ships and jokes aside, there's something beautiful about this scene from the 3.4 trailer. it reflects Liyue's progress as a nation, and the growth of her three visionary leaders.
the first Lantern Rite was all about learning why it's hosted. the second Lantern Rite was after the events of Beisht, and we are shown the traits of the trio that make them fit to lead the nation. the fireworks are a reward for the people and themselves.
but this... this is the first Lantern Rite where the three leaders just stand together within the harbour, side by side, admiring the peace they've fought bitterly to protect.
Shenhe's first experience of humanity in Liyue was kindness, care, love, determination, strength of will - the traits embodied by Keqing, Ningguang, Beidou.
in their hands, Liyue will prosper.

little reminder that there will be days when you hold up your writing to the internet, so very proud of what you've created, and no one will stop long enough to say anything. you'll go days and weeks and maybe months without a single word. it's devastating.
but that doesn't mean your creation is worthless. that just means it hasn't yet reached the people it was written for.
it could be time, place, anything that stops someone from finding your work just when you release it.
but what's most important is - every story is written for someone out there. and when that person finds it, your story will touch them in ways nothing else can.
there are billions and billions of people out there. so write, write for the person your story is meant to reach. keep writing and keep sharing.
and someday your words will reach the ones who need it the most. <3

so. i like to consider myself a writer, and i recently started working in the corporate sector.
i've had my writing, style and everything from emails to narratives shot down and i've been forced to rewrite them over and over. they suggest I use chatgpt to get it right.
when i finally give up and do run my own written words through chatgpt, the output is approved and sent on with little amendments needed.
it kills me inside, to think an AI easily achieves what i've been trying to understand and still can't. i don't know what to think.
is it that corporate writing is soulless enough for an AI to achieve with little effort, or is it that i simply am unable to write across tones and styles, so much so that an AI can do it better?
where does that leave me?

Theoretically you can severely mess with ai datasets if you put Lorem ipsum in white in every line break on ao3 fics cos the ai would just scrape it all, no?
would suck if the person was reading on dark mode tho 😭
#anti ai writing#im tired#i just want to write stuff#and if i could make a living out of it sure but ai shouldnt make a living out of our collective work damnit#justyuniethings

beidou's the kind of person who never updates her friends until she sees them. sometimes years can go by without a meetup. one day she visits her friends at port ormos with a mug of beer in hand, gets up on the stool and announces: "oh yeah, so I got married."
and her friends will be like, "WHAT?? YOU'RE MARRIED??"
and some will chuckle because she always pulls their leg like this. but this time beidou isn't laughing, and she says, "yeah, my wife got held up with business but she's on the way."
and the chuckles fade and everyone stares at her like "OH you're... you're not kidding...? who's insane enough to mar-"
then ningguang enters like "apologies, I'm late, dear."
and beidou's like, "no biggie, baobei!" in the most cheerful tone ever.
and everyone's jaws drop to the floor like hold up, beidou, you married the TIANQUAN????

a bored beidou leaves little notes all over the jade chamber for ningguang to find and smile at with cheesy lines like "light of my life", but she went overboard and now 6 months later ningguang is STILL finding new notes in the weirdest places. like in page 269 of the Liyue lawbook and in her nightdresses

One of my favourite authors, Melissa Marr, once said that she tries not to read any story of the same genre that she's writing on (research excluded).
So what I read is largely different from what I write. I'm writing mostly fantasy wlw (beiguang!!) and triads/mafias now, so I read short stories (due to my shitty attention span), sci-fi, and anything that isn't fantasy or gang-related.
The result is that what I read bleeds into what I write, helping to form new perspectives rather than influence perspectives, if that makes sense.
At the heart of all storytelling is the thematic narrative, and that can be translated into any genre, any plot, any character dynamic. It's just how the author presents it!
For e.g. afterglow's format was inspired by a completely irrelevant short story called Story of Your Life by Ted Chiang, a sci-fi oneshot about a linguist trying to understand aliens while coming to terms with the loss of her child.
Completely irrelevant, and yet it was the answer I needed to finally write a fic that's been stuck for the past few months.
Tagging anyone else who'd like to answer!
Storyteller Saturday Question:
tag list: @sassyglitterchaos @indigocastor @blue-swinger-1 @gwenwritesstuff and anyone else who'd like to answer! If you'd like to be added, just let me know!
Is there a difference between what you read and what you write? What do you think accounts for the similarity or difference?

beidou keeps up with ningguang in chess, a highly tactical game with layers of strategy, but wait it's not just chess, it's most likely Liyue Millennial, which 99% of Liyue can't figure out, and I don't think we give beidou enough credit for that-

Imagine beidou coming back to liyue to see ningguang obsessed with genius invokation tcg like: "oh no more chess? We playing cards now?"
"Regardless of the game's nature, captain, I assure you our agreement still stands."
"Heh."
