Anyways nothing in the show made me cry till seeing ekko and Mel sitting there alone and it doesn’t even have to do with powder and Jayce it’s the fact that they have to get up the next day its exhausting like there’s so much work to do.

I cannot fathom the same writers who expertly crafted s1 are also behind s2. Was Act 1 a fluke or something ?

Why did they build up Dictator!Cait only to go “jk nvm” the very next episode and have her instantly switch up against Ambessa the moment Vi comes back?

Why did they promise us an exploration of Vi’s character and then only give us 1 (one) montage of her pit fighting and then immediately move onto the next plotline? Like how does she feel about any of this shit? She wants to runaway and join a cult with Jinx so ig she’s cool with her sister again, but like, can we see the mental steps😭? Can we see how she got from point A to fucking Z?

Why did they give 0 personality to Isha—I get she’s supposed to be parallel to kid Powder but she HAD a personality, she had flaws, she had interests, she interacted with more than one singular character. She’s just so obviously a plot device and it’s sad to see Arcane fall into these cliche writing traps

Now I pray that I'm wrong, I pray that Act 3 recontextualizes these scenes and helps me see the vision that has eluded me so far, but every time I think of Act 2, I just get more and more disappointed

I do!!! Eventually...I'm p bad at responding in a timely manner bc I get nervous about responding and overthink it and then it's been four months and now I feel even worse for not replying but yeah the goal is to respond to all comments even if it sometimes takes way longer than it reasonably should

What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Mmm I guess technically the tadpoling one linked above. But. That's the one I hate the most I cannot in good conscience recommend it. Instead I would suggest Gale orb body horror (1.2k) or durge cannibalism nightmare (1.1k) which I think both qualify for angsty

What is this ""happy"" you speak of...? I would say probably durgetash body worship (1k) but I don't tend to write happy fics haha

A fanfic, no. I used to do a lot of collaborative writing of original stuff with friends a few years ago, though, and the worldbuilding for king of the ninth world was v collaborative with @sybaritick , so that half counts I think

All time is a hard one. Silverflint? Kiradax? Sarevok/Tamoko? GW/Dorn? Mary Keay/Gertrude Robinson? Nines Rodriguez/me? Claire Redfield/Jill Valentine? Billy Coen/Carlos Oliveira? (That one's fully crack it's not real I made it up but it's real To Me.) Rn it's durgetash still but that doesn't have the longevity to count as an all timer yet I don't think. Give it a couple more years

Worldbuilding is the main one I think. Not so useful for canon fic but great for sketching out AUs!

Description. Using characters' names instead of overrelying on pronouns. Actually finishing things lol

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

Nuance button. It's strange and a bit pretentious but as long as it's not overdone I don't hate it. Works better for conlangs then real world languages imo, but a good enough writer can make me enjoy anything

First fandom you wrote for?

I don't know if there's a fandom for it but the first fanfic I ever wrote was for a children's book series called rainbow magic. It was all about fairies -- each series had a theme (e.g. colours, genres of music, types of weather) and each book followed a fairy whose powers related to an aspect of that theme (e.g., my favourite as a kid was Storm the lightning fairy, one of the weather books). An incredibly easy format to take and write fic of, especially when you're...seven? Eight? Somewhere around that age I think

The first fandom I posted fic for...slightly embarrassing, but it was for mcr's danger days universe lol

Favourite fic you’ve ever written?

I kind of hate all my writing rn 😅 I think lose the halo is an all timer for me but I've improved enough since writing it that reading it feels really bad lol. I'll give it to merfolk au since that's my most recent and therefore theoretically my best writing so far. And I spent way too long writing it, so the world is permanently lodged in my brain

okay so top 10 music artists, I'm going to try to not go based solely on stats rn

1.) Bastille!! they are a consistently no-skip artist for me, and have yet to release anything I don't want to listen to!! idk if "doom pop" is a real genre but it should be!! I love love love bastille sm!! their new album is definitely different from its predecessor, BUT it remains a no-skip album. I love it so much!!!

2.) Hozier!! again, consistently no skips. I love his lyrics and I love the way that he writes things with such ???? passion???? idk how else to phrase it but it's that like yearning that's a pull in ur chest like the desire to peel open the music and live inside of it god I love him so much I can't wait to see him again

3.) Taylor Swift!! we all knew this was coming, it was not an if, but a when. she was the first (and only) secular artist i was allowed to listen to, but I rlly did find a lot of solace in the songs she wrote!! all breakup songs can be about your parents if ur damaged enough!! /j /j no but fr she's my most withstanding artist because I've grown up with her ig?? she definitely has some skips for me but she also has a fair amount of songs that have their claws in me always

4.) The Amazing Devil!! only found them in the last couple years but they're so good i fucking love the intensity and the same just ???? pull to live in the music as I mentioned with hozier i love them so much

5.) Ghost Quartet!! ik they're technically not a music artist and technically a Broadway show but the ocr of ghost quartet slaps like nothing else I will always return to the oddities and twisting timelimes of the ghost quartet

6.) Junie & theHutFriends!!! strange and fantastic, I love them so much

1.) Arcane!! I love the nuances, I love the themes of love as a motivating and destructive force, I love that no character is a wholly good character, that every character has depth to them, and the animation is literally some of the most beautiful stuff I've ever seen

a couple of thoughts abt representation tm in arcane particularly for disability in season 2

with the disclaimer i spent most of this season sobbing too hard to take in what was going on and i have not rewatched season 1 since it dropped. so i honestly could be off with a lot of this and admittedly some is more reaching on things that don't matter much.

anyway i was a littel disappointed with a few things.

1. the speech to viktor about how he was always trying to fix things jayce never saw as broken. that's sweet! and i get the sentiment. and honestly if viktor had grown up in an accessible society it probably would've hit differently... but viktor is disabled in ways that are understandable to want to "fix" partICULARLY when he was like... actively dying from health issues if i'm remembering right? the reality just is that if i could fix some of my issues i would. it doesn't make me as a person broken, and maybe that's what jayce was getting at--that viktor maybe couldn't focus enough on his own strengths, and maybe in the past viktor had been told that he had no worth due to his physical health and that was a motivator idk. but to me it kiiiinda missed the mark because... viktor's body was still something that made him struggle in ways it was understandable to want to improve on from his own perspective and it isn't rly wrong to want to do that to an extent lol. ig he just went overboard.

2. idk how jinx's psychosis works but it felt a little less thought out this season. was it trauma induced? is it genetic schizophrenia or something similar? it does seem like her hallucinations pop up during times of stress consistently or when thinking about her traumas which... she is surrounded by. but i feel we got less of them in season 2 maybe. maybe that makes sense because i imagine less stress would improve those symptoms to an extent during the happier moments. it just felt a little less present than in season 1, and we never seemed to get ANY obvious symptoms demonstrated in the AU episode. she did still suffer trauma there so i imagine if it wasn't genetic she would still have some issues, though maybe not as severe. and y'know, things were going better so again less stress = less severe symptoms or the bridged societies meant she could get effective treatment. and generally her symptoms weren't as relevant i guess in some ways. there were so many timeskips it's not like she couldn't have been struggling off screen. just confused about it, and probably would not even BE thinking about this in all honesty had the writers not had vi call jinx a psycho. what was that writing choice. ableist weirdness aside i feel like that isn't even really a word it makes sense for arcane to have in some ways ???????

3. ishaaaaaaaaa. i initially thought she was mute but it seems like she might be deaf too if you read into some things like looking at lips. she did actually have some good personality traits and such so i don't feel like she was totally plot devicey, but unfortunate that she died as the deaf/mute character. i do wonder if her not speaking was almost a device for jinx to be able to project onto her more or something but i do choose to take it as thoughtful representation.

4. i guess there is maybe something to be said about salo and others getting magically healed by viktor but again as a person with some pretty difficult health issues i would also go to a weird culty healer if i had the chance lol, just something that came to mind. and maybe this is part of jayce's speech since viktor's drive to heal the world tm maybe went overboard.

ANYWAY it is not all inherently bad and there is balance: we left off with cait missing an eye and we still have sevika who's an amputee, so it isn't like... a total case of "fuck the disabled characters in particular." and of course with the limited runtime and resources i can't fault the writers too bad for shortcuts to hit the right plot beats. compared to the care season 1 was able to get with some of this stuff tho it just was a noticeable difference to me.

So likeeee - I finished Arcane 😀 THE WAY I ACTUALLY CRIED WATCHING THE FINAL EPISODE OMG 😭 I have so many feelings and thoughts and I WILL write them after I recover but I just think about how it isn't a fully happy ending but it's hopeful! Riot Games talked about making more projects, and I really hope that we get more closure on these characters and their stories! I don't play League at all either, so what IK is only from the show and what I've looked up about League, and it seems like Arcane just touched the tip of the iceberg. I really wanna know your opinions, ig I just wanted to nerd out about this show so I'm back in your inbox 😅 Really wanna know your general thoughts!! - Nana

NO SPOILERS/LEAKS or whatever but that thing about the show writers kinda writing themselves into a corner with jinx is so real bc she’s already too similar to lol canon, like since they said they want this “season of opposites” thing I thought that there was no way they were going to have her evil and isolated for the whole season, I think they’re also going to show us her more humane and soft side maybe by bonding with some other zaunites (maybe a group of children since she seems to be standing next to one in the first trailer, or a truce with Ekko ig) bc I guess it’s necessary to make her appear more sympathetic to vi as well as the audience (not that they need it since I think most people are on her side). The writers keep saying that arcane is a story about siblings who have a hard time forgiving each other and if both of them give up on trying to reconcile for the entire season then there’s no story lmao I really do believe we might get a whole jinx/vi “we’re killing each other” “why we can’t kill each other” “we’re saving our sisterhood” “why we can’t save our sisterhood” thing but im not sure how that would go though lmao also pretty sure ashnikko replied to someone on ig by saying the song is short bc she has adhd😭😭

yeah and I think a lot here depends on execution because jinx is very central to so many plots and aligning that with her personal arc would be difficult because she needs to have a journey towards the point she's already in. so it could feel pointless that she just goes in a circle. like let's say they do make her bond with some zaun characters or kids or whatever and so then what? she needs to still be herself and who she is is not a person who screams community support so she will have to get rejected again or sth. and like I guess you could do that to push her further but also there's a very high chance of doing something lazy like killing them off and then it's like. well she already did that so who cares. same with jinx and vi like they did that in s1 ig so it would be very why are we doing this storyline again

yo! i just wanted to extend my appreciation for the viktor five you’ve wrote. they’re beautifully written, plainly put, and i don’t think you get nearly enough credit as you should for writing them (these fics hit particularly different bc im a HUGE advocate for adults— not hot 20 year olds, but genuinely jaded adults— falling in love with someone and, in the process, falling in love with the idealism they lost in their youth). ig what I’m trying to say is that when ive written ginormous fics like these, a small message apart from the kudos/notes goes a long way. i hope this message will extend the same courtesy to you :)

i'm also a huge advocate for jaded adult fiction honestly; too often things like fluff or smut (in actual books too not just fanfic) is written with a very youthful audience in mind, which i love, but also... i am tired and us tired folk want representation too! and yes -- the loss of idealism was a BIG part of this because honestly that's what got to me most from viktor's character arc and all of the wonderful analyses we've seen on tumblr. he's someone with so much capacity for love, and yet the world has been dismissive of him; then in this fic, it seems like YN gives him the biggest slap in the face, so i wanted to explore how they would heal, or try to heal, and try to make space for each other as well.

there's a lot more i want to explore with viktor, particularly what it's like for him to undergo the transition to cybernetics a la arcane lore, but im very fascinated by the original story too. to modify oneself because you're out of options is a lot to deal with individually, and for someone already so unintentionally isolated i do wonder what happens to viktor as he loses more and more of his human body and thus incurs more judgment. then, throwing in a romantic partner... that would be rough on even the most amazing, solid, 50-year marriage, so to stress-test my two idiots (mostly YN) who ran from love this whole time?

tldr yes give me jaded adults learning how to defrost and being rewarded for retaining hope in such a bleak world and also thank you SO much for your sweet ask!
