My top 25 Digimon Adventure Tri moments (in no particular order except the 1st)
I really need to bring these in order, but since I’ve reblogged this beautiful post, I might as well post my favourite Tri moments compilation right now. Will definitely look for more screenshots in the future too.
Jyou punching Dark Gennai. I'm getting excited just thinking about it, it's SO satisfying.
Tumblr media
Taichi's flashback on Koushirou calling him out with them being framed as rain vs sun - that is such a good analogy right there from a cinematic point of view, even if it's just so subtle and there isn't a lot of emphasis on it, but it IS what lets Taichi snap out of his paralysis after all. It basically implied that Koushirou was “the sun” Taichi needed to move on (even though he himself usually is “the sun” for everyone else).
Tumblr media
As painful as it is - Sora's breakdown and Taichi telling her that her selflessness is one of her good traits, making her say the "Don't say things Piyomon would say" in return. Like, it HURTS, it FEELS dysfunctional, but in all actuality, it shows how much they DO understand each other. Literal hedgehog's dilemma.
The Jyoumi honesty scene. As much of a retcon as it is overall, I love that they're honest with each other without hiding behind masks.
Tumblr media
That split-second of Kou standing in front of that kimono with Tentomon and Piyomon in his bag - next to the Koura phone scene (where the set-up is nice, but there's just too much second hand embarrassment there), I just love the potential behind it.
Tumblr media
The "Don't push yourself so much" Taishirou-scene, which will forever live rent-free in my head.
Tumblr media
The Taikoura donut scene. It's stupidly cute, even if it isn't much.
The Meikeru scene in which she says it's nice to see Takeru and Yamato getting along despite their parents being divorced, it's actually very endearing to have such a gentle moment there out of the blue.
Kou's mentor moment towards Takeru. "So you just want to forget? It's not about what you couldn't do, it's about what you WILL do." THAT IS MY BOY.
Tumblr media
Takeru then trying his best to approach Meiko after being inspired by Koushirou (as mentioned above) in the exact same way is also an amazing follow-up.
In addition to the former entry, Koushirou’s "I'M AGAINST THIS, I WILL FIND A SOLUTION!" scene in the last movie, when everyone had already accepted the reboot as only solution, was a pretty nice “main character moment” for him.
Tumblr media
The Meimi hug scene, with Meiko FINALLY coming out of her shell and being the one who reassures Mimi for once. THAT WAS A GREAT SET-UP.
Tumblr media
A summary of every "SoMi being lovely towards one another" scene. There are just too many to count (special mention goes to the amazing Jyourami rescue scene in the fourth movie!!!).
Kou rescuing Taichi from getting strangled by Yamato in the fifth movie. Classic.
Sora's "don't close yourself off, being lonely makes a thorn grow in your heart, I was like that too" quote in the fifth movie, WHICH HURTS, BECAUSE IT COULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT SET-UP FOR HER TOO.
Tumblr media
Taichi's "Shimane's the one without computers" shade comment, with Yamato's stupid "That was a million years ago" response, which is peak Tsundere.
Tentocat nuzzling into Kou's side. Ugh. (Also probably all the cheesy AguTento moments.)
Taichi saying that they should not judge Jyou, "If we approached him now, he might have to face things he doesn't want to." Mature!Taichi ftw, even if that wasn't the overall best approach, it still showed his progress. He HAD to face the painful things in the end.
Hikari's comment on Plotmon after the reboot, implying that there are certain things she’d better not remember (alluding to everything she went through during her time under Vamdemon up until watching Wizarmon die). I didn't think they would go there, but they did and that was both heartbreaking, but still amazing.
Yamato's reaction towards Meiko's Ghost Story, completely losing it there - and the shade he got from Takeru for it. Good boy.
Mimi actually kissing Meiko on the cheek. Groundbreaking.
Yamato's peak closet moment (he had at least three) being the "if we don't have to form Omegamon anymore, that'll make it easier for you too, right?", including the blushing.
Tumblr media
Taichi affirming Meiko that Koushirou is researching the whole infection issue “with all his heart” will also live rent-free in my head forever.
The farewell scene between Taichi and Daigo (probably being the 64728th Evangelion reference in these movies, but I’ll bite, I liked that one).
Also all the housewife!Gomamon scenes (that compliment the housewife!Tentomon scenes).

Kizuna Thoughts
All below spoiler cut! (Also if you’re having trouble finding the leaked sub release, send me a message and I’ll point you the right direction!)
OKAY from what I’d heard about this movie I expected worse, although I do get why people didn’t like it. Overall, I enjoyed a lot about it, while some of the other stuff I’m seriously meh about. So I think likes and dislikes bullet points is the way to go!
LIKES • I love the coordination between the main ‘teams’; Taichi, Yamato, and Koushirou working as a group with Takeru and Hikari as their own related team, and the 02 kids staying coordinated as a group with communication back and forth with the main team. I love that! I love the relationships and the strategy. • Taichi and Yamato’s character arcs were good in this; I didn’t feel like they were rehashing too much of Tri, but just the next step of it. I also love that they were very much on the same side together instead of fighting the whole time. Them being bros commiserating at the restaurant was great. • Yamato in general was just badass this movie; tailing the agent, coming through with the burner phones, coordinating the 02 group, putting the pieces together about as fast as Koushirou, etc. Super good Yamato character stuff. • Koushirou was glorious as always and I like that some of his Tri development was touched on again, especially in refusing to give up just because he’s told one situation inevitable (the real-world reboot in Tri, and the partnership end in Kizuna.) Also enjoyed the secret, behind the back text to Taichi; that was pretty awesome. • Parts of this movie were genuinely tense, like the scene with Kou and Menoa in Kou’s office, or when Yamato’s trying to find Takeru and runs into the agent (I’ve forgotten his name and it’s fake anyway who cares) sitting on the staircase with a gun. • The fight scenes, especially the last one, were absolutely gorgeous. • THE WHISTLE OMG • So many fun cameos! Meiko, Catherine, Wallace, and others were either briefly shown or mentioned in Kou’s list of chosen, and those callbacks were nice. Although honestly until they showed Meiko I wasn’t actually sure if Kizuna was Tri-compliant or not. • The tech upgrades (their communication devices, the phones working as digivices, Taichi’s prototype googles he and Kou bicker about in the opening) were really cool.
I’m sure there’s plenty more I’m missing and will come back to on a rewatch, but for now onto the dislikes.
DISLIKES • Okay, I’ll admit it, I like the Taichi, Yamato, and Koushirou show. But still WHERE WAS EVERYONE ELSE??? Maybe not the 02 kids (including Hikari and Takeru) because they did get some time, but Mimi and Jyou were seriously underused, and I legit forgot Sora was a character for awhile. WTF. • In that vein, aside from Hikari briefly in the beginning, Miyako was the only one of the girls to get to really do anything. She was great, but... Come on... • Did they REALLY make the dark haired agent the good guy and the red haired woman the villain AGAIN? And not just that, but the red haired woman villain LOST HER DIGIMON? No one went ‘wow this plot feels familiar’? I was honestly hoping that the red herring villain agent was ACTUALLY the real threat this time and Menoa was genuinely good because that would’ve been a way bigger shock. • I mentioned this already but it deserves its own bullet: WHERE WAS SORA? I saw the little short where she talked about not fighting, but I figured it would be something touched on a little more as some sort of mini character arc in Kizuna and not just her sitting out the whole movie. What was the point of that? It was just a strange choice. • I’m not sure how I feel about the ending. I’d heard it was ambiguous, and so honestly I expected it to end when we saw the two butterflies fly away, but then there was more and it felt... Unnecessary, I guess? I dunno. I mean, if this is epilogue compliant we know we see Agumon and Gabumon again, so it just seems kind of pointless to end it as a cliffhanger. Maybe they’re just setting up for another movie? • Related to the first point, but this movie felt pretty imbalanced not just for character screen time but for their roles. I mean, Tri just put all that effort into getting everyone on the same level, and now Yamato and Taichi have a new evolution and it’s just weird. Like I get that the plot was primarily focused on them this movie, but I guess I don’t quite get why it was so heavily focused on them. Even Tri balanced it out a bit better, although I know to be fair Kizuna was only one movie.
Okay I think those are my main thoughts for now; I’m gonna go read other posts and see what people say and also I think there’s a novelization I’ll try and track down.
Overall good movie with some genuinely interesting character dynamics, plots, and scenes, but could’ve been very much improved with more balanced focuses and not reusing the exact same overall villain/villain motivations from Tri.

Okay to briefly go over the Psi VA announcements and the trailer-
I don’t have much to say, I absolutely love how some of the scenes in Taichi’s apartment complex have this aesthetic/look to them that really reminds me of Episode 21. It’s nice and nostalgic and I love that a lot- though in contrast the Internet looks really... IDK the difference between the two gives me whiplash. It’s not bad it’s just super different?
Looking at it again it kinda looks like the dungeon areas in Cyber Sleuth actually? Which is kinda neat, but yeah in the trailer I feel like the difference between the Human World and the Internet is a bit much, but who knows it might just feel like that in the trailer, it could be better in the actual show
As for the VA annuncements
I’M SO HAPPY the Digimon VAs are back to reprise their roles!! I’m so happy okay ;_; It would’ve been so sad if Sakamoto Chika hadn’t returned, not to mention the others... I am sad Tailmon’s VA couldn’t return, I can only hope the best for her new VA
I will admit I am really sad Hiroaki Hirata isn’t back as the narrator, but having our beloved badass Masako Nozawa as the Narrator ain’t bad at all. I love her so much, I’m glad to have her here
As for the Chosen VAs, I am happy that a few of the VAs are kind of Digimon Veterans, Taichi, Yamato, Sora, Jyou and Takeru all being voiced by people who had worked in the franchise before. Like it wasn’t nececary but it’s nice
I don’t have much to comment there, I do find it hilarious how Takeru, the character known for being recast a million times, gets to keep his previous voice actor (Megumi Han). That’s just hilarious to me okay
And Yamato being voiced by Daisuke Namikawa is extremely cursed and I hate that very much. Y’all might remember him as Daigo in tri., but I will always associate his voice with fucking Hisoka from Hunter x Hunter, and if you don’t know anything about HxH, let’s just say that character is really fucking cursed okay
(Also people who did watch HxH 2011 will find it hilarious because Megumi Han voiced Gon. We literally have Hisoka and Gon as Yamato and Takeru THAT’S SO CURSED)

When I finished Digimon Adventure Tri, I wrote down my reaction and I just realized that I never actually posted it. I thought someone might find it entertaining, so here it is (contains spoilers):
---
Okay, I finally finished Digimon Adventure Tri.
I am so bewildered by what kind of message I’m supposed to take from it. Like, maybe...
-Sometimes it’s okay to abandon your friend to die if you need to go save the world.
-If your friend goes nuts and tries to destroy the world, sometimes the best thing to do is kill them.
-Sometimes you need to accept that your friend has been sacrificed for the good of the world. If you try to save them, you’ll just wind up losing your mind and going to hell.
-It really is okay to fight battles with giant monsters in the real world, as long as you do it over open water where there aren’t as many buildings to crush. Fuck bridges.
-You don’t want to be a child soldier? Suck it up. Your fate’s been decided. If you wimp out, the world will end.
I’m not saying I hate it. The quality of the writing and animation was...uh. It could have been worse? They did do a few interesting things. They just didn’t really...follow up on them well.
I’m just really, really confused by what exactly the point of it was. The plot felt  very incoherent.
Also, the very subdued or lacking facial expressions were distracting as hell in a show which relied a lot on meaningful staring.
It was also pretty damn disappointing to bait us with the Digimon Emperor and references to the 02 kids and then not give us anything more than their shadows. That is some bullshit.
Plus, the other digidestined not knowing or caring where they were, or asking them for help, or being a little more concerned that Ichijouji-san seems to have gone insane again was...frankly, too unbelievable. You’d expect that one of the first things they would think is, “Hey, we need more firepower. Let’s go get Daisuke and Ken so we can have Imperialdramon!”
My review is: W for Weird. It could have been worse, but it also could have been way, way better. 01 and 02 were far superior, as was the Digimon movie (or the first two, if you prefer watching the Japanese versions)
It was better than nothing, for sure. It was nice to see these characters again and at least nothing they did felt too out of character. There were a few nice things:
*Takeru holding a suffering Patamon comes to mind
*Yamato weeping into Gabumon’s arms over Taichi’s “death” and choosing to take up the leadership (omg Gabumon’s little speech was so precious)
*Hikari reflecting on her unique bond with her brother and losing her shit with him gone (and Takeru telling her to get it together, haha)
*Mimi and Jyou bonding
*Koushirou generally being a badass and people cleaning up after Koushirou and trying to keep him from neglecting basic needs
*Sora calling everyone up to check on them
*Taichi and Yamato trying to be good friends to their moody friend Sora
*The digimon making some pretty heavy decisions on their own (wow shit got dark. I teared up, no lie)
*Taichi feeling unprepared to deal with the consequences of fighting huge battles in the real world where they could kill people (for a little while. That dragged on for so long that it began to feel implausible, too)
*Takeru being unable to remember the name of Yamato’s band LOL
*Yamato being offended that Gabumon didn’t win the creepy cute contest AHAHA FAVE
*The reversal from the first season of the digidestined greeting and interacting with their partners when those partners knew nothing about them and didn’t expect them. I see what you did there (especially with Sora and Biyomon, that was kinda brilliant)
*memory-less Gabumon acting like a shy girl with a crush around Yamato (and Taichi being like HEY WHERE’S MY HONORIFIC?)
*Jyou feeling like shit about himself bc of his grades but then feeling better when his digimon achieves a higher evolution
*The swimming scene. Taichi can’t make it, so Yamato tries to carry him, but ultimately Taichi drags him down. So they start to drown together. But then their Digimon come, and their will is renewed! SYMBOLIC.
Conclusion: Digimon Adventure Tri is worth a watch if 1. You don’t get your hopes up too high, and 2. You watch it in conjunction with the Digimon Adventure Tri stage play, which helps to flesh out the emotional underpinnings. Wondering what we’re supposed to be taking away from all the anime’s blank staring? The stage play lays it out for you. After I watched the stage play, I was able to enjoy the anime a lot more. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend checking out Onkei’s subtitled download link here. If you like it, please consider buying the official dvd to show the creators support. Who knows, maybe they’ll make another one?

How would be your ranking between the 12 digidestined of Adventure and 02?
As in who I like most?
Gosh this is super hard to answer but I’ll do my best.
Okay so Taichi, Yamato, Jyou, Mimi and Koushiro are basically all tied for first. I love watching all of these five so much.
But if I had to pick an order I would say:
1. Taichi. I like Taichi the most because I feel he has the most depth to his character and he is the most enjoyable to analyze. He also has a really big range of emotions completely on his own and doesn’t necessarily need to interact with other characters in order to bring out those emotions. I think you could make a whole series about what’s going on in this characters head. In my opinion he has the biggest range as a character in terms of what he does, the emotions he has, the possibilities for his reactions to situations and his growth as a character
2. Yamato. Again Yamato ranks high for his depth as a character. Although I think his personality and reactions are slightly more influenced by those he is around and I don’t think his mind would be as complex as Taichi’s. However, he is still an incredibly interesting character with a huge range. He is my favourite character to pair up with the rest of the kids in my head because I feel like his personality is more influenced by the people he is around. Every chosen child would bring out a slightly different side to Yamato which could be really fun to explore, while most of the other characters tend to stay the same more or less no matter who they are with.
3. Mimi. I remember watching Digimon Tri with one of my friends and literally every time Mimi came on screen I was like “I love Mimi so much” to the point where I think he started getting really annoyed with me. There is literally not a single scene in Tri that I do not love her in. She is so cute and fun. Also I relate very heavily to this character as I am also someone who is very honest with my words to the point where I often offend people without realizing it. And I often do things I want to do regardless of how other people feel. I love Mimi because she is a well written female character who is girly but also has many other aspects to her character, also I really genuinely enjoy that she is just very pure hearted.
4. Koushiro. Koushiro is just awesome. He’s such a badass, he literally solves like all of the problems. Also he is really cute and I like that he is socially awkward and super polite to the point where he still uses sufixes even though he’s known these people for like half his life.
5. Jyou. Jyou is great and I really enjoy him but he has less moments that make me go “fuck yeah this character is the best” than the previous four. But when he does have those moments they leave me having to pause the video and freak out for several minutes. Of all the Chosen Children he is the only one that I couldn’t possibly understand someone not liking him. He has flaws like any other character but how can you not love him after he throws himself into danger on a regular basis to protect his comrades!
Hikari, Daisuke and Ken all all tied for second place but if I had to rank them:
6. Hikari. This character has a lot of flaws. Many of which are the same flaws that make me dislike Sora. However I’m very biased in favour of her because I just think she is absolutly adorable and I really love her in both films directed by Mamoru Hosoda, especially the first film that acted like a pilot to the series. I also really like her relationship with Taichi. When I was a kid and I was watching the series for the first time I was unbelievably happy to find out Taichi had a younger sister. I’m biased because I have an older brother who means the absolute world to me, he is the most precious person in my life and always will be so I have a huge soft spot for brother/sister relationships in fiction. However I will say that I was disappointed with her character in both 02 and now Tri, I don’t like the way she makes fun of Daisuke and Takeru.
7. Daisuke. I didn’t like any of the 02 kids as a child but as an adult Daisuke has really grown on me. I love that he beats Malomyotismon by just being genuinely happy with his life. Ilove how he always tried to make people feel better even if he has no idea why they are upset and doesn’t know them very well but god damn it if he ain’t going to get all up in your business until you reveal your entire life story to him lol. I also love the scene in Hurricane Touchdown when he cries because they might have to kill somone’s partner digimon. He’s also genuinely funny a lot of the time especially in the Revenge of Diablomon film
8. Ken. I enjoy Ken as the digimon emperor, where he’s kinda whiny and also sort of insane but also really smart and he is just a lot of fun to watch. I also think his plans are very interesting. But I also like him when he starts working with the group. I think his shyness is really cute and I think he’s shy in a totally different way then Yamato which is nice.
Honestly though I love Daisuke and Ken the most whenever they are together. I’d say they are my second favourite pair in Digimon behind Yamato and Taichi. Though unlike Yamato and Taichi I don’t ship Daisuke with Ken romantically.
9. Miyako. I like the fact that Miyako is both a girly girl who admires Mimi but is also techy and admires Koushiro. I’m not a fan of her as one of the Chosen Children simply because I feel there are too many Chosen Children and it would be nicer to have less main characters so that everyone gets more development. However I think she would make a really fantastic side character. Honestly I have an AU where she’s Mimi’s sister :P
10. Sora. I’m not a fan of Sora but I don’t hate her either. I like that she is the mom of the group and that she thinks of others before herself but I already talked a lot about the reasons dislike her in my confession regarding her and Takeru which I linked when I talked about Hikari above.
Takeru and Iori are tied for last place but if I had to rank them:
11. Takeru takes eleventh place because I grew up with him and have fond childhood memories of him unlike Iori who I disliked along with all the 02 kids when I was a child. Now though I find him dull and annoying. See my confession for more details
12. Iori. I have learned to appreciate aspects of his character over the years, Mainly his character development from being unforgiving of people who have committed crimes to becoming a defense attorney. See my thoughts on the Chosen Children’s careers for more details. But overall I still find him the most uninteresting of all the kids.

Soushitsu Reaction (per episode)
Posting below the cut, just to be safe
Episode 14
- My theory about Daigo and Maki being the OG Chosen was so right. But that entire scene was a giant clusterfuck. I couldn’t tell you what the fuck was going on other than the fact that it appeared they got their asses handed to them by the Dark Masters and then Maki’s partner disappeared (died?)
- The train tracks and the cart. The nostalgia. The reunion is so cute. Yamato acting as if he wasn’t excited to see Tsunomon again made me laugh. Poor Sora tried so hard to reconnect with Yokomon. Now my heart hurts.
- Daddy Jou is back and all about finding something to eat and somewhere to sleep.
- Mimi appears and fakes tears (i think) and is super optimistic about how they’ll return home. Such character development, I’m shook.
- Taichi chases after Meicoomon when she appears. WHAT A GOOD BOY.
- Nostalgia kicks in again ‘cause it’s lunch time. Mimi is real slick with that comment about Sora’s future husband. Koushiro my dear child is so adorable with his rant about oolong tea. Motimon cutting him off to remind him to eat before Tokomon does is so typical. I laughed.
- Poor Sora looks so lonely without Yokomon
- Then we have Taichi unsure of what to do about the Meicoomon thing and he has a flashback to her demon mode (meicrackmon is such an ugly name I don't want to use it). Yamato reminds him that Meiko is one of them and walks off like geesh he really doesn’t cut that man any slack lmao.
- Taichi and Agumon have a moment and I want to die because it’s so damn cute.
- Sora goes to bat with the lil’ brat Yokomon again and loses and my heart hurts again because Sora doesn’t deserve this.
- Back to the debate about what to do next, everyone is upset that the reboot may have been for nothing since Meicoomon wasn’t affected. Taichi finally recovers his role as leader and is resolved to reunite his friends. Everyone is on board as well. Yay ~~
- The Digimon are now adults. I’m a little disappointed since they were following nostalgia to a T and the little rainbow light striking them would’ve really just nailed it.
15
- Biyomon is still being a brat even in adult form
- Flashback of mini Mei’s, how cute. But i still understand nothing about their partnership other than the fact that Meiko keeps Meicoomon’s demon side under wraps
- Taichi returns from looking for distortions and I’m just wondering how the hell he missed the giant purple coming from Meicoomon.
- Mimi has her cell phone and this is new and kind of weird to see
- Takeru calls Meiko hopeless and Hikari teases him. Yay Takari??
- Lmao  Takeru is still saying he loves Yamato the most and Yamato is blushing after Taichi calls him out
- Sora is so upset and it continues to chip away at my heart
- That Taiorato scene…yikes. That was a golden opportunity to distinguish boyfriend from best friend and Toei completely fucked it up. I'm irritated. Taichi is her best friend and an idiot so him being oblivious is normal. I’m not even a shippy person but Yamato and Sora are supposedly end game so I feel like that scene should have gone down differently. Like the whole clenching his fist and staying quiet and looking to Taichi for help. WHAT WAS THAT. And then asking if they should ask Takeru with her right there (I get it was with good intentions but...) ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME. THAT’S YOUR FUTURE WOMAN. COMFORT HER. That was some horribly shitty writing.
- Then Meicoomon ruins that oh-so-sweet moment  just as Mugendramon appears in a flash of light. Like literally what. the fuck. I dead ass expected Meiko to appear instead because it looked like the gate had opened. Nope, just a Dark Master here to fuck things up again
- We’re back to the real world and Daigo is finally figuring shit out. Unsurprisingly, Maki is shady and is working with Yggdrasil and used Meicoomon to cause the reboot so she could see her dead partner again. I get it, but how selfish can you be? There’s a super cute flashback to teenage Daigo/Maki and Daigo is SMOOTH ASF with that partner line as he comforts Maki. Like shit, please teach Taichi and Yamato your ways.
- Back in the Digi World the gang is reunited and they call for their partners to Digivolve and the Digimon are like ????
- They’re blasted by Mugendramon and i’m over here like how tf did they survive. Then it’s revealed a distortion appeared and saved them all, but they’re all separated without their right partner
- Biyomon is back to being a brat and makes Sora cry - there goes another part of my heart. Then they find Meiko and i’m just like wtf is she Houdini now??
- The others are in other parts of the world and the nostalgia is real. I swear Toei’s goal was ‘how much nostalgia can we fit in one movie’
16
- Meiko = mountain/country girl = good at making fires
- Biyomon is only being nice to Meiko. What. A. Brat.
- Mimi and Tentomon make a good name-calling team
- Yamato and Koushiro are the dream team lmao. Koushiro showing the digimon pictures of their adventures in the real world warmed my heart. Agumon questioning Yamato about Taichi was priceless. ALSO LETS JUST STAND HERE UNTIL THE TRAIN IS INCHES AWAY FROM US AND THEN JUMP. Like how could let that happen Koushiro, you’re smarter than this.
- Taichi is being gloomy because he doesn’t know what they are to their partners anymore and Hikari is like ‘nah just accept them for how they are now because for Plotmon, it’s better this way.’ So wise beyond your years, Hikari.
- More cut scenes. Takeru is in primary village getting patched up by our good pal Elecmon. Again, nostalgia.
- Hackmon is filling in Daigo. He’s on the good side aka Homeostatis. We learn that Gennai has dabbled with the darkness and he refers to Meicoomon as libra (I think) because ANOTHER MYSTERY IS JUST WHAT WE NEED AT THIS POINT
- We’re back to Sora and Meiko. Sora is depressed once again and doesn’t know what to do to fix things. Meiko throws her words back at her and i’m screaming because she’s SUCH A GOOD GIRL.
- Meicoomon appears and is pissed and starts attacking like WUT. Meiko is cool asf and is like ‘yes, you’re bad but i’m also bad for abandoning you i’ll never do that again.’
- Dark Gennai appears in Ken form and is all like hi let’s play. He’s reveals he is on the side of Yggdrasil. Meicoomon says bye and goes after Mugendramon but is tossed aside like she’s nothing and falls into DGs hands. Sora shows up all queen-like and throws rocks. DG tackles her and feels her up for her DigiVice (also, what the FUCK was the unnecessary licking, i’m disgusted Toei). Dumb and Dumber (i apologize, I’m still very salty about the previous episode) show up to save Sora just in time. Everyone is reunited due to the distortions and Gennai reveals even more information - Yggdrasil doesn’t want the two species interacting and wants to destroy the Human world. Unsurprisingly, the Chosen have played into Yggrasil’s plan accordingly, and honestly, i’m so over it. They couldn’t have come up with anything better??
- They’re about to be blasted away and Plotmon becomes a total badass and allows them to escape to a boat of all places
- DG finds them easily and Dumb and Dumber along with Hikari come up with the genius plan to let themselves be decoys while the others escape. DG is like HA YOU THOUGHT and sends MetalSeadramon to play. Nice going, guys.
- Back on the boat, Sora and Meiko are still there. Biyomon finally comes to her senses and realizes what a beautiful soul Sora is and i’m soaring
- The Chosen are on the run and DG is still babbling nonsense. JYOU FUCKING TACKLES HIM AND I’M CACKLING. HOLY SHIT THAT JUST MADE THIS MOVIE FOR ME. The digimon are ruthless asf and attack him one after the other - it’s fantastic.
- We see Maki temporarily reunite with Tapirmon and she’s pissed he doesn’t remember her. Like girl what did you think would happen??
- Back in the water Dumb and Dumber are fighting with MetalSeadramon and then they disappear under water after protecting Agumon and Gabumon. They have the MOST GAY MOMENT OFF ALL TIME as they swim towards the surface. Then they’re out of oxygen but somehow are having a conversation with their partners. Agumon and Gabumon save them AND THEY CHEAT US THE EVOLUTION SCENE AGAIN. Plotmon evolves to save Hikari and it’s beautiful.
- MSD is defeated and scene cuts to Sora returning to the others. DG escapes and disappears. Mugendramon goes after Biyomon, Sora jumps on to get her back. While Sora gets pummeled into the wall the two bond and it’s beautiful and Biyomon evolves. PHOENIXMON IS SO MAJESTIC.
- Cut scene to Meiko being cornered by DG and him being a creepy bastard again.
- Back to the action, the two attack, Sora gets knocked off AND JYOU COMES TO THE RESCUE AGAIN. Then all of a sudden, Patamon wants to fight so he evolves and we finally see Seraphimon. Next is Tentomon and now it’s overkill and i’m not happy with the way this played out either. Like them wanting to fight is seriously what triggered their evolution? What. The. Hell.
- Meiko is being strangled by DG to trigger Meicoomon’s evolution. He says some pretty harsh stuff to her. Like geez, yeah she’s not exactly the best partner but to say she should’ve never been born? Rude asf.
- Mugendramon is defeated and everyone is ecstatic because they still have a bond. Jyou is smug even though Gomamon didn’t evolve lmao what a cutie. Sora forgives Dumb and Dumber after they apologize (+10 points) but I’m still aggravated by the whole ordeal
- The world shakes and we see Meicoomon in demon form and the movie ends with DG laughing manically with Meiko passed out
Gotta say that overall I really wasn’t impressed. Confession was pretty hard to follow up with but…this? This was not what I expected at all. I’m pretty disappointed but there’s still two more movies so my fingers are crossed that it’ll get better from here.

I know I keep saying 2020!Taichi is like the embodiment of Sailor Moon (and probably also every shounen protagonist trope ever?), but when we talked in discord about which Chosen Child would be which Sailor Soldier... It got really difficult at times?
Taichi:
First choice: Usagi/Moon (main character, inspiring and bringing everyone together, first to receive a power update, saves the day in the end, loved and adored by everyone, protective af, heroic and self sacrificing, will kick your ass, can be a lovable dork/knucklehead, loves to eat, lives with a cat)
Second choice: Minako/Venus (sporty and competitive leader, sometimes riddled by insecurities even if nobody notices, ALSO lives with a cat)
Yamato:
First choice: Rei/Mars (when we’re talking 90s anime, it’s the fact that they’re both butting heads with the main character and being just very easy to get to explode in certain situations; when we’re talking Crystal/Eternal, it’s about them being somewhat cynical, but also somewhat mysterious and aloof)
Second choice: ??? (probably if you mixed Seiya and Yaten together??? Maybe Haruka/Uranus in terms of how they oppose the main character at some point and question their leadership abilities)
Sora:
First choice: Makoto/Jupiter (kind mom-type with a heart of gold, trying to embrace their more feminine side while simultaneously being badass as hell and could kick your ass at any given moment, can also be silly, loves to cook, complicated relationship with love, despite being very loving)
Second choice: Rei/Mars (fiery passion, ready to jump and shout for those they love, symbolized by a phoenix)
Koushirou:
First choice: Ami/Mercury (strategist of the group, uses a computer/technology to figure out weakpoints of the enemy, kind and gentle nerd, can be silly as well, eager to learn, main character is basically their first real friend)
Second choice: Makoto/Jupiter (element of lightning, kind, protective when it comes to the ones important to them, loss of biological parents)
Mimi:
First choice: Minako/Venus (passionate and loving, fierce and ready to fight you, longs to have a comfortable, happy life for themselves and others, probably has had world domination dreams here and there, tends to gets puns/sayings wrong)
Second choice: Usagi/Moon (highly empathetic, cries for the pain of others and would also fight for their sake, not the best cook in the world, but tries her best)
Jyou:
First choice: Setsuna/Pluto (supportive in the back most of the time IF time allows for them to be there, soft spot for the youngest of the group, the tallest/oldest, sacrifices themselves for the sake of others)
Second choice: Ami/Mercury (has an affinity to study, wants to become a doctor, blue hair, element of water)
Takeru:
First choice: Chibi-Usa/Chibi-Moon (youngest of the group, wants to prove themselves and is ridden by insecurities at times, somewhat of a crybaby at first who grows into a strong fighter, gentle yet cheeky, holds tremendous powers nobody suspects at once)
Second choice: ??? (probably still Hotaru/Saturn, when we talk about how the power of darkness makes him go apeshit)
Hikari:
First choice: Hotaru/Saturn (possessed by another entity, seems to possess supernatural powers, prone to sickness yet holds tremendous powers that will be the key to defeat the enemy once their true powers awaken, soft and gentle but will sass and fight you if you hurt the ones they love, main character wants to rescue them, a good relationship with the youngest of the group)
Second choice: Chibi-Usa/Chibi-Moon (related to main character, pink colour scheme, same voice actress in Japanese version)
Does that even make sense?

This is so random but like I need Jyou and Yamato to be best friends. I headcanon these two to have like the greatest Bromance ever.
And you know what else I want, I want these two to team up with each other and go fuck some enemies up. Why does Yamato always have to team up with Taichi? You can’t tell me that these two couldn’t make an awesome combo.
Like in Reunion, after the bridge scene, I so wanted Yamato to just call Jyou up and be like “so it looks like I have a vacancy in the ‘dude I team up with to get shit done’ department, you want the job” and I don’t know why but I keep fantasizing about a rewriting of the scene where Yamato confronts Daigo and Maki in Confession where Jyou is there with him.
I just want these two to go out and be badasses together because Jyou is that guy who is shy and awkward until you mess with one of his friends and then he’s all business and going out being a knight in shinning armor, and Yamato is that guy who acts all cool but really he’s just as shy and awkward as Jyou and he will also fuck anyone up who tries to lay a hand on his friends and I swear to god these two are just made for each other.
Please Toei satisfy my Jyou x Yamato Bromance shipping heart!!
