing through with “Laid To Rest”, “Now You’ve Got Something To Die For”, “Blackened the Cursed Sun”, “512” and finishing with hugely successful “Redneck” the one thing I was absolutely gutted about was we never got “Black Label” that would have made this the perfect set but, there just wasn’t time.
Smashing Pumpkins [6] are a band that I always hear about but only know one song by. I figured that I probably wouldn’t get a chance to see them again so I hung on and watched the show. I was disappointed to be honest because other than their trippy stage setup I didn’t feel they had much to offer me in terms of showmanship. There was extremely minimal crowd interaction, there was very little movement and that for me makes the show even if they did play their tracks flawlessly.
Slayer [10] put on their final ever UK set tonight, what has pissed me off more than anything was that they had this set clashing with Tool, I mean… of all the bands they could have clashing here, could they not have put them where Smashing Pumpkins were on the main stage? Could they not have been on Def Leppard night? Or under Slipknot? No they had to be on the same time as a band I’ve waited 13 years to see. Anyway, ignoring that, the half an hour I did watch was just Slayer at their all time best, the best of their stage shows, enough raw energy to believe they were all still in their 20’s and fantastic music. There will never be another Slayer, we will miss ya lads.
Tool [10] are everything I could have ever hoped for and more, unsurprisingly the minute the lights go out the smell of weed is just everywhere, I mean if there was a band this weekend that it was going to be it was always going to be these guys wasn’t it? It’s easy to see why with the way that their stage setup was with the screens and the was that the imagery wasn’t repeated on the ones either side but stretched through the ones on the main stage into the other. The imagery that graced all these screens was just unexplainable, fetuses growing out of heads and pyramids pulsating in the desert it was as if the band needn’t have even been there. This is a time where audience participation and interaction really doesn't matter to the show because of the sheer impressive amount of work put into the visuals and honestly hearing “Vicarious” live has been one of the best moments of my life.

The Disconnect is Heart of a Coward's fourth full length album and the first to feature frontman Kaan Tasan. Once again, sound engineers Justin Hill (recording) and Will Putney (mixing and mastering) were involved to make it a roaring success. The writing process for The Disconnect was long and gradual, with initial work beginning in 2017. Forming the album started with rough instrumental ideas being pieced together - Steve Haycock, guitarist recalled, "The Disconnect was not an easy process to begin with after such an extended hiatus, but once the wheels started rolling it was business as usual. Discussing the more conceptual aspects of the record, Chris Mansbridge, drummer commented, "The Disconnect refers to the feeling of a complete lack of control over your surroundings and the powers that control your life. It’s the feeling of hopelessness, anger and an inability to relate to the world you live in. Its a record we are all extremely proud of and this marks the next chapter of Heart of a Coward.”
