Steve and Bucky hit the ground hard. But then again it's hard to judge landing when you're thrown through a random portal in space time. Now to look for context clues to figure out where and when they were. A forest was pretty nondescript in both regards.

Steve felt himself grew tense as he saw a sign reminding hikers not to litter. A sign in Japanese. Steve had no problem with the Japan of the 'modern' times(part of him still thought of it as the future). But he vividly remembered a time when Japan and America were lock in a bloody kill-on-sight war and there was no guarantee that wasn't the time period he had landed in. The best thing to do was just like when you were lost in a forest normally. Stay where you are and wait for rescue.

"Dad, please no! I don't want to go into the pit again!"

Steve and Bucky shared a look. They'd both become fluent in Japanese during the war and neither one were going to just sit back and ignore that.

They headed towards the sound of the cry, pushing themselves faster as it became a bloodcurdling scream. They broke into a clearing in the woods to see a fat middle aged man cracking open a beer. In front of him was a wooden cover over a pit, doing nothing to muffle the yowling of cats and the screaming of a child.

Steve ran to the pit while Bucky covered the man. He raised the lid and almost gagged from the combined smell of rot, urine, cat feces, and blood. Without thinking he jumped in and scooped up the small boy while the cats tried ineffectively to claw through his uniform.

"I've got you," he whispered in Japanese even as he heard the sharp retort of a gunshot. He climbed out of the pit and saw the fat man on the ground with a single gunshot wound to his head.

Bucky was giving him a challenging look, like he expected Steve to yell at him. But after seeing what this man had done to his own son, holding the bloody and injured boy who was looking ahead with blank unseeing eyes...all Steve did was give him a nod.

The sky broke above where they had initially landed. "Looks like our ride homes here." Bucky commented, but there was a question in his eyes. What do we do with the kid?

But there wasn't really a question was it? He needed medical attention and there was no telling how far they were from civilization. If they left him here, he'd probably die. "You get to explain this to the others." was all Bucky said as he took off towards the opening portal.

Steve rolled hiss eyes and followed. This kid was going to need a crapton of physical and mental therapy. And adults who were in it for the long haul.

These two fights were really about the same thing. Buggy and Usopp paralleling each other in their emotional attachment and inability to let go of the old, safe and comfortable thing they believed in.

For Usopp, it was Merry who’d sailed with them since the beginning of the journey. For Buggy, it was Captain Roger’s dreams and the title of Pirate King. When it comes to these fights, these two represent the same thing.

Obviously it was the right thing for Luffy to give up on Merry. He was prioritizing his crew, and he was doing this because of how he cared for his friends and for Usopp. He couldn’t protect their dreams if he couldn’t do this. But Usopp wanted Luffy to hold onto this shared heartfelt wish. Shanks probably had his own reasons too for giving up on Roger’s dream.

Shanks and Luffy were both trying to prioritize the future of their crew, rather than hang onto their personal attachments. But Buggy and Usopp couldn’t just toss aside their selfish desires.

Being able to set aside their own hurt for someone else’s sake is one of Shanks’ and Luffy’s shared behaviors. Shanks did this with Uta, leaving her behind to give her a better future when it hurt him to do so. Luffy did this with Tama, letting her act out and not telling her he knew Ace even though he mourned Ace more than anyone.

It’s about growing up, taking on the adult responsibility and letting go of your own personal satisfaction. It’s like when a person gives up their favorite childhood toy to somewhere better.

If you think about it, Buggy’s like a version of Usopp if he left the StrawHats at Water 7. Only Buggy didn’t get a redemption arc and a chance to reconcile with his friend.

In my personal opinion, I think Buggy was an experienced pirate at this point and understood that a crew where the crew members don’t respect the Captain can’t work. So the best thing to do when a clashing of ideals occurs is to go separate ways. They’ve already discussed this too, about their differences and how they should sail separately because of it.

wondering if childe being designed with red hair was researched and has a deeper meaning bc theres a bunch of stuff that makes a weird amount of sense. for him to have red hair specifically.

red hair is basically a mutation (mc1r gene) and it affects a bunch of different stuff, not just hair color, but also vitamin production and pain receptors

redheads in particular produce their own vitamin D so historically people with that hair color moved more towards colder climates bc they could retain heat better and thus could withstand the cold more. bc of their vitamin D production they also had stronger bones than people who didnt have red hair so its theorized that in colder climates redheads were having more children than non-redheads bc the latter just had brittler bones and had a rough time in the cold (the video i watched abt it also made a joke abt how redheads would thrive "underground" more than in the sun and well. funny that). also apparently some redheads need 20% more anesthesia than non-redheads bc they can have a higher pain tolerance

so its interesting that childe, known redhead, lives in a cold climate (snezhnaya) has a lot of siblings, and survived the abyss (makes his own vitamin D, has Stronger Bones, possibly high pain tolerance) its kind of hilarious? are u telling me him having red hair is deep. i love that

I got reminded of a weird dream I had today. Like-- it was ALL weird, it was like a collection of scenarios that I can somewhat remember some of it while I can't remember the rest much. But one of the scenarios I had in my dream was that I was in a dark void which was one of the states my headspace is usually in (when I've no focus, it defaults to either a white or black void).

And then there was a singular dark grey door with a glass window on it upper half and someone was on the other side. It was a guy with dark copper hair and he was banging on the door all panicked with muffled pleas for me to open it. Dream me was like: "Oh but I don't know... I should ask Aly about this first." And the guy kept banging on the door so badly it felt like my head was legit getting affected by it. So dream me was like: Okay maybe I should open it actually--

Then suddenly "Aly" appeared beside dream me but something was different bout him. He stopped me from opening the door and was smirking all while looking down on me and when dream me didn't listen to em, he put up a barrier to keep me inside along with it. And dream me was not having it all, she started debating on whether or not she should just bash this impostor's head in to get out.

But before she could do that, the real Aly appeared with a mf whip made out of lightning that he used to destroy the barrier and bind the other guy with. Dream me was all: ":D ALY!" While Aly was glaring daggers at the other guy and putting himself between him and me. So I got to finally open the door, and my dream ended after the guy from the other side finally got in and it was like a scenario where I apparently gained two new headmates in which one of em likes impersonating Aly and acting like the evil version of him.

I just finished the At The End Of The Road webcomic, by Haribo. It's, uh... well. That finale was anticlimatic, but it's understandable seeing as it was the creator's first project; everyone's first everything is always dumb.

I found out about it because the AO3 JeongShua fic writer @/authormin wrote a fic based on this comic's plot a few years ago, and since the fanfic has been on hiatus, I looked up the comic to know what happened in the story. The premise is creative, buuut the narrative could've been handled a lot better, I believe.

If I were to work on a rewrite, those assholes involved with the gang rape would've suffered everything there is to suffer. I also think the younger brother's character felt flat, and more annoying than anything. In fact, I'd have to rework the entire cast...

This webcomic's greatest asset is its premise, because the execution was kinda meh. I don't really recommend the reading, but I'd enjoy writing my own JeongShua rendition 🤔

Who should i ship in Metalocalypse? I think Charles needs to stay single and I dont ship any of the band members together. The best I could come up with that makes even a margin of sense to me is Rockso the Rock and Roll Clown/Dr Twinklettes because Rockso will do anything for cocaine and Dr Twinklettes is gaycoded but that's a very very large stretch. Is this show shipless?
