I know that SJM said that Rhys is probably the most powerful character she’s ever written. BUT, you cannot convince me that he is more powerful than Nesta.
Let’s look at the facts :
Nesta, who as a starving human woman, resisted a HIGH LORD’s glamour.
Nesta, whom the Bone Carver had heard of the moment she came out of the Cauldron because the whole world had felt it. Nesta, whose name is moaned by the wind. Nesta, who made the inmates of the Prison, literal monsters that people don’t know how to kill, shiver in fear and step away from their doors.
Nesta who twisted the King of Hybern’s neck like it was a party popper, with no training. Nesta who can wear and remove the mask at will (still after giving up most of her power), when no one had ever worn it and lived. Nesta who controls the entire Dread Trove, which has never been seen before. Nesta who has made an entire Trove herself, who can bring houses, bracelets and even still-born babies to LIFE.  Nesta who killed Lanthys, a presumably unkillable being. Nesta who killed a Daglan, a presumably unkillable being.
Nesta who is Mother-Blessed, who has a literal goddess watching over her when the gods had presumably left this world to its own devices.
Rhys almost passed out after winnowing too many people in ACOWAR. Rhys had to be carried to the top of Ramiel. Rhys died helping Feyre rebuild the Cauldron.
Whereas Nesta after not having eaten or drank for a week, after having climbed and fought to the top of Ramiel, being exhausted beyond words and still fighting Bellius, when confronted to Cassian stabbing himself, released her power which reduced the cottage she used to live in, on the other side of Prythian, to ashes.
And we are supposed to believe that Rhys is more powerful than this QUEEN!
Yes, Rhys is the most powerful High Lord in history.  But he is not the most powerful person in the world.
Which brings me to my next point : he knows that!
Or at least, he feels it. After reading HOFAS, it’s very likely that Nesta is starborn meaning that her and Rhys both come from Theia’s power. It’s pretty clear that Nesta is meant to be queen. After all, she has been called a queen in Every.Single.Book, including HOFAS. It’s pretty clear that she will be queen of Dusk.
Rhys is already High Lord (most likely going to become High King at some point, even if no one wants that). He has rarely met someone more powerful than he was. And since the land chooses its ruler, and since Nesta comes from the same line as him, she is a threat. Even if he fails to notice that she doesn't care about power in general and doesn’t even realize the extent of her own.
Rhys has a primal side to him even more potent than Cassian, the “Illyrian brute”. I’m going to give a very strange comparison because it involves dogs and something that happened with mine.
We were at my cousins’ and they both have dogs : an American staff and a pitbull. My dog is half staff himself. All males, very sweet but very dominant by nature.
Initially, it was just my dog and the staff who were fine but, funnily enough, tried to overpower each other by peeing everywhere, marking their territory where the other initially had.
Then my other cousin brought her pitbull. The pitbull and the staff knew each other well and played, far away from my dog. My dog had to be held because he was shaking and growling despite the other dogs not paying attention to him at all. Because he knew that they were more powerful and he was outnumbered. To the point where he didn’t see me anymore, being overconsumed by fear and even tried to bite my hand when I tried to calm him (he’s never done that before and had always been, and still is, the most loving dog ever).
This is what Rhys reminds me of, because there’s something animalistic about him despite the cool, controlled demeanor. Even Cassian said it.
He has threatened Nesta who avoids him and barely talks to him. The worst thing she ever said about him was that he was an arrogant, preening asshole. While he threatens her any chance he gets and thinks the worst of her.
Just like my dog in the story, Rhys doesn’t realize that Nesta doesn’t care. He is just threatened by her presence.
It’s not about letting Feyre hunt or rejecting Cassian. These are just excuses. It’s about someone more powerful than he is, in his own court, not kissing his feet.

Cassian looked over a shoulder, to where Nesta had been asleep for the past few hours, curled into a tight ball against the wall of rock. I think we’ll stay out here for a few days. We’re going to hike.
Nesta has never been on a hike in her life. I guarantee she will hate it.
Then tell Rhys this is her punishment.
ACOSF, page 488
My hands slackened at my sides. “You went after me,” I said. “You went after me-to Prythian.”
“I got to the wall. I couldn’t find a way through though.”
I raised a shaking hand to my throat. “You trekked two days there and two days back—through the winter woods?”

It's very sad that people can't see the glaring discrepancy between Nestha and, aside from Feyre and Elain, the entire Inner Circle. Only Rhysand is 538 years old now, Amren is goodness knows how many, and yet they are the biggest aggressors towards Nestha - and Cassian, her "mate," isn't far behind. In theory, they should be more mature and understanding towards Nestha, they should understand what's happening with her and why she's acting that way at the beginning of Silver Flames, attacking everyone, drinking excessively, and throwing herself into bed with anyone without caring, when they know Nestha was raised to find a good husband. They should do it especially after portraying themselves as such enlightened creatures when Feyre was in a similar situation. But no. Instead, with Nestha, it's just violence, mostly psychological, bordering on physical when Cassian decides to "teach her a lesson," or when Rhysand threatens her with death even after being in her head and seeing everything she's been through, the depth of her trauma, when the mistake was primarily his for hiding the truth. And the worst part is the fandom, for the most part, applauding and justifying the actions of the Night Court based on the argument that "Nestha is a mean bitch and she was lucky the Inner Circle accepted her."
Nestha is just a girl, a newly made woman at best, who never had an exactly easy life to begin with, who has just lost her home, her life, her references, the world as she knew it, who had everything torn away from her in an extremely painful way, someone who isn't handling all of this in a minimally healthy way, and you're telling me that Rhysand, Cassian, and the rest are right in treating her the way they did?

Imagine if Nesta had told Gwyn:
Gwyn’s actions were the reason her sister got killed
That is what Nesta did to Elain here:
“This time, Nesta didn’t stop the power from shining in her eyes; she shook so violently she had to fist her hands. “You tell yourself there’s nothing that could have been done because it’s unbearable to think that you could have saved him, if you’d only deigned to show up a few minutes earlier.” The lie was bitter in her mouth.”
i get it Nesta was having her own issues, but like damn she never said sorry and I think if Nesta treated the new woman in her life the way she treated her family…. They would not stick around to be disrespected while they were going through their own traumas

I honestly wish I was part of that group that says "I'm sure that Cassian loves Nesta". But, truly, there is not a single piece of evidence in the books that Cassian loves Nesta.
I want him to love her but do I know that he does? No, and the more time goes on and books come out, the more obvious it is that he doesn't.
That Cassian wants a mating bond? Yes, that's clear. That Cassian wants kids? Also canon.
But that he loves Nesta? Unfortunatly, that's only fanon for now.
But what is canon is that Nesta loves Cassian. That she is IN LOVE with Cassian and it has taken a hell of a long time for her not only to admit that, but to accept it and go with it. To give her heart a chance, finally.
So I can't also be part of that group that wants Nesta to leave and find someone else or be with Eris (not a Neris shipper at all). Because the truth is, Nesta is not happy with Cassian but she's going to be just as miserable without him because she loves him that much. She's not going to leave and be miraculously happy. She already has so much trauma from having faith in people, from trusting people only to have her heart broken. That scenario with her leaving him for good is going to do unreparable damage and Nesta is going to fall back into that pit where she blames herself and can't trust anyone. Knowing, on top of that, that the possibility of a relapse has been mentionned twice in ACOSF.
The only thing, in my opinion, that would finally give Nesta justice when it comes to Cassian is if he fucking CRAWLS. Is if, yes, he comes close to losing her. If he realizes how much of a dick he's been and takes the steps to become the mate she deserves. If he gets out of his fucking head and own self-deprecating thoughts and stops blaming those on her. This journey deserves a novella of its own.
That, to me, is the only thing that could save Nessian and do Nesta justice. Give her the happiness she so amply deserves.

SJM reeks of money. she cannot write a poor family to save her life. the cabin years writing was so minimal and hollow and caricature-esque and filled with gaping plot holes
the closest you Get to any kind of poverty trauma with Feyre is her feeling bad about spending money. there are so, so many factors to consider when it comes to poverty besides just morality over spending money or not
hoarding money
binging and purging money
how you eat
what you eat
what you wear
how you protect what you already have
bitterness and Jealousy with ppl who do have money
being poor and feeling worse when you cannot help someone else who is also poor and struggling (like panhandling)
etc
if I was Feyre I'd be mortified if I had five houses. I'd be embarrassed to live in a giant house (let alone FIVE) while Cassian has to hand out BLANKETS in Illyria. I'd be judging the IC for how they spend the money (which isn't even theirs. "Rhys money" is all blood money and from taxes BE real) and then condemn Nesta for blowing a drop of Rhys' blood money on booze
statistically poor people help each other and give more than wealthy people Ever did. Cassian should also be embarrassed as hell by the IC and how they spend money and their attitudes towards the Illyrians and other poorer fae and even how Nesta spends "Rhys' money"
in both ToG and aCoTaR the series end with the main character flush with more money than they know what to do with it and they're married. it's like one step away from Trad Wife smh
poverty is inherently traumatic and affects people on every. single. level. from what we eat to what we wear to who we spend time with to what time we even have to spend

You can tell the people who edit the ACOTAR wiki only care about the Valkyries as far as them being vessels to funnel their obsessions with the people they could be shipped with by how Gwyn's page doesn't even include Emerie in the list of relationships, and Azriel's inclusion is a mile long description, which pretty much just focuses on every tiny detail of the bonus chapter.
Plus there is so, so, so very little information about Emerie on that wiki. YOU PEOPLE ARE FORCING ME TO REREAD ACOSF JUST TO WRITE A GODDAMN FIC
Like look at this shit, these screenshot are of the list of relationships on Emerie's page
Tumblr media
This screenshot is of Emerie in ACOSF ON HER OWN PAGE
Tumblr media
THIS SCREENSHOT IS OF AZRIEL ON GWYNS PAGE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND I REPEAT GWYNS PAGE DOES NOT LIST EMERIE IN THE RELATIONSHIPS SECTION
AND POSSIBLY WORST OF ALL, THIS GWYN AND EMERIE IN THE RELATIONSHIPS SECTION ON NESTA'S PAGE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WHILST EVERY SINGLE OTHER PERSON PRACTICALLY GETS THEIR ENTIRE STORYLINE REPEATED IN THE RELATIONSHIPS SECTION OF NESTA'S PAGE.
I understand, that Emerie and Gwyn are relatively new characters, compared to the IC, but they were so vital to Nesta's journey, without them, there is no story. I DID NOT SUFFER THROUGH ACOSF TO SEE EMERIE JUST GET "the pair are very close" AS A DESCRIBER OF HER RELATIONSHIP TO NESTA
This is a romance book, sure, but people this is insane.
I also very much think that this is motivated by the fact that Emerie is clearly into women, and will possibly have a romance with Morrigan, a *woman*, unlike Gwyn who is *potentially* set up to be with Azriel.
I'm not sure how the public editing works on this wiki, but no one can ever add Emerie to Gwyn's page because it's "Protected from editing" which SUCKS

Yes. I hate Cassian.
reasons to hate cassian
Cassian saw that Azriel was romantically interested in Mor, felt jealous over it, and agreed to have sex with her knowing it would hurt Azriel.
The first time he meets Nesta, he immediately passes judgement on her for letting Feyre hunt as a child, despite the fact that she was a child herself.
Tells her he doesn't understand why her sisters love her
Bonds with feyre over their shared experiences living in poverty but treats nesta like she's a stuck up rich girl, despite her living in the same mf hovel as feyre (why does he do this ??)
He gropes her in her own home despite her not wanting him to touch her.
He sees her on the verge of tears due to anger and despair when the human queens won't send aid to the humans in Prythian, and then a scene later says "She barely seems to care about anyone other than Elain."
Will not take no for an answer when Nesta tells him to leave her alone.
When they are both clearly feeling something for each other, he still rips his hand out of Nesta's when Mor walks in. Wtf was this about anyways?
He buys Mor lingerie despite knowing Nesta is his mate. This is just weird in general. Also calls Mor his sister, despite having slept with her in the past.
Judges Nesta for not getting over her trauma in a way that is both quick and convenient to him and the inner circle.
Admits to ignoring her claim that she is enjoying the music while he drags her, against her will, out of a "seedy" tavern.
Supports Feyre and Rhys in their decision to forcibly remove Nesta from her home and relocate her to the House of Wind, on threat of deportation.
Drags her to Windhaven to "train" even when she makes it clear she has no intention of training. As a result, she is forced to sit on a rock in freezing cold temperatures.
When Mor basically tells Nesta she is just like her evil father and the rest of the Court of Nightmares because she is mean to Cassian, Cassian does not defend Nesta nor call Mor out on it.
He brings up Nesta's dead father at breakfast because she won't eat her oatmeal.
He tells her everyone hates her.
He watches her fall down a very steep flight of stairs, and then laughs at her. She was bruised and had a black eye from this fall. Cassian thinks this is funny.
Whines constantly about being a bastard nobody despite Nesta only using "bastard" as a direct insult to him one time, and in that same convo he called her a haughty witch.
He is rude to Lucien for no reason. (unforgivable)
Despite knowing Nesta is vulnerable, he fucks her at the first opportunity, even though he knows she uses sex as a coping mechanism.
Snarls and bitches at Nesta when she talks about Rhysand in a tone he doesn't like, even after telling her he can match whatever she throws at him. (He can't)
Sides with Rhysand over her constantly, even when he is in the wrong.
Every time they do engage in some sexual act, he immediately bolts, leaving her alone and confused. Refuses to communicate his feelings, acts like an asshole.
Keeps secrets from her, and agrees to participate in a vote on whether or not she deservers to know about the swords she created, which directly pertains to her powers. He whines a little, but ultimately does what he is told.
When she voices her fear that she is not good enough for him and will never deserve him, he does not correct her.
When he learns of Nesta’s love for dance and how her mother twisted it into a tool to find her a prince, Cassian turns himself into the victim. (this takes skill tbh)
He interrupts the only true canon Neris moment to shove in and dance with Nesta. Will not forgive him for this. Get off the dance floor.
When they finally admit their feelings on solstice and have a passionate and meaningful night together, he STILL leaves immediately the next morning to go hang with his homies and doesn't see her for a week. She is left alone AGAIN. (Begging him to stop doing this.)
When Nesta has finally had enough of being judged by the inner circle, she decides to tell Feyre the truth about her pregnancy. Cassian is furious with Nesta, takes no responsibility for lying to Feyre, and does not react in the slightest when Rhysand threatens to KILL Nesta. (His mate)
When Feyre tells him that she is angry with all of them and not Nesta, he does not tell Nesta, even though it would be comforting to her while she is at her absolute lowest.
When Feyre tells him Rhys is secretly happy Nesta is going to hate every second of the hike, he has a nice little laugh with Feyre at Nesta's expense.
He makes her endure a back-breaking death march in which she is forced to carry an extremely heavy backpack as punishment.
He sees that Nesta doesn't care if she dies, and does nothing to get her away from the steep cliffs. He snaps at her the entire time, even while she is clearly spiraling and about to have a mental breakdown.
She collapses at the end of each day and all he says is "at least remove the pack so I can cook myself dinner." She has not spoken in days.
He works her to the point of passing out. She literally faints, face first, onto the hard ground and he yells at her for not drinking water instead of trying to determine if she's alright.
When she finally breaks down and cries and tells him how much she hates herself, he tells her how much he loves Rhysand as an attempt to relate to her suffering. (fuck you dude seriously)
He does not correct her when she says she is unworthy of love.
He says "there is nothing broken to fix" despite forcing her to obey him and change her coping mechanisms and behave in the way he approves.
When she tells him the word mate doesn’t mean anything to her because she’s human at heart he dismisses her instantly and says "that's bullshit." No attempt to understand her feelings whatsoever as he tries to force her to admit they are mates before she is ready.
Tells her he didn't ask to be "shackled" to her after she says she didn’t get to choose to be fae, and it was forced on her. (it was)
When she calls in the bargain he immediately thinks of a way to get around it. He does not respect the boundaries she sets for herself. He thinks something like "Easy enough command to work around. I'll tell her to word her bargains more cleverly." She says she wants a week alone and the very next day he shows up to Windhaven in order to force her to speak to him.
When he learns she has been taken into the blood rite, after a lot of sulking and one feeble attempt to disobey Rhys, he thinks something like "even if I could rescue her I wouldn't, I wouldn't take away her opportunity to save herself." Meanwhile Nesta is hoping that he will be coming to rescue her.
When Nesta finally saves him, and tells him she loves him, he does not say it back. HE NEVER SAYS I LOVE YOU.
He calls Eris a coward immediately after learning he was tortured by his father, and likely has been his whole life. In the same thought, he acknowledges that Eris was willing to be tortured to protect their alliance and STILL calls him a coward.
When Rhysand is yelling at Nesta AGAIN for helping Bryce save the entire world, Cassian does not stick up for her. AGAIN! (I stg you bitch)
Amren says to Nesta, in front of Cassian, "Pray to the mother that your sister changes Rhysand's mind tonight" ABOUT WHAT? IS HE GONNA KILL HER? And Cassian does...nothing.
"Nesta's mate shifted an inch closer to her, his eyes darting between the two of them, torn. Like he didn't know who to side with in the brewing fight." I hate him so much for this !!!!
Nesta tells Ember that Cassian is "the most furious with me of anyone" WHY? Nesta even voices that she doesn't think they'll kill her. This implies Rhys has yet again threatened her life because he disagrees with her choices, and guess what: CASSIAN DOES NOTHING.

I love the artists in this fandom and the commissioners, they're doing gods work but...
I AM SO TIRED of seeing Cassian having the same height as Nesta or being a little bit taller.
This is Cassian:
Tumblr media
Nesta had to rose on her toes to see over his shoulders!!! THAT MAN IS HUGE AF!!!
AND he's a hunk. He's a 500 years old warrior, with big muscles that can crush you head if you happen to be between them... (I meant his arms get that out of your head)

Could we also get some justice for Clare Beddor while we're at it, please? According to Feyre, she and Nesta were friends, and we've seen how Nesta treats the people she considers friends through Gwyn and Emerie. A part of me thinks she does know, from that meeting at the end of ACOWAR when Feyre decides to share her story or whatever, but it's possible she left the Clare bit out, since we don't hear word for word what she said to them. So there's a chance she doesn't know. I want to believe she doesn't since Nesta isn't the type of girl who'd let someone hurt her friends and get away with it. Though, since SJM seems to have the memory of a chimpanzee, I wouldn't be surprised if she can't even remember who Clare is anymore.
