She’s one of my favorite character in the Dragon Age comics.

I'm not very happy with how she is in Veilguard and she deserves more importance. She deserves the world!

I decided to draw her to do her justice. 💕

The thing about Mythal is, if they'd kept the whole thing from Trespasser about her having positive contact with Solas’s rebellion, and made that into her being an inside contact or bankrolling the rebellion, like Dorian or Maevaris for the Shadow Dragons, she would have been so much more sympathetic. But because of that one regret mural, it seems like this wasn't the case at all. Which means that the best I can say about Mythal is that she's an incrementalist who failed miserably and got her feelings hurt when her boytoy left to go make some actual changes to society, and the worst I can say is that she was a power hungry slave owner who was surprised when the leopards ate her face. Unfortunately, Veilguard leaves the whole thing very ambiguous, so both of these readings, and everything inbetween are equally as valid as one another. And that's without going into the ambiguity of her and Solas’s relationship, which changes tone wildly based on whether you know that Trespasser strongly implied Solas had her vallaslin. Or, you know, that vallaslin were slave markings. All in all, I think this ambiguity was a mistake. Possibly a mistake born of limited time and resources, but a mistake nonetheless. And that's without the fact that they decided to drop all her individual motivation and goals that we got hints of from Flemeth, and made her instead into a prop for Solas’s story. They literally retroactively fridged her.

Honestly, justice for Mythal, she deserved better from Bioware.

The conversation about who becomes Archon would make much more sense if it took place after the final battle. When that convo starts, as it stands, the Archon is dead. But that's not exactly a power vacuum that can be exploited. And when you're choosing between someone unceremoniously kicked out of the Magisterium and someone who is an active member it seems more like an academic exercise than and actual decision.

But after defeating Elger'Nan. That's a different story. The Magisterium has been absolutely trashed. Everyone not a venatori was killed by the venatori and every who was a venatori is killed by you and your allies.

That's a proper power vacuum. Even if a few Venatori survived, taking them down will be easier than ever because their crimes are plastered across the city as blight. There is a very real chance to swoop in and change the way things are run and discussions of how to handle that change make a lot more sense.

Before that final battle it's a pretty glaring question as to how Maevaris is going to gain political power. Even if you agree with her political ideals, how is she going manage to take power. Even with Dorian he barely has a chance to gain power but it's at least easier to see how with some creative blackmail and some stealthy assassinations he could line himself up to be in charge.

But after Elger'Nan's defeat, it's a lot easier to see how either of them could actually take power. It's possible to see how Maevaris's plan could work and it becomes a much more even of a discussion on how to handle justice and the rebuilding of the Magisterium.

20. Which faction allies does Rook like best? Do they dislike anyone?

Lorenze Thorne really vibes with the Shadow Dragons - she likes what they're about, she loves their compound, she admires Ashur and Tarquin and Dorian and Maevaris. She had heard a lot of stories about Tevinter her whole life and seeing people that are actually taking action to change it is incredible. She's also heard stories about the Crows and stays weary of them, but grows to trust Teia and Viago. Most of her knowledge about the Crows came from stories she heard from other Wardens, or from her idol herself, Daria Brosca (who is definitely biased), or from the commander's former Crow friend/(lover?) Zevran. She thinks the Lords of Fortune are cool enough, she thinks Isabela is super hot and Varric's Kirkwall stories did not do her enough justice. She appreciates what the Veil Jumpers are doing but she doesn't understand enough Elven stuff to really get as hyped about their group's mission. She does make it a personal mission to make Strife laugh at some point, though. Certainly that guy has a sense of humor somewhere, right? Lorenze is both fearful of and amazed by the Mourn Watch. From the moment she meets Vorgoth she wants to study him and figure out what exactly he is. But she is not fond of the Necropolis and all the skeletons in general... it's eerie. Her relationship with her own faction is shaky at best. Before the First Warden kicked her out, she loved being a warden (though she didn't get much choice in the matter). Lorenze definitely has strong feelings about the First Warden. She has extreme guilt and sorrow when Weisshaupt falls. That was her home for years... She is glad that Antoine and Evka kinda take over, she appreciates both of them so much. She wants so badly to get in contact with Brosca, or with Carver, but with everything happening it's impossible (plus she knows in her heart that they both went to Southern Thedas when this trouble started). Lorenze takes pride in the fact the griffons are returned to the Wardens, knows it will give them a needed morale boost.

As for Cillian Ingellvar, he is of course extremely biased and partial to his own faction, the Mourn Watch. Myrna and Vorgoth raised him during his childhood so calling them allies is.... weird. They're basically his parents. He always feels more comfortable in the Necropolis, around other Mourn Watchers. He likes the Crows a lot when he meets them, but he's also biased because he thinks Lucanis is hot. Is flattered when he's later told that he would make a good Crow - then gives it some thought and wants to argue because hello, he's a necromancer, not an assassin. Opposite end of the spectrum. He doesn't fully trust the Wardens at any point (he has always been curious about them. His own research into it pointed towards them doing something weird during the Joining Ritual and he could never find solid answers) but he does like Antoine and Evka. They are kind enough and sensible and much better to deal with than that bastard First Warden. He does still feel responsible for Weisshaupt, and it devastates him for awhile. Definitely trusts them less as the story progresses and we learn even more Grey Warden history (Isseya, the griffons, what happens to (some?) wardens during the calling, everything Blight related tbh). He thinks the Veil Jumpers are cool, he could spend hours (or days) asking them questions about history and figuring out new magic stuff or exploring Arlathan. He thinks Strife is a bit of a gruff old grump but Irelin is nice enough. Is absolutely gobsmacked when Emmrich goes on a date with Strife but is ultimately happy for both of them. As for the Lords of Fortune, at one point Isabela (THE Isabela, from Varric's stories!) calls him kitten and he's gone. Left the stratosphere. He's not even into women (or at least, he doesn't think so?) but uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh he can see why she caused an international incident (probably multiple). He also loves looking at relics and learning new stuff about history so again, he could spend hours or days talking to any of the Lords about the treasure they find. The only faction he's not very close with is the Shadow Dragons - he feels like he failed them when he went to Treviso and the Dock Town safehouse got ransacked by Venatori. Ever since then, he's been iced out, it feels like. He hardly ever sees any of the Shadow Dragons; he feels immense guilt that Ashur got blighted. (Lowkey he feels like they hate him.)

30. Does Rook give their companions any additional gifts?

Lorenze Thorne: - gives Lace a new quiver for her arrows, as well as a few special magically enchanted arrows. She also gives her any unique flowers she can find. And if she finds anything that reminds her of Ferelden (or she thinks would remind Lace of Ferelden) she saves that for her girlfriend too. (As well as kisses any time she wants them). - gives Neve notebooks whenever she finds them. Also brings her coffee every morning after her workout. - gave Davrin a bottle of Conscription Ale (ps thank u Inquisition codex for giving us that) that she found while they were traveling. It was labeled "Vintage: Warden Ysidra. Spider's Maleficar." They both laughed, took a drink, immediately spit it back out, and then kept the bottle. - gives Lucanis tea sets and coffee mugs whenever she finds them. Also any time she comes across recipes she brings them to him. - gives Emmrich books and gems that she thinks Manfred would have liked. - gives Bellara serials from Minrathous every time she goes there. Also starts to give her other books (cough Hard in Hightown) she thinks she might enjoy. - gives Taash axes. Also, not a physical item, but spars and exercises with them on the regular.

Cillian Ingellvar: - gives Lace cheese. Also gives her any good and decent pies that he can buy. Brings her worms and beetles for her plants as well. - gives Neve the middle finger bones of all the Venatori he takes down (she was very upset by this at first but she eventually sees the kindness in his gesture and grows amused by it). Also child-like drawings (usually ones he finds while traveling, but some of them are ones he drew as well. shh, don't tell her) for her to put on the wall next to her case notes. She's annoyed and touched by this. - gives Davrin fancier, more ornate looking wood whenever he comes across it, so he can carve with that instead. Also brings him back any description of monsters that he can so Davrin can add it to the manual. And a jar of eyes, once. (And heart eyes!) - gives Lucanis any really pretty or nice knives he can find. Also a very ornate deck of cards so they can teach Spite to play Wicked Grace. Rings and jewelry too. And kisses. (So many kisses) - gives Emmrich bones and skulls. They are both Mourn Watch and never question why the rest of the team looks at them weird for this ritual. Also gives him permanent wrinkles and grey(er) hair by teaching Manfred new and exciting words like [every curse word that exists in Thedas] - gives Bellara magical artifacts to tinker with. Also, notably, brings her grenades and bombs that they can both test in the courtyard (to the alarm of everyone else in the Lighthouse). - gives Taash a highly accurate, very detailed dragon figurine (that he asked Davrin to carve). A few books by Frederic of Serault, that dragon researcher from Southern Thedas. They called him a nerd but he later caught them absorbed in the book. - HE GIVES THE TEAM THE HEEBIE JEEBIES THANKS FOR COMING TO MY TED TALK

But yes! @angelsndragons asked about Justice and the Moon from the tarot game for Disaster Rook :D

Justice: How does Rook feel about the circumstances that led to them leaving their faction? What does returning feel like?

He understood being asked to leave the Shadow Dragons, at least physically, after what went down in Nessus. He still very much believes he did the right thing, and he doesn’t even think the other Shadows disagree, but he drew a lot of attention and heat to them with what he did, and had no desire to put other Shadows in more danger. Besides, he liked Varric and Harding, and he had very little tying him to Minrathous other than his work, so it wasn’t a major hardship. Still stung a bit, though.

Coming back felt weirder than he thought it would. Rook always figured when he went back to Minrathous, it would pretty much just be returning to his normal (which was admittedly abnormal for most people, but he was fine with that). That very much wasn’t the case. He was still a Shadow Dragon, and he doesn’t detect any bad blood from the other Shadows, but now his mission is far outside of their normal purview and he feels that distance acutely. He’s one of them, but he also isn’t, really. Not in this. And right now this is his entire life.

The Moon: How does Rook's past impact their values? Does their past come with any biases or blind spots they have to account for?

Rook has a very difficult relationship with his past, at least before he joined the Shadow Dragons, to the point he rarely ever talks much about it. But it absolutely gives him knee jerk reactions and biases that he tries to keep a handle on.

Like many Soporati, he has no major love for the Altus class. Maevaris and Dorian and Ashur certainly make him more reflective on his quickness to judge Altus mages, and he has largely overcome most of that automatic distrust, but it’s a work in progress.

He hates the Antaam. Not the Qunari, he has much more nuanced perspective on the people in general, but the Antaam as an entity definitely inspire a knee jerk reaction from him, and when he fights Antaam it’s just a little more vicious and a hair closer to reckless.

See, he’s lived in Minrathous for years, but he’s originally from Ventus. And his (adoptive) parents died fighting when Ventus fell to the Antaam. Rook fought at Ventus too (as did Tarquin, interestingly, though they didn’t know each other then). The whole experience was somewhat traumatic, and the things he saw there make him leery of the Antaam as an organization writ large, even beyond suspicion of foreign militaries more generally.

Two years ago I started Dragon Age; Origins,,, and my son Jareth was born.

He's an enigma, an elf mage destined to save the world... the hero nobody wanted or deserved, but the hero we got nonetheless. He lowkey just causes problems and kills people tbh, he makes everything worse but its okay cuz he still solo'ed the archdemon so it cancels out. Really his moral compass relies on whatever option is funniest (which is usually just murder)

Like, who cares if he let a child get possessed so he could learn a forbidden type of magic if he can now make blood puppets fr!!!

His main weapon is the Cold Stick (called wintersbreath in game ig Cold Stick better) which he whacks people with when hes out of mana, and his clothes he stole from Velanna so his man tits are out.

He also travels through the games so not only is he the Hero of Ferelden, he's the Champion of Kirkwall AND the Inquisitor (he will also solo Solas when dreadwolf comes out trust 🙏🙏)

He has a harem that includes zevran, fenris, merrill, morrigan, alistair, isabela, cassandra, dorian, bull, varric, bianca (crossbow and person), the arishok, tallis, jowin, arl eamon, isolds dress, slim couldry, anders, justice (and vengance), orsinos staff, meridith, corypheus, the architect, sten, cole, harding, josephine, the maker, bodhan, krem, and maevaris. (to be added onto post dreadwolf)

4. If my Rook was a companion, where would they be found?

Depending on whether she's been kicked out of the Wardens by that point - she'd be in Lavendel with Antione and Evka. I imagine she'd be around a campfire somewhere sharing ghost stories. Or she might be in the Anderfells somewhere clearing out the Blight - maybe the party would bump into her on their way to Kal-Sharok?

If she's not in the Wardens, she might still be somewhere clearing out the Blight - but I imagine she'd try to establish a homebase for herself to earn some money and do some good. She's heard of the Shadow Dragons before and Minrathous is a place that needs help - why not from a Grey Warden?

15. What NPCs do they like? Which ones do they dislike?

Kyra joined the Grey Wardens around the same time as Greta - they had a thing for each other and got together for a while before being sent on different missions in different parts of Thedas. They've seen each other since, but it's never quite been the same.

She's fascinated by Maevaris - one day this woman just swept out of nowhere with this powerful energy. She sees Maevaris as a maternal figure (in a similar way she does with Varric) although she'd never tell anyone that. Neve can probably work it out, though.

She's cautious of Rana. I think she can sense that she and Neve have a history and can't quite work out their dynamic. Neve makes it clear that Rook doesn't need to feel threatened by her and eventually they build a really strong friendship and occasionally gang up on Neve, which she loves hates.

Kyra hates Illario. She had suspicions about his from the very first words that came out of his mouth. She spends most of her time in Treviso wondering how people haven't caught onto him.

29. If I could choose a different faction for my Rook, which would they have joined and why?

So I'm on my 4th playthrough of the game currently - the first time I played I picked Kyra to be a Crow. (I love assassins creed), but it just didn't hit the way I thought it would? Although I love Teia and Viago.

I think, if Kyra had to be of a different faction, she'd be a Shadow Dragon. She wasn't raised in Minrathous, but she likes its grittiness and she's a sucker for vigilante justice. She's a Veil Ranger so she can be stealthy and strike from the shadows, and she's got a good heart so she always tries to help people.
