Still Got Time | Tate Langdon
Tumblr media
“Hear me out,” Tate said, pacing the floor of Y/N’s bedroom, “Maybe we could do a haunted house?”
Y/N shook her head, “You know I’d shit myself,”
Tate laughed, “No? Okay. What about a haunted hayride?” Y/N shrugged her shoulders in indifference, “Okay. Nothing haunted, I'm getting. How about you get dressed and you just leave it to me?”
Y/N narrowed her eyes in suspicion, “I'm supposed to just trust you?”
Tate came to kneel next to where she had sprawled out on the bed. He took the phone out of her hands, moving her attention fully to him, “Don't you?” He asked, placing a few kisses across her neck.
She squirmed as his blonde hair tickled her face, “I do. I do. Okay, I'll get dressed. Go,” she waved him out the door. He kissed her lips once before retreating to God only knows where.
Y/N didn't take long to get ready. She threw on a pair of leggings, a deep wine-colored sweater, and some combat boots. She hoped wherever they were going didn't require a costume: it was Halloween after all. When Y/N reached the bottom of the stairs, she saw Tate waiting at the front door, thankful he wasn't in costume.
“Ready?” He asked as he shook the hair out of his face.
She nodded, “Yes. Can I know where we're going now?”
She held his hand throughout their Uber ride and he had to keep reassuringly skim his thumb over her knuckles. She hated surprises of any kind and he could tell by her bouncing knee that she was impatient to know where they were going. He knew every time she looked over at him she was dying to ask. She knew, of course, that Tate was great at keeping things to himself. He wouldn’t crack. When the car pulled into a parking lot packed full of people, Y/N turned to Tate with a dirty look.
“Tate Langdon, did I not say nothing haunted?” she scolded.
He simply laughed, thanked their driver, and got out of the car. When he came over to her side, he wrapped his arms around her waist, waddling as he walked forward like this, his head hovering over her shoulder, “I think it’ll be fun. It’s okay. I’m here,” he kissed her shoulder before taking his place at her side, fingers laced with hers.
Y/N rolled her eyes at the sign. California’s Scariest Haunted Corn Maze. As much of a chicken Y/N was, she had no doubt anything would have scared her on Halloween. She was never one to seek out people in costumes or masks. You never know who could be under there, she rationalized. Y/N stood behind Tate, arms crossed across her chest, as he paid for their tickets.
“Oh, Y/N,” he playfully bumped shoulders with her, “Don’t be like that. I promise I won’t let anything bad get you. It’ll be fun and if it ever gets to be too much, just tell me,” he reassured her as he put one arm over her shoulder, bringing her closer to kiss her temple.
It was already dusk by the time they had got to the corn maze and they were losing light fast. Y/N clung tightly to Tate’s arm as they walked through the maze. Whenever some creature, be it a clown, a ghost, a zombie, or some other Halloween ghoul, Y/N would scream, squeezing Tate’s arm so tight she expected him to have nail marks for days. Tate could admit some of them had scared him but most of the time he just laughed. Unfortunately for Y/N, the latest clown had seen how scared she was and made her his target. The clown and another guy dressed as Michael Myers, pulled the couple apart.
“Tate!” Y/N screamed, eyes closed tight and hands over her ears to muffle the sound of the clown screaming in her face. She sank to the ground, anything to distance herself from the incessant screams in her face. She felt arms wrap around her from behind and screamed again.
“It’s me, it’s me,” Tate reassured her as he helped her up. Keeping his arms wrapped around her, he made a beeline for the end of the maze. Whenever someone tried to pop out and scare them, he held Y/N closer to his chest and did not make eye contact with them. Most understood his objective and moved out of his way. He didn’t stop until he reached a picnic table a few feet away from the end of the maze. He sat her down and knelt down in front of her.
“I’m sorry,” she said, taking deep breaths through her nose and refusing to meet his gaze.
He shook his head, “I knew you didn’t like this stuff. It was my own fault. I’m sorry,” he kissed the hands she was fidgeting in her lap. He left for a quick moment to get her a hot chocolate, her preferred cold weather beverage. He hoped this would ease her a bit. “Ready to get out of here?” She quickly nodded and they hailed another car.
During this ride, she couldn’t be closer to him if she tried. If she could become a part of him she would have. She leaned into his chest, arm draped around his waist as he pulled her in closer, kissing her hair every so often to reassure her. He knew she would apologize more before the night was over. She knew this was the one day in the year they could be outside together and she hated to be the reason it was ruined.
“Is it okay if we don’t go home just yet?” he said softly, looking down at her as he pushed the hair from her face. She looked up, hope in her eyes that maybe he wasn’t upset after all. She nodded and he placed his lips against her forehead.
When the car stopped, Tate got out first and helped her out of the car. He put his arm around her, allowing her to lace her finger through the hand that hung off her shoulder.
“I can tell you’re still upset. You have nothing to be upset about,” he pulled her closer as they walked.
Her voice cracked and he could tell she wanted to cry, “I ruined our one night,”
“Y/N, we’ve had a lot of nights together and we’ll have a lot more. I promise you that,”
When Y/N took the time to really look around at where they were, she wanted to cry even more. She looked out onto the sand and remembered their first Halloween here just a few years prior. A lot had changed since then but almost nothing at the same time. This was still their spot. It was still only theirs once a year.
“Nostalgia,” Tate shrugged.
Tate helped her navigate the rocky path down before setting her up in a spot far enough away from the water to make a small fire.Y/N sat as he collected driftwood that was dry enough to start the fire. When he came back to sit with her, he pulled her down with him to lay back against the sand. The night was clear enough that they could make out a few stars in the sky.
Playing with her hair as he spoke, he said, “I’ve never felt more alive than with you. I know that’s a dumb thing to say but it’s true,”
She turned to cuddle into his side, laying her head on his chest, “No, Tate. That’s not dumb,”
“You know that I wouldn’t have let any of those things hurt you right?” he asked, still looking to the stars, “Nothing in that maze, nothing in that house. Nothing will touch you as long as I’m there,”
He could feel her nod against his chest, she shifted a bit to lean up to look at him and place a kiss to his cheek, “Tater Tots,” he smiled that wide, dimpled, smile whenever she called him by that silly pet name, “Do you feel like this is borrowed time we’re on?”
He took inhaled deeply through his nose before letting out a long sigh, “Why don’t we worry about today?” he asked, moving to hover over her. She placed her hands on his face, rubbing her thumbs against his cheeks, “Can we do that? Just take it day by day?”
Y/N nodded and her voice cracked when she spoke, “I love you, Tate. That’s all I’m trying to say”
He smiled weakly before placing lingering kiss to her lips, “I love you. We have time. Don’t worry. There’s always time,”
They laid there for awhile, staring up at the sky and enjoying the sound of the fire crackling. Tate was soothed by the steady rhythm of Y/N’s breathing. When Y/N’s phone buzzed, she finally saw the time for the first time in hours.
“We should go back, Tate” she said regretfully.
He nodded, dusting the sand off her ass when she stood. She playfully swatted his hands away,
“Don’t act like you don't like it,” he teased as she took his hand.
As they walked back, Y/N wondered how many Halloweens they had left. She wondered what it might be like to leave Tate. She had a million thoughts running through her mind that seemed to come to the forefront more and more these days.
“Stop thinking so much,” he kissed her temple, “We always have time,”

Co-founder Thierry Rassam explains: “When we first began La Poutine Week our mission was, and still remains, to help stimulate businesses in cities based on this fun, delicious, and adventurous idea.” He adds, “Each year, every participating restaurant has greatly benefited from our festival as many restaurants have been known to run out of food and make record sales during La Poutine Week! This surge in sales is especially important during the historically quieter winter months”.
Na’eem Adam, the other co-founder, continues: “The popularity and consistent growth behind La Poutine Week also stems from the fact that is more than just a food festival. We have technically become the best and only platform out there that provides foodies with an opportunity to seek out the very best poutines that their city has to offer. We are a real and deciding factor in finding the best poutines in our province.”
